Starting point is 00:01:37 How we banging? Feeling good, banging strong. We're, uh, this is a fun block. This is a great blog, actually. Dude, you said season three is your favorite. Thus far. Yeah, because Sheldon is still himself,
Starting point is 00:01:51 but they found a way to make him more funny than insufferable. Yeah, dude. I feel like they, yeah, really, it's interesting. They're leaning into his more human attributes. which is, I know he's still like the robot man or just, you know, somewhere on the spectrum, but I feel like, hey, like the whole thing with him hating the fighting was very fun. And then him like trying to learn how to drive was very fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Yeah. They're a great duo, man. Like, Sheldon and Penny plots are great. Yeah. Yeah, those are my favorites. The him, them both thinking soft kitty, warm kitty was definitely a highlight. And I'm really enjoying the inclusion of Bernadette now. We've got her.
Starting point is 00:02:29 We've seen her in three episodes thus far. and something about this girl She's like, she's an enigma man Like I can't Fascinating yeah like Do-eyed sort of like I don't know what it's like a whimsical She feels like she's like
Starting point is 00:02:43 On another plane almost Yeah But in a in a way that's not like Airheaded It's like she seems like a I don't know how to describe it She's got a very quirky disposition For sure
Starting point is 00:02:53 Yeah I really enjoy her Her corkiness Her offbeatness But yeah This entire blog was great You know from the Leonard trying to fit it and learn how to hang out with Penny's friends. Valiant effort.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Truly, truly valiant effort. And then the whole guitar argument with them. And I was sad that Leonard won that argument. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because I'm like, why have we got to go and do that? Like, I understand you being self-conscious about it or being like, oh, I don't know. Like, I understand your anxiety, but the way we handled this whole situation could have been much better. We only have 22 minutes.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Let's talk about this. Come on. Yeah, we only have 22 minutes, so we don't really get to fully unpack that whole thing. But I felt like Penny was touching on part of his issue. Like, you're afraid. I thought he was going to leave her, but she's in true. He didn't trust her. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Yeah, I like that in those situations, like even if they are doing something like, oh, you know, this is a sitcom situation. Like, she cut to the chase with that in a way that was like pretty solid. I was like, I didn't expect them to reach. for you. Yeah. And they're like, ah, I'm like, you keep being condescending the entire time. I was like, come on, dog. What are you, what are you doing? You know, you take a page out of Shelton's book here, just because you're a little insecure and afraid. So I wish we would have, you know, actually had time to address that. But, you know, we move on as you do in a sitcom. And then we had the
Starting point is 00:04:19 episode with Kripki being a little goon. We don't know. We had the tripping episode next where oh, yeah. Yeah, she, Penny dislocated her shoulder. And then we were, took some, some funny funny cookies in the desert and had the munchies and that was a fun little episode in the time capsule that really could have been placed most anywhere in the series after Sheldon being sick and Penny taking care of him. I feel like that could have even been the next episode theoretically. But, you know, I feel like now that we have seemingly Bernadette as like a part of this show, that's the scenes if we've picked up and on.
Starting point is 00:04:57 She's had, you know, Chinese food with them in the part. Exactly. So I feel like that's how we know that you're not just, well, did. And she's engaging, yeah. Because like when, who was dating Sarah? When Leonard was dating Sarah Rue, we didn't see them like all together in the apartment. No, she felt like a few of them, like him and Sheldon and her in the apartment. Whereas here it's like, yeah, oh my God, why my, Bernadette has been with everyone in the apartment eating Chinese.
Starting point is 00:05:23 So she's part the ensemble. And I think that it's so far, you know, obviously we're going to watch more of the show, but the inclusion of Bernadette. keeps Howard off the list, keeps him out of jail, but it also creates an interesting challenger, potential arc for him with now having somebody to hold his feet to the fire, hold him accountable, to then challenge his behaviors and insecurities
Starting point is 00:05:47 where he has to actually address them. So I like that. We're presenting a gateway for him to then grow as a character. So I'm like, okay, I see it. I dig it. And yeah, let's do more of that. There is an interesting like a like balance that happens with this like watching the experience of watching this so far has been interesting because this is happening slightly before in cult.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Like we've always had political correctness. But this is before like the current age of that. So like it's interesting to watch characters like Howard who are very much incorrigible. And then characters more like Leonard who are like have some of the more casual common things that you probably should learn your way past as a as a young man. But like, it's interesting to watch the show go from like a place of shamelessness with some of those things to a place of like, there are times now where I'm like, oh, they're clearly letting Howard or, or in this case, Leonard, be kind of a heel and be kind of in the wrong. Like, there are times when they put the sort of resolve of it on Penny's patience. And we've seen this before. And I'm like, we don't have to do that.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Like, you know, again, it's like the bespoke nature of any character. Like, it's her choice to do it. and they've chosen to do that, so fine. But, like, generally speaking, I, like, yeah, she's, she's got the point there. If you really want to get down to brass tags. It's like, Leonard's not behaving flatteringly. But then I, in this, like, from this vantage point, I'm like, but I could give them the benefit of the doubt for that being something that's like, oh, this is something the character might learn and grow past. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Versus before just being like, ah, you know, this is a trope and we're doing the trope. but like maybe we could leave this trope in the past. Yeah. Yeah. And I also thought it was an interesting thing that now we have Stewart still in the show, but this is the first time we've seen Stewart and Penny Interact. So now he has like the, I love you. He's got the gunther.
