STILL FUNNY WITHOUT THE WAYANS BROS?! Scary Movie 4 Full Length Watch Alongs & Early Access:   / thereelrejects   Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparrel! https://www.rejectnat...ionshop.com/ Greg Alba & Jackie Bonsignore react to Scary Movie 4, the outrageous horror-comedy sequel that spoofs Saw, The Grudge, War of the Worlds, The Village, and more. Starring Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell and Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, this entry might be the most chaotic and joke-packed movie in the entire franchise. We react to the legendary Saw opening with Shaquille O'Neal and Dr. Phil, Brenda's hilarious return, the Grudge parody, the alien invasion storyline inspired by War of the Worlds, the Tom Cruise & Oprah spoof, the Village twists, and some of the wildest visual gags the series ever attempted. Greg & Jackie also discuss why this one feels stronger than some of the previous sequels and why Regina Hall continues to be one of the franchise's secret weapons. The film stars Anna Faris (The House Bunny, Mom) as Cindy Campbell, Regina Hall (Girls Trip, The Best Man) as Brenda Meeks, Craig Bierko (Cinderella Man, Boston Legal) as Tom Ryan, Leslie Nielsen (Airplane!, The Naked Gun) as President Harris, Bill Pullman (Independence Day, While You Were Sleeping) as Henry Hale, and features memorable appearances from Shaquille O'Neal, Dr. Phil, Michael Madsen, Molly Shannon, Carmen Electra, and more. Starting point is 00:01:23 your podcasts. I love to have fun. All right. Three, two, one. And let's go. Anyway, that's the gist of it. Good stuff, right? Anyway, guys, we just watched the Tom Cruise interview about Oprah and scary movie for. If you want to do syncups with us, you can do that on our Patreon page.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Thank you guys for supporting the Chanel over there. You guys, rock my socks, lock, joc, walk. And Jackie is going to be performing live at the Beacon. June 31st and New York City. So go out there. Yeah. I started doing that. A baby day.
Starting point is 00:02:22 It should be like a rating system. The movie's like, this movie's great. June 31st. So Jackie, we just watched Scary Movie 4. You've seen Saw. And the Tom Cruise interview. And the Tom Cruise interview,
Starting point is 00:02:38 which is probably the highlight. That's what we were really here to watch. Yeah. Should have shown you that beforehand. But then it would have ruined that. That bit was coming. Yes. You saw War of the World.
Starting point is 00:02:47 You've seen the saws. You have not seen the village. You saw a grudge, I think. I saw the grudge like forever ago, so I understood the references. What did you feel? Would you think? Did you like?
Starting point is 00:02:58 Did you dislike? What are your thoughts? Okay. I feel like for the majority of the scary, well, I've never seen all of them, but I had seen like the first and, maybe the second when I was like 12, 13, which I'd mentioned. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And I feel like now watching them actually having seen the source material, it makes them so much funnier. So I think, like, for me, because I am such a big soft fan and because, well, now I'm a huge four of the world's fan, and they're both very fresh on my mind, it made this one my favorite. Oh, wow. I think. I mean, my favorite of the sequels, just to be really clear.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Okay. Number one still, I think, is unopposed for me. Scary movie three? Scary movie one. Scary movie one? That's your favorite. Cool. Why are you surprised?
Starting point is 00:03:56 What happened to your thing? Oh, you threw it off the table. Oh, yeah, that's right. I was really annoyed at your own point. Oh, my God. And I said, yeah, this is revenge. Well, good. I'm glad you like Scary Movie One and this one.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I'm really like you're acting surprised. I'm not. I can act more surprised. My favorite? I would put this number three. I like one two. I like this more than three. I like this more than three comfortably.
Starting point is 00:04:31 I don't imagine that is a common sentiment. However, yeah, there's this one actually felt like it was embracing more of the genres. It was spoofing, you know? Like the three kind of look like an SNL movie where this one. I think had like an actual aesthetic. The guy who plays Tom Ryan, it was hysterical. Like, I thought he was a great addition to this.
Starting point is 00:04:53 You know what I think is interesting now? What? Is that now having watched three and four, I kind of feel like I want to take back some of the things that I said about too. Okay. What do you want to take back? Well, now I like two more. Why? What happened?
Starting point is 00:05:09 What just happened? I think it's like I don't know. It had a lot of the same characters and dynamics from number one, which I did like a lot. Okay. Like I feel like if I read,
Starting point is 00:05:26 I just really love Cindy and Brenda together. And I feel like we get the most of that in number two. Yeah, we do. I think so. I think that's, I think that's a correct assessment. You know, I feel like the character, I mean,
Starting point is 00:05:37 the character dynamics are just so concrete in one. And I feel like we get half of those dynamics still in number two. Yeah. I'd say. You know? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:51 I don't know. What's your point with that? You're saying you're confusing where to rank number four? I just don't know where to rank any of them other than one. Okay. Yeah. And that's fair. I mean, excuse in ranking.
