Starting point is 00:01:04 More on them in just a bit. Tara, I didn't bring the drama mean, did you? Nope. We're going raw, just like we've done all the other three. Yep, we're in for a long ride here. Okay, paranormal activities. Let's go. The marked ones commence.
Starting point is 00:01:30 All right. Well, guys, we just watched paranormal activity, the marked ones. The holidays are coming up. Get some loved ones. Get yourself some fun stuff. yeah um once again i just again i love the the lore building just it was such a simple idea in the first film was just mika and uh katy and you got this ghost or demon rather like haunting them again um i i just love how they've expanded the world and the storyline and like they've all
Starting point is 00:02:19 tied it back together back to the the first one and um and all the characters are just all connected they're all interweaved with each other i just i find it fascinating i love it so much and you can go back to the first one and like knowing what ends up happening whether it's the prequel or this one or the third one or the second whatever and like know like what's going to take place later and i think like it just it adds into an interesting storyline i think that's the thing for me like the jump steers are always like holy crap like yeah it makes for fun reactions for us at least for i mean it's not i don't know if it's fun but it's like at least it's pleasant for our adoring audience to watch us get tortured but right i mean i just love the characters in the storyline i just
Starting point is 00:03:00 i find it so fascinating it's it's really been like that's the thing for me that's um that's been the most fun to watch in this series like i'm like holy crap i i didn't know i mean i saw i saw the word paranormal into this and i'd always heard of the franchise so i knew there's something about ghost or demons whatever i didn't know the storyline was like that i did not know was this cool uh and i just i really love how they've just again expanded the world and the the characters and just again, weave everything together. I just, it's just fascinating in the coven and then just
Starting point is 00:03:31 everything and then like how you do the thing with the pregnant woman, the first born son, it's just, I find it all to be just so interesting. I mean, and I really like this, but I also like that they didn't as much as much as much. I'm scared. After that third movie, it's like, I don't know how much more I can take it is. I know. I almost died.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yeah, so I like that they comped down. This one was a little lower. Thank goodness. Yeah, but Tara, before I get your thoughts, I really did like that in this film we did see other characters be possessed in the previous movies whether it was katie and some the other characters but i did like in this one like at the point i made earlier we saw possessed like turning into that possession but starting out in that normalcy first and i thought that was an interesting way to go from this like seeing how you become possessed i thought that was a great
Starting point is 00:04:15 way to pivot in in terms of the possession and i thought that was like holy crap so this is how it starts and this is where it goes because we've only seen it from that that steady camera shot where Katie was like possessed and some of the other ways that they did and I was like this isn't it I liked how they did this here and like jesse really felt like a completely changed character like he was fun to be around he was cheerful he was positive he was optimistic and then by the end the film you're like get the hell away from him he's scary he did a really great job oh he's a great actor yeah for sure and i and i also like two last thing i want to say and i will get to you i love that the friends too like you can make an argument like they should have stayed probably
Starting point is 00:04:54 away from him easy to say that obviously in hindsight and when you're watching a horror film but i like that they didn't abandon him in in the time of me and i think that's what good friends do and i i think that was a positive message in such a negative and scary situation those are the best kind of friends to have around even if it didn't end well for them obviously but i think like not not abandoning him in his time of need i think those are the best kind of friends yeah i mean because they're not exactly sure like we are from the audience's perspective of exactly what's going on so it's like your friends just have having a real weird time and I agree with her when when how aggressive she was of like we can't
Starting point is 00:05:30 just leave him there we have to go get him versus like there's some people who might be like I don't know man like he might kill us what I thought was really interesting is that this is basically a story from like even one to now although we didn't realize it necessarily in one of like a cult needs a firstborn it's like and how that changes the the course of a lot of people's lives. Like the search for like the coven's firstborn to continually get their sacrifice changes very specific lives of specific families that somehow it all comes back around to that very first time that Toby showed up with like Kate's family.
Starting point is 00:06:14 But that was with her sister and her sister gave it to her, right? And like so complicated. And the fact that they left us some Easter eggs like you said with the girl, what's her name, with the number. Allie Ray. Yeah. I like that Easter egg. But what we hadn't seen before is that, and I know from watching so many other horror
Starting point is 00:06:34 movies, is that if you saw behind his bed, there was a ram, a ram head, like, shaped as, like, a woman. And Ram is very much, like, has to do with the devil. And then when they showed us, when they went to that house, we saw the cutoff, like, ram head in the middle of, like, their signature thinging. Right, right. And I thought that it was really interesting to start us off in seeing them draw that in blood around the woman's stomach. What I thought was extra scary about that is that they had OBGYN tools and they had talked about that they don't take the firstborn until it's ready, which means there's sometimes I think they take the firstborn when it's in utero because they say that.
