Starting point is 00:01:06 John, I am ready to stop talking and start watching. I'm ready to do it. Reject Nation, I'm here to interrupt this video just for a little bit to let you know that for a limited time at Rejectnation shop.com, we have exclusive apparel, just like the one I am wearing right now on my body. This is a reject sweater, the brainchild of the she-jacks, Tara Erickson and Roxy Stryer. They really were like, you know, we don't want to just only do a Christmas one. We want it to be a full holiday celebration. I absolutely love this design. I've been wearing this sweater an awful lot wherever I go.
Starting point is 00:01:44 It's a fantastic thing for you to gift yourself or to gift to someone else this holiday season. And the other things that were launched were the brainchild of one Aaron Alexander, something that I was jealous that I never thought of. And that is the Scarbucks coffee. They got the Scarbucks hoodie. They got the Scarbucks coffee mug. There's also the Rejects mug as well. There's also an addition to that, the Agatha Bruce hoodie.
Starting point is 00:02:05 I absolutely adore all these designs. I am so impressed with the three of them. We're able to concoct, along with the amazing artists to help support them, of course. We really care about finding material that fits very comfortable. Is it comfortable or comfortably? Language. And on top of that, too, designs that we really feel resonate with us
Starting point is 00:02:22 and can also resonate with those who watch us. You beautiful reject citizens. There's a barcode here that you can scan. if you want to go to this shop or you can go to rejignation shop.com. Treat yourself or treat someone else. Either way, it's a great way to support the channel and to support your your wardrobe collection. All right, ladies and gentlemen, well, we would just watch Squid Game episode two of season two. Hey.
Starting point is 00:02:44 And the game's afoot, ladies and gentlemen, the game is afoot. Yes, it is. We got a lot more to get through. We'll save for a big, long talk for when it's all wrapped up. But John, what did you think? What did you think? Deal me the voice of John. Continuing strong.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Continue to the cards. Keep it going. Keep going. This had the momentum. It had the intrigue. It had a nice, I feel like these two episodes have been a well-proportion act one. Just let it all out. Soffening those bowels.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Right. I'm here to get you regular. Let's do this thing. It's going to vibrate it out of your colon with my dulcet tones. No, yeah, I'm really enjoying the way that this is shaping up this. Act of one essentially being completed as of this episode. Yeah, just feeling the tension, loving the stylistic flourishes. I get what you mean.
Starting point is 00:03:34 It's like it's very noticeable how the visual language has changed, but I think it... Only to people like us who would notice that. Yeah. But it's very appealing. Sorry. Only to sophisticated intellectual, knowledgeable film experts. Such as ourselves who have made several of these shows already. but yeah i love the way that that complements the difference in tone like i think it's appropriate it's
Starting point is 00:04:00 noticeable you know if you pick up those kinds of things but also i think it does really enhance the tone of where gie hun's coming from where the motivation of the whole season is coming from and yeah i like the sort of uneasy way in which he and uh junho get on the same page together and agree to start working together and just the you know when you end season one you're like, okay, how is he going to take this on? And there are multiple ways you could approach that, but I like the way that they've drawn the grounding of that in terms of
Starting point is 00:04:30 like, okay, he had his old, you know, debtor. The old guy he used to owe money to was helping him, you know, figure out how to find the suit guy, and now he's got like these trained soldiers and he's got these weapons on hand. It's like you can kind of get the sense
Starting point is 00:04:46 for the phases of what his plan might have been, even though he hasn't sat down and been like, here's the plan, you know? And so there's a lot of really fun and intriguing, just world expansion in terms of like this pink hotel and everything and what, you know, Gihun's been doing. And then you have the alternate side with following this, you know, pink jumpsuit girl as, you know, she deals with both the circumstances of her own life that leads her back to the game or at least into the game under what circumstances she's there. And I thought that, yeah, in the first season, you know, you're introduced to the pink jumpsuits. as, you know, again, faceless cogs of this greater machine and then part way through, you learn like, okay, it's not as simple as just like these guys are, they're all people and they're all here for a reason too. And even though it's different from the reason that the game players are here, they're all still, again, kind of in a way, if you look at it from the right angle, sort of victims of a greater machine that's run by the investors that's run by, you know, the clients, the game masters.
