This video is brought to by Mando.
Their products are revolutionary and personal care.
are offering up to 72 hours of odor control.
Seriously, I love them.
More on them after the reaction.
Okay, are you ready to go into the world of Rio?
Oh, I'm so ready.
Let's do this thing.
Whoa.
That was a fun one.
That was a fun little animated little joint, a little family movie.
Absolutely a fun one.
And you know what else is fun?
Is when you leave five stars on Apple or Spotify,
Where if you happen to be listening to this,
if you listen to it in pod, it cast form.
And as well, if you would like to be almost as drippy
as that one smuggler guy,
why'd you come on over to rejectnation shop.com?
Tees like these are available there,
along with a whole bunch of other delightful designs
that Greg and his sister have been cooking up.
We got the brandest, newest X-Men 97 inspired.
That's right.
You know, to me, my walkman, that's the pun.
I got to remember the names.
But we got a whole bunch of stuff.
New designs dropping all the time.
So if you want to represent the channel and support in the process,
that's a good place to do that.
But anyhow, Rio.
Rio.
What did you think?
I had fun.
I had fun.
It was cute, you know.
It was definitely a colorful movie.
It was interesting because it wasn't like a straight-up music.
but it had a lot of like fun little musical moments in it yeah yeah i thought the way that we got
to see this character's arc of blue going from this scared timid bird who's kind of codependent
to like learning the sense of literal freedom and independence by being able to fly i thought that
was a cool little arc for him and just the journey of getting to explore this this setting and
these different characters within the setting i thought it was a little fun time man what don't you what do you think
As a sequel to City of God, this was really, really on the point.
You know, I feel like this carried the themes along really naturally.
And I didn't even notice that they recast everybody.
No, no, it was seamless, actually.
Yeah, definitely.
No, I had a really great time with this.
This was fun.
And, I mean, you know, this was, I remember roughly when this was coming out and I didn't really think that much of it.
But, yeah, I mean, as both just a fun animated adventure with a lot of punch and a lot of energy,
I thought this moved really nicely.
I enjoyed pretty much everything from front to back.
Like, it caught me during that opening, you know, sort of montage, I guess you'd call it,
where, you know, we see, we get the bedrock of music that's going to underlie the whole movie.
And then we get, you know, the quick story of how Blue came to be with Linda.
And from there, I was like, oh, you know, this is actually, like, nicely kind of balanced.
and it's moving quick and it's bright and all that stuff.
But it also just continually drew me in and got me in the feels and whatnot.
And it was really fun, but also made for like a really neat little travelogue.
Like, again, even though this is an animated movie or not actually, you know, seeing the photography of Brazil necessarily, you are seeing stuff that seems lovingly, you know, rendered out of reality.
And, yeah, like, I had no idea that that was.
You know, I didn't know the title was so literal in that we're going to Rio and we're going to, you know, where this bird originally came from.
And to start from a place where you are like, oh, yeah, we're used to seeing birds of all kinds here in the States.
You can get any number of birds as a pet, you know, of some variety.
And so they all come from somewhere and they're not all native to here.
So it was kind of interesting that they went with an angle of like you have bird smugglers.
and and you know like that's kind of part of what led him set his journey off in the first place
and then it's a huge part of the rest of the movie once they actually get to Rio and that whole idea of like
oh you're the last two of the species and you know we need to repopulate or we want to try and save
the species from going extinct like all those different little elements working together
I thought made like the story interesting enough and then yeah just the characterizations the
animation, the brightness and the beauty of a lot of the colors and the lighting and stuff
like that. Yeah, just, especially because like, yeah, blue sky, I guess isn't really around
anymore or they got folded into something else. But I was really kind of dazzled by this and I
loved looking at it. Obviously, I really appreciated the artistry and the music, because I didn't
know what to expect in terms of whether it would be a jukebox musical of songs we recognize.
And certainly there are nods to certain recognizable, you know, pieces.
like the girl from Ibenima and stuff like that.
But I feel like, you know, it seemed like they did a fair amount of like original songwork for this.
