More on them in just a bit.
all right ladies and gentlemen well we just watched percy jackson season one finale and prepper thanks for any of these down it's been a journey for tara and i been a mixed bag and we can both confidently say those two were the best episodes of this season i wish the rest of the show felt just played a little bit more to our sensibilities i suppose because uh from the comments on our patreon at least a lot of people soon to say that
the fifth episode is the one that we're yeah they said that last time and I'm like wait what about six though dude like the the pacing and the vibe of that was really great but we watched six and seven here seven and eight seven and eight I meant seven yeah I meant seven yes so good I say seven is my favorite one of them all yeah me too like the it just felt really good and the time kind of flew by yeah the world actually feels like everything they've been saying the
world is except you know with production and like realized because there's actually like sets and
and a vibe yeah per setting you know like you contrast it with the Haiti's underworld stuff
which feels very ominous and pensive and then you go up to Olympus which feels vast and
and scary like you got the one that's like the terrifying underworld and you got the one that's scary to be that high up in the clouds and the way the interactions were with the different personalities felt very rich right from like the opening of whoever that waterbed guy was oh he was great yeah yeah like from that into the interaction with hades and then zeus played by last reddick was a really great moment the whole thing with freaking mom talking about
talking with Poseidon to was a really beautiful moment like those flashbacks of I really like the way it pairs with having him grow up feeling like he's being like pushed away this whole time and now this ends off on a note where they're going to be working together with the truth now out there yeah there's something really beautiful about it and a lot of it seems to be about overcoming generational trauma which I like the deep I like the depth of the
that you're looking at the two sides of what you know percy and that luke guy are they're both
the pain of just being neglected by your family and then being used and stepping in whenever
they just want something from you in a way and or you're essentially being pawns and but you're
also abandoned and you see like zeus is going to war with his father you know like everything is
just a trickle-down effect and this is how this family lineage works
works and it's like trying to change cycles yeah with being good parents so hard yeah it's actually
like the depth of it really started a hit and the the nuance backed with an actually visually
realized sense instead of just cutting the actors who are saying what's going on but you just
kind of feel like people are in a play like that's what I felt like before I felt like we were like
watching a play yeah this time I felt like I was watching like an actual show so yeah
I really liked it a lot.
Yeah, I mean, it was good stuff.
I specifically really liked.
I loved the three-headed dog.
I thought that was very, very cool.
I like that the effects actually did make me feel claustrophobic
with the world that looks like it's like upside down
and we're walking on it.
It's the way that they set it up made it feel inescapable.
And then when he arrives to what I,
which kind of looks like the Wizard of Oz in my brain.
I mean, the scope of it was just so,
huge that I guess that's why we kept making jokes of like oh this is where they save the money for
these last two episodes but truly you just you don't realize how much a really good track of
music mix with a really good environment with a good director who knows how to go hey we need
to retake that line so it fits the whole thing can make or break a show and I think that the
and it could be the director
on episode seven, because I specifically made a comment about between the mom and the kid in the car when they're having a conversation, that kid had never acted like that before.
That to me is guaranteed that the director is feeding you a little something, giving you some emotional context to get you there.
And I also felt the same way about the kids as well in seven, which I really, really enjoyed.
I thought it was like grounded and their delivery, which we did complain about before, their deliveries seemed very neutral.
not very emotional sort of just like hey watch out for that god over there like whatever and in that
episode seven it seemed like it was filled with a little more fuel which i really really liked um and i think
that's what to me made the pacing go by a lot faster um and then eight pretty much a bit the same
but seven i think did a better job of it um so yeah i i had i had fun i guess
why people are like, oh, they liked a show.
It's just if the first two episodes were like seven and eight,
I think this show could have blown up.
I wouldn't have like been like, oh, man.
If I was just at home, I probably would have not watched it.
But I'm glad that I did because if you carry on,
then you're like, ah, we're getting somewhere here.
Yeah.
As long as if the world that they really get you to live in in seven and eight,
If you felt that world was truly there, even if we weren't there directly, then I think that would have, for us at least,
remained more of an impact.
This seems like with everyone else is kind of like, yeah, no, it did that.
