From Sheldon's rigid routines and endlessly quotable one-liners to Leonard and Penny's first interactions, geek culture references, and the chemistry that made the series a worldwide phenomenon, John & Aaron discuss whether The Big Bang Theory's first five episodes still hold up and why the show became one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. Geeks, nerds, and various science experts of the Reject Nation.
It is yet another momentous occasion here in the studio, here in the Igloo.
We, just recently, Aaron and I, finished an Odyssey through one of the most classic and beloved
situation comedies in television history with friends.
It was a joy to behold all ten seasons, some bloops, and a rebut.
reunion special. And now we are moving onward. Time for the big bang theory episodes one through
five today. Time codes in the description box if you want to skip around. Bazinga.
This video is brought to you by Zock Doc. More on them in just a bit. Thank you, Chuck.
That was... Amen to Chuck. The pilot, the big brand hypothesis, the fuzzy boots, corollary,
the luminous fish effect, and the hamburger postulate.
These are fun titling conventions.
Gang!
Gang.
We banged it out.
We banged out the theories.
And we're going to state our findings in just a second.
But before we do that, if you could contribute to our experiment by hitting the like button,
maybe it'll dispense to you a prize, such as, you know, the continued longevity of this channel.
And the, you know, the greater success of these videos leading to thus more Big Bang Theory reactions, you know,
should you have enjoyed this one.
Also, if you want to get the full and complete Big Bang Theory experience, first subscribe and hit the notification bell so you can be notified when the next batch of these episodes comes your way.
But also, also, if you want to watch alongside us, see everything, every moment that doesn't make the highlight real, you can grab your own copy, your own DVD Blu-ray set, your HBO Mac subscription where we're watching it from.
We are watching it from.
You can come on over to patreon.com, sync up with the time code.
Watch with us there like you're just across the couch from.
us or this cluttery table here and it's a good time we got a lot of good people over there fun
community we got some exclusive content as well as anything you see streaming here on the channel
with highlights probably as a watch along that you can sync up with at the patreon it's a good time
you can save yourself a little bit on some teas such as these from re-dejectnation shop.com also another
lovely way to support the channel got a brand new x-men inspired shirt out which uh you know certainly
they wouldn't be wearing because of this show's clear dc shill stuff
status, but, you know, they could.
They could.
If one of them deigned to wear a Marvel-inspired thing.
We also got the Batverse.
So I guess that's very, you know, and the Superman-inspired shirts as well.
So anyway, get yourself some stuff, do a thing.
And just thanks for being here, if you made it to this point in the video.
And, hey, let's get into it.
Let's chitty.
Aaron.
Jonelde.
How are you feeling this show?
Okay, so this show, obviously very successful, very popular.
It spawned.
Hellless spin-off.
now but it is a contentious show people have varying opinions on how it portrays nerds as well as just
life and comedy in general yeah how are you feeling what it's interesting starting a show like
this on the tail end coming off of a show like friends because i feel like with the friends
though they had their their little quirks and personalities i feel like they bounce and personalities i feel like
they bounce off of each other well
and there was still comedy to be had
even in their unlikable moments
and so far I feel like
you know there are definitely laughs to be had
I don't think it's I'm laughing
as frequently as I was with friends
but yeah
I think it's interesting watching a show
like this in 2026
because this started almost 20 years ago
god crazy
and yeah it's just some of the cultural
stuff we've kind of been
dealing with more so of like things like of a manosphere and like in cells and like the
it's called the male loneliness epidemic and all this stuff right dude we got a couple lonely
males in a gaggle of lonely males across the lonely males across the lonely males spectrum on this
show and you know how it's kind of coming across you know some of it's a little weird
what do you mean someone's a little like ooh i don't know about that but what do you mean
I think I am, um, I think, you know, Leonard has his heart in the right place.
Lori McShener, Sheldon has his, his, you know, zingers, a little obnoxious.
I think Howard's also a little obnoxious.
Roger's kind of fun, though he hasn't spoken that much.
