Thank you to Hewle and Shopify for sponsoring this video.
More on them in just a bit.
Anyway, John, you're ready to wrap this up?
I'm so ready, baby.
Let's do it.
all right guys well hey we want to give a special thank you to prepper for editing down these reaction highlights as always they are consistently doing a stellar dweller of a job jack prepper and as always if you're listening to us on apple or spotify we just watched reacher season three finale right now um john i thought that was the best finale out of the three seasons that was really
tight, really punchy.
I suppose after we talk about it a little more,
we might be able to further unpack whether or not this is our favorite season or not.
But yeah, as it stands, I think, if I remember correct,
it's been a long time since that first season.
If I remember correctly, because that was also,
the, all the seasons do have like kind of a explosive action-packed finale.
and i remembered some slight feeling about the first one i don't want to like put down the first
season to try to elevate a strength in this season i really like i got a smidgen of a
of a memory of thinking so i'm not i'm really not 100% sure but i remembered like some people
even echoing this statement that the first season um
it kind of felt like they needed to do a big finale action thing when so much of what was making
that season work was not that and so it just sort of felt like they they had they did it in a way
that felt semi perfunctory in a way that was like an 80s action movie I remember being like
really big and fun um it was some great moments especially as the as the uh episode was closing
out um but in terms of like just comparing three action packed finale
I feel like this is the best one
because it maintains tension.
It keeps building.
The way they,
by building,
not only are the fights building,
particularly the one with Jack and Polly,
but when they started throwing in other action moments
like with the bathroom fight.
Yeah,
these like simultaneous operations happening
while the party is all kind of the nucleus around everything.
Yeah, Teresa being rescued.
they did a great job at like cutting around and watching it escalate all the way down to the Quinn death scene
you know so I thought and like going from the Pauley 5th and him walking around like the terminator with a shotgun and stuff so I thought that this was just like had the best build and focus and choreography too was pretty awesome like it never got too hyper stylized like you have to keep it in a realm that's still real but it still is very much 80s action movie they're good at selling it yeah you believe it still yeah they're going to
grounding how they capture it and and two like letting shots at least be wide enough and hold for
just long enough that yeah you can appreciate the choreography and it does especially in the poly
uh reach or fight feel like you know two guys trained in stunts go and had it you know yeah the
barn the barn to go from the the outside in the truck fight to then in the barn where they're
like thrashing each other around to the waters to then chasing and then back to where back to the shack
back to the shack and then ending off finally paying off of that gun like yeah i love that they
really let damn is there there's a reacher hashtag hashtag rc hr i never seen that before my life
um i think it's i think it's they're like numerical it's how they categorize the episodes
like technically probably oh really oh yeah our rc hr 308 probably just yeah oh okay i thought it was
a hashtag for reacher but um could be why don't i'm like you're just missing a few letters but uh yeah
The action itself was really, it was really sweet, diggety.
And because it, I did think it was going to come to a close just right there in the barn.
But I love how they really, they built up that one fight so much.
Yeah.
And they literally, it takes up like a half the episode.
You know, it takes up so much of the episodes for a time.
But it's kind of what you want.
Like they really service the audience and the payoff.
there and um i do wish we got a little bit more if there's a couple of wishes that i wish we got
is duffy and teresa getting a little bit more of an emotional moment considering so much of
the drive that at least i personally cared about teresa being rescued was because of how much
it was affecting duffy and while she does complete the job i wish there was a bit of an emotional
moment for her there in some way maybe maybe maybe
if it's not even directly with Teresa, but
with someone else as opposed to just
doing the job. Because I get she's like
female reacher in some ways, but she's
not, you know, just that.
Yeah. Yeah. So
I do, I do wish we had that.
I mean, how do you feel about that? Do you not
care? I mean,
it would have been nice, certainly. Like, I
appreciate that we at least got to follow
through to her
being dropped back off at her
grandmothers. I could imagine a version
of this where there's almost like a
like a more extended epilogue sort of like i think seeing villi on the doorstep with his wife is
just enough that's nice um and you know reacher getting to drive off on the motorcycle seems like
the obvious kind of last shot richie going off on his own it's like they're all proportioned
but it is the one that yeah i would agree like if you had done some kind of actual scene there
and um you know because she feels such a responsibility i guess you could infer
in your mind what that scene would be like but yeah i wouldn't i wouldn't have been upset to get that um i
wasn't like terribly missing it here but at the same time for the way in which we are able to get
to know her a little bit because she's still alive it would have been nice at the you know
in hindsight at the very end to yeah have her to like introduce her to us since she's been
such a figure throughout the season regardless of whether or not we've spent any time with
and we've only seen her in these really horrible positions.
