Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, Reject Nation. I am back here with Paige for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. So excited. Cool. Yeah. Wow. I'm excited. Paige.

Starting point is 00:00:17 What did you think? Well, guys, Gwen Stacy did not get paid by a spider. I was wrong. Yeah. I couldn't have been more wrong. Wow. It's not funny. No.

Starting point is 00:00:35 We have to laugh, though. We have to laugh. Wow. How would you compare it? That was rough, man. Yeah. Okay, it looks like there's no post-credit scene. No, I'm not seeing.

Starting point is 00:00:51 Wait, I guess. Could be. Could be. Could be. I don't know. I don't think so. No. Yeah, she's like alive.

Starting point is 00:00:58 Yeah. All right. Thinking if Electro was still around, he maybe could have pumped her heart back. But I guess her neck still would have been broken. Right? And I think the brain damage was done. That's why that.

Starting point is 00:01:14 Right. Wow. I don't even know, man. That was devastating. Yeah, I guess I just didn't think that she was going to die. Yeah, I didn't either. because I know I like went into this knowing that there was like a third one that was supposed to happen didn't end up happening. I'm not totally sure why it didn't happen.

Starting point is 00:01:39 Yeah. But so I guess I just assumed that like it wasn't going to end with her death. It wasn't going to end with her death. Because like you know with the Toby ones like obviously Uncle Ben that's that's canon. That's like origin story stuff. You know, I just I didn't. I'm not as familiar with Gwen Stacy and her. lore and backstory.

Starting point is 00:02:01 So I guess, I don't know. I just didn't think that I just didn't see that coming. And then that the hand coming out or the web coming out and it looking like a little hand. That was really. Like you think it's going to get to her.

Starting point is 00:02:20 You think that the ground is far enough away. But then they cut to that wide from the side of her and just her like smacking down. And just like and then that thump was just. horrible. I mean, I even still thought she was going to open her eyes.

Starting point is 00:02:38 It really wasn't until I saw the blood from her nose that I was like, oh, I guess it is. I mean, honestly, even the funeral, I guess, because I was still like, no, she's going to open her eyes. And I was speechless at this part because I was sobbing. But the way that they depicted the months and months of his grief and devastation. Yeah, that was. With all those seasons passing. Devastating. It was.

Starting point is 00:03:09 But a beautiful way to do the mark of times too, right? Yeah, that was. And it just, it made me, I know that not a lot of people maybe tune into the Marvel universe for romance, but I will say that the romance, especially, I mean, in the last film as well. Yeah. We, the last film, like their high school selves being so innocent and nervous and nerdy and then it felt like we did see such a progression of their relationship in this film,

Starting point is 00:03:40 of them being much more adult, of them being partners, of them deciding to go to London together. Right. And that scene when she comes out of the cab and he grabs her and he, you know, says, I'm going to go with you like, you are my path,

Starting point is 00:03:54 you are my future. That made me sob. That made me sob so much. And it just, I don't know. I mean, I know that I got a lot of flack on our, Toby McGuire Spider-Man 2 video.

Starting point is 00:04:09 And I'm not saying that Mary Kate in that film is perfect either. But I guess like Mary Jane. I was like Mary Kate and Ashley. Sorry. Mary Jane, I'm sorry. I'm just sobbing. No, it's okay. I'm not saying that Mary Jane is perfect either.

Starting point is 00:04:21 Like, yeah, she's also a cheater. He's also a cheater. They're both cheaters. But I just feel like they're in this film, they are so much easier to root for. Like, I don't get upset with any of them. Yeah. Well, their chemistry is awesome. off the charts.

Starting point is 00:04:38 I mean, there's no denying. And not to say that Kirsten and Toby didn't do a great job. They just, I mean, it is undeniable in these two films for sure. And I think probably because they were dating in real life too. Yeah, probably. So it's hard to, it's hard to top that, you know? Definitely. Definitely.

Starting point is 00:04:59 So much of him just being haunted by her father, too. I liked that. I didn't like it, but I liked it. It made me feel like there was a real perspective of guilt for him too every time he was with her and every time he knew he was kind of putting her in danger. But there was also like she had some really great lines too about I'm going to, I make my own decisions. I'm going to, I am putting myself here because I want to help and I want to be a part of this. and I have the brains for it too.

