Tara Erickson and Aaron Alexander set sail for a swashbuckling adventure in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, the blockbuster sequel to Disney’s Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski. Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd) returns in his iconic, Oscar-nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow, who finds himself indebted to the dreaded Davy Jones—captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman—and must retrieve the legendary Dead Man’s Chest to save his soul. Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings, Kingdom of Heaven) reprises his role as Will Turner, who joins Jack on his quest while dealing with family revelations, including the fate of his father Bootstrap Bill, played by Stellan Skarsgård (Chernobyl, Dune). Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement) returns as Elizabeth Swann, now entangled in political intrigue and pirate peril. Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Underworld) delivers a chilling performance as Davy Jones, brought to life through groundbreaking motion-capture and visual effects. Naomie Harris (Moonlight, No Time to Die) appears as Tia Dalma, the mysterious sea witch with a deep connection to Jones. From the thrilling Kraken attacks and Jack’s iconic escape from the cannibal tribe, to the three-way sword fight on the giant spinning waterwheel, this film is packed with some of the franchise’s most famous and highly searched action sequences. The visual effects and Hans Zimmer’s sweeping score helped Dead Man’s Chest become one of the highest-grossing films of all time and a fan favorite within the series. Starting point is 00:01:52 Okay, our first one is from Jay. Oh, my mic went out. Now it's good. first one's from j russian pirates two what mascot would be on your boat examples black cat monkey parrot snake falcon or small dog do we have to pick from those specific options i assume so i want to go monkey then if it's out of those options obviously black cat i got two of them okay so that's my go-to hell yeah yeah um it's it's the best i love my kitty cats they're so great um okay so well okay pretend that he didn't give us those what would it then actually be like did you have one that you were like not out of that choice
Starting point is 00:02:38 i feel like mine would be unconventional what is it i'm gonna go with like a wolf or a kangaroo a wolf is like pretty solid kangaroo is unconventional though yeah because they're cute and they just hop around with a pouch yeah but you have like a giant like kangaroo head on my boat. Do you love kangaroos? Cangaroos are like, they're up there. Look at my top five. Wow. Top five of a kangaroo.
Starting point is 00:03:07 For sure. Wow. Okay. I love that. All right. You've got to get you to Australia to see the kangaroos in live. That's a terrible accent. I tried. Okay. Yeah. Our next one is from Pierre the Reject. It says, Aaron, have you played
Starting point is 00:03:25 the Kingdoms Hearts video game series? one of the comments thank you comments or there's a post-credit scene here of pirates too oh okay um then actually let's go back and let's watch that now launch um okay um wow i wouldn't think there'd be a post-credit scene if there was a ending what a crazy ending dude wait hold not yeah this is just the ending i was like what happened okay so we go here let me get to the post credit guys sorry about that i'm just gonna fast forward through the credits sorry editors come on now i'll play it right here and see oh come on
Starting point is 00:04:19 um we're towards the end i assume it's coming up here Oh, watch your credits. Come on. Unless we've been deceived because the commenter said there's post-credicine. Oh, here we go. Hello. The dog! Awesome.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yay, doggy! Wait, no, they're going to eat the dog. No, no, they're not. No, no, they won't. Because the dog is their god. He had a, he had a, he had a had. They will not eat him, I believe it. No, they will not.
Starting point is 00:04:57 not no i will not have it not on my watch he's king forever yeah i know you're telling him that he's going to be eaten and i won't just stop it you stop it he's eternal no he i will not oh my god did you see his little hat he's so cute but they gave him like a big bone so maybe that means they really they really love him and they want him around forever my head cannon says he lives He's going to rule them for years to go. I hope so. Oh, I love it. Okay, so I'll go back to Pierre the Reject, said,
Starting point is 00:05:33 Aaron, have you played the Kingdom Hearts Video Game series where the Pirates of the Caribbean movies is a world? And fun fact, the battle theme of the world is based on the movie theme. You know, it's so funny. For years, for years, Mr. Pierre, the Reject, I have been told to play the Kingdom Hearts games by a lot of my nerdy friends and in fact I have
Starting point is 00:05:57 the original set a friend of mine let me borrow them many years ago and for some reason time life procrastination I have not played the Pirates of the Caribbean in the Kingdom Hearts game
Starting point is 00:06:12 because I've not played the Kingdom Hearts game I played the first one like some years ago when the mechanic it was fun I really dig the story of mythology I remember the theme song When you walk away, you will hear them say, please, oh, baby, don't go. I remember that theme song from my childhood and commercials and stuff, but I have not played the games.
