What a wild. What a wild ride. I don't know how you guys thought that we would get through this and not almost have heart attacks. Are you insane?
Starting point is 00:02:00 I felt like I was going to die. That was... That my heart was going too fat. Like... All right, we got to talk about it. I can't even. Go away. First of all, even then, the first thing we see is written and directed by Sam Ramey,
Starting point is 00:02:14 which is like, from this to eventually Spider-Man, like, what, how, who, what in the hell? How who, what, why when? We're going to go three deep, a big deep breath in. And now through your mouth. We're going to turn the air back on because I'm sweating. Yep. And then we're going to talk about it. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:02:41 That movie was so scary, Tara. Yeah, that deep breath helped me. That was really scary. That was the scariest by far, right? Duh. That, like, shook me to my core. That I've ever watched. They were, like, when people were like, what's the scariest movie you ever watched?
Starting point is 00:02:58 I kind of, I'm like, well, scary movies, they don't, like, scare, scare me. That was like, that's what I've kept saying to people. As though I know, because, I mean, I haven't watched them any, but it felt like I was watching the core, the Friday of 13th, the nightmare announced me, the Chucky. I'm like, no, they're good. They're just like, they're fun. And now I'm like, I thought I was going to die. It was so, it was very intense. All right, a few things for you guys to do.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Number one, if you're new to the Shejects, oh, yes. Rejectionation Shop.com. this is our amazing merch right now but we also by the time you're watching this probably have a few other things
Starting point is 00:03:34 Tara and I because we have become the horror horse the scream queens the shejacks Greg has teamed up with us for a merch line and this has like
Starting point is 00:03:43 been one of the top sellers ever selling like hot cakes so we have way more things coming that you can see but everybody who's taken bought one of these has sent us a picture and said it is the most comfortable
Starting point is 00:03:55 they're wearing all the time all the picture All the pictures we're getting is amazing. Yeah, we just got one today. And I couldn't share it yet, but she's getting a tattoo, not of the she-jacks, but she's wearing the sweater. Because she's like, it'll give me the good vibes to get this tattoo. I loved it. Yeah, obsessed.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Yeah. Okay. So that's number one. Number two, if you're on Apple or Spotify, five stars and wherever else, don't forget to like, comment. Don't forget to subscribe. We can see all that good, good juice. So if you do those things, then we, then Tara and I get all the flexibility in the world. Plus, we just love being with you guys and we want to see the love back.
Starting point is 00:04:32 I legitimately feel exhausted from that. I feel like my heart was racing the entire time. I felt like he was going to die. I felt like I was going to die. I felt so freaked out. I can't believe that. We got to look at the budget on that because, like, how were they able to do that? Bruce Campbell, no wonder his career, like, absolutely took off after this.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Right. Great job. Great, great acting. great special effects, and they all obviously did their own stunts. Anytime you can see when Scott falls off the couch, that's him. When Linda gets dragged down the stairs, that's definitely her. Did you like this movie? I did.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Yeah, me too. I really, I loved it. I mean, and the stop motion, I loved watching that. That was great. You don't get to see that a lot in movies, and especially we're kind of duped on seeing practical nowadays, and this was obviously all practical. I'm very curious how to the branches around. the legs
Starting point is 00:05:25 which looked awesome. I want you to guess the if you want to. The cost of the movie, or I can just tell you. Okay. I'm thinking I'm thinking they probably went low.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I'm going to go with $65,000. Oh. I'm probably underballing. I was going to go $100. You're underballing way so much. Yeah. $375,000. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Because there's special effects. They need that money. Yeah. So let's see. With enough money to produce the film, Ramey and Campbell set out to make what was then titled Book of the Dead, a name inspired by Ramey's interest in the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:10 So let me tell you all about this movie. We knew nothing about this franchise. I still don't know a ton about this. I don't even know whether we would consider those zombies or what they are. So let's see what the internet has to say. At the end of principal shooting in Tennessee, the crew put together a little time capsule package and buried it inside the fireplace of the cabin as a memento of the production to whomever found it. The cabin has since been destroyed and only the fireplace is still intact.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Whoa. That's a cool trivia. The cabin used as the film set was also lodging for the 13 crew members. I would have hated that. Oh, my God. I would have said absolutely not put me in town. Several people sleeping in the same room. Living conditions were terrible, and the crew frequently argued the cabin didn't have plumbing,