I think, uh, Leslie and Penny so far, probably my favorite characters, because I feel like
they bring a sense of grounding to these guys, um, occasional condescending nature.
to over compensate for now maybe the lack of social status or social prowess they may possess within like the larger world so they kind of pride themselves on how much they get within their scientific world.
But yeah, you know, so far, so far it's cool, you know, and I look forward to seeing the development.
Clearly we're starting to see Penny's intrigue with Leonard if he, you know, had his own.
sexual experience and like oh okay he's not all up on me maybe you know I could uh I could see
something with Leonard very curious to see you know how that all plays out but yeah John how are you
feeling on the cusp for these episodes it's the you know okay so here's the thing it's fun I think
any time you get to peer into you're like okay as we've stated like this show has a lot of
opinions surrounding it but it is a huge cultural phenomenon so it's it's always a fun thing to me
It's a fun prospect to be, you know, sort of invited and to see what it's all about, right?
So, so yeah, I'm having fun so far.
There are things about this that are very, you know, of the time.
It's funny.
So far, this feels more of its time 20 years ago than a friend.
Like, there are times, and granted we only just started, and I don't know with this show
if there's any sort of like, oh, you got to get to season two and that's when it really starts
to take off, you know, for people who like a really love this show.
like I don't know what the general consensus is as to when the best moments are.
Maybe we're already there.
Like this was, yeah, I appreciated getting, you know, jumped into the world here.
It's been relatively contained so far most things in the apartment with a couple of things outside, you know, in the restaurant or in, you know, the science lab where was their name Leslie Works or the grocery store on that one.
But yeah, I mean, it's the kind of thing where there's a certain amount of the game is you can tell what the game is.
They don't understand.
I talk to women.
And women are like a whole other creature.
So I understand how this show would invite some commentary discourse about gender back and forthisms.
And, you know, I'm not here to break all that down for you.
There are times where you are like, yeah, these guys are a little exhausting and incorrigible.
But it's within characters.
So I don't entirely begrudge them that.
Like there are times when my brain turns to soup when they're, when, you know,
Sheldon and Leonard are in the staircase and they're both going on like.
this greed like I can sit there and go like man I can admire what these writers are cooking because
it's weird like again this show gets dogged a lot I think for not necessarily being smart comedy
even though it's about smart ostensibly smart people who just lack social skills in various
ways so it's it's interesting like I think there's a two-way street I definitely laughed at
times you know throughout this I'm definitely having like a good natured experience with this
this isn't this isn't hitting yet the way of friends would and I
I can see some of the things that people might not enjoy so much about the show.
But at the same time, like, I also am not, like, I know this show secure as some people's
great ire.
And I don't feel that way.
So, you know, I feel like, yeah, there are things about what we've seen so far that could be
a little more inspired or a little more outside the box for, again, this is like in the
tradition, a format that has been so well trod in, even by 2007 where we're starting out.
But I like the ensemble generally.
You know, I'm not endeared to every character.
Jim Parsons is really fun to watch, though.
Yeah.
Like, I think, you know, obviously he and Johnny Galecki have to click.
I like, like, Sheldon especially can be exhausting from an intellectual standpoint.
I feel like Leonard can be a bit of exhausting from an emotional standpoint.
And again, I don't begrudge them allowing the characters to be that.
I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.
I think the person who captivates me the most is Jim Parsons.
Yeah.
because he just embodies this guy so well, and he stands out in presence.
Like, he is such a singular presence of energy and physicality on screen.
And I actually don't know.
I've seen him in normal, like, hosting or award show scenarios, like, once or twice.
But I don't have a really good frame of reference to, like, what he actually is like.
So I admire the character work.
I love that Lori Metcalf is his mom.
She's a great actress.
So I have wonderful.
Yeah.
And I hope she returns.
I was like, I was surprised to see her.
And I'm like, you are an actor of great caliber for like dramatic work and comedy.
So like, cool.
Great.
Yeah.
And it's fun to look like.
Like I think there's a lot of like, if you are in any way nerdy about anything, there's a certain amount of fun to be had with like the intricate parlance and, you know, the random geek stuff that they're doing.
Whether it's like, oh, who's got the little comic book belt and everyone's like got a DC thing or they're playing Warcraft?