Starting point is 00:06:01 I mean, did you enjoy this one. You sound like you enjoyed this one. I really did. I really did enjoy this one. Yeah, man. As I love, uh, I love Saw. Saw's good. I love Saw.
Starting point is 00:06:11 They didn't make, they didn't make, um, what's Jake Saw's name. Out of the actor. Tobin Bell. is a character actor what is David crumb what is that what's jigsaw's name the actual guy the actual guy why can't I pull and Bell is the actor I feel like everyone just calls him jigsaw no jigsaw it's like David name John Kramer John Kramer oh my god David Krum um John Kramer that's his fucking name John Kramer I thought I'm surprised I didn't have a John Kramer and yeah the Billy the Puppet okay so They had Lionsgate, which did the saw movies, and Lionsgate produced this movie.
Starting point is 00:06:51 So it makes sense how they didn't really get away with a lot more to look. But, like, I feel like aesthetically, they got a lot of, like, the aesthetics down. Like, the War of the World's one looked a lot. Like, it was very, like, visually War of the Worlds. Yeah, I agree. I'm, I was really curious about the budget for this one compared to the other ones. This one looked expensive. But, I mean, a lot of it looked like they used a lot of green screen.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Yeah, I mean, of course, but it actually looked, you know. No, this one looked more expensive. It did. And the guy who, 40 million dollars. I am. How much was the other one? That's a lot for it. Now look up three and two.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Okay. Oh, wow. This might have been actually cheaper. Oh, okay. Wait, look up one. This is probably the cheapest one of them all. Oh, wow. $20 million.
Starting point is 00:07:33 But yeah, wow, $40 to $45 million per movie. Was their PM just bad at their job? Was what? Was P? What? Their production manager. Oh. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I know you like to talk about P a lot. So I was kind of confusing. asking that question. P-Ew. Urine is a big part of these movies. I feel like the first movie looked the best out of all of them. But like the budget is completely half. So I'm like, who's pocketing? Who's pocketing their money?
Starting point is 00:08:02 Okay. What's going on? What's going on here? I mean, I feel like this one. Maybe it's the actors had had to be paid more after the success. That's true. Yeah. Well, I think this one is the second best looking one. I feel like I was watching a real movie this time. I do think some of that stuff in the village kind of drags the movie a little bit. The village started dragging and maybe that's just because I don't know the movie so I was like I mean I know the movie and I still felt like it kind of drag it was definitely the weakest part
Starting point is 00:08:29 of the movie. There's still some funny parts in it and it felt weak. It felt like they just threw it in and I would have rather had them spend the time that they spent in the village tying in War of the World's The Grudge and Saw. Yeah it seems like they were just we have to throw in another movie in here because we're supposed to when they already threw in like other like you know I don't know. Yeah, they already had enough kind of on their play. I mean, the village was big at the time. Also, okay, I thought about this. Okay. So,
Starting point is 00:08:55 there's that scene where it's the War of the World at the end of it, where the little girls on the couch downstairs, it's when, like, the robot eye, like, comes in. Yeah, yeah. And there's the scene in War of the Worlds where they hold up a mirror, and then they, like, leave the foot there, like, they leave, like, the person's boot there, and then they get the hell
Starting point is 00:09:11 out of the way, so when the robot alien thing goes to take the boot, they tricked it. I was really excited and I thought they were going to come up with something like very clever that was more directly spoofing it. But then they just kind of went with what I think is the cheap joke of like the alien robot arm just like fucking the vacuum. Yeah. I just thought they could have. I wish.
Starting point is 00:09:33 I just feel like there were a couple missed opportunities. And I know that this must be so impossible and complicated to write. Well, I just mean like, you know, I feel like if I was writing a spoof script, I would want to work on it for like. years and months and months and months because I would always go like, oh, I feel like I could do something even more clever even, you know? Probably. I mean, it seems like when they're in doubt of what to do, they either go for like a sex joke or a penis joke.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Hump, fart. Poop. Or, you know, someone gets hit by something. Yeah. Like when in doubt, they're like, just do that. And sometimes those land, sometimes they don't. But to me, for the most part, I thought this kind of, I thought this landed way more often than not.
Starting point is 00:10:14 I feel like the first half is a little stronger than the last half. The first half was pretty solid stuff. I like the joke with Anna Ferris and the little boy. And they're just saying, like, commonly known Japanese, like, titles and slogans and phrases that we all know. That was funny. That was really, really, really funny. And it was kind of a trip because I'm, like, trying to keep up with the subtitles while hearing the words. I thought that was actually a really clever joke.
