Giddy up with Roxy Striar & Aaron Alexander as they ride into the hilarious world of Shanghai Noon (2000), where East meets West in a rollicking Western action-comedy. Jackie Chan shines as Imperial Guard Chon Wang (celebrated for Rush Hour and Rumble in the Bronx), dispatched to the American frontier to rescue Princess Pei Pei. He’s paired with slick outlaw Roy O’Bannon (Owen Wilson, Wedding Crashers, Zoolander), whose quick quips and questionable bounty-hunting skills collide perfectly with Chon’s martial-arts mastery. Lucy Liu (star of Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill) charms as the spirited Princess Pei Pei, whose sharp wit and warrior instincts match any cowboy’s, while Roger Yuan (The Matrix Reloaded) brings menace as the ruthless henchman Lo Fong. Rounding out the posse, Chris Penn (Reservoir Dogs, Footloose) pops up as Chon’s reluctant partner Marshal Jackson, and Dan Hedaya (Blood In, Blood Out, Boogie Nights) has a memorable turn as saloon owner Marshal Nathan Van Cleef. Roxy & Aaron break down every standout moment—from the gravity-defying train rescue and the epic saloon brawl to the explosive showdown in the mountain gold mine. Don’t miss their take on how Shanghai Noon balances Jackie Chan’s trademark stunts with Owen Wilson’s laid-back humor, creating a dynamic duo that defined a genre mash-up favorite. All right
let's do it
a little bit of those jams
i'm like smiling ear to ear right now that was so much fun
if you guys are listening to us on ab or spotify don't forget to give us that five
star if you're on youtube that thumbs up
and don't forget rejectnation shop.com for this sick merch

Yeah, we just watched Shanghai noon for the first time.
Aaron, how are you feeling?
I'm feeling good.
That was awesome.
That was a lot of fun.
I like experience in this Jackie Chan movie with Owen Wilson.
I have great chemistry.
Their chemistry's sick.
The chemistry's sick.
They bailed off of each other so well.
The comedy was great.
I enjoyed this time era and getting to see them do their thing.
And yeah, it's just fun being in the West.
This is a good time.
Yeah, yeah, totally.
Like, I really like Western movies in general.
Oh, for real.
I took a Western course in college.
No way.
Yeah, and I watched all of the classics.
And my dad also loved Westerns, so I grew up on Westerns.
But there's not, it's not often anymore that I sit down to watch a Western.
Not that this is like a classic Western, this is obviously a comedy, but this is such
a fun spin on a Western, because I love watching, like, the gun slinging saloon walking
into whatever it is.
It just was such a blast.
And this has sick fights and it's got love
and I'm a lover, love, love, and shiverships.
And it's got Jackie Chan.
So it's like, it just checked all of my boxes.
I was even worried at the end about the wife thing.
But as long as they're both happy
and the previous wife, the indigenous woman,
didn't feel like scorn because like, what the hell?
And she seemed stoked.
What do I care?
Why swap all you want?
I was like, what are you guys going to do here the whole time?
I was like, how are you doing this to your wife?
You were so concerned for this one.
I really was because I was like, she's a champion.
Like, she held it down.
She did.
And he's got, we hear from him that he's this man with honor.
You know, he's got all this honor and he's going to do the honorable thing.
And yet you just wiped up this girl.
I understand you were blacked out, but you still wifeed her up.
And she still came and saved your ass twice.
Twice?
Twice.
And then you're going to just walk out on her.
But she was like, no, no, feelings mutual.
I like this dude instead.
And I was like, oh, good.
That was perfect.
And they set it up pretty early in the movie as well with the same out.
With the white guy thing?
Yeah, with the white guy comment.
Yeah, that was funny.
And you're right.
That was definitely foreshadowing.
But at the time, I was like, how are you going to fix this?
Right.
She's, I mean, I love Lucy Lou in this, but even more than that, I don't know the actress's name of the first wife.
Yeah.
But that girl was sick.
Like, what a cool character.
And her realizing that she spoke English the whole time was hilarious.
Yeah, she's probably been listening to them, like, you absolute tools.
Let me just keep coming saving you because you guys can't save yourself.
And I love characters that, like, don't feed into the trope or whatever.
She was just, she was clearly the most badass person in the whole movie.
Oh, yeah, most capable.
Most capable.
And she was like, all right, whatever the boys are be doing, but like, I'm going to come save them.
So that was so cool.
Man, Jackie Chan can fight.
For real, though.
He's so good.
