This week's videos are sponsored by an app that I've been using since before we even partner with them. And that app is Rocket Money. More on them after the reaction people. I don't even know who's in. Do you? I just know it's Jim Carrey.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Ah! Okay. I'm excited about that. I knew nothing coming in. I don't really tend to look up anything before movies. I love me some Jim Carrey. I love it so much. Classic 90s, Jim Carrey. You ready? I'm born ready, baby. Let's do it. Okay, we just got done watching me, myself, and Irene. If you're listening on Apple or Spotify, give us a five-star rating.
Starting point is 00:02:07 We love you. Leave us comments, tell us how cool we are. Also, don't forget, Rejectnationshop.com, get your shirts. We're wearing them now. I love my child protection service. Oh, we're wearing the same shirt. We love, this is one of my favorites. I love it so much.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Okay, so yeah, I mean, I, do you want to get into your thoughts first? How are we feeling? I feel like, yeah, tell us, just right off the bat. Like, how did you feel about this movie? This is the trail mix of Jim Carrey movies. Yeah, agreed. This is the ultimate mixed bag for me. I feel like the first act is probably the funniest.
Starting point is 00:02:48 And then it had like sprinkles of comedy that worked for me, but largely fell flat. Agreed. But I think that some scenes between Jim Carrey and Renner, Renee Zellwiger really brought some of those things to life. You know, I think Jim Carrey really excelled in his physical comedy in this movie or his ability to put his physicality on display because he was just so in it. And I like how distinct between Charlie and Hank and how those two characters kind of interplayed. And like we got to see a lot of the concept on display.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Also, probably the most well-titled movie I've seen with me. And clever, you know, like me and myself and Irene, so I thought that was cool. But yeah, I just feel it was okay, you know, and I feel like, you know, I've gotten crap in the comments before. We're like, oh, if you really love the movie, why are you guys laughing the whole time? And I feel like, you know, like, there'll probably be some stints in this movie. We're just kind of looking at it. Yeah. We're just kind of just taking it in.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Yep. And, you know what, that's okay. I saw a video recently, and I'll let you. give your thoughts you know like certain pieces of comedy i guess are geared towards you know not not all comedy is universal you know it's a very subjective experience so and certain comedies are geared towards certain audiences if you like say you are a comedian that tells a lot of jokes about you know like airplanes you know i feel like that would really hit for a audience of people that are familiar with that but if you go somewhere just like a random
Starting point is 00:04:30 and bar that's probably not going to hit and i feel like right this sort of humor this farley's brother is definitely geared towards people of the 90s it's very much of its time yeah and i feel like just because of cultural experiences maybe our our own personal histories or where we live or just a number of of factors kind of played into oh this is like not exactly funny and like oh i'm like a little i'm kind of cringing at this part so you know it's I'm sure this is, some people will still get a lot out of this and just be dying from start to finish. Right.
Starting point is 00:05:05 But yeah, that was just not my experience, Tara. Yeah, I mean, we've just learned so much societally about, like, humor and writing and, like, what can we say and maybe not say? And I do agree that a lot of people are going to be like, we've gone way too PC. There should be some things that are not off the table. And I agree when, especially, like, with comedians, like, if you guys have watched the, what's his nuts, uh, Kevin Hart was the host. Tom Brady roast.
Starting point is 00:05:32 The Tom Brady roast, a lot of those comedians, they sort of went through. They said stuff that like maybe we would say in the 90s and this is a 20-24 thing. That it's like some, I get it that comedians, I think that they should be able to kind of explore on their own and this is a comedic movie. But there was a lot of outdated stuff
Starting point is 00:05:50 and outdated references. I don't like that they made like Renele Zew. She's like, I'm just a dits. And I'm like, I don't like that. But what I did like is they did switch it like she did save the day she had some some punk to her like when she beat him she just started running um i wish that they would have stuck with the storyline that she actually did have a master's and that she wasn't like a dits who failed at acting and like whatever that's fine i get it um i think
Starting point is 00:06:16 my most favorite part about this movie there was some some obvious comedy in here where we were laughing and that it was enjoyable um but i think my most favorite part is jim kerry and i said it during, if you just cut out the parts where Jim Carrey is just doing his physical comedy and he's going back between Charlie and Hank, sign me up. I'll watch that 10 minute clip probably over and over because just to, I don't know, learn. I'm like, how does he even like that would, he's, he does, it's like if someone's really good at clowning, he's great in that, obviously. I super appreciate how in depth they went with, especially towards the end, we spoke about that with the stunts and how much they showed us. Like with the car move, that was.