Starting point is 00:05:33 That's great. We don't see women in those positions all the time in these type of films. So kudos for that, big time. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I know that he's not the favorite Peter. I know for most people it is Toby. It might be my favorite. I think he's my, I think he's my favorite.

Starting point is 00:05:55 We haven't seen any Tom's. We haven't seen any Tom's. So we have to see Tom's still. Yes. But so far. I mean, I, again, like, I appreciate, I like him being a little bit cocky and having some humor written in. Toby had a lot of cockiness written in, but it kind of like. But it, like, it felt like it pushed the needle too far.

Starting point is 00:06:17 It pushed the needle too far over. And he's just not got the same kind of swagger. Yeah. I was going to say charisma, but that's not true because Toby does have charisma also. both have charisma, but swagger, swagger is it, you know? I think that's people's complaint with Andrews is that he's not like, he's too cocky, right? Yeah, or like he's too, like, he doesn't seem like the nerd that like, like, like, he definitely like seems, he's extrovert, or I'm sorry, he's like an outcast, outcast,

Starting point is 00:06:47 but by choice, you know? Yes, for sure. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. Like, Andrews Spider-Man, Andrews Peter did still really like, obviously like, pissed me off a bit in this movie like when he didn't show up to dinner he can't make up his mind he is haunted like there's still it still was showing that humanity of like i don't know what to do like but i guess i guess that i will say it seemed you know what in a way toby staying so far away toby spider man staying so far away from mary jane uh-huh i feel like with andrew garfield's peter parker we

Starting point is 00:07:31 saw what happens if you do give in. Yeah. And Gwen's dead. Right. And so there is an argument to be made by that. Right. And actually, I don't think that, I almost would say that I don't think that there is, there should be an argument over who is better. I like the fact that there are these different versions and they all exist within conversation

Starting point is 00:07:50 of each other, you know? Well, yeah. And as I said last time too, I am starting to appreciate the differences and that like we're making this for a new generation of kids, you know, really. Like, Toby was your generation or Toby was my generation. This is your generation. And maybe my little boy gets a new. Maybe it's Tom for him.

Starting point is 00:08:11 Maybe it's somebody else. Like, I used to kind of be like, why do we keep making these comic book movies, you know? But I mean, that's really beautiful now. I appreciate it. So. Oh, we have a lot of questions. Thanks for teaching me. I wanted to ask you what you thought about.

Starting point is 00:08:28 Electro, but we can do this too. I know. I guess. I liked, I really, I liked Electro. I think, is it Electro? Am I saying you right? Or Electro? Yeah, it is Electro.

Starting point is 00:08:40 I think in Amazing Friends, it's Electra, because it's a girl. It's a girl. Yeah. No, I liked him. I find it interesting that in both of the Amazing Spider-Man's, there seems to always be more than one villain. Yeah. Always be, always in both of them. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:08:56 Not the very first Toby one. It was only gobbie. No, no, no. In Andrew. In Andrew. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's cool. I got to say, I don't know.

Starting point is 00:09:25 Oct. Oct. Oct. Um. still might be my favorite, but Electro definitely, definitely second. I really, I think Jamie Fox did a great job with this character.

Starting point is 00:09:38 I didn't expect to cry during his first battle scene. But I don't know. That was really cool to me. It was very reminiscent, you know, of Sandman and kind of getting to see the side of all of these villains, too. why they were doing the things that they were doing. And it just reminded me a little bit of like how we might look at people who are struggling

Starting point is 00:10:06 with mental health or really just looking to be seen. I mean, this was a guy who was like throwing his own birthday party and thought celebrities were coming, you know? He fantasized an entire relationship with Spider-Man. I mean, he's so sad. Yeah. And I don't know. Just the setting of it being in New York, too.

Starting point is 00:10:26 made me go like, oh, if this were real life, Spider-Man would be talking down unhoused people all the time, making them feel seen, helping them, you know, like that would be the reality, right? If this were how it really was. And I just thought that that was, I don't know, it got me weirdly. It really got me. And yeah, that's it. That's all I have to say about Electro. I also really loved that through line of the little boy.