Starting point is 00:06:34 But I really want to. Shime. Shime. Shime. Shime. The mechanics from the first one are a little dated. So I need to beat the first game. So I can get to the second game.
Starting point is 00:06:45 So I can experience Pirates too. But when I do, I'll let you know. he'll let you know Pio all right the next one's from Lucy she says not a question
Starting point is 00:06:58 just remember post credit saying that's what he read thank you Lucy yeah thank you for that Lucy because we we do miss those things so
Starting point is 00:07:07 yeah the end of the first film too oh snap yeah we will we'll look out we'll look out for all the rest
Starting point is 00:07:17 now we know we'll be looking for those post credits scene so we will not miss out ever again because we love you okay jennifer dixon says who was your favorite new character that was added this time around davy jones was awesome i love the yeah i mean i feel like everybody you got to say that right fine if i'm not saying davy jones i'll say the the witch lady she's really cool she was great i really liked her and it i feel like she's definitely coming back because
Starting point is 00:07:50 she's going to show us how to bring Captain Jack Sparrow back from the dead. The world's end and they said it I know that I think the third one's called at world's end so that's the perfect layup setup for the next movie which I wonder if they filmed two and three together
Starting point is 00:08:07 because I saw them IMDB this one came out in 2006 and the next one comes out in 2007 oh they had to have them back to back because there's absolutely no way they could have done I mean this is just so much work my assumption is they probably only took a few months break assumed it was going to do really well i mean it's disney and then filmed again right away also 2006 we acknowledge how freaking
Starting point is 00:08:31 crazy it is how good baby jones looks i am 20 years ago i am absolutely with you on that which is why i was kind of thinking but then when i looked at his eyes i was like oh i think it is cg i but um i it might be a slash of some practical on his face with a bunch you know the dots mocap yeah um with obviously a lot of cg i but i agree with you the head the head turns the reason that i knew it's that actor it's the guy who plays the music and love actually you know him he's tall he's blonde he has the accent i knew it right away and i was like that's the actor i knew it just by his facial expression the way he turned and i still got that through david Jones through not even seeing his face and I love him as an actor and I'm so glad they chose him
Starting point is 00:09:21 because normally you you wouldn't really you'd kind of see him as like a villainous. It's Bill Nye. Bill Nye. Yes. Yes. Sorry, he just looks really old in that in that picture that you show me and I was like, oh yeah, he will forever be in my brain as the guy who's in love, love actually, even though he's literally everywhere. he's a brilliant actor and in everything billy mac he felt that that came out three years before this movie and i bet you they watched it and went him because he's so it which is total opposite of of davy jones but um yeah i agree with you david jones that that the the lady what was her
Starting point is 00:10:04 name we don't know the the um they did say spells lady spells lady she was great um favorite but like favorite new character i mean yeah those two are great um they're the most interesting look to me those those were the ones that really stood out i agree really cool i wanted to know more about her setting her mythology Naomi harris i was right oh so you were right there you go yeah yeah she was great and i feel like she's going to come back because she's the setup to be like oh i can bring i can bring uh jack sparrow back but i also like that she had a potion for like the depression the sadness she's there like handing it out i would like to see more of an environment that has her in it and what the repercussions are of having her be in that environment like how does she
Starting point is 00:10:57 help him help them how does she get them to where they are like i would just like to see more of her and see how that affects the story i mdb says her name is tia dolma Tia her Tia don't Oh yeah Jack did say Tia something I don't know if he said Tia Doma
Starting point is 00:11:17 But I thought he was saying We all remember like Tia as an aunt So I was like Oh maybe they're related or something Okay Well she was great Let's see if there's any other questions for us There is
Starting point is 00:11:29 There's another one from Chase Lee He says remembering what pirates Actually were at the time Terrorists or freedom fighters depending on who you ask it was always weird to me that we all romanticized them but with that being said if you had your own crew of pirates or privateers in that time period who would be in your crew can be anyone you know or celebrity slash characters and what would you all be doing together huh that's a good question I don't know because you need like a group of people that
