Roxy Striar & Tara Erickson react to Scream 3 (2000), the meta-slasher sequel directed by Wes Craven that brings the original trilogy to its Hollywood-set conclusion. Leaning even harder into self-referential humor and franchise commentary, this chapter shifts the action to the set of Stab 3 while confronting the legacy of Sidney Prescott’s past. The film centers once again on Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell – Wild Things, Skyscraper), who has retreated into isolation after years of trauma—until Ghostface resurfaces with a new motive tied to Hollywood secrets. Courteney Cox (Cougar Town, Ace Ventura) returns as relentless reporter Gale Weathers, now navigating career ambition and personal growth, while David Arquette (Never Been Kissed, Eight Legged Freaks) reprises Dewey Riley, whose loyalty and optimism are tested like never before. The supporting cast expands the franchise’s scope, including Parker Posey (Best in Show, Lost in Space) as Gale’s hilariously unhinged on-screen counterpart Jennifer Jolie, Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Enchanted) as detective Mark Kincaid, and Scott Foley (Felicity, True Blood) as the film’s shocking mastermind. Fan Favorite moments include the Ghostface voice-changer twist, Sidney’s haunting dream sequences, the mansion-set finale, and the reveal of the trilogy’s true overarching villain—reframing everything that came before. While lighter in tone than its predecessors, Scream 3 closes the original saga with satire, callbacks, and a final confrontation that cements Sidney’s resilience. Starting point is 00:00:47 week with you guys as we embark on Scream 3. Shall we do it, baby? All right, this is a Reject Nation. We just watched Scream 3. We just watched Scream 3. We just watch Scream three and honestly kind of I be honored with it kind of a vibe I'm so happy I'm pleasantly surprised yeah what do you think let us know if you're on Apple Spotify five star thumbs up leave a comment
Starting point is 00:01:14 shout out of Prepper for helping edit us down by the way these movies are not easy if you're not already following us at Real Rejects across all social media like seriously stop what you're doing in this exact second and go do that or you're missing out we're going to get to some Patreon questions because
Starting point is 00:01:31 we love hearing what you guys want us to talk about. But before we do that, I do want to go to you, Tara, and just ask you in general, how do you feel about Scream 3? Scott Foley. That's his name, Scott Foley. I love him. I think he's so cute. Yeah, he is.
Starting point is 00:01:46 I thought the pacing could have been better in the beginning of the movie, but I did really love being on the back lot. I thought that was a lot of fun. I really do like how much this movie kept us guessing. I don't really like how much they played out the game that the killer could do literally everyone's voice and so anytime anyone basically got a call it was him on the other end right that was a little annoying that was a little
Starting point is 00:02:11 like this is getting played out can we move on i do like how they subverted expectations with um the actress who i think is named emily in real life emily mortimer i knew it's job babe i love her I want to see, is that the girl that I was thinking of or no? Because it would be interesting because of the Monica angle of that. Yeah. Oh, no. I guess maybe it's a different British girl that I'm thinking of. But I really liked it.
Starting point is 00:02:40 I thought it was fun. Especially towards the end, I'm glad that it was that guy. He faked his death. I guess now it's a good idea for us to remember if we don't see the death. That's good to keep that person in mind. Totally. Oh, Helen Baxendale is who plays Emily and Friends. Look, she kind of does look like her.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Let me see. They do look similar. They do look similar. And the accent. Great job with the Emily poll. I'm with you on the pacing. I'm with you on the pacing for sure, Tara. And the voice trick won too many times.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Just too many. And if then that had led to Patrick Dempsey being the killer, I was going to be like, come on. Thank goodness. You guys are smarter than this. Yeah. But I'm okay with it because it did. make us think like, oh, this movie is going to be so obvious. And then it was like, actually, we're not.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Right. Yeah, I really think that they did for a third movie in a franchise, in a horror movie installment, this is above and beyond great. I agree. Because it could have been absolute shite. It could be absolute trash. Yeah, we thought it might be in that genre. And I'm glad there aren't two killers.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I don't know that that logistically makes sense because of the upstairs, downstairs situation that we saw. But, you know, I'm glad that this, they stuck to one. killer. I like that it was a half-siblings. It does open up some doors to questions like who is that half-siblings? Father, could there be more half-siblings? Just there's, I like the lore of this. We know there's more scream movies and I'm curious kind of where we go from there. Totally. So I want to get to some questions from the patrons. How do you feel about that? All right. Tara, I'm in the mood for you. Hunter Preston. How do you guys feel about the twist of a secret
Starting point is 00:04:24 brother in his plan. Do you feel that it undermines how terrifying Billy and Stu were in the first film now that Roman was the one that led them to do all their heinous acts? No, I don't because they kind of addressed that in this one being like, yeah, I just kind of planted the seeds and they followed through. Yeah, totally. That's kind of how bad people be sometimes. You just have the plant.