Starting point is 00:06:58 was a very cool shot. It looked like they legit threw the car off the cliff. Yeah. And I really liked just the stunts in general. Like Jim Carrey looked like he did a lot, especially when he flew back behind that fence. I was like, all right, Jim Carrey. And then, you know, the car
Starting point is 00:07:14 hits in some people. Okay, we got a... Temperature is 63 degrees. Pop's thumb should be all right if we find it within the next six hours. After credit scene, wow. Are you sure about that? Do the math, motherfucker. Damn. What are they looking for? Oh, the thumb. I'm looking for a spot.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Oh, yeah. Oh, gross. There it is. Hey, I think I found it. What? Oh. Oh. Get that fish.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Roll some hard. Oh, damn, what? Okay. He could have just said it's the fish, and then I'm like, oh, they cut to, like, well, I wouldn't have wanted to see it, but they cut to open it up the fish to get the thumb. I don't know. Look, I, I, I, I, this is not a movie that I would rewatch. I didn't like love it, but I do, I do adore Jim Carrey. I respect him so much. I still respect a lot of things about this movie. Like I said, the stunts. And also just to, if, if you ever want to write a comedic movie that's like very, it's weird. Like we talked about that the soundtrack was odd and very 90s. I'm like, this is what the 90s kind of, I feel like was. Is a lot of these, the same types of jokes. And, you would write it with Jim Carrey in mind because I don't think that anyone else
Starting point is 00:08:34 in the 90s as an actor could have done this justice. I think that the way Jim Carrey's physical comedy, I think it saved a lot of this movie and him switching back and forth is just Bravo. My most favorite scene was them in the bed when they were both just real people. Yeah, the genuine scene.
Starting point is 00:08:51 And I was like, thank goodness that there's not like these jokes that I'm not laughing at right now. I wanted to just take a second and see two people bond and kind of come together. And that was my favorite moment. And I could really feel their chemistry there. I enjoyed that.
Starting point is 00:09:06 And there were in other moments when they were at the train scene and they were kind of talking it through. But it was like, it was still thrown in there with jokes of like, you put it up your own ass. And we're like, okay, get it. Can we get away from like the dildo talk for a second? Because I really enjoyed it when it was just real. And she was trying to say that I really, I like Charlie.
Starting point is 00:09:26 And I enjoyed that. vulnerability and I liked when I saw that mostly. Reject Nation, when I heard that this company wanted to partner up with us yet again, I was so enthusiastic about it. Reason being, I had already been using their product for well over a year by the point we first ever collaborated with them. So the fact that we get to have this ongoing partnership just makes me a happy camper. And that is, of course, for the app, Rocket Money.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Now, if you guys don't know what Rocket Money is, don't worry. I got you covered. I'll tell you about them in just a little bit. but before that, I wanted to share with you guys why I love this app so much. It's actually a very personal reason. You see, like many of you guys, I too grew up in a home where money did not come easily, needless to say. The predominant conversation in my family household was undoubtedly about financial struggle, financial worry. And that does a number on you. So it certainly seeped into my adulthood when I was trying to learn how to become financially independent. And to
Starting point is 00:10:26 this day, as someone who talks a lot about working as mental health, who's proudly going to therapy, no matter how much lack we might have in money one day or how much success we might have in money sometimes, I still have to have this ongoing conversation about my relationship with money. I'm half Filipino, so my mom's always talking to me about taxes to this day. I think, though, it does start with how you manage the finances you currently have. See, before I ever acquired any type of reasonable living money, I heard someone speak about how you have to learn what to do with a dollar now. Essentially, the talk was about don't wait until you have like a bunch of money and then start figuring out what to do with it afterwards. Like you got a
Starting point is 00:11:04 bunch of toys to play with. If you want to acquire more in life, you have to first figure out what you're going to do with what you currently have. And that's why I love this app. It's applicable for any financial stage you are at in life. Come to think about it, it would have been very beneficial for me when I was in a real struggle boat years ago. So in summary, as someone who is constantly having an ongoing working relationship with how to handle. money, Rocket Money has helped make that relationship a lot healthier in my life. So what are they, if you don't know what they are, what they are is a personal finance app that simplifies managing money by canceling unnecessary subscriptions, lowering your bills,
Starting point is 00:11:36 and crafting a budget that fits your specific lifestyle. I'm telling you, Reject Nation, there's no greater feeling than when you look at the following month and you see that, oh my God, I have saved money. I've spent less, and progress equals happiness. The best part is Rocket Money does a lot of the heavy lifting by analyzing your spending, then customizes notifications to stay within your budget goals. It's not just about saving money. It's about actively seeing and feeling your financial progress.
