Starting point is 00:01:05 We've been watching the Annabelle parts of it. We've been watching the Nunn parts of it. We've been watching the conjuring parts of it. Now we're already watching the La Yerona parts of it. Thank you so much for taking Spanish class for all the elementary schools. So I know that double L makes a ya instead of a law. So you guys don't make fun of me. Here we go with Gursa La Yerona.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Okay. Okay. We just did. Curse of La Eurona. You guys are listening to us on Apple or Spotify. Don't forget, five stars. Let us know what you guys think. If you loved my shirt this whole time,
Starting point is 00:01:40 we've been seeing our Christmas sweater or our horror sweater or our classic reject sweater, reject nation shop.com. All right, my girl. Let's chat. What do you think? Compared to now all the offshoots of the converse, compared to Annabelle, the Nun, and now Laurona,
Starting point is 00:01:58 is this i still love annabel i think i i think the most i mean this one was was it was good and i really do love linda like i love her as an actress so i was really glad that she was in this and i thought everyone in it would did really well but um you don't think there's a post credit scene do you um we can i'll look it up to make sure okay uh you talk and i'll look it up because i can't do both at the same time. You want to just play through the credits, babe? Just put them on mute. No?
Starting point is 00:02:32 I'll put them. I'll put it on mute so we're not distracted. We had a reach ad that popped up, babies. I thought that that movie was, I think that right now I'm the most into the Annabelle. I'm the most into the Conjuring movies than the Annabelle movies, then these,
Starting point is 00:02:52 then the Nunn movies. I'm not as into the Nunn movies as I was then. I think that this is really interesting premise, especially I love, you know how, what's it called, Brothers Grim, like the fantasies that we have heard, the tales that we've heard, and we've made them all happy endings, but they're actually really not happy endings. Yeah. I like when we go to real tales that are told and make movies and things about these real horror stories that we hear. Totally. have real lore so it's cool that um like i don't know if all mexican children grew up hearing this that they kind of mentioned in this that they did my friend has said that but again obviously i don't
Starting point is 00:03:36 know because i didn't grow up in mexico or hearing the story i think it's pretty cool that we hear this story of that they say that they tell kids to keep them in line and then they really go in depth and explore what that could look like if there really was a curse of La Yerona and if they did come to take your kids. So I like the premise a lot. I also really like Linda, despite it taking me fucking 20 minutes
Starting point is 00:04:00 to figure out her name. You got it, though. I did, and I was so proud of myself. You got it. But yeah, these are for me. I thought that this was really interesting. Yeah, I feel like to start out the movie,
Starting point is 00:04:13 I really like the opening was like quite a shocker and I was like, oh, that's what this is about, wild. And I like that we're still following along with the lore of like, you know, fire, holy water, get your crosses. But we learn new stuff in this movie, like with the arbor trees and, like, the seeds and stuff. I like how much lore we pick up in regards to what can help us stop the demons. Yeah, me too, the fire trees and the seeds were new as opposed to the holy water and stuff. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Like the fire, holy water, we already knew. But I thought that it's kind of funny how the social workers came and they were worried about her. We never saw them again. They didn't pay out, which was weird because they are her coworkers. Right. I thought that maybe you were right about they were probably going to come check back in. And find them in the closet.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Exactly. that may be like a whole like thing of like oh my god what's going on here in a big huge mess that didn't really play out i'm that the which is fine um and her husband being deceased um connecting her there i thought there was going to be more of a storyline about that necklace that he left her totally about the saint the same why wasn't that and then the kid playing the cop game i thought maybe that might come into play where he maybe remembers something that right his dad and that helps them somehow defeat this Lawyerona. They set up so many of those things.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Showed us that. Very purposely. And it felt like those were all going to kind of come to fruition. So like I said about liking this premise, I think that the premise was slightly better than the execution possibly because of so many like setups and that weren't landing. Yeah. But if there's a second one of these, maybe that's.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Maybe it does. I mean, they did. pay off like when we saw the i for kubriano whatever they called the guy we did team staging outside of the church so um they they did set that up you know in the end movie but there is some stuff in here that i was like why didn't we see that totally play out i don't know why um but i did still think that there was plenty of jump scares in this it was it was scary for sure and i never really knew um i think i couldn't tell when it was actually going to happen like are the kids going to die? Is she going to be
Starting point is 00:06:46 inside of the mom? And then once we figured it out, I was like, okay, this is a ghost that were. Yeah, you and I both thought that we just didn't know. They kept us kind of on our toes with that. And then finally, once we figured it out, you know, that there was sort of a deafening silence that they would play with, along
Starting point is 00:07:03 with the music when we're waiting, especially when a girl goes out to get her doll. I just thought that was so, that was the one thing that I thought was really weird. It kept very, very, very unlikely it kept me very much on my toes though because we're like oh my god she's going to knock the line away um but i also thought girl are you really going to calmly walk to the door and go outside and
Starting point is 00:07:26 look for your doll when you hear your parents and everybody back there going grab a wooden nails like she's coming i thought that was such that's an odd move to me whether it's in a script or if anybody's on set i'd go this is weird how do we change it um i don't know uh it could have happened after they already wooded it up and then she's stressing out she's like where's my doll and then she frantically looks and oh god that would make sense to me don't know why that was that's okay i still had fun in this movie i love um the the actors i thought that was great and the guy wasn't breaking bad he's too co salamanca that's exactly there we go i was like i think that that's who that is yeah and he's been in a million other things i want to see what the little girl is also in um
Starting point is 00:08:13 Her name was Sam. She is now older. What was she in that I recognize her from? Or was she not? Girl with a gun. I didn't see that. Enchanted Christmas. No, I guess I didn't.