Starting point is 00:04:50 So I don't think it undermines it. And what are you going to do in a trilogy, not go back? so I thought it worked for me, but I could see why somebody would feel that. I could see why you would feel it because, like, Billy and Stu were cuckoo bananas once we found out. This guy, he didn't, he wasn't necessarily cuckoo bananas. He just was, he didn't give that vibe off. He maybe could have done it more of being, like, terrifying psycho, and you did this to me. But I think he played it well.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I mean, I really liked that actor. So I get both ways. I'm not bugged by it, though. all right game night j14 how do you guys feel about the lighter joke your tone of this movie such as the jane silent bob cameo also how do you feel knowing this movie that features such a predatory producer was produced by harvey wine steen yeah all the screen movies have been right they have been yeah the joker tone the joker tone i felt like it goes in line with this franchise all three of the movies have kind of had a jokier tone to me and we're doing this one
Starting point is 00:05:53 on the lot. So if we're going to do it on the lot, I think it's fun to play around with some things. And having, I always love a Kevin Smith and Jay Mews cameo because I've worked with them so many times. I used to host a show with Jay. That's how I got in his movie. And Kevin used to come on a lot. So for, for me, honestly, I think they're two of like the greatest, they're just been so good to me. Seeing them, it feels really good. Yeah. But then also because we know how they came up in Hollywood as like these broke guys who just started making movies together by, you know, maxing out cards. I think is such a Hollywood story that I love that so I had no issue with that uh the second part of this question how do we feel about it being produced by wine scene I hate every time we watch a
Starting point is 00:06:34 movie where Harvey's name pops up whether it's about a predator or not yeah I always make fun of it in the credit because we're we've been watching a lot of old school and it always says the winesteins and like sometimes you know we'll just go well the wine scenes okay yeah but yeah I do think art imitates life a lot and um obviously he was a big EOS, and a lot of, this isn't the only movie he made that has any kind of predatory behavior in it. So, yeah. It's not like he wrote it. He just, it's super gross, though, knowing that he's an EP, so he's going to see the script.
Starting point is 00:07:07 He might, they might have had notes because they're not line producers, they're actual producers. So in seeing that older guy who is the head of the studio, which the Weinstein's kind of are the head of movies at this point, in revealing that. he invited her to an orgy and she got it like a million different ways. And then also the other Emily girl, Angelina, saying, I didn't bone that guy to die super early or whatever. There's a lot of that, that juice in there that I'm thinking he probably was reading and going like, yeah, ha, yeah, that's my life. That's what you do is producers.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Yeah, gross. Disgusting. Gross. But you know that that's what was happening. Awesome, Joe, movie reviews. This is my favorite scream movie. In fact, this was my first scream movie ever to watch before any of the others. Wow, that's interesting.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Have you ever had that experience yourself watching a movie that was a sequel for the first time before watching the first film and actually enjoyed it? Not here at work. We always start with the first one, except for that one time we watched the wrong. Nightmare on Elm Street. Yeah, it was nightmare. Was it a Friday? Was it Friday? Wait, hold on.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I think it was a nightmare. Yeah, it was a nightmare because it was Nancy. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, and what's it called where he goes to Manhattan? That's the other one. Freddie Tee. We hated that one, but we watched the remake. But that's not as, this is.
