Join Tara Erickson & Aaron Alexander as they dive into Christopher McQuarrie’s adrenaline-fueled 2015 installment, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. When the IMF is shut down by a covert syndicate known only as “The Syndicate,” Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick, Jack Reacher) goes off-book to stop a global conspiracy that threatens world order. Hunt is joined by the enigmatic double-agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson, The Girl on the Train, The White Queen), whose loyalties keep you guessing at every turn. Backing him up (and providing much-needed tech support) is Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek), while William Brandt (Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker, The Avengers) brings battlefield savvy to the team. The sinister mastermind Solomon Lane (Sean Harris, Prometheus, Macbeth) orchestrates chaos from the shadows, opposed by steadfast ally Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames, Pulp Fiction, The Transporter). Rounding out the ensemble are Atlee (Simon McBurney, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), the Syndicate’s cold-hearted handler, and CIA Director Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock, The Departed), whose orders drive Hunt to desperate measures. Tara & Aaron break down every iconic sequence—from the opera-house break-in under the Vienna chandelier and the daring underwater vault heist, to the high-speed motorcycle chase through the narrow streets of Morocco and the gravity-defying cargo-plane finale. Don’t miss their take on the film’s jaw-dropping stunts, intricate espionage, and the moral tightrope Ethan walks between duty and trust. Starting point is 00:00:00 It is the cold habitual And it is the cold of Montagne blue The froy at his summit
Starting point is 00:00:06 Cozlight T'envue in front of a fashion responsible You have have the age legal
Starting point is 00:00:12 for consuming of alcohol Thank you to Liquid Ivy And prize Picks for sponsoring this video
Starting point is 00:00:18 More on them in just a bit Let's Frikin go Yeah Let's get to this this is we're in baby 15 out of 15 i can't oh my god like i i legit can't thank you to prepper for helping
Starting point is 00:00:42 edit down these highlights we appreciate you also eric at nerd chronic um yeah oh my god i i don't think i've ever seen this movie i mean that's how i feel about all of them because remember I'm like I'm a big oh look at him on the freaking plane look at that great start god he's so cool he's great um I gee I mean obviously I remember nothing I don't know how many I know that I've definitely seen the first one but like this is Wackadoo that I this is I don't think I've ever seen this movie because I would be running around telling everyone to watch it like this movie is amazing um and I I I I I Yeah, I think you have the, and I remember telling my friends, when I started watching Silo on Apple, I was like, oh, yeah, this, that girl on Silo.
Starting point is 00:01:35 I was like, we don't, I don't even know who that girl is. And then my friend Eric was like, oh, she's a Mission Impossible girl. I was like, what? What? Like, so I just, everything is amazing to me. I love it. This was so freaking good. I feel just, I feel stoked.
Starting point is 00:01:55 right now and how good that movie was that's how i feel right now what about you i feel great i feel awesome that movie was like a shot of adrenaline to my system man uh man it's it's so funny because i remember us before going into this movie i think we kind of maintained that three was our favorite uh unanimously out of the five we've experienced so far but i think this one kind of rivals three I think I was like three slightly more But this one's like right there for me Because it was able to do what I felt like The last one was a little bit lacking
Starting point is 00:02:31 And showing giving us that Feeling of these guys are truly on their own And even though we don't necessarily get So much as an arc for Ethan The fact that they were able to give him weaknesses By giving him an enemy that's so formidable But also Keep putting him in a position where one
Starting point is 00:02:49 He truly feels alone Until he finally collects his crew But also you put the people that he cares about in danger and put him in danger so you're having the this threat that's that's really interesting and really cool coupled with the fact that we're using action to escalate the story and put him in positions where we're always having him on his back foot giving him a reason to feel like he is not necessarily on top of everything which is which is awesome and yeah i loved it the way that the story kept escalating the stakes the way that the
Starting point is 00:03:23 action was was so visceral and constant and the way that the stunt coordination was really had us on the edge of our feet, on the edge of our toes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All the things. We're on all the edges because this was really great in the way the movie starts as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I'm just, I'm blown away. I'm really blown away. And I think this is really where it's kind of hitting its stride. We're five movies in and it's only continuing to get. get better. It's only continuing to keep us engaged as an audience. And I thought that it's funny because when the movie started, I was like, okay, we're doing the
Starting point is 00:04:01 we're on our own against the agency thing again. But I think it's not about how many times you do it. It's about how you execute it. I feel like this movie executed it as well, if not better than I think of the third one did. But yeah, that's where my thoughts are for now. Tara, how are you feeling? What are you thinking? Oh, man. I mean, this is just, it's so
Starting point is 00:04:22 freaking good. Rebecca Ferguson is such a good, just add in to this. Just so believable. I love that she was doing her own stunt, especially in the motorcycle. And I mean, you cannot show us that stunt where she hops on top of that guy and pulls him down. It's one of the coolest things I've ever seen and not call it back. So I'm so glad they did that. I mean, that was just, this movie is so exciting and I think the pacing is just right it's it's literally it only puts its foot off the gas a little bit and it's not like even to give us exposition it's really like to give us uh just really a glimpse into the world see the way they're moving without needing to they're basically just showing us the story where we're moving um and we didn't need like a lot of exposition in this
Starting point is 00:05:18 which was great. It was really just walking us through the script. Everyone, which I especially liked, I know that Simon Pegg is the comedic relief. But what I think they did in this one is that they made Ving Rames mixed with Renner, especially when they're in their car, they gave them a lot of more comedic lines,
Starting point is 00:05:40 which made this just seem a little more lighthearted while elevated at the same time. I mean, when they come around, that corner in the beamer they land right next to them in the jeep they look at each other and they're like and they move on like that's so funny it's such i think i assume in the script that that was in the description maybe they decided on set to do that i don't know but i do feel like where they fit in the comedy and the jokes worked completely well without losing the point of view of what this movie is and what we come for, which is action.
