I can really just say Reese's and you'll go get some. Okay. Rees. Reeses. Rees. Really working, actually. Reeses. Rees. This, I'm on to something. Reeses. Rees. Rees. This week's video is sponsored by Rocket Money, a personal finance app that I've been using for about a year and a half now before we ever partnered up with them after the reaction. I'll tell you why I love them so much and what they are. On to the video, Reject Nation.
Starting point is 00:01:30 before we get into Pacific Rim. Greg asked me if I had seen Pacific Rim and I said, yeah, the World War II movie. So that's how he knew I hadn't seen it. Okay. I thought this was about the Pacific Front. Ah, now I see. That went way over my head, as many things usually do.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Pacific Rim, commence. God, I was so close to saying, is he really gone though? He said. Is he dead? Oh, did I? Something like that. But even him, like, he's just a slimy, you know, guy who profits off the destruction of others. And I know that's not a character like I can identify or resonate with, not at all.
Starting point is 00:02:14 But I just, I love Ron Perlman. It's just, he's funny as hell. I love this performance. I don't like his character, but I like this performance. He was fine. And his interactions with Charlie Day were hysterical as hell. You know, with all the destruction and mayhem and the emotional depth we got, I thought there was a good balance. I thought Guillermo de Toro and Travis Beecham did a good job balancing out the humor as well.
Starting point is 00:02:35 You know, that's a very difficult thing to do as screenwriters is balance out humor with the action and the emotional stuff. What did you find to be humorous? Just like the interactions, for instance, with like Ron Perlman and Charlie Day, they didn't go over the top with it. But just like, you know, they used it sparingly. A little levity in there. Yeah, yeah, exactly. It was levity away from like the action and the tension and all that. And I just thought it was used, again, it was balanced out.
Starting point is 00:02:58 They didn't go over the top and do it too. much so because then it would have been like okay this is just a joke as much as I love humor it's like you know like I said it would have been a joke fest but uh big monster movies usually I don't care about the people at all right so it's cool to care about the people it just made all the stakes much higher for sure and also I just the way that it looked was so impressive absolutely I love yeah and I love that they were I mean the care first of all the the Yeagers though they look so cool obviously Gypsy Danger was my personal favorite, but they all looked sick. I also loved all the creature
Starting point is 00:03:33 designs of the Kaiju. Those were all sick. Did you have a particular kaiju that you thought that stood out to you? I mean, I do think that the level five was wild to see. I mean, just in like size. Yeah. That was crazy. I like the shark one. The shark was sick too. That was that one, I don't know. I want to look up the dad that I was just like, I know I know him. I got to figure out where I knew him from. I want to look. I I want you to see, too, if that one actor was in Blade, too. He was the vampire that Blade takes out at the very end. Well, let me just focus on this one.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah, yeah, after you do that. Max Martini, yeah, I know his name too, so I knew it. Okay, let's see. Oh, the dad of the jerk who has a nice arc, and even him, too. He had a nice arc, too, and again. Oh, he was in the Purge TV show, which I didn't watch. Okay, but that's cool. He was in 10 episodes of that.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Perch, Perch, Perch, Perch. Yep, you get it. 50 Shades Freed. Was that a 50 Shades? gray spinoff. Fifty shades darker. Okay, so he was in all of those. But I'm telling you, there's some TV show.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Oh, and he was in 50 Shades of Gray also. Never saw them. What was the TV show? You keep telling me, and then I'll find this. I was just going to say like... It was revenge. I was right. Oh, you called it.
Starting point is 00:04:45 You called it. Nice job. Yay, yay. Never argue with Roxy. First of all, when she's giving a... Don't argue with her in general. I'm not fun to fight with. No, it's just, you're usually right.
