Greg Alba and Tara Erickson embark on a new oceanic adventure as they react to Disney's Moana 2 (2024).Auli'i Cravalho returns to voice Moana as she ventures beyond the reefs to uncover new horizons. Dwayne The Rock Johnson (Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle & Fast Five) returns as the demigod Maui. The film introduces new characters, including Moana's younger sister, Simea (voiced by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda), and fellow voyagers Moni (Hualālai Chung), Loto (Rose Matafeo), and Kele (David Fane). Returning favorites like Heihei the chicken and Pua the pig also make delightful appearances. They react to songs / music videos such as "Tulou Tagaloa (Sei e Va'ai Mai)" by Olivia Foa'i & Te Vaka, "We're Back" by Auli'i Cravalho & Cast, "Tuputupu (The Feast)" by Te Vaka, "Beyond" by Auli'i Cravalho feat. Rachel House, "My Wish for You (Innocent Warrior)" by Olivia Foa'i, Sutata Foai-Amiatu, Matatia Foa'i, Matthew Ineleo, and Opetaia Foa'i, "Finding The Way" by Olivia Foa'i & Te Vaka, "What Could Be Better Than This?" by Auli'i Cravalho, Hualālai Chung, Rose Matafeo, and David Fane, "Get Lost" by Awhimai Fraser, "Can I Get a Chee Hoo?" by Dwayne Johnson, and "Mana Vavau" by Dwayne Johnson, Opetaia Foa'i, and Rachel House. Let's see if these songs live up to "How Far I'll Go," "You're Welcome," "We Know the Way," "Shiny," "Where You Are," "Logo Te Pate," "I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)," "Know Who You Are," and "An Innocent Warrior." Starting point is 00:01:00 More on them in just a bit. So, thank you so much. Let's do it, guys. Let's do it. Well, while we went for the post-credit scene, we're going to be reviewing this. And the review, if you're listening to us on Apple or Spotify, we'll be quiet for a little bit so we can react to the post-credit scene. I think there's a post-credit scene. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Yeah. I think so. All right, Tara. Yeah. Well, how do you feel now? You know what? I feel good. I really love the ending.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It's like this is such an uplifting movie, even though there's some tension in there, a real. But it always gets me like when at the end, I almost started crying when it was like, sis, you know, little sis, big sis. I just, they really know how I think to represent family and love in a really great way in this movie. and the like especially highlighting ancestors like when she's with her grandma and her grandma says it's still the same but a little bit different whatever the line is I just really love it I love this whole film I thought it was very exciting I will say my one thing is I did like the song a song or two more from the first one than this one but I still really like this one I think the first one, I may have, it hits me a little closer to home, but also, what is her song?
Starting point is 00:02:32 It's like the, how far I'll go. Love that song. But I liked everything in this. I thought, I mean, it looks gorgeous. It looks beautiful. It drew me in. I'm surprised we never went back to the girl, the girl who we thought was the villain. We didn't really see her again after she was like, which I'm sure will follow up.
Starting point is 00:02:51 But we didn't. Yeah. yeah yeah i got i got mixed feelings about this one honestly and i want to communicate in a way because i am i care to be straightforward about things at the same time i care to be respectful depending on who i'm having a conversation with yeah so terra is very much moved by it and the last thing i want to do is shy all over just really like be like i really want you to get my criticisms Oh my god, here we go. Okay, so there we go.
Starting point is 00:03:26 A human should never have been able to reach Motufe 2. Is that him? I guess that's him. That is him. I, of course, have no idea how she did it. Is this a sequel setup? Oh, my God. I paid my did.