Starting point is 00:07:23 that it's ready and cut it out and the mom dies. Right. So I just find that like insane. I find it all really wild. We had not seen that before, meaning gotten that deep into how they actually get the firstborns. Because we had seen how they take them when they're older, right? And yeah, we saw it back with Hunter.
Starting point is 00:07:45 We saw with Katie. We saw with a sister, how they're bouncing around and how these marked ones, you get a bite. and then it's the end of the days for you. Right, right. Which is crazy because we didn't really see that either in the last ones, but that just adds extra to like what we're going through, specifically with this coven and with the demon.
Starting point is 00:08:06 And all the little Easter eggs that they're giving us, I mean, that it goes along with what you're saying. We all like the lore that they're bringing into this movie, but they're also bringing in a lot of other tropes that completely makes sense from all other horror films, right? it's a bit of exorcism in there when you see the crosses start to fall in the grandma's like in the room right it's um when she does the eggs and does like the blessing over him he starts to like hurt in pain and i think that's like he might be like
Starting point is 00:08:37 the demon might be upset like she could have almost gotten him out which i found interesting i agree with i was thinking that too um and we didn't we didn't get any holy water or fire but there's still a lot in here that you would see from other movies of like fire, bury them alive, cut off all their limbs, cut off their head. Stuff like that is wild. And I think the best part of it is how they wrapped it all back around to the very beginning. And the reason why I said towards the end, she doesn't have blood on her yet, which is what we remember in the beginning before when we knew that she had the demon in her, but she hadn't
Starting point is 00:09:17 killed anyone yet. and we knew when we saw her in one walking down the stairs and then no not yet and then she she was she came back up but then cut to her yelling she had not killed anyone yet that was the very first time that was in the beginning days of her being with the demon inside right and i just find it wakadoo wild that they bring it back to that moment with him there obviously knowing that he is now carrying a demon as well I'm like oh that's that's nuts yeah no no that was wild and now we know too when you watch that first move when she's freaking on screaming that's hector that's making her scream although unintentionally he's not he's just scared for his life as well right and again I know we saw some of the strength of when you are possessed as well we've seen like you know when Dennis got oh turned the neck I think the grandma did or whoever was possessed at that time and then we saw obviously the strength of Katie in a couple of these different
Starting point is 00:10:21 movies but I like that we got to spend a lot of time with Jesse who was you know marked and we got to see his strength like full out and I thought that was fascinating as well again building upon the lore but like from his POV as opposed to just seeing it really quickly and then being done with it like seeing a whole movie whether it was like you know him on a chair like that was amazing how they were able to, which I'm not even sure they were able to do that. Yeah, great effect. They had to cut probably a green guy out and like Kevin Fall, which is a lot of work. Yeah, and also like the strength of him holding, stopping the bat with his hand. Totally. That was great. Or punching the guy with like super strength. Yeah, or punching through that car window and pulling the friend out. Oh, right, right, right. Yeah. And the door and all that. Like, it was scary, but like usually you see that for like a superhero like gaining his powers and it's like this was the exact opposite. Totally. So. was freaky and scary and I love again too how we went back to the location of the third house or the the house from the third film rather that was uh again it was wild to see how it looked 24 years later in time and I thought they did a good job of just like the aesthetics of how it looked
Starting point is 00:11:30 like it still looked the same but it also looked like it had been like 24 years later so I thought they did the production team did a good job of achieving that yeah that sense of like that old feeling of it still being the same but also like it almost felt like abandoned for a long time even though there's still like the coven is somewhere the house you mean yeah yeah yeah um and again like you said too i like that alley ray also to that alley ray from the second movie it makes sense that she'd be studying this her whole family was completely wiped out so this would be her life's she has to be yeah that one effect too where he was pulling uh right there that was oh my god it was an
Starting point is 00:12:05 amazing effect but it was nasty as hell though literally made me want to hurl yeah it was nasty it was nasty holy to molly that was gross yeah um But again, I really like, I mean, I've liked all the films on it. I would still say three was probably my, I loved them all, but three would probably still be my favorite one. Although the jump scares almost gave me a heart attack in that one. But I really, really like this one too. I liked all the characters. I like Jesse.
Starting point is 00:12:30 I liked Hector. I like Marisol. I even liked Oscar's brother. Like, I like that, you know, despite, you know. What was his name? Arturo, right? Yeah. I think.