And to have that in, you know, the tradition of Samba and Basanova and a little bit of Brazilian funk in there and stuff like that.
I just thought it was like, yeah, it was so many things that I wasn't expecting.
And it was like cool to take a trip and do something different, culturally speaking, in a movie that is, you know, just aimed wide and for families and all that stuff.
It's just like said, so many more details and fun choices, you know, than I was expecting, you know.
I guess, I don't know.
It's easy, I think, to look at any number of animated movies and expect, like, oh, this will be pleasant for kids and whatever.
But, yeah, this actually kind of gripped me.
And, yeah, I was quite enthralled.
Yeah, I think it was a very well-made movie in the sense that, what, this movie is like an hour and a half.
And I feel like its pacing was very quick, very sharp with it.
And, you know, we're in that last 10 minutes or so where they start with the float.
I'm like, okay, I know kid movies or this movie is like an hour and a half.
I think I'll wrap this up so quickly.
But the way they did it didn't feel rushed at all.
It felt very organic.
And, you know, these characters start in Minnesota.
And we see their journey and their experiences through the course of the film when they eventually end up in Rio and living there.
And, you know, I think in another movie, they would want to spend more time letting that whole thing breathe.
But I feel like this movie gave us just enough to be able to feel satisfied with those
characters' choices.
Like, you read between the lines, you get the gist of it.
I think that's a sign of a well-made movie where you can imagine more that's being
had in between these scenes or post these scenes.
But I think having it just spelled out enough for you and letting it breathe in that, I think
that was very, very efficient.
And both as, you know, people who are writing the story and for families and for
audiences in general.
Something I would think was really cool that part of me, not that I feel like left
out, but I could acknowledge it as we're watching it is the fact that there's a lot of
segments that were designed to be in 3D.
And I think it would have been really cool to kind of explore that, especially that one
scene where they're, I think like they're going through the city and then like it showed,
the birds like come really close to the camera, like their beaks and like it bounces back.
And just a number of scenes like that.
I like seeing all of the supporting cast.
I think like this entourage of bird characters that we got to spend some time with
a really cool.
And the dog.
And the dog, you know, and seeing all of their different personalities kind of come to play
into this.
And they're all in support and rooting for Jules and Blue to get together.
And yeah, I think the voice work was great too.
You know, Jesse Eisenberg really fit that character very well.
Same thing with Ann Hathaway.
I forgot it was in Hathway, who was the bird for like up until it showed it at the credits.
I'm like, oh, wow, yeah.
No, they really killed it.
Yeah.
And I just, I liked watching their chemistry unfold because they were coming from two different places.
You know, he was a bird from captivity.
She wanted nothing but freedom and them having to learn from each other over the course of the movie
and realizing like, oh, I can't do everything on my own or there's still stuff I have to learn,
which makes for a great counterbalance for a couple, but just like two leads.
of a movie as well and yeah I think the way that they were able to have that play to a younger
audience while finding the authenticity in that where adults can resonate with it as well I think
it's very clever on the filmmakers part yeah yeah because there's kid movies right and there's
family movies and I feel like this definitely falls more into the family movie category especially
with like some of its jokes and like the the music is very entertaining now it's like it's one
of those movies where it's like yeah are the songs necessary not necessary
they don't like they they provide a fun exposition or like move the the plot along in a way that
um allows us to have like a tune to go along with it like the the song for uh nigel like and giving
his backstory was fun and the the song jimmy fox did were like the they're uh almost like
they kiss the girl moment where like yeah kind of like screwing it up i thought those moments were
fun and I wonder if this was something that was like really popular like were kids like
mom play the the Rio soundtrack like did they have that similar effect to Frozen for the kids back
then because I wasn't really tapped in when this movie came out in like 2011 yeah I'm curious
about that because like the songs were good they were catchy you know I'm gonna go listen
that Jamie Fox song because that was it was a good time yeah well and it made sense too because
again I mean every culture has music but I feel like
you're going to Rio
and I feel like there is just such an association
with the music of that culture in particular
and in that part of the world
music seems like a very
you know a very sort of like
a forefront part of
just the social interaction
I guess you know and you know there are a lot
of signature styles of dance
and music that coincide and so like
you know being that yeah
these two at least blue and
Jewel, you know, originate from here.