And I love the way he fights.
it's like it's almost seems like it's happening on accident sometimes he's like it's very much
yeah he stumbles it's very much like a defensive fighting style and I really appreciate it because
he's like off the cuff it was kid rock oh kid rock I know I was singing it and then I was like
oh but they had aerosmith and he they had cool music they had a lot of six songs anyway keep
gone sorry no the soundtrack really worked really well but yeah no just watching the the fight scenes play
out and this is a variety of fight scenes as well this the different locations and seeing how
creative they were with the different stunts that they used and the props man like what they were
using for the fights with a horseshoe that was my favorite one that was I feel like I loved in the
saloon when everything kind of went wild and we were using kind of the cups and the glasses and
the tables and all of that but the horseshoe was really cool yeah and using this environment as
your your jungle gym of weaponry I think that was pretty sick
Yeah, I think that also just the arcs as well, like him being like super subsovereate and loyal to then finally standing up for what he wants and what he believes in.
And then Roy not becoming a scoundrel anymore.
Like listening to what Lucy Lou on it.
You know, it's not just about like what he wants.
He's like she doesn't want to go back.
Right.
So I'm not going to force her to go back.
No, exactly.
She just has her own agency.
And then because he's the only one that's listening to her, this is why they fell in love.
Yeah.
You think in the next one they're in love still?
I hope so.
I hope they have a kid.
What's the next one called?
Shanghai Knights.
Shanghai Nights.
How far after was it?
Do you know how many years after?
This is 2000.
The one I looked at up, I think it's 2003.
Okay.
So I'll go like a few years.
Man, I can't believe I missed these.
Like, what was I doing at the time?
I mean, I was young.
I guess that's why that I didn't see these.
Yeah, crazy.
And it's funny, as we said at the beginning,
because we're like, it's a buddy movie.
And I guess, technically, the next one's a buddy cop movie.
Well, it seems like when he's like, I'll never get used to this and we see it on him.
Did it seem like they both were men of the law now?
I presume so.
Yeah.
Because, yeah, they're working together.
Yeah.
Oh, I have to look up what the, I forgot to look just now when we did the credits.
I have to look up that guy's name.
Oh, right.
I can't believe I couldn't clock him.
And like, this was really bothering.
This happens to me, you guys know who watched the channel.
When I get fixated on who an actor is, it, like, destroys things for me because I can't.
Zander Berkeley.
Who, what else is he in that we see?
Okay.
He was in Terminator 2.
Okay.
Which probably is why he's standing out to me so much because I just watched that.
Oh, he is in an episode of the Mandalorian.
He has 2504 credits as an actor.
Oh, crap.
That's amazing.
Good for him.
Zander Berkeley.
His name actually is not as familiar with me.
I'm just trying to look at all the things that he's most known for.
But with 254 credits, we've obviously, oh, he plays Gregory in the Walking Dead.
That's how I know him most.
He was in the Walking Dead.
Did you watch The Walking Dead?
Was Gregory later seasons or earlier seasons?
He was in from 2016 to 2018.
So that would be later.
I fell off around the time Negan was introduced.
like Negan's first season and a little bit after his I forgot that he was Gregory that's how
I knew him the whole time oh that's crazy um I jump back in it was good towards the end okay
you fell off at Negan knee and he was great um he was in air force one Apollo 13 this man works
damn I want the actress the the oh yeah good call good call let me see her name is brandon
Merrill and she
oh my god
this is her one and only credit
what I've never even seen that she's not in the sequel
did they recast her for the sequel just forget about her
guys and
her that's crazy
guess what her character's name is you know how you ask me halfway through
what is her name yeah guess what her name is
this is how she's actually credited in the movie
wife Indian wife
damn
Damn they didn't even bother to give this woman a name and she's the MVP of the movie
and also native indigenous anything but Indian wife come on that's actually crazy come on
2000 2000 less this woman had full blown line she was a huge part of the movie we couldn't
give her a name nothing yes I was Indian wife in Shanghai night oh my God she's she's
She's like the fourth, one of the biggest characters in the movie.
Maybe not the fourth biggest, but she's a, she's my thing.
This is her one and only movie.
What happened?
I have so many questions about that.
She was born in Colorado, raised on a ranch in Wyoming.
She first gained national exposure when she was featured in an article about Cheyenne Rodeo for W Magazine.
She was signed by DNA models and worked for Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein.
So maybe she was a model.
Okay.
I can't believe this is her one and only movies.
She did great.
That's crazy.
Give that girl more credit.
That is a while.
Brandon, we see you.
We love you.
We appreciate you.
Do you want to know something crazy?
So what year did you guess Charlie's Angels came out?
