Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, fluffy kitties of the reject nation. We have finished the first season of the Big Bang Theory. This was a fun little blog.

Starting point is 00:00:31 It was a little quicker. You know, we typically do five episodes per block because it's a shorter season. But today, we did three, which was, I love it. Is season two going to be longer, I wonder? I probably, because it seems like this show went off pretty well. It doesn't seem like they really hit it off there. I'm not going to look too closely. We got 23 Epps.

Starting point is 00:00:55 So we got a full-ass season to look forward to. We got a full old season to look forward to. Yeah. Yeah, so that wraps this season. But before we get into the fan questions, also before we get into the fan questions, we've got some housekeeping to do. That's right.

Starting point is 00:01:59 The fun train. this has been fun what was your favorite episode of the block Collie, that's just tricky man I mean, it was pretty funny getting, I don't know, it might be the one where Raj gets the meds and he could talk to women for a second.

Starting point is 00:02:23 The sister one? Yeah, I don't know, like, maybe. I don't know, this is, that's just tricky. Let's see, I mean, I kind of like Maybe the birthday party I don't know This was a good trio of episodes

Starting point is 00:02:36 I mean I like Sheldon learning The Mandarin I like the development of Leonard And Penny and the potential around that So in some ways I might say the last It might be the last one I guess for like actual pound for pound story And for investment in the characters

Starting point is 00:02:53 I think the last one is probably the strongest Good good way to end off the season Without it feeling like too much of an earth shaker. But I also loved watching Sheldon kind of learn a birthday. I'm just sad that he didn't actually get the party, but that also makes sense

Starting point is 00:03:11 that, you know, it it's fine because he got to kiss, so it's good. He didn't get the kiss. The ultimate birthday gift. And that episode gave us the most insane Wallowitz moment yet. That makeup was crazy. I was totally

Starting point is 00:03:27 was not expecting them to go that hard. the makeup. The one two punch of the $5 bill joke and then the makeup was a truly, truly insane height of Big Bang Theory, Wallow its momentry. So that was, yeah, and just cool to get,

Starting point is 00:03:47 what is her, what is that actress's name, uh, uh, who plays Missy? I like that I did, it caught me off guard because I was like, oh yeah,

Starting point is 00:03:55 that's right. His mom has the accent to, uh, uh, yeah. And so, Courtney Henngler Hennegler

Starting point is 00:04:03 There you go from Cobra Kai Kai Nice to see her In with the gang I wonder if we'll see her again On the theory On the bang But yeah

Starting point is 00:04:15 Which one was your favorite Oh I think the one that made me laugh The hardest was probably episode 15 With the sister The whole like The buildup to the ending with Raj was very funny Both the cold open that the payoff of him in the background going back for the flyer that was and then having that

Starting point is 00:04:36 go through the whole episode until the very end and he's about to get the date like that was that was actually some some really nice comedy writing yeah i think yeah i think that was a nice game yeah i think this block is kind of what is i don't say it's like it's hard cemented but i feel like I am now endeared to these characters to this premise. And, yeah, I'm excited. Now I'm like, all right, well, we're in now. So I'm ready to watch more Big Bang Theory. And hopefully you guys, you know, continue to watch along so we can get through all 12 seasons.

Starting point is 00:05:11 Right. And all the spinoffs in addition to that. Because I found out, apparently, there's not only Young Sheldon, the spinoff. Okay. But then there's also a spinoff of Young Sheldon from characters that were on that show. What? Yeah. What is that show?

Starting point is 00:05:25 That's like someone and somebody's first wedding or something like that or first marriage. How many Big Bang Theory shows are there? Yes. Okay. So the Big Bang Theory. No, no, no, no, no. Okay.

Starting point is 00:05:39 Any shows in the Big Bang Theory universe. Spinoffs, yeah. How many Big Bang Theory spin-offs? Three. Yeah. Young Sheldon, Jordy and Mandy's first marriage and Stewart fails to save the universe. Yes.

Starting point is 00:05:51 A sequel to Young Sheldon. And then, yeah, a sign of a spin-off. I don't want to read too much about any of these things, but damn. Because that character, yeah, I guess that store, we haven't even met him yet. Yeah, Bangaverse. Yeah, man. Golly, I want to know if he ever figures out with, they get the chicken, you know, if it's real tangerines or not.

Starting point is 00:06:11 Yeah, I hope in season two he gets all the tangerine chicken he could possibly ask for. I like the guest stars they introduced this season, and it's like fun to see James Hong pop up. Like, you've done a couple little things that at least, like, establish serial jokes or serial D-T-T-Jose. tales that you can call back on. Even little things like, like, Sheldon gives a different debunk or like different retort to astrology. But we've heard of retort astrology before.