Starting point is 00:08:40 That's not, we, I don't have any of that. I don't have any of that. I'm trying to start the beginning. I don't think I've ever slapped in the middle and gone, ooh, this is good. Like, did you watch the dark night before you watched? Oh, dark night's one of my favorites. begins um i might have actually i might have dark night is literally it's at the top of top of my list always yeah we we both love that no i don't think this has ever happened to me but i'm glad you
Starting point is 00:09:05 love this one so much and honestly i'd heard not good things about this one and i loved it too so i'm pretty happy yeah um jdell if you were trapped on the stab three movie set realized the killer was targeting everyone who played you in the film what would be your survival strategy. Would you team up to try to expose ghost face or disappear into the background and hope the credits roll before they find you? Fun facts. Scream 3 was originally meant to have multiple killers, including Angelina's Roman's partner. But after the Columbine tragedy, the studio wanted to less violence and scrap that idea. Plus the script kept leaking, so they rewrote it constantly, which is why Roman ended up being the only killer. Oh, they added that in there.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Meta. It's so crazy. It's so crazy. that they did that because of Columbine because now we have a mass shooting every single day so we don't be changing things like that except for punishers the last time I can remember they changed something
Starting point is 00:10:00 or didn't drop it but I'm so glad that Angelina wasn't Roman's partner I think it was so much better without her being his partner yeah her and Patrick were the two obvious ones what would be your strategy terror
Starting point is 00:10:11 like you're kind of I mean you're asking if I realized a killer was targeting everyone who played to me in such film number one I guess why would I be there would I try to team up with the ghost face
Starting point is 00:10:28 disappear into the background hope the credits roll before they find you no my strategy wouldn't be to survive it would be to try to save as many people as I could right like that's sort of the strategy is to try to get everybody uh together on the same page and um
Starting point is 00:10:44 I would I like that I have a new fresh idea what is it We're going to write a whole new stab three, but leak that entire script and make sure that it gets leaked hard. And we put in specific locations so that now we know, we just like booby trap them up. So that now we know he's going to go to those occasions.
Starting point is 00:11:08 He's going to try to get, we even leak the schedule, the fake schedule. And everyone who actually is leaked to go to those occasions that are written in the fake schedule. script that was leaked they all know taekwondo cool you have to find one person you know you trust and then trust nobody else and then the two of you guys can handle it together okay yeah that's what i think okay i like it yeah you got it terrible what were your thoughts about to reveal this from malique what were your thoughts about the reveal of this ghost face the face reveal and
Starting point is 00:11:42 their motivation scream three is honestly my least favorite in the franchise but it did enjoy them is direct with patrick dempsey's character and worst crime of all in the this movie was the Courtney Cox's base I love that Malik we are so with you the second we saw her bank she was like micro bangs not or whatever you call that's what they're called that is what you call micro banks I can't I know it's what they're called there because they're making a comeback right now no yeah I know agree just out yeah they're really really unattractive you can be the hottest woman alive it'll all on Courtney Cox and it was like tough to watch it was I'm with you and remember many times last time I said I love her hair so much
Starting point is 00:12:22 with the red strutty. I know and two minutes in the movie after she calls that mic her being she goes very low into the mic they probably won't pick it up she's like I missed her short I swear to God I did it was so low only I could hear it I was just casually dreaming
Starting point is 00:12:40 oh my God it was so good I'm glad you caught that what's your thoughts on the reveal of ghost face I like I like it because we did see him die and didn't clock like oh we didn't see that death so he might not be dead and normally we would always guess that and we didn't yeah so i did really like it i also like the misdirect with dempsey too so i'm with you worked for me yep jaden roads this was always my least favorite of the series i think it's just too jokey for me where all the others had a good blend
Starting point is 00:13:13 this one goes full comedy in my opinion also sidney and roman being siblings just feel so forced also them not meeting to the reveal just doesn't feel right also this is my last rant the dumb voice box that can copy someone's voice is just so over the top if it was made today I could believe it but back in 2000s this is nowhere
