Having finally seen Shanghai Noon & with Jackie Chan back in theatres with Karate Kid: Legends, Aaron & Tara REUNITE for a trip to Merry Olde England with their Shanghai Knights Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Aaron Alexander & Roxy Striar as they return to the Wild West–meets–Victorian London antics of Shanghai Knights, where Chon Wang (Jackie Chan, Rush Hour, Drunken Master) and Roy O’Bannon (Owen Wilson, Wedding Crashers, Zoolander) continue their globe-trotting duo’s misadventures. When Chon’s father is murdered by anarchist Lord Edgar Lytton (Aidan Gillen, Game of Thrones, The Wire), the mismatched pair cross the ocean to chase justice—and stumble into Buckingham Palace intrigue, Jack the Ripper lore, and a horse-drawn carriage chase that has become one of the most searched-for sequences in action comedies. The film also features Fann Wong (Singaporean superstar of The Disappeared, Shanghai Dawn) as Chon Lin, Chon’s resourceful sister who reluctantly joins the chaos; martial-arts legend Donnie Yen (star of Ip Man, Rogue One) as enigmatic swordsman Wu Chow, whose electrifying duel atop Big Ben delivers a knockout punch; Tom Fisher (known for Coraline, The Young Victoria) as Lord Robin Loth, Lytton’s scheming servant; and a young Aaron Taylor-Johnson (breakout roles in Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron) as a street urchin whose quick wit aids our heroes. Aaron & Roxy break down every unforgettable moment—from Chon’s gravity-defying assault on Buckingham Palace spies to Roy’s reluctant sword-fighting lessons, and the film’s iconic Royal Guards fight atop the Tower Bridge. Don’t miss their take on the frenetic dockside brawl, Chon’s nail-biting balcony rescue, and the climactic showdown where past and present collide in a blaze of brass and blade. to the guys over a prepper the guys and girls over a prepper for cutting down these highlights
so you can see them here on youtube also if you're listening on apple or spotify make sure you
give us five stars and yeah you can also watch this over
on our clips channel because that's where the reviews are going now because
Greg said that's where the reviews go so I'm making sure I say that so you guys know
that's where the reviews go that are not connected to the reaction itself
she's looking up stuff while she's looking up stuff I'm going to have her multitask
you know why I can't look up anything right now because my spelling is so atrocious
it took me like five minutes to write anything out you know what I do when I can't spell
things I just voice it yeah I do that but I couldn't in this moment okay the
sister i'm just so curious about where she went because she was so great um she was so badass
you can handle that so her name is fan wong no like where she went in life like why don't we know
who this actress oh yeah because she's gorgeous she's talented um fan wong she did more chinese
films than american uh it's possible because all of the yeah i i don't recognize any of these
movies um none of them so chinese films yeah they must be uh the legendary swordsman
legend of the snake spirit return of the condor breeze by the sea i don't i don't recognize any of
this she did a lot of films yeah yeah so good oh she's a um she's a singaporean and she is an
actress singer model oh i can see that yeah awesome triple threat
She was so good, so good.
I have more to tell you, I've got to keep looking people up, but you keep talking to me.
Man, I was going to ask you how you felt about the movie, right?
Yeah, that's an important thing for me to talk about before I keep looking.
You know I like a movie when immediately I'm like, I got to go dig in.
Yeah.
I got to go find things.
In general, I felt like this was a really good follow-up to Shanghai Noon.
It was a lot of fun.
It was a really good sequel.
It did a lot of stuff that the original didn't, but also kept the same dynamic that we love.
Yeah.
But I do think that there was some weird things, weird choices that were made.
Like, in general, the dynamic of the two main stars of Jackie and Owen is phenomenal.
In general, I like the supporting cast.
In general, the action sequences are sick and unique and absolutely baller.
The pillow fight thing is hysterical and weird.
The fact that, like we ended last time, we didn't really pick up where we ended and we don't know why we didn't pick up where we ended.
never give us a reason. The fact that we have give them both love interests, but neither of the
love interests make it into this movie. And even Jackie's working woman wife is like not in this.
You know, there was just some things that felt like, oh, what, what kind of happened here?
Like, why, why couldn't we do this? You know, there's things like that. I know the audience gets
mad at me when I bring the stuff up, but it's just how I feel. And I'm allowed to feel this way
as a react as somebody watching movie.
I also think the lines are that, like, 90% of this is so funny,
but lines like Indian and Chinese, same thing.
They just don't play for me.
They're not funny, so it's kind of like a waste of space for some moments.
But maybe they played in 2000, what years?
Three, I think.
This was 2003.
Pretty sure.
Maybe they played in 2003.
Yeah, it was.
