What do you mean one more game? One more game, my ass.
Uh, one more game my ass.
It's a smart device.
You stop and start episodes midgame.
Well, guys, we watch Squid Game 2 by 5 and I need a snack.
I'll tell you that much.
Well, good.
You get a cookie and some fresh milk.
Oh, ha, ha.
I get it.
Like the Squid game.
That's right.
Uh-huh.
That's hilarious.
I don't think I've heard of funny.
joke all day.
That's actually the next game is you have to do a
successful stand-up routine for five minutes
off the top of your head.
If you don't get enough laughs.
With a gun pointed out of you.
You get a minimum of five laughs
and we'll shoot you on site.
Oh man, that's hard.
Yeah.
We are a game. Okay.
Well, Jod, please. You know the drill.
Yes, yes. What did I think
about the episode? Yeah, yeah.
I thought whatever you think.
I'll not pretend to pay attention.
Don't worry.
all right um no this i mean this has been a really terrific season thus far i've said this before but you know
given the passage of time and given the phenomenon of the first season i was like i don't know man
i don't know how this will go but this has been a really rich season and i really have enjoyed the
writing especially i mean you know the the world of the games is great and i think the way they've
subverted the games has been a nice it's been really nice to to be on the receiving end of you know as
squirmy as it is because yeah you get that first rush of regular red light green light and then just
seeing what the next games will become has been a really fun sort of game in and of itself being
introduced to slightly new things uh and sort of as an outsider as an american you know just sort of
trying to figure out you know the the little rules and nuances um but i like the debates of this
episode a lot i liked just the opportunities this afforded to again continue interrogating the
whole nature of the game at least from the
player's perspective and then getting the
little bits between
you got it
Inho
and Gihun
like them debating John
you nailed it. General
you know actual philosophy of the
greater game from
what Gihon does know is you know the
inside and
yeah you know I think each
adding the
every game we vote component I think is
nice because it opens up these opportunities for it's a mechanic but i think it's a conscientious one
because it then shuffles the board again and gives you fodder for interesting conversations and
and it keeps kind of probing that idea of the bargaining and the gambling that everyone's doing
and why and you know what truths still have yet to be uncovered for certain people and their
motivations uh and they're just nicely drawing tension out of
every little thing like you know that that whole thing at the door
when she's like begging to just let them go to the bathroom was like one of those things
where i'm like god is this going to open up the opportunity for one of them to get shanked
is this is going to be really demoralizing like humiliating situation
there's a moment like that in season one there is yeah no absolutely with uh with uh
but um yeah i i i know with the lady oh oh oh oh yeah yeah yeah yeah where she begs them to
yeah um but yeah i liked how that was handled he
and just the opportunities for, yeah, this interesting little trio.
I mean, there are so many overlapping Venn diagrams of character relations,
but I feel like our little underdog team there whose names I would like to commit to memory,
but, you know, it'll take a moment, but, yeah, watching as like the mom.
It's really easy.
Transwoman.
Transwoman?
Old woman.
Old woman.
Pregnant women.
Old woman's son.
Old woman's son.
Yes.
But even that, like even starting off.
I think the conversation and the involvement they've had with the trans character especially has been nicely handled.
I mean, you know, it's...
John, whenever there's a trans character, they are shoving their opinions in my face.
They are shoving their agenda, but, like, you know, it stands...
Just the second they exist, they are shoving their opinion.
Yes.
And I mean, certainly...
For those who are new, this is...
This is...
This is...
Satire.
I mean, you know, there is one...
trans character, which, you know, as a cross
section... There's too many!
Yeah! Get them out of here!
But no.
They're not in real life. They don't, yeah.
This is not a proper reflection of society.
But yeah, you know,
the presence that that actor has
has been really nice because so much
of their performance has been
kind of... It's taken
a while to get the vocal
clarification on who are you? What is your story? Why are you
here what's your motivation for staying and continuing.
And it's like as sympathetic as that character is,
I think it's interesting to watch the choice be made
because of how alone she is in the world.