Starting point is 00:07:44 He's got the gunther. Yeah. He's the Gunther. Oh, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But so yeah, I think it's, you know, it was a fun little cheeky thing that they did there. So I'm curious to see if that's going to continue on over the course of the show, if he's going to let that go yeah i i liked it's funny because like the the penny half of that
Starting point is 00:08:03 episode obviously like we've we've talked about i really liked the sheldon half like where everyone's fighting around him and he's just can't take it and like yeah that whole just motif of the episode was lovely i thought that was like i felt for him and in a way where the show's not going out of its way to like overwhelm you it is like convincingly sort of like we've all had that day where it's like oh my god everyone's just charged up and I need space from people and like every you know and and granted we don't all have like his exact backstory but I thought the way they brought that in really lovely penny like placating him they get you the robot and the comic book like it's very very charming very sweet and like to the to that
Starting point is 00:08:43 point too it's like the plot line where penny falls in the shower is like a little bit like okay we're gonna get Kaylee quoco like in a towel for this episode like it's it strikes me a little lurid out the gate but the thing is you have it's a penny and Sheldon so like It turns out like as innocuously as possible almost. Minus the whole like hero always peaks. He sees her butt tattoo. But even that is like less icky than it could be. I just ordered another batch of Huell ready to drink for the office because every time I stock the fridge, somehow they disappear.
Starting point is 00:09:17 So apparently I run a YouTube channel and a Huell distribution center. And that's kind of the point. I've been drinking Huell weekly for almost two years now before my 2025 cut. They're out the entire eight-month cut, and I still use it now. Sponsored or not, I use them. I hear Hewled ads on plenty of other podcasts, but I don't know how many of those people are buying it for their coworkers when the cameras are off. This guy does.
Starting point is 00:09:39 So what separates Hewle for me from a lot of other drinks or powders is that I'm not treating it like something I have to add on to a meal. Like Black Edition is the meal. It has 40 grams of protein mixes with water or milk in about 30 seconds, and it's a complete meal you have instead of food, not a shake. of food with 27 essential vitamins and minerals and no artificial sweeteners colors or flavors. But a lot of the time, the servings are two scoops. So sometimes I'll mix one scoop banana flavor, my favorite, with a high protein yogurt. Delicious.
Starting point is 00:10:10 And the RTD, the ready to drink is the grab and go version. 35 grams of protein, seven grams of fiber under five bucks a meal. No prep. It just grab it and go. Strawberry banana is the Mrs. his favorite chocolate peanut butter is the star at the office and they have a new flavor here mixed berry new customers get 15% off online with code rejects at huel dot com slash rejects new customers only thank you huel for partnering supporting our show and for supporting my lifestyle for sure out of any of the
Starting point is 00:10:42 characters yeah this was like the least icky character that could have been in that scenario with her other than leonard of course yeah it's an interesting encapsulation of aspects of the show It's like these two episodes are, yeah, kind of have an interesting thing because it's like the Sheldon, everyone's fighting is like a surprisingly touching little nuanced thing. And then something like Penny falls in the shower is like,
Starting point is 00:11:07 this is an old school sitcom like, well, let's get the hot girl in a, in a silly physical situation, but it's like a little bit flirty. But even though it's like, you know, a bit rotin doesn't necessarily hold up to the scrutiny of the now, in this, like I feel like that plot line would have been more uncomfortable and cringe in the first season versus the third is what I'm trying to get at you know so it's interesting to see the evolution through some stuff like this and and I mean you know it's still so bringing laughs even when you know a trope or a situation is less you know in fitting with the time and place of now yeah you know but yeah them all strung out on magic cookies was fun that was very fun also it was a fun little side story because I was with episode nine because
Starting point is 00:11:53 Because the main story was, you know, the Howard Bernadette, Howard making a decision if he's actually going to go for Bernadette or not. And the side story with Sheldon and Kripke. And I was like, you would expect some kind of consequences for that if the president's there. And then makes the whole video incriminating them. I wonder if they'll ever call back to that. Yeah, yeah, same. Because that was, yeah, that seemed like a real, again, that's right at the sitcom crossroads where you're like, this is so outlandish. you have to acknowledge it or this is so outlandish you can never acknowledge this you just have to reset the status quo