So, like, you know, the joy of the end is vindicating.
But also, yeah, it would have been nice to, again, as an audience, meet this character
and be able to delight in the relief that this is one of the happy endings of the season, you know.
Yeah.
I also thought the, I thought the Quinn factor was a little bit.
It was, like, terrifying for so much of this.
Yeah.
And the fear of him kind of, because there was so much going on.
the fear of him
I didn't this was the one time
I felt like he wasn't scary
he wasn't that scary no
I mean yeah like when he's at the party
and he's doing his thing like it maintains
whatever had been built up to that point for me
but I mean it is it's interesting
I was pondering this because yeah like
it's almost like they took Polly
and made that this sort of like big
physical showdown and it makes sense
because like Quinn is
a snake and he's
got his goons and stuff like that you don't get the sense that he if he was like in a fist
fight with the reacher or something like we would be able to do much or would be like in any way
sort of like outmatching him so like in a sense it it makes sense how this would have been done
like his action of the episode is sort of controlling all the arms of his operation and trying
to burn this thing and get out as quickly as possible but uh yeah i mean for all that has
happened you know especially when it comes to reacher finally cornered
him you know i like that he has to negotiate with the russians and stuff like that but yeah he's he is
like such a sniveler at the end you know like the final confrontation and he does you know it's
it's it says something that now you know backed into a corner no options left he does look terrified
but you know i'm torn because like i i remember what you said about like wishing there was like
an actual remembering of what had happened before going into the finale i like the moment of him
having this recollection when he says
Cole, you know, Dominique Cole's name
and then it all kind of comes back. I thought that was
a cool, you know, sort of
semi-poetic
movie kind of moment.
But yeah, I mean, like, it is
interesting to note that
you could imagine a different
version where there is a more physical
showdown and confrontation, but at the
same time, pragmatically, I think it makes
a lot of sense that he would fight the
number one goon in Polly,
have that be the big sort of physical
blow out and then by the end you know i guess i guess maybe you would just maybe long for a more
robust scene between the two of them in a longer episode because this is like under 50 minutes
um yeah it's about 45 minutes yeah well i i think um for me as an audience member my personal
sensibilities tend to come down to um character interaction and pay off there so if you notice
kind of what i'm talking about it's it is more of like as you get the payoff like for an action
for a character driven action show um you want both you want the action payoffs which is what
i think this episode greatly succeeds in giving you those payoffs because even in the immediacy of
the moment with quinn and the whole thing with the russians like i think that's a great scene
and the immediacy is effective and rewarding and I love the very far away shot when Quinn is killed by the shotgun like that that's a great moment it's upon reflection when I'm like uh well you know we did have like this whole motive for Reacher being I need to get revenge and there's so much emphasis put on that that's this whole driving force here is to
get vengeance and he does it in like a very reacher fashion i find myself like craving in terms of
like pay off uh some of that a more direct interaction between the two of them in some way that
i thought this episode might provide for us and it didn't ultimately provide that you want like
an act acting climax for the two that's yeah yeah yeah and we didn't get that and brian t's presence
has been so formidable yeah i would agree throughout the season that yeah just like i like the idea
of him remembering at the very end and i get why there's a version where it's like he remembers and
then reacher takes him out but also i can imagine a version where that recollection leads to the kind
of like acting crescendo kind of scene this like final direct confrontation before he caps him or something
or yeah or some way where maybe he's got reacher pinned in some way you know yeah um so i do
i do feel like there was not that it's weird like it doesn't feel rushed uh but it does
feel like if there was one more episode they might have been able to flesh out a little bit more
to have these things pay off a little bit stronger um and then i do have a big question mark
about the beck thing with him not having a real gun like i love the i i love the i
like I think that's what I mean like this the scenes are actually what they give us are actually
really good scenes like everything's really good there's nothing there's nothing bad it's
this stuff we didn't get yeah and the the scene and I don't have like a specific scene of like
here's what I feel like they should give us him I'm talking more of like everything around a scene
that I would want every why behind a scene versus a what exactly
um and but there is a big question mark where a guy with guns who doesn't have a single gun to especially
in a situation where shootouts are going and stuff like that and he knows the gun's broken but whatever
like the idea that it was a gun that his son gave him and the tie around to it and if he was able to get
out of the situation via by tricking Quinn yeah i love all that i love that the poetry is good
the poetry is good but the fact that he doesn't have a real gun was was like kind of
surprising to me like they were just at a shootout where like a billion people had guns
yeah it should have been able to have like one gun right
rejagnation i love partnering with brands that i was already using that they get to use

Do it now with Shopify.
