Tara Erickson and Aaron Alexander dive into the high-octane world of The Fast & Furious 8 in their latest reaction video. This 2017 installment, directed by F. Gary Gray, continues the saga of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel, Fast & Furious 7, Guardians of the Galaxy) as he faces unforeseen challenges that test his loyalty and redefine family bonds. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam, Jumanji) as Luke Hobbs, Jason Statham (The Transporter, Hobbs & Shaw) as Deckard Shaw, Michelle Rodriguez (Resident Evil, Widows) as Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson (Transformers, Baby Boy) as Roman Pearce, Ludacris (Crash, No Strings Attached) as Tej Parker, Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde) as the enigmatic Cipher, and Kurt Russell (The Thing, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) as Mr. Nobody. In this reaction, Tara and Aaron explore some of the film's most adrenaline-pumping scenes, such as the thrilling "Cuban Mile" race, the chaotic "Wrecking Ball Chase," and the intense "Prison Break" sequence, all of which have become iconic moments in the franchise. The Fast & Furious franchise includes The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, Hobbs & Shaw, The Fate of the Furious, F9: The Fast Saga, and Fast X. Yes.
Well, let's do this.
That's right.
We are ready.
Rev up your cars,
ladies and gentlemen.
We're getting ready to get fast.
Oh, that was fun.
That was a good time.
It was a good one.
It was a good one.
It was a fun one.
A lot of action,
a lot of twists,
a lot of turns,
a lot of humor.
a lot of locations, a lot of cars.
Yep.
A lot of racing, a lot of destruction.
Beautiful.
Good stuff.
Great stuff.
Tara, how are you feeling?
How are you feeling after getting furious?
Yeah, I feel great.
Also, if you're listening to us on Apple for Spotify, give us a five-star rating.
But I, I mean, I feel good.
I like this movie.
This movie is a lot of fun.
I mean, all of the Fast and Furious movies are like a blast,
but this one specifically, I mean, I love that Charlize is in this.
She's such a good, like villain-esque.
I mean, she's always been a great actor.
But like, I think this movie got me, I think, just really excited.
The choreography from start to finish, like when Hobbs and Shar and the
prison together and they're just arguing but then when they break out are you kidding me that is like
wild like we just it's peddled to the metal throughout most of this film which i love so it for me
it put me it put me in a good mood because that gave me a lot of excitement yeah what about you
it was exciting it was exciting i i had a lot of fun with it i had a lot of fun with it it wasn't my
favorite of them yeah but I did have a lot of fun with it it's an interesting movie to examine
knowing the effects of the outside world yeah had on it because this is the very first one
the volume all the way yeah just so I can hear you thank you this is the first one where um one
the first one without Paul Walker and two this is the very first one where the rock and
Vin Diesel don't have any scenes together right at all uh which I thought was interesting because
like their relationship in the previous three movies or more specifically within five and six
were very prominent and you know that that was the tether point for the rock being part of this
franchise um so watching it knowing these things i don't i don't think ever fully left my brain
but that being said under the circumstances in which they were forced to kind of be under they
were still able to make a very fun and compelling experience uh under those parameters
And I just honestly was really impressed with F. Gary Gray's direction in this movie, the way he was able to capture action and up the ante of what we've seen from the last X amount of movies, seven movies that's far.
And finding new ways to keep this franchise entertaining, even if some of the things on the riding side kind of don't allow it to flow as evenly as previous movies.
like i felt like i missed that whole beginning sort of thing that we have within the past three of
reintroducing the family where they were with this in their states of life before going back into
the journey we literally just like jump cut into them all in the middle of a mission already i'm like
oh i miss that that thing of seeing like where were we now in between each movie or at the
beginning of each movie so i would have liked some of that a little bit more it definitely felt
like, I don't know, the, the, they were able to construct a plot where both Vin Diesel and
the Rock were prominent in the movie without having to interact and it didn't feel jarring
because their experiences were so separate, but it was allowing those actors to be prominent
within this film while giving them both a lot to do. I'll also, I will say, and maybe I missed
it, maybe you caught it. They, they, for so much camaraderie as Jason Statham and the Rock
had in the beginning. I don't think they had like a reunion
scene in this movie. Like when they're all
at the barbecue together, I don't think they
talked. Did they?
Um, because he
talked to Dom giving me, giving him his kid
back. That's right. But then and talks to
Mr. Nobody about like, I think I'm going to good.
