and we use those questions to do our review portion of things.
So we will be getting to those questions momentarily.
Did I see that we have them or do we not have them?
We do have them.
Okay, good.
We will be getting to those questions.
But before we do that, let me just talk about in general,
how did you feel about the different,
between the Resident Evil movies we've seen
because it was like night and day
tonally and how do you feel about Welcome to Raccoon City?
You know what? I enjoyed it. I think the
makeup was good. It was a bit of a slow
slower burn than I think
I think the makeup was good.
It was a bit of it was more of a slower burn than any of the
than the rest of them. I am missing
a little bit of that, those action sequences that we used to get with Ho Ho.
But I did like all of the new actors in this.
Like I thought they were grounded, believable.
I've seen someone before good times.
I like that we still got some civilian survivors.
I was a little curious if we were going to get more of a background on our girl and the brother.
Yeah.
In regards to how she became such a badass, which we didn't get that.
Why was she so good with guns?
Yeah.
Like we didn't really get that.
But we got a good enough explanation, which I liked of like, well, I grew up fast.
I get that.
But there was a lot of cool, like, explosions, which I really like.
That was a lot of fun.
Yeah, I liked it.
It's not one of my favorite ones, but it's still like a good.
like fun movie, you know?
And I could tell very much that it was video game-esque,
especially when there's a POV of the lighter in frame,
and then you cut back to him or whatever.
And I was like, oh, that seems like it would definitely be a video game
where you have the lighter and then it's black.
And all of a sudden a zombie comes up on the screen
or something scares a crap out of you.
So, yeah, I'd be more curious, I think after I play the games
to then be like, oh, this was really like the video game,
which I think would make it extra exciting.
But although I thought everyone in this did a good job,
like good performers, which is good times.
I feel like there hasn't been a Resident Evil movie so far
that we just really couldn't stand.
And we had heard that this franchise had some stinkers
and so far it hasn't.
Yeah.
But this is a very different, like watching all of those backers.
to back with this is interesting because it's very different tonal.
Different tone.
This one is so, like, 2020s.
And those ones felt, even though they were 2010s, they felt like 90s, almost.
Agreed.
And like a fun different.
This felt like it was looking to start a brand new franchise.
And unfortunately, I don't think that it's going to do that because we're getting a new
Resident Evil movie this year, but it's got a completely different cast in it.
So I feel like this did a really good job of setting us.
Like if I knew there was going to be a second of this,
a third of this,
I would feel like this was a great introduction.
I agree.
Because they survived.
Yeah.
And the questions that you're asking,
like,
I want to know more about Claire and Chris's relationship.
Exactly.
Like they didn't speak for the last five years.
Right.
What happened when they,
why she's so good at shooting guns.
Yeah.
Now that we lost Wesker's character,
are Jill and Chris going to get together?
Leon, like, was that story about his dad
and shooting his cop, buddy in the ass?
Is that real or not?
Right.
We brought this little daughter with us.
Like, do we kind of, like, end up adopting her
and she becomes like our kid?
Right.
I just think that this did a really,
like, if this was a television show,
this was an excellent pilot.
Agreed.
If this was a franchise, it was great.
But for a full, complete story,
it's a bummer that we won't ever get the answers
to any of our questions.
Yeah, I'm with you on that.
And I like these performers a lot.
Like especially they're all great.
Hannah John Kamen, the girl who played Jill.
I think she's amazing.
The girl, Kyah, the reason I recognized her was because she was in the maze runner movies.
And I forgot that she's Teresa from the maze runners.
Yeah.
But I know a lot of them.
Neil McDonough is the one.
I was like his name Malcolm because I was thinking of Malcolm McDonough.
But whatever.
Yeah.
And he was great.
Just great, great performances.
Really interesting world.
Like what they did.
Just bummed that this is one of one.
I agree.
because it was really great spooky characters,
especially friend, scared the hell out of me.
What a great design.
But I want to know more about friend.
Me too.
Why was she saving us?
And friend just stays living there and friend lives below because of the experiments.
But so what happens with friend?
Exactly.
We want to know more about friend.
And then obviously with the venom-looking one,
that was super cool looking.
And then the design on him at the end,
eyeball man, was also super dope.
So there was a lot of really great design in this too.
But yeah, I'm with you of like it would be fun if this was carried on.

Let's get to some Patreon questions and see what you guys want us to talk about.
Let's do it.
Jay N. Gwynne.
Jane Gwynn says,
Hey, Shea Dex.
Hey, Jane Gwyn.
I hope you enjoy the journey through the Resident Evil movies.
I'm curious, though, how Raccoon City felt for you after watching the Alice movies,
given that Raccoon City is closer in the atmosphere to the games than the previous
ones looking forward to the next journey.
Yeah, we kind of just talked a little bit about this, but I agree that we haven't played
the games yet.
We heard that this is closer.
And I could see why, like, this did feel like one game.
This felt like a game.
It felt like there were different levels and different characters and side pieces and whatever it was to keep you guessing.