Starting point is 00:12:05 you really you really trust and how big is your crew that's another question i that's a thick boy right like i i would say that my closest friends who i see like often it would be one two three four five and like six like core like core core you know it probably be them that i'm thinking even though i have more friends than that but you get what i mean like like you get what i mean like the core people that you see often that you feel calm that they're like family it probably would be those i'm thinking i know it's funny i was thinking more i guess in the sense of who could who could be about that life who could actually realistically be on the sea and go like search for gold and stuff i'm just thinking who do i want to be on a ship with for that freaking long and
Starting point is 00:12:57 i'm like i think it might have to be my core crew okay are you all cruising or you pirate in you feel you'd feel like your crew could pirate? Yeah, I feel like... Okay, all right. I mean, I think we've got it in us. I do. I do. I think we do.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Do you... Okay. You don't have full faith that the friends can pirate. I feel like some of them could. I feel like some of my other friends could not pirate. Yeah. Yeah. See, I have a stomach for it.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Okay. But I still love them, though. I like that you thought that they might have... My friends might not either, but I'd be like, it's this or we die. like we have no we have to pirate like we get your shite together this is the life they said he could pick celebrities in there i don't know why when each other the first the first person i thought it was john bernthal i feel like he could pirate oh my god that's such a good pick i feel like he could pirate the f out of like anything oh that's a good choice yeah i feel like he's he's like rough and tough
Starting point is 00:13:57 and he can get it oh man there's so many people i don't know i feel like This is the Gandalf that I knew. What if I could put a slice Stallone? He's old as hell, but I'll still have him. Okay, sure. Yeah, yeah, I can see it. Jason Statham could pirate. Yeah, him, but then the other one who's in Warrior.
Starting point is 00:14:17 He's bald and he also placed. Joel Kenanman or Tom Hardy. Tom Hardy can pirate. Tom Hardy can pirate. Tom Hardy can pirate, oh, yeah. Tom Hardy can pirate, come on my ship. You know who might be a little crazy, but I feel like he could pirate, Shilabuff. I feel like Shilabuff can pirate.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Oh, he could. Dude, he would be a crazy-ass pirate. Oh, yeah. Did you all know that it was like maybe like six years ago? I went to Catalina Island for Christmas break with my aunt. Shia LeBoff was staying at the same hotel. He was with a girlfriend who looked like a model. And he had eight young black kids with him taking them around the island.
Starting point is 00:15:02 They were, I don't, I don't know, Aaron, I don't know. And I thought, this is like a one day thing. What is, what is this? Nope. He was there for as long as, it was like a week. And every day would be him, like in a golf cart, the kids would be with them. I remember he yelled up because I was doing like, I was climbing. There's like an event where you can climb on the ropes and you got to say out yourself. And he's like, is this fun. I was just remember like, Shaila Buff is yelling at me. And I don't know why. he's taking care of like eight kids that he doesn't know right now. Siri, who are Shia LeBuff and the eight black kids? From Catalina Frickon Island. I don't think Siri knows. Hey, Siri, who are the, who are Shaila Buff and the eight Catalina black kids? Catalina, it's not going to know. Catalina Island.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Hey, Siri, who are Shia LaBuff and the eight Catalina Island black kids? it's not helpful okay well let me let's just look wait we have to look we we're going to ask one more question did shyla buff adopt any black kids I don't know I don't know we have to ask we have to ask eight of them we have to ask I don't know maybe that's his pirate crew oh my God Dude, let me see. You're right to says, Shilba, who adopt, blah, blah, blah. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I don't think he did. Who are those kids? Where are they now? Shailabuff kids. How long ago is this? This was, it was 2018. 2018. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:50 I. Where are they now? Yeah. So you got just look. You guys look it up because, I mean, there's, there has to be receipts. Like, there's going to be pictures of him. Catalina Island, I believe it was, it was 2017 or 2018.
