So whether you're sharing the streaming password in the family chat or trading those late-night voice messages that could basically become a podcast, your personal messages stay between you, your friends, and your family. No one else, not even us.
Starting point is 00:01:27 WhatsApp, message privately with everyone. Class in session, mother Fs. Who, who yes, it is. Ring the bell. Oh, my God. Okay, yeah. So they were not, neither of them, the conjoined twins was Leslie, man.
Starting point is 00:01:52 I was wrong. I was wrong. They didn't even give them credit. No, they did. Oh, they did just find it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. but I didn't recognize the names. All right.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Actor, actress. The movie she's watching. Well, gang. We did it. We did it. We beheld yet another teen movie. And wow. It's a tall order making a parody of what is essentially a bunch of a comedic genre.
Starting point is 00:02:24 But hey, what did you think? I thought that you should watch and listen to us. on Apple and Spotify. Oh, sure. And she'd also go get teas like these at rejagnation shop.com because we have so many cool ones like these and these and these and sweaters and all kind of goodies that you should go
Starting point is 00:02:39 check out. But for another teen movie, I thought it was a lot of fun. I thought it was really funny. You know, there's some, a lot of the jokes worked. There's some jokes that didn't work. All the acting was fun. I love to play on all of the teen movies that I have yet to see, but some of the ones
Starting point is 00:02:56 I have seen. And just the tropes and overall making fun of, slash homageing these classics. The Trumps are so universal that if you don't know a specific movie you'll probably still get it. Exactly, yeah. The show's universal.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Chris Evans, I never expected him to be in a movie like this, but I'm happy to see that he was, you know? That man does not age. He's still, this one was like, what, 20 years old and he still looks like virtually the same. Like, good for him. Good on his jeans and his health.
Starting point is 00:03:27 And yeah, most everyone was funny too. know, I'm surprised, this is on that 2000s age where they still had movies like this. Like the parody is very prominent in the 90s and the early 2000s. And for a lot of them, they kind of don't work as much anymore because they're really kind of popularize on the time and capitalize on the things that are relevant. But a lot of these themes. There are a lot of wretched parodies. There really are. Truly wretched parodies.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Shout out to epic movie. But there's a lot of them. Oh my God. Friedberg and Seltzer Boy. those two of the six writers of scary movie are the perpetrators of some of the worst disaster movie the worst attempts at this type of cinema
Starting point is 00:04:08 superhero movie there's a lot of them superhero movie is actually I don't know if it's Zucker Abrams Zucker but it's like the Zucker brothers at least from airplane which is why superhero movie actually has jokes okay because you watch vaguely remember that one I don't even know if I've seen it all the way but yeah just the fact that this is
Starting point is 00:04:26 one of the movie in a plethora of parody movies i think this one uh kind of stands as one of the ones in the top you know i don't think it's as good as like an airplane or a scary movie but i do enjoy it for what it's trying to do and yeah it was fun i had a good time with it john what do you think yeah i agree this is again it's there's a lot to work with but you are parodying largely a base of comedy and romance adjacent movies so like yeah like that can always kind of go awry but i thought this was really fun and yeah like certainly it's raunchy certainly it's silly but of course that's what we're here for and i think yeah as an amalgamation of recognizable movie moments or at least like a lot of the
Starting point is 00:05:11 specific movie things or things you could even pick up from a trailer and this was great because i got a list of like oh i should see that i should see i should see i should see 10 things ahead about you i should see uh american beauty maybe uh you know things like that and uh yeah i thought the cast was all really well up to it and this managed to hit the right frequency where it's like it's madcap and it's kooky and it's silly and you know it's throwing all
Starting point is 00:05:35 of the possible jokes at the wall like it's taking that airplane approach of like we're going to put psychags in the background and like silly signage up and we're going to have like you know things going on in the background of the audio and then we're going to have you know slapstick jokes and then we're going to have like a meta recreation of some specific scene
Starting point is 00:05:51 you remember and there's just so much happening uh yeah you know you'll have certain things that are just random and within the silly fantasy of the movie but it was cohesive enough to actually function reasonably well as a silly high school
Starting point is 00:06:07 coming of age romance comedy like it's it doesn't have the same level maybe of heart that like an American pie won oh suns burn my cornea I can no longer see oh no I'm not kidding somebody please