Good call.
But in general, really fun.
The first one, super fun.
The second one, super fun.
recommend these to anybody yeah how about you i walked away feeling like i had a good time i had a hilarious
time both from the movie and watching it with you i think this was definitely a nice movie to watch
on my thursday afternoon slash early evening um give a little peek behind the scenes as to when we
film these yeah it's 7-11 right now 7-11 make a wish make a wish oh peekie blinders he i watched him
peeky blinders also was he even ever in revenge i i feel why did i feel like that's what i knew him from
you don't know dude that was wrong that was wrong the whole time he was never in revenge i just know him
as little finger i just mistakenly thought that he was also in other shows but i did know him from
peeky blinders too just a mysterious dude with a little finger and he was a maze runner that was so stupid
of me you guys are yelling at me and i can feel it and i can see it and i can hear it and i hear you
and I understand your pain and your hesitation.
It's okay.
You know, when you just like, you know a name and you're like, oh, is that that person?
But then as we're halfway through, I was like, how do I know him from revenge?
Who was even in that show?
And then when you said Littlefinger, I was like, yeah, I just got my, sometimes I'd be having facial blindness.
That's the thing.
I have named blindness.
So I recognize his face, but I was like, I don't know that name.
I was like, I know the name, but then I thought that it was somebody else.
I don't know.
It happens.
Like how I've watched so many of Donnie's movies here,
but it took me 20 minutes of looking at him to be like,
is that Donnie?
I didn't want to say he was the wrong guy,
but I also felt that.
You were feeling him for a minute, too?
I mean, once you said Donnie, I felt better about him.
But I was like, I've seen enough of his work to feel confident
to say that's what I have.
But I've also, I'm a huge Game of Thrones fan.
I've watched Aiden for years.
And I couldn't play.
I don't know.
Sometimes, even what was the most recent one that I did where it was a young Nicole Kidman
and I did not know it was her.
I just didn't place her.
It was that.
Yeah.
How did you know?
She's unrecognizable in that.
Some of her best work.
Come to the movies.
Heartbreak feels good in a place like this.
It really does.
I'm sad they changed it too.
But then they didn't they change it back?
No, they didn't change it back.
I thought they changed it and changed it back.
No.
I'd riot every time.
internally not externally because i'm a respectful movie viewer but um yeah this movie made me feel
happy and joyful for the fact that you know owen wilson and jacky chan were back reunited and
it felt so good it did it did i had fun the music the music the music the setting i thought
the the plot was it was interesting enough to have an excuse to get these two guys back together
I like the new setting
Or worse?
I think
How do I say this?
I think the first one's a better movie
But I think this one was more fun
I feel very similar to you
Yeah
Because the first one's solid
The first one's solid
But I feel like it took a little bit
To get going
This one kind of jumped you in straight away
From the action scene
Where it started
And then didn't really waste any time
From getting him from Nevada to New York
And then from there
We were just off with the races
Getting them to England
And yeah
I thought it was a really solid time
the action was a lot of fun. I think the way that they were able to utilize it as a way to
give us insights to his character. But I feel like some movies do this thing where they're
guilty of having action scenes for the sake of action scenes where I feel like something like
as I'm watching, you know, it's the most recent thing I've watched as a time of recording
this, Mission Impossible movies with Tara is that in certain franchises, action is used to
progress the story. And I feel like this is somewhere in the middle. This is action.
that is fun that is entertaining that acts as another character in the movie but also there
are certain sequences that do progress the story as well and you liked that i did like it yeah i feel
like you have a favorite action sequence in this one that's a good question i think they're all a lot of
fun um that's the pillow fight favorite action sequence i like one with the eyes through the painting
with the rotating wall that was a cheekiest one yeah that was really cool but there was a lot of great ones
I feel like I have to, how do I even look up what, what was the deal with that pillow fight?
Shanghai Knights, pillow fight scene.
Yeah.
Just put that and see what Google tells you.
What is up with that?
I don't wonder.
I'm just so curious.
I think this is the epitome of an action comedy.
You know, we had a lot of great action.
We had the dynamics between Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, creating the comedy.
solid stuff do i like it more than the rush hour movies no but i think the fact that we're playing
with this setting of you know having the stuff with sherlock homes having making not making fun
of i guess poking fun a little bit at you know the the guards for the england and the royal
so you like the rush hour movies better i would say i do i think that the chemistry between
jacky chan and chris tucker is a little stronger i feel like it's just a difference
sort of dynamic between the two of them, but I like the historical aspects of what this has
to offer, but Aaron Taylor Johnson was a fun little addition to the story.
The fact that he was Charlie Chapman was crazy was crazy, insane.