It seems like having an intrinsic musical element makes some kind of sense to me.
And, yeah, I like what you said about it being more of a family movie than just a straight
kids movie because, like, it has a good sense of momentum.
But it was always like, I feel, it never felt like it was rushing.
Like, you, I guess you could do more to develop, like, the actual romantic connection between
Blue and Jewell, but I didn't really need that here because, again, like, the way the adventure was unfolding and the way they were balancing out the A and B plot with Blue and Jewel and then Linda and Tullio, I thought was really fun because, you know, they're similar and you can kind of tell that, oh, yeah, like, they're probably all going to end up together in one way, shape, or form at the end.
And I like that, you know, you have these slices of life in real, like, as much as there's always that sense of, like, we've got to get back, you know, Blue really wants to get back to Linda.
and Jewell just wants to be free and fly.
Like everyone's got somewhere to go, their goals,
but like along the journey,
while the journey never like stops, you know,
to like do a scene and then move on.
Like there's always momentum happening,
but you still get slices of life within that.
I thought it balanced those things quite nicely,
and it's like you start out in that place
where especially you were commenting during the reaction
when Linda and Blue were sitting in the doorway,
you know, kind of contemplating the situation
and whether they should go,
off to Rio and try, you know, this repopulation effort for the species of macaws.
Like, you know, there's really, there was something about even just a little moment like that
where I was like, wow, I am actually endeared to the characters and not just caring because
it's appealing in general.
Like, it found ways of actually characterizing and endearing me while also still never
losing its sense of fun or momentum.
And, yeah, again, I would be curious for anybody who does live in Brazil, who is.
you know, from this area of Rio, you know, how authentic it reads, but certainly feels that way from
this vantage point. And the incorporation of Carnival as a big element and culminating everything
there, I thought was really fun. And, and again, like, you know, I've got at least a couple, I have
a friend out in Brazil who I talk to pretty regularly. And, you know, Carnival is, you know,
something that we have, you know, sort of discussed and a part of culture that has been sort of shared
my way. And so, yeah, it was kind of neat to see a movie like this that doesn't have to have
a cultural element like that, but that does heavily indulge in it without, you know, making
it distracting or, I don't know, just, yeah, I thought every element they had here was
nicely brought together. And, yeah, it's like the musical stuff was a nice surprise. And, you know,
the madcap, you know, humorous stuff was a nice surprise. But ultimately, by the end, yeah, I was, I was
really on board for everyone's little arc and journey. And yeah, I was glad, you know, I think the way it wraps up is real nice. It's like you see the two little families starting. And I think that's what I was thinking of too. It's like that moment in the initial scenes where they are sort of like, you know, confronting the fact that this is a big deal. This is, you know, a big responsibility, big change. We're going to go out here. We're going to try and mate you with this other bird. You're like, you know, we're going to uproot our lives in Minnesota, which is like so far.
removed from the world of Rio de Janeiro, you know, like, there are moments where you are sort of
torn where you're like, well, you know, I don't really know Jules, so I kind of want him to get back
to Linda. But the more time he's spending with Jule, the more I'm like, oh, damn, I kind of want
them to end up together. But then he really wants to get back to Minnesota, and I kind of want
that for him. But then, well, maybe they all do belong here. And then finally, by the end, you know,
they seem to have all, you know, shacked up in Rio. And, yeah, all those elements I thought,
you know, made for a very engaging and very active watch, I guess.
And yeah, nice voice work from the cast, nice animation.
Really beautiful to look at, I thought.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was surprised.
There's another one of those animated movies lately where I've been surprised like,
wow, that was really lovely.
And I would love to watch that again.
And I think there was a sequel.
I would love to watch the sequel.
Yeah.
