Starting point is 00:01:07 Ready to get the show on the road? I'm so ready. Let's do it. Wow, not even one step closer to the games. Reject Nation, I'm here to interrupt this video just for a little bit to let you know that for a limited time at RejectNation shop.com, we have exclusive apparel, just like the one. I am wearing right now on my body. This is a reject sweater, the brainchild of the she-jacks, Tara Erickson and Roxy Stryor.
Starting point is 00:01:38 They really were like, you know, we don't want to just only do a Christmas one. We want it to be a full holiday celebration. I absolutely love this design. I've been wearing this sweater an awful lot wherever I go. It's a fantastic thing for you to gift yourself or to gift to someone else this holiday season. And the other things that were launched were the brainchild of one Aaron Alexander, something that I was jealous that I never thought of. And that is the Scar Bucks Coffee.
Starting point is 00:02:02 They got the Scarbucks hoodie. They got the Scarbucks Coffee mug. There's also the Rejects mug as well. There's also an addition to that, the Agatha Bruce hoodie. I absolutely adore all these designs. I am so impressed with the three of them. We're able to concoct, along with the amazing artists who help support them, of course. We really care about finding material that fits very comfortable.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Is it comfortable or comfortably? Language. And on top of that, too, designs that we really feel resonate with us and can also resonate with those who watch us. You beautiful reject citizens. There's a barcode here that you can scan if you want to go to this shop. Or you can go to RejectNationshop.com. Treat yourself or treat someone else. Either way, it's a great way to support the channel and to support your wardrobe collection.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Anyway, guys, well, we would just watch Squid Game Season 2, Episode 1. We got many more minutes, hours to get through. And I leave for my honeymoon. On this note. To go next day. So we got to binge this stuff. And so we'll keep the talking short and reserve the longer talk for the final episode. But in terms of a debut episode, the kind and courteous thing to do would be to let John go first.
Starting point is 00:03:11 But admit you're a piece of shit. The odds of you stating a good opinion are one in five. You could just cheat and throw the mic to me, but... Yeah. No, I accept the rules of the game. I have a piece of trash, and I crawled out of the dumpster in order to give you this reaction. I thought this was a terrific episode, and I've been, you know, wondering, you know, the first season was such a splash and, you know, Galvin, caught the world's attention.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It's the most streamed show on Netflix ever. And, you know, a little bit of me was like, I don't know, man. Like, it was such a piece of its own. And then, you know, to then be expanded into a sequel, there's just treachery along the way. And we're only one episode in, but this episode was like a slam dunk. like this was compelling top to bottom i loved all the you know the expansions of the story you know where gui hun is where junho is you know kind of easing us into the here and now when they had that time jump even i was like i don't know about this but uh this was yeah like as a continuation of
Starting point is 00:04:14 the themes and a further just uh deepening of the rabbit hole even though you know we're still in regular korea like we haven't even seen the inside of the machine yet you still feel like you've only scratched the tip of the iceberg and I think that's really beautiful because I don't know if they ever intended this to go beyond one season but it does feel very natural as of now and yeah I love following those two guys around that he hired and and the man in the suit I just cannot say enough about that actor like he is so compelling to watch I'm sad he's gone but this was like even though this episode wouldn't really be complete without the rest of the season.
Starting point is 00:04:54 This felt like a little film in and of itself, and I loved it. Yeah, I thought this was a really strong first episode. This is one of the reasons why I think Squid Game Stand so strong is because this is just really great filmmaking. The attention to how they decided to use the camera to actually present a little bit more of a franticness, a little bit of a Paul Greengrass,
Starting point is 00:05:14 but not so extreme to the point where you can't see what the hell is going on in the way a Paul Greengrass film is. I don't have a headache. Yeah, there was a very intentional use of when to use Zoom, is a lot of cool whip pans. It was directed with a sense to make it a little bit more tense, a little bit more taut. That way, you know, you feel the chase.