Starting point is 00:05:48 The Vips. Yeah, exactly. And, yeah, all the, you know, steps they've taken up till now, you know, to track down and try and surveil and, you know, safeguard the operation as much as possible have felt very fun and conscientious, while also you know that it's not going to be enough to avoid getting back to the island. And here we are. So, yeah, I'm quite gripped. What do you think, sir? I haven't finding myself in theory world. It's weird when you're binging a show And I kind of don't like to be one of those guys
Starting point is 00:06:23 Who wants to completely theorizes I'm gonna find out my answer in like a couple minutes So there's no point of me really doing it I am curious though with the person who is pink suit If she is actually has a bigger play at hand Because if this was really something that panned out for her before Yeah That's just her strut to all this just seemed all too familiar
Starting point is 00:06:44 You know and they do seem like they are victims of this machine as well to some extent right yeah and i think that's part of the intrigue of what they're doing with this season which is kind of a bold thing to do where the first season's really you know the pov of someone who is a player invited into this game so you have everyone on the other side who is very it's very mysterious everyone in the suits the guy who's slapping you at the train station everything is very mysterious to do to the mask and now they're deciding to hey let's actually apply a lot of that cycle logical breakdown to who would be these people why are these people on the other side now and not just make it people who are sinister like let's let's really psychoanalyze them or at least
Starting point is 00:07:34 give you know little nuggets and sprinkles throughout the way like to to take who this woman who i feel like is supposed to be some type of mirror reminder of don't know how to say her name She's amazing in the first season. Yeah. Side bio is how I say it in my head, but I read the whole thing, you know. But you know that character, the woman from that one, like so much of that seemed similar and a reminder of her that I actually just assume, okay, I guess they just replaced her. That was going to be one of my, like, quote unquote criticisms was, okay, they just replaced her with like new young woman who wants to take care of child. Sure.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Oh, but I see what they're doing now. the flipperoo that she is not someone who is a participant in the game she's showing that oh two sides of the same coin that kind of whole ordeal like oh you never know who's actually behind that mask as well and they did that with the guy who was the one slapping them and everything the dude in the suit in the first episode like hey let's really actually um because like you were even saying in the first episode when we were watching it I don't really want to know who this guy is but I also want to know who this guy is and then they showed then they told us with a with a nice monologue of who he is and now they're kind of doing the same thing here they we were getting a little bit of a breakdown of why the brother the was a game master not the game master the captain yeah why they do the do mask the brother yeah of what potentially let him this path where he fell astray like it seemed like he was if my memory is serving me correctly that even though it we just watched it is he had a wife wife died yeah he was also such a great guy gave his kidney to his brother
Starting point is 00:09:21 step brother that's even greater yeah and you know major points there really trying to get approval really selfless sad but then after the loss of his wife he started do like spiraling already which eventually because if i'm not mistaken they say that he's like one of the winners of the game right like when they found the file in the last season which led him to the game and now here's where he's at uh so yeah yeah so i like i like what they're doing i like the choice actually and i like how different this feels from it still feels part of the same universe in the same world still feels like a sequel to the the first season yet it's still so different in the way they're doing it
Starting point is 00:10:03 and they got a real like the way they handle mystery via the way they shoot it a lot of it is down to the uh the povs of keeping it locked on who which which character are we following in the scene so it really capture like the distance of when okay like for example when pink suit people are walking into the club on the Halloween party like you keep it locked onto the characters you're with you don't cut across the street and do a close up on pink suit people you just keep it to where you're at with our characters from the car watching our cop from the car watching and you get you you get really into that POV and there's there's something that feels like more surreal yet more real because
Starting point is 00:10:47 they're like you're not used to seeing them out here in like the regular streets and I like kind of the oddity that provides that there's something they're doing isn't really cool here that it's very unexpected because I did see the um uh I thought like the teaser a while again I'm like okay they're just going to go back to this quick game I don't really remember what I saw on that teaser trailer. Yeah. And, you know, the posters are everywhere in L.A.
Starting point is 00:11:12 So it's like, yeah, we know Gihon's going to go back to the game. Yeah. But I like how it's, he's working with a cop. He's got the tracker
Starting point is 00:11:19 in his teeth. I think that's smart. I think it's really smart. And the evolution of the Gihon actor, in the States, the relationship with him as an actor's kind of specific
Starting point is 00:11:32 because he was introduced to many of us via Squid Game. And then he shows up in the acolyte. And he tends to be like the standout character. He's incredibly, he was really, really good in that show. And that's very different than Gihon, a very poised, he's Jedi, you know. And then here it's kind of like a blend of those two, which is cool.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Yeah, well, I was thinking here too, because, again, the first season, such a phenomenon and so striking. And that's that thing of, like, sequel territory of any kind or continuation where there might not have been a plan for that can be treacherous. But I think this is actually really conscientious, too, because being that he won and has the feelings that he does and the motivation that he does to put a stop to this, to find them and to put a stop to this, he has the means that none of the other players have, which is all that money. And it's the resource that the people who control this use to control it, you know, and it's even though he's not going to have, like, the money functionally while he's on the island, there's still something different about the fact that he has been operating with. with all these newly, you know, orchestrated means. Sure, yeah. He has the weapon of the rich essentially to take them on now in some capacity. And I think just symbolically, that does sort of bolster the idea of like, yeah, that's why it's this story.