Starting point is 00:06:23 help me What a weird gag. Quick, grab a guitar. What a weird gag. What a... Okay. There's a lot of weird gags. A little weird gags.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Post-credit scene. I'm like, okay. But yeah, like, everything was apropos of the kind of movies that they're trying to do. And I thought that this was at least conceived with a good amount of that. Again, it's not as good as an airplane or a scary movie. But it's certainly not that bad. Like, honestly, I thought this was pretty good for what it is. You know, it's like they bothered to write actual jokes.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Clearly, they know the genre. And they, yeah, made it enough of an actual movie to not be... Again, you look at a lot of those, especially Friedberg-Seltzer parodies from, yeah, the, you know, 2000s and early 2010s. And so many of those rely on, like, almost no plot. And then a bunch of people going, look, thing you recognize. Or look, we recreated, like, the circumstances. of this scene and that's the joke you know like so i appreciate that something like this has actual character comedy at work it has some actual joke writing at work it has the things that
Starting point is 00:07:36 rely on you being familiar with certain movie references at work but it also yeah is cobbled together of a bunch of i think the reason this works uh again parody of a comedy works is because like there are so many recognizable tropes to these kinds of movies that have endured since the 80s at least. So, yeah, like, while, you know, certainly there are things that are, that in this day and age you might consider offensive, like, yeah, that's part of the point, and they're obviously throwing kind of the most extreme and absurd versions of everything, case and point, when the white cheerleaders do the Clover's cheerleading routine, and that culminates, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:18 you're like, okay, like, that's kind of a risky joke, but in context of the silly satire they're going for makes sense you know yeah and it's it's interesting watching something like this in early 2000s and how comedies changed because we've watched a few comedies in this channel both me and you with Andrew and other people
Starting point is 00:08:39 and then obviously with each other and like something like the Blues Brothers and Airplane stand up close to the top for me and yeah like this is like an air of the early 2000s kind of mean-spirited comedy parody sort of thing and I just I like the I think as a film I enjoy watching it
Starting point is 00:08:57 because it's you know it's it's trying to poke fun well homageing all of these different different movies granted a lot of them some of them I have seen some of them I haven't and kind of similar to what John said I want to watch some of those films as well but it's also interesting watching how comedy has changed over the years
Starting point is 00:09:14 because it's like 20 over 20 years old now and yeah I feel like a lot of comedy is either absurdist or it's like now based on like a lot more more riffing and like more improv than it is. is. Way more banter based. Way more banter based. Yeah. And it says it's interesting watching movie like this and kind of observing like the time capsule of like what the peak or the prime example of what a comedy
Starting point is 00:09:36 was in the 2000. And I feel like movies like this and like some of the other parody movies kind of exemplify that the most. And yeah, I think it's it was a fun watch. I'll say that. Reject Nation, I'm interrupting this video just for a little bit to say as we kick off the new year. One thing that hasn't changed is how overwhelming and divisive. the news can feel. That's why I'm once again excited to partner with Straight Arrow News. A source I trust to deliver fact-based, unbiased reporting. Whether you lean left, right, or somewhere in the middle, it's all too easy to get caught in a bubble. That's just the reality. Algorithms often push us into tribal thinking, only showing what they think aligns with our views.
Starting point is 00:10:13 And at the end of the day, what we really need is honesty. And that's why I love SAM because they break the cycle. By presenting all sides of the story, helping you form your own opinion. One of their best features is the media mist tool. It highlights stories, being ignored by both the left and right wing outlets giving you the full picture instead of just fragments plus s a m was awarded to certify balanced status by all sides meaning their journalism meets the highest standards of unbiased report that is also why s an has been the go-to fact checker for heated debates on jubilee's youtube channel they've built trust by staying grounded in the truth no matter the topic so if you want to start the near off informed and balanced check out straight arrow news you can go to san.com slash real rejects to learn more you can also download the app as well
Starting point is 00:10:52 Using the link in the description box of this video and pin comment. And yes, supporting S-A-N does support real rejects, but it doesn't just support real rejects. It backs a group of journalists raising the bar and delivering the truth. That level of integrity is just super important, so thank you again, straight-aira-news for partnering up with us. Proud to. Yeah, and it's like unencumbered by,
Starting point is 00:11:10 I feel like a lot of the other teen comedies this is referencing are not held down, but they're tempered by a certain need to bring in some semblance of genuine hearts, some semblance of grounding to a degree, like, again, thinking because American Pie is so fresh in our memory, you know, that obviously is a series that is prone to getting broad with its comedy, but it also needs to kind of come back to Earth and, you know, have a bit of sincerity. And so this, while not, you know, completely insincere in certain aspects, is basically removing those sort of bumpers to the lane and just being like, comedy is the number.
