Starting point is 00:01:18 New episodes week over week. Watch the Hulu original series Furious, now streaming only on Hulu on Disney Plus. I'm out of popcorn in my teeth because I just downed a bunch of popcorn and we just did a Spider-Man live stream. spoiler talk for two and a half hours. But there was a bunch of news that's come out in the past couple days. And I was like, Coy, stick around for another hour. We got stuff to talk about. We got cancellation galore. And we also have announcements as well to go through.
Starting point is 00:01:47 And I believe we should talk about the cancellations first. There's chapters here if you want to hop around. But a big one that's been confirmed by the actor himself, pulling it up. Mahershalla Ali Like we already thought It might be canceled based off Figi statements But it wasn't entirely clear It might have just been like
Starting point is 00:02:08 Do you feel like you're failing Because you haven't done it? Yeah and it's been limbo so long It is rough to navigate the language And canceled Yeah but now Marisha Ali You're coming from variety There's like several quotes of him saying
Starting point is 00:02:23 Like they didn't want to do it I got one here I've been doing this professionally for pushing 30 years now. And one thing I've learned is that what it is for you is for you and what is not, it's not for whatever reason this project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, he would have done it. So I have to move on and I have moved on.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Again, you had me under contract. They have billions of dollars. If they wanted to do the movie, we would have done the movie. So we're not doing the movie. There was like other comments too. He's just tired of being asked about these questions. Right? That was like one of the things I was hearing earlier. Yeah, but he said, I feel ready to move on. You should ask them the question.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Like, basically like, I got nothing to talk to them. I mean, the big part about this is, I can't believe this is canceled, man. Like officially canceled. It seemed like. Were you in the room when the hat going on was like a life moment? That was the mic drop moment. The energy in that room was, it was a Super Bowl. It was insane.
Starting point is 00:03:21 I remember I was just live streaming. I was at Comic Con, but I was in my hotel lifestyle. I wasn't at always. That's so funny. And I remember like freaking out. Yeah. It was insane. It was so loud and deafening.
Starting point is 00:03:33 And then it went all black. And I was like, whoa! It was incredible. It's huge news. And then also with like Wesley Snipes returning, having that little jab that it could only be one blade. It seemed like it was a joke setting just to tee this back up.
Starting point is 00:03:44 It's true. How do you feel? I, shame was named drop. I got to meet Myershala a couple times and his presence is insane. He's got this like ageless wisdom. about him. He's just got this thing. We were like, I want to know what makes you tick. Do you tie your shoes different? Like, he's just
Starting point is 00:04:04 one of those interesting people. And I thought to have that be Blayed, it would have been so different from Wesley Snipes, but it would have been so... Wesley is also one of those people that were like, Wesley Snipes is fascinating. Like, you just want to know what's going on there. So I thought it'd be a different take, but just
Starting point is 00:04:20 as enigmatic and strange. And I thought he was a perfect casting choice. I do wonder, with him, being so perfect with how long it was in purgatory. Was it him seeing the character really specifically? They seeing it in a different way. Was it, you know, we saw a movie get developed during it and then that turned into like
Starting point is 00:04:40 the sinners wardrobe. Like this went on for so long. It feels like there were 10 iteration. The writers brought on. There were directors. There were other people cast. I am fascinated by that because of how fascinating I find him. If I didn't think he was interesting, I could see this just being a thing where they cast
Starting point is 00:04:56 someone, didn't work out, fell apart. But just filming Marhershila as a vampire hunter is the plot. Like, that's enough. So, like, that's what I'm like, why is it hard to do? Like, Iron Man's hard. Yeah. Like, an Avengers movie's hard. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:28 And they give us a star, a director, and a release date. And they could, after all these years, I don't know. Like I see, I know my Herschel is like older and everything, but at the same time, I still feel like he could have done it off. He could have done one. I think that they wanted to do three in the beginning. Yeah. And we can't. I mean, I don't hear the tone of his voice, but reading these words sounds like he ain't happy.
Starting point is 00:05:51 And I don't blame him for not being happy. Like, would he be happy? That seems like something that he was like. He really wanted. those years. And it also probably prevented him from doing a lot of different work too because of being under contract. I don't blame. I mean, we got to get him his cotton mouth for a little bit, right? We did. And he's incredibly fascinating.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Yeah. Back when I was an actor, he came to meet my acting coach and he audited our class. So I met him in a really interesting way where he was like very open and curious. I didn't meet him as like, hey, I'm doing it press. I met him as like an actor curious about acting. He's two-time Oscar win. But that was what was so interesting about like to meet him in that way. There's a vulnerability when you're studying a class or trying to like vibe with people, right?
Starting point is 00:06:32 You're very open to stuff. And I remember meeting him and just being like, I hope this guy's here every week. He's so intrus. Like he just is so enigmatically gravitational. Like you just want to be near him and you want to know like, what is it like to be so captivating? And that is Blade. Like Blade sits in a room and everything goes to him, right? Like Blade like lands in a scene and you're like, what that guy?
Starting point is 00:06:54 So when he got cast, I was like, I met him. He's Blade. And so it's a bummer because even like a cinema con two years ago when they were promoting Jurassic World, I remember thinking only him, Scrawl Johansson and the director coming out. That was the only like bits that worked. Everyone else felt very studio, very scripted, but they were actually funny. And I was like, dude isn't going to the fuck. He's just going to do what he wants. And I kept being like, that's blade.