Starting point is 00:17:05 He's going to be there. He might not be pictured with a kid. He will be. He will be. What was he doing? I don't know. Listen, we got way too sidetracked on that. I don't.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Catalina Island, look it up. Shia LeBuff. When you got time, do more research. Leave it in the comments. Let us know. Let us know. Okay. Oh, let's just load more comments.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Holy tamale. Hold on. Let's see if there's any more. Oh, yes, there's more pirates. Okay, is Bill Nye as Davy Jones, the best live action, Disney villain, and why is the answer? Yes, I love that. That's from Everton. Thank you, Everton.
Starting point is 00:17:44 You know what? I do. I do really like him. He's awesome. He's really, really good. And, yeah, because he is a man who, one, he makes people trade their, their soul, their bargain. going to be part of his crew but also he's a man who who had love in his heart but love was too painful so he had to push it away so he keeps his heart far away from him and he looks cool
Starting point is 00:18:13 he's got musical talent got some tentacles yep man's got style i can't i can't argue with that and i think he's great and i assume he's going to be in the third one so even more villainy to come maybe he'll really earn that title of best disney villain i think he's up there i can't definitively give him the title but yeah as of yet but you know there is more time to to cement that it's true like i don't know if i can do best live action disney villain i would really have to like think about it but as you can tell everton this like he was only on the screen for like 20 minutes and the way he moved his head and his eyes went i went that's that guy which is bill nine so uh he's definitely up there i love that they cast him
Starting point is 00:18:58 in this i mean like you said you know he locks his heart away it is similar to some other characters that he's that he's played he has a wider range than most actors on this earth so i think that that is probably why he got this this role but also just he's brilliant but his range is just insane of as to what he can play and still make it feel grounded and believable and I loved it, loved everything about it. So he's definitely up there at best live action Disney villain. I'm trying to think live action. Who's the other like, oh, well, there was like, oh, Ursula, no.
Starting point is 00:19:40 I love Ursula in the animated, but not. Galgado. Oh, you mean Galgadoo in Snow White? Yeah. You think she's the best one? Mm-hmm. From the movie I haven't seen. She's definitely up there for sure.
Starting point is 00:19:57 she's tough it's a good it's a good joke that you just made that's good i haven't seen the movie so i'm excited to watch it whenever coy and i get to do that but excited okay because look you know you know you you say the movie's bad but i feel like the first one's so simple i feel like it's hard to fuck it up so i'm like i'm excited to see what they do you'll i don't have nostalgia passed to it so I'm like, let's see what happens. Reject Nation. Life's only gotten busier. Filming, working out, getting a new studio, all the moving.
Starting point is 00:20:31 But I've learned that when I stay consistent on what I put in my body, I perform better across the board. No joke, mentally, physically, all in all. In case you didn't catch the memo, back in January, I weighed 218 pounds. As of late, I'm down to 173. Here's a latest photo right here. I'm working on body composition right now. I've got to get that full six-pack abs. And Hewle's Black Edition, ready to drink, has been a big part of that journey.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Got so much in that fridge right there. I really love the chocolate one, a complete meal in a bottle. It's got 35 grams of protein, 27 essential vitamins and minerals, slow release carbs, high fiber, low sugar, perfect for my diet plan. No cooking, no prepping, just grab and go. And especially now in the middle of summer, I'm moving fast, baby. And Hewle's always ready. Oh, he's just putting in the fridge. This tastes so good, especially.
Starting point is 00:21:21 It's kind of hot in here, and this tastes really good. You toss in your bag, drink between shoots and your workouts like me. Fules me without slowing me down whatsoever. I can drink it on the road. Love the taste genuinely awesome. No chalky after tastes like a lot of other shakes. They got a bunch of other flavors. Chocolate's my personal favorite because I'm a chocolate fanatic.