Starting point is 00:11:51 number one priority here. So like do all this stuff, but you don't need to convince us of a certain amount of heart or anything else. You just kind of got to make this, yeah, laundry list of all the different tropes and beats, throw in a Mr. T for fun to kind of twist another familiar reference. And yeah, like as far as parody movies go, I thought this was pretty good. Like this, this left me feeling relatively positive. It's aged decently minus. I mean, not minus. Well, It's aged decently in that, like, all these jokes are still relevant to what kind of movie this is trying to bear. I can agree with that. You know, like, and they still make this, you know, no hard feelings came out recently.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Like, they still make movies in this vein to some extent that, you know, are predicated on these tropes. So, like, yes, while certain things are not as appropriate now as they were in 2001, I still think this movie, in terms of, like, a lot of other parody movies, do not age, age like milk, because they're all going, oh, look, it's Paris Hilton. Oh, look, seen from one very specific movie. And though they get dated, like, they're fun at the time. Like, they almost are completely geared toward the moment, the immediate moment. You go to the theater, you watch date movie, and you're like, oh, yeah, wedding
Starting point is 00:13:13 crashes. Oh, yeah, this. Oh, yeah, this. And they don't really hold anything after that point, whereas this, you know, is, yeah, borrowing from specific movies but also just doing the genre you know and I think yeah as far as parody movies go
Starting point is 00:13:27 this is one of the better ones this is a pretty solid one it's a pretty good one yeah I can agree I have a fun time with it let's see let's see if there's maybe a little bit of interesting trivia here but you know we got we got all the major tropes and things we got a good
Starting point is 00:13:43 Charlotte cameo we got our run to the airport all we were missing was Jim's dad we were let's see not another team movie what are we got oh what's up google what are you doing what are you doing google what are being playful being heard of us all right we're just going to search i am critics did not like this one oh i bet not i mean you know it's it's it's it's crude and crass and it's you know low-hanging fruit in a lot of respects you know there's it's not yeah i could absolutely see why this wouldn't get good reviews but
Starting point is 00:14:23 again for for what kind of movie it is and for what the genre is it's not too bad uh feature film debut trivia of chris evis that's fun that's great and i miss i mean seeing him do this kind of comedy i mean you get some of that in uh some recent movies uh especially now that he's not playing captain america as much But he's got a real knack for that, I feel like, and especially in, like, I would love to see him do more absurdity like this, because he was really fun to watch and well cast, obviously, this can't have hurt his rise to further stardom. No. The studio wasn't happy with the original ending of the film, prompting the makers to film of the film to seek Molly Ringwald's help. And damn, I feel like, I'm surprised, because that's one that could have easily gone either way.
Starting point is 00:15:14 I can easily see how she would be like, nah, I'm good, don't want to do your raunchy comedy. Even though, yeah, she is like a staple of the fabric of the movies that spawned what this is reacting to in the first place. And I really liked her inclusion there. Also, it's going to, since it's driving me nuts, what is that guy's name? It was, what, Jud Nelson as Bender? There you go.
Starting point is 00:15:40 That's who the kid was dressed like. Judd Nelson. It was driving me nuts. The filmmakers couldn't get the rights to use the footage from She's All That, 99. So they shot the scene with two different people on the library set and made the TV blurry so you couldn't tell. That's fun. I don't think I've seen She's All That either. I think we said that during the reactions at the Freddie Prince.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Yeah, Freddy Prince Jr. movie. That's, I remember that poster, though. That's the only thing I've seen of it is the poster. Damn. Should we watch it? I would love to. I would love to. Visual pun when Ariola is singing, Topless of course.
Starting point is 00:16:14 during prom night. The animated birds that appear outside her window are blue tits. A tit is a kind of bird. Did not know that. Yeah, bush tits.