Starting point is 00:07:16 So like for years, I was setting up for this to be like, it'll be worth it. Five, six years, fine. Fuck, it'll be worth it. And now I'm like, no, no, it just doesn't happen. It's crazy. It's a long time. That's a bummer. That's a bummer.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Those are my sad thoughts. Well, another thing was canceled within Marvel. Wonder Man Season 2. Another fascinating, talented individual. Another fascinating, talented individual. Getting cancellation. This is strange because this apparently, like, from what I was able to find that, it didn't have, like, huge numbers compared to other Marvel properties.
Starting point is 00:07:56 but if you watch the show, it's so like real world, but not super effects heavy and stuff. It shouldn't have cost much. It doesn't feel like it needs to even come close to the numbers of the other ones that they've done. And it was beloved. I feel like Wonder Man, the character will carry on in some way. This is a bummer for more like people who actually love the show. He got an Emmy Dom.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Like he's up for the Emmy right now. Right now. I didn't even know. He's after the end right now. Yaya? The end of Yaya's letting you know this is not going forward message with see at the Emmys dot dot dot for this role. How odd. I feel like you should just do it
Starting point is 00:08:41 for the pedigree. I feel like Disney Plus doesn't have a lot of laurels. Yeah. Like Disney Plus doesn't have a lot of like awards sitting around and so many giant studios are doing movies just for the awards. Yeah. This is that for them. Apple TV is one of those. Like this gets good reviews.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Keep doing it. Yeah. He literally is up for an Emmy this year. It was part of the constellation message. To my understanding, there was never, like, the writer's room was never actually officially open on this. They didn't have, like, actual things, like, maybe just general ideas of what to do. I was shocked because I didn't think we were getting a second season because Marvel
Starting point is 00:09:15 traditionally doesn't. That makes it so much worse. So do you think, though, he'll carry on? Yeah, I think, I think, yeah, yeah, will be seen somewhere. What's tricky is, I would have thought season two would allow for the bridge between tonalities. Like I would have thought season one got to be so grounded that season two would be half grounded
Starting point is 00:09:34 and evolve into a thing where he could fit somewhere. He wore the suit in one episode. Like the character doesn't yet fit in anywhere. It can, though. No, no, it can, but it would have been nice to see it happen. It would have been cool to do like a Wonder Man season two and do a completely
Starting point is 00:09:51 different type of season. Yeah. Or a thing that starts like the show and escalates. Yeah, that's true. Because the show ends with him flying. It was going that direction, but still, it was still grounded, pun intended. But like that could have, I don't know. Like this really do the hybrid show of like him as a celebrity. Navigating being a hero.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Instead, it's going to be like Wonder Man celebrity actor hero as an ensemble. I want to see, yeah, yeah. Like I don't want to see him like for five minutes like cameo because you like to the show. Okay, got to go. They canceled it. Well, it was the only true character study show that like where it's like purely a character study. And nothing more of two people. Their dynamic was great.
Starting point is 00:10:26 And I don't think we'll have time to get that. We'll have like, what, five minutes and an Avengers movie. Like, that is getting it again, but it's not getting to send time with Simon Williams. I like him more in the show than I do in the comic. Why do you think you, they canceled it? It can't just be solely ratings or is it like lack of connectivity or, I mean, it could be rating at the end of the data.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Like, you know what? I didn't make enough. I think other Marvel Disney, not even Marvel. I think Disney is looking at everything and going like trim, trim. We can't just like this was greenlit years ago. This was from like two years ago when Marvel didn't realize the Disney Plus experiment wasn't going to work. Like Disney Plus is not what they thought it was going to be. Streaming isn't what everyone thought it was going to be.
Starting point is 00:11:11 People are tightening their wallets. Disney's not in the place it was five years ago. I think it's a Disney thing and it's not anyone's fault. But it's also like they took a lot of big bites and now they're chewing. Wow. Because we don't hear. I mean, look, Comic-Con. I kept saying the last two years
Starting point is 00:11:30 I'm like a broken record about it Disney's gonna start playing the hits Comic Con was Doomsday Ghost Rider and Black Panther confirmation and everything else was like we've got an Avenger
Starting point is 00:11:45 we've got a Ryan Gosling we're moving forward to Black Panther 3 they didn't do a lot of like what's the you know what I mean I'm gonna bring up the talk I'm gonna bring up the point I'm gonna bring up the thing we're gonna bring up
Starting point is 00:11:55 outside of black Panther, it seems like most projects in the Marvel universe with black lead actors don't get much promotion or much development. I was going to let you say. Do you mean armor wars? That was so good though. Armour Wars, fucking the goddamn Ironheart, the Black Panther animated
Starting point is 00:12:14 show. Now Wonder Man's canceled. They couldn't get blade off the ground. I know Black Panther is like huge and that that's great. You don't go Academy Award winner Ryan Coogler. You like, yeah. But you got two-time Oscar winner fucking rehearsal. All these now he's not able to do it.
Starting point is 00:12:29 It's fucking crazy. That is crazy, man. Hey man, we might get another election. We'll see how it goes. And then maybe things can change. But until then, it's not subtle. It's not. But the comments right now are saying,
Starting point is 00:12:43 no, it's not that. Go nuts. Go crazy. Have fun. But like, we've said, like, it doesn't have as many viewership as not enough views. But at the same time,
Starting point is 00:12:51 it's like this, I don't think this show needed it to be produced as many. But that could also could be like, It's not enough, though, to factor in the necessity for being part of a bigger universe. And promoting it and, like, what it costs to like, you know, I get that. Yeah. And I understand. Very well could just be that.