Starting point is 00:06:36 So they're fun little like, yeah, threads and things. But I liked Courtney Hennegler in this. I liked the lady from preference in this, in that brief moment. You confirm that real quick. I want to make sure I'm not pulling it out my ass. Wow.

Starting point is 00:06:51 Wow. I'm pretty sure. I'm like 95%. Are you saying that every black actress looks like? No. that what you're telling me right now yes i confess no i was like oh wait something in my my memory is pulling this from somewhere and i'm pretty sure she plays his mother was i right what we don't need to do why do we we don't need to log in to view a fresh prince of bel air that's crazy all right

Starting point is 00:07:17 get with the times that's crazy this isn't an i mdb pro situation oh there she is yep there she is right there. Viola Smith. Viola Smith. I knew it. I think we saw on something else recently too. Oh, I mean, I mean, she's in all sorts of stuff. Were she in friends? Did she pop up in friends when I'm watching that? Dude, she must have been.

Starting point is 00:07:38 She was in the aunt bully. She was in the kid. She's in General Hospital. She's directed a project. She was in, okay, the four seasons, General Hospital, shrinking attack of the Killer Tomatoes, organic intelligence. Apparently there's a new Killer Tomatoes movie.

Starting point is 00:07:53 I didn't even know that was a thing. George Clooney's first movie was an attack of the killer tomatoes. Really? Yes, absolutely. Go look that up. That's great. Oh, and Bel Air, she's on the revitalized Bel Air. Let's see, Mafia, the definitive edition video game.

Starting point is 00:08:10 Definitely Young Sheldon. She comes back at Young Sheldon. She played a different character. She played Sheldon. Nurse Robinson. We love to see it. Doctors. She's played a lot of doctors.

Starting point is 00:08:21 The Resident Big Bang Theory. N-C-I-S. I wonder if my pops worked with her. School of Rock, the TV series. Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. An episode of Archer,

Starting point is 00:08:31 Mike and Molly. She's in a lot of TV. She plays two different nurses on two and a half men. Nell, yeah. Killing it and somebody named Karen. Yep. She's just been working,

Starting point is 00:08:42 working, working for a long time now. She's on an episode, House. Night. Nice. Not bad. I tried to say those two things at the same time.

Starting point is 00:08:52 We've got to get to at least 2004 for friends. Yeah, she's on friends. Okay, okay. Let's see, she was in GTA, San Andreas. Hell of yeah. Love that. I mean. I guess she was on.

Starting point is 00:09:03 Yeah, West Wing, Malcolm in the middle. No friends, though? No friends. Hold on. We got to get back to the 90s, though. Maybe X-Files, Young of the Restless. Jason in the Olympians, ER. Dharma and Greg.

Starting point is 00:09:18 Oh, going back with Chuck. Return of the Joker. Nice. Battle of Beyond. and it says Harvesta Superman Animatings. Animated work

Starting point is 00:09:28 This review is just going to be a deep dive In this one side character In an episode of Big Bang Theory Additional voices And Mask of the Fantasim I love to see it

Starting point is 00:09:39 We're well past friends though I could have just done a word search For friends For free But But then we're just Okay those are different friends Actress

Starting point is 00:09:47 Super Friends In the 70s Wow Wow wow wow But yeah, we love to see it. We love to see it. But yeah, I feel like we've kind of talked about our things here. So without where they do, let's get into the questions here.

Starting point is 00:10:03 Let's do it. All right. Let's start off with the first one from Care Bear. The Big Bank Theory is one of the last massively successful three camera sitcoms recorded for a live studio audience. In the tradition of uproarious. Aborius. Aborreous. Aporous vaudevillian theater.

Starting point is 00:10:25 Most shows nowadays and play a single camera mockumentary style, the officer, Abbott Elementary, which is less laugh out loud and more smarky narratives. Question, do you think modern humor still has a place in the classic laugh track comedy, or do current TV viewers dislike hearing the invisible fourth wall audience?

Starting point is 00:10:48 Let's go. This is a good question. I don't know. I mean, I think it's, to me, this is kind of a matter of saturation. It's like, this used to be the standard. This used to be the thing. This used to be a whole genre of TV unto itself, the live three cameras sitcom. And it still is.