Starting point is 00:04:57 But when it comes to predictions, and when it comes to TV, do not argue with her. But you know what's hard about watching so much TV is all the time that will happen to me. I'm like, I know that actor, I know he's in a TV show I love, I can't even place it. Right, because you've just seen, you've consumed so much television at this point. I was just going to say, in regards to the characters as well, because we talked about Idriselbo, he was probably my favorite character, although I did love Mako a lot as well. I like that they were, yeah, I like that they didn't, you know, go too much exposition-wise
Starting point is 00:05:28 into her backstory with what happened we didn't even really see her family although it was obviously implied that the kaiju wasn't implied we know that the kaiju took out her family yeah she's like walking in the other direction obviously we know the kaiju took out her family but we didn't even see them didn't have to but
Starting point is 00:05:42 you know I like that they didn't focus way too heavily on that I think that little actress or the young actress who played Little Mako was so so damn convinced I'm curious about her but I want to see the person that you're talking about that you asked me about but I don't know who yeah I was just going to say
Starting point is 00:05:58 that that character, because, like, I mean, we both obviously thought he was a complete jerk. I understand his apprehension to having Raleigh and even Mako, especially when they came on the docking bay and she couldn't control her emotions. I understand his apprehension to, like, not trust them. I don't know if you had to be a dick about it. I guess that's just the rule in screenwriting. We got to make someone a dick so that you can appreciate them when they have their arc later. But I did like his arc that, you know, once they did save them, he's like, okay, I can learned to appreciate in teamwork and camaraderie and that's i think that was the biggest theme of this movie is teamwork and it wasn't just the people inside the yagers it was like everyone like from the
Starting point is 00:06:37 command crew and all the people in the docking bay like it was all like they were all one you know what i mean and i appreciate that about this film as well the teamwork and camaraderie uh oh so that guy was in blade too the okay i was right so uh the guy that works for ron perlman yes yes the guy who worked for Ron Perlman and yelled out in horror as the baby was being born, the baby Kaiju. He was the in Blade 2, the vampire that Blade says, wait, you didn't think I forgot about you, did you? And the guy that I thought was a very famous guy. Yeah. That you thought was Louis Anderson? Yeah, he still looks like Louie Anderson to me. He's a Larry, so we'll just call Larry Joe Campbell. Okay. And he's the best man in wedding crashers and a hall pass. I love wedding. I love
Starting point is 00:07:24 wedding crashes. I see one in a million things. Okay. I love wedding crashes. Come on. He gives Louis Anderson life. Okay. But at first I said Anthony Anderson, which is a wild left turn from either of these. Okay. Sure, sure. Anyway. But yeah, in general. Do you know any trivia
Starting point is 00:07:40 too? I can give that. Oh, yeah. No, we can get into the trivia. But yeah, just like I said, the visuals in this film, I'm very curious what the budget was. Because like I said, Guillermo del Toro knows how to stretch a budget, even if it's a little on the lower. But what, regardless of whatever it was. He made every shot count meticulous and awesome ways. So regardless of it was a high or lower budget.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Hit me with what you think it was. That response how you just made it sounds like, I'm going to go, I know the logical response is to say 150 or 200. I'm going to go with how you just said that. I'm going to go 75 million. We know that I guessed 250 early on, which was, wait. I feel like I'm going to be wrong right now. 75. 180. Damn it. And you said 250?
Starting point is 00:08:26 I think so, but I forgot that this is 2013, so 250 would have been insane for that. Yeah, I still think it's insane right now. No, it is, but it happens all the time. Right, right. Oh, there's another Pacific Room? Ah. Oh, the Clint Eastwood kit, Scott Eastwood. Oh, that's Scott Eastwood.
Starting point is 00:08:42 That's what it looks like to me, at least. And John Boyega? Yeah, and there's John Boyer. Who's the one on the right? I do not know. Uprising, huh? We'll look that up after we do the trivia. you. But yeah, like I said, the visuals in this, the direction, the screenwriting,
Starting point is 00:08:57 there were a couple cheesy lines, but again, Guillermo del Choro and the actors he always has, they find a way to deliver them with reverence in a way that's like, I don't give a damn, that was cheesy, it was done in a way that I appreciated. Like, the line where Ron Perlman said, you're goddamn more. Yeah. I love that line. There was some really good one-liners in this. Like, some of those lines just really stick out. And I love, yeah, and I also, too, I love that at the beginning of the film. They didn't, like, really stick on the big fights because, you know, like, hey, we're going to get to the action. Don't worry.