Starting point is 00:12:42 But yeah, no, I, uh, this was. was a good one, too. Are you looking up trivia? Yes. I was looking it up to see if we could snag a few. I was going to say, I beat you to it. Did you find it? I found it. Okay, so at around the four-minute mark, according to an interview with Jorge Diaz,
Starting point is 00:13:02 when he did the scene where his character, Hector, performs a stunt on a laundry basket. He was supposed to glide down the stairs fast. However, the basket supported with wire to pull it down the stairs along with a skateboard underneath the basket. Its wheels removed, often got stuck between the steps. Finally, on the last take,
Starting point is 00:13:20 a member of the crew yanked the cable, which brought down the basket an actor to the bottom of the stairs, eliciting Diaz's genuine reaction. This last take was used in the final film. Oh, yeah, that's great. I love that. Yeah, that's why I felt so really. That's awesome. Yeah. Reject Nation.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I never really consider myself a sports guy. I know so many people who are in this sports. So many people who watch this channel are in the sports. My wife into sports. Sometimes it feels emasculating while she yells at the TV and I don't know what's going on. Why that feels emasculating? That's more to do with me than her. That's for sure. But anyway, the peer pressure got me to find a way to find fun with sports. And if you're looking for a fun and simple way to get into daily fantasy sports, let me introduce you to prize picks. It's America's number one daily fantasy app with over five million active members. And honestly,
Starting point is 00:14:04 it's the only one I've ever used. But for everyone who I know who has used fantasy sports thingies before says this is the easiest one they've ever used. My wife included and the Mrs. is never wrong. All you do is pick more or less on player stat projections. Like how many yards your favorite QB? That's not for quarterback by the way. We'll throw or how many points a star player will score. You can pick between two and six players and if you get them right, you win. Even I can comprehend this and I'm not the smartest guy. And like I said, it's easy to get started and it's easy to use. A lot of emphasis on the easy. Here's one easy example. So at the time of recording this, we just bet on Jordan Love, Jaden Reed, and Joe Burrow. Consulted with
Starting point is 00:14:38 John. John knows more about sports than me. So really this was his decision. So let's see you. if you take this whole operation or if we're filthy rich now great thing if one of your players ever gets injured prize picks has an injury insurance policy i could use some health insurance in my own life so your lineup stay in play rhymes bars baby and if you miss one pick you can still cash out thanks to their unique flex play option it's available in most states including california texas and georgia you can download the price picks app today use code rejects and get $50 instantly when you play just $5 there's a lot of $5.000. There's a lot of $5,000. in the shout-out five dollars fifty dollars five million members it's like the
Starting point is 00:15:17 number 23 but anyway you don't even have to win to get the bonus isn't that awesome price picks run your game ha ha get into daily fantasy sports like this expert over here the first and only paranormal activity film to feature the paramount opening logo and title card is gonna say I don't remember the paranormal yeah it never was I kept saying they would just start to get right to it yeah paranormal for paramount yeah like it's due to the longer production filming didn't wrap until late July 2013 resulting in the original release date of October 25th 2013 being pushed to January 3rd 2014 making it the only paranormal activity film
Starting point is 00:15:54 to not be released in the month of October in the month of October yeah yeah it's gonna say like I mean I feel like that must have sucked for them because even you also don't want to wait and Paramount wouldn't have waited either to release it for the next year in October yeah January's not a great month to release movies after Christmas so I'm assuming This movie didn't do too well. Yeah, and also, too, it's a horror film. So a horror film in January. Yeah, first film in the franchise is not to feature any nights.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Any what? Any nights? I feel like we were at night. Oh, yeah, it was the first film where it doesn't go October 12th, 1159 a.m. Yeah, you're right, you're right, where the camera is locked in and they're sleeping at night. Okay, you're right. I did notice that, actually.
Starting point is 00:16:43 I forgot to mention them. It takes place six years. I thought I was just saying like at nighttime. I was like, okay, no, that. It takes place six years after the events of the first paranormal activity film and immediately after the events of the fourth film. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:57 This movie alongside the ghost dimension, which I believe is the next one after this, has the lowest box office opening weekend of the franchise. I mean, you released. This one. Yeah, I'm not surprised. Like you just said, you released in January. it right now probably didn't do very well by the way I forgot to mention too like the character of jesse that i remember i said at the beginning he's like nightmare in elm street too that jesse
Starting point is 00:17:20 what was freddie trying to possess him and like he's being possessed also by a demon so i don't know maybe they're going to mention that in here but we'll say uh at around the 25 minute mark in real life ander jacobs who plays jesse has several tattoos covering his neck hands and arms among others. Since all the tattoos were digitally erased in post-production, the only scene where any of, or where any one of his tattoos are visible is the scene before the gangsters jump. Jesse, when Jesse is kneeling at the vending machine, you can see a tattoo above his right knee. Wow, they must have really wanted him as an actor. Yeah. He is young. He's good. I don't know who he is, but they must have really wanted him for them to digitally take out all of his tattoos.