But it just wasn't doing that for us.
Yeah.
We were constantly aware of sort of like the filmmaking seams and the acting and everything.
Like the guy who plays Percy really grew up me a lot.
I found myself when he did say, when he fights Airy,
and he does have that moment of like you'll know who I am like I really felt that line great delivery
and I was really connecting with him I will say I I never did reach the point though where I felt the
chemistry with the trio I never quite got there like I'm with you I'm with you they got to the whole like
we meet back here rovers like they'll hug and I'm like I feel nothing yeah and I didn't um yeah I didn't
I don't feel like they really have the chemistry there.
I just don't really feel like much of an ensemble trio thing, which could improve on season two.
But for your title character, Percy, I really found myself like, no, I really like the guy I plays person.
I really click with him and he brings a good amount of nuance.
Because his character seems very specifically, like, difficult on the emotional capability.
That seems like
That's what his character is
Kind of a repressed inward person
So I don't imagine he'd be like
This big array of expression
Yeah
And so that guy has to do a lot
To have it be internalized
And through the eyes
So what he's brain feels just appropriate
Yeah
Still I think there should be more chemistry
With the other two
And I just never quite
Reach those heights
No I mean it should feel like
You know
Sisterhood of Traveling Pants
Meets or stuff that they do with like stranger things
Where that moment happens and you really feel something
Like you feel like you might cry
This episode is brought to you by prize picks
The app that finally let me crash
My Wife's Fantasy Sports Click
Yes, I used to overhear her and her friends bonding
While I sat in the corner where my arms folded
Come to my home and I can't be included
Trying to pretend like, yeah, I know what yards after catch means
Just fell left out man
And then I discovered prize picks.
So here's the deal.
It's daily fantasy sports, not gambling.
No playing against sharks or betting against the house.
It's just you versus your own sports brain.
You pick more or less on two or more player's stats.
Like, will Luca Donchich score more than 30 points tonight?
Will Christian McCaffrey rush for less than 85 yards?
Sports things.
And if you're right, you win.
Another thing, too, it's fast.
You can make a lineup in under a minute, playing 30 plus states.
And you're not stuck to just NFRA.
or NBA. You've got MLB, NHL, college football, even e-sports. Basically, if it has stats,
you can play. And basically, I now can hang out with my wife and her friends.
10 years in the making. And when I get one right, it does feel good. So fellow reject, what you can
do today is you can download the Price Bix app. Use code Rejects to get $50 in lineups after you
play your first $5 lineup. That's code Rejects to get $50 in lineups after your first $5 lineup.
It's good to be right.
It's so symbolic, but that didn't really happen here, but, you know, the other stuff was good.
Like, I'm, I felt like he had more chemistry with Luke.
Oh, yeah.
For sure.
I really liked his chemist.
Like, the guy plays Luke is good.
Yeah.
And his, his, uh, I believed him as a good guy because I had the subversion at the very
beginning.
Right.
Where he seems like he might be the jock boy, but he's not.
right right guy and the guy places Poseidon was really good too i really like how he wasn't just
some like chauvinistic d-bag he you see that there was like a bigger reason why he left him alone
it probably has to do for the fact that he did love the mom's name sally that he did love sally
the setup for season two is really good honestly his last two episodes i thought like the seventh
episode i thought was great like these last two were just so much better they were great and
the scale of it was felt
and like the praises
that from acting to music
the music was phenomenal
right the visual effects were really good
the CGI was really good like
Tara and I think made a comment off camera
about how a lot of Disney plus shows
kind of look the same
like the lighting of them all look the same
from like if you watch the Star Wars shows
the Marvel shows and Percy Jackson
there's something where like you do a montage
trailer of all your Disney Plus shows and they all
kind of look like they're lit by the same guy
and that I didn't get that vibe with especially they probably are same team just moving from show to show yeah yeah yeah I didn't get you're right though but seven seven specifically eight though too because Lance was in eight right yeah yeah yeah those two I didn't I didn't feel like that at all yeah it felt like we were in different places an actual world and that's kind of what we wanted you know from the start but didn't fully get that it sucks Lance
the past because, man, he's a perfect
Zeus. He's so great.