Starting point is 00:21:39 And as someone who loves chocolate, but it has to avoid most chocolates because I'm trying to be healthy to have a chocolate shake. Thank you, God. Hewles delivered over 500 million meals worldwide, and now is your chance to try it. So if you'd like to support the channel, but more importantly, support your health. Starting point is 00:22:15 Our next one is from Trey Stewart. How do you think the CGI in this film compares to C. CGI. Today, do you feel like it's better, worse, or about the same? What do you think? I think today, like, there is some CGI where I'm like, y'all are cutting corners and it's 20, 25. And I look at this from 2000. What did it say? Six. Six. And it's freaking great. Yeah. There was literally, even with the, the sea creatures getting out of the water, um, I, there had to be, I mean, I know that they're probably using mocap whatever there was only one and it was like way in the it was way in the back where i was like and he moved a little weird and i was like that's obviously cg i nothing in frame to me was unbelievable
Starting point is 00:23:00 no not at all i think they they'd spend a lot of time and effort and money uh to make the cgi really fluid and really believable and i really think it's more so about the time and energy and money they put into the effects because there's like like tera said i've feel like baby jones in this movie is on par with thanos in 2018 to 2019 and that's some of the best visual effects i've ever seen even he has like little chinny hairs you know like the the the way they captured josh brolin's facial expressions in that movie is totally now also james cameron's avatar came up three years after this one i think that those effects look incredible as well totally and you know it's it's a combination of i feel like a lot of it's in shadows
Starting point is 00:23:43 but even when it is in the light it still looks incredible so it's just a amount about the effort you put in because quite frankly the cg i in this looks better than some of the marvel movies today i'm not going to lie to you yeah um absolutely but yeah i don't think it's a time thing as far as you know 2006 versus 2025 and and you know the years in between then i think it's more about um effort and intention and i feel like they definitely came to play with with for sure for sure um because tray said the budget for the film is 225 million which is a lot, but a lot of big blockbuster today have around the same amount, if not more. In his opinion, CGI today feels worse than it did 19 years ago, and I'm not sure why. I feel like movies today
Starting point is 00:24:29 have some great sequences using CGI, but a lot of scenes you can tell were shot in front of a green screen. I can't recall off the top of my head a single scene from dead man's chest that stands out with bad CGI. What are your thoughts? He says, also appreciate you guys. Thank you, Trey. Well, I think it's just because CGI has gotten easier so people have gotten lazier and I
Starting point is 00:24:54 don't feel like a lot of this was on a green screen. There was probably some but my assumption is that they mixed it really well and they had to do obviously
Starting point is 00:25:10 you know, mocap with the CGI and do it really carefully. I mean, if you look at, although the Mando, Mandalorian is like, that was the biggest, so fun, because they're bringing, they brought back practical, right? Which is what, I mean, I love and most people do anyway. But there's still some, like, CGI in there
Starting point is 00:25:33 that I think is, like, not terrible. It's not, like, bad to where it pulled me out of it. And I don't know why I just thought of that example, but I just think maybe Disney is just doing it well, except for the Little Mermaid wasn't good. You like the CGA and the live, the live animation, the CGI in that was like, it wouldn't have not great. Was the hair too floaty?
Starting point is 00:25:57 Flounder, why did they make him look like that? And the hair was like, yeah, like. I thought Holly Layley was good, though. She was great. She was great. Like, the talent wise, great. Just there's some other stuff that I was like, what happened here?
Starting point is 00:26:12 but I feel like it's because it's gotten easier to do CGI. Everyone's like, it's fine, we'll just do it in post, green screen it, here's a shot, it's fine, we're just going to use CGI versus my 2006, 2007, that they're really trying to go, we need to add in all of these so that we're only CGIing like around the thing instead of it being full hair CGI. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:41 it could have been all the technicals could have been i don't know maybe i think i think part of my theory is that when and you guys can correct me from wrong of this but i feel like with the the rise especially with like with with marvel films and other studios make a lot of films that are cgi heavy as well the the volume of films involving cgi by individual studios has gone up which means production uh costs on those have been like more dispersed or given less money to those productions, but also having them come out more, more spittily, I don't know, more. Frequently? Sure, yeah, frequently.