Starting point is 00:12:06 And one of my favorite qualities about their service, too, is when it comes to monthly subscriptions. We've been blessed to be able to expand the team and hire more people, but with that in mind, that also comes with a lot more expenses. So as this business has been growing, having to track exuber an amount more has been just as important. So now I have to track a lot of these business expenses. Then I got to track my own personal finances. So in general, it's already been helping out a lot with that. But as you want to make things more efficient, you often find yourself signing up for a lot of apps for free
Starting point is 00:12:33 trials that you quickly forget about. Next thing you know, you're paying a hefty fine for it. I'm sure, even if you don't have a YouTube channel, there's some way you can relate with that. You see, because they track your monthly subscriptions and they make it super easy to cancel the ones you do not use. A couple of clicks and you're putting money back into your pocket. So if you're like me, if you found hidden subscriptions or pay for services that you totally forgot about, Rocket Money was a lifesaver in uncovering those and even negotiated some of my bills to about, like I'd say, down by 20%. So if you want to join me on this journey of consistently taking care of your finances, do not want to start later. The best time is to start right now.
Starting point is 00:13:09 So please do yourself a favor. Check out Rocket Money and see how much you too can be saving. That way you can stop wasting money on things you don't use. Believe me, when it came with my accountant and tax season, that was a really big note. Visit rocketmoney.com slash rejects. They've helped me, and I'm confident they'll do the same for you. That's rocketmoney.com slash rejects. Your wallet will thank you.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Because Rocket Money has over 5 million users and has saved a total of $500 million and canceled subscriptions, saving members up to $740 a year when using all of the app's features. So a great way to support your lifestyle and a great way to support the channel is by going and downloading the Rocket Money app yourself. And if it does help you, please go ahead, draw me a message. I'd love to hear if there's some way by just conveying this message, it has helped you out too. Thank you, Reject Nation. It's kind of funny because I liked his performance as playing these two characters.
Starting point is 00:14:03 And I also like the idea on paper of the premise of this guy who went through this traumatic experience that had to force himself to create another identity to deal with, the fact that he doesn't know how to process his emotions. And I think that conceptually is very interesting. And then like meeting this girl and like maybe having this, their connection and like kind of exploring through that. I think all that is great because I'm just someone who just love psychology. I just think the execution of it wasn't my favorite. Keep talking of looking up trivia.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Yeah. The execution of it wasn't my favorite. Some of the writing wasn't my favorite. And it's funny because I can get behind like cruise. or mean humor but like mean humor that doesn't land is like the worst and I'm like oh that's just kind of sucks I absolutely agree with that and I'm like uh I guess sure they pushed it a little far in this one it pushed a little far sometimes but I feel like it's only felt like it was pushed really far because it doesn't land and I feel like it wasn't done in a way that was necessarily the most clever
Starting point is 00:15:09 and I think I'm a fan of clever humor uh in addition to crude humor like I'm not I'm not like a humor snob or anything. But something else that didn't land for me. It worked in the first act, but not really throughout the movie, was the brothers. Yeah. Yeah, and it's just, I don't know. I think when you try to write stereotypical black dudes that aren't written by black people just feels like kind of weird to me, it just didn't work for me.
Starting point is 00:15:36 And I just, I like Anthony Anderson, and I like, I've seen those other two guys and stuff before, but a lot of their stuff was just kind of really fell flat for me. And just like, you know, like, okay, like, we got to give them, like, the gold tooth and, like, we got to do things that are, like, more stereotypical because, like, oh, that's funny, you know, but it just did not do it for me. Yeah. But I don't think that was weird. And you said this is probably a product of the 90s, the fact that they had, like, these 90s songs with this weird-ass score. It was odd. I was like.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I was like. And it was weird. Because sometimes it was, like, groovy and vibey. And other times it was just, like, more, like, up. beat and I'm like, what are we doing here? What is, what is like the thematic through line of the score here? There was a, coupled with the soundtrack, I was like. The only thematic choices that they made was to choose to play a love song that had
Starting point is 00:16:27 lyrics of like, I love you or I'm thinking about liking you when we would see Renee Zellweger's character sort of looking at Charlie or Hank. Yeah. In those subtle moments, they would play like kind of a love upbeat song. Other than that. I don't know. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:43 It's kind of random. Yeah, I absolutely agree. And we were like, all right, we're viving. But I think, like, maybe the music supervisor just thought, like, we need this to keep people interested. Because there was a time when the Dickie, the mullet guy had Renee, and it was in one song. He made it down the trail. He shoots open the fence, and it changed to a completely different song. I get it that now we're like, now we're really running, go on this bridge, change the song.