Starting point is 00:11:07 And it still is. It's not as popular, but they still exist. Well, yeah. And they're like, I remember, what was it, Netflix not long ago did a sitcom that was, that was, that had a live. studio audience they want to go back to this style i want to say there have been a couple of other shows in recent memory that have gone out of their way to try and revitalize this um but uh yeah it's interesting i think that it's hard i don't know like i miss watching so many of these now i do miss the energy of this because you can just tell the difference it's like one isn't a substitute for

Starting point is 00:11:44 the other the mockumentary style the quirky narratives i like that too um but be that that is by and large what the dominant kind of comedy is, is the sort of office format, breakaway testimonials, hijinks, quirky stuff. I don't know. It would just be nice to have a bit of a more diverse landscape

Starting point is 00:12:03 of approaches to comedy. So yeah, I mean, I would love to hear this, to hear and see this come back. To see the tradition of something, I don't think about it as much watching this as I did with friends. Like,

Starting point is 00:12:15 friends had the quality where it really feels like this is, you can there's a different uh sensation that you would get between the actors and the crowd on a show like friends like in here people started wooing when they kissed and that kind of brought me back to the moment of conversation between the performers and the crowd and the even in again the goal is not to just compare this to friends but you know it's a good example of something because you feel like the writing is alive in the room you feel like the acting is alive in the room. This feels a little bit more like produced and edited and like post produced, but it still has that live camera charm, that live audience charm. And I miss that and I just, yeah,

Starting point is 00:12:59 I wish that it was not just like once in a while somebody makes it a sort of niche curiosity to bring it back. Like I don't think there's something about this that's alive in a way that that kind of is missing now that I think would actually kind of be well suited to the current landscape because of how much AI and how much just again, like, uh, of how much similar streaming stuff gets uploaded every day. Like to have something you got to it's, it's lightning in a bottle.

Starting point is 00:13:31 You got to get the right ensemble. You have to have, you know, writing that's inspired enough for this. Um, but yeah, um, it's, it's an interesting thing. I would love to actually hear some analysis on why this has happened and why we drifted away from it.

Starting point is 00:13:45 But my guess would just be that, this was prevalent for so long and now a different kind of comedy has become so prevalent for at least a while and I wonder if we're on the verge of just a new shift and especially comedy in movies has been hard to come by in a very traditional sense comedy is going through a lot right now I guess I would say yeah for sure I would agree with you in the fact that it's going through a lot of changes and kind of like I was saying earlier sitcoms do still exist but for sure it is not the dominant form of of popular consumption for people looking for their comedy series. Yeah, we have more so gone the way of things like the office or Abbott Elementary or Parks and Recreation. Not to say that that's all of what's out there, but for sure, we've kind of leaned more into, yeah, the even that slash like, think of something for the early 2000s like a Bernie Mac show or a Malcolm in the middle.

Starting point is 00:14:43 and those shows are having revival. So I feel like in order for there to be like, and again, this isn't a catch-all, but for there to be a popular sitcom, it typically have to be associated with something that was nostalgic and that was a sitcom before. And then, you know, they bring it back to revitalize that feeling of,

Starting point is 00:15:05 oh, this is something that is tried and true, you know. But I just don't feel, like that's going to be the dominant form going forward? Who knows? Maybe we'll find some semblance of balance between the three camera version and the single camera thing going on. Are you looking of modern ones? Oh, I guess the spinoff is a traditional sitcom. Okay, that's fun.

Starting point is 00:15:35 Yeah, I mean, there is, okay, so like it's not something that doesn't exist. So that's good. Like it seems like whenever one of these gets, you know, greenlit now, like I've seen it highlighted a couple of times. Also, Disney Channel, so does sitcoms. That's true. That's true. I feel like in some ways the Disney Channel may, you know, you're not really aware of it if you're not plugged into it. But if you are, I have to imagine that they probably make up a lot of the share of live studio audience programming that gets made nowadays.

Starting point is 00:16:07 And my question is how much of that is actually still live studio audience and how much of that is just laugh track? And that's another thing that's like a controversy and a topic of conversation over time. But yeah, and that's something that's fun about watching this is in a time where we do at least feel removed from this style or in a time where at least like the most popular comedic series are not in this style by and large. It is really fun to go from, again, a sort of classic definitive version to that. than the most recent example of, you know, the classic style, but in a form that was at least popular and definitive enough to last and spin off the way this has, you know. So, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know.