I'm good. Yeah, you're right. We didn't see
a pickup of that. But he was mad because he
punched, he punched the metal that he died
because it was his best friend. Right.
You know, X amount of
time of arguing. So I thought that was a little
interesting. Granted, we know that there's going to be a spin off
with the two of them hopefully you know we get to watch that but yeah i thought that was a little
interesting because they kind of set that up in this movie that they've come to come to an
understanding point between the two of them yeah i will say the charlie's theron was great i thought
she's a fantastic villain i like the way that they're able to tie that her whole thing is that
she was like the bigger bad because each movie it seems like to keep upping the ante because when letty
died you find out that oh no luke shaw was behind it and then like in this one you're
like oh no he was the one behind her right exactly it keeps going up yeah and now it's like
who's charliece's boss exactly you know we're up in the ante every time which you know i'm here for it
i'm here with the the strange and and maybe a little convoluted kind of writing of it i'm like you know
it's part of the fun you know we're fast baby we're furious we've left the realm of reality in
that's in this franchise and I'm not mad at it I'm along for the ride you know I get pulled out
for a second not like totally pulled out we're like this is this is bullshit I can't believe this
happening but like this some some of the stuff is just like wow I can't believe we're we're
going here right on this level so yeah I still remain to be impressed also I will say and then
I'll give it back to you Tara that I think this out of all of the movies might be my favorite
performance from Vendizel I think he did a really great job dramatically you know he's able to
the tears and bring the anger within this film and stoicism and like the subtle moments of him
feeling betrayed or like wanting to hold back. I felt all of that in his performance in this
movie. And yeah, I thought he was great. Yeah, I would agree with you on that. There was a lot more
depth to his character and that probably has a lot to do with the direction and getting him to that
state because we haven't really seen Vin Diesel in that state before of being like overly emotional
in any of the films. But I think what this film,
what this whole franchise does in regards to the writing,
they're self-aware of how ridiculous they have to go.
Totally.
And when you're self-aware,
you can push the threshold as far as you want,
which is why I think when they have Tyrese saying comedy,
even at the end, when they're about to die,
they've written him that way.
And throughout all of the stunts and everything being outrageous
and they're going to die and how do they not die?
And it's like, no, he's still making jokes.
They'll always make it out of there.
And, like, Dom will always, like, have his girl.
And his girl will always come through to where he can say, that's my girl.
Right?
It's like, it's very self-aware of, like, where we will end up.
But in the midst of it, they know that they can really push the threshold on, like,
what's believable and what's not.
And that we will just roll with it.
I think the most unbelievable thing, although it's like it's really hard to get mad at this movie because they know what they're doing.
And I like that they put Tyrese's character in it.
When he is on the door, he holds up the door and he hits the snowmobile guy with the door.
But there's like six other of them shooting on him.
He does not get shot once.
I would have liked to see him get shot once and then still take him down just to add to the believability.
but that was the that was really like the one of the biggest ones where I was like come on how do you not get shot also raining cars was amazing wow how cool was that when they just start hacking into the cars or driving all around I thought it was great stunts overall I know that there's a lot of CG in here but not in like a ridiculous way where you're like oh my god that looks like a video game you have to really like be watching I think they they they
do a good job of pacing out where the CG comes and goes rather quickly.
Thank God.
It's a fast and furious movie.
And then the close-ups, I mean, it was all of the stunts in regards to the cars and the people,
especially fight choreography, was done really well.
So I think that I really like that.
I mean, they've always done a good job of that, I think, in all the films.
Which was the number one where they pull the bank safe down the street?
Was that three?
when was that that was five that's one of my favorite ones yeah five is still the best one
five is still the best and you know i i love that one and it it brings it back because what
what you were saying is what five did is did touch base with all the characters right and then
we get into the action this one was sort of like let's just get into it which i just go yeah okay
that's fine because i guess at this point we kind of have to assume that
Everybody is thinking, we know where these characters have been.
And unless we open up on a funeral about Brian, where are we going to?
Yeah, they didn't tell Brian in the last one.
Yeah.
You know, so we're thinking, well, we got a touch base with that.
Otherwise, if we're checking in with them, it might be weird if we don't mention it, right?
So maybe.
Yeah.
I was, I don't continue with your thought.
Well, I was just going to say.
So maybe not having.
that was the better option. Maybe.
Reject Nation, it's a new year and we want to start strong, right?