Starting point is 00:12:53 That's why we're following this guy. That's why we're continuing this story because this is the guy who's going to take that blood money and try and wash everything clean with it. And I do like the bits of philosophy. They push back and forth of like, oh, what, you think you're just going to step in and be a hero? this is not going to stop until the world changes and there's even like a you know in a jigsaw kind of way there's like a sick morality that at least it seems like the game masters are trying to
Starting point is 00:13:19 operate on whether or not they really believe in any of that or not is you know kind of remains to be seen but I think they those allusions to society human nature etc. are interesting well I kind of agree with captain here you know I don't know if this season will suddenly end on this hopeful note about here's where humanity can get to one day we are a world that is insanely ruled by money like wildly ruled by money oh yeah I guarantee like most people who watch this show it's a virus in a lot of ways it affects things that it shouldn't even even the director of this was like yeah a big part of the coming back for this was even though he's the writer director he said he didn't really get paid that much for the first season that they just honor the original contract, even though the show became skyrocketing hit, they're like, no extra money for you.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And this was to help offset some of them to get some more money. He even said it. He should go back to the game. It's like, oh my God, this guy fell into his own world. But that's beautiful. That doesn't mean, though, it's not qualitative. I still feel the passion. I still feel the creativity.
Starting point is 00:14:31 It's not about the money. I still feel the care. And yeah, it's like even though some of it could be rooted in. like yeah we want to i want to earn some money i want to get some of that back doesn't mean he's like making a piece of shit property again thus far it does not feel like that's not not not it wouldn't have taken this long yeah right now it still feels really highly qualitative and different and i really like it a lot and uh i think like that's part of the the philosophy battle is you know when they saw the scene with the homeless people in the first
Starting point is 00:15:00 episode and now you're going to this scene um that this conversation the game is simply a reflection of society and i think that's kind of the what's at odds here that's what that's what they're battling up against yeah because the guy the captain of the game kind of has a point yeah i kind of agree with him everybody kind of made their own choices to land themselves here yeah everybody accepted the game and like that's this that's the reality of the situation which is unfortunate and it's not like the hopeful thing but i think mr bese was did a freaking game inspired by this there was like you missed the point but i'm like but also Netflix, you know, generated so much money off of this thing that is making a point.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Yeah. And it costs millions of dollars to put together the thing that makes a point. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, and Netflix of itself is a massive corporation, you know, with its own, you know, goals and ends. Yeah, yeah. So it's a sense of irony. You're always at the crossroads of this complexity. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Yeah. But I still love the show. And I think this is great so far. I can't wait to watch that we're finally getting into the games and I feel like the weight is worth it. Alrighty guys, well, what are you feeling about Squid Game Season 2?
Starting point is 00:16:13 Leave your thoughts down below. Happy Halloween. You know, if we were going to be in the Squid Games, I'd want Ian Simon there on our team. Most definitely. I think Ian Simon would be a big help. Or we could use him as cannon fodder. But that's help.
Starting point is 00:16:34 That is help. that helps us big part of the squid game he's got to establish power and dominance and influence john that's true and you've got to like forge alliances that you can manipulate later emotional fear is a big intimidation factor that's and i feel like ian simon is an incredible guy who can absolutely be manipulated but oh that's the genius of an ian simon ian makes you think he's being manipulated but really you manipulating ian is actually just ian manipulating you you are the foil that's right you are the joke you are He knows that this is just all big part of his big little game in order to win that $41 billion or whatever that accumulates to, I believe, in U.S., around $150.
Starting point is 00:17:17 That's right. Oh, my goodness. You could buy yourself at least one. Buy yourself a minimum wage job for that money. You could buy a job. Just walk into a kinko's and be like, I would like to purchase one job, please. Done and done. My career is set.
Starting point is 00:17:35 A lot of people died for me to get to this job. I could have applied, but you know what? That's too hard. It involves the risk of not getting the job, or is this way you know? And now you can live out your days. Wouldn't that be a great Ian Simon gig? Mm-hmm. Ian, look, man, I hope this holiday season, a lot of people die in the name of getting you employed.
Starting point is 00:17:54 So, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and I hope that 2025, you can eventually get a dollar raise. See, buddy. Thank you.