Starting point is 00:10:57 That was so just special and sweet. And I really loved that. I really loved that. I mean, the Gwen Stacy death was devastating. But I think overall, like, for me at least, the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films live in a bit more of an optimistic version of New York. I mean, it could just be like more modern, more because, like, I relate to it a bit more. but these I definitely see myself being willing to rewatch

Starting point is 00:11:28 versus I wouldn't go reaching for the Toby ones. You're not running back to Toby? Not running. Yeah. Yeah. Well, let's get into some questions because we have a lot from our patrons today. So Jaden Rose states this movie is a mess. They decided to do like four or five different stories in the movie while also setting up

Starting point is 00:11:47 a sinister six movie. I feel like if this movie was just Peter and Gwen working on their relationship problems while Elektra was the villain, the movie would be way better. But they decided to do the Green Goblin while also trying to do stuff with Peter's parents and the movie just becomes way too big

Starting point is 00:11:59 that it becomes just a big pile of nothing. But I am curious if y'all or did y'all like stuff in the movie? I really liked it. I liked it. I liked it. It wasn't too much for me. I don't know.

Starting point is 00:12:13 I don't know. I thought that it was handled very well. And yeah, there were parts of it like when the Green Goblin came back at the end that I forgot he was coming. Yeah, yeah, yeah. almost like made that surprise all the better for me, you know? In my opinion, the last Toby one was a little bit more of a mess.

Starting point is 00:12:29 There were a lot more storylines. Again, for me, there was just a lot more storylines going on. Speak your truth. In that film to me, it felt like, whoa, they were trying to cram a lot in. I didn't feel that way here. But different opinions, I guess. Speak your truth, Paige. Do you want to read the next one?

Starting point is 00:12:49 Sure. Nick at night. Hi, Nick at night. Hi, Paige and Jackie. Glad you've been enjoying Spider-Man movies and hope you venture into some more early 2000 Marvel movies. My question about the unfortunate snap that killed Gwen, the snap is important to the comics and ends the era of heroes always saving the victims.

Starting point is 00:13:10 So I knew what was coming, but could you guys see her dying at the end, or was it just shock? I think we were both in total shock. Yeah, I didn't know. that the snap was something that was important to the comics. And no, that was horrible. Oh, God, now that you say it, I can see it in the comic book writing, though, right?

Starting point is 00:13:28 Yeah, that was, no, that was terrible. I really hated that. I hated it so much. And that was awful, and I couldn't breathe. I don't think I've cried that hard on this channel since E.T. So, thanks. Thank you for that. Spider-Man.

Starting point is 00:13:58 how do you think the Amazing Spider-Man 2 would have felt if the deleted Mary Jane scenes had actually made it into the final cut? Since Shalene Woodley was originally cast in film scenes as MJ, do you think her, I know. Her inclusion would have enriched Peter's story would have taken away from the emotional weight of Peter and Gwen's relationship.

Starting point is 00:14:16 Also, I see your next message for me. This was new information for us. I my mic just went out again you just got to wiggle it there you go also thank you for the next part of your question that's very sweet am I on I get there okay um I had no idea Shane oh my god sorry y'all yeah I'm all tangled now I also had no idea that that makes me want to go and look up the deleted scenes but I know my answer before I even need to watch it, I think it would have taken away from Peter and Gwen's relationship.

Starting point is 00:14:54 I didn't love when in the Toby versions he used Gwen to try to get back at Mary Jane. That made me lose a lot of respect for him. I like it much better when Spider-Man, Peter Parker, is a one-woman man.

Starting point is 00:15:13 I think that it's more sweet. Yeah, I do too. I think it's, if you're always debating what, like, I just love when he really loves her, whether it be Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy, again, I prefer this romance. It did so much more for me.

Starting point is 00:15:29 Yeah, me, agreed. I think at first I was a little like, oh, there's no Mary Jane here, but by this one, by this film, I was like, I didn't need her. Sorry, Shaley. Mary Jane can come later, like when he's, when he is grieved appropriately and done his own

Starting point is 00:15:45 work to sustain himself, you know, without someone on his own. That sentence didn't make any sense. sense. But okay, moving on. All right. Me? Yes.

Starting point is 00:15:59 Maurice Gray, Jr. Hello, Maurice. Do you ladies think this wrapped up Andrew Garfield's run as Spider-Man properly, or do you think he needed a third movie? I personally wanted to see him fight with the Rhino, one of his goofier-looking comic book. They agree with you.