Starting point is 00:13:05 But then why they greenlighted it? And then Destin Daniel Cretton is riding the highest high right now. He's doing, it's weird to do this the weekend of Destin Daniel Credit's. The highest opening in the history of movies. Yeah. Cancel that show, though. These guys don't know he helmed the show. He's not the showrunner, but he was actively involved in development and he directed the first two episodes.
Starting point is 00:13:24 And honestly, yeah yeah is a generational talent like the loss here is obviously we know sir bin Kingsley he's a fucking sir but like yeah yeah I feel like the black manse movie not going forward you know the James Juan Harrah thing they were going to do him coming over to Marvel and they give him the show they sit on for two years
Starting point is 00:13:45 and then they put it out and they get all these accolades he gets an Emmy nomination and now like that's just crazy it's crazy damn there's a good show to that's a damn good show that was one that kind of revitalized my watching shows and reacting to shows are very different animals. Reacting takes a lot of energy.
Starting point is 00:14:02 I know the job is to make it seem like it doesn't, but you have to be active and on and it's not casual. There's nothing transitory about watching a show. You're not like you're like, and I remember Wonder Man was one that I was so excited every time we filmed. Like it was an active like energy boost
Starting point is 00:14:19 because it was so good. Well, it makes me a little concerned that because of how much of a risk they took with the execution of this, how non-superhero it was. Just the overall, the overall way they handled how to tell this story was such a departure from what they normally do. Yeah. Gets me a little concerned that they're not going to keep taking the risks.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I don't. Oh, they're definitely not. They're playing the hits. Yeah. Like this is, this is going to be a very streamlined figure. Look at what Thunderbolts. Yeah. Movie was so good.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Made $5. I mean, Disney Plus, Marvel shows already have been doing it. The article season two took risk, but it definitely didn't have that. high of viewership. X-M97, season two is not. So, yeah, I feel like they want Marvel TV to kind of die a little bit. I don't, I mean, we've been talking about their marketing for a long time. Especially the Marvel TV side. Yeah. That's the main side we've been talking about. And it's, look at Spider-Man and like that's Sony and that's huge, but also like the marketing felt so different. Obviously, he's the biggest, most popular character in the history of IP. But
Starting point is 00:15:18 the way the reverence was for the first few Marvel TV shows versus now. So get rid of Spider-Man. That's bad. That's an outlier. Like, if you look at a bell curve, Spider-Man's like God mode. But even like the last five Marvel TV shows have not felt like events. And then Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, they did okay.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Yeah. But look at the cultural impact of Fantastic Four. How often do you think about Fantastic Four? Not often. Yeah, me too. That's crazy. That's Fantastic Four. I know we wanted that for so long too, huh? You don't mean? Like, it just doesn't feel the same. No, they got to do the hits.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So they're doing the hits. They're doing Spider-Man, Doomsday. Ryan Gossack Panther, Ghost Rider, yeah. Like, what are the characters that were on our lunchboxes in the 90s? I mean, maybe they have to do this,
Starting point is 00:16:07 I guess. I think they need to. They need to get the trust back. They need to get crazy numbers. Maybe they have to do the cancellations of things. I wish it was more of a pause on development than it was a cancellation. I wish he had to the show they announced. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:16:18 that's true. That's fair. It wouldn't have been as painful because I don't think any of us were like, man, that's getting a season two. Kind of like the Henry Cabell. Yeah. Yeah, he's back.
Starting point is 00:16:26 He's not back? Like, Blade, every time they said a new writer or director, I was like, it's happening. Yeah. Like, these two are both like, ha, ha, ha. I don't know. How do you guys feel about these cancellations? You thrilled? Leave in the comments.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Another one. We got one more cancellation. That's right. Of cancellations. This actually, I learned this right before we were about to film. Fucking booster gold from the DC studios. Coy, why did you cancel it? I did it because, no, dude, this sucks.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Like, this is one of my most anticipated things. I know. You were so excited. I like fan casted this. I wrote theory video. I mean, I did theory videos. I had ideas of like how it would interact with the DCU.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Like this was this was something I was in in. Yeah, the show DC series and HBO's booster goal TV series won't be moving forward. Writer David Jenkins announced on threads. He just basically reposted what Mahershal he was saying and said, yeah, I can't approve on Mahershaw's lovely statement. But I know how much you especially were very excited for this.
Starting point is 00:17:24 What a crazy time that we find out a show is canceled via a retweet of another show getting canceled. Like, what an insane thing to be like, well, that sounds about right. Yeah, I mean, I thought this was the most topical show we could have. But like, we were just saying, I think you can kind of, as he retweeted, you can retweet what we just said. I think it's going to be characters, you know, from lunchboxes. I think the market's in a different place than it was five years ago. I think he's an incredibly topical character. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Like he could have been, I don't know, like, uh, he could have been the surprise hit that people, he becomes a household name because of like influencer culture. I think if they made booster gold like the studio, he would have been like Thanos where like people know Thanos like everywhere. like booster gold had the potential to be an irreverent commentary on TikTok and media and the way we literally.
Starting point is 00:18:24 film ourselves at all times and the narcissism of today. And it'd be the comedy and version of Clayface in a lot of ways. Like you could do such an interesting take on him. That would be so entertaining, such water cooler conversation. I thought it was such an obvious win. And I didn't know anything else about it. Like I didn't even know David Jenkins. Like I'm not pretty to writers rooms and stuff because I do these jobs.