Chis and three?
It was 2000.
What?
So this came out the same year as Charlie's Angel.
It's big year for Lucy Lou, my girl.
Wow.
Holy crap.
Isn't there a sequel to Charlie's Angels?
Yeah.
Is that one two?
Um, let me look for you.
I think it's Charlie's Angels full throttle.
I could be wrong about that.
Charlie's Angels full throttle was 2003.
Yeah.
And you haven't seen that either.
No.
It's also excellent.
Um, okay, so 2000, Lucy Lou is on the map.
I mean, she was Lucy Lewin.
Yeah, and also Jackie Chan, like, in his American films, because.
Oh, let me see.
These, yeah, this one and Rush Hour were happening at the same time.
So Rush Hour was 98.
So that came out.
And then rush hour two is 2001.
So this was in between the first and the second.
Man, Jackie Chan was doing his thing.
He was.
The, uh, oh my God.
The fish out of water stories with the, the American and him being loyal to his, his government.
That really worked for me.
I felt for him so bad.
And when he walks in the bar and everybody was laughing and he gets kicked out.
I was like, oh, man.
Well, hello again, Huel, H-U-E-L, today's video sponsor.
Lately, I've been loving talking about Huel because I've used him as an excuse to give you
guys updates on my fitness journey back in january of this year i was 218 pounds last time i weigh myself i'm
down to 179 but this time i decided to take a fancy picture close to the mirror good lighting
and i did have to flex but i'm making progress i'm almost at the six-pack look at it almost at the six
pack it's almost 40 pounds down and one of the biggest game changers for me has easily bit i
staying consistent with healthy go-to meals such as hules black condition ready to drink
As a matter of fact, I just shot a video with Andrew and Aaron this morning.
Both came without having had any breakfast.
And, of course, they were hungry.
First thing they did.
They got themselves a hule in the office fridge, baby.
Because I bought plenty.
It's a complete meal in a bottle, man, it is tasty.
It's packed with over 35 grams of protein, 27 vitamins of minerals,
slow-release carbohydrates, and low sugar, plus fiber.
No prep, no cleanup, just grab it, go.
Shoot a react.
or whatever else you do. Yeah, whether I'm filming, working out, or frankly, too tired to cook, which is pretty much every day. This bottle's been a lifesape. It actually tastes good, too. My favorites are like the main ones, the chocolate and the vanilla, but I also really do like their strawberry banana. I also got iced coffee. And when in doubt, you could always go with a variety pack if you don't know which one you want. And at under five bucks a meal, it's top my routine and my budget. The director of this, Tom Day, I recognize his name because he directed failure to launch.
I've never seen that one.
Okay, that's a...
I need more rom-coms in my life, guys.
Yeah, that's true.
We just found that out.
I think that you should do that on this channel.
We're always lacking for rom-coms, I feel like.
Yeah, I would love to.
I mean, John just did, it was not a rom-com, but we did the notebook recently.
That was great.
Rom-Drom.
Rom-Drom.
He did, okay, so this director did failure to launch.
He did Showtime, which I've never seen, which is the Eddie Murphy, Robert De Niro movie.
Never heard of it.
Wow, we should do that.
I don't know this movie, and it's Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro.
Huh, okay.
I'd be down for I like both of them.
I love both those actors.
Failure to launch.
Marma Duke, he directed?
Marmaduke, yeah.
That's like based on an old comic.
Owen Wilson and George Lopez.
And three episodes of Snatch.
He just did a movie called Wedding Season and Jump Man.
All right.
So Tom Day, you're on my good list right now.
I thought you did a great job with this.
Should I pull up a little trivia?
for us? Sure, yeah, I'm down.
Okay, here we go. Oh, his last name
is pronounced die, even though it's
D-E-Y. His last name
is pronounced D-Y-E.
Tom D-D-I. I'm sorry I've been mispronouncing
your name the entire time.
I always think it's so crazy when you go
to the fun facts and
there are barely any for a movie
that's this big. His father,
Charles Dye, was
Associate Dean at Dartmouth College.
Huh. Interesting.
son of Charles die and Phoebe die
Those are those be the only
Is that a relevant fact of the movie?
Oh, oh I'm just on him
That must be
I was like that's great
That's cool to know
Thank you dear goodness
I'm like why is that
Why are there so little for a movie like this
Okay let's say this makes much more sense
According to the commentary
The fight scene with the horseshoe
Your Fave was nearly impossible to do
With a fake horseshoe as it was too light
Jackie Chan however refused to strike
any of the stuntman with a real horse shoes
saying it was too dangerous. Yeah, he would kill them.