Starting point is 00:17:11 It just felt like a lot. and I don't think there was a theme to it. I think they were like, let's just try and keep it fun. Yeah. Like very poppy, very like, let's just put in all these songs that people might know
Starting point is 00:17:24 to keep them engaged. Yeah. I guess. Yeah. If I'm going to watch a movie where Jim Carrey has a blonde love interest and the split personality, I'm going to go with the mask over this movie.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Absolutely. Oh, my God. Those are in two different leagues. Yes, I absolutely agree with you different league movies. Entirely different leads. Entirely 110%. I've got some fun trivia for you guys.
Starting point is 00:17:48 The stunt where Jim Carrey throws himself out of the car was done only in one take. Oh, wow. Okay, let's see. Oh, God. In the Hank feeds off Milf on bench scene, Jim Carrey unknowingly latched on to Shannon Worley's right nipple. He thought she was wearing a prop,
Starting point is 00:18:11 first until he tasted the milk from her boobs. Carrie explains, it's very rare that I get to a place where I'm actually kind of humiliated, but that was one of them. It was so embarrassing to me. I was like embarrassed for the girl, but she was fine with it. She was like, yeah, whatever. But I was literally apologizing to her between every take. When it was time to film it, I had to empty the studio.
Starting point is 00:18:36 I couldn't do it in front of anybody. This is surprisingly ironic because Carrie had other times and openly admit his love for big prested women while worry had no qualms about topless scenes and wet nursing stunts because ever since one year after the film script was completed she had been playing in over a dozen erotic films in her acting career what oh okay all right so all right she got all right girl make that money good on her make that money yeah um okay this one's like I'm I'm like, really? The glasses that Michael Bowman, who played Whitey, wears are his real-life glasses,
Starting point is 00:19:19 including the little microscope. Damn. What? That's wild. That is insane. Super sight. Yeah, right? The glasses on.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Right? I'm like, okay. Jim Carrey ad-libbed the moment where he asks his sons to kiss him before he leaves. He also ad-libbed pushing the car off the cliff. He says, on nine and counts to nine very fast. It was totally ad-libbed. moment you can catch that. Renee Zellwiger is surprised in the clip. I didn't catch that, but I did love that. I was like, oh, nine, that's pretty funny. Let's see if I can find one more.
Starting point is 00:19:54 The scene where Rennel Zell Wager kicks Jim Carrey over, it was done by Jim Carrey instead of a stunt man after many pleadings. So he really, really wanted to do it. He did a few takes, but they used the first one and a mattress was used for him to plot back on, obviously. Um, okay, let me see if maybe I can get to like, I mean, these seem all like pretty much spoilers. Um, let me see if I can get one more for you guys. Uh, but da, but da, but da, okay, here's one about a song. I haven't read all of it, but let's see. In the scene where Charlie kisses Irene, she says to, he says to her, my ass is sore. The song that is playing is deep inside of you.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Yeah. There we go. I caught that. By third eye blind. Coincidentally, the lyrics you can hear after. Charlie says this, clearly say echoes deep inside of you, which is pretty good explanation for why Charlie has a sore ass. Got it. So, yeah, they use the songs as like, that's what I meant of, like, I feel like they used the love songs when we were focusing on Renee and them, where it would be like, I like you or I love you, whatever those songs were. And obviously they were playing probably with lyrics that I didn't catch that.
Starting point is 00:21:03 He did. Bingo. So maybe that has more of an explanation to the soundtrack. Yeah. Right? That maybe the lyrics were trying to feed in. more to the story, but we still felt it was a little chaotic with those choices. It was a little all over the place.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Yeah. I can agree with that. Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, I liked it. I had fun, but it's not anything I would watch again. I think there was just too many, like, cringy things for me, and I wasn't in love with the writing. The writing didn't make me go like, ha, ha, ha, that is so funny.
Starting point is 00:21:37 I just was kind of like, I get it. That's a joke, but it's not making me laugh, which is okay. I think my, funny enough, my favorite part of the movie was the beginning where him and his ex-wife are going into the house and then the guy who ends up getting with his wife, like beats him with nunchucks because it implies that he has numtucks because this is the first time he's done this. Yeah. And it's just like a repeated thing to the point where he just like beats people up.
Starting point is 00:22:02 So I thought that was, that whole bit was really funny. But the rest of the movie, you know, it had parts for me, but overall just did not. It didn't work. but that's okay. I'm sure I'm sure you guys enjoyed it and grow up with this movie as a classic. So, you know, enjoy that and enjoy the parts where we can laugh together.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Yeah, because we love laughing with you. We love you guys a bunch, whether we like the movie or not. We still love you and we hope that you love us. So thank you for watching and we will see you guys on the next one. Bye.