Starting point is 00:09:29 We want to get you emotionally invested and want you to get to know these characters first. So I appreciate that they just held off a little bit on those fights. And then we got to stick more to the teamwork and the camaraderie, which I appreciated a lot more. And also, too, I like the world building, like, how it works when you're in the Yeagers. Like, no, it's not just about physicality. You have to, like, nearly link with each other mentally. And I thought that was all, like, really. fascinating and cool like yeah different than most movies yeah that you can see in uh in each other's
Starting point is 00:09:58 minds i thought we're gonna do more with that to be honest so like because i feel you i feel you i feel you saw with maco like then we never went back to that and which is totally okay but like they made such a big deal of that she could not got not go down the rabbit hole and then she has no problem not doing that ever again and it's kind of like huh i am i'd still love this movie but that is one criticism. I'm going to agree with Roxy on that was never kind of addressed. Maybe there are some deleted scenes we don't know about and maybe the talk that they had after that scene or maybe it's like the situation so dire.
Starting point is 00:10:35 She was just able to just get through it. But it did feel like, wait, oh, she's just able to get through it now at this point. I wanted him to like kind of go in there and talk her through it. Yeah. Or even maybe too, Roxy, like she's still having a little bit of an issue during the battle. And then like, again, he gives her some kind of. kind of or you pep something and then it's like okay no she's able to battle through it yeah it wasn't like wow this ruined the movie for me because it definitely didn't it but i wouldn't say that it could have enhanced it a little bit yeah no it just it didn't feel like kind of again we're not saying the movie's actually grounded in reality but the situation itself being a human being getting through the mental fortitude to get through that situation after what we had seen before that didn't feel totally grounded of that situation i totally agree with you there let's go to some trivia here let's hear it okay approximately a hundred kaijjjj and a hundred Yeagers were designed,
Starting point is 00:11:25 but only a fraction of them appeared in the film. Every week, the filmmakers held to vote for their favorites. Wow. I want to see the ones that didn't make it. Oh, that's cool. A hundred of both. That's crazy. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Okay, let's see. At around an hour and 25 minutes, the inside of the building that Gypsy's fist smashes through was created using miniatures. Many of the components of the office cubicles were made using 3D printers. Wow. The lighting was practical and done to scale. Once the set was ready, a large green mandrel was ramped through it.
Starting point is 00:12:00 This was digitally replaced with Gypsy's Fist. Whoa. That's cool. That's a cool fact. Damn, they made it using 3D printers. That's wild. According to Traffus B. Chim, in an earlier version of the script, Mako and Raleigh spoke two different languages for the majority of the film,
Starting point is 00:12:18 Oh, Wild. After connecting as pilots, they slowly began to understand one another, and before the end, they heard each other speaking in their own respective languages. The only remnant of a language barrier is when Raleigh speaks to Mako in Japanese, and she's surprised he knows her home language. I don't know. That sounds fascinating. I would have been okay with that.
Starting point is 00:12:40 I think it's one of those things that in concept sounds really cool, but in actuality, there's so much going on that it is like we want to see them communicate more than. maybe true yeah i understand why they abandoned that idea i would have been fascinated to see if they with that yeah that would have been cool too though Travis beach and the screenwriter got the idea for the movie while walking along the california coastline on a foggy morning the shape of the pier looked like a creature rising from the water and he imagined a large robot waiting on the shore to battle it what a fascinating way to come up with the idea for this film that's cool and also too sorry not to cut you off but like uh i assume you've seen the terminator right
Starting point is 00:13:18 Yeah, but you know what? I don't really remember it called. It came up the other day and I was like, I have zero recollection of this movie. I'm not even going to get into the story, but just really quick story. Like the way James Cameron came up with the story, I think he was in Paris or France. You guys can correct me if I'm wrong. He was having like a fever pitch dream and out came into the fire and his dream was The Terminator. And that's how he came up with the idea.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Ron Perlman, this is really fun for me. You know, you found that so fascinating. No, I think it is fascinating. I think it is fascinating. I just wanted to talk about Pacific Rim. Like, what does that have to do with Pacific Rim? No, I hear you a lot of creative. We can keep talking about it, a lot of creative.