Starting point is 00:03:42 We are finished. Whoa. No. We're just getting started. Oh, he's bad. Set up. Oh, sorry, are we not doing evil laughs? Oh, he's back.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Do you want to hear a song? Yep. Funky crab legs. Funky crab legs. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Something like that. Good for counting. Well, that answers your question.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Yeah, it did. Yeah, it did. But, yeah, again, I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to, like, rain on anyone's parade here. Just rain on it. It's not like I don't have more critiques. So just, you know, let's do some raining. My summary of, I thought this a little bit, like, probably like 20 minutes before it ended,
Starting point is 00:04:31 but I wanted to see if my feelings changed on what my summary and my feelings would be, depending on how it ended. And I still think it's about the same, even with the post-credit scene, is, you know those, back then they used to do like the straight-to-video Disney sequels. Yes. Lanking 2, Little Mermaid 2, Aladdin's. This feels like that, maybe. This feels like the storytelling quality of that.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Yeah. With the production quality of a Disney movie sequel. So it's like beautiful and it is well performed and the effects are grand. And even the songs, I think the songs are good. I don't feel like any. There's something about the songs that I felt like. it never quite really hit that mark of like wow this is great this is smoothing you know they all felt like the beats that they had to hit when you compare the beats to the previous moana movie and then the
Starting point is 00:05:36 some of them did feel like sequel song so i always like the intention i always like the i like them overall like when they were there i was listening i was listening them and enjoying them but they didn't didn't really have that feel like i've after watching moana one i don't remember like the specific beats i remember more of how i felt about qualities and aspects of those movie of that movie more that i do remember the specific beats but i will say i did find myself playing some songs when i was like exercising like i want to listen to some of these moana songs while i like the songs none of them quite hit me on that level where like i want to go like listen to them again you know no not for me either and i do think that
Starting point is 00:06:20 that it weirdly, like, it's a hundred minutes this movie, but it feels remarkably short and not a, not the most complimentary way, because I, I was like, yes, this is a, this is an enjoy, again, it's like those, those straight to DVD sequels. Yeah, enjoyable. Exactly. Yeah. You watch those on that merit. When I would watch those, I watched it like, I'm aware I'm watching, even as a little kid, I'm aware I'm watching a straight to video sequel. Yeah. So, but I'm so, so I'm still literally just be like, I. like being here. I like watching it. I like enjoying it. Little Mermaid 2. Really like that movie. Maybe it wouldn't love it if it was like a theatrical release film. It's a DVD movie. I'm like, I really like this one. This is really enjoyable to me. And I do feel like this. I'm talking specifically about the storytelling feels like it's on par with one of those. Like this whole thing
Starting point is 00:07:14 when Nalo, I feel like we were building up and then we don't ever really. So, but it's the time they got the island was like oh that's that's it like i kept feeling like there was so much more they had to like struggle through before we got there and if the struggle felt like remarkably short like when you really think about it right yeah she'd go they'd set out on the journey they find clam island they're trapped there for five minutes yeah and then they're attacked by weird um sandworm looking eel creatures right then they're lost and then more i was like everything i do fails i'm a failure life sucks and then when Maui's like, I'm going to cheer you up now.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Like, okay. I guess that's. And then they have the big bat. And I still felt like there was like more to come. Yeah. But it seemed like they got to this part of like, all is lost before two, like not much had happened, really. Especially compared to the last movie where I felt like we really had like a journey. And then, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Oh my God. Am I cutting out on my end? Or can you hear me still consistently? No, I can hear you just fine. my end. But yeah, but by the time they do get to the ending, I'm like, oh, it's over. We never even see Nala. We never, this presence they keep talking about. Right. Sure, we see him in a post-credit scene that feels like some weird Marvel ending. But we don't actually get to see the threat that we've been having here the whole. He doesn't really feel like an actual presence. Right. And
Starting point is 00:08:38 so I do feel like while it's like an appropriate runtime, it feels like short, because especially for a movie that kept going like, it's bigger than last time. It's literally just. saying it in their songs like this is bigger it's more dangerous it's going to be epic it's it's kind of like last time but not yeah and then it it it felt like the way i felt about the songs like it never quite reached that emotional height or um impact that i expected it to go to so yes pleasant journey enjoyable journey fantastic animation i'm happy to just be in the moana world I feel better. If we're talking about the feeling experience,
Starting point is 00:09:23 I was feeling not great before I watched this movie. I ultimately do feel better right now. Yeah. I do feel better right now. So thank you film for that. But I think like just on the, I don't know, movie quality. Yeah, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:45 More than once like an amazing ass film. Yeah. So it's hard. like live so it's not even just like compare it's i want to make that clear it's like it's not a comparison to the first one it just it it compares to the first one i think it pales in comparison but as just a film alone i do think that it kept some stuff just kind of like we're hitting beats and even though the nalo thing not not seeing him until like the post credits i'm like what that's kind of bullshit yeah it's a little weird because normally you know in a script we have
Starting point is 00:10:09 like that dark night of the soul they didn't really give us that um and and the only reason i say that is because when she feels so defeated, we don't actually feel that defeated with her. No, exactly, that's a problem, yeah. And what you want to put us in, like, think about Lion King, right? Between, like, Muf, I'm talking about O.G. Lion King. Like, between Mufasa and his dad died, you are brought through the ringer.