Like, yeah, there's, there's, there's charm.
so far. I'm waiting for this to be like,
oh, this is hilarious. For the lead to hit.
Yeah, I'm still waiting for this thing to turn
into like, I see why this became a show
that went for 12 years. Yeah.
Yeah, I'm like, this is a sitcom and it's doing
its thing and now I'm sort of interested.
I know the ensemble will probably
shift and grow. I think, I think
there are more characters than I,
that I am aware of being a part of the show, then
have been introduced. Yeah. How do you
feel about Howard and Raj?
They're fine. They're fine.
I like, I mean, they've both
me laugh a couple times. I like Raj a little better because he's less creepy. He's a little less
creepy. I mean, like, yeah, there's the whole, again, it's one of those things where it's like, oh, woman,
foreign things. So like he cannot even speak to her, which in some ways can come across, could come
across unsavory, but the way they do that. And I thought that one gag in the hallway where they
cut in, she's talking to him and they cut into his internal monologue. That was fun. And then, yeah, like,
She's like, oh, you're such a good listener.
Like, it's, there's not been a lot of stuff that's, there have been a couple moments,
and I wish I could log them better, that are like, that's an inspired joke.
That was clever.
Like, that moment in the hall isn't the most inspired joke.
Like, it's a thing you've seen, but I thought in the context and with these performers,
it was charming.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
And I mean, you know, the guy who plays, what was his name, Hallowitz,
Howard?
Howard.
You know, he's, he's made me laugh a couple times, too.
He's definitely like the, they've got every type of nerd here.
You know, it's like Johnny Galecki is the, you know, he's super smart and he's just kind of like a bit of a, you know, neurotic, awkward guy.
And then you've got Jim Parsons, you know, who's very much in his own, you know, always on his own track and program, basically.
Yeah, very specific, thinly, neurotic, possibly on the spectrum.
Yeah.
And then Raj, super reserved.
And then Howard, the nerd who fancies himself a stud.
Yes.
You know, so you've got like your, you know, starter pack of nerds.
And, and they all do a good job at it.
But yeah, I'm waiting to fall in love with the ensemble.
And I think Penny, like Haley Cooco, you know, her job here is to like be straight man to them half the time.
And to be the sort of like English please character.
Yeah.
So I'm excited to see and curious to see how they grow her because it's a very like, you know, guy-centric show at the moment.
But I did like that some of the standout characters were.
again, his mom or Leslie.
And I think, you know, Penny, like, I like watching Kaylee Cuoco.
I think she's very, like, charming.
And I'm just excited maybe to see her feel more like a part of the ensemble than just
an object of the ensemble.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, you know, yeah.
Get her own storylines and stuff.
Yeah.
And I mean, you know, it's like, it's super classic territory of like, oh, my God, you know,
Leonard's obsessing over her.
And there was all these sort of, like, weird little cues of, like, is she just rooting for him?
or is there some kind of like thing underneath?
And that plays into this classic trope of like,
ah,
nerd is pining over and might be the right guy for impossibly hot chick,
you know,
so, you know,
I'm excited to see hopefully these characters rise above the, you know,
tropes that,
like,
you know,
they've done a lot of sitcom tropes so far with this nerd skin over it.
Because I'm like,
I don't,
I've heard of the writer before,
but I'm not super familiar with this work in the time of,
recording this maybe we can like
pull some other stuff
Chuck Lori
Chuck Lori
yeah I know the name
but I was like I wanted this to be
I hope this is a show like in
earnest that like you know
celebrates nerd rather than like punching down on nerds
and like doesn't make it
Are you offended as a nerd?
Not necessarily offended but I'm like
I don't I don't want to step in a territory
of like this is this is what's saying
that all nerds are like
well maybe there's just what these specific guys are like
you know and maybe
well it reminds you that everyone's a nerd
about something. It's like they go get the TV from that guy and, you know, he's clearly a fitness nerd.
