So with that said, I think that's everything. Tara, what did you think of just your thoughts of Supergirl? And what would you think? I thought that it was a blastaroni.

Starting point is 00:01:51 Here's what I think. there is a very clear contrast between Supergirl and Superman, right? Superman, he's like a gentleman, he does the right thing. I really love a little bit how messy Supergirl is, especially like she is dealing with the trauma left behind from Argo, right? And it's sort of like the idea for Superman is there of like losing his town and his family. but like for her she was old enough to actually like see it and really, really feel it versus he was just a baby, right?

Starting point is 00:02:31 So I feel like her trauma is, it's realized it's there. She's living with it. So there's a really, a really good reason why she would operate the way that she is, why she'd crawl from pub to pub. I mean, that's just a lot of trauma and baggage that she has to be carrying around from when she was very, very young. So I thought it was a lot of fun in them displaying her backstory and why she is the way she is, why she makes a move she does, but she still does carry just like Superman does,

Starting point is 00:03:07 just be good because we saw that with what and how she helped. God, I want to call her Ellie. Her name's not Ellie. Ruthie. and how she helped Ruthie to not to not kill. She's like, I want you to be good in your life and I don't want you to carry that with you. And that was a, I feel like that was a really great storyline to show that she's not totally so far gone where she's like, I'm going to do whatever I want.

Starting point is 00:03:36 No, she's super, to me, I'm like, she's such a badass. And the fact that she killed Krem, I love that move. And I know it's a surprise. you know, Andrew, Andrew's our Superman guy. It surprised him. Yeah, I was like, I kind of said, I was like, oh, I hope she waits until she's gone. She turns around. She does it, right?

Starting point is 00:03:57 Because she's grown up. She can deal with it. And she did, and I loved it. And I thought this movie, it was a lot of fun. And Millie Alcock did an amazing job. Took me through the journey, emotional depth. I loved it. And Jason Mamal, a lot of fun.

Starting point is 00:04:12 Like, great casting, great movie. What about you, Andrew? So coming into this film, I had heard a lot of negative things. And when you hear a lot of negative things, I think, at least for me, it lowers your expectations when you're just coming into something. So as a result of that, I wasn't, it's not that I wasn't expecting something. It's just as I pointed out a moment ago, my expectations were low. And having said that, I had a blast. And I thought this was a lot of fun.

Starting point is 00:04:39 And as Tara just pointed, I'm just echoing what you said. I think the emotional journey that we go through with Kara, I really, I felt that. And it's because of the experiences that I've gone through in life and what she was going through and how, and I'm not a drinker. I really, I don't drink. I can't even in my current position that I'm in anyways. I couldn't if I wanted to. But I understood what she was doing and what she was going through with after losing

Starting point is 00:05:06 her parents and that she's drinking to numb the pain. And just get away from the responsibility. but she's still whole, her parents are still in her and she still has that preservation of being good. It's still there, even when she is in her drunk state. And I think the heart of the film too is her relationship with Ruthie, like trying to preserve her innocence

Starting point is 00:05:27 and making sure she doesn't go down that dark path. I really was, I thought that that really hit me and that resonated with me and I really appreciate it. I like their interactions, even though I thought it was funny how continuously she kept saying to stay and she wasn't. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:05:42 That was funny. Yeah, it was funny. But I thought that too, like it's, you know, from Kara's perspective, she's, she has to be in like 20, 30 different places at once. And she's not going to like lock her or stop, like put her in place like that. So it's understandable that this girl with vengeance on her is not going to stay. So she can only say stay. Totally.

Starting point is 00:06:01 But I thought it was a funny gag that just kept on happening. Yeah. And also, too, I really enjoyed Jason Momoa. He was a lot of fun. And he was, it was like comic relief at times, but also, too, you get that, uh, that bombastic, uh, you know, tough guy as well. And I thought he was just, he was, he was just a great contrast to, to go along with Ruthie and with Kara, uh, or car rather. And I, I really enjoyed his performance. He was so, he was just a, he was a joy to watch on screen and the action sequences with him when he's on that, that motorcycle and just riding around. A lot of fun.