Yeah, and I feel like you could have easily fixed that with a moment where somehow we see that, like, oh, he's desperate for a gun, and this is the only option he grabbed.
the toy gun and there's like a brief
moment of like understanding
for him you know the sort of
you can have even all in just a look
you don't have to say anything just that sentimental idea
of like Richie gave me this and this might be
my last chance to save him yeah
because I can't get to a regular gun and yeah
just without that it leaves you the audience member to wonder
like wait a minute though yeah
like I know again
you don't ideally want to be
in a situation where you're sitting
watching going
well I guess I could figure out how he doesn't have
gun but you know it's not definitively in the text of the show so it does it does become i guess a
little bit of a hole as hesitants as i am people over use the phrase plot hole now but yeah but it does
like yeah it does seem like because the poetry is good you want to feel like it was really well
earned and part of me does yeah have that same thought of like i feel like you could have got a real
gun you know as much as reacher should be the one and and has made such an emphasis on needing and
wanting to be the one to kill him.
I feel like that's a place where you could, as an audience member, put up with more mechanics
than the inverse.
You know, it's like maybe he gets the drop on him with a real gun.
And Quinn still finds a way to wriggle out of it.
And that just adds to the formidableity of Quinn.
Yeah.
You know, but, uh, yeah.
One of a few, like that moment kind of reminded me of the moment from the end of the last
episode where we're like, wait a minute, but that, why didn't nearly like say something
about like, what direction the deal caravan is going and why I didn't reach?
you know, to anticipate that maybe there would be a trap here.
It is a couple of those, you know.
It's an instance of a couple of those kinds of moments late in the season,
which is just interesting because like so much of the writing is really smart and conscientious.
And then it makes you wonder, did they just need to cut stuff for time?
You know, did they have like eight and a half episodes worth that they trimmed down to a solid eight?
Why? Why? It's their, it's a streaming show.
doesn't seem like it matters.
Yeah, like the imposition of a of a runtime doesn't seem like a strong...
Or even an episode count.
Yeah, exactly.
I don't know.
It is like curious because, yeah, again, there is so much that's so well thought out and feels very smart.
And then little things like that to stand out.
Yeah.
I don't know what like negative comments.
Anytime we present any criticism to anything, it is met with people who cannot handle it for the life of them.
Sure. I don't know what it'll be met with. But we are just being honest about it. And if you listen to really what we're saying is, is like the only reason we say this is because this show has already, this season in particular has already been so grand. And weirdly, I don't feel like we had any questions or like, huh, why didn't they? Yeah. That kind of mood until these last couple episodes. Which is really like the last 10 minutes of the last episode. And then this episode too.
the last 10 minutes of each yeah so i i don't uh again and it's because i i feel like yeah it's a
great show and and i love a show that can think ahead of its audience and think what might the
audience question and then they they're going to address that and answer that you know and i don't
know what parameter ran into and i'm also of the the mindset as well that the average person who
watches this show will not give a shit in
about some of these things that we're talking about yeah as well and um we do and we're us so we care
yeah because it's like i just would have been that much greater if perhaps some of these other things
might have been uh addressed a little stronger because yeah i think this show exceeds airport
novel i think this show exceeds just dad show like i think it rises above a cliche of that and this
season seemed determined to rise above that right down to duffy i think they hit the nail on the head
with duffy i think duffy's been incredible and i's terrific i love that she got to have the
the breakup goodbye yeah i didn't even fully like when he said it i was like oh damn you're right
you're right she did take your monologue yeah yeah no oh you didn't pick up on that that was so
i was just so caught up in the moment that it's like i thought it was funny because in the back of my
mind i'm like of course you know this is the part where reach was going to have to move on down the
road. But yeah, I was just so kind of charmed and caught up in her performance that once he said it, I was like, oh, duh, of course. Yeah, which is, which is an instance where you feel like the inspiration, like that's a bit of an inspired choice. And it's a credit to every faculty of the scene at hand that, yeah, that I was just kind of caught up in it. You know, sometimes it's like you're jazzed by what they're doing on screen and then you can anticipate. And sometimes you're so jazzed that you're not even anticipating. You're just kind of in it. Yeah. You're just zoned in. And as a season as a whole, I think,
like the poly um fight is emblematic of it is this is the first season that i don't know there's
something so perfect about season one outside of the fact that you never feel like reachers
in danger but it's the one season that can get away with it yeah because it's still so
fascinating it's still so compelling even though you're like yeah this guy's never really
hit danger yeah no one's going to get the drop on him for reals yeah yeah
yeah yeah exactly like he's smarter than everyone and he's stronger than everybody it's like no problem for this guy um but part of that is the the fish out of water and you as an audience member being like everyone else being mesmerized of who this individual is yeah and this season doesn't um use that motif uh you even get characters who are like like duffy who who just treat him like he's normal versus being like wowed by the reacher
Yeah, of him.