Like, I didn't even know he's been acting since that age.
I didn't know he's been acting that age, and I didn't know I could get scared from pure joy.
No, don't apologize.
It was great.
I'm thrilled because normally when people try to scare me, it doesn't work.
I was not trying.
I was just excited that I finally recognized.
Anybody could. I never get it right.
And I felt you're excited.
Everybody always makes fun of me on here because I always am like, I know that person.
And then I can't place how or who or why.
But I watch so much television that I know a lot of actors, but I don't know them.
I just have seen them.
There's a lot of those faces, but I'm happy that his face is recognizable enough that even in his childhood state, you knew that that was him.
But only because we saw his name, we saw Aaron Johnson at the beginning.
And I was like, is that going to be?
You think if you didn't see his name, you never know.
No way.
No way. Zero shot. I was kidding too. It still took me 30 minutes. Yeah. Grand, if you had not said anything, I probably wouldn't put it together. I'll be honest.
Reject Nation, the basketball playoffs are heating up. And if you want to turn your takes into something real. You've got to check out prize picks.
Our go-to in the Daily Fantasy Sports World. If you've never tried it, here's how it works. It's relatively simple. You pick two to six players and you guess whether or not they'll get more or less than the stat line price picks.
This week I'm looking at the basketball board and selecting Donovan Mitchell for more than 26 points, Jason Tatum for more than nine rebounds, Nikola Yoakicch for more than 25 points, and Anthony Edwards for more than four assists.
Basketball terminology. It's that simple. If your picks hit, you win. Even my dumb noggin can keep up with that.
And the more picks that you string together, the more money you can make, up to 1,000 times your entry.
And what's cool is, it's not just basketball. You can mix and match players across different sports like baseball, football,
Even Esports. It's like building your own custom bet. It's all based on player stats and you're in full control.
Plus, they invented something called FlexPlay, which means even if one of your picks misses, you can still win cash.
And payouts are super fast. I've seen it hit in under 15 minutes.
So here's what you can do. You can download the app today and use code Rejects to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup.
Again, that's code Rejects, $50 instantly after your first $5 lineup.
Prize picks. Run your game.
It was crazy.
Okay, I'm looking at trivia because I wanted to try to find anything about the pillow fight.
Okay.
I haven't found anything about the pillow fight, but I have found some things if you want me to tell you about it.
Yeah, hit me.
Okay, let's see.
When Artie Doyle tries to break the lock of Madam Tussaud's,
Roy compares his work to that of a surgeon.
This is probably a reference to the fact that the real Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a physician,
even though in the movie he's a detective.
I didn't know he was a physician
I didn't know a goddamn thing about this man
That's cool
Arthur Conan Doyle
Sorry I didn't know
This movie marks the first on-screen
battle between Jackie Chan and Donnie
N who have had success in Hong Kong
But had never fought each other on screen before
That's cool
Hey
That's really cool
Breaking New Ground
Lord Rathbone in the movie
Is referred to as the finest swordsman in England
Basil Rathbone
Was the star of many
swashbuckling movies and was considered the finest swordsman on the silver screen interesting
oh yeah oh okay fawn wong trained for her stunts despite not having a martial arts background
so that answers that question about that she had a background in ballet which helped to a certain
extent that's interesting let me see if i can get to some spoiler ones spoilies
Spoiling.
Um, okay.
During the fight with the ruffians,
Chaum Wang falls into a coffin.
The sign on the wall behind him reads,
Sowerberry.
Mr. Sowerberry is the funeral director and mortician from the book
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.
During the scene, the first four notes of the theme to the Adams family are heard.
Because the coffin, that's interesting.
Ah, I didn't catch that.
After catching Roy and Chon Pillow War.
Let's see.
Uh-oh.
Lynn escapes following a stone bridge where a man tries to attack her, which she possibly kills.
It is speculated that that man is Jack the Ripper, later confirmed.
I didn't realize that.
It doesn't tell me anything about the pillow fight.
They don't want you to know what the pillow fight.
They don't want you to ask about it.
I feel like it had to be a reshoot or something.
Okay, Princess Pipe, which Lucy Liu, doesn't appear in this film, nor has to be.
has been offered to reprise her role.
However, she is mentioned in the deleted scenes.
Mm, okay.
I wonder why she wasn't offered to reprise her role.
Yeah, that's a good question.
What was up with that movie?
Yeah, what's up with that?
Huh.
Aaron Taylor Johnson's character, Charlie Chaplin,
bears some resemblance to a younger Angus Young.
I don't know what it is.
I've ever heard of Angus Young.
Sorry, sorry.
Is that Charlie Chapman's real name?
Big British people that I don't know.
Sorry if they are.