Starting point is 00:10:35 So when he is defeated, you were like, oh, my gosh, there's panic, there's anxiety. You are feeling it. You want to get your, like, please, movie, take me anywhere else right now because I don't want to be. stuck in this. I didn't feel that with this movie. I'm not saying that, you know, every time we've got to go through the ringer emotionally, but Disney normally is pretty good at that. Obviously, in Moana One, we did have that. Like, I think I cried in the beginning of it because, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:03 I was raised by me Abolita and my mom. And to see that, you know, they're both gone. And for that, I was really, I felt very connected to it. And in this one, I'm glad that she was still there. We We still hit on ancestry and culture and how she is now the leader. We all wanted to see Moana go from one. And she's like, I'll prove you wrong. I'm going to go out. She does. And now here she's in the position we all wanted her to be in.
Starting point is 00:11:31 But the thing that was missing is us feeling like her being a leader was in danger. And I think they truly wanted us to feel that, right? They put Maui in danger All his tattoos went away I was like is he going to die Struck by lightning I get there going away from the storm But we didn't really
Starting point is 00:11:52 I know before the storm hit It was kind of what they were leading up To Dark Night of the Soul With our main character Except it wasn't that dark It was just sort of there And I get that it's a kid's movie But in the first one
Starting point is 00:12:06 It hit us more And I think when you take us there Then the emotional quality of what happens afterwards hit you even more because you can't have joy without the you can't really experience
Starting point is 00:12:19 full joy without like a dark sadness once you've experienced that you realize the difference absolutely I think when I compare it to the first one of those sequels the feeling that you have
Starting point is 00:12:32 with those sequels before is it just feels like an adventure installment with some things where they're trying to force some like growth journey stuff in there. So I was loving the setup of her less about like let me try to prove myself, but let me try to ultimately serve people and serve my, my tribe.
Starting point is 00:12:53 And what, what, like, I thought the setup in that first half hour was actually very strong for her, her leadership journey. And what, but by the time the movie ends, I don't feel like her character arc is that defined. it's a little like kind of like okay she she pulled it off she pulled off the journey right
Starting point is 00:13:16 but and then she was willing to like sacrifice herself which is always like awesome but yeah I think like the first movie again I've only seen at that time when I reacted to it and that was a while it was a couple years ago you know so it's not like fresh in my mind and I have all this reverence I'm holding for it
Starting point is 00:13:32 it's just when you're using the same characters that is the ultimate best way to compare is that the jerk their character First, they had a character arc as a relationship dynamic in the first one. Yeah. And then there's also the individual character arcs that Maui and Moana have. And that seemed like there were setups for things that didn't fully pay off. Even when it comes to like the team dynamic, you know, with I'm going to recruit these people and we don't really spend too much time with this team.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Not that I was really like, I really want to see this team. But even there, it seemed like there was room for, okay, they have to learn to work together as a team and want to have to lead this little crew. when they first cut to them on out and water it's like chaos right um and then eventually they're just kind of working together you know uh so yeah i think like payoff is probably the bigger word here of what i felt when watching it is that the payoffs are not really super strong again got to emphasize this feel good feel good um just like on the end on the logical level of how i'm observing there's parts that did not really hit the mark but in terms of this like a kid's movie yeah It's a good kids movie.
Starting point is 00:14:40 It's a solid kids movie. I can't imagine kids watching the sequel and being like, man, those things that those guys are real rejects said. Yeah, I agree. You're a kid. I imagine you're a kid you're going to really love this film. And in the day, that is the target audience. I just think, like, the storytelling of Moana 1 exceeds more than, like,
Starting point is 00:14:56 just good for kids. It's a very much all ages kind of experience. Yeah. And for this one, it does feel more like, yeah, this is really good for kids with the heightened production quality compared to the first one, you know? Yeah. I think in the first one, the key main factor is that Moana truly changed. We saw it and we felt it in regards to what you're saying character arc. In this one, the biggest thing I guess that they're trying to show us is that she does get her tattoos. But there's still a little bit of me saying, did we really feel like we earned them? Did we go through a lot to get there? And we went through enough, I mean, an okay amount. But it didn't feel like, I guess to me, as an adult like we did enough. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:46 For her to be changed. Reject Nation, it's a new year and we want to start strong, right? And for me, that means finding simple ways to stay on track. Especially when it comes to eating well. And that's why I've been loving. This is my own order. Not one sent to me. H-U-E-L.