Yeah. He's so jacked. And then, you know, Kaylee, you know, Penny is a cheesecake nerd. Yes. You know, and a,
and a disorganization nerd. A culinary nerd. A color nerd. Yeah, absolutely. So everyone's a nerd about
something. That's what we're going to learn. You know, mom was a Jesus nerd. Yep. Et cetera. I remember Chuck
Lori getting into a lot of conflicts with Charlie Sheen during. Oh, yes. He was a
and a half man. Oh, he did Mike and Molly. Okay, so it was a, okay, the things kept mentioning
Derma and Greg. I remember that show. Yeah, I mean, I remember it was on 119 episodes of
Darmine and Greg. God, look at that. Vagely remember this. Yeah, I don't know. Any as free-spirited
yoga instructor finds true love and a conservative lawyer and they get married on the first date,
though they are polar opposites, he fulfills her need of stability and she fulfills his need of
optimism. All right, Dharma and Greg. We'll watch that next.
Elfman. Oh, snap. Wow.
She's great. I love her.
Darma and Greg, thank them.
But, uh, yeah, let's see what the patrons have to say, though.
You guys, you guys can guide our convo from here.
We got a few questions to get to.
A thick boy questions, yeah.
All right. Eric 71, 751.
Reject nature for anything like me, you know what it's like when you just struggle to book that doctor's appointment.
I am the worst at that time.
genuinely, booking a doctor stresses me out, calling the hold music, the back and forth,
trying to explain what you need.
I get anticipation, anxiety from just making the call.
And then after going through the whole process, they're like, we got another appointment
and then, you know, six weeks from now.
So historically, my move has just been not to go.
Assume it'll work out for itself, which has done me wonders.
I'm being sarcastic.
It's obviously a terrible, terrible plan.
And that's why this video is sponsored by Zoc Doc.
Zazok doc I've actually used.
They let you search and compare local in-network doctors.
So you're not just blindly guessing or calling around forever.
Their sites have tons of reviews from real patients and detailed doctor profiles.
It's the closest I've come to online dating.
So I could look through my options and choose the one that felt right for me.
And the best part, you can see actual appointment openings.
And click instantly to book a visit.
No phone calls.
No hold music.
No.
let me transfer you.
You just don't want to talk to me.
The exact stuff that makes me avoid booking appointments in the first place.
Gone.
Plus, here's the best part.
ZockDoc.
Doc is free to use.
For you guys, I've been fine for the past couple of years.
I've obviously become a little bit more obsessed about taking care of my health.
And I'll tell you, health matters and taking care of yourself shouldn't be complicated.
So you can find and book the right doctor with Zocdoc.
Head to Zocdoc.com.
Wow, that's a tongue twister.
Head to Zocdoc.com slash rejects to get started and check that.
appointment off your to-do list.
That is Z-O-C-D-O-C dot com slash rejects.
It's actually easier to spell it than it is to say that.
Zocdoc.com, whoa.
Did they realize what they were doing when they said that?
Anyway, they're great.
This is an unaired pilot episode.
I assume you mean there is another, an unaired pilot episode of the Big Bang Theory
where another actress played Penny.
I didn't watch it all,
but it was completely different
to the official first episode.
Interesting.
How do you think this episode
was played out?
That's hard to...
Who's the original penny?
Yeah.
And you can watch some of the OD Pilot or something.
Oh, wow.
Is this the other penny?
No.
2006 unaired pilot
features a dramatically different version of the show
to prompting CBS, rejected it,
and asked the creators to retool the concept.
It lacked Howard and Raj
used She Blinded Me with Science by Thomas Dolby as the theme song.
She blinded me with science and replaced Penny with a greedier character named Katie.
What the heck?
Katie.
Wow, okay.
First pilot of the hit series, scientist Leonard and Sheldon invite a drunk girl, Katie, to stay at the apartment they share.
They have a female friend, Gilda, who's also a scientist.
Fascinating.
This looks like the actual cast.
So, damn, okay.
Let's go.
Iris Blair was Gilda, and Amanda Walsh was Katie.
Oh, and the lady who played Althea was still Althea.
Incidental character still got to shine.
Okay, so this lady was their roomy who's also a science yell.
She's on hacks.
Cool.
Good for, well, she's on an episode of hacks anyway.
