Starting point is 00:01:07 It's so good. I imagine it could be really hard dealing with minions. It would be difficult. It's like having kids around all the time. We just watch Minions, The Rise of Gru, Kukachuku. Katukitiki, Fah. Tara Erickson, what did you think? I actually really liked it.
Starting point is 00:01:27 I love the minions. I think that there's a reason why there's actors in L.A., you're going to, you guys are going to think this is insane, that agents, if they want to book commercials, they tell them to go take improv and go to a clowning class. If they don't know how to be physically comedic, I didn't have that problem. But I think what this script and what this story does is they use the type of like clowning and physical comedy in this with the minions that makes me laugh every time. And it's like, no words. love it. Whoever invented the minions in their weird language and the physical comedy of what they could do as characters, you're a genius and I love you. I liked this movie. I thought that it was fun. And I like that we got to see the foundation of where Gru comes from and how, because like you said in the beginning of this, like we don't really get that vibe that Gru is a family with them. They see more like workers in the other movies except for when we kind of get into it it feels like family but in this one specifically we now see that grew treats the minions like his family which i like
Starting point is 00:02:41 yeah yes i agree great assessment of what makes minions work in the this cultural zeitgeist terra you did a great job thank you i'm really impressed five stars really impressed by that 10 stars. I thought that this movie had a delicious animation to it. The action scenes were so awesome. Yeah. Tasty. Yeah, it felt less like a Minion sequel,
Starting point is 00:03:13 the more like a Despicable Me prequel. Definitely more Gru's movie than a Minion's movie. Whereas I think in like the Despicable Me movies, it tends to be Grue story, side stories of kids, or one of the kids, and then cut away. bits are the minions. They're not really like a story. Right. Where it's here it's like it's pretty much a despicable meme movie except you cut out the kids and you swap that time with extra attention and giving the minions a story. So you got the one minion who loses the medallion on the
Starting point is 00:03:47 mission for the stone piece. The Zodiac Times East and you got our three main ones and then you got Groon and then sometimes you check in with the other villains. So I like the 70s touch to it, have this kind of felt like a last one felt like a 60s spy movie this feels like a 70s action movie totally even doubling down like the kung fu flare with the supernatural monsters at the end which is a totally different genre because the despicable me franchise deals in the science fiction and this science fiction animation comedy that was like supernatural uh terrain not really sci-fi yeah i was on board for it it was still fun to watch um it's weird like i think this movie is overall a better a sharper narrative a stronger constructed film like overall as a movie I'm
Starting point is 00:04:35 like oh no like the the plot points and the beats and as a structure it's definitely much more refined and stronger than the last one the thing I would give the the other minions movie is the other minions movie had moments and jokes that were for some reason way funnier than any of the jokes that happen in this movie. So it was like a strange bit to have where I feel like this is actually a better movie. This movie is better, looks better, and is told better and has this much better narrative. But the other one had some jokes that just had some jokes that just like really got me like crack it up like crazy. And there wasn't really a joke here that got me to like really crack up that much. Like I still really enjoyed it. Like I said overall a better movie. It's just that's the one
Starting point is 00:05:23 advantage. I think the other one had was like a surprising amount of better comedy. Yeah. I think they relied more on the physical comedy of the minions in this one, which I do still find very entertaining and cute. But dialogue-wise, script-wise, I think I agree with you that there was more jokes in the other one, like actual jokes. Yeah, that one leans a lot more comedy heavy, I think. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, this one does too. This one does too. It's just not as in a different way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's still really enjoyable. Like, I'm still really happy we watch it. And like I said, it's a strange thing to say because I'm like, oh, no, I enjoyed every second of this and it was really easy to, because it moves so fast. Yeah. I think the pacing is better. And I like how I love whenever these movies go really weird. Like, okay, they're going to get trained by some random kung fu lady now. We're going to do some like really weird visuals of, I keep his name Otto, Otto, the one minion who lost the Median? I think so. Yeah. When he's, he's He's biking and it's doing the time lapse of him going through the different cities. Oh, that was so great.