Starting point is 00:12:28 and then you move on and then you start to think like well maybe this happens a lot maybe at this school is not the first time but but him having the whole video the whole like i've got you and thanks to raj and then leonard for their support very fun uh i've heard a lot of episodes of science friday on npr so shouts out to ire flato nice to hear the voice on TV but as was just a voice and the helium thing felt natural I wonder how they did that it really felt
Starting point is 00:12:59 like they pumped it into the room and his voice just started to get higher yeah I wonder the science behind that like would that theoretically work because I only ever seen it like you puffed it you puffed through the balloon and then that's what happens yeah also is that much helium in a room like dangerous to
Starting point is 00:13:15 you know what's the ratio intake yeah because I don't know that was a weird moment of movie men And again, I know that they can digitally do that, but there are just aspects of it that didn't sound at least hastily digitally done anyway. Right. But yeah, I love seeing Howard. That was actually him playing the piano and singing the song. Dude, some four tops in there. Like, okay, Howard, I see you. I like that. That was fun. That was true. Yeah. And him chasing down Bernadette has been a very fun kind of expansion to his character. I'm excited to see wife guy Wallowitz. You know, and see what that becomes. Yeah, it's interesting.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I think this episode block could have been rearranged because it felt odd to me that we had the date with Bernadette. And then like an episode, I think in one of the first episodes we watched this was him chasing down the girls and leaving Roz. Yeah. We went back to Bernadette. I was sitting there during that episode where so like, have we just dropped this now? Oh, no, she's back. Okay. And I like, I get it.
Starting point is 00:14:16 People can, you know, in the early dating phase, especially a guy like Howard would have his eyes. wide open for any possibility. But I do like that they at least made that a storyline, you know, like the, you're holding out for some kind of impossible fantasy when you have something amazing right in front of you and, you know, Katie Sackoff cameo, very fun, very fun that she was a sport about that. Yeah, it was very cool. And we got another cameo, didn't we? Somebody?
Starting point is 00:14:44 I can't remember. I don't think so. I mean, I'm an NPR person. There we go. That's my guy right there. And I thought the whole like I mean, you know, her showing interest in Leonard's experiment,
Starting point is 00:14:58 you know how that's going to go. But I did like the whole Penny and Sheldon like tutorial physics thing. Yeah. Fun. And then of course, you know, Sheldon would just tell her a monologue to repeat about how Leonard's work
Starting point is 00:15:12 is not legitimate. Yeah. People have shit on his work constantly. I want to see him in his element. For why, guys. But yeah, this was a fun one. The guitarist amplification has its own Wikipedia entry for some reason. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:15:27 And I can't exactly tell why. But let's see what the people, what our research assistants over the Reject Nation have to say. The Big Bang Theory, appreciate you chiming in. Carebear. Carebar. Let's do a little zoom. Hi, John and Aaron. Hi, hi yourself.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Simon Helberg got to showcase his real-life keyboard skills during Howard's serenade. to Bernadette, classically trained in piano since childhood. Elberg later started as Merrill Streep's accompanist in Florence Foster Jenkins. I remember that movie playing live each take rather than Streep using backing tracks. Okay, big respect. Cool, Simon Helberg. Love to see it. Question, like Bernadette, are you swayed by Howard's piano love ballad or like Penny?
Starting point is 00:16:14 Do you find musical apologies? Cringeworthy. Oh, I'm 100% Bernardette. Let's get it. Yeah, I like the Bernadette, I like the song to Bernadette. Because, yeah, who doesn't love someone professing their heart and their feelings and doing it in a creative manner? Yeah. Like, yeah, I'm an artist, of course.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I want somebody to profess their love for me in a way that they actually use their brain and then incorporated instruments and created that to, you know, because it takes effort and it takes time to do something like that, even though it seems like Howard kind of did it on the spot there. but you know the effort is no less appreciated. Hey man, you saw I was delighted when that, I was like, oh, they're going to like to have him do it at all, but also the fact that Simon Helberg actually plays, uh, it just made me, like that gives a love the little bit when they pull in some real life,
Starting point is 00:17:05 you know, and use it for the character, love that, uh, but also it gives him some dimension. Yeah. You know, I was like in that moment,
Starting point is 00:17:12 I was like, okay, he's putting himself out there. He's taking a swing for someone he cares about. He's, yeah, calling up some of his other talents online. Let's get some character growth on this man. Beating the allegations this week for the most part. So we love to see it.