Starting point is 00:06:57 so the actors went days without showering and felt ill frequently in the freezing weather. By the end of production, they were burning furniture to stay warm. Was that his plan? And also, you had 375. Was that the plan? Bruce Campbell put up his family's property in Northern Michigan, his collateral, so that Sam Ramey could not only could finish the film, but also blow it up to 35 millimeter film,
Starting point is 00:07:28 which was required for theatrical release. Ramey was so grateful for Campbell's financial contribution that he credited him as a co-producer. Wow. He put his family's home up. As collateral. Yeah, wild. The original script called for the characters
Starting point is 00:07:45 to be smoking marijuana when they were first listening to the tape. The actors decided to try is for real, and the entire scene had to be later reshot due to their uncontrollable behavior. Oh, God. Wait, behind the scenes of this is even greater than the movie.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Andy Granger, a friend of Bruce Campbell and Sam Ramey, gave the advice, fellas, no matter what you do, keep the blood running down the screen. They included the scene in the finished film where the blood runs down the projector screen as a tribute to him.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Oh, love that. The end of the normal day of shooting, a normal day of shooting, Bruce Campbell would return home in the back of a pickup truck because he was covered in fake blood head to toe. The blood is combination of caro syrup, non-dairy creamer,
Starting point is 00:08:37 lots of red food coloring, and one drop of blue food coloring to darken it. At one point, Bruce Campbell's shirt that he wears in the film was so saturated with the fake blood that after drying it by the fire, the shirt became solidified and broke when he tried to put it on.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Oh, that's a good story. I love that. Reject Nation. I never really consider myself a sports guy. I know so many people who are in this sports. So many people who watch this channel are into sports. My wife, into sports. Sometimes it feels emasculating while she yells at the TV and I don't know what's going on.

Oh my God, all of this. Sam Ramee and Star Bruce Campbell were friends from high school. Oh, really? where they made many Super 8 films together.
Starting point is 00:12:49 They would often collaborate with Sam's brother, Ted Ramey. Campbell became the actor of the group as he was the one that girls wanted to look at. Campbell has played brief parts and cameos in most of Ramey's movies ever since. I love that so much and makes way more sense that Campbell would put up his family's home as collateral because he's like, I believe in my homeboy and I love that. filmed in a real i can't get enough of this stuff filmed in a real life abandoned cabin the property's owner granted the production crew to lease the cabin under the condition that any modifications made for filming were to be undone the crew kept their promise and the only thing that remained in the cabin was the fireplace that was specifically built for the film oh okay cool in his autobiography bruce campbell described the film's production as a comedy of errors and twelve weeks of mirthless exercise in agony, although he admitted that he also managed to have fun while on set. God, 12 weeks.
Starting point is 00:13:54 When there wasn't any filming, Bruce Campbell would actually help out with the crew and prepping shots and props around the set. Sam Ramey originally wanted to film the title of the film to be Book of the Dead, which I mentioned to you. But the producer, Irvin Shapiro, changed it to the evil dead for fear that kids would be turned off seeing a movie with a literary reference. Oh, okay. The temperatures were so cold at times during shooting that the camera and other wiring froze.
Starting point is 00:14:25 They then had to be thawed by the fireplace inside the cabin. Oh, my God. The film was shown to Stephen King, and it was his glowing endorsement, which was later used on the film's ads and posters of the film, which really sold it to the public. The film was bought by New Line Cinema soon after. That's amazing. Wow. This is all crazy.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I mean, there's so, so many more. This seems like one of those movies where the movie is great and the behind the scenes would be equally as great. Even as good. I cannot believe that they shot 12 weeks and they're all in the same cabin. They're sharing rooms. Of course, you're going to be fighting and freezing. That's just wackadoo wild to me. You would think that that would be the case if this was like a 50,000.