Starting point is 00:16:14 Yes, I agree. I would have been down for a third, for sure. I don't think Rhino needed it. his own movie, but I would have loved to see maybe Vulture just because I think that's a cool winged one. Yeah, that'd be interesting to watch him fight a. I haven't seen him fight.

Starting point is 00:16:31 Right, something that flies. Yeah, but on its own, I guess. Yeah, I definitely would have enjoyed a third, Andrew. Why didn't they do a third? I don't know. Not everybody liked him as much as else. Hold on, wait. I actually, like, I have to find out.

Starting point is 00:16:49 Why? I know a third amazing Spider-Man. Why? Oh, it underperformed financially and critically. Huh. Wow, they just, Sony abandoned the franchise and struck a historic deal with Marvel to reboot the character into the MCU.

Starting point is 00:17:11 Wow. That's interesting. That's fascinating. Oh, and they did have a planned Sinister Six. spin off. Wow. Okay. Wow. That's just, that's really interesting. Oh my God, there's a bizarre plot of the canceled number three, which we'll look up later.

Starting point is 00:17:33 We'll look up off camera. I guess, I mean, now that Gwen's gone, like, I don't know if I could make it through a third movie. Maybe they can bring in Mary Jane for a third. I don't, he's not ready. He's not ready for her. No, actually, you know what? I'm really glad that they didn't have a third one because they would have shoved Mary Jane in there

Starting point is 00:17:54 and he's not ready for that. He needs to learn how to be a spider man by himself. Spider-man. A spider-man by himself. All on his own. Right now he's back to being a spider boy, but he needs to figure out how to be a spider-man. Pierre, the reject, asks,

Starting point is 00:18:15 which score did you prefer between the Amazing Spider-Man one, James Horner or The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Hans Zimmer? Ooh. I liked this one better. I liked this one too. I said throughout the film like, ooh, I'm really liking the music here. Yeah, there were some really good ones for sure.

Starting point is 00:18:30 Yeah. They both felt like they had some good current music though also. Yeah, that's true. All right. Jay Rushton. Jay Rushden. Question, what reject would make a great Spider-Man? It can be female or male there.

Starting point is 00:19:02 He's in our brain as Spider-Man. Yeah. Also because I just, he just, uh, conducted some of the interviews in the panel at this Spider-Man event that I just went to. So maybe that's why I'm associating him. I mean, he is married and I'd be worried that I, I just, I've met his wife. She's really lovely. I just, I want her to be safe.

And then, next, we have some trivia from Malik. Hi, Malik says that whenever the clock stops spinning, it lands on 121.

Starting point is 00:19:55 It's a reference to the issue that to the issue that Gwen Stacy dies from falling off a bridge, the Amazing Spider-Man number 121. The first Spider-Man movie in Toby McGuire's trilogy also pay tribute to the issue by having MJ in that scenario. MJ survives Gwen's comic book fate

Starting point is 00:20:10 because Spider-Man chose to dive after her instead of sending a web out to catch her. Wow. And also, Malik mentions that Shailene Woodley was cast as MJ in film scenes with both of them, but her scenes were cut. Wow. All right.

Starting point is 00:20:25 Sad. Sad. Sad. We do have one final question from Jaden Rhodes. Tell me, Jaden. Jaden says, also, out of the now five Spider-Man movies you have seen, how would y'all rank them?

Starting point is 00:24:38 All right, I'm going to write it down, and I'm going to get back to all of you about it, okay? I'm going to really work on this. Starting point is 00:25:02 When I hold Toby's Peter to a higher standard, it actually is. You're holding Toby's Peter? I have so... Stop. Okay, you go ahead. I'm so sorry. Go ahead. When I hold Toby's human character, Peter.

Starting point is 00:25:29 To a higher. It's actually because there are so many men in my life that I do love and respect. And I just think that... we can do better, you know? Mary Jane, she also needed to do better. They both needed to do better for each other. And I think that's why in the end, Emma and Andrew won out for me

Starting point is 00:25:53 because both Toby and Mary Jane sort of like didn't deserve each other at different points. But anyways, I just wanted him to set a better example for young men. And I think that sometimes it is hard because he is balancing a lot. But I didn't have that issue with Andrews. Peter.

Starting point is 00:26:14 Even though he had more swagger too. See? Because confidence is sexy. It makes you think. It makes you think. And it could just be that they came out in different times. But anyways, that's all I have to say.