And she's finally here finding a couple people
that she's got kinship with.
And I'm sure, you know,
it's not really about spending more time with them
or anything like that.
But it does create this interesting opportunity
for real compassion to enter her life
in a way that it doesn't feel like
has been present at all.
And watching as the older,
you know, as mom, you know, in her own way, comes around to just by being forced into the situation
and getting to know this person under the surface a little deeper, in her own way, at least,
is coming around to, you know, having a more benevolent approach to this person.
And at least, even if she doesn't fully get it, she's at least trying to understand and be accepting.
And I think it's been nicely performed and nicely written thus far.
I mean, certainly, yes, it is a conversation that is very relevant.
and any time it pops up, everyone's like,
ah, you're pandering.
But I feel like here it doesn't feel like pandering.
And I think it is inappropriate
because this show is going for a cross-section
of so many parts of society
and how the vicious cycle of, you know,
finance, debt, all that stuff affects everyone
for different reasons.
I think it's a nice thing that they included here.
John, when my children are watching Squid Game,
they're going to get influence.
They're going to become trans on the spot.
And now that begs a bigger question.
why am I letting my children watch
You know, I want to let my children watch violence
Without some hidden agenda
That I'm ignoring when it comes to, you know, society and, you know, money
But this agenda, I don't like this particular agenda
Because I can see it and it's obvious
No, no
All right, well, might not if I step up.
Please jump in.
There's plenty more to talk about Thanos.
I love Thanos.
He's my boy.
Thanos is right.
Yeah, it's like the, I forget what the writer's name is,
but it's like he spent the last couple of years going,
why else would people be broke?
Yep.
What are some other reasons people would be broken today's world?
And what are some reasons that aren't just I couldn't stop?
Yeah, exactly, yeah.
I think they found a lot of different nuances to what that could lead to.
It's still primarily that.
Yeah, but at least you get, oh, I'm here.
to try and help my family member or yeah my i yeah i thought that was really heartbreaking and kind of
beautiful that whole like i got to be liberated and and live as myself and i lost everything in the
process and am covered in debt now yeah exactly so i think they they've done a really good job
constructing um different elements because again you tread territory automatically of like hey
this can feel repetitive it automatically opens up the door to have a comparison i like
I like those
tweaks and adjustments they've made
because you have like these
in the last season it was like
all right you're focusing on like three people
no four people
god damn it five people
Guyon's team yeah they had one team
now they have this whole other team
of people with different sets of circumstances
who you're not
really seeing interact with like
Gehan
on the Yan side which is a completely separate team
which maybe will they will interstate
at some point in a more direct way and I like that of because it kind of begs the question of like
sometimes you have if you are in a position like this maybe you do have like no other choice or when
you feel like that I'm not saying you they do when you position people to feel like you have
no other choice but to go down this route it makes for a compelling debate and beyond everything
that you were just talking about which I do agree with they've been making these choices that
just keep surprising me you know when it came to the debate time of like using the motif of
they all vote now every single time versus it has to be a majority vote if they want to vote
because they drive home again the theme of of the debate between gihon and character
Inho
Inho
Between Gihon and Inho
Of, hey, you know
Once people change
Then the games will change
What the games exist
Because people don't change
So to have the choice of red pill
Blue pill every single time
And getting hit with a dose of reality
Every single time
Does drive home that debate
And theme even more
Of what they're going after
But eventually
They're going to see
The prisoners
Are not going to detonate the bomb
on that boat and the Joker loses.
That's right.
Millions of people are willing
to believe it again.
Yeah, so
they, I don't know how it's going to end.
I really don't.
And I like that so much
because whenever it feels
like we're going down familiarity territory,
they just completely take a
different turn and they're doing that so
much with Inho.
I was so surprised
when he is the one who spoke up
because it seems to be the end.
It's like the guy who wears the mask
is a totally different person
and the guy who's not wearing the mask
and the part that seems compelling is
it doesn't seem like he's,
let me push some buttons
and make some points right now.
