Just pour some Friskies, crunchy food in the bowl, and you'll hear those paws come running. Works every time. Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for MintMobil.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back. So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out that's very illegal. So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at mintmobile.com slash switch. A front payment of $45 for three-month plan equivalent to $15 per month required. New customer offer for first three months only. Speed slow after 35 gigabytes of networks busy.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Taxes and Fees Extra, Seamintmobile.com. I'm doing to my family because we're going to Burlington for the event of liquidation candidate. We're going to now to find the best of the best in articles of liquidation. From rope,
Starting point is 00:01:10 to decoration of the home and much more. With offers, over-offertas. I can't go back day to be how much I can borrow. My kids and I
Starting point is 00:01:17 expect with anxias the liquidation because it's very very hot for perverselelah. Burlington, Marks, re-bages,
Starting point is 00:01:24 wow. I'm, I'm ready for this one while also not being ready at all. Well said. Okay. Well, uh, let's be ready while not being ready. Paranormal activity two. Commence. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:01:45 I thought something is going to come for us. Yeah, I was waiting for that. Oh, boy. Oh, my God. Okay. Well, we just watched paranormal activity dose. Um, if you. are listening on Apple or Spotify, make sure you use those demon hands of yours to give us five-star
Starting point is 00:02:02 ratings after the torment we just went through. And uh, Rejignation Shop.com, you can get some cool teas like these. Look at the spooky shejacks gear we've got. Awesome. Um, you know, Tara, I got to say, I really found it fascinating that in the first five to 10 minutes or however so that they let us know this is a prequel. We're starting the movie off a couple months before. because we got to see Katie and Micah, Mika, I'm sorry if I mispronounce his name. I found that a fascinating way to take the story. And I also liked how we changed it up a bit too with now with seeing with her sister who's married, has a stepdaughter, and they have a dog.
Starting point is 00:02:40 So it kind of changes up the dynamics, you know, in terms of like it's not just a boyfriend and a girlfriend being haunted now. But also it adds to the lore of what we saw in the first film, too. like how i mean we heard her katy talk about hey when i was a kid we there was this demon thing but it expanded more into that just in in terms of talking about how the great grandmother made a deal now it comes for the firstborn the dad transferred it over to kate knowingly to katy i know it was a shitty move but it's like what i'm not defending him it's like what other choice do you have in the moment when you're scared shitless um but uh again i just i love how this film
Starting point is 00:03:19 it's hard to say like right now just coming right off the which one i like I think they're both scary as shit. I'll just say that. They're both freaky. But I just, again, I just love how this film really advanced the lore and found new and inventive ways to scare the shit out of us, I would say. Yeah. Yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 00:03:36 I like this one a lot. I mean, we had a lot more characters to play with. I think because we sort of knew what to expect slightly in seeing the first one. They're still using the same tropes in this one, but it still delivers about the same. Meaning it's of the same sound effects, a lot of the same door stuff. Like, we see things moving in frame
Starting point is 00:04:02 without anybody else there, but it's still freaky A.F. And we had already been exposed to that prior in the first film. And also, I think the way that they set up these movies is great because it's very realistic. Obviously, we learned from the first one that they're doing a lot of improv.
Starting point is 00:04:22 They're just setting them in an environment. There's a lot of quick cuts, which keeps your attention span, right? We're quick cutting. We're talking about ghosts. We're in the pool. We're out of the pool. We're in the house. Like the pacing is always really good in these movies.
Starting point is 00:04:34 And also we're getting to know them during a really well-paced scenes, right? We're getting to know the mom, the dad, and how that family dynamic works in the top of the film with a lot of quick cuts. Kind of like a YouTube video-esque, right? Very homemade type of a deal. And then even though we're using the. the same tropes. It still totally works, but then it really keeps us on our toes once we learned that they're coming for their firstborn. And especially having the dog in play, those are two very vulnerable characters that you do not come for animals and you do not come for babies. Like get the
Starting point is 00:05:07 F out of here, yo. And so they went there. And thankfully we didn't see, we just saw the dog had a seizure and was okay, because dad said he was going to go pick her up. And then it was insane when you see that Abby comes the day after Mika is dead, she comes to that house covered in blood, cracks that guy's neck, the call back to throw into the camera shot. And then it's like she's never seen with Hunter again. I'm like, dude, she's off with Hunter, yo. Yeah, and the reason. Yeah, and the reason I was asking if we saw anything with Doug, Tara kind of alluded to it.
Starting point is 00:05:44 We're just being transparent with you guys as we were watching that whole scene unfold with Abby the dog. And Roxie and John walked in here as we were like intense preparation. Yeah. And we were like, holy shit, we weren't expecting it. Which was funny because there was an awesome comment that I saw on the paranormal activity video earlier today that we had reacted on the first one that said the only thing that would have been even more epic to this awesome reaction of your guys if Roxy would have come in and purged you guys. Well, we kind of got that without the purge part. Without that meaning to do it. Yeah, because we were in such a vulnerable state.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Curse my brains out, y'all. I'm sure it made for an awesome reaction because we weren't expecting. I was like, oh my God. Like, what? During this movie, stay out. I think when we watch it back, though, we're going to be like, in the moment, I hated that, but this is good material. It's going to work great for the video.