Starting point is 00:08:26 She just looked familiar. She was really good, a really good little actress. They give her a lot to do too. Yeah. And I thought that was pretty impressive. Tony Amandola as the father, who we talked about last time. You want some trivia on this one? Yeah, let's do it.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Let's see what I can find for us. Um, okay, Tony Amadola, who portrays Father Perez and Annabelle reprises the role in this film. Yeah. We know. Um, as a promotional stunt, a theater in Montreal, Quebec. I was supposed to play Pokemon detective Pikachu, played this film instead, causing the children in the audience to run out crying. Why would they do that? Oh, they accidentally did it.
Starting point is 00:09:06 No, as a promotional stunt. Oh my God. I don't, that's not good. This is me. I'd be so not happy. That is like, that's, no, that's, that's not nice. I don't know about that. Samantha is watching a classic Scooby-Doo
Starting point is 00:09:20 Where Are You Cartoon, Linna Cardalini, who plays her mom, Anna, played Velma and Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo, too. That's funny. Oh. I didn't think about that. Raymond Cruz's first top-billed role in a film after consistently playing minor roles in television and film. Cool. The title of the film roughly translate to the curse of the weeping woman.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Okay. Yeah. Despite being largely and widely accepted by the public as a spin-off character or chapter from the Conjuringverse, the information was later confirmed to be false by director Michael Chavez, who stated that the film was never meant to be included in the shared universe and that it couldn't be fully embraced because it was made without one of the main producers from The Conjuring. But it wasn't James Wan, but I guess it wasn't Peter Saffron, so maybe that's what he's referring to. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:09 That's kind of weird. the daughter it's also where they're like it can't possibly be and I'm like then why would you cast the guy who's in Annabelle and talk about Annabelle do you know what I'm saying yeah I do like that's a very clear the daughter in the movie is named Samantha Linda Cardalini plays a nurse nicknamed Samantha Targut nicknamed Sam nicknamed Sam in TV show ER oh yeah obviously a lot of Sam's that's my name in so many scripts Sam I could see that for you This film makes several references to the conjuring films One example is a scene where brothers Carlos and Tomas Are hunted by La Eurona One of the brothers looks to the corner of the room near the doorway
Starting point is 00:10:52 Similar to when Christine sees Bethesba in her bedroom In The Conjuring Older brother then sleepwalks Conjuring we watched so long ago Yeah Older brother then sleepwalks after being influenced by La Eurona Bethesba had a similar effect on the children in the conjure Finally, Anna's daughter, Sam carries a doll with her throughout the film.
Starting point is 00:11:11 While it's not Raggedy Ann doll, it looks very similar to the iconic toy. The Annabelle doll was a Raggedy Ann doll in real life. Father Perez, who helps guide Anna in the film, also appeared in the first standalone Annabelle film. Right. Yeah, we knew that. Okay. Got it. And those are the pieces of trivia on this one.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Okay. So let's see, what are the other curse? There's also the, I'm curious, what? There's the curse of La Yerona. Are there more La Yerona movies? I mean, I'm looking right here. It says the legend of La Yerona. And then it says a Shudder original La Yerona.
Starting point is 00:11:49 I don't know if those are in the same world or not. Does seem like the legend of La Yerona. Is the next one. Yeah. Okay. I think so. It's hard to tell. Let's see if the producers are.