I've met guys like you before.
Yeah, while still preserving the recharisms throughout the show and making the character, you know, really being demonstrative of why he's so great.
As a character, this is the first season where I was like, this feels suspenseful, this feels intense.
Yeah.
And I love that reacher was really in dangerous situations.
I love the cascading.
I love the imploding.
I like everything about this as a season kind of hit all these like check marks.
So I would really need a rewatch season.
I think for sure it's way better than season two to me.
But I don't need to rewatch season one to really know if I prefer this over season one.
I'm fascinated to do the same because part of me almost feels like in some ways they in my mind at this moment kind of balance out because I'm like, yeah, this added some things that I think are really fun that add to the tension that play off of season one and season two.
but you know add a certain layer of intensity but there are a couple gripes i don't remember having
quite as much uh that aren't you know like again big important things they're not really taking away
from the show these are still like two like incredibly quality you know well written well-conceived
seasons as far as i'm concerned and so yeah now i'm curious to go back to the minutia because it's
like a matter of that to me at least in hindsight of season one and in hindsight of what we just
experienced in season three i'm like they would be neck and neck because they were both really
exhilarating and they both have that quality where you're like, I see how this came out of an airport
novel and it feels like it is elevating that, you know, that much further, that much higher into
something that, yeah, is enjoyable and it has all the tropes that you like, but also, you know,
is able to take you for an actual tense, mysterious ride. And I think this season, especially
in an age where, you know, people always clown on like Fast and Furious movies because everybody's
got contracts where they can't, you know, have a certain amount of hits or look, you know, like they're
losing a fight or blah blah and i like that alan richson who seems already like a kind of self-deprecating
guy is willing to do a season like this because i think after you know a couple seasons it was really
helpful for this to put him in a bunch of situations where he doesn't look like he feels in control
he's having to work extra hard at certain times he looks a little scared or or at least like he
has sort of been caught up in the moment of like oh damn i'm not actually in control as i'm used to
being and the season did a really good job of building up all of the different
kinds of tension kind of through him and then through you know sort of contrast from other
characters perspectives or just like based on what we know the fact that reacher takes this
guy Quinn so seriously like that tells us something and yeah they did a lot of like really
great building up thematically and just you know the just the aura of the danger and the certain
characters who are especially formidable or even i mean a character like teresa like so much of
hers built up off screen. We have this idea of her in our heads before we ever even see her.
And I think like that. And two, like you pointed out with the party going down in these different
overlapping vignettes, I feel like they took what could have been a, I can imagine a much more
straightforward version of this. And I feel like the way they diversified who in the ensemble
takes what and what kind of scenes that leads to and what kind of action and payoffs we can
get out of all those different things made for a fun variety that feels very much like a
reacher centered piece while also
still having an ensemble vibe and I feel like
that is part of what season two tried to do was
have it be reacher but also
an ensemble and I feel like it was kind of a little
muddy in that mixture whereas this feels
really much like it is both
you know
yeah overall I love the season
I love the show
I think this was a really good
television and
I had a fun time with it had a really fun time
and yeah
I would get this finale
like a
I just had a pure enjoyment level
I'd give it like an 8.5
8 reaches out of 10
yeah I think out of it just a pure enjoyment level
you know like in a reflective period
I'm like a 7 and a half more
but on the immediacy of just watching
a fun finale I would give like an 8.5
yeah that's a litmus test one
like in the moment if you're just like yes
and you want to clap at the end
yeah that's good and then yeah you can go back
and kind of chew over the technicalities after
Yeah.
But, of course, like any good YouTuber would say,
I'm going to throw the question to you guys.
Hey, what do you think of the episode?
Are you satisfied with the season finale?
What do you want to see season four?
Go next for Reacher.
Have you your thoughts on low?
What book do you want them to adapt next to?
What part of the country should he go to?
What a woman should get?
Collect all four.
I think he should be paired up with a transgender moment next time.
That would be cool.
That could be cool.
Or like a really old lady.
I would love to see if, like, completely outspoken,
Alan Rixon can totally divide his audience even for.
Main stage it right here.
He's a very outspoken individual.
Oh, my God, yeah.
He just goes up beating transphobes in season four.
That would be so funny.
There's no central villain.
It's just the idea of prejudice.
Punching every transphobe he can define.
Oh, that would be so funny.
Anyway, guys, thank you so much for being here.
and we will see you guys next time.
Peace.