Starting point is 00:06:19 They just took little seconds, whether it's with Simon Pegg at the top or throughout, right, especially when Tom's driving the car. And we see that that's real. I'm very curious to see behind the scenes of what Simon Pegg would say when he was in the car with Tom. He's putting his life basically on the line with Tom. He has to go, I trust you, right? He's not in the car with a stunt drive.
Starting point is 00:06:44 He's with Tom Cruise, who is a stunt. We get it. So there's comedic aspects there, but we never lost sight of the action at all. And the only time that we put our foot off the gas, again, as I said, is really just to give us an extra glimpse into the world or really to, like, display a new character, which was when Rebecca Ferguson sat down with the weird hair guy. His hair, kill me. I don't know if he was like, I got to hang on to it. he had to hang on to the strands up there or if like hair and make it was like no it works for this character i don't i don't know but maybe i'm nuts but it was distracting to me his hair was
Starting point is 00:07:30 weird um i love the twist and turns we finally got a mask reveal which was great which is with the character that i was saying and it's him which was a lot of fun because you didn't get as many masks in this um but i didn't i didn't mind that The reveal the end sort of made us forget, wait, our masks going to still be involved here, and they made us wait, and I think that that was such a fun reveal. And I like bringing it all the way to the end,
Starting point is 00:07:59 where Alec Baldwin is like, yes, sir, this was our plan all along. And I'm like, oh, it so wasn't, but how genius is it that, of course, the IMF going rogue, is the only way to prove to the CIA and really everybody else, the IMF is really the only ones that know what the F is going on around here and that you can't disable them because then you would be totally screwed.
Starting point is 00:08:26 So it's just very exciting. No, yeah, things are extremely exciting. I think the way that they're able to keep upping the stakes with it is also really cool. And I like that. I think I would like Baldwin did a good job. Can I be in that guy that was opposing them? But yeah, I think that watching them all work together.
Starting point is 00:08:44 and especially they found a way to make Rebecca Ferguson so interesting because we never really understood where her alliances really were even though we kind of had an idea because it gives a little bit of insight but because her actions kept seeming contradictory I love the audience with the sense of is she really here back and forth back and forth exactly yeah and it sucks that you know she was in a position where she really didn't have any buddy she could really trust you know between uh British intelligence and then obviously the syndicate she was working with them And then, yeah, I like the comparison, like, well, we are all working for these agencies, but we really can't trust any of them between the CIA, the syndicate, and the British intelligence. So I liked that all kind of coming in tandem and showing that. I'm still a little, not even not confused, but I guess unsure of like the size of the IMF, because in three, it was like a whole gang of people. but then the last two like oh you guys are just like these five guys and you are the whole organization but they kind of made it like it gets a little bit more clear like oh these these five agents rather well because remember in the train in the last one they were like you're currently looking at the i'mf and it was only those five of them yeah and then the last one it was like lawrence fishburn
Starting point is 00:10:00 exactly a lot yeah that whole office exactly yes so yeah i'm i'm a little curious about that but yeah i think this movie improved on four in nearly every way dang near every all the every way shit but not to say the four was bad i think four was a lot of fun but i think it has that that personal element in it as well it has the the constant action the action elevating the story it has a foe that's actually really interesting i think the first foe we've had since three that actually is is really putting Ethan on his back foot, you know, from the, even at the beginning scene where he gets the message, you know, like, psych, it's actually the syndicate and they put him in the box and their prize level of that on the end was really
Starting point is 00:10:44 cool. Very cool. And I'm excited to see where this goes next. I'm like, okay, we have three more of these. We took down the syndicate. Obviously, the syndicate's like a global international organization. So I have to imagine maybe we'll get some other syndicate stuff in the future. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:00 but I would hope that, you know, we would take advantage of that. Just because you take out the head doesn't mean the whole thing dies. Right. Now, I also like the fact that this one had a closer through line to the fourth one. Because obviously there's like a little bit between three and four because they referenced the fact that he had to let his wife go and you see her, him looking at her in the distance. But this one is like, okay, because of the stuff that happened in four, we're going to shut your guys down in five. So I like, and I like the fact that we kept most of the team. I think with it being an ensemble piece,