Starting point is 00:06:38 What did you think about the villain? Krem. I thought that was the weakest part of the film, honestly. And look, I don't know the actor. Maybe I've seen him in something. I'm sure. I don't know, my there at all. I'm sure he was doing his absolute best. He probably prepped hard. He probably worked as hard he was. And he's being directed by a great director, Craig Jaleps, Gillespie. I'm so sorry if I mispronance his name. And I, I think he did the movie with Ryan Gosseling, Lars. Craig Gillespie is so great. He's great at the long shots and like 360. Yeah, I'm not criticizing the actor or the director. I don't know what I think it's more the script and how the script came up with the character. There's no depth to him. I don't know much about him other than he likes, he takes joy in, you know, killing people

Starting point is 00:07:27 or killing innocence and he's got a dark voice and he's creepy. But that's all I know about him. Right. There's nothing more to him. So I would have liked, I know that the film. really, you know, we're going to focus more on Supergirl and on Ruthie and on her backstory and on the stakes with trying to save crypto and just the stakes of there's a time clock. And I fully understand that. But if the movie would have been 15, 20, 25 minutes longer to give a little more depth to the

Starting point is 00:07:57 villain, I personally think that would have paid off more because I think even when I don't need to like the villain per se, but I need to just understand the villain's motivations and what he's doing and if he's just bad to be bad i mean there's been villains like that where i've seen that but i just like i said i think the main word here's like like a little more depth and i just i did not care for anything what this film was doing or have an understanding of perspective other than right he likes to kill people and well because you've watched smallville 127 million times is there anything in here that like smallville and this have in common or that you like because i've never seen smallville Andrew just watches it on repeat.

Starting point is 00:08:40 It's been a while, but yes, I have watched it 127 times. I would say, I mean, there's definitely some similarities. And what I mean by that is, you know, they're very different from Clark in terms of they, both Caras have that rage running through them. Okay. Even in Smallville. Oh, yeah. Okay.

Starting point is 00:08:58 She's definitely got that for sure, for sure. But she also, she doesn't listen to Clark very much. Yeah. She loves Clark. but doesn't doesn't listen. But also too, I mean, she's not front. She didn't grow up in Earth.

Starting point is 00:09:14 Right. She's got a different life experience. She's got some trauma. Yeah, for sure. So. Yeah. There have been times where I forgot to go grocery shopping. In fact, one time, my post-workout meal right before I'm about to go to work. I remember I got a slice of

Starting point is 00:11:17 It was. That's wild. I didn't know all of that. It sucks that happen. Yeah. And I will say to the, I like the actual song when they were playing that slow motion. I know you were singing in. I appreciate that you enjoyed it.

Starting point is 00:11:33 I'm not saying I didn't like the song. I just don't know. know if that song was the best choice in that moment. I don't know what song would have been better there, but maybe you don't slow down the seat to do slow motion that scene. You keep it going fast. You could even do color, you know, color me, that song. You could do that one or whatever.

Starting point is 00:11:53 I just don't know if that song fit the tone. It just was taking me out of the scene a little bit. Really? Because I feel like the song was singing to the girl saying like, it's going to be all right because it is a very girl forward song. I mean, there's probably a lot of, like, more hardcore kneel drops could have happened in that moment. I'm with you. But I think it was like the message for the girl that it was like going to be fine.

Starting point is 00:12:15 For sure. I understood the message and the song. Like it made sense in that. And when we were going slow-mo, 100%. It's just from the tone and everything, it just kind of took me out of it. Yeah. But I understood the message and what it was trying to say for sure. So it wasn't just like it was just random.

Starting point is 00:12:31 Like, what are they doing? I'm just talking about tone and how it made me feel. I hear you. I hear you. Let's get into some trivia, should we? Sure. I'll read one. According to Millie Alcock,

Starting point is 00:12:42 my cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman, that's cool. 1978 cape. And it says, yeah, I think they found there was like 16 meters of that material. So that's in the back of her cape now. That's cool.

Starting point is 00:12:58 That's cool. That's pretty awesome. Yeah, very cool. I wonder how they came up with the material to do that. That's awesome. I know they probably just, Warner Bros.

Starting point is 00:13:07 probably still just had it, you know, as a, you know, a keepsaker in the warehouse. I was like, well, we could use this.

Starting point is 00:13:15 Should we read? Let's do. Let's do like a couple more. Yeah, this marks Jason M.O.'s return to D.C. as he previously played as Arthur Curry Aquaman

Starting point is 00:13:23 in the D.C. extended universe from Batman versus Superman to Aquaman. He's also been campaigning to play Lobo for years. And when he first joined D.C., thought he would have been off for the part, but he was offered Aquaman instead. I didn't know that he had been. I had definitely heard that. And he was, I think we both thought he, because we, by the way, go check out our reactions to Batman v. Superman and the two

Starting point is 00:13:46 Aquaman's. But we thought he was great as Aquaman. He had a lot of presence in those films. But he just looks like Lobo as well. He does. So I can understand why he would, uh, want to do. Lobo is such a fun role. And, uh, he brings so much, uh, just gravitas and life to the character. So I could understand why he would want to do that. And he was, he's great as both. Totally. Jason Momoa.