Starting point is 00:16:50 I don't think TV viewers dislike hearing the fourth wall audience. I mean, there are tropes of that. They're gimmicks or they're just like well-worn things about it. So I can see why you would get sick of the format or just want more variety. But I love, I've come to very much appreciate through these experiences. having that because it's like yeah you could argue like it's prescribing what your responses are supposed to be but when it feels alive and in the room it's special because then there's like an additional layer on top of the edited thing that you're watching it now you're laughing with

Starting point is 00:17:22 the show yeah and you kind of feel like you're part of the crowd a little bit even though you're not there yeah so yeah i heard heartedly agree with that a malzad just get it in the final episode Leonard finally musters up the courage to ask Penny out. Did you guys ever have similar experiences in the past where it took you a long time to actually confess or ask someone out? Almost certainly. It takes me forever to even be of the mind where I got to go through so many layers of like, am I just like, you know, it's hard. Or actually like them? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:17:58 Well, that and like, would they be reset? It's more of the sort of like, would they be receptive? I need to sort of figure out if they would. I need to sort of like gain some kind of way of supporting the argument that they might be open to this before I pitch it. Yeah. You know, kind of feel off the waters. I don't want to walk in blind, you know, and then wrecking. And I very much sympathized with his struggle because it's that the Schrodinger's cat thing that they both were going through is, yeah.

Starting point is 00:18:30 It's like, you know, oh, is this going to make things weird or mess things up if it doesn't go well? You know. Yeah, I've had been in the Leonard shoes before where I've liked somebody and never said anything and just suffered in silence. And I've had situations where I've waited a long time and confessed and it ended horribly. And, you know, with my partner now, I was like, I'm not doing that again. I'm going to tell them straight up for our first time hanging out. Hey, I like you. And you know what?

Starting point is 00:19:01 Over year in, we're still doing strong. Killing it. Yeah. Good instinct. Good character arc. Yeah, man. Just, you know, before you can develop a fear of rejection with the Pacific person or, you know, build it up in your head, just wouldn't. There's no stakes.

Starting point is 00:19:17 Just ask them out. If they say yes, cool, if they don't, move on before you become too invested in the stakes or the or the trauma or the backlash of what would happen. But that's coming from someone who's currently in a relationship who is solid advice. Yeah. solid advice i appreciate that yeah buddy i feel like i'm better at being asked out than asking people and i feel like that's been most of my experience as well yeah so you know uh but leave us your sage wisdom as to when and how have you ever been a leonard please do j rushin to ask which of these characters is the biggest common book nerd so far uh who that's a hard one because i feel like it's

Starting point is 00:20:01 Sheldon. I mean, he's the one who we've seen the collection of. He seems to have a predict, like, I thought it was just that one shelf, but actually we got a shot wide in his room where I'm like, oh, the whole shelf is boxes of comics. And he's always, yeah, he's always wearing the shirts. You get the boxes. Then again, they all seem to have a flash costume. So they're, oh, some semblance of a comic book nerd. Yeah, yeah. And it's like, you know, we know that, that Raj isn't as much of a comic book nerd because that was specifically not Marvel's Thor. Yes. And you would think that he might and then you know Leonard reached for the literature Lord of the Rings Halloween costume and then Wallowitz I forget what he turned out to be what was his costume again

Starting point is 00:20:42 was it something disturbing probably uh yeah I guess Sheldon would have to be the one I guess I would or Robin Hood yeah and then there was the whole Peter Pan thing that's right yeah um I would say yeah it would probably be Sheldon just verifiably or I think there's a potential for Dark Horse Wallowitz. I could see him being like really in the comics bag, especially like what does his room in his mom's house look like? I think we saw that. Do we see it?

Starting point is 00:21:13 Yeah, because he has like the silker or satin sheets. I feel like. I haven't seen enough of his room to really like examine it like that. Yeah. I think he was wearing a flash belt, this block. And then he has hella DC belts.

Starting point is 00:21:27 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. He's sure worn Batman belt. Superman? I think we've got. gotten at least once or twice. We did see Leonard with some Superman undies. We did.

Starting point is 00:21:36 We did. Unfortunate placement there. I don't know what else you would do, but like the same time, unfortunate. You don't want your dingle just coming right out the front of the Superman, the sign of hope. Right. That's crazy. That's truly wild. Whoever designed that.

Starting point is 00:21:54 You're devious. Because then I just imagine the Superman ripping open his shirt and then the shirt ripping further open and then like a chest burst or scenario except more you know lascivious but then all that also has a laser yeah yeah yeah yeah it's a three-pronged laser I'm going yeah I'm locking in either Sheldon or or surprise Wallowicz I feel like well Leonard reads comics but I feel like I don't know it's got to be one of the two of them I feel like it's one of those questions we're definitely time will tell because we have 11 more seasons given that Everybody watches this and continue to guys.

Starting point is 00:22:33 Yes, I love it. But yes. Keep it alive, folks. Keep it alive. So maybe we'll revisit this in the future. All right, guys. I think this has been a fun blog. Thank you guys for watching all the way through.