Starting point is 00:18:47 I don't want to know a thing and then speak out of turn. So I don't like to know anything until it's public. I found out by already tweet. And that's crazy. I'm sorry, man. I mean, Billy Magnuson. DC Studios has been with the box office performance,
Starting point is 00:19:02 a Supergirl. Anytime you get something like where it's that bad, of course the studio is going to reevaluate. Marvel's been having a little bit of a hard time. It's just weird to be doing this on the weekend. The biggest opening of all the time. When they have a massive successful film and they're like, by the way,
Starting point is 00:19:18 we're canceling some stuff. It's also like the week after Comic-Con. It's a lot of weird timing of like, Yeah, but for for DC Studios, this is something where they, it's one of their gambling ones, but I'm trying to get the impression that DC is probably going to be canceling more and pivoting as well. I wonder, uh, is this the first thing DC Studios is like officially publicly? Authority. Authority they said was like it wasn't like a big cancellation of variety, but they made a note like back burner.
Starting point is 00:19:45 But I thought the language was kind of like blade. Yeah, yeah. No, definitely. That was more like, it might still happen. And especially because there's an. authority character in Superman. And it's weird because Blue Beetle's coming back, right? Right.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And the man of tomorrow. Right. Like, I thought that affirmed this. So did I. Oh, that's too bad. It's a bummer,
Starting point is 00:20:02 man. I mean, it's not like, he's not as huge of a character as, as like Blade or something, but he would have been pivotal. But yeah, I think DC's now like,
Starting point is 00:20:13 we gotta play hits. That's just my impression. Coy, Coy has no insight in for mention. I, honestly, I found out here. Honestly,
Starting point is 00:20:20 I am reporting as comic fan of booster gold. Yeah. I'm also reporting as someone that wrote fanfic of how I would do it and did not bring it to anyone because I was like, I don't know what you guys are doing. I think honestly, like, we're seeing a restructuring of everything. We're just seeing the superhero stuff more because it's the popular stuff to talk about.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Sure. Like, there's show cancellations every day. There's restructurings of entire studios all the time, but it doesn't make news, right? Like, I don't know if NCIS season 72 is whatever. Like, I don't know what those things are, but those aren't IPs. Those aren't like things that are the scale. that reached us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:56 So I'm curious, you know, if there are other layoffs and ends of shows happening right now, is this like the reverse upfronts where there's just like a culling? Because three seems crazy. Well, let's hope lanterns does well. I'm excited for it. I've been excited for a while, though. I imagine Supergirl really made them have to reevaluate a lot of their direction. That's just the impression I'm getting.
Starting point is 00:21:20 It's just so early on to have a movie not do well. I'm not even talking reception audience wise. I'm talking just numbers wise box office. It's just so early on to not have something do well. I don't remember how I mean, I don't know if we weren't doing like comic cons and like there wasn't as public a thing when Hulk came out. It wasn't, but obviously Hulk.
Starting point is 00:21:38 Norrower near. Hulk profited, but it wasn't. It just wasn't a raging smash hit like Iron Man. Yeah. But I'm wondering how in today's internet that would have gone over, you know, and because there's so much consequence from the optics. True. Like there's such a different conversation when something doesn't do well in
Starting point is 00:21:52 26. That's very true. Anyway, do you guys care about booster gold being canceled? Leave your thoughts down below. Is I alone? Am I excited? So we got a couple of X-Men announcements. Don't want a more positive sign. Yes, let's go positive. I don't like doing negativity. It's a bummer.
Starting point is 00:22:08 McCoy was insisting that I watch a trailer from his buddy. Dude, how cool. Okay. Okay. So I love X-Men. I've always loved X-Men. And I have a friend who is supremely talented and he is literally directing, starring, and wrote this. He is Kurt Wagner in this, but also like made the whole damn thing.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Sure. So one of my favorite characters is Nightcrawler. He's doing so much this season of X-Men 97. So I thought to celebrate along with an announcement we're about to make and of course a certain, I assume you guys know the news, but a certain timing with a movie's release. I wanted to share this bit of goodness because he just put this out and it's like sweeping. Who is it? Chris Villain is, he's a, he's director he's an actor, but
Starting point is 00:22:52 this is something he put out like two days ago and it's got three quarters of a million impressions. Oh nice. It's like sweep it. Usually concept things don't like that's not a market I know but yeah, I wanted to share. All right, let's watch this trailer. Get your thoughts. Kurt is Catholic.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Yes, right at the jump. Kirk Wagner. Hello? Didn't see you there. No, it's all right. All of God's creatures are welcoming. Whoa. Where are we going with this? Ha!
Starting point is 00:23:38 They have seen things on this night, things that no one should see. And I know these difficulties may be put in my past, test me, but... Ha! Wait. Please wait. Do you have somewhere to stay? What's your name? Telling you would put you in great danger.
Starting point is 00:24:15 He's offering a place to stay right now. Sanctuary. Know that you always have a home here. And the house of God. San Qufasa. Yeah, Chris looks great. Can you lower the volume a little bit, right? Cool.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah, the circus. Who's that? It's it, Judge. Who is someone I know? Am I wrong? It could be. I mean, this is L.A. Swashbuffling.