It seems like he's come from a genuine place
or he's channeling his former self
or some shit.
Like I don't fully know what he's doing.
And I love that.
Yeah.
I love that.
That we probably won't really know
what's going on with him
until we're at the final stage
because it really seems like
this might be a predictable avenue
of why he would thrust himself into the game
to kind of like twist the knife
and mess with Gihun a little bit more
and then it seems like that
he is thrust into that from
almost dying himself
like a botching the game
or maybe that was intentional or not I don't know
maybe it was a big con game
but I like that kind of fun and games that they're doing with the audience
again but like oh we're going to have number one be here
now that we know who number one is
let's really confuse the audience
on what he's doing
on why he's behaving this way or why he's making
certain choices that you might not expect
where he seems to be going
down the Gihun set of beliefs
and the Gihun is questioning
if he should have the beliefs of the captain
of Hino. I think
it's so smart. Yet I'm like
but is this sincere
of what he's doing?
Do I just buy it?
Yeah. Is it a
combination of it all
or is it an act? I don't know.
know and we don't know but that's part of the fun of the journey that I think they're doing
whilst um having like some really good heart-to-heart moments like the conversation that
guihan has with his friend of kind of going back to who he was before yeah finding the humanity
before he became like stoic action hero badass guy with a lot of money who just fills it out left
and right for his own Bruce Wayne shit yeah yeah well and two I really love the performance uh uh the
Inho performance because
He's the best one character
Yeah, no
And I mean
It's my personal
Him and the old mom
Yeah
The old mom
The old mom is yeah
It's like
She captures your heart
And she's fun to watch
And like she brings a genuine
Spark of joy
Whereas Inho
Like the subtlety
Like when he's being
The player
When he's being zero one
Like he has a very
Kind of genuine
He's not like the most
animated guy
but he has a very genuine quality
and then they keep cutting to these little moments
where he's observing Gihun
and like there's
super subtle it's not like he's standing there going
wah ha ha you know it seems like he really is
kind of studying this guy
from a genuine place of at least
kind of interest
but like he and not even necessarily respect
there's there's something there of like yeah
he seems to recognize
the you know
conviction that
Gihun has and
he is kind of like
joining it's like there is this thing
happening where it's just the two of them
having this conversation in the most
protracted way across all
of this and I feel like every little time
that they show just those brief
moments where he's calculating or he's
observing like they add so much
and it's great because yeah at this moment you don't
really know exactly what
he's thinking or what the motivation is
and he does seem to be playing his role and there's a
little part of that where you're like I can kind of see how in entering the game he is sort of
embracing and accepting like yeah I'm just going to leave it up to the game and it does absolutely
make you wonder like was that thing with the top genuine like was he really just in the heat of
the moment and screwing it up and like really getting upset at himself seemed like he was and then
that little thing at the end you're like well he helped out gui hun and all of them to not die
but also like you know somebody in his triangle over here aware of like well there's
is the captain so you know we'll let this slide like you know what's the rule he pulled the foot out
and got the last you know uh kick on the little you know streamer thing and i'm like i could totally
see that going either way if it was anybody else you know or them being like ah no you cheated you know
um and so it's just like little flourishes and details like that you can wonder about and
i'm enjoying being here in these waning moments of mystery because we're about to embark on the
last two episodes so soon all will be some will be revealed anyway
but yeah like this is like really top not like a real hats off to to them for how it just seems like so much planning and and conscientious consideration has gone into this particular season like this has been really well proportioned and it feels really natural coming out of what came before it and it's up to them to stick the landing but this really feels like a sequel that is worthwhile and that is really adding to what has
come before i full heartedly agree john we got two more to get through we'll get there
then you know no no sleep till daybreak as you want i will say episode seven get ready guys
our break down let's do this two more thank you for being here and enjoy talking about every
individual episode um at the end of each episode we should vote as to whether we continue the show
or stop and go outside
the red button
the blue button
all right guys
leave your thoughts down below
we'll see you guys
soon