Starting point is 00:27:20 That's a better word for it. So maybe that's it because, you know, we're getting, you know, a high volume of films involving more CGI, which are not always to the standard of a time like 2006 where we're getting high budget blockbusters like this less frequently. Right. Right. It could have to be, yeah, it could be a disbursement of like budget for sure, money, and then where is it going to go? I don't know, man, but I mean, we say this a lot that we'll watch old movies. Like, dude, Jurassic Park came out in like the early freaking late 80s or early 90s, the first one, late in the 90s. That Brontosaurus. That was practical.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Not the, not the Brontosaurus. Oh, no. No, no, no. You're talking about the one. Yeah, that was lying on the ground. That was practical. And then the head, they used practical. But when you first see it in the, when they arrive in the truck,
Starting point is 00:28:21 and you see the big tall Brontosaurus or brachiosaurus, that's CGI. And it's freaking amazing. Looks real. You're looking at it. You're like, it's huge. You're eating a freaking tree. That was back in the day. And I agree with you, try some stuff I look at it now.
Starting point is 00:28:38 And I'm like, that looks not good. So I don't know. I don't know. I'm with you, though. Thank you for that. All right. Last one is from Thomas Doherty. Do you think this movie's visual effects still hold up today? You know it, buddy. Yeah, it does. Yeah, baby. Yeah, baby. We just talked about that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:55 She was bombastic. It was beautiful. And I'm excited to see. Hopefully they remain consistent for the rest of the franchise. I agree. That like the octopus at the end, especially when it opens its mouth, it kind of reminded me of stranger things a little bit. Remind me of Dune. Oh, of Dune, too, the sand monster. Yeah. Totally.
Starting point is 00:29:17 And, like, even that didn't look weird. With him going in there, like, it still totally holds up. Disney has done it, done it right with this, for sure. Yeah, it was awesome. Okay, so what are your any other thoughts about Zafim? do you have any yeah i thought this film was really fun i thought it was a really cool continuation of the first one because i feel like the first one was very much a self-contained movie but they found interesting ways to build upon small things that they established in the first movie
Starting point is 00:29:55 to expand upon the mythology and create an interesting second story like them the quick line about what happened to will's dad the line about um the the the ex-fewy Yonse giving Jack Sparrow and his crew a day in advance because he was going to give them mercy and they built upon that and those things came back. Totally. The fact that they let Jack go in the first place and that's what caused this whole journey for Will and Elizabeth Swan to go on the journeys they had. I like the consistency, the theme about what we bargain for, what we value, the things
Starting point is 00:30:30 we will trade for the things that we want. you know jack was after his own his after his own hide his own skin and the i can't remember the guy's name the commodore and that's the reason i was confused yeah because i was like because i didn't remember his actual name I thought his name i was like okay i thought his name was commodore but like oh no it's his title
Starting point is 00:30:51 yeah it's his title uh so he looked a little different in this movie and because he had facial hair and disheveled hair and he didn't have his fancy wig um but yeah he was after his his uh his pride his honor and will and elizabeth were after love and then the culmination of those themes all kind of played out on that beach when they were all fighting each other yeah and yeah i thought it was a really fun expansion of the film it was it was dark and i feel like it remained interesting even though you know it's a it's a little long but i think that it remained interesting through
Starting point is 00:31:26 the entirety of the film and i really loved it and i look forward to watch on everyone yeah i mean I would say, dude, the twist when Kira kisses Johnny Depp. Oh, what? Holy to Molly. That was a fun twist and she locks him up. That was really fun writing there. But I like that, you know, Jack Sparrow grew
Starting point is 00:31:48 a character here, right? Because he's always that selfish and that's just good storytelling. I think all of them did in different ways, but more specifically Jack Sparrow, that he actually did live up to Elizabeth's like standards and what she was saying because member how she was like she's like you have no standards and no pride and no like