Starting point is 00:25:17 He's got them swords. What a very specific time period. I love the clothing montage flashby of like the iconic outfits. Damn. Shredded. Why did God curse you with such a beautiful body? If you were going to be blue and sullied. So my friend's not German or blue, but I was just so proud.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Is he playing? Necrawler? Yeah. He directed, wrote, and that was him. That's his body? He did all of that and trained. Damn. Imagine directing that hungry.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Yeah, man, that's crazy. I was like he made that whole thing and I was just so like, that's a commendable feat. I mean, we talk about it quite a bit how night crawler is usually not viewed as like a leading character. And this really proves that there's a possibility in him being able to actually be a leading character. I've always wanted like a circus outsider kind of like how do we build the mutant hate and world fears. them thing. And I think Nightcrawler is such a great eye line because he's so visually striking and like demonic and then the god elements of like the opposition of how you'd feel about yourself. Like there's such visual storytelling in this. I think he captured that. And like the fact that
Starting point is 00:26:58 the internet is obsessed with this makes me happy. I know it's really impressive. It actually feels like the good concept pitch for what you can do for something real. And he wanted to put it out around Comic-Con and I was like, yeah, let's say, I have a feeling about a certain character. So let's hold for a second. And then when the movie came out, I was like, ah! And I'm just, I'm just, proud of because directing is so impossible to me but I can't imagine starting directing writing and then treading no has a has a real vision behind I can imagine if you give this guy some actual money he can do something pretty crazy yeah I'm encouraging him to like actively get like into the director's guild and stuff because like he just made this because he made this out of love
Starting point is 00:27:33 he just loves night crawler so that's commendable so I wanted I just wanted to share with you guys I rarely want to bring in like a story yeah I was expecting something that was just going to be like a big flash of powers and stuff but this was all this was all emotion and character backstory and everything and like really capturing that Catholic guilt and sense of it all. It was like a character narrative versus like that would be like a visual effect showcase which I see all the time you're right.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Like that's usually how people want to. But I think showing a Kurt Wagner story is so interesting. And of course you give Kurt Wagner a V-Line and then bam, you're way more interested in there. Fuzzy blue elf. He gets the ladies. I don't need them crazy tats.
Starting point is 00:28:06 It's all in that. The tats would hide that V-Line. I mean that's correct. Chris, what did you eat? Did you eat? Incredible work. My God. He could have digitalized that.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Chris, Chris, let us tell in the comments. You got to prove Chris. You got to come in and just take your shirt off. You got to drop your pants to a very uncomfortable level. Yeah, that's why God's punishing you. That V-Line. You're showing too much crotch right now. Nightcrawler.
Starting point is 00:28:30 That's why that priest was a little welcoming. Go to Chris Villains YouTube channel. Yeah, and he's got tons of other good stuff. Like, he just makes stuff, which I can't fathom. Like, I, as someone who has no directing ability, the fact that his website is just tons of awesome stuff he's made. Awesome. Well, we'll use this opportunity to segue.
Starting point is 00:28:51 And as a Mexican. Her name is Emma Frost. I'm so excited. Emma Frost is a character that has been an X-Men 97. It was an X-Men first class. She's technically an X-Men Origins, Boehrain. Sure is, confusingly. And now it would appear.
Starting point is 00:29:11 They have found what I think is pretty amazing casting, actually. Pretty perfect casting. Samara weaving as Emma Frost. Coy. You think pretty perfect? If you're saying it, I believe it's. I believe my initial reaction too then. Emma Frost is someone of old money,
Starting point is 00:29:38 someone who is vain, someone who is a fighter, and someone who de-es. down has goodness in her, but has the projection of being just the worst. Samara weaving usually plays the opposite of that. But visually and in some things and moments I've seen of her, I'm like, oh, she can absolutely nail cold. So this is one of those interesting castings where it isn't the plug and play I would have assumed. And it is like, she doesn't usually play like a cold-hearted bitch. January Jones played her and I think nailed it.
Starting point is 00:30:16 think of her as playing cold and kind of like removed. I think of Samara weaving is playing surprisingly warm and likeable even if you don't think you'll like her. So I'm really curious to see her play the undercurrent of Emma Frost as likeable underneath
Starting point is 00:30:32 the literal diamond exterior. Yeah. Because Emma's like she's very confident where it can be arrogant. Yeah. Off putting. Sharp tongue, witty. And I feel like in interviews I see that a lot of Samar weaving obviously a very guarded character them diamonds yeah uh cheats like cyclops to cheat is
Starting point is 00:30:54 crazy but she's he's very ambitious she's driven she's very protective of mutants um but she can be like while calculating and cunning she she can also have those shades of surprisingly uh compassionate when you when you don't expect it i feel like i feel like with anything i've ever seen of samara weaving from like babysitter to ready or not you're like she fucking she can do this She can do this. This is what I'm like, no doubt. Tomorrow we've able to pull this off.
Starting point is 00:31:20 Like she looks like Emma Frost. It's one of those. That's exactly the cool part about her casting. It's like, yes, does she look like her? Yeah. But can she pull off the role?
Starting point is 00:31:29 Yeah. Because a lot of times there's characters were like, yeah, they look like them, but I don't know if I can believe their ability as an actor who would make me surrender
Starting point is 00:31:38 to the performance. And she's one where I'm like, I have no doubt that I would surrender to their performance. And we can give us a truly memorable Emma Frost. How old is a smart weaving? Not to ask a lady her age, but to ask the internet to ask a lady her age. Because I think this is about to reveal an interesting thing.
Starting point is 00:31:54 I mean, if you're asking an actress, you always got to add on 30 more years. So she's 65. I think this is an interesting tell. Why? She is in her 30s. And I think we're going to have two different generation of X-Men in the film. Oh, yeah. I think...