And moments like when the helicopter crashes into it.
Yeah, cool.
That feels like it's pulled straight from a game.
Totally.
Or the gas tank semi just crouched right in front of the police department.
That was cool.
I wonder how would we have felt if we watched this not back to back with the Atlas movies?
Like if this was our introduction to Resident Evil,
because I'm sure it was for some people.
Yeah.
How drastically would it have changed it for you?
You know, we fell in love with Ho Ho.
Yeah, exactly.
So if I didn't have all of that action,
fight choreography, maybe from the other movies,
then, I mean, I still like this movie.
And there's still zombies and really cool demons.
But yeah, it's definitely a different taste.
I think it's because Ho-Hovic brought so much fight choreography and badassery to the screen
and within the Resident Evil Stories that, yeah, it's a different vibe.
Yeah.
I don't know how I would have.
I think I would have had fun and been like these demons are super cool looking.
One thing I think is I'm glad that Alice wasn't in this one.
Like I'm glad that they didn't take that character because if she's not in the video games,
it would have been weird for us to then cast her in this.
Yeah.
And Claire was my favorite character from the other movies.
so I'm glad that she's so center of this.
So that's got clear.
All right, Leon O3.
This movie tried to adapt the first game.
The Spencer Mansion storyline with Chris, Jill, Barry, and Wesker with the second game,
which is Raccoon City, Claire, Leon, William Burkin.
However, the studio really screwed over the director, who is a big RE fan by cutting the budget
when in turn meant that his vision is not fully presented.
It is not his fault that many plot points went nowhere, as this was intended to have more sequels.
following the rest of the gains,
but this failed financially.
I wonder what was the most interesting
lore aspect, monster character,
or story element that was presented
in this reboot timeline for you,
Bull. Yeah, I think that the budget on this
was like 25 mil, and for a movie
of this size with this kind of franchise,
it is interesting also, like,
the actors that were cast,
it's like a, mostly television actor,
or like, not like a big, big,
name.
And also, I feel like I can tell there are certain things that, like, there almost could have
been 20 more minutes in the movie to kind of give us a little bit more backstory and all
of the stuff.
Yeah.
I don't want to say that they screwed him over, but I will say, I think that he, not just because he's
my friend, if you see, like, Prime 8 or 47 meters down or some of the things he's done,
he is very good at, like, bringing something to life for a smaller budget.
So I don't know.
Like, let's get to the part that asks about the most interesting lore aspect of this.
I know that we talked about friend a little bit.
Yeah.
We liked the eye.
I want to know more about the eyeballs on the monster.
Like, why is your little those eyeballs?
Yeah.
Character-wise, we wanted more about the siblings.
Yeah, we did for sure.
I like the story element with the doctor.
Obviously, they're experimenting on the kids.
the orphanage, some of those, the demons and stuff.
And yeah, we can see that at the end that it was intended to probably have a sequel
because there's people who survive and are welcome to Raccoon City, right?
So, yeah, that sucks.
He didn't get his full vision there, but still good time.
Brandon M. Hi, Shee-Jex.
I've absolutely been loving your reaction to the series and hope that you're both doing great.
I think I would say we're doing.
We're doing.
Tara and I are always.
We share brain.
This film is much closer
to the horror tension and style of the games,
but still isn't 100% accurate.
And some characters portrayals,
especially being quite off.
But I wanted to ask,
what did you think of the film
compared to the much different action-oriented
Alice films?
You've seen sending much love from Australia.
We already kind of talked about this,
Brandon, because it was asked by somebody earlier.
And we thought that they were different.
We previously watched the most recent Alice won final chapter.
To me that was a lot scarier in some ways.
But this one looked freakier.
Like the actual design of the monster was way freakier in this one.
I agree.
Especially when friend is revealed, very spooky in the orphanage,
but also when she's in her little tent with her doll,
it's scary as hell.
And when venom comes up.
Yeah, eyeball venom.
like gnarly.
Really cool portrayal of a lot of characters that seem very video game-esque,
even if it's not 100% accurate because we obviously haven't played the games yet.
I still think that it was awesome to see.
And yeah, sure, we're missing the Alice action part of it.
But if this is closer to the games, then I assume a lot of the video game players are like,
oh, but finally closer to the.
the game because apparently Alice
who's only what we would know
in thinking Resident Evil
apparently was a made up character.
We never would have guessed that if you guys hadn't told us in the comments.
We were shocked by that.
Never.
Tara.
Yeah, should I just do the trivia one?
No. That he did, okay.
Whatever.
Jaden Rhodes. This movie
is just awful. This is the closest
to the video games. The movies have gone.
It takes the first two games
and just mushes them together.
which I think is a very bad idea.
They should have just focused on one of them.
But I'm curious if you all liked a movie,
how does it do when comparing to the Alice movie?
You guys really...
You're all asking the same question, which is totally fine.
It's totally fine.
We've answered that.
We don't know about the two games and mushing them together.