Starting point is 00:10:39 And the guy plays Tom Ryan's great. Freaking, I like perverted version of Brenda. Out of good time. I like Perv Brenda. Perv Brenda all day long. All right, Jackie, ready to head out of here by answering some of these random questions from our patrons? You can go first. You got this.
Starting point is 00:11:05 J. Dell asks, this movie throws together spoofs of War of the Worlds, The Grudge, and Saw all at once. What stood out to you most about how it somehow manages to make completely different horror styles fit into one ridiculous story? I think particularly with War of the Worlds and the Grudge, how they made. managed to take these two very different types of genres and found a way where it like visually in terms of like how there's director photography handled it and storywise like yeah it's kind of smart to just set them right next door to each other and they managed to make those blend better I feel like saw was a little like thrown in at the end there to try to make it work I agree but the way they did war the worlds in garage surprised me because one is a
Starting point is 00:11:53 supernatural horror and the other one's a sci-fi uh you know, a thriller. So the way they managed to do that was kind of surprising because they found a good narrative tying of like, you let Cindy be the lead here, you let Tom Ryan be the lead here, and they are like into each other and that's their thread mainly. And then there's some mumbo jumbo they thrown at the end to make it tie in this all. But mainly the way they tied in War of the Worlds and the Grudge was actually kind of impressive. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:20 I agree with you that I feel like the War of the Worlds and the Grudge tie in. were great. I just, I still do think that if I wasn't such a big Saw fan, I would have, like if I didn't like those movies, then then just throwing it in at the end wouldn't have worked to me. For me, I was just like, yay, Billy's back, so I kind of let the...
Starting point is 00:12:39 I did like the prologue with Shaquille. The prologue was their prologs are always good. Even Scaring Movie 3's prologs are always good. The one, the actresses one was the grossest. Oh, that one, that one was, yeah, that one, I did, but you know what?
Starting point is 00:13:01 What part of the movie was at this time? I gagged twice in a row during this one in the beginning. I don't remember what it was at. It was when they had the, it was when you saw the, oh, when she was, yes. No, no, no, no. And you went. No, it was when, no, it was when she was doing the sponge bath with the pee. That's what it was.
Starting point is 00:13:20 That one was too much, that was too much for me. I'm sorry. You whispered the racist thing to me. No, I didn't. We'll cut it out of the YouTube video. They won't ever know. No, I didn't. They won't ever know.
Starting point is 00:13:30 No, I didn't. The Pabell Kachmarek. Hello, Jackie and Greg. Or as we call ourselves, Jack Gehry. Now that you've completed, the works for me out of Ferrette's-led scary movies.
Starting point is 00:13:49 How would you rank them? Oh, shit. We already did it. After comparing the Wayne's brothers ones, the Zucker ones, what do you hope to see in the new one? might as well read this as long. Also,
Starting point is 00:14:00 use of trivia in his book The late Matthew Perry mentioned that he, Hank Exx area, and our lead in this movie, Craig Birko, would hang out all the time and we're best friends.
Starting point is 00:14:08 It's probably why his sensibility really landed with me. They apparently would compete in who could make the others laugh the most. And apparently Birko was a clear winner and the funniest out of the three of them. Thought you might find it interesting. I do,
Starting point is 00:14:21 and I will remember it for the rest of my life. Lots of love or LOL as the kid. would say it to all the rejects. Yeah, go one, two, four, three for M-Wa. I thought where this one succeeded, didn't mean to do the Heil Hitler's thing. I thought where this one succeeded.
Starting point is 00:14:40 Greg, you need to stop doing that. They can only cut it out so many times. It happens. And you know what? I'm going to rebrand it. It's not going to be the Heil Hitler thing anymore. Three was, three was, they're all blending together in my head a little bit now, Greg.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Oh, three is the one with ghost face. So how, the thing is that people were saying that like, three's the one with the signs. Oh my God, yeah, three's the one with signs. Um, is that? Uh, I think I'm also one, two, four, three now. Why? No, you should stick to your own opinion. No, because I, because.
Starting point is 00:15:15 This is not the Jack Heggerie way of doing things. God. Because one is always the best. And like I just said, I feel like I like two now more, even more. Fair. Okay, maybe one, four, two, three. Okay. But three is last.