Starting point is 00:32:09 I usually associate the older Emma Frost. Same. I think this is the first time because we only know, spoilers guys I assume you're watching this you already know it's Saturday a gene gray is a lot younger yeah so I think having a teen gene gray or like an early 20 gene gray and a 30 something Emma Frost will have implications for there being teachers students and I think we're going to get maybe the storyline where Emma loses all of her students because that's what turns her into a villain is she has her own school or her own class that get
Starting point is 00:32:40 killed and that changes her forever so I think that might be an element of this is seeing like the older mutants and those consequences. Yeah. Because I've been wondering from the beginning. I've done like 20 fancasts. I've made various videos. That's actually a video I'm to make this week because I've been so inspired by Spider-Man. I want to do my how I bring in the X-Men pitch,
Starting point is 00:32:59 but I keep wondering, is it going to be the original X-Men as the kids? And then like, you know, B and C-Listers as teachers. Like we have to have authority figures. Is it just Xavier? Like what era is this going to be? now with her, it does seem to be there are other teachers outside of just Xavier gathering the five or whatever.
Starting point is 00:33:19 This casting gives us a lot more data outside of just Emma Frost. That is a good point. If they play with the age. They have a 20-something and a 34-year-old. She's not going to be a coming-up Emma Frost if she's 34. She could be 20 still.
Starting point is 00:33:34 But like puberty is how the X-Gene activates. If your puberty activates at 22, 23, that's something wrong. She's been a mutin's what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I get you. And whereas we just saw Jean Grey. It means you could just play older version, but we still might get her past.
Starting point is 00:33:47 But we're talking about it on the main plot, story. There will be older mutants. I'm just trying to make your job more complicated. I know. I'm just trying to stress you out right now, boy. It's not just Xavier and the children. I'm just trying to stress you out, buddy. He's pressed me off.
Starting point is 00:34:02 I can't. I can't. I've been thinking about this for two hours while we talk to Spider-Money. This is how cool. Actually, that's how it was interrupted voice. This is not. there's a more work with one. It's a bayon up there.
Starting point is 00:34:15 I wonder, because Koi's always so frustrating. Can't hear his own thoughts. But I do think this answers a lot of questions about what they're doing story-wise. Because all we knew for years was, of course, we'd have the X-Men. You know what I also love about her? She also had, I associate Emma Frost as having a bit of a sophisticated elegance to her. She definitely does.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Yeah. It's really a lot of, if you watch interviews with her, she's surprisingly hilarious. If you watch interviews with her, there's a, that's where I really see a, lot of because a lot of people just call her like another margot Robbie just from her looks a lot of the very different no they're very interject but i would love to see her and margot robbie they'd be great sisters then dude she's in Barbie she's in Barbie yeah they had to dye her hair brown because they thought they'd look a lot of like and they were going to make a joke about the Barbie's looking so really and then side by side they don't look alike look at it it's
Starting point is 00:35:06 crazy brunette oh oh my god she's in Barbie crazy crazy crazy And also look at them side by side. That's crazy. And the entertainment weekly picture. That is crazy. They do look very much like they are, like if you said their sisters, you was like, yeah, I totally see it. That is crazy.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Like it's a copy paste. Like sometimes people are like, wow. Yeah, they're not, they're definitely not twins, but damn do they look like sisters. It's fucking crazy. Usually when you put people side by side, they look less alike. Yeah. But when you put them together, like I see it.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Like, holy shit, is it there? Well, that I think it'd be great casting. There's a really good. comic, if you guys want to check out, there's a run that was supposed to be a mini-series that actually became a long-running comic about Emma Frost. And it goes back to her insecurities of getting like a nose job and how that like corrupted her belief in herself and like her family and her upbringing. And it was really interesting. I read it in the early 2000s. But it really, I mean, it ran like 20 issues. It was a two-year run on Frost.
Starting point is 00:36:06 Well, there's another casting that we don't know yet. We don't. I mean, there's rumors of other ones, but there's an actress who has been, uh, become a superstar. Got millions of followers on Instagram And the matter of a couple weeks Due to one movie that people became Obsessed with? Obsessed Upsest.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Hutz. She big a X-23 It's my favorite movie of the year. So far. But she doesn't want to play it. She's confirmed that she's met with Jake Schreier. Hope she doesn't make up Drake. That'd be dangerous.
Starting point is 00:36:36 With Drake Shrier, Jake Shrier's brother looks just like some Roweaving. Got it, got it. And, but she, she was saying like I thought what Jake brought to Thunderbolts was what I used to love about Marvel. Wow. Damn. It was character driven. I'd like to work for them. Shots fire. And the whole time I just couldn't stop Gretchen about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel. She's vocally speaking out saying that she would love to play the character,
Starting point is 00:37:01 Mystique. Interesting. I mean, she's so charismatic. Like she's so contortiony too. I can see it. I mean, Mystique, just for one role in obsession alone, shows she can switch between like charming, vulnerable, seductive, terrifying. She can play like all the traits and qualities. She's such a superstar though that. And I mean, from what I've seen of her like on interviews, she's a wild personality. Oh, she's so a lot.
Starting point is 00:37:31 She's great. She's fucking bold. She's like, like talks about like wanting to be in jackass. Like I'm sure. Yeah, she's at the premiere. And I was so confused. She's like I would absolutely participate in a jackass movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:43 And like she just seems like a. a bold ass individual. She was also like streaming on Twitch for the two years between filming obsession and coming out. She's just online like accessible, which I think is really cool. She seems like really honest. Like like unusually honest. I hadn't seen obsession when I met her. So really? I was just talking to her and she was just a really friendly person that a lot of people wanted to meet. So she was stuck near me in a line where we were like walking, shuttling in like to leave the theater and we just had a normal ass conversation. And then two weeks later, I was obsession. And she retroactively was terrified. That's crazy. Like the conversation.