Starting point is 00:13:57 No, no, no, I'm messing with you. Can continue. I apologize. This isn't going to be interesting to you, so this is kind of payback, but it is interesting to me and maybe to some of you guys out there. Ron Broman kept the shoes he wore on this film.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Later on, his wife had them melted down and converted into a pair of heels for herself. See, you say this is not interesting, but I'm going to surprise you, Roxie. I find that very fast. and interesting to me. I think that's really cool. Okay. But I want to know what Ron Perlman thought of that. That his wife did that. Reject Nation, when I heard that this company wanted to partner up with us yet again, I was so enthusiastic about it. Reason being, I had already been using their
Starting point is 00:14:37 product for well over a year by the point we first ever collaborated with them. So the fact that we get to have this ongoing partnership just makes me a happy camper. And that is, of course, for the app, Rocket Money. Now, if you guys don't know what Rocket Money is, don't worry, I got you covered. I'll tell you about them in just a little bit. But before that, I wanted to share with you guys why I love this app so much. It's actually a very personal reason. You see, like many of you guys, I too grew up in a home where money did not come easily, needless to say. The predominant conversation in my family household was undoubtedly about financial struggle, financial worry. And that does a number on you. So it certainly seeped.
Starting point is 00:15:16 into my adulthood when I was trying to learn how to become financially independent. And to this day, as someone who talks a lot about working as mental health, who's proudly going to therapy, no matter how much lack we might have in money one day or how much success we might have in money sometimes, I still have to have this ongoing conversation about my relationship with money. I'm half Filipinos. My mom's always talking to me about taxes to this day. I think, though, it does start with how you manage the finances you currently have. See, before I ever acquired any of reasonable living money. I heard someone speak about how you have to learn what to do with a dollar now. Essentially, the talk was about don't wait until you have like a bunch of money
Starting point is 00:15:55 and then start figuring out what to do with it afterwards. Like you got a bunch of toys to play with. If you want to acquire more in life, you have to first figure out what you're going to do with what you currently have. And that's why I love this app. It's applicable for any financial stage you are at in life. Come to think about it, it would have been very beneficial for me when I was in a real struggle boat years ago. So in summary, as someone who is constantly having an ongoing working relationship with how to handle money, rocket money has helped make that relationship a lot healthier in my life. So what are they if you don't know what they are?
Starting point is 00:16:25 What they are is a personal finance app that simplifies managing money by canceling unnecessary subscriptions, lowering your bills, and crafting a budget that fits your specific lifestyle. I'm telling you, Reject Nation, there's no greater feeling than when you look at the following month and you see that, oh my God, I have saved money. I've spent less. And progress equals happiness. The best part is rocket money does a lot of the heavy lifting by analyzing your spending, then customizes notifications to stay within your budget goals. It's not just about saving money. It's about actively seeing and feeling your financial progress. And one of my favorite qualities about their service too is when it comes to monthly subscriptions. We've been
Starting point is 00:17:05 blessed to be able to expand the team and hire more people. But with that in mind, that also comes with a lot more expenses. So as this business has been growing, having to track exuberant amount more has been just as important. So now I have to track a lot of these business expenses, then I've got to track my own personal finances. So in general, it's already been helping out a lot with that. But as you want to make things more efficient, you often find yourself signing up for a lot of apps for free trials that you quickly forget about. Next thing you know, you're paying a hefty fine for it. I'm sure, even if you don't have a YouTube channel, there's some way you can relate with that. You see, because they track your monthly subscriptions
Starting point is 00:17:37 and they make it super easy to cancel the ones you do not use. A couple of clicks, and you're putting money back into your pocket. So if you're like me, you found hidden subscriptions or pay for services that you totally forgot about. Rocket money was a lifesaver in uncovering those and even negotiated some of my bills to about, like I'd say, down by 20%. So if you want to join me on this journey of consistently taking care of your finances, do not want to start later. The best time is to start right now. So please do yourself a favor. rocket money and see how much you too can be saving. That way you can stop wasting money on things