I'm not just saying that to be kind because he's gone.
He was a perfect. He had that
regality where he
shows up and
you know, a lot of these characters are showing up
and they're just like in normal clothes or suits or whatever
and it's kind of funny, which makes it feel like
a play sometimes and
it didn't with him. No, God, no.
He's so grounded and so just
he gets it done.
All right. I mean, last two were really good.
I don't know how.
much audience we lost along the way.
Yeah. You know, they're
really good, and maybe we'll do season
two. Yeah. We'll see. We'll see.
We'll see if the views just keep dip in the way
they are right now, or maybe we'll give it a shot.
Who knows? Who knows? We do have screeners,
I think. Oh. I think we do.
Oh, like the first two. Okay.
We'll find out. We'll find out. We'll find out. It's a holiday season.
We'll see. We'll let you know. But
guys, we've got just a couple questions. You want
to knock them out? Yeah, let's do it.
Driving ahead. What did you think
of the Luke twist? I bet you were
not super surprised since Luke is also
a villain in the movie. The twist
blew my mind in the book and the movie really
failed to do Luke justice. Luke
is the friend that he fought with
at the end. No, I know, but is that what you're saying? In the movie?
I don't remember. Oh, I don't remember Luke in the movie
at all. The show version
affords Luke more perspective
even when compared to the books.
Luke almost succeeds in killing
Percy with a poison scorpion
in book one.
Okay. Okay.
wait a minute
I think he's in the second movie
I don't remember
and then
something attacks the school
I don't know
I really didn't like that movie
there was something attacks the cam
I think that's what he's talking about
okay
I don't know
I don't know if my mind
is making it up now
but I think he's in the second movie
but no actually I didn't pop it
in my mind when watching this
I didn't recall that until right now
I like
because what we did see
oh no we didn't uh the the the the poison scorpion yeah i didn't suspect he was bad until 15
seconds before they revealed i agree it was still a twist for me because i don't remember obviously
anything from the movie in what you're saying driving ahead so uh i thought i thought it was good
and i thought he did a great job i really like to fight choreography and that um it's a good time
yeah and i like when a show can give you a villain turn and have their argument
feel truthful.
Yeah, it felt like where I could maybe go,
he doesn't make a little sense.
I was like, you know, I've seen the show.
Yeah.
They're not very good people and I kind of agree with him on a lot of points.
Totally.
And the guy really sold it.
He did.
And the only reason why I even was looking out for is because of that warning the Oracle gave.
And I was like, and that's why I thought at first it was Annabeth who took the helm of Haiti's helm because I'm like, someone was supposed to betray him, right?
There was supposed to be some traitor, wasn't there?
and that's the only reason why it popped up
and then, you know, I can't like
celebrate too much by guessing something that got revealed
10 seconds later. Yeah, totally.
But it was, no, I was pleasantly surprised
but I thought it was really good. Good stuff.
Jay Rushden, what do you think of the surprise
that Zeus nearly pulled Leo?
What do that mean?
Okay, here's the
Oh, the Leo Point. Okay, that's what it means. Yeah. Once upon a time
in Hollywood, Leo Point, the meme.
Got it. Yeah. Thank you.
Okay. And also he says, sadly, Lance Frederick passed away.
But Deuce is a badass. We agree. I love Lance.
I remember when I saw John Wick 4, the second he popped on the screen, we all were like.
Because he had passed like the week before John Wick 4 was going to drop. It was wild.
But anyway, he's phenomenal. Love him too.
Yeah. We talked about it already during the review. Should have read that first.
But, yeah, missing Lance Reddick is a terrible, terrible thing.
That's a big loss in the industry.
He died way too young.
Yeah, he did.
I think he was only 50.
He just seemed so young when he died.
Yeah.
I'm so used to him with glasses.
Lance Reddick.
He was 50 something, right?
That's 60.
60.
Damn, he looked great for 60.
Holy crap.
Yeah, man.
Amazing.
That sucks, man.
well um guys thank you so much for joining us on this journey thanks for allowing tara and i to just