We probably sound like stupid Americans at times.
Forgive us, please.
Artie Doyle looks nothing like the real Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
who was a plump man with a bushy mustache.
However, Artie does possess a striking resemblance to Sherlock Holmes,
especially according to the famous Sydney Paget's illustration.
Sorry, I don't know how to pronounce probably very famous people names.
I like that they did that homage, though, to make him...
Like, housing somebody who looked like the character.
That's fun.
Yeah, that is fun.
Okay, Aaron Taylor Johnson plays a young boy who supposedly grows up to be actor Charlie Chaplin.
The real Charlie Chaplin was born in 1989, 2 years after the movie is set.
So this was set in 87.
When Roy is fantasizing about his future family life, he mentions his kids' names, Vera, Chuck, and Dave.
These names are actually the grandchildren of Sir Paul McCartney, fantasy from the Beatles,
song when I'm 60 when I'm 64
all of them are way past 64 now
in the scene
what I mean?
In the scene where
Chom Wang fights
Rathbone's guards they are constantly
making sure no priceless antique
urns are broken this is the same
action by Jackie Chan's character
in the climax of rush hour
yeah the first one
right? Yeah
1998
I called that.
So those were successful before these.
This is him coming off of Rush Hour.
I know Rush Hour 3 was after both of these movies.
I think I was 7, if I remember correctly.
So he was doing both franchises at once.
That's interesting.
Yeah, he was killing it in the 2009s.
That's what I got for you, my dude.
Well, okay.
All right, I want to guess the Rotten Tomatoes.
Unless you want to guess rotten tomatoes.
No, you can guess.
Yeah.
Okay, yeah, hit me.
I don't even remember what the first one was.
do you want me to tell you
it's so hard for movies like this rotten tomatoes really isn't relevant
yeah because i feel like they were really hard
and critics were and also it didn't have the same like kind of critic um
participation uh then as it does now like usually i feel like scores here have like
50 people as opposed to 300 critics or whatever so it's just such a smaller
i feel like rotten tomatoes didn't really get big until like the 2010s
yeah i feel that way too let's see shanghai noon when did it even start
What do you mean?
Rotten Tomatoes.
I imagine it was just not as popular, but it's been around since then.
I don't know.
I don't know when Rotten Tomatoes started.
Let me look.
Shanghai Noon on Rotten Tomatoes had an 80.
Okay.
How many reviews?
133.
Wow.
Okay.
Small.
All right.
I'm going to guess the Shinghai Nights.
Okay.
Is it up already?
What do you mean?
Do you have Shanghai Nights up?
Yes.
Okay.
Like, do I have, do I know the answer?
Yeah.
Yes.
Okay.
I'm going to guess for critics 69.
66.
Oh, I was close.
You were really close.
But what do you think for the tomato meter?
Oh, the audience?
Yeah, sorry, the, what's that called?
The critics one is the tomato audience.
What's the audience one called?
The popcorn meter?
Popcorn meter.
That says it right here.
I guess 89
54
damn I know
y'all hate of this
yeah they must not have been fans
what do you think they gave Shanghai noon
popcorn
89 65
really so at least that's fresh but
or you know
up not certified fresh but still
popcorn bud bucket
calling me shocked
yeah
yeah
but you know what
okay so let's see for this one
150 reviews.
Well, I'm curious.
When did Rotten Tomatoes start?
Yeah, why not?
Find out here.
Behind the scenes.
As we discover.
Do you want me to tell you or do you want to guess?
Okay, yeah.
Let me guess.
Let me guess.
1996.
So close.
Really?
98.
Damn.
Oh, man.
That's my second guess.
Okay, Rotten Tomatoes.
It's been around for a minute.
Yeah.
awesome all right roxy do you have any parting thoughts before we wrap this up just i know i mentioned
it quickly but i thought that the music choices and this was excellent from the singing the rain
um mike the the needle drops that they did to the actual not just the score but the soundtrack
also uh really complimented this and i like when they are in one time period but they use
things from a different time period and it works sometimes it doesn't so i was really happy with that
uh and in general this franchise is a win for me
yeah i had a lot of fun with it i don't know if they over do a third one but i would be down if they do it a third one
this kind of harkens back to a time where movies were just fun for the sake of being fun i imagine if they were to do a third one
it'd be a lot more mix of the drama and the heart and infuse the comedy and the action um with those things
totally no contemporary stuff has to have a degree of of artis to it but i like that we
824 presents shanghai uh afternoon shanghai
now.
Shai now.
They time travel.
That would be great.
Oh, man.
But yeah, this has been a lot of fun.
We love you guys.
Appreciate you for watching.
And we will see you guys in the next one.
Duceus.