Starting point is 00:16:06 That's on screen, right? I trust him a lot. A few months ago before partnering with. with them. I actually asked them to send me a few bottles. That way I could make sure I like it before I talk about it. And yeah, I ended up loving it. And now I am a regular customer. I think I've spent more than they've paid me. Right now I'm down to my last bottle because coigendro, you keep stealing my bottles. Anyway, here's why Hewles Black Edition, ready to drink works for me. It's a complete meal in a bottle packed with over 30 grams of protein and
Starting point is 00:16:32 27 essential vitamins and minerals. So you're not just filling up. You're fueling up. Perfect for busy mornings or when I don't feel like cooking or if I'm in a rush, which is my life, just grab it, drink it, and you're good to go. And the taste, this is so important. Unlike a lot of other shakes, I know you've tried some. Huell actually tastes great. And my favorite, it's personally the chocolate. Coy, I can't believe you took my last one. The chocolate, it's smooth, rich, and low in sugar. I'm really particular about that too. So if you've been looking for a way to make eating healthier yet easier this year, Huel it is. It's Huell. It's horrible, too, less than five bucks a bottle. Here's what you can do. You can go to Huel.com and use code rejects for
Starting point is 00:17:07 15% off your first order, plus a free gift. That's huel.com code rejects. Supporting them, does support the channel, but also supports your sexy bod. So starts your off strong with Huel. It's quick, it's nutritious, and it actually tastes great. You'll want it in your routine.
Starting point is 00:17:22 John Jorow. Friends, you ever finish a workout? Feel amazing for a bit and suddenly hit that wall? Or maybe you're just dragging throughout the day, no matter how much water you drink. That's where today's sponsor comes in. A sponsor whose product I buy on the reg, and that is Liquid IV.
Starting point is 00:17:38 I'm always excited to partner up with the brand whose product I already used. It's great about Liquid IV as other stuff isn't just about hydration. It's about feeling better all around. Physically, it helps replenish electrolytes faster than water alone, so that way you recover quicker.
Starting point is 00:17:52 That's very important, even if you exercise just a few times a week. Mentally, it helps you stay sharp and focused instead of sluggish. And emotionally, feeling good, starts with taking care of yourself, your temple, whatever you want to call this machinery that we use every day.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Staying hydrated is a simple way to do that. I used to try the gallon of water a day thing, and sometimes you just can't hit that whole gallon and then fill with a big blow to belly. Anyway, here's why it works. One stick in 16 ounces of water hydrates better than water alone. Thanks to their LIV hydroscience formula, it's got three times the electrolytes of sports drinks.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Packed with essential vitamins like B12, vitamin C, so it's not just hydration, it's energy and recovery in one. And the flavors, especially their sugar-free raspberry lemonade, I'm off five of our rent. It's refreshing zero sugar and feels like a treat. Whenever I take Liquid IV after a workout, I feel like it has made a big difference, especially during busy days.
Starting point is 00:18:45 So if you want to feel better and hydrate smarter, healthcare, go to Liquidiv.com and use code rejects to get 20% off your first order. Once again, that's Liquidiv.com. Use code rejects to get 20% off your first order. Quite a way to support the channel is go check them out. But more importantly, it's supporting your health. Give it a try. I feel a difference, and I hope you will too.