Good for her curb comedy.
And Amanda Walsh looks familiar.
He's in Disturbia.
That movie I haven't seen.
It's just Creek.
Dang.
So she was going to be interesting.
Wow.
I mean,
I'd be curious to see what a grittier version of this plays like.
Totally.
Yeah, I mean,
I don't know.
I mean,
this has a very sort of classic sitcom vibe about it.
What the other pilot sounds like is maybe a different tonally.
It's so weird.
The descriptor here was gritty,
which is an odd duck.
Yeah, I think for a sitcom.
Yeah.
So, I don't know.
I mean, yeah,
this is definitely like more.
I could see the studio opting for something that looks like this.
Oh, and I guess Sheldon was more libidinous as this states.
My sexual comments.
Yeah, that's crazy.
Interesting.
I guess, yeah, after test screenings audiences disliked Katie because she was too mean,
but they responded positively to Leonard and Sheldon.
Wow.
Because CBS saw the potential in the two leads.
They made the unusual move to grant the creators a second chance.
to overhaul the show.
Crazy work.
Interesting.
Yeah, I mean, now I'm curious to go watch that.
Yeah, is it just out there on the YouTube's or something?
I guess maybe.
But either way, let us know if it's something worth checking out.
And yeah, yeah, I mean, I would love to note the differences.
I can't really compare it, contrast, obviously.
But, but yeah, I mean, this episode was played out.
It actually makes more sense now.
And I wonder how long they took between the retooled pilot.
and the actual shooting of the rest of the season,
you know, the season order.
Because a lot of times, especially in the older days,
like you would see, the pilot will contain noticeably different,
either production values, maybe some different casting,
you know, slightly.
It's like, you know, the rough sketch of the thing.
So I wonder, because this was already retooled
and, you know, going from one episode to the next,
there was a certain level of consistency.
You know, yeah, I wonder what the gap was there.
Yeah, and just, yeah, how vastly different.
because I think Penny, the character who's in the actual pilot,
or like the, you know, the version that went to go for 12 seasons,
she's, you know, she's very light and, you know,
more of a girl next door type.
And I think that's a fun contrast for our awkward neurotic sort of guy cast ensemble
to play against.
It makes sense to have somebody who's more normal, I guess,
like more in the middle and probably more peppy.
Because, like, if you have a character who's more, you know,
People have been describing the character as mean, so I don't know.
But like an edgier character, I feel like you kind of need the eyeline.
Like, again, I'm rooting for Penny to become more of her own character, but it is nice to have her as an eye line because it does allow you to sometimes be like, yeah, these guys are a little exhausting.
You know, when they really...
The woman who we've seen in the first five episodes definitely brought a different energy and a levity to contrast the guys.
Yeah, for sure.
All right.
Stephanie Horton.
All right.
I think this is a great follow-up series.
to friends for you all to do.
How important is a first kiss just
or just the chemistry
of kissing a partner in general
to you? Is it something that can
be cultivated over time or does
a certain spark need to
be there right away? Do you have
any, an experience where you determine
the future of a partnership
based on the first kiss or
where you gave it a shot
despite the success or failure of that moment?
There's probably
been more, I would say the latter probably.
Like, I think you can recover from an awkward first kiss if everyone's, you know, excited to try that.
So I'm trying to think of a specific situation.
I mean, for me, yeah, I mean, a first kid is like it's always, I don't know, it's a rush of a moment.
It's often lovely.
I don't know.
I feel like, yeah, you can, it's not a huge deal to me, I guess, you know, is everyone's got a different style and approach and whatnot.
And yeah, I mean, there are sometimes, you know, you kiss enough people.
And sometimes you're like, yeah, I don't know.
I'm not.
This is not the technique that's for me.
But I feel like that's something you could communicate about.
And that's something that, like, it's not the only factor involved.
I don't know if I've ever really weighed the potentiality of something on a single kiss moment.
Yeah.
I don't know if I put that much weight into it.
Yeah.
As far as like, oh, my gosh, this is the person I need to see because the kiss was amazing.
And even they reworked past that, you know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's not a death sentence.