Starting point is 00:18:12 you don't use. Believe me, when it came with my accountant and tax season, that was a really big note. Visit rocketmoney.com slash rejects. They've helped me and I'm confident they'll do the same for you. That's rocketmoney.com slash rejects. Your wallet will thank you. Because Rocket Money has over five million users and has saved a total of $500 million and canceled subscriptions, saving members up to $740 a year when using all of the app's features. So a great way to support your lifestyle and a great way to support the channel is by going and downloading the Rocket Money app yourself. And if it does help you, please go ahead, draw me a message. I'd love to hear if there's some way by just conveying this message, it has helped you out too. Thank you, Reject Nation. Let's see, visual effects supervisor
Starting point is 00:18:54 John Knoll and director Guillermo de Toro spent several weeks discussing the physics of the giant characters and went into very specific detail such as how the air displacement from a yager moving between skyscrapers would shake the building's windows that is you could tell in this you could tell physics like just look like how it wouldn't you know appear like if two things of the monstrosity of both the kaiju and the yager's like it just again looked like there was such care and detail in every single shot and all those types of movements yeah yeah it just seemed like they really really went like for specificity on that which I found to be very cool.
Starting point is 00:19:32 It just adds to the ground you know just in a fantasy type of film like it adds to... Jokes on Greg because he told me this wasn't a World War II movie but this says Gypsy Danger is painted in detail to resemble a World War II fighter plane there's nose art on its chest.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Okay. There you go. Okay, I'll give you a couple more maybe. In March 2013, YouTube channel Dumbed Drum created a sweeted version of Pacific Rim's 2013 trailer. Less than two weeks later, Guillermo Deltoro commented on the video at WonderCon, 2013, calling it a masterpiece and saying that it inspired him to create the second
Starting point is 00:20:08 trailer for the film. He also invited the filmmakers to the Hollywood premiere when the film was released on home video, legendary pictures contacted Dumb Drum and asked for their help promoting the release. In October 2013, they released several sweeted versions of scenes from the movie. these new videos were made 15 second intervals for sharing on social media websites. It's so cool. I know Greg always talks about how we love seeing the success of fellow YouTubers, especially when they get their creations out into the world.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Again, not to get off topic, but didn't the creator, the director, rather, of Shazam, wasn't he a YouTuber as well? I have no idea. Oh, okay. I don't know, maybe. Okay. Anyway, cool. Very cool.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Yeah, awesome facts. Just to close off again, I love the performances. Idriselba liked Mako's character and even the guy was a little bit of a jerk and also I like the comedic banter and interactions as well I thought the film was well balanced
Starting point is 00:21:04 great job by Guillermo del Toro. Very cool visuals the rain, the snow the Kaiju, the Yeagers, the world building in the Yeagers as well was really cool stuff. Just a fun film.
Starting point is 00:21:16 I want to add more Guillermo del Toro films to my resume of watching reactions on here so please let us know in the comments what other films that you guys would like me, Roxy, or anyone on the team to react to that
Starting point is 00:21:30 are Guillermo del Toro films? I have not seen very many, so please let us know. Roxy, any final thoughts about Pacific Room before we get out of here? No, a good one. Okay, you heard it from Roxy, good one. Guys, thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:21:44 If you have made it this far, we appreciate you, love you guys, and we will see you on the next one. Later. Alejandra, you know, I once seen Alejandra in school we did, and if you are as good looking as her, then you are set for life. Oh, goodness, yes.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Matthew Arms. I've got two arms. Greg's got two arms. And I don't know how many arms you have, but between the two of us, the four of the three of us, we've at least got four arms. Jack Forrest. You know, I've never actually known a Jack before. Actually, I can't think of one Jack I've ever known. That's kind of crazy.