Starting point is 00:06:28 That was my favorite editing choice. It was a beautiful editing animation choice. And even like all the action stuff at the end with the supernatural creatures and then activating the inner beast within them of this like funky way that all ties together. I thought it was really inventive and cool. Like I thought there was so much creativity here in the and the heart of Gru becoming like finding a father figure in his kidnapper. Yeah, right. It's like dark, it's like, yeah, it's a good origin story of how Drew came to learn to appreciate the minions and make them a part of his family. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:02 But yeah, it's just the one thing is I feel like I just laughed a little harder and a lot a little harder at some of the jokes throughout of the first movie. I also feel like Despicable Me did a better job of the emotional aspect of it. Here's where they played very well in this film. When Gru stops because the guy kicks him out. and he goes on the trawling he looks sad and then he ends up in in chinatown he he meets the minions um they they they took just like less time i think that they i think what they could have done here let me get my thoughts right i think what they could have done like they did in despicable me has gotten us a little bit closer to where like i cried in despicable me and
Starting point is 00:07:45 i think one and possibly two but i thought it was they left us on a high know which I liked of him and his like now villain dad whatever with villain number six but um they spent like a shorter amount of time of building up that relationship and I think what despicable me did a great job of was certain callbacks that came that really solidified the relationship between grew and the kids and we didn't get those callbacks which is odd because this is made after and that's such a smart writing move to add in those callbacks with them that I think really ties to the emotional depth of the movie. Although I did really feel it like I really like that they left us with a good 10 seconds of just silence and Gru kind of gets on the trolley and we're seeing him have that
Starting point is 00:08:37 moment where he's sad but then he gets he gets with the minions. And of course the ending is really it's sweet. It's very, very sweet. And I like that you know, He's crying at his fake funeral and saying how much, you know, he loves him and then figures out he's still alive, which is really, really sweet. I think I just wanted it to hit home a little bit more the connection with Gru and Villain 6 and then all the minions, like, being reunited. I think what was missing in that development is when Gru is kidnapped in that stage, when he was held hostage stage, that the villain 6 did seem just purely evil. Yeah. It didn't seem like he was in conflict at all with the fact. fact that it was a kid or when grub was like spewing like you're my favorite uh villain and
Starting point is 00:09:23 stuff like he never seemed like affected by that like even even like a hint of a look he constantly seemed very much unaffected by it and was just a pure villain and so it like the switch just sort of happens where out of like a selfishness when the other people abandoned him and then he's saved by by the crocodiles right you know so it just kind of comes in a little late where I think that they peppered in a little bit of that earlier on. I think that it would have felt a little bit more earned and more felt throughout. Yes, because the kids do that with Gru and Dispicable Me. I think so.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I don't really remember. I'm like kind of a compliment and you can read all over Gru's face that he hasn't heard that in a while and it endears us to that relationship. And I think they were lacking a little bit in that. I feel like you just have more callbacks in this film. Honestly, I, you know, my memory is absolute shite. But for some reason today, maybe it's because I drank a little bit of Celsius that I'm remembering that in Dispicable Me, there was like a decent amount of callbacks that were so good in the script that we didn't get that many in this. What do you mean by callbacks?
Starting point is 00:10:31 Callbacks like they, they'll, in the beginning, they'll make like, and I can't, I'm sad that I can't remember the actual lines. But a callback is like you, a character, like the little unicorn girl will say something to grew in the. beginning and then at the end of the movie that will come back as a line that's like oh it means something different now it's a good callback after they've been through all of this thing like i love callbacks and scripts they're my favorite the tie-ins and stuff got you yeah all right yeah maybe that would have helped it yeah especially because like i wouldn't judge the story of minions the same as i judge the story here because minions is main the first one is mainly setting out to just make you like like it's mainly meant to just be funny and entertaining
Starting point is 00:11:14 You know, right. Or this is like, they want to kind of get you a little bit in the fields a little more. Totally. It's more of a despicable me movie. So, like, I judge a little bit more of the narrative, a bit different. But I don't know. I think it's like a worthy addition to the Despicable Me franchise. Me too.
Starting point is 00:11:27 It was entertaining and fun. The only one I have ever had real problem getting through was the third movie. I agree. That one was tough. But this one was not that tough. No, this one was really good. And the pacing was good, which I liked. I thought this one was really good.
Starting point is 00:11:42 It's still really inventive and really cool to watch. The action scenes are just. The action scenes always deliver. They always deliver. And the POV shots they use for like the, like, she put a chain down on the, on the ground. That was a cool POV from down below towards the bike. There's also a cool POV with the dummy that they're trying to hit and him like going down. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:02 They just think of cool ways to use the camera angle to bring us into the story, which I like. And it also keeps the pacing moving. Yeah. Hell yeah. Anyway, guys. Minions, rise of grew. Yeah. Go get your Sheecks T-shirt, please.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Please, please. That's available in black and blue. Boobies bounce. Show them, zoom in on that. Bounce boobies. That's the unisex in blue and black. There's also a crop top that's available in black and white, which, yeah, look at the pictures. We're posting them on our Instagram, but we would love it if you guys would go get it.
Starting point is 00:12:39 It's perfect for summer. We love you. What else you got to say? Andrew and Aaron. I can't believe they're going to get her now. It's like three stooges. The struggle is real. He's the boss.
Starting point is 00:12:53 He's got his shoes. We love you guys. Annie. Annie. You know, whenever I think of you, I just look at you as you're, you'd be like the fourth minion. But him. There's Kevin, Stewart, Bob, and then Annie.
Starting point is 00:13:12 It's because, you know, all the minions, they tend to be. guys, for the most part, and we need a female minion. And whenever I think about who's a good female minion, I think Andy, she would help serve all my villainous causes and probably bring out a good guy inside of me on top of all of that while I get a feeder of bananas. I don't mean that isn't in a creepy way. I mean, like an actual, an actual banana. You know, sometimes you're talking to a woman, and then you say, I'm going to give you a banana,
Starting point is 00:13:42 and that can sound like creepy and gross. but I'm talking about like an actual banana. Like one from like a grocery store and you'd probably really eat it up. And when I say eat it up, I'm talking about eating up the banana. Danny, please don't cancel me. I'm trying my best to give you a really nice shout out. And then somehow you're trying to make me out to be like a creep. And I don't like the way this is really stupid is forming.
Starting point is 00:14:05 I'm going to end the shout out now.