Starting point is 00:06:37 I mean, I think both, obviously, we both liked this film. I can't tell whether I like the first one or the second one better. I feel like the first one, it just, it has that, like, evergreen type. of a flare so if you're first watching one right it's the first time you're going to be exposed to those types of tropes that they're using to scare you which is just sound effects and like movements of things in frame it's a very simplistic idea and yet it delivers really well so I think probably the first one will maybe always remain on top but they still did a really good job with two and didn't let me down which is great yeah yeah no for sure I mean I love them honestly I love them both so much They're both great. They're going to look up trivia. Yeah, yeah. You go for that.
Starting point is 00:07:22 And I'm very curious if we continue the story with, because I didn't even think we were going back to the whole Katie and Micah, Mika thing. But that was again interesting. I'm very curious when we do get to paranormal activity three. Yeah. How the story continues. Because, again, I really loved what they did here with how they did that. And, yeah, and again, it could have been tedious, some of the tropes that they did continue. but again I think they found some fun new inventive ways like dropping the pans all the cupboards coming out new ways to scare us right and again I just like I said I love how they shifted the dynamics with having a full family and then Waltz including and I also I loved martin as well she was so good yeah and again I get where the dad was coming from where like you know it's it's kind of a newborn baby or however old Hunter was at that point like you know inhaling you know the the the the smoke from what's that called the
Starting point is 00:08:18 that she has. Sage. I'm pretty sure it's stage. Yeah, yeah. No, you're probably right. But like, I get where he's coming from. You want to be very ultra protective of your, your newborn child. But still, like, she was in her right mind. So, I mean. Her senses were tinkling in all the right ways. But, yeah, no, this, again, I just, I was uncomfortable the whole film, which is what the film set out to do. So, but I appreciated it. We got some. So, yeah. So take a guess as to. what the budget was for this one, this film. It was like $15,000 in the first one. Is that correct? Right. Okay, well, the first movie made a crap load of money. So I'm going to go, I'll go $75,000. They had to up it a little more.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Okay, good. $3 million, because the first one did so well. That was their budget. It went way up. But guess how much? This broke the record for the biggest midnight gross of an R-rated movie making. 6.3 million and the biggest opening for a horror movie of all time earning a total of 41 million 500,000 in its opening weekend so good job for that. That's not a $3 million budget. Yeah and the preview
Starting point is 00:09:34 for this film was banned in some theater for scaring teenagers and small children viewing PG-13 films. It is terrifying. For the scare scenes, most of the cast reaction are spontaneous, such as the cabinet sequence with Christy. Sprague Graydon was informed that one of the cabinet doors would fly open but wasn't warned that the cabinets would all spring open which provoked a genuine reaction from her smart perfect yeah you got you got a very authentic reaction from her there's a film have you seen die hard yet or no uh yeah a long time ago i don't remember okay well they they told the actor alan rickman when they were dropping him in the film uh because he really did drop about 50 feet they said okay we're gonna draw because he wasn't getting
Starting point is 00:10:16 the proper reaction like we're going to drop you on on a three count and they dropped them on one and then they got the proper reaction but I'm like smart. That's great. Yeah. The trailer for paranormal activity too used a lot of footage that didn't appear in the movie.
Starting point is 00:10:33 I hate it. That happens in trailers all of the time and or they'll only use the best part to the movie and then you go see a movie and you're like, this movie was crap. The trailer was great. This angered many fans, but the director said they had to
Starting point is 00:10:45 because of the storyline. During the climax immediately falling When the power goes out in the house There is a single out of focus frame We noticed that of oh my God We did not notice this Out of focus Frame of Hunter crawling in the street
Starting point is 00:11:02 That quickly flashes on and off screen We did not see that I did not see that We did see and I'm telling you I was looking all around Like I don't even stay on one character Right yeah I'm always looking away from the characters
Starting point is 00:11:15 Oh my God this is insane. I'll read two more. On the official site for the film, there are secret messages when the trailer is fast forwarded or rewound. Interesting. Additionally, after the trailer finishes playing, the baby appears in the mirror but isn't present in the nursery. Oh, also in the mirror letters written in what seems to be blood, spell a message. Upon flipping the picture horizontally, the message reads, what is happening to Hunter? That's scary. One last one. Kevin Grouchard was initially hired to helm the film It was forced to work on Saw 3D
Starting point is 00:11:50 When the producers of the film Exercised a Clause in his contract forcing him off paranormal activity too Interesting Huh, okay And this was announced shortly after paranormal activity 2007 Was released into theaters in 2009 So I think because probably Paramount was looking at
Starting point is 00:12:12 How well the first one did they probably like, let's make a second one right away. So great for the story and all the people on it. Yeah. Well, according to down here, we still got quite a few more at least to do. So thank you if you are still here with us. We still got some more to do, apparently. But yeah, maybe we should take some drama me next time we come for one of these films.
Starting point is 00:12:37 But again, I really appreciate the first two so far. Hopefully we'll continue along with three, four, and however else there are. But let us know in the comments section through one and two. What do you guys think of these films? Do you prefer one? Do you prefer two? Do you love them both? Let us know.
Starting point is 00:12:51 We'd love to hear your thoughts. And, yeah, sleep safe. Make sure no one ghostly is around you. Demon, like. And take care. Later.