Starting point is 00:14:10 Yeah, he, I mean, he's awesome. Another trivia says that James Gunn responded to a fan question on why Supergirl has ear piercings if she's bulletproof.

Starting point is 00:14:18 As explained in Superman, the same way she gets drunk, she goes to a planet with her red sun, not to mention. She was raised on a chunk of Krypton so didn't even experience superpowers until her team. That makes sense. Actually,

Starting point is 00:14:31 okay. Yeah. So it's always fun, like those little things. And I remember when we were, watching. We're like, wait, how is he going to do that? Yeah, totally.

Starting point is 00:14:38 It's always those little things, but I always love little answers like that. That's fun. Let's see if we have one spoiler here. It says, according to James Gunn in this movie, we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time. He's an infant versus Supergirl who were raised on a rock chip off Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways. The first 14 years of her life, yeah, Gunn indicates that this incarnation is an Argo City

Starting point is 00:15:04 survivor rather than being from Krypton itself more akin to her comic book debut in 1959 yeah and i'm sure coy would know that immediately but that's that's that's very interesting and i think too when the heard father zoro when he said that he was going to center to earth like he wanted it didn't sound like he was on the same page i mean correct me if i'm wrong or correct me if i'm wrong in the comments it didn't sound like he was on the same page as jarel even though we believe that that message was hacked by the engineer where it says i want you to to to rule earth or build krypton or something like that. Right.

Starting point is 00:15:37 It didn't sound like that's what his brother Zarel wanted more like be good and protect Earth. Yes, protect. He because he said protect. He said something about protect those who need protecting. Exactly. So it seems like if that's the real message, which I still, I'm sorry. I just, I don't, I know Mr. Terrific said in Superman.

Starting point is 00:15:57 I don't know. It's been confirmed and verified. That's real. I still think it was hacked. But we'll find out, I guess, in Manit tomorrow. or if James Gunn is being, you know, genuine and honest, I guess it's real. But if it is real, and that means, you know,

Starting point is 00:16:10 at least philosophy-wise and ideologically wise, that means Jarrell and Zorrell, their brothers, but they were on different pages when it comes to that. Right, right. Yeah, exactly. Which, you know, I mean, I think probably the most intriguing part about this film is sort of what James Gunn just said there,

Starting point is 00:16:32 of that we do see the, contrast between, which is kind of what I first said when I was like, I love this movie, but I love the contrast the most between Superman and Supergirl, that you can see the trauma and the baggage that she's carrying with her and the ways that she's trying to escape it, whether they're, you know, healthy or not. But she does end up helping, I do not know why I keep wanting to call her Ellie and it's freaking Ruthie. There's an E at the end, so I get it. Oh, man. But, But the way that she helped Ruthie, I mean, I love that because it really is just protect those who need to be protected. And Ruthie did need to be protected.

Starting point is 00:17:16 And I think the best way that she could have done that, obviously fighting off all the dick wads with her laser eyes and her strong punches. But also having her not kill the guy who I, as we know, I was like, let her put the knife through his freaking hard. And I was like all for it and not really thinking maybe with my full brain because she's a child. But I wanted her to have vengeance. But honestly, Supergirl's right. Kara's right. And like don't let this little girl kill this guy because you won't really feel better. There's a lot of right revenge, vengeance that can be had that you might feel better in the moment.

Starting point is 00:17:57 And then five minutes later, it's sort of like, God, now I have to kind of clean up this. look what I did kind of a vibe you know for sure and I think that's a thing too in smallville that carra wants to at points she goes on vengeful rages and wants to kill people and Clark has to tell her no that's not how we operate that's not what we do so that's why I was also as taking I don't again I don't know the character very well other than my my slight interactions with watching her on smallville but watching her kill someone I just I didn't know if that was something that happens in the comics because I know that's a very rare thing with Superman I know it was a lot of controversy obviously in Man of Steel and some people just did not like that so it's not that i didn't

Starting point is 00:18:37 like that i just was surprised by it but with a character like crem like he was pretty terrible yeah he was he was just so ruthless and brutal so like obviously for me we know me supergirl's my girl that's my that is my girl now because i'm like yeah kill them all kill kill kill them all they freaking suck. Especially like from the second that guy sat down at the bar and was like, people give a high pity for her. And I'm like, oh no, he has to, he has to die. All of them have to die. So I do love that they moved her to a point where she lets Ruthie walk away. And she kills the guy. I really like that for her character, whether it's right or not. Though I do think, though, Andrew, that maybe in the next movie, she won't do that because now she's