Starting point is 00:32:08 moral compass or whatever she's telling the pirates um and then of course johnny dep or jack sparrow proves her wrong by coming back you know he comes back but she still sort of locks him up but in the end it's honor that that that he really goes down with right he's killing the crackin and it's a selfless thing because everyone thinks he's just a selfless guy that he lies a lot although he's he's been very very honest and he keeps saying that people keep not believing me that i'm an honest person um so i really like how much that changed because he did have that that option to obviously to leave them he looks at the compass he thinks about what um kara nightly says and like how he feels about being a pirate his community and that boat there you just can't take that away from him and then so that's why
Starting point is 00:33:07 when he shows back up you're like and she goes you are a good man i i knew that you were um you know it just showed growth there and i like that the character development there is is a lot of fun because we've really only seen jack sparrow kind of just love rum and be like let's get money and get my things but deep down like that little undercurrent throughout the script the little lines in there shows you that he does care and he is a good guy right um yeah what were you what were you looking at uh i well for before before i read that's yeah say that i think that also i really enjoy will's growth in this movie and him reconnecting with his dad and just kind of further uh showing his his character you know him even though his dad left him at a very young age he still
Starting point is 00:33:54 wanted to go back and trade back for his his dad's life him even going to deal with the stuff with davy Jones to entertain Jack Sparrow's wishes or bargain to just to he could free his fiance. I thought all that stuff was great. Also, you know, this kind of played into his legacy and being a pirate in his own right. You know, his trickery of Davy Jones because playing the game just to steal it anyway and then leading the crew telling them what to do while Jack Sparrow wasn't there. I think this only perpetuates his legacy and the fact that he's. is a natural born pirate so i think that's right i liked it like you know when he met his dad that
Starting point is 00:34:39 that really like spun on to him to be it's as though it made him a stronger pirate because it's you know he saw him and then it was it all just started to click after that especially after his dad like whipped it was like the whole thing and you're like what and then after that the growth of him as a pirate alongside Elizabeth simultaneously was a lot of fun to watch. Yeah, no, she's a great pirate in our own right. Finally, they gave her a sword and like, she kicks a butt. She did. Also, the Barbado twist was crazy.
Starting point is 00:35:12 I did not see that coming. That was awesome. And I'm excited to see him in the third one because he was such a fun villain in the first one. Totally. Okay. So we didn't do Rotten Tomatoes last time because we had a lot of questions. Thank you guys for sending those in. But I want you to guess the.
Starting point is 00:35:28 rotten tomatoes scroll for critics for the first one and then we'll do the second one for the first one um okay critics for the first one i am gonna go that they did 71 and the audience gave it an 89 for the first one okay critics for the first one okay critics for the first one 79 a little bit Okay, that's good. And you said $70.89 for the audience, so a little bit lower, but still in the ballpark, 86. Okay. That's for the first one. For the first one.
Starting point is 00:36:09 The second one, I think it's going to be, then I'm still going to go with this one. I'm going to say that it's like 73 for critics and audience, I'll go 84. Okay. Critics for Pirates of the Caribbean 2, 53. I knew it was going to be lower. That's crazy. I knew it was going to be lower. That's so insane.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Yeah. And what is the audience? Audience is 72. Okay. The audience is lower as well. Took a dip too. That doesn't make sense. I feel like the first one's a more, I guess, solid film overall overall, but I really,
Starting point is 00:36:47 really like this one. Like, it's up there. It's not far behind any quality for me. I would agree with you with that. Maybe it's because of the length, even though the first one was about two hours plus, I think. It was a little bit, right? I wonder. It was 223, so not too much longer. Not too much longer. Okay. You know what? I will say that the pacing of the first one felt faster, a faster pace. I noticed the time more in this one. And that can obviously just internally lead to lower scores because if your body's feeling the time, you haven't fully escaped into the thing that you're watching.
Starting point is 00:37:35 And I did feel that time a little bit more in this one. That's not to say I didn't love it. I mean, obviously was totally in with Bill Nye and like obviously when they're traveling and stuff. But there was a lot going on. You know, what it made me feel like. Because you guys know, I've rewatched all the Jurassic parks with Greg. It made me feel like Jurassic, like, world. Like, you know, when they throw them in the container and they're like, this is new and inventive, and they throw them in there. And then there's, like, there's fighting.