Starting point is 00:38:14 I was suddenly like, holy shit, she's so intense. But like, she was so normal but big. She had that, like, cool theater kid energy that they love film and they have that energy of, like, excitement. She felt like she hadn't been burned by LA, so I was really drawn to that. Because so many people who meet at events are like, it's another night. But she was, like, so excited to be a jackass. And then I watched an obsession.
Starting point is 00:38:31 I was like, holy shit, she's intense. Yeah. Yeah, she's great. I mean, she can bring that unpredictability to her. And I don't feel, just based off her personality from interviews of all that is true and real. You never know it's interviews. I don't feel like we'd run into the Jennifer Lawrence problem where like I don't want to be in the makeup anymore.
Starting point is 00:38:49 It's early enough yet. I could see her being like, no, she has to be in the makeup. Yeah. It's Mystique. She must be in the makeup. Dude, I would love. I mean, I think she'd be great. I'm in for this.
Starting point is 00:38:59 She would be. I'm surprised to hear someone like a champion to want to specifically play her because a lot of times Mystique is playing other people, you know? And I feel like with Mystique, I thought she might be more in the category of what. we were talking about with Samara weaving. Because if she's saying she wants to play mystique, that doesn't mean there's mystiques in the movie or not. But if I'm seeing any Navarady, I would assume a young mystique,
Starting point is 00:39:21 kind of like X-Men first-class mystique. But I thought it would be like older mystique, like 30s or something like that, you know? But then again, mystique's kind of like never aging. Yeah, if there's ever a character that really doesn't have about age. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. But no, she could do it all.
Starting point is 00:39:38 The dangerous elements, the emotionally guarded elements. There's a lot of my mistakes. flipping switches like there's so much. Yeah, I feel like she'd be great for it. I think any role you get her for, X-Men would be just, I think you just got to snag her for X-Men. She's got to get her and put her in something, man. She's fucking great.
Starting point is 00:39:52 If she's meeting and wants to, we'll put her in the MCU. I currently, I would be so disappointed if they do not give her an Oscar nomination for obsession. Yeah. What other, no, no, no, is what other perform? I'll talk about performance of the, performance of the year so far. Just performance. Yeah. What other performance has taken?
Starting point is 00:40:12 the internet at least by storm. It's her performance. Yeah, I can't think of anything close. And that is where I feel like you actually get a horror Oscar. A horror Oscar. You actually get young people to fucking tune in for the Oscars, not Downey Jr. And Chris Evans making some weird bit that's socially awkward. Get her on there.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Like, give it to her, man. She absolutely like, I think she deserves it. So like we're seven months to the year. And I'm like, there's still no performance I've heard more about than hers. She's still like, it's sensational. They'd be smart to grab her now, especially before she wins an Oscar. And then her price goes out. Exactly. Like, oh my gosh, really hell of expensive.
Starting point is 00:40:49 And I guarantee every franchise. Like, an episode of entourage could send her around the call she got the week after obsession. Yeah. Like she has taken every meeting with every franchise. If she's speaking about it. Yeah. No, she has control right now. But I'd be excited for any role.
Starting point is 00:41:03 She gets an X-Men personally. 100%. But I think that's it for today, man. Yeah. Is there any? I don't know. I heard, uh, I rumor, rumor, rumor, rumor, rumor. I heard that there's some beast ones out there, but I heard a Kaylee Spenny one.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Yeah, is that rogue? I guess. I don't know if I see that, but I love, because I think that'd be playing very much like the Anna Pac-win take. And I don't see that as rogue. Um, but I, I'm curious because she's so talented. Like, Kaylee Spenney's incredible. Um, but I don't know if this is true or not.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Let me see here. I mean, yeah, apparently she's being like cord. That name that popped up a second ago was the right spelling. I can't even help you there. C-A-E or something. Just hit the back button there, Array? Yeah, it was there. See, the Kylie Spineing.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Who's she? Kylie Spineyne from Alien and the Elvis. Alien of Earth? Alien of Earth. No, not Alien Earth. Alien, the Covenant? Yes, she was the lead. And she was in Civil War.
Starting point is 00:42:06 and she was in the Elvis movie. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. She was the lady Elvis. What's that movie? Yeah, okay, that's the exact photo I saw today, the one on the Instagram, one to the far left with Beast and Rogue. Yeah, that's the exact one I saw today.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Like, I mean, we don't usually talk about rumors, but it's X-Men Day. I think, honestly, I think Kaylee Spenney could play anyone and, like, talent-wise, she's so good in beef. Like, I'm down for whatever. I just personally would not pick Rogue when I think of her. I think that girl from adults or whatever, that that like crazy Gen Z girl.
Starting point is 00:42:39 The one from Chalemay's movie? With the hair. I've been slowly crashing this entire time. Because I'm like names, things. I've been having to try to keep my energy up and I've slowly been crashing and losing brains. We've been filming for like four straight hours. Directly more to one. So I and Charles Melton also.
Starting point is 00:42:58 What is her name? She's in fucking, I don't even remember the name of the Chalbay movie, Marty Supreme. She's in Marty Supreme. She's in Marty Supreme. And she's good on that show. I love L.A. Yes, that's the one. She's not an adult.