Starting point is 00:17:32 Jay rushed in to ask what rejects would most likely eat magic cookies. I feel like the question would be more which rejects would turn them down. Yeah. I was literally thinking the same thing. Which chicks would turn down magic cookies. I was like, if we're not that we're all. all like, you know, wasteoid miscreans. I'm like, if we're not specifying.
Starting point is 00:17:52 We're not all degenerates, but. Exactly. I was like, who would turn it down? Although, I don't think, well, it, okay, I guess the real hair splitting would come in, like, what kind of magic? Yeah. It's like, I know Koi's magic cookie would probably be different from some of our other magic cookies. I was thinking the exact same thing.
Starting point is 00:18:08 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what I was like, if we're not specifying. He would have the magicist cookie. He really would. Corey would have the most special cookie of all of us, for sure. Yeah, 100%. I would say the most people likely not to eat the cookie
Starting point is 00:18:20 I feel like that's the better question I don't think Tara would eat the cookie I don't think Andrew would eat the cookie I don't think LJ would eat the cookie and Yeah Jackie may might eat the cookie I think Jackie would eat the cookie
Starting point is 00:18:35 I don't know if Paige would eat the cookie Maybe Paige would eat the cookie I would say page would eat the cookie What am I talking about? Page would eat the cookie for sure Michael Michael would eat the cookie Michael would eat the cookie ask All right so so Tara
Starting point is 00:18:47 and John and who were he who was our calling Andrew Andrew wouldn't eat the cookie Andrew would not eat the cookie really no okay I feel like Andrew I feel like Andrew's cookie days are behind him okay he's a honest man he's an honest man he's a straight laced making a living he's out here punching the clock working in the minds watching Jiu-Zitzu Kisen exactly and the words of cookie I mean the words of cookie the words of the cookie I feel like the the cookie might give him a mind of virus so I don't think he would do it. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Well, would you let Andrew sleep on your couch? Of course. Any day. Guitar player came into town. Would you let him sleep on the couch? As long as he's not in my spot, he can sleep anywhere he wants. Dude, I'm sad they didn't do that. I'm sad they didn't give us a whole five episodes of just that guy.
Starting point is 00:19:36 I wish he was there, dude. We just don't acknowledge him. He's just in the scene. If I had a sitcom, I would, one thing I would do is I would do very, goofy serial elements even if the format of the show is like quite episodic so it's just like
Starting point is 00:19:55 you know instead of having like a guest star four or five episodes yeah we'd have like oh that we established like a few episodes ago that this guy's in town sleeping on the couch and so there's just a guy sleeping on the couch in the background for five for a handful of episodes just because just because it was established at some point
Starting point is 00:20:11 and then we let it go yeah my head canon is that because the scene right before that Penny said that Oh, he's a musician. He can sleep in his own vomit if he has to. So then my head canon is like he's not sleeping on the couch because people are over. He's sleeping behind the couch.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's just on the floor behind the couch. And then just people keep tripping over him or something like that. You know, just like give it a silly weird game of the scene. Yes. But, dude, the, let's see. We have, okay, so none of these episodes according to IMDB were the top rate episode. Nor.
Starting point is 00:20:43 No, no, no, one of the one. The adhesive duck deficiency. was a fun one dude episode eight is top rated for the season do you agree with i mdb yeah that was great that was wonderful damn doggy oh there's another one oh there's another top rate okay so we got a good one at the second to last yes uh yeah man this was a good bunch this was a fun batch guys leave us your thoughts what are your favorite moments what joke made you laugh the most we got a freaking soft kitty warm kitty like looping uh uh you know circular song moment When she said doing it around, I was like, what? Because I thought she wanted him to, like, do the second part of the verse, but then they, like, did it overlay it.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's one of those that's designed for that. So, yeah, you can just get people endlessly. And then it kind of starts to collide a scope as like a coral thingy. Right, a cacophony of lyrics and music. You can do it with just two people. But, yeah, when you have, like, an army of singers at your disposal, it can be quite something. Anyway, what?
Starting point is 00:21:43 Are you going to say something? I was going to say, you show you guys should all go out there and get. get your hello kitty cat hello kitty kite hello kitty kite soft kitty warm yeah fly a kite we got to go do a reject kite day comment below uh what the best kite is i had some kites as a kid i don't know if i still have the kite anymore or or duck my kite who is kitamus prime i think i only maybe had one anyway leave us your thoughts uh what song are you singing at the cheesecake factory and uh yeah we'll catch you next time much love be safe people Science. Live long and do a science.
Starting point is 00:22:16 With flung and fly kites. Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life? You know the same way you can skip an ad? I get it. I'm Siaiaia and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned. And today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Apparently, that's how I roll. So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride. Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem.