Starting point is 00:11:34 I feel like it makes it stronger because it gives you a sense of trust in someone to bounce off of Tom Cruise consistently. And granted, we've had that within the first three with Ving Reims, but having a whole cast of people really adds to that. I like Simon Pegg being more involved in this one. I think Jeremy Renner creates an interesting character
Starting point is 00:11:51 to bounce off of Tom Cruise because he's the guy who wants to do things by the book. Tom Cruise is like, no, I want to do things my way, but I'm usually right and I have a hunch. and he's someone who not only takes risk with his body but risks with the circumstances that they all put themselves in like that scene where he was talking to to lane through simon peg or uh through benging i thought that was such an interesting and intense scene because he's playing chicken knowing how high the stakes are and ultimately winning that that circumstance and i think it just goes to how great of an actor tom cruise is and i like seeing him this character because he's just so good at it and not only from the point of acting but also just stuff that he puts himself through and I'm excited to see what stuff they have him do next I see from a picture here something involving a motorcycle again and then I saw like a small image
Starting point is 00:12:48 I don't know what the context is I don't know I don't know anything about it but I think he might be like skydiving in the next one I don't know but yeah I really really enjoyed this one I think they did a great job Reject Nation the basketball playoffs are heating up. And if you want to turn your takes into something real, you've got to check out prize picks. Our go-to in the Daily Fantasy Sports World. If you've never tried it, here's how it works. It's relatively simple. You pick two to six players and you guess whether or not they'll get more or less than the stat line price picks sets, like Luca for more than 28 points or Tatum for more than eight rebounds. Basketball terminology. It's that simple. If your picks hit, you win. Even
Starting point is 00:13:27 my dumb noggin can keep up with that and the more picks that you string together the more money you can make up to 1,000 times your entry and what's cool is it's not just basketball you can mix and match players across different sports like baseball football hockey even esports it's like building your own custom bet it's all based on player stats and you're in full control plus they invented something called flex play which means even if one of your picks misses you can still win cash and payouts are super fast i've seen it hit in under 15 minutes so here's what you can do you can download the app to day and use code rejects to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup again that's code rejects $50 instantly after your first $5 lineup price picks run your game
Starting point is 00:14:10 reject nation summer's coming up fast which means we got beach days hikes maybe one or two outdoor shoots lined up maybe and if there's one thing i've learned while getting in shape this year that hydration makes a huge difference back at the end of january i wait 218 pounds it has a The last time I weighed myself, I am 179 now, six-pack Greg coming in. I need it for the summer. In all seriousness, Liquid Ivy, and these are bags I bought. They didn't send it. I bought them myself.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Liquid IV has been a constant in my life. I take one at least once a day. The one I mainly take is their sugar-free hydration multiplier, especially the raspberry lemonade, my favorite. It's real simple. You just tear it open. Pour it into 16 ounces of water. You can either shake it, mix it, you're good to go. Sometimes I mix it with my protein shake to give my.
Starting point is 00:14:57 protein shake, a little bit extra flavor. I especially use it after cardio or during long work days. And even on rest days, when I want to stay sharp, it's just a great pick-me-up. It feels so good. And liquid IV, one of the advantages that they have. They have three times the electrolytes than your leading sports drink,
Starting point is 00:15:13 plus eight essential vitamins and minerals. And it's powered by LIV hydroscience, which basically helps your body absorb everything fast. It's vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and seriously, no artificial junk. So if you're gearing up for a better summer, looking for a good midday pick me up you know hydration's important the multitude of reasons to
Starting point is 00:15:33 support your body and also to support the channel liquid iv actually helps so you can go to liquid iv com and use code rejects to get 20% off your first order that's liquid ivy dot com code rejects thank you again liquid iv for partnering up with us yet again love you so much yeah i think um i think what they did also a really great job of is putting rebecca in to here, but making her obviously a match for Ethan Hunt specifically. For sure. He has met his match in this movie. The fact that she can do all of the same stunts as him, right?