It's obviously too dangerous.
The English translation of
the drinking game song is
one crab with eight feet, painted horns,
what a big crab, blinking eyes, shrinking head,
crawling, crawling everywhere, two and
two, who should drink, three and three,
who drink first,
five and five, who should drink
two and two, you drink first.
Oh, that's a lot of...
But how do you figure out who drinks?
I guess whoever says you drink first first, the other person has to drink.
Okay, Brandon Merrill, so our fave girlie, who plays Jackie Chan's horse riding Native American
wife, is a real-life rodeo champion.
No way.
As of June 2022, this remains her only movie credit as of today, 2025.
That's crazy.
The name of the Native American girl played by Brandon Merrill is never mentioned at any point in the movie.
Are we good?
Oh, we're good, yeah.
so her name's never mentioned at any point in the movie which we know but the credits list her character name as being falling leaves that's way better why don't you put that on our iMdb i like that name you should put that on our
fowlinglees as opposed to indian wife because i think anybody can edit i mdb that's kind of like wikipedia
i don't think so no i could be wrong i just like if i'm if i need to be on a credit for i mdb i have to submit it through imdb and they have to approve it yeah
so they approved indian woman i guess so that is wild
Fix that, IMDB, please.
Indian wife. Indian wife. Put some respect on Brandon's name.
Yep, exactly.
Falling leaves.
The name Martian Lath, Marshall Nathan Van Cleef is an homage to Lee Van Cleef,
who starred in many spaghetti westerns, yeah.
During the scene where Roy, Owen Wilson, and Sean, Jackie Chan are drunk in the hotel,
director Tom Dye hopped in, oh, hoped to include a drunken kung fu scene as an
homage to the legend of drunken master
1994. There was no time to
choreograph such a scene, so Dai
Shochon blowing bubbles from his mouth
as Wang Fei Hung does in the legend
of the drunken master. That's cool. I didn't know that.
Oh, okay. The Chinese characters
shown in the background during the opening credits
are excerpts from the translation
of the frog prints. Cool.
Interesting, okay. When Royo
Bannon finds out the new member
of his gang is from Texas, he replies
Texas, are you insane? Owen
Wilson is from Texas.
That's cute
Wow
I like that wow
The catchy quote
I don't know karate
But I know crazy
Is actually a line from James Brown's song
Oh
I should have known that
I don't know
It's hard to know where something originates
Fair
You know
But that's cool
Credit to them
I'm glad we circled back on that
The scene at the end
Outside the Church
And heavily surrounded
is homage to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
The Sundance Kid.
Okay.
Well, there's a lot more facts, but I will leave you guys to look those up yourself.
Do you do the IMDB?
I want to guess what they got.
I'm curious.
IMDB?
No, I'm sorry.
A Rotten Tomatoes.
Oh, I was like, I've had both of them from my own days.
Bring it back.
Yeah, let me look at the Rotten Tomato score.
Okay, so we want to guess before we look it up.
In 2000, the scores are so inaccurate, you know?
Like, there weren't critics doing the same thing.
But this was super good.
but critics don't usually like comedies as much.
I'm going to guess because critics didn't like comedies as much.
I'm going to guess for critics, it's 63.
That's so crazy.
I was going to say 65, so we're really close.
Okay, so we're both in the 60s.
Audience, I'm hoping, is like 87.
I was going to say 89.
Okay, cool.
That's wild.
Let's go look.
Rotten.
I think it's so weird that there's no app for this.
There's no Rotten Tomatoes app?
There's no app for the, um,
It brings you to the website.
Rotten Tomatoes score.
Oh, I just wrote Rotten Tomatoes score.
I'm meant to type in the movie.
Jesus Christ.
Shanghai.
Shanghai noon.
Yeah, and we kind of understood why it's called that, but.
Reverse it.
Really?
Flip it and reverse it.
We get 80 on the tomato meter.
65 on the popcorn meter.
What?
So I guess 65 for the tomato meter, and you would guess 63, 65 of the popperm meter.
Interesting.
80 on the tomato meter.
Critics loved this.
Wow.
Critics loved this.
And audiences liked it.
Huh.
So I guess we align more closely with the critics on this one.
I guess so.
Good on the old critics of 2000.
No, I really dug this movie.
And I really was in the mood for this kind of movie.
And I'm really grateful that this is what we were watching today after the absolute disaster fest of technology we went through.
like thank you thank you it was a time yeah we came in and i was like how are you doing you're like
i'm great i'm like same l-o-l any final thoughts on shanghai noon other than we obviously want to