Starting point is 00:22:17 I've never known a Jack? Oh, well, now you do a little bit. Hey, Namari. or Namadi I would love to know if your name has any relation to your avatar here because you seem like some kind of cool, mysterious character and I just want more info on that. Mike Joyce is always in our live streams.
Starting point is 00:22:38 You know, I've known a lot of Michael's my whole life, but easily the worst one is the guy named Michael Tesler. Pain in my ass. Kevin Meek, listen, you sound like the most full of yourself person, but it's okay. Confidence is key, and I'm going to learn a thing or two. Hey, yo, Adrian Tims. I bet you never got in that, you son of a bitch.
Starting point is 00:22:59 God damn. Oh, Nob Deep Sidhu. Your profile pick is pretty creepy there. It looks like something out of a creepy pasta. And I'm excited to see you in my nightmares tonight. Heather Geer. I once knew what Heather had a crush on her, but she was like 19.
Starting point is 00:23:16 I was 17, so she wouldn't do anything with me. But sometimes she would do stuff that I thought. I was like, oh, are you actually like coming on? I feel like she wasn't a lot of people. thought so too but ever since then i haven't had any good relationships with any heathers you know i've never had a good relationship with the planet neptune but who i do have a great relationship is jacob neptune you really make up for the cosmic imbalances in my life buddy stay planetary cala the king i love your email here i won't say it out loud uh but i too know what it's like to want to search for
Starting point is 00:23:46 my own freedom in life but unfortunately i am restrained here to shouting out your name right now Which makes you king superior over me. Hierarchy. Way to go, you win. And Queen is a great band. Olivier Hamelin, you just, you have one of those names, man. You're like Army Hammer, who everybody wants to be compared to. You just like both of them.
Starting point is 00:24:06 You could separate them. It'd be distinct. Put them together. It's even more distinct. I want to see it on the side of a building someday. Get on that. Alan Ling. I remember this Allen that I knew.
Starting point is 00:24:15 He owned this, like, martial arts dojo. Really weird guy. He wasn't even a dojo. It was like a martial arts shop. Remember this guy? Weirdo. Weird. He's a weird dude.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Anything like you, you must be weird. Kira, you, another one. Just the one name, no nonsense, and I like that. Plus, you've got a very cool, strong, powerful, mystique, you know, shrouded moniker. And I just, yeah, I just feel so mystical in your presence. Juan Longoria, I know your name is fake, because I know what you're doing. John Longoria, Long John. Ah, no.
Starting point is 00:24:51 I see what you're doing. You pervert. You pervert. You purve you. Cliff Rodriguez. Cliff. How many people growing up may Clifford the big red dog jokes in relation to your name being Cliff? And would I have been one of them as a fan of those books?

Starting point is 00:25:20 John Rick, what's it like battling the Klingon? Your name sounds like a Star Trek dude. Do people make fun of you? Maybe not. Maybe in your actual, like, where you're from, it's not a strange name. But out here where everyone's name like Greg John, Matthew, it's really easy to get me. It's the Greg John or Matthew of where it's from. It must be Greg John or Matthew of just a fleet commander.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Absolutely. Starfleet, definitely. Most certainly. Goat Nation. That's the place I'm trying to move to. Why won't you approve my passport at least? Like, am I not in the goat nation? That's messed up.

Starting point is 00:26:56 Maybe they wouldn't have drowned if they had Marker called to. I heard him stop playing Marco Pol and I thought that he, I thought he was like playing a game, but he didn't know how this one. No. Simply Faded. Hey, simply faded. We've all been there. It's okay. You know, just get a nice, good night's rest.

It's also a great year for four-year-olds, born in the year 1990. Oh, sure it was. And I bet you were born in 94, which would have made you zero years old, meaning you are now that 2004, 2014, 2014. You're going to be 30 this year.
Starting point is 00:27:42 You're going to be 30 this year. That's insane. You're 30? Yeah. And you're a woman? What? Well, guess what? We embrace older women now.
