your chesties merch you can get all the other cool things and i got some cool stuff coming on the way so
you're not going to want to miss that okay ah terra think did you love it because i did i did i had a really
good time with it. I had a really, really fun time. It was so fun. Oh my God. This is peak 90s cinema right
here. The pinnacle of the action comedy. Let's put a pause on this. Let's see. We're not trying
to watch whatever this next movie is. I'm trying to enjoy the awesomeness. That is rush hour. Yeah.
Tara, what did you think of it? I loved it. I really, really liked it. I thought it was fun.
I think it's really fun when you get to watch a movie that could never be made today. Of course, there's a lot of
jokes that you're like oh my god okay like so 90s um but uh for the sake of of laughter and fun
it was still like fun like i didn't i didn't feel bad about laughing at some of these like non-PC
jokes i just was like okay this is a good time mainly though i think that the number one thing
that you come here for this film is for jacky chan and all of his fight choreography i mean he
totally steals the show tucker does he's obviously a great
comedian. Great with comedic pacing and tone and like timing. So to have that mix together,
for someone to have the idea, you have to be very specific in casting. So I don't know if
the person writing it had both of their names in their head when they were writing it or
if it was a casting job, but to have Tucker and Chan together. And their chemistry was great.
It wasn't like a fish out of water situation.
It was like that in the beginning, but then they really come together.
And they're almost like two peas in a pod, which is a lot of fun.
But when they become two peas in a pod, I didn't find it not believable.
It all made sense, the way that they took the progression of the story
and the way that you see Jackie Chan move through it with him.
Especially like I called it out during the montage where they're teaching each other,
like how to do the gun thing, right?
And they're kind of like bonding
and they're doing it with that song.
And then that's kind of the moment
that brings them together
right before they go fight together.
And I think he realizes,
I liked that after Jackie Chan was sent away,
I think the thing I liked in the writing
was that Tucker took over the story
of that he started to really care
about the little girl's life.
Whereas before he wouldn't really,
he'd just be like, I want to be FBI, right?
but Jackie Chan rubbed off on him in that way of having
because we hadn't really seen him as like a human
we just seen him as an egotistical kind of a guy
who's this cop so I like that switch in him
and I think that would not have happened without Jackie Chan
so that's where a really great character arc you can see it with him
and that that wouldn't have happened without Jackie Chan's presence in this movie
which is a great how you show a movie how two people change
throughout it and they did and they also saved the girl's lives and I loved it and they become
it's like they become buddies at the end and I love that yeah yeah I think this movie was very
believable having these two very different guys come together it seems like two guys to have no
business in any semblance of the same space uh be able to hold space equally I feel I feel like
they both brought different strengths to their buddy comic their buddy cop dynamic and I
felt that, you know, because normally you have the straight man and you have the more off the
wall one. But it was an interesting kind of thing where they subverted that a little bit, where you
could say that Jackie Chan is the straight man, but he kind of makes up in that by being super
earnest and being super badass. Whereas Chris Tucker is very off the cuff and very funny. So they both
bring different things and they work off of each other really well to make both aspects of
them as individuals work
when the other one is not on screen.
And having them
find a way to work together
surprisingly works
really well and you would think
that it wouldn't. And yeah, kind of to go off
of what you were saying. I don't know if they
were the initial
kind of dynamic what they
pitched with this or they have these two actors
in mind. But I couldn't see another
world where it was somebody other than
these two. Right. And yeah, they
did have a little bit of the fish out of water thing
with Jackie Chan coming to
LA and for what it
seems like that second movie
is going to be Chris Tucker going to China
which that should be fun
whenever we get to experience that
but yeah the mystery
was interesting
and all the action was really
cool and very well shot
just getting to see Jackie Chan
really own
the space that he was in and finding new
creative ways to use
his environment and use his feet to
take down multiple enemies i have like a i've seen jacky chan movies here and there like i mainly
my main experience main kind of exposure to jacky chan isn't even a movie it's the jacky chan
adventures an animated show from when i was a kid and if you guys watch that show let's know down
the comments below because that shit is classic but yeah i've seen like i've have vague remnants
of like tuxedo as a kid never seen these movies um me and terrah watched karate kid and he's
great in that you know this is like what probably like close
to 20 years after that fact he's like he still got it man and i understand why he's a star in his own
right because he just has that perfect balance of of earnestness while having his own brand of comedy
that's not the same brand of comedy as chris tucker because that's like his primary strength in the
film but yeah his earnestness and his action are really what kind of make him such a powerful
movie star and i wonder i understand why he's stood the test of time having those qualities as a performer
Yeah.
It's great.
I feel like it's the story of a disgraced,
disrespected, chaotic cop meeting a very respected, in-control officer,
which would be Jackie Chan,
and how the chaos rubs off on the in-controlness
and how they find a way to meet in the middle.
Totally.
It's like chaos and control, meet in the middle.
That's this story.
And how it progresses.
Like they both need each other to take those.
those big risks in saving the girl and then meeting in the middle is how they get the job done,
which is a lot of fun.
Yeah, and that one scene kind of talked about as it was happening,
like them needing each other, learning from one another without a bunch of exposition or dialogue.
Yeah.
To kind of accompany that with the gun scene and the dancing and the singing.
I'm like, yeah, that's all great, you know.
And I think that's the Pinnacle Bowl, makes a classic movie.
The way that this is able to balance its comedy and its action equally was super impressive
because you don't want it to lean more to one side than the other.
You want to be able to ride that line down the middle.
It had a nice balance.
It did.
And I feel like with the exposition, there wasn't a lot of it really at all.
I mean, even when I was like, traitor, it's not like they really called it out.