I would say or, you know, it's nothing concrete, but yeah, it's, you know, it's never a bad thing to have a good first kiss, but it's not like the end-all deal.
Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, it's like, I can't think of a lot of situations. Every now and again, yeah, you might have a kiss where you're just like, oh, yeah, like I'm not sparked and that's fine. And then you just talk about it or not, you know, and it's, yeah. But it's, uh, it's not ever something. I can't think of a time when it's been like everything else is working, but the kissing is sucks or something like that.
Exactly.
So, yeah.
Usually it's nice and lovely.
But let us know if a first kiss has been a pivotal moment for any of you guys.
Love to hear the variety of experiences.
Yeah, please do.
Care bear, tibbutt is a rare example of a 21st century show with a completely original opening song.
The history of everything was commissioned for tibu-p-tah.
After the show's creators saw Bear Naked Ladies' frontman, Ed Robertson,
performing an impromptu rap about the origins of the universe during a concert.
He does like to rap.
I enjoy the bare naked ladies.
In the age question of streaming or TV openings are often either moody instrumentals or songs taken from an artist's existing catalog.
Do you miss the days of a classic TV theme earworm?
Any favorites?
Yes.
I do miss the days of classic ones of sitcoms and just TV shows in general or this like lyrics.
The spectacular Spider-Man hands down.
The secular Spirman is great.
My favorite one.
Family Matters is another great one.
Full House is another great one.
One-on-one, another fantastic one.
Sure.
I mean, Golden Girls.
Fresh Prince, obviously.
Golden Girls, thank you for being a friend.
Was that for the show?
That was for the show, yeah.
Okay, because, yeah, a lot of ones I can think of them, like, I know that, like, kids in the
hall has a great opening theme, but I think that's just taken from a surf rock album, so I don't
know if that counts.
Your friendly name, your friendly neighbor with Spider-Man has a fun theme.
Yeah, friendly.
like the Spider-Man ones, and you learned that shit?
Do you still know it?
I believe I do.
Here we go.
Here we go.
Here we go again.
Swing through the city so fast.
You can barely notice him.
Walk, Rala.
You know us after that.
Fraley neighborhood is taking care of the habitat.
Erkin, I don't care how you pass a time.
If I can crime, I'm home-up in Gittance.
And now we fly high.
Spidey, Spidey Kids.
Oh, fuck.
I need a refresher.
But I mostly got it.
I mostly got it.
It's been a little over years since we watched it.
I mean, Dexter is a jingle, but iconic.
That's a show where I'm always happy to watch the theme.
It doesn't feel like an episode of Dexter without the theme.
Obviously, friends.
I mean, how I met your mother has the whole like,
but-ba-ba-ba-ba-pa-pa-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-la-da-da-da-da-da, which I also, which I also, which I also, which I also, which I think, that's an R.J.D.2 song or something.
I'm thinking of, like, ones that have lyrics.
Yeah, I know.
That's the thing.
I mean, I love the King of the Hill one, but that's also, I think, just a band song.
Let's see.
Best Original TV opening theme songs.
Fresh Friends, obviously.
Friends, of course.
Obviously.
I haven't seen Sopranos.
I haven't seen Miami Vice.
Miami Vice probably has an iconic one.
Best TV theme songs of all time from the Rolling Stoian home 100 Wanda Vision.
This is going to be way too much.
Somebody save me.
I mean, the Simpsons is iconic, but that doesn't have words.
Oh, Smallville.
Who's that girl?
It's just.
Yeah.
Hey, girl.
What's you doing?
do like
I mean Night Rider
All that
All that
This is all that

Where are you?
You got some work to do now.
All the Buffy one.
That's right.
I'm so, what's this?
We do?
We're coming after you.
Gonna find that mystery.
Dude, the Malcolm in the middle song is pretty iconic.
You're not to find some me now.
You're not the boss of me now.
Oh, pretty superb.
The other classic one.
Okay.
Yeah, sure, sure.
I mean, you know, people love,
Lessons Creek.
Although that's just a normal song.
I prefer the season one piecemaker song
the season two.
Yeah.
I really want to taste it.
That one's like the season one one is like more.