Starting point is 00:05:31 You feel the rhythm of the chase. You feel the rhythm of the chase. At the same time, you do feel the period of time of the exhaustion of just trying to find this one guy. But apparently didn't know he was being hunted all this time. It seems like he really learned it this day that he's been being hunted this entire time. Maybe he just hasn't been out there. Yeah, maybe. yeah that just must mean the games are starting back up again or something like that right must be just right now is the time it hasn't been the time until now but i think this was a fantastic first episode for for the season because it seems to be a little bit more reflective of i think it's going in a different direction like the first episode the first season was really strong in the way of how like yes it's very deep it's really philosophical and there's a lot of social commentary and
Starting point is 00:06:20 And this one seems to be, at least with what they were kind of indicating of like a bit of like an introspection of the first season via through its characters, you know, of what, especially for like someone like, you know, like, why can't you just let this go? What is this sense? There's this semblance of like pride and what mask do we wear. Like that scene with the homeless people I thought was a really fascinating one because you're like, I don't know why this guy's doing what he's doing. But I think there's a little bit of. transference that you could place via this information that he reveals to Gihun before they play Russian roulette about like maybe his dad was one of the like I feel like he's punishing his is this is his way of justification yeah like because when he's crushing the bread he is um there's like a bit of an anguish that's coming out of him like it doesn't take a lot of strength to crush bread yeah there's like something emotional yeah bleaching this raw energy that he's the rest of the time keeping so contained in his facade yeah and i feel like this is his justification for why he does what he does and why he did kill his own father is because of this kind of shit and as i was saying you made this choice it's like he's done his dad like no you deserved it so i think that whole you could have chosen the bread but instead you followed this this you know gambler instinct of yours that you just can't control you can't help yeah and to see so many people make that choice speaks to the human nature and and the
Starting point is 00:07:54 thing that they're testing in these games in general it seems like yeah it's your fault yeah um you chose this so i think that because it's like i love the context of how that one scene plays interesting because this is a as much when you get it with oh my god i i'm just so bad at like knowing i even say gihung guion's name unconfident because i'm like i was in it right i say so unconfidently so I just tend to refer to them as the I know who they are really well but when it comes to saying their names out loud with the camera pointed out of me I'm like I'm a little nervous the cop the main cop character and of course um you know geon they are more of like the plot driven mechanic but it's all kind of shrouded in this character piece about the guy in the suit
Starting point is 00:08:38 yeah which I thought was a really compelling first episode yeah and sort of like the the hooks that this world of pining for riches can place on one's soul. They're really good at drawing you in from the outside and then choosing a really apt moment to pull you into the inside. And that was something that the first season, even just revisiting it on a speed run, kind of illuminated to me is like, you know, when you get, especially in the first half, those, again, clues and reveals, they're very tightly wound and very rewarding. And I felt like this episode definitely had that, too.
Starting point is 00:09:15 You have so much following this guy, A, he's absent. Then you find him, and you're following him from afar and just observing him. And you're so much on the outside until the very end, you know, in these two Russian roulette sequences that really kind of pull you into him as a character, even though it is still, you know, being spoken through the rules of the game. I feel like it speaks to the sensibility they have in the writing that I think is really top-notch. guys this was an excellent debut for the second season people have been waiting for this forever ourselves included right what did you think about this debut are you going to miss the man in the suit give him a spin off that leads all the way up to the information that we already heard prequel series i want to see the origins of when he killed his dad yeah let's get to that moment and then and then when someone hands him a suit yeah here's how he got this suit oh my god and here's why he plays duchy or whatever that game is uh leave your thoughts down below let's move on
Starting point is 00:10:09 to the next episode shall we mackenzie jackson welcome merry christmas mofo happy honica kwanza and all the other winter holidays what i know i just wanted to start off with a bit of humor we just say that to be nice a little bit of humor no one even knows if those are real holidays Unverified. Guys, listen, it's McKenzie's first patron of the day shout out. So you get the traditional. McKenzie, M stands for Minora to celebrate Hanukkah. Yes, and A stands for all through the night that Santa Claus is watching you sleep and be awake.
Starting point is 00:10:58 K stands for a killer because you are responsible for the death of Santa Claus. E stands for Emmanuel, as in, oh, come, oh, come, Emmanuel. N stands for, going off that, saying no at trial. What they're asking you, hey, did you murder San Diego? You're like, definitely wasn't me. And Z stands for Zoetrope, which is, you know, American zoetrope is a great film studio. and zoetropes just generally are an amazing concept. I concur.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yes. And then E stands for Eve of New Year's. What are you going to be celebrating? Who knows where? Probably with the Torah, because, you know, that's what Jewish people do. That's right. And you must be Jewish. You must be Jewish because we have labeled Minora at the top of this game.
Starting point is 00:12:02 That's right. That's why he kills Adam. So we did verify, actually, today that Hanukkah is real. Or at least the Jewish people are real. You know, Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.