Like they're like, ooh, Gentow and it's him.
And all they had to say was like, oh, I remember him from the building, right?
And when the girl disables the bomb, we all have it in.
our head there's a reason they're showing us her failing at the bomb testing that's probably
going to come back if you watch a bunch of movies but if you don't we didn't need to be like
oh don't you take care of bombs like get in this van and do it like you know i don't know there might
be some other movies that might write more exposition into this but like you don't need it you
just need to trust the audience i think they did a good job of trusting us that we would follow along
with the story without all of the the exposition notes and i like that a lot i agree
Yeah, it's a simple story and it's fun.
And I understand why it's a classic.
You know, I would love to see these guys do a bunch more adventures.
I know they've been trying to make, I think there's three rush hours thus far.
And I know they've been trying for years to make a fourth one.
And, you know, if you guys like this and you watch the videos, we'll definitely do more.
And hopefully one day get on that journey to rush hour four if they'd ever decide to rush hour for.
But I think Tara has some.
I have some trivia.
let's read some. The Food Chow is a real restaurant in Chinatown. As of August
2024, there's still sign that states rush hour was shot here.
I love that. Didn't know that. That's amazing. According to the director, Brett Ratner,
this movie was the first movie to be released in the U.S. featuring Jackie Chan in an English-speaking role
without any kind of dubbing. According to Ratner, before this movie, Chan had always had his voice
dubbed over in his English-speaking roles because of his uncertainty.
in speaking the language.
However, Chan spoke in his real voice
for his previous Hollywood films, Battle Creek Brawl,
the Cannonball Run, Cannonball 2,
the protector for this movie.
Ratner claims that to have convinced
him to forego the dubbing,
as it would lend to the authenticity
of his character, which, yeah,
absolutely, I would have hated if it was dubbed.
I don't think the movie would have done as well.
Jackie Chan said that the scene
when his character first meets Chris Tucker's character
was very similar to the first time the actors met
in real life at the offices of the William Morris Agency.
Chan said Tucker was talking so fast that after the meeting ended,
Chan told his manager,
I don't understand any of the words coming out of his mouth,
a line that was used in the film.
I love that.
I'll read like two more.
Jackie Chan was almost killed filming the scene where he's almost crushed by metal boxes.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
They slammed together about a quarter of a second after his head was
clear.
Dude.
That is how much
that guy puts his life
on the line for these stunts.
That is wild.
Like, that's crazy.
Uh, wow.
Chris Tucker improvised
much of his dialogue as he
normally does in his movies.
According to director,
Brett Ratner, during the scene
at Gromons where Detective Carter
bribed Stuckey for information,
there was so much improv
between Tucker and John Hawks that they
almost did not think they could edit it together as a coherent conversation. They probably were
just going back so much. There is still continuity errors in the dialogue for this reason.
Oh my God. I freaking, I love that so much. Maybe let's see if I can possibly find like maybe one
spoiler. Brett Ratner was a big fan of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies. He felt that American audiences
would not be familiar with the jokes in Jackie's other movies
and deliberately reuse some of his gags.
For example, the scene where Inspector Lee accidentally grabs Johnson's
breast is a reference to Jackie Chan's film, Mr. Nice Guy.
So there's some like Easter eggs in them.
Body Count 12, 2 by Carter, none by Lee.
Because he's the good guy.
Yeah, I love that because I think in a lot of his movies,
he's always just not,
it's not the cart so we're okay um i think in a lot of his movies he doesn't and he he just does
all of his stunts but we don't see him actually kill anybody on screen which i love i think it's fun
i love this movie i give a 10 out of 10 it was a blastrooney if there's more great i hope it
i hope it stars them still like don't switch it up on me because i will not be a fan no no we don't
want that.
But anyway, guys, we've had so much fun watching.
I hope you guys enjoyed watching with us.
Let us know what you think down in the comments, and we'll see you guys in the next one.
Looses.
Landon Miller.
Landon, my man.
Boy.
Check this out.
Imagine this.
John has a kid.
Oh, I do.
With a Chinese woman.
I did.
The kid is Chinese.
My Chinese boy.
The kid is then kidnapped.
And then John hires the two best cops in the world, Greg and Landon Miller.
And Landon.
Because Landon Miller, though, oh.
See, I'm the straight shooter.
I'm the guy with the fight on the brute one.
But Landon, he's got corks.
He's got, he's got some eccentric idiosyncrasies, one might say, John.
He's got some unorthodox ideas.
See, like, in interrogation rooms, he's just chipping away at them nuts.
People are like, what are these shells building for?
Any monologues, get you.
You know, he often drives around in a diaper because you lose too much time.
Yes.
Having to stop and go somewhere.
Yeah.
It's the Dwayne Johnson theory.
Can't waste time on that.
No, yeah, there's too much, there's not enough time in the deck.
Landon also has very, very.
fascinating dark interrogation methods does yeah sometimes he takes clothespins to
people's nipples oh the diabolical now it ranges some enjoy others they people love
others really they they give up information right away yeah he doesn't even have to put
the clothespin on but then some turn into lovers that's true that's landing baby you can't
deny the miller that's the land in love once landed lands on you good luck getting out from
sometimes yeah those ways confused people oh they have a word for that but we don't need to acknowledge what that really means nor yeah because that's dark and that ruins the comedy yeah to talk about the implications of what landin really is doing these people at that point keep it fantastic yeah we keep it fun fanciful and fluffy and we don't want to upset people there so yeah landin you continue to keep assaulting people in order for them to fall in love with you and i
I hope he has the strongest bond.
A great Merry Christmas.
Same.