You know, and I don't feel like this begs for a sequel,
but I would happily watch more.
Definitely, yeah.
I'm very curious to see what these characters.
go, they did a good job of endearing us in such a short period of time, especially with those
montages, because all those montages were killer and effective. And the music, not only just the
musical numbers, but the soundtrack, and the score was really heartwarming and endearing as well.
Yeah. And two, just to cap it, I like also that they did bother to, it's weird. I kept joking about
City of God, but like you do have a subplot involving, you know, animal smugglers, which is a real thing.
There are, you know, birds and various other creatures brought illegally all over the world, you know.
And so, again, to have a family-oriented movie that encompasses that or involves that, you know, in a way that isn't too in your face and it's not too harsh, but it does get to the reality of, like, you got all these birds cooped up in these tiny cages.
And then you've got the one, like, Uncle Tom bird who's, you know, helping out with the whole thing.
Like, yeah, it didn't get too grim or too like, oh, who's this for?
same time, I was like, wow, you know, you didn't really have to do. And the kid, like, has
nobody and is in with these criminals, you know, just out of circumstance. And something like
that. I was like, again, I'm sort of reminded of, you know, the harsher realities that do exist
and that, you know, in the version that they exist in this part of the world. And yet, you know,
it's still complementary. Like, there's still a dose of reality, but without having to get too
dower about it because this isn't exactly the place to do that.
Right.
So, yeah, and two, you know, there's also just, like, the culture of dress and of celebration
and of pageantry is different, too.
So, like, by the end, I was a little surprised when they were in the bird costumes, when
Linda and Tulio are in the bird costumes, because I am like, you know, it's a part of the
world, too, where it's just more natural to show more skin, basically, in a way that isn't
like lurid you know and isn't like like there's that one shot where someone bounces off a bikini
clad butt that like is like okay lad but like for the most part you know it's like you have these
these women in these different like very garish very sort of you know pageant like outfits and whatnot
and yeah like that's also seemingly authentic to you know the celebration and stuff that yeah like
I could imagine, you know, a more conservative viewer clutching pearls and being like,
oh, like, smut for children.
But, you know, like, I appreciate those details because they do encompass a slightly different
sensibility and they didn't seem to be used in a way that was, like, icky or anything like
that, you know.
Rejectation, some of you guys have been so kind of point out, Greg, you look like
you've been getting in better shape lately.
And Greg, you look like you've been pointing that out a lot more than we've been
pointing that out lately.
That's because I've been getting products that have allowed me to.
casually mention that. But with all that exercise comes a lot of sweat, and let's be honest.
Nobody wants to smell bad, especially when we're in close quarters filming proximity to one another.
That's why I've been using the Mando products.
Heard a lot about them, and I was like, please send them my way.
And as a vegetarian, it makes me so happy that they are all natural.
Their high quality, and man, do they get the job done?
First up, the Mando Whole Body. There's a little hair here.
Ew, that's gross.
The Mando Whole Body Deodorant.
It's safe to use anywhere.
Why wouldn't it be its deodorant?

The cream is perfect for intense workouts.
It keeps it dry, smelling great, without residue.
My wife finally holds hands with me in public.
This one, straight out the shower.
The Mando Acidified Cleansing Bar.
It's fantastic.

face wash, body wash, and deodorant.
It leaves my skin fresh and clean,
and my wife finally lets me shower in the same shower she uses.
I don't have to go to the hotel anymore.
For quick refreshes, the Mando deodorant wipes.
Perfect for on the go, gentle on the skin.
And my wife finally let me meet the in-laws after using them.
And lastly, the Mando body wash.

Or did she call me Stephen?
That was gross.
That was my father's name.
That was good, man.
Yeah, I would have liked to have explored more of Carnival and see that culture.
Because, yeah, I thought it was interesting.
It's something we really don't get here in the States.
And, you know, just living within that color and seeing how the American characters would have, like, interacted with that.
because you know, she's got a girl from Minnesota.
I'm sure she's never even left her state, let alone gone all the way to Rio.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That seems like you also thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thoroughly.
