Without further ado, let's get bigger. Let's get longer. Let's get up. Yeah, let Kenny see those. Yeah, I'm heaven. Oh, the credit song is about that guy. we don't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:31 That's okay. If you are listening to this on Spotify or iTunes or what have you, we just watched South Park bigger, longer, and uncut. That's right. I believe during the film, we confirmed seemingly by the plot that they were not able to swear. They were not. The entire film was about it. A film about censorship, a film about the absurdities of Americans' views on violence versus language.
Starting point is 00:01:55 The film about a lot of things that was Oscar nominated, according to Paramount. plus slash Amazon's the logo here. What are your thoughts? Good, sir. You know, comedy's a very tricky thing. It was made in 1999. And, you know, I know that this is a very popular show in the 90s. Still on.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Still on to this day. There's a South Park with a little logo of, what's his name's? Logan Paul. Oh, Logan Paul's energy drink. Oh, CRED. It's called Prime in our reality. They're calling it CRED. clearly they're still making stuff about the pop like that's a current thing right so that's an
Starting point is 00:02:33 ongoing uh but it's funny that it says not suitable for children underneath it which is kind of ironic considering it's a show about censorship that now has to have a disclaimer on it they lost uh and and like uh sorry i want to let you have your thought but i i with that in mind it's not i'm gonna not throw you under the bus this wasn't my type of comedy either i also think in the 90s it wouldn't have been my type of comedy whereas there was stuff in the 90s comedy is subjective and I can respect something for being of quality and not being for me and I hate to see that this is a film about we are so absurd in that we think violence is acceptable but language isn't and South Park had to add not suitable for children to its to its banner so uh oh sorry I didn't catch you off of that felt prescient uh yeah this was a not my thing um I did have moments that I did laugh though you know I think that they're commentary I think South park has always been known for that and their their twist on current events and the their unique perception or view on on how they contribute into the world and like what what they seem to be
Starting point is 00:03:42 the world's issues and yeah I don't know if it was the fact that it felt like it was for like kids learned to cuss for the first time or the repetitive nature of the jokes and like them I felt like a guy get it you know because I think comedy works best in rules of threes or if you just up the ante of the insurity and I think it didn't really follow that for me but I can definitely understand why people would like something like this movie bigger longer and uncut I think some of the motifs or the so the running jokes of Satan being kind of in an abusive relationship or were interesting and the absurdity of the fact that the Americans are after Canada for one because they're not really a country that is known
Starting point is 00:04:34 for being very antagonistic and two the people there are the source of the the cussing word they perceived and like I don't know it kind of speaks in that thing of like oh video games are ruining our kids but except that's more towards like violence and games rather than like getting to the rid of the issue but it was you know it's I want to be nice I don't want to be mean to the movie it's a tricky movie to review yeah yeah yeah for sure because it does have a following and we're not in not enjoying it ourselves not saying it's not funny to you or saying that we disagree with you if you find it funny I hope that like it's got a huge audience the show's been on for like 30 years I personally um when I was a kid the reason I said I think I've only seen
Starting point is 00:05:18 one episode is anytime I saw a clip, it really wasn't for me. I can appreciate the commentary on like how absurd U.S.O shows are. I can appreciate the commentary that like we're a very violent nation and we don't have a problem with that. We have a problem with like four letter words. Even this, this is on YouTube and YouTube doesn't let me say most of the words I say. That's been one of the hardest things about working on this channel and starting my own YouTube is I am not someone who thinks that it's okay to be so timid.
Starting point is 00:05:48 so my issue isn't with the film's choices it's just the style of humor i like what the film had to say i like its message about the absurdity of the hypocrisy of our choices of what kids are exposed to versus not i like the commentary on uh the way we pick and shoes um to rally for causes and like you know the way we get behind things those are all great it's just the humor which is the basis of the film isn't my type of humor and it sounds like not erin's type of humor either uh so i can appreciate that this was for a lot of people and i can appreciate like a lot of people I respect and admire love South Park a lot of people like you know lobbied to get on the show uh I just don't find the type of jokes funny uh like you know the people like knock knock
Starting point is 00:06:29 jokes or people like uh certain you know styles of humor that that it's so subjective yes I think uh smarter humor and uh in bits that are that are creative or or punning are kind of more my thing but yeah I don't know I was definitely like a Chappelle show guy in this era I think Shepal show started in like 2003 Chappelle show was right after this and that was my that was what I was watching for commentary humor yeah I don't know if I've
Starting point is 00:07:00 sounds so bad I don't think I've ever laughed less on a comedy I really it felt comforting that I found like 20% of it funny and you found like 5% of it funny It was comforting because I was like This is going to be a 30 minute reaction Because the movie's already short
Starting point is 00:07:18 And I definitely kept being like No for sure And that's not good for a movie that's 81 minutes No airplane was great I was like I was locked in the airplane I really don't want you guys to not let me And Aaron do a comedy again It's just so subjective
Starting point is 00:07:31 And like just don't give us a and I have a lot of respect For what these guys have done I like their commentary I like their Have you ever seen any of their videos about like the writing process No They're geniuses of storytelling I just think our sense of humor doesn't line up. Plus, it's a comedy that, you know, evolves with the time with South Park.