I think the biggest, like, wins in this movie
are how cool the characters are.
And if that's what you see in the video game,
that's a lot of fun.
There's explosions and zombies and great makeup.
And, you know, I didn't, I truthfully didn't find this to be awful.
I found it to be a pilot.
Like, I found it to be the beginning.
I just think it's such a bummer.
Like, I would have liked to live with these characters for longer.
I agree.
And it did, it did feel TV-esque when we were watching it because I was kind of feeling like, oh, the slow burn is like as if I was watching it on Netflix.
And there was multiple, there was a lot more to come.
That's how I felt.
And especially when we got those four characters coming out of the train station, that's a lot of fun.
That just goes like, cool.
Now where are we going to take this story?
But five of them, right?
Because it's the newbie, the siblings, the girl and.
Yeah.
Wasn't there one more?
There is another one.
There was five.
Who's the fifth one?
The newbie, the siblings, the girl.
And oh, then the two girls, Claire and Jill.
Yes.
And Leon.
Right.
Okay.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
I was like, I know that there was five.
I can visually picture it.
But Jaden also said that he had some trivia for us.
He said, fun fact, the director, it's so crazy because it's like my dude every time I read the director.
The director's movie directed another movie called Primate earlier this year.
At a film festival, he said he hopes the film would make people forgive him for Resident Evil, which most people did.
Primate is a way better movie.
I highly recommend it.
It's a very fun movie.
I agree.
I love Primate.
I think it's fucking fantastic.
It was so much fun to watch.
Leave it in the comments if maybe you want me to watch it.
Maybe Roxy could watch it with me, but she wouldn't, she wouldn't like, you would love it.
It's wild.
But like, we could still probably watch together.
I have not seen it, so I would, I would love to watch it.
I think that would be fun.
I don't think that they would put me on it, but I'm sure there are people here haven't watched it.
And you guys would have, like, it's probably fun, right?
It's a blast of a movie.
Yeah, he's like.
And then I'll let you know if I forgive you for this movie.
No, but I didn't.
didn't hate this one. He's super British and like dry humor. I'm not surprised. Oh, I love that.
Like that. Yeah. He, like, and also I think directors at this point, like, they're all aware of the reception of their movies. Of course. Of course. Yeah. To go from like, obviously people were obsessed with the 47 meters down movie and people were obsessed with primate to have this in the middle. Yeah. You know. But I, I, it was better than I actually expected to be based on the kind of reception that I've heard about this. And based on the fact that he couldn't make all of his decisions. I talk about that a lot. That. That
when it's written and directed by the same person tends to do better,
but when it's not also produced by that person,
those producers have a lot of pull on the money
and exactly what you want to do and how you want it to be shot.
Well, and this is a studio film, this franchise.
Like, this is a temple.
It's not just individual producers.
It's...
It's a lot of...
It's a lot of...
It's, you got to talk to the CEOs up there
that make decisions based on numbers
instead of story and or performance and stuff like that
or how it's going to look.
So you end up having to make sacrifices.
So if that's what he had to do,
I get why he's like,
I hope that my next movie,
I get to make all the decisions.
And I hope you got to with primate,
which is probably why people love it.
Terrifying one.
Yeah, let's do.
Final one, Brian N. M.
So it's fun fact about the film
is that Capcom actually allowed
the filmmakers to use blueprints
of the original games reference
to create the location of the movies
accurately as possible.
Yeah, I think they really,
really cared about this being accurate
to, because I think the big critiques
from the Ho Ho-Ho Which ones.
Yeah, so probably that was like the main focus
of starting this franchise.
But when a movie doesn't make money, then they
cut it, you know? And so, well,
I don't think we'll ever know what exactly
it will be, but what we will see
and why we've been doing all this is we've been
leading up to the Zach Cragor movies,
which I'm really interested
about when I'm looking on IMDB,
obviously we've, I
saw a trailer for this, but Austin
Abrams, Paul Walter Houser, Zach Cherry, a lot of faces that we know and love, but I don't know
who they're playing.
Like, I don't know if it has nothing to do with any of the things that we've seen so far or
if it's relevant to it.
Right.
I'm really, really excited to see what he can do with these movies.
You and I are a fan of his and look forward to watching kind of what he does next.
He's done some very creepy things.
For sure. Barbarian was wild.
And so was weapons.
Yeah.
I wonder how hard.
I wonder how hard they will lead, lean into the horror with it for the next iteration of this franchise.
So we look forward to doing that with you and we look forward to hopefully playing the games with you guys.
If there's another franchise, you want to see the Sheeject's cover, make sure you leave that.
And in the comments, yeah, word.
The word.
The word is friend.
Of that.
Right, friend.
If you don't know, that's what we do.
If you made it this far on the video.
Yeah.
You got to sink the word friend into your comment for us to know you were there the whole time.
I read all of them.
You're a she-jacks.
That makes you a she-jerk baby.
Yeah.
All right, much love, and we will see you next time.
Later, Rejects.