Starting point is 00:12:02 I mean, they definitely left us on a sort of a, when, when Linda looks in that puddle. It's not produced by James Juan, so I don't know. Oh, interesting. Well, we'll just wait and see what Greg tells us to watch. Yeah. We'll be watching that. We follow our team leader.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Yeah, dog. Overall, not one bad movie in the converse so far. No, jump scare. Jump scare city. They do a good job of that of making you scared. Obviously, when I bring out like, or if we talk about plot points that I'm like, oh, they could have done that better. It's like, this is a horror movie.
Starting point is 00:12:35 It's made here for Susqueville. They definitely delivered on that. What I didn't really want to see was an hour and a half movie about this woman drowning her children. Yeah. Like, I was thinking that might be what the movie was. Yeah. Because I, so I didn't tell you what the legend was because I thought maybe the end reveal
Starting point is 00:12:52 was going to be that she was going to be that. But I didn't want to see, like, her realizing about her, the affair and then, like, tricking these kids. I was really not wanting to watch that. So this was much better than what I thought we were getting ourselves into. Yeah. It's weird because I've. And there's plenty of not just Lawyerona, but this has actually happened in real life where I know there's a few cases. I don't know the names, but I know it's real life. She found out of about an affair with her husband. Some of them just get really messed up. I remember she drowned her two kids in the lake back behind her house. I think she also killed herself after that. But there's like wild. This is like real. Like this stuff actually happens, which is wild to me.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I will say one more thing. I did play in like a TV show that's on like AMC. I don't remember the name of it. Look on my own TV, whatever. I played a lady who I killed my husband and my two kids so that I could be with my new husband and I buried them in the backyard or something. Like I played that woman.
Starting point is 00:14:02 I think that's a right story. I just think that even though this is the, curse of La Yerona, this stuff happens in real life. Like, as she was saying before, that we like when it's like a curse or this is based on true events, like they say, in Annabelle and stuff like that. Was it called Psycho Storm Chaser? No, no, no. Oh, oh, no, it's, um, it was a while ago.
Starting point is 00:14:29 It has to be, no, down. Suspense? No. It's not that one. is it on here um it's on like it's like a lifetime channel thing maybe it will be on here let me see i'll look for two more seconds and then i'll say let's just for those you guys i don't even oh i think it's called murder book i think that's what it was murder book is what i believe i was i was in and that is where that i think i play and i bury whatever you don't
Starting point is 00:15:03 see me bury him but a crazy-ass story anyway i'm just like saying this stuff happens in real life and I find that wild that's insane to me I hope if you're a mom out there and you're going crazy you know ask for some help I kind of want to say the exact opposite stuff is terror for a second I think moms get accused of a lot and it's so rare that a mother is the one who did something like this it's so so so so so so rare so let's yeah that's true the crazy woman trope tends to drive me insane oh yeah I like can't stand it or it's like a scorn woman because It does, it does, it has happened before. For sure, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:39 We see it all the time. We see scorn men, too. You know, they, they F up too. Like this, snap and kill their kids. I don't think I've ever seen. Yeah, I thought that's the one guy he drove the car into the lake and killed him, because he freaked. I don't know what you're talking about in a movie. No, I think it was real life.
Starting point is 00:15:59 That's what I'm saying. In movies, we are constantly doing scorned women, scorned women. I got you. And it tends to not be my favorite genre. I'm not saying that there's never. been a scorn man thing that's not what I was trying to say oh I see what you're saying all I'm saying is typically when we see movies where it's like this woman he cheated so she murdered them and it's like yeah those tend to drive me insane whether they're true or not it's just like can't relate and
Starting point is 00:16:22 I think perpetrates a bad perception and then people overhyped like this happens all the time and it's like that's really not what women do all the time but but I do hear you that it has happened so it does make it even freakyer and I like that this is like a legend and lore to keep kids in line like if you do this she'll come and they're like ah you know like the boogeyman or whatever right um which is cool did you hear aaron come in the room and just start talking to us yeah I don't know what he was saying because I was talking to you guys you're literally in he just started speaking clearly on camera I have no idea he just came in and started talking to it I was like he was like oh see stuff for you guys up any final thoughts on curse of law you were on a bit no it's a good time
Starting point is 00:17:11 i agree with what she was saying i think most of the time most women uh get cheated on they're like cool i'm going to move on this is going to suck for a while but i'll get over it and not but we don't but we don't make stories about that because it's not as interesting so yeah it's fun it's fun all right another good one good job contover's and we'll see you next time for whatever comes next in this franchise later rejects Oh!