Starting point is 00:19:26 changing, especially when Ruthie says, are you going to go on the pub crawl? And she goes, no, I don't think I'm going to do that anymore. And now I'm like, okay, are we now going to see Supergirl be a little closer to the moral code of Superman now that she's not getting wasted? She sees like the straight and arrow of like, I'm going to be good and I need to protect the people who need protecting. That's a great point. I also like to echo what you're saying. I like in that last scene and that interaction between her and Superman. I could really, and this is great acting in my opinion by David Kornswight, you could see in his face and in his eyes and the visual narration that he was doing as an actor, how proud of his sister that, you know, she was sobered up and that

Starting point is 00:20:05 she was, you know, ready to take on the responsibility of what it means to do this and to wear the suit with pride and to be good and to do good and to protect others who needed the innocent. So I think that seemed like it was a fun interaction, but there's a lot of subtext going on when you just look at their faces visually too. So, you know, I like to look at those kinds of things. And I thought the actors did a great job just giving me awareness of that. Yeah, I would be stoked to see Superman Supergirl team up at a movie and fight together and do all the great things. We have Man of Tomorrow.

Starting point is 00:20:39 They're filming it right now. Oh, okay. The sequel is Superman 2025. Oh, okay. I have not looked at the cast. I don't know. I mean, you guys can let me know in the comments. So I don't know.

Starting point is 00:20:48 I try not to look at that because we don't want to be spoiled. Yeah. I mean, I might not be that big of a deal if we know who's in it. Yeah, for sure. But I mean, I just have not been, I try to, unless I'm doing a trailer reaction,

Starting point is 00:21:00 I try not to watch trailers anymore. I try not to, I try not to look at cast anymore. I just like going into movies like completely fresh. It's actually a fun type of thing to go into a movie where you don't know much. Yeah. But anyways, if you guys want to let us know in the comments,

Starting point is 00:21:15 if Millie Alcock is in the movie, it seems like she might be by this end. I would be excited. That would be really exciting. right? I would love that. That would be a blot. Like, for me right now, I'm like, I'm not, you guys know that me and Andrew watch all the supermans. We went through the whole universe, right? But I'm a little bit like with this movie, I'm like, oh, do I want to dress up a supergirl

Starting point is 00:21:43 for Halloween? Like, she's a badass. Like, I'm talking, I just loved her character. And it's very exciting for me. So I would love to see more of it. if what I was saying before, now she's good, she's not doing the pub drinking, drinky poo. She might be good like Superman, which I'm also totally cool with,

Starting point is 00:22:03 but I also really like her dark side. No, for sure. Then that's the thing. She was able to be very three-dimensional in this film. Her badass scenes when it came to the action sequences, she was awesome. But then when it came to her like teetering

Starting point is 00:22:16 between, like, going towards that dark side stuff, but then the emotional depth that she brought, that's what really like that I could relate to and resonate with. And I was just really like just so entranced by it, so immersed by her performance. Yeah. That's why I know it was probably weird to see me cry a couple times in a Supergirl film. But no, it's just with stuff I've been going through in the last year, just with my dad.

Starting point is 00:22:43 Like those things really hit me hard. Yeah. So, you know, that's the beauty of art. It's how does it relate to you and how does it, you know, how do you connect with it? And that's how I think the film really resonated with me, at least in those moments. I still think, as I pointed out, the villain was a little weak. But I like the space adventure. I like the teaming up with Ruthie and preserving her innocence.

Starting point is 00:23:04 I thought that was great. I liked the arc that Kara went on Kara, however you pronounce it, you know me, mispronancing names. I thought that was great. Yeah. I really enjoyed the action sequences, most of the music and songs. I had a fun time with this. You know, it's nice going to do a film, I guess, with low expectations. but I'm curious to hear in the comments what you guys thought.

Starting point is 00:23:25 And do you want a Supergirl sequel? Do you want to see her in Manit Tomorrow? Is she in Manit Tomorrow? Let us know. I have not been following that. But any final thoughts? No, I think it's just this movie did a good job of, yes, I do want more of Supergirl. I would love to still see her with the dark side.

Starting point is 00:23:40 It's okay if she becomes more good. Be good. It's the whole thing. Great. But I really like her as a character. And please stay with the practical effects. makeup, all of that practicality that we're seeing within Argo and the set design that gives me life. So I hope we see more of that.