Yeah, yeah.
Did you guys like it?
Let us know in the comments.
You know, what's your favorite thing about Rio if you share some real fact with us?
Or something about birds.
If you happen to be like a bird expert, you know, shout out in the comics because we would love to learn.
We read you guys' comments.
You're an expert.
Expert.
I see what you did there.
I like that.
I like that.
Okay, you guys, we're going to get out of here.
But thank you so much for watching and hope you have a great risk of your day.
Hey, wait, wait, before we go, you want to do a quick patron of the day shot?
Oh, yeah.
Let's do it.
Let's do it, baby.
All right, just real quick.
Patron of the day.
Beautiful.
I accidentally stopped the audio, but it's okay.
It's okay.
We don't stop, and we can stop.
And we won't stop.
actually has the thing I need.
We've done Eric and Chris.
Alright, yeah.
Okay.
Who I'm the good with?
What's that last was in?
was in smackdown
TA. Hey, hey, picture of the day,
shout out.
Gatio Gallindo.
God damn.
Brian Perry,
you're a real one.
Gito Galindo.
How's it going, buddy?
Listen, all right.
You have a very musical
and a rhythmic name,
which makes it seem to me
like you might be the perfect person
to shout out.
on a film like this one.
I mean, I don't know where you're from in the world.
I assume you might be even just from here,
the grander here of the United States,
but I would love if we could take a trip out to visit you,
see what your life is like,
maybe sing a tune together,
maybe do some dancing, see a carnival,
Gito Galindo.
You got any rhymes for Gito Galindo?
I feel like that's a perfect name
to work some bars over.
Gito.
Ooh, he's his valito
He is one of my cool little people
We like to dance and
We go and sing yeah
We like to go and do everything
Now we like to go
And watch videos
We like to eat food
And we like to go flow over beats that we know
We like Kendrick and Drake
Just kidding
We like KDOT
He's trying to work you into the beef, man.
Trying to let it happen.
Don't take the fake it, Gildoindo.
It's probably won't be relevant by the time this comes out.
That's okay.
We're out here.
We're out here.
And we appreciate you for being out here.
You've been with us for a while now.
And we appreciate you sticking around, being dedicated, and being so generous with your time and your heart.
Stay well.
Stay sexy.
And we'll catch you next month.
Love you.
Be well.
Cheers.
Duceus.
Eric Horstman.
I'm going to be able to help out because I totally seen.
You remember the scene in Rio?
Oh, I sure do, John.
Where they dress up in the, like, little showgirl outfit, and they're in the parade.
The birds?
The people who are friends with the birds.
Oh, yes.
They're kind of dressed like the birds.
Yeah, absolutely.
You knew.
If there's anyone.
You beat me to the subtext.
Anyone who's in the bird cage is Eric.
It's, you know what, out of the closet and into the bird cage, I say, because you are the showiest, you are the prettiest bird in all of the animal kingdom, all right? Your plumage, all right?
My feathers ruffled, all right? Your siren song, Eric, is like music to my eardrums. Well, if there's anyone who's good to be friends with birds, it's our vegan friend, Eric.
You're an animal man.
You're a manimal.
And, yeah, you would be one, you would be perfect to join the world of this movie
because it's a movie about not trafficking birds in part.
Partly, it's what I'm not being trafficked as a bird, which, you know, I'm sure you would be supportive.
It's a kid's movie, but the birds do get traffics.
Yeah, everyone, it's a really educational film.
There's a lot of music in it, too.
Yeah, you know, it really portrays Brazil and the best.
light in the, but in the
whimsicalist way. Made by American. And made by
Americans, I assume, I don't know.
Actually, Eric knows. Why don't you
go look up the
IMDB facts that I've forgotten since
watching that film and you can comment them
on this video, create a little bit of engagement.
That's the kind of Twitter.
I want to hear out of you.
My dude. My dude.
My dude. Just once, I want you
to like wrap your bicep
around our necks with your
real rejects tattoo. I'll be so.
Yeah.