Let's go Drew Carey show.
They're singing about Cleveland Rocks, Cleveland Rocks.
As a person with family in Ohio, that's, you know, that's just iconic.
Also, obviously, Andy Griffith.
Yeah.
I feel like MASH would be iconic.
don't know, MASH as well.
Oh, in living color.
In living color.
All right.
Well, we've reached the end of this part of this Rolling Stone list.
That's enough for now.
Sesame Street.
Oh, no way.
We're going all the way.
The love boat.
I don't know.
Bonanza.
We haven't hit the top 10 yet.
Oh, it's okay.
It's okay.
We're almost there.
Law and order.
I mean, SpongeBob is, yes, you got gems like SpongeBob,
one of the most iconic of all time.
You know, the Sex and the City theme.
Also, the monkeys, people say they monkey around in the theme song.
Really? I've not seen that one.
The X-Files is iconic.
Golden Girls, like you were saying earlier.
Golden Girls, hell's yeah.
Dragnet, just done, dun, dun, done.
Did the Iron Side?
Oh, Twin Peaks, dude, absolutely bangers.
And Andrea Baddle Lamenti.
Yeah, Adam's family.
Adam's family.
We were out of order there, but, you know.
I never saw a Mary Tyler Moore show.
Oh, me too.
I didn't.
Hill Street, do Benny Hill.
you know
Dan Dan
Da-dan-da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-a-na-na-
We're almost there.
Slowly but surely.
Yeah, I mean.
The Simpsons.
It's definitely, I mean, Mission Impossible came from a TV show.
No lyrics on that, but, but yeah.
The Bojack Horseman theme's pretty good.
Game of Thrones.
Too many. Too many cooks!
See?
That's not even a show!
That's a gem.
No, it counts.
It counts.
The Rolling Stone says it counts.
trying the shit out of me.
The Rolling Stone, the Twilight Zone, one of the best of all time, one of the best ever to do it.
Someone had to sneak too many cooks in there.
That's comedy.
Mr. Rogers' neighborhood.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, too.
We love Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
That one.
The Brady Bunch, I mean, that's the Thieves song for the Jefferson.
It's because of the team song doesn't make it not true.
All right.
We name some good ones.
Name us your good ones.
A lot of good classic earwork.
but go listen to the kids in the hall of the song.
It's a good ass one.
All right, the flying Dutchman.
There are some people that view Sheldon's behavior and patterns
is consistent with him being on the autism spectrum.
Chuck Lur and the writers have stated that they did not use it
as a basis for the character when they created it.
In an interview many years later,
Jim Parsons noted that the writer's response,
but added that in his opinion,
Sheldon couldn't display more traits of the spectrum.
as someone who is autistic, I relate to Sheldon a lot and see many of his traits in me,
minus the high IQ, LOL. Now, having watched the first few episodes, I'm curious on your
opinion slash assessment of the character thus far.
I think that's what makes him the most interesting person on screen.
100%.
Like, I think it's tough to do that, and I guess it was on Jim Parsons to choose these things for
the character.
And I think that, especially if people feel seen by that, is a challenge.
tricky line to ride on a show like this where that could easily fall into poor taste due to other
factors but yeah i think it makes the character interesting i think it's an appropriate thing to
include in a conceit such as this and i think it yeah it speaks to the level of his performance
it works with what the writing is doing it's like i could see how and why but i think it yeah just makes
uh sheldon a more interesting endearing character than just like we already have i feel like then
you just have two leonards if you don't if you don't have him exist the way that he does and yeah it just
gives you a different set of tools to work with in a way that is nice and interesting i think creates
you know i think the one of the better functions of a show like this could be to create some
representation obviously again there's a lot of different opinions about the quality and the
carrying of this show and whatnot but um but yeah like the way he plays that character we were
just sitting there and it's just something you sit there and you go look oh i wonder if this is
what they're doing i feel like it may be
kind of for the better that, you know, this was, again, an actor choice and not necessarily
what the writers were concerned about.
Yeah.
Not that I don't want the writers to be concerned about that.
But then again, like, I don't know if I would expect the best nuances to come out of that
in this context.