Starting point is 00:07:49 So I feel like if you're to watch something that's more of the 2020 or 2010's era, it might hit. But because this is a comedy that's trying to capitalize on what's popular and their technique of writing is also evolving as they've gone on over the 25 years. So maybe it is more a similar vein of humor, but they've kind of like fine-tuned a little bit more. But I can see the comments now, man. Like, it's going to be such a like, oh, they don't get it because they're so woke. Yeah. And that's what I'm trying to make clear. Yeah, we like comedy.
Starting point is 00:08:19 We like jokes. And but the subjective nature of humor means there will be jokes we don't think are funny while still going like, that is the quality of work that some people that find those jokes funny. Like, we're not saying the movies of poor quality. We're saying it's not our, or I'm not saying. I'm not speaking for you. I'm saying the same thing. I like comedy. Just this type of humor did not work for me.
Starting point is 00:08:40 I just think that it's they're trying to take advantage of the fact that they aren't able to do certain things on television and they really want to hammer that home. And I think the coupled with them doing that with the song, the type of songs they were doing, I can imagine like during the 90s or the early 2000s, like a lot of these songs could be played on repeat. I can maybe think of a couple right now that stand out as ones that would be like, oh, fun to like listen to casually, especially during this time, but a lot of them kind of like one ear out the other.
Starting point is 00:09:19 It's also, I mean, it's super, one, I'm not a big musical guy, but also like the humor being sophomoric and not evolving and not having any layers beyond like the messaging has layers, but the comedy didn't. Like, there's obviously a lot going on with the point of the film and what the movie's trying to say, but the comedy's very surface and that's not my type of comedy.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Whereas the airplane, like, there was surface comedy, but the slapstick also had stuff underneath it. And it was so rapid fire that even the surface stuff was like, it was like a rolling punchline. Yeah. And this didn't really hit for me. Yeah, like even, and it's not even that I don't like offensive humor like tag. That's why I brought up American Pie. I kept interrupting him so sorry. But that's why I brought up American Pie is funny.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Me and John are reacted to those movies. We've thus far at the time of filmings, we've seen the first three. I'm not sure when this is going to release. But we like those. movies because it has this thing of slapstick but also like up in the antsy on the humor something like airplane or blues brothers works for me because of the absurdity of the humor that they're doing even when i think of airplane which is the last movie uh coy watched at the time of recording this i think of that that one bit where like the woman's getting slapped in the chair
Starting point is 00:10:28 and like it starts off as like something that's like oh like i guess how people would see that funny but the thing that made that funny for me was doubling down on the absurdity of the situation while having a line of people go with different weapons to go like beat this woman up. But, you know, I just don't think this movie escalated its humor in the same way. It was just kind of on the surface telling the same joke over and over, which I don't know. I feel like you got one, you got to switch it up, but two, I don't know, just I just need a little bit extra something. And I don't know if it's the type of humor or it's the type of humor coupled with the time that it came out but it just yeah it wasn't my cup of tea but i'm i'm curious to hear what
Starting point is 00:11:12 your favorite element of south park is or why you guys really gravitate to south park because yeah i feel like we all have subjective experiences when it comes to these kind of things and yeah what what is it that that drew you to it also was your favorite part of the movie i'm curious about that yeah i i this is now people think i like everything here you go um i was really finding jokes for myself to laugh at. At no point was I just laughing. I was going like, okay, we found it. And that's not good for my experience. And again, I... You don't want to do the work. Yeah, and I was working. And like, I was looking at the time and I
Starting point is 00:11:50 just, it's not, it's not my thing. And I have a lot of respect for the two guys who make this. I have a lot of respect for the message. I just didn't find the humor. My sense of humor. So hopefully it is your sense of humor. That is going to do it for us. As Aaron said, let us know what your favorite bits are, what, you know you would date about the movie and I'm ever so happy that comedy is subjective because most people most the comedies I like aren't for everybody uh like at one point uh Fox Searchlight actually had me go to screenings for one of their comedies because I laughed so loud that I became like an invert and laugh track to make people like laugh more oh no way literally uh do you see
Starting point is 00:12:22 bansansanseran yeah we talked about it on the last one yeah we did so banshees uh literally like it I screened it before the movie was out and no one was laughing at the screening I was at. And I started laughing and it caused people to feel like that release so they could laugh. And then like two weeks later, Fox was like, do you want to come back and do that again? I was like, yeah, because I love that sense of humor. But it's such a different uncomfortable sense of humor that I don't think a lot of people know what, they don't know how to be public about like that darkness being that funny. And that's my sense of humor. But it was funny to be with an audience that like they needed permission to laugh, I felt like. And this is something
Starting point is 00:12:57 where like I'm sure at the time this was crazy and like so bold it's just not my sensibility but banshees might not be the funniest thing to you or kiss kiss bang bang or not mind it the funny thing to you I think it's the funniest movie like I think I think kiss kiss kiss bang bang and in Bruch are my two favorite comedies of all time
Starting point is 00:13:12 but when I watch those with people I'm laughing at least five times as much so it's just it's subjective so much love to people that love this much love to the people that made it wasn't for us let us know if there's a comedy more in the airplane thing let us know what other types will experiment We'll play around with stuff.
Starting point is 00:13:28 But yeah, we're not probably going to watch South Park, too, if there is one. That is going to do it for us. I hope you enjoyed this very curious Erin and Coy turns out don't love everything. Reaction to South Park. Appreciate you being here. Leave a like, leave a comment. Hit that subscription bell for us actually enjoying other things. We'll see you next time.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Bye-bye.