Starting point is 00:15:11 thousand dollar budget that's why i yeah i'm in the 80s for almost 400k you would think but it didn't look so good i'm curious about the the focus stuff still though like yeah and it it wasn't like this was shot in two weeks what did they what did they just 12 weeks 12 weeks so it's like you had a lot of time to do research i would think but yeah but i guess probably because it's on film yes yeah yeah it's so expensive yeah it did look unbelievable though this movie made me tired Me too. It was drained, but it was excellent. It made me really excited for the future of the franchise.
Starting point is 00:15:47 I hear from Greg that the second one is even like more iconic than the first. Really? Wow. I mean, I already think this is very iconic. Yeah, that was crazy. That was scary as fuck. I'm sweating. I turned the AC back on.
Starting point is 00:16:01 What happened? I'll take a guess. There's three in them maybe. It should be more. I wonder if this just goes for like 12. I got to see if Asher versus Evil Dead is. something related to this i've heard people talk about that but i don't know what it is ash versus evil dead um it's three seasons oh it's a tv show oh it's a tv show with bruce campbell oh for this
Starting point is 00:16:24 oh that's why oh cool okay maybe we should start the first season i know right oh man all the real ones get it okay so any other thoughts bib i love this movie great job special effects i'm with you I'm with that the money obviously went to probably a lot of the blood, guts and gore, the special effects, the spewing of the white, all of the oatmeal, the, the knives going through the ankle. I mean, that's, that's where their money went and I am in love with them for that. The knife through the ankle, bro. The knife through the ankle. That was torture. I mean, a lot of it. The scratching.
Starting point is 00:17:04 I love the girlfriend. I wish she would come back. She was so talented when she was, when she turned. She was freaky clown. She was, I mean, yeah. And I mean, I agree with that. I just, I don't, I'm not going to get over this movie for a minute. This was great.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I'm obviously glad you guys recommended it. But my heart, I know. Wow. Like, just so you know, that movie is terrifying. And you are a monster if you don't at least warn a little bit of your friends. Like, we're going to go see Evil Dead. Like, and they're on our. train like they're watching Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street and Chucky,
Starting point is 00:17:44 you better warn them like, it's a different vibe over here. This is a last carrier. All right. Well, I'm going to go sweat off camera. So thank you guys so much for being here. And we look forward to riding this roller coaster with you wherever it takes us. Indeed. Later, she, Jax.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Bye. Landon Miller. London. Whoa. Wow. Landon. why did you read from the book of the dead? Great.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Now you're having people come back from the dead that you didn't want to come back from the debt. John named four people. Gary Busey's stuff. Yeah. He's back from the dead. Lori Petty's back from the dead. Damn, Lori Petty.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Lori Petty. The actress who played Take Girl and she's in point break. Wow. That's crazy. He also brought Patrick Swayze back from the deck. because now we're getting real about it, and people would be happy if Patrick Swayze got brought back. If you could use some roadhouse Patrick Swayze in a cabin, Landon Miller made the right call there. Yeah, also bringing back the ginger dead man to life.
Starting point is 00:18:51 The ginger dead man. Yeah. Classic Gary Busey franchise that has been killed. No, did not. So back from the dead. Not forget that one. Never forget. I remember that one.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And then back from the dead is also Jake Busey. the son of Gary Busey. His career has probably been dead for a minute. It's been dead for a while. And I like how he's used the Book of the Dead to resurrect franchises and celebrities' careers instead of actual dead people, saluting one. And it's pretty cool that that's where, because it feeds off of Landon Miller's truest the truest desires.
Starting point is 00:19:29 And that's really sweet of you how you think of like people in media. And I also feel like if you cut off your hand, and you replaced it with a chainsaw that you actually look pretty hot. You look pretty attractive. John, name four chainsaws, Kerry Busey style. Hey, craftsman must make a chainsaw. Hey, a chainsaw made out of a meatballs sub. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:19:54 A chainsaw held by my son, Jake Busy. Jake Bucy's chainsaws. A chainsaw by Black and Decker. Great, that's a good bad. I'd probably go with the meatball sub one. Yeah, it's the best one to go with. Landon Miller, we are shouting you out, and we did it. We did.
Starting point is 00:20:14 This is accomplished. What are you won?