Starting point is 00:16:24 There are many kinds of tits, actually. Wow. So YouTube, this is an avian conversation. Yes. When we're talking about tits, we mean the animal, the bird. Talking about birds.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Nothing else. In Spain and Greece, the movie was released under the title. This is not another dumb American movie. Excellent. Awesome. Eric Christian Olson's character, Austin, is a combination of Lance Harbor and
Starting point is 00:16:48 Varsity Blues and Dean Sampson and she's all that. Two movies I ain't seen. Both those characters were portrayed by Paul Walker. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah, I figured his look had to be referential. Kyler Lee has admitted to being under the influence of cocaine throughout the majority of this movie.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Wow. Oh. Wowy. Holy sheesh. That is crazy. Well, well done. That was not expecting that. Oh, she's in Supergirl.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Oh, I recognize her now. There you go. Chris Evans had that actually, that fact kind of blows my mind a little bit. I would love to hear that interview. Chris Evans had troubleshooting his scenes with Mia Kushner, particularly having to reject her pleas for love as she was grinding on him, as he was apparently very turned on.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Oh, no, I bet. First movie, too. Nathan West proposed to Kyler Lee on set while filming. She's all that. Nathan West, who do we got? Is he a heart throb of old? I don't recognize that guy. Oh, is he the guy
Starting point is 00:17:54 on screen? He's the guy credited as actor? That's funny. He's in the she's all that. Parity. Buildings in the movie are named for the makers of the movies that are being parodied. John Hughes High School. Anthony Michael Dining Hall. The Harry Dean Stadium.
Starting point is 00:18:10 I did not catch that. The original title was simply teen movie, but this was ditched as the movie got more and more unteen. The title was changed to not a teen movie because of this. Then it was changed to not another teen movie because of all the parodies and the fact that there were so many teen movies before it. During the football game near the end, a bunch of players run out of bounds and crash into the table. The name of one of the player's shirts is extras. He didn't catch that. And this is, like, I do appreciate that they take time for those kinds of sight gags and things
Starting point is 00:18:42 that like you might miss on a first glance or whatever yeah um during the prom scene the cast actually sings no additional backup voices were added and chris evans also saying the janey's got a gun bit uh good charlotte is the house band at the prom uh yeah man not bad not bad in russia the film is titled not a children's movie uh and yeah all the food and the table at the end has holes in it as an amage to American pie. And then, yeah, okay, so Lacey Shabar's character is a parody of the character played by Jennifer Love Hewitt
Starting point is 00:19:16 and Kent Harley-Waid, who Jennifer Love was a staple of, you know, the teen heartthrob era, certainly of the 90s, 2000s, et cetera. And they started party, five together. And apparently also the cast stars in the Marilyn Manson version of Tainted Love in the music videos.
Starting point is 00:19:32 So there you go. Yang. They're Raleigh-Ringfall. Molly Ringwald The fact is interesting Wally Ringwald would not do another film for 14 years until Jamming the Holograms in
Starting point is 00:19:45 2015, which is another teen movie. And then she appeared on Riverdale. You know, she's Archie's mom, I think. She comes in at some point. And then, oh yeah, there was the Spicoli's store. That's fun. There was an alternate ending where, oh, where Jake wins
Starting point is 00:20:04 Janie over by saying, you complete me. Then Janie responds with Jake. you had me at janey thank god i got to you in time listen i'm not going to let you get on that plane to this is a spoof of the famous scene in jerry mcguire uh cony mcgainz appears in this movie as well as in bring it on which spoof this movie that's right i thought i recognized him he's he's he's the little brother to kirsten dunst in bring it on i knew i should have caught that too um and i was going to say the guy who played reggie ray i haven't seen varsity blues but apparently he also played billy bob in varsity blues
Starting point is 00:20:37 and in both movies he has a pet pig in varsity blues to make his name bacon here his name's sausage wow Sabrina the teenage which stars
Starting point is 00:20:47 Melissa Joan Hart and Nick Bacay make uncredited appearances in the movie Hart who played Sabrina as the girl instructing this low clap guy
Starting point is 00:20:53 and Bacay who played the cat Salem as the diner cook who claims to have altered the boys French toast
Starting point is 00:21:01 right before the prom God dang there's so many yeah specific movie parodies and references we've got a couple spoilers we can cap office of spoilers in the scene at the prom where Jake is dancing
Starting point is 00:21:13 with the conjoined twin queens there is an extra in the crowd made up to look exactly like Marty McFly from back to the future I didn't see that one. I didn't catch it I didn't clock it oh guy go back and look and while the wise janitor Mr. T is giving his speech to Jake Wiler Chris Evans the A-Team theme song
Starting point is 00:21:29 is playing in the background Mr. T portrayed Sergeant Bosco, Albert B.A. Baragas. Did catch that. On the A. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We cut some A team. We like some A team around here. I'm with one half of the A team as we speak. Well, Aron. Tonight. Any other thoughts to leave the people with? Class is out of session, guys. It's been a good time.
Starting point is 00:21:51 That's right. Don't forget to turn in your algebra homework. And we'll catch you for yet another teen movie soon enough. Sooner than you think. So, yeah, be well. And we'll see you in detention. Thank you.