Starting point is 00:19:04 The only thing that I saw in her change was just she got the tattoos. I'm not quite sure what she learned along the way and what changed her. But in Moana one, she learned a lot and she changed. And we all were with her. We were like, yeah, Moana. I'm still with her now. Still loved it. Had a great time.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Love the songs more on the first one. I would listen to that album. This one, yeah, I still, still a lot of fun. I get why Moana 2's cool. well it's like it's weird the part that i'm also conflicted about is if they made moana three following up with what this mid credit scene sets up i'm like that plot sounds more interesting to me than the movie we saw because you have a villain who really wants to essentially end moana yeah and he does seem like dangerous yeah he does seem like he could be scary there's
Starting point is 00:19:56 this collective of people they're like the he like maybe what moana did might actually be worse in the end because, like, a lot of people could probably die now because they're all gathered together and he wants his revenge. So I think, like, the setup of what they did for a possible Moana 3 is actually pretty cool. It's pretty strong. So I'd so be down for a Moana 3. I just think these other quality, just kind of feel like we watched the movie to set up a sequel. Yeah, that's what I was just going to say. I was like, oh, they needed this to get us to that other thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I don't know about a moana three happening and uh i believe limanwell miranda was not involved in this once and oh okay weirdly it's like liman well brandon did mufasa i hated that movie i really didn't like that movie
Starting point is 00:20:41 at all um and i didn't care for the songs in that one so but i guess he like didn't do moana too to do that one but i feel like i wish you just stuck with this one limo brown but whatever why you're something new it's his life and career not my yeah yeah um it's not your choice to say what late man with marana does lima well miranda does yeah redoing a little man well brand an impression
Starting point is 00:21:03 because it sounded like him yeah I was doing you know sure I was doing a rapid dude and I'm gonna get and we're here doing the YouTube
Starting point is 00:21:16 he's got an interesting boys doesn't yeah I can't do it he's going through that he's going through puberty is what he's doing you did good name is Alexander Hamilton
Starting point is 00:21:26 that's because he listens to I'm a little big man I just imagine like a little short guy Wow A little tiny guy walking a room full of big people Yeah And then he kills it
Starting point is 00:21:45 He kills it He never see him coming Anyway I love it All right God What did you guys think about Mwana too Yeah I mean it's the film was a some film was a huge box office hit i mean a billion dollars totally clearly people still
Starting point is 00:22:02 like gravitate towards this film and love it these are just our thoughts what are yours would you guys think leave your thoughts down below only focus on the things you didn't agree with us about creates engagement we'll talk with you guys soon brian harry I don't know, everybody deserves like a hand sometime, you know? Can you imagine me welcome onto a stage and not getting a clap? Is it worse to get no claps or only one person clapping in a full room? I would say, I don't know, pity kind of stings a little more, you know? Because then they're laughing at you.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Well, yeah, the crowd is like embarrassed for you. awkwardness like amplifies when you can tell like oh no it's worst I guess when it's like only a few people are clapped because if it's one person it's like damn one person absolutely supports you if it's like 15 people in a room full of like 150 people you're like oh no most this is just a sign most people aren't about this or we we consider it polite to clap is that strange like imagine you're watching a talk show and they're and they're like please welcome Jason Bateman No, no I'm saying Imagine No one claps He just walks out Hey, now you're doing
Starting point is 00:23:33 A crowd full of people It's just awkward Yeah, yeah yeah We're kind of Especially if you took out the music too And he's just walking to the sofa And whoever's the host Just waiting for
Starting point is 00:23:46 Everyone in the car is Cool What are they going to talk about? But also feeling a crowd too when like because there are some things that we said at the screen crush show that got claps but it wasn't like an incident everyone just yeah yeah like a few and then others are like you kind of feel like a collective crowd going yeah I guess we'll clap yeah sure yeah and it's different to when you're like in in a situation where it's not like an
Starting point is 00:24:19 applause break or the end of something when it's like oh we're having an active conversation but also some people are like really about this one idea but also you know and then in that room it was like hard to kind of hear both levels so then you're like should i hold for applause or just keep going you're like what do i do but brian perry it's always clapping brian perry's a clapper he's got the clap is what they say about brian perry man it's not lame to clap it's just lame to get the it's uh bry that's his shirt he wears Brian Perry i bet is one of those people at can every year who's like 15 minutes I'm out here like that it's going to be a competition soon soon it's going to be like that that stupid slap sport exists although I haven't seen it just sounds
Starting point is 00:25:05 stupid in me but maybe it's not stupid I don't know I'm talking to my ass right but but soon there's going to be a clap competition show where people are just clapping and like how long can you clap for yeah who's got the Guinness record for longest time clapping yeah it's going to be It's going to be Brian Perry. At Cannes in the middle of a conversation. Yeah. And he's the only one. What is he the last thing I'll say?
Starting point is 00:25:32 Because they always say that. Well, 10 minute ovation, 15 minute ovation. I'm like, is this literally like nothing's happening? The movie's over and just people are there just clap. Have you ever tried to clap for five straight minutes? That's my point. It's going to be a competition. Your hands must hurt.
Starting point is 00:25:47 I don't even feel like I'd want to be on the receiving end of that. I feel like you get like.