Starting point is 00:13:31 near a device that could be made I roll my eyes every time it's used but I'm curious if you all agree I can't wait for these reactions to drop thank you Jaden appreciate the comment do you want to take this one first I mean I do think it was it was pretty joking I'm with you
Starting point is 00:13:47 I do. I have it, obviously, haven't gone through the entire franchise. This one's the weaker one of the other two that I've watched. The voicing didn't bother me because we had that from the very first one. And I was like, well, if everybody's on board with this, I get the spooky, the spooky voice is easier, but then turning it into that it can sound like anyone, we're, we're, they're supposed to force you into like believing this, you know, films do that. You're just like, ah, it's film magic. that didn't bug me too much. I do get what you're saying. Yeah. I think that what was really helpful to us, I'm just going to give you guys a little behind the scenes of information, was that I came in here before we started shooting
Starting point is 00:14:30 and I said, Tara, this is supposed to be the worst one in the franchise. Yeah. And it lowered the expectations. Yeah, I was like, just so we're both the way I've heard from everybody, this is the worst in the franchise. Yeah. So I just think the whole time we were pleasantly surprised. I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Because when you say that to me about, Friday the 13th or Halloween or Nightmare and Elm Street, those, the worst in those franchises are actually bad. They're very bad. So I was expecting this to be a bad movie, not the worst screen movie, a bad movie. A bad movie. And so because of that, yes, some of the things are a little over the top and yes, we don't get to see the sibling dynamic form and that could be a little bit of bummer.
Starting point is 00:15:11 And yes, this voice box thing, which has been around since the first one, was overused in this one. and yet I was kind of like I don't care it's still a good movie it's the worst of the three and still totally totally solid for me totally solid and it could have been a lot worse yeah we watched some call out that phone the phone thing
Starting point is 00:15:30 even throughout the movie really they're using this way too freaking much it was just like such a convenient device so that was a little annoying but yeah totally is this okay our last we're I'm going to speak through these Resonancy I'll admit I initially didn't like this movie when I first saw it
Starting point is 00:15:45 but a half grown to like it after rewatches. Question, has there been movies that you go back on and enjoy more after some times passed? And what would make you rewatch a movie you didn't like the first time for me? A movie being part of a series makes it easier to rewatch. And another reason would be rewatching a movie with friends. Okay. Yes, there is, but I couldn't name which. Like, I know what's happened to me before, but I don't really remember what?
Starting point is 00:16:10 The Dark Night. She brought that up earlier? Hell to the freak, yeah. But you didn't like it at first? Wait. but have grown to like it after rewatched, yeah. You like that one always, yeah, yeah. When I was younger, I didn't like, what's Nacho Libre?
Starting point is 00:16:27 He's, what's that movie? Wait, just pause for a second. Napoleon Dynamite? Thank you. Okay, I said, just pause for a second. I didn't like that movie. I didn't like it. I think when I first saw it, I was like, I didn't think it was funny.
Starting point is 00:16:42 I actually think I felt the exact same way as you did. And then I rewatched it And I was like, oh, I get it now. Totally. I still don't love this movie, but I really hated finding Nemo at first. And now after seeing Finding Dory, the whole, the franchise is okay to me. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:00 It's a, I used to like really, really dislike it. Really? It grew on me a little. That's interesting. Jay Rushden, our final question. Thank you, Jay says, question, was the killer of this movie obvious to you? Or were you surprised at the end? we were both surprised we saw him die but honestly now i've i'm it's locked yeah now we won't be fooled
Starting point is 00:17:20 again see you die forget about it yeah i i agree uh i think that when he was the first one to get arrested for the murder and he was made that was a really good bait and switch because then i agree we were like oh it can't be him right no there were two people that i was like if it's one of these two and if it is either of these it was too obvious and it was angelina and patrick dempsey and it was neither of them and that's what made us happy. Yeah. And it wasn't the older guy either. It wasn't. And that was the third guess. Yeah. So that was totally surprising. That's one of the reasons I love the Scream franchise is that you genuinely, they do a great job of keeping
Starting point is 00:17:59 you guessing. Totally. Which I love. It's a fun game. Every time you watch one and that's like what it should be. Totally. All right. Citizens of the Reject Nation, we appreciate you guys going on this journey with us. Let us know. I think we're halfway through the franchise.