Starting point is 00:16:12 But also highlights more of his humanity from the top when he's like, he's found out, right? They're like, this is the syndicate. Whoa. And you're like, oh, Ethan Hunt isn't always 10 steps ahead, right? It shows us a little bit more of his humanity. And it especially gets highlighted when Rebecca has to go and save him. We have not seen Hunt saved really that way. And I love that it's by a woman and it's her and she's just a badass.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And we're not cutting away from her to fill it in with a stunt person. That is her, which is to me perfect casting. And also I think that if you were. producer, you would be absolutely insane not to use her again. And I don't know if she's, I feel like they did that with other ones where the girls like, I'll see you later and then we never see her again. So I really hope that we do. But again, we haven't really gotten, the women don't really come back. But she's different with stunts specifically. And she just has a very good vibe where She didn't have to say much, and you believe her.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I didn't get the same thing from the girl in the last one. Rebecca's a big step above in everything that she brings to the table. And I really like the writing at the end because normally in the Mission Impossible movies, he ends up kissing one of the girls, right? Or he's like a vibe. And in this one, I like that she just went to hug him, right? Yeah, that they're not. It's not rush it.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Exactly. They're not pushing that narrative on us so quickly as they may in in the past ones, which I like, which made us sort of think maybe she will come back, right? Because they're not, they didn't push that on us. It's sort of like it's lingering in the air. And I'm waiting to see what's next. I love this movie so much. One of my favorite movies, hands down. We run around being like, have you seen Rogue Nation? Rogue Nation. Like, oh, my God. It's possible five. Like, get out of town. Now I'm convinced I've only seen one and seven. That's it.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Because the, the poster he's looking at, I go, oh, I remember that. That's it. That was a couple years ago. That one came out. But yeah. That was recent. That's why. I'm like, otherwise I would be like, I need a poster of Rogue Nation in my part.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Like, this movie to me just so much fun. It's great. I loved it. So I realized that we did not do the Rotten Tomatoes for the last one. We didn't? Okay. So we did it for three, but not for four. Because remember you were blown away by three and how the fact that it was so loud.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Oh, yeah. I was so mad. Oh, God. Am I going to be able to remember four? That's how bad my memories. Okay. It was about two days ago. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:19:11 But like it was like the Russians and then they had Paula Patton and that was Jeremy Renner was introduced and he felt bad because he killed his wife. I thought he killed his wife. That's right. And the wife's revealed. Right. And I was like kind of like it, but the pacing, it was slow in the middle when they went to the party. Okay. All right. Okay. Critics for four. I'm going to give it a 65 audience. I'm going to give it a 75. I'm going to give it a 75. Okay. One of those you were very close. The other one that were way off.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Okay. Which, okay. Go. Critics. for Mission Possible Ghost Protocol. Is it like 50%? It's 94. Oh my God. People love that movie. Oh, my God. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:03 949 critics. But that's very low. Only 249? That's a lot of people. That's a lot. To make a 94%? Yeah, yeah. You're right.
Starting point is 00:20:13 What about audience? Audience. You said 75 for audience. It was 76. See. Say, say, see what I mean there. Okay. I'm with that.
Starting point is 00:20:22 I'm with the 76. I'm surprised at the 95, but maybe it's because they were more focusing on the script. I was more focusing on how I feel inside internal pacing and the vibe of the movie. Now look, this one, this one, which critics better freaking be 96%. And with the audience, it better be, freaking, it better be. I'm, it better be at least like 92.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Okay. So Rogue Nation has more critics, more reviews. Okay. So it's going to be lower. 325. Okay. Okay. So are you cementing your answers at 96?
Starting point is 00:21:05 I think because it's a little more, I'm going to go to 92 for critics and audience 96. That's, I'm landing. Okay. You said 92 for critics? You know what's funny about both those answers you said? What? They're both two off. because it's 94 again.
Starting point is 00:21:25 And 94 for critics? 94 for critics? Good. Yeah. And what about audience? The audience, it was out of 50,000 reviews, it was 87%. Okay, good. Now, see, you know, we do match up because we didn't love four, but we weren't hating on it.
Starting point is 00:21:44 But this movie makes you feel some shite. I stood up out of my freaking tear. I'm not. We're not supposed to do that here. I couldn't help it. Oh my God, this movie. Like, I need a poster. I need a t-shirt. I need to run around. Tell everybody you watch Rogue Nation. I can't believe it. I can't. I love this movie to death. 15 out of 15. We love you guys. You got any last words for them. No, let's rock. I'm ready to see on the next one. I can't. I can't freaking wait. Leave a like. Leave a comment. You know all the juice. We love you guys. And we will see you. on the next one.