Starting point is 00:38:08 It's like they were trying to think of ways of, like, how can we get the pirates in a different situation where they're not just always on a ship, fighting or doing cannons? And they took Johnny Depp out to be a god. that was going to be sacrificed. And then we move like the pirates are trying to like, they're in that thing. And then they're in the water. And then they have to get the key and the heart. And we have Davey James.
Starting point is 00:38:32 But then we also have Cracken. There was a lot going on. And maybe that was just. Potentially. And yeah, even though the movie was already long, I could, I still felt like maybe some stuff was cut out. Yeah. Because, yeah, we go from them being on the ship after Davey Jones comes on and gives him
Starting point is 00:38:51 the spot to them already being on the island and already captured totally i was like yeah we skipped over how that happened entirely and that's like a thing that i think that i would have wanted to see or liked to see i mean uh when we got to land that was still fun and it was still funny i just i don't know i get what you mean by having stuff cut out and i'm wondering what part was my least favorite and i couldn't tell you because i wasn't like oh i hate this part so boring um i just I don't know where the time in my body where I really felt it the most
Starting point is 00:39:26 but I did feel it more than the first one. Yeah, I can say I felt the narrative construction on this one to get certain pieces where they needed to be so things that happened later. Like them getting to Tortuga and then Elizabeth finding her way to Tortuga
Starting point is 00:39:42 so they can be in the same place. Yeah. So I felt the construction. Yeah. Right. And I feel like when you feel that and the time goes by And you're like, well, how are we all?
Starting point is 00:39:52 Obviously it's going to end where we're all back together. How do we get there? But how do we get there smartly to where the audience isn't trying to go, what's happening here and how are we going to get back where it's more, I guess, a surprise? I don't know if it was as great a surprise when things popped up in this one, except for that kiss. That kiss was, they went in, dude. They went in. Will saw it.
Starting point is 00:40:18 Will saw yet. Now, I'm still like, they didn't even talk about it. You know what it also could be because even for as long as it is, it's not a complete story. Yeah, you're right. Because of the ending and like where we, where we, where we ended. Yeah, because, you know, Davy Jones was like, oh, cursing you, Jack Sparrow. And then we still don't know why the, unless we miss something and unless we miss something, there was the why the guy wanted the heart in the first place i don't remember why yeah i just know
Starting point is 00:40:54 that he wanted it that's why he wanted the compass so he can go find davy jones's heart but i don't remember them saying why he didn't say why he just said you're going to do this for me and then i'll let your wife go right um that's all i kind of remember because i'm like okay we got this villain we don't even know his motivation yet and i feel you should probably establish that within your film but you know we're gonna watch the third film so maybe they'll finally get those answers i think maybe you're right because it was just like oh it's ending on like a to be continued right because we see what's it's nuts i forget his name but the you know the green apple monkey pirate guy is back and he's he's great so that's fun but yeah maybe maybe that was like oh it's a to be
Starting point is 00:41:36 continued a vibe and also maybe people were mad that jack sparrow died except we know he's coming back to live because they said it at the end yeah that's the whole film point they're gonna go out to see or go to the world's end to try to bring jacksboro back which i don't know what that means i don't know how i don't know how barbadoes is still alive got stabbed at the last one yeah i also don't know how the monkey still goes all undead i'm very confused by that but maybe i missed something let us know in the comments below and yeah i'm excited i'm looking forward to the third one i hope this is the last thing i'll say is just i hope that the three core meaning Jack Sparrah, Elizabeth and Will,
Starting point is 00:42:17 are back together, again, like doing pirating with the crew, and maybe that was another thing. They were all separated. They were all kind of on their own, except, yes, they finally kind of got back together, two and two, and split up and whatever. But I kind of missed that as well, like all kind of fighting together
Starting point is 00:42:33 and figuring out what the hell it is we're doing. Anyhow, leave us comment. Tell us what you guys think about all the things, what we said, tell us we're cool.