Starting point is 00:43:08 She's in I Love LA. Everybody hates. She's the daughter of... She's the one I imagine being rogue every time. And she's the daughter of someone's her. She's like, Napo, but like it's a voice actor. I can't pull her fucking name either. Her?
Starting point is 00:43:21 Can you type in I love L.A. before Greg and I die? I was trying to do it myself, so I wasn't going to ask, but I have to ask. Her name is... Yeah, she should be in this list right here. Odessa. Asian. You know, that common name we should remember.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Odessa ASEON is who I picture is Roe. Yeah, me too. Yeah. Oh, my God. She's brilliant. She's awesome. She's so fascinating. She's just so interesting.
Starting point is 00:43:48 Like, I love her and I love L.A. And she was so good in it that I was like, oh, they just probably cast someone who is just like this person. Yeah. And then I watch Marty Supreme. And it took me a while. It would be like, wait a minute. That's that girl from I love. I was like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:44:04 She's right down like fucking range. He also seems to be like really shy, like in interviews and like, and public appearances. So I'm like, wow, what a fascinating. Yeah, it should be great. Who is, who they're saying is this beast? Charles Melton. Who is Charles? He's got that face that's so cool to draw.
Starting point is 00:44:19 He's got a very drawable face. I'd like to draw on his face. Look at that face. That's a drawing face, dude. Oh, my, oh my God. Doesn't that look like a drawing? He's in beef as well. He's a beef boy.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Um, I haven't seen bad boys ride or die. I haven't seen a lot of his stuff. I watched the Matrix. him. I went to the Hollywood forever and I kept being like, that guy's got a cool face. It's all I know about him. Yeah, I don't, I mean, I've seen some of the, I've seen, some of the stuff you have seen, but I don't remember him in there. I also like how different he looks in beef because they like gave him a mustache and made him look like, you know, a regular guy, but he's so striking. This guy looks like a statue. Yeah, like he, he looks like Henry Goldingish. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Remember when Harry Golden came out and everybody's like, that guy's face? They were like, let's chisel him a little more in the figure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cut some more angles from Marvel. It's crazy. It's very intense. But it's tricky because I think of Beast as his voice and intellectualism. I don't know enough about this dude.
Starting point is 00:45:21 I can't hear his voice in my head. You know what I mean? Like that is what I would need for Beast because most of the time it is that. They'll probably go to the direct. If they were to get, if they are planning on getting a guy like this, I'd imagine they're going to go the direction where he's not fully blue mutated furry guy. We'd meet him, I think, like, the 60s. I think we'd meet him as Hank McCoy.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Just big, big foot guy. Give him those foots. Giving the big feet. So, yeah, those, them's the rumors. I mean, the fact that they announced Emma Frost means they're actively going to be putting stuff out. Like, I think we're going to be real busy in August. Do you think D23, they'll actually say a hundred percent? I keep thinking they won't say anything at D23.
Starting point is 00:45:53 And then, and then they put out a number frost announcement. I know. Well, did they, did they? Did they, who put out the Emma Frost? Right. Oh. I guess I keep feeling like they shouldn't announce X-Men until after Doomsday. But you know what happened?
Starting point is 00:46:12 They fired two sets of shows, so they needed press. Yeah, it's true. It's just like I feel like we should keep the focus on, because we're saying goodbye again to these Fox Universe X-Men. And I feel like if we keep the focus and excitement on seeing these X-Men come back one last time, and then we announce the X-Men, I feel like that'd be a smarter optics play. I think the problem is they're filming it now. I know.
Starting point is 00:46:35 How do you film without like, look at those guys in yellow suits. I don't know. I think D23 and then. Volume. Film on the volume. That's what we want. Mocap suits. That's what we've learned this year.
Starting point is 00:46:47 We want more. We want more CGI. If there's anything in the Odyssey and shooting on location and brand new day taught us. That we want to not have that. Have everything set into rebro? The volume. The danger room. All of it.
Starting point is 00:47:02 It's a bottle episode in the danger. It's a bottle movie in the danger. in the danger room. I'd like to meet the X-Men in the volume. Don't change the lighting. Call it the danger room. I think we'll know by the end of the summer, everybody. Yeah, me too. And I liked that they didn't do that for Comic-Con though.
Starting point is 00:47:18 That made it about Doomsday. That's true. Deadly D-23 at least buys us some time. Yeah. And that's now. It's August. And I'm going to be in the room for the first time. Oh, yeah? I'll be there. Dude. I'll be like, Corey. Now hop on a live stream on my phone to me, Corey. Yeah, let's go stand in that corner. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:34 There's a billion other people who are live right now. Why is this Cloverfield episode of Corey and Greg have? Just shuddered in a ad. Why is the internet going to get it? It's so messy. I couldn't even tweet in Hall H. It's the first year I couldn't even get a tweet out without pictures. That shit's hard.
Starting point is 00:47:48 Usually there's like some bandwidth. It was gone. That's what I mean, man. So D-203 is going to be crazy. I'm glad you're coming. That'll be fun. It will be fun. You know, it'll be fun too.
Starting point is 00:47:57 Ending this. Let's sleep. I've got more to do. I've got to go shoot some more. Hey, man. That's the way it goes. This way it goes. Friday babies X-Men.
Starting point is 00:48:05 What new, I mean, it's running on the positives, right? We are. We are. We learned Odessa, Zion's as I can say, but there we go.
Starting point is 00:48:12 That we know Odessa Zion's name. We know our fucking name. We're proud of her. All right, guys. We'll see you next week or something. Maybe. Yeah, question, comment.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Whatever the fuck. All right. Bye. Bye.