Starting point is 00:18:06 you would normally just cast someone who doesn't have them. Yeah, well, also, too, don't they do? Isn't there a method that they do to, like, kind of just... You can do makeup, but if he has a lot of it, it's going to take a second. I probably would have done makeup. It might have been cheaper. Then you're going to have to, with every single frame, basically wipe that out, which is difficult. It takes time.
Starting point is 00:18:28 But again, we're at a paramount with editing. Maybe they had obviously a bigger budget. It's number five. I find that very surprising. For me to hear that, I know it's a paramount, but normally you would do that with a star name. I don't know this kid, although he did a really great job. For sure. This one's obvious at around the one hour and 17 minute mark, the cameo at the end featuring Micah, Micah, Micah, I'm sorry if I mispronced it, is the end of the first film just from a different point of view.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Great twist. Yeah, totally. Features cameos from previous franchise actors, Mika Sloat, Molly Ephraim. Chloe Sirkenzy, Jessica Tyler Brown, and Haley Lois only appears in a photo. I can't remember all the other cast members. I mean, I know Micah is from the first movie, but who are the... Those are the names of the actors. Yeah, oh, Molly is Ali Ray.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Yeah. And then who is which one? Oh, this is young Katie. Yeah. Okay. And then Jessica Tyler's that, Young Christy. And then let's see which one this one is. Oh, Grandma Lois from Paranormal Thurie.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Got it. Okay, that makes sense. Aside from paranormal activity, the ghost dimension, Katie Featherson is the only actor to appear in every single paranormal film. At around one hour and 13 minutes when the group is at Grandma Loises at the end of the film, there are several pieces of furniture underneath sheets. Under one sheet is a shape that looks suspiciously like a little girl, though it is never revealed whether it is or who it might be. Last one, right before the 18-minute mark when Hector. and Jesse are going through Anna's apartment as they're talking about the crib. Jesse's reflection
Starting point is 00:20:09 stares at him instead of moving. Oh, very cool. I miss that one. That's very cool. That's a very cool trivia thing. I love that. Yeah. Hopefully we can continue the series. You guys let us know if you'd like us too. But again, I really I really like this film a lot too.
Starting point is 00:20:28 And leave Christmas racks for us because, I mean, who knows? If we're not moving on, For this one, who knows what we'll move on to next? You never know. I know one Christmas horror film. I'm sure there's many others. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Or just Christmas films. Yeah, there's obviously there's gremlins and then there's also crampis. Have you ever heard of crampus? Yes. I've never seen either of those two. I've seen gremlins two a million times, so I've never seen gremlins one. I know people are probably like, what? I had the VHS.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I haven't seen either. Yeah, but there's that. Yeah, let us know if you want us to do those two. You love you. Yeah. So, guys, if you stuck around this far, we appreciate it. Thank you so much, and take care. You know, we set up hitting cameras in Landon Miller.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Oh, good. Because we wanted to create, like, a found footage documentary about Landon. We discovered some terrible things. It was way scarier than any movie. We thought we were going to do an uplifting, inspiring piece that we can submit to the BBC. Look at all these things that this guy's doing just on his own time that are good for the world. Altruistic human being, a massive benevolence. No, that was not.
Starting point is 00:21:37 That was not Landon Miller. It was really disappointing and really disturbing, honestly. He would put dishes in the dishwasher. Oh, no. Oh, don't even. Before clean. He wouldn't even clean them. He wouldn't even wipe them with full food on them.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Full meal. Full plate. On the plate. Full plate. He went to Burger King, unwrapped the Whopper, left it on the plate. They put it in the dishwasher. Just put it in the dishwasher. I don't know what he was saying.
Starting point is 00:22:04 He ordered Burger King to put in the dishwash. That's the weirdest thing. Leaving in the microwave or something. Yeah. Oh, it's not even if it started on the microwave. Oh, no, not the microwave. The amount of aluminum foil he would intentionally microwave. How many CDs can you put in one microwave?
Starting point is 00:22:20 That way too much. That house of his almost caught on fire. It is disturbing. The mold on the walls. Absolutely. That he would use as vegetable dip for guests. That's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Toadstools growing everywhere. Where just chopping them little caplets up. Making magic mushroom soup. Landon Miller, this is going to be an expose, as we call it in the industry. And I'm sorry, but you're going down this Thanksgiving. People are going to be thankful. You've got to know about you. Your neighborhood's going to be thankful to get rid of you.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Yeah, you're that creepy house in every neighborhood where the found footage movie happens. Creep us out. Yeah. You're a creepy guy. It wasn't fun. This was just sad. Happy Thanksgiving, man. Happy Thanksgiving, buddy.
Starting point is 00:23:04 You know.