Yeah.
I think, you know, as someone who is neurodiversion himself and has a number of friends who are
autistic, I could definitely see Sheldon being on that.
spectrum.
Yeah.
I dare I say,
I'm pretty confident that he is.
Yeah.
And you know what?
I feel like his,
his neuroses and his very specific personality makes him the very,
and very engaging person to watch,
especially in juxtaposition with people who are not as,
as Sheldon as Sheldon is.
So, yeah,
I think he's definitely the most captivating character for how weird and funny or
unintentionally funny he is,
or even when he is intentionally funny.
It's, yeah,
it just makes for a great time.
And I mean, I know I've described certain things as exhausting.
I don't mean that in a bad or a mean way.
Like there are times where Sheldon as a character can be like a bit much.
And the dialogue they're giving him is like so again, kind of not ornate, but it's filled with like science terminology and big words and stuff.
And I think it's like it's okay to have that.
Like that's a thing that feels kind of real and a thing that allows you to also have like a sort of underdog.
like, you know, you root for Sheldon and you, he's the character I care the most about off the bat.
You know, because and, you know, not because they've made this like a big sympathy thing or whatever or, or yeah, it's like I think in not acknowledging it, but having him play it this way, it does create the most living element the show has so far.
So, yeah, like, I really like that.
I actually think that's cool.
So, and yeah, like, I love that, you know, you feel, you know, more relatable or you feel like you can relate to this or you feel a little more seen in watching this.
Like, I think that's, you know, net positive.
Yeah.
You know, for a mass, you know, a mass reaching, you know, television sitcom, like, that's actually pretty cool.
And as much as, you know, we're joking about young Sheldons and all that stuff, like, you know, I'm excited.
The thing I'm most excited for is more Sheldon.
So, there you go.
Jay Rushden.
Jay Rushden, which character are you most like in personality and attitude?
Oh, I don't know if I'm like any of them to be.
honest.
Yeah, I don't know if there's a one-to-one here.
I mean...
I think maybe with more time, you can tell,
but I feel like, you know, the guy who is an awkward crush on a girl who is not,
maybe he doesn't know where she stands because he's not the confidence to say something.
Maybe on that level alone, I could, you know, a past Aaron could have, you know, related to
Leonard in that way.
But other than that, I don't really see a self-insert.
just yet.
No, I mean, yeah, you just pluck.
I think the only character I'm not very much like is Howard.
Yeah.
You know, there are parts of, you know, there are shire, more neurotic parts of me that might
match some of the other characters.
There are like always on my own program parts of me that maybe match I'm more of a Sheldon.
You know, I have my own neurodivergencies and particularities.
I mean, there are ways in which I would, you know, relate to Penny, you know.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
I don't know if there's necessarily a one-to-one.
I guess personality, personality and attitude.
That's tough, honestly.
I feel like we got to get to know them a little better because...
I think when Sheldon was describing the thing on the couch
and why that's the perfect position on the couch, I related to that.
Sure.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
There's a reason why this is the spot.
Yeah, I've mapped this out.
I live here.
Like, I, yeah, I've calculated it.
And there's, like, an established, like, instinctual order of things now based on this.
You were disrupting.
And then you, exactly.
You're sitting in my spot and I am bothered.
And I'm like, that's real as fuck.
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
I also want his glowing fish.
Yes.
Please.
I want his glowing fish.
Show me the ways of how to make a glowing fish because I will have them all over my house.
All right, guys.
You got anything else to tell the people about big and banging theories?
No, we big, we banged.
And that's a theory.
And yeah.
That's a theory.
That's a big bang theory.
A, A, A, I feel pretty complete, pretty satisfied.
We are satisfied, gang.
Leave us your thoughts on one of the most successful sitcoms of all time.
Remember, if you want these to continue, we're going to do season one, and we're going to see how it goes.
And if it goes well, then we will continue on.
So, you know, share these and like them and all the good stuff, if that's what you want.
And we will be back with bells on for the next five Eps.
Ding, ling, ling.
Just as in a jiffy.
Science nerds.
We'll see you later.
Deuses.