Starting point is 00:15:31 I didn't feel like... Why did they... Eight Miles? Not a horror movie. Or a white guy rapping, I get how that could be, like, considered a horror movie. I'm feeling like an outsider and the social dysfunctions that come with it and trying to rise in a world of poverty when the system's working against you. That's a horror movie.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Because the... The exorcist bits were too much for me. one, four, two, three. Okay. Okay. Final answer. That's fair. Well, what they were saying before is that three was aiming to go back to, like,
Starting point is 00:16:05 movies like Airplane and the Naked Gun, those old school PG-13 comedies. And I felt like this one actually succeeded more in doing that than three did. So, yeah, that's why I put it here. Hey, look, we got coats. We got two more. You want to do it? Okay. Snacks asks.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Every time I hear the Karma Chameleon song at the grocery store, I giggle because it always reminds me of this movie. Thanks next. Carb. Question. Come a, come a, come a, come a, chameleon. That's what they're saying. It's an 80 song. Okay, come on, you were like from there then.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Question. Oh, I'm not. Is there a song out there that makes you think of a specific movie or scene? P.S. I like this movie more than the second scary movie. Sorry, not sorry. Hey, you found one. They're like you. Is there a song?
Starting point is 00:16:56 Max, it's you and me. It's you and me. It's you and Jackie Snacks. Shacks. Come on, come, come, come, come, came, came, came. Yeah, the opening song in Gardens of the Galaxy, because I don't know what that song is, but it's the one that Star Wars dancing to.
Starting point is 00:17:10 So when I hear it, I go, it's that Guardians of the Galaxy song. And it's got to be another one. There's definitely got to be another one. I think whenever I hear that Harry Style song now, I think of Project Hail Mary. Whenever I hear stars are blind, Paris Hilton, I think of promising young woman. One of my faves.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Promising young woman? Promising young woman, one of my faves. Is that the one with Carrie Mulligan? Yes, and a lot of people get hate for that movie. And to that, I say, you didn't understand the film. Wow. Now, this I'm going to get a lot of hate for, actually. And you know what I'm not finding out?
Starting point is 00:17:46 You know what? You got a superiority complex. Comea, comea, come, come, come, come. Jay Rushden question. This movie show, there are two kind of scary movies. great movies or awful movies which you prefer For example in August you got ice cream Man which looks awful versus end
Starting point is 00:18:03 Oak Street which looks great What? Okay hold on normally I can decipher What you're trying to say do you understand what I'm trying to say? Normally I can decipher this There are two kinds of scary movies Great movies are awful ones which you prefer Why would I prefer the awful one I feel like there's a trick question in here
Starting point is 00:18:24 I would always prefer a great movie Over an awful movie 99.9.9. 9% of the time. Well, I feel like this person writes in a lot, and normally their questions are very easy to understand. So was there a mistake maybe on the docks? No, there's usually some deciphering from Jerry Rushton.
Starting point is 00:18:42 There usually is. What if we put it on a whiteboard? Like in, like in, um... Oh, it's sunny. No, no, no, no, no. The one with Leo and he's in Boston, and then he punches a guy, and then his girlfriend's there. Leo and Boston?
Starting point is 00:19:02 Fuck, no, he's a Harvard, but he's the janitor. Goodwell hunting? Goodwell hunting. That's not Leo. It's from Mad David. That's what I meant. Cut that out. Aren't you from Boston?
Starting point is 00:19:16 That movie's like a religion for people for people from Boston. I just saw it for the first time. Why? At the end of college. Because I was busy studying. Okay. Oh. I don't know what I was like 10 years ago.
Starting point is 00:19:28 No. Like, no. Like, five. years in the future because I'm 14 I graduated early from college 19 that's impressive that's impressive anyway
Starting point is 00:19:46 yeah we're done now Jackie I thought you did excellent we have trivia and overflow question you want to read it? Yeah we're here okay okay well it's okay
Starting point is 00:20:00 J-Dell has trivia Edders won't know where to put stuff Jesus Christ. Jay Dell has trivia for us, and it's that in scary movie 4, the opening scene parading Saw originally had even more outrageous traps and jokes film, but several will cut because test audiences were laughing so hard that later punchlines kept getting drowned out. Yeah, right. Also, the filmmakers recreated parts of world the world so closely that some sets of visual effects
Starting point is 00:20:23 had to be intentionally made more ridiculous to avoid looking too accurate to the original movie. I could believe that I believe. Yeah, that I believe. There were times. It was a lot of shot for shot. It was crazy. There were times where I think the same, but I don't believe that for.
Starting point is 00:20:35 part I don't know yeah it was too funny guys it was too funny we had to cut it down because of how funny it was that's that's ridiculous okay all right well we did it Jackie again I thought you were awesome in this video and um you know you don't need to say it back on your thinking and feeling it's okay thank you uh but we're we're done now we're good to go and Maybe we'll do five. We'll let you all know. Maybe we'll do five. Bye, everyone.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Be safe and happy Christmas. Have merry, happy Christmas. Bye.