And for me, that means finding simple ways to stay on track, especially when it comes
to eating well. And that's why I've been loving. This is my own order, not one sent to
me, H-U-E-L, that's on screen, right? I trust them a lot. A few months ago before partnering with
them, I actually asked them to send me a few bottles. That way I could make sure I like it before
I talk about it. And yeah, I ended up loving it. And now I am a regular customer. I think I've
spent more than they've paid me. Right now I'm down to my last bottle because coigandro, you keep
stealing my bottles. Anyway, here's why Huell's Black Edition ready to drink works for me. It's a
complete meal in a bottle packed with over 30 grams of protein and 27 essential vitamins and
minerals. So you're not just filling up. You're fueling up. Perfect for busy mornings or when I don't
feel like cooking or if I'm in a rush, which is my life, just grab it, drink it, and you're good to go.
And the taste, this is so important.
Unlike a lot of other shakes, I know you've tried some.
Huell actually tastes great.
And my favorite, it's personally the chocolate.
Coy, I can't believe you took my last one.
The chocolate, it's smooth, rich.
And low in sugar.
I'm really particular about that, too.
So if you've been looking for a way to make eating healthier yet easier this year,
Hewle it is.
It's Huell.
It's horrible, too, less than five bucks a bottle.
Here's what you can do.
You can go to Huel.com and use code rejects for 15% off your first order,
plus a free gift.
That's Huel.com code rejects.
Supporting them, does support the channel,
also supports your sexy bod.
So starts your off strong with Hewell, it's quick, it's nutritious, and it actually tastes great.
You'll want it in your routine.
John Dro.
Friends, you ever finish a workout?
Feel amazing for a bit and suddenly hit that wall?
Or maybe you're just dragging throughout the day, no matter how much water you drink.
That's where today's sponsor comes in, a sponsor whose product I buy on the reg, and that is Liquid IV.
I'm always excited to partner up with the brand whose product I already used.
What's great about Liquid Ivy is that their stuff isn't just about
hydration it's about feeling better all around physically it helps replenish
electrolytes faster than water alone so that way you recover quicker that's very
important even if you exercise just a few times a week mentally it helps you stay
sharp and focused instead of sluggish and emotionally feeling good starts with taking
care of yourself your temple whatever you want to call this machinery that we use every day
and staying hydrated is a simple way to do that as i used to try the the gallon of water a day thing
And sometimes you just can't hit that whole gallon and then film with a big blow to belly.
Anyway, here's why it works.
One stick in 16 ounces of water hydrates better than water alone.
Thanks to their LIV hydroscience formula, it's got three times the electrolytes of sports drinks.
Packed with essential vitamins like B12, vitamin C, so it's not just hydration.
It's energy and recovery in one and the flavors, especially their sugar-free raspberry lemonade.
It's refreshing zero sugar and feels like a treat.
Whenever I take Liquid IV after a workout, I feel like it has made a big difference, especially during busy days.
So if you want to feel better and hydrate smarter, healthcare, go to Liquidiv.com and use CodeRejects to get 20% off your first order.
Once again, that's Liquidiv.com. Use code rejects to get 20% off your first order.
Go everybody to support the channel is go check them out.
But more importantly, it's supporting your health.
Give it a try. I feel a difference, and I hope you will too.
It's weird to me because, you know, this whole franchise is about family.
And the reason Dom does what he does makes his decision is because of family.
Right.
Newly discovered family.
Exactly.
And the two things I brought up earlier that caused the point of contentioner may cause a little weirdness in this movie is one, we obviously don't have Paul Walker anymore.
And two, we don't have Vin Diesel and the Rock and their dynamic.
But both of those characters would have been perfect oppositions to Dom and the story because it's Dom kind of going rogue, betraying his family, the kind of Harcun's.
back to Dom's cat and mouse thing with the rock in the first one, or in five.
But also, because Dom and Brian are best friends and he got out of the game because he's
a father, then him having to come back in to stop his best friend who also discovered
that he's a father, that would have caused like the pinnacle of like all this relationship
that these best friends now have to go head to head.
But obviously we can't do that.
We obviously can't do the rock now taking a step back seemingly at the beginning of this movie
because he has his own daughter he wants to invest in.
We can't do either of those relationship kind of parallels
because of the circumstances we've found ourselves in
during the make of this movie.
Yeah, I agree.
And I mean, who knows, they could have had the intention of, you know,
with this franchise that they have it already mapped out
and maybe the blueprint was there to,
it would make the most sense for it to be Brian to save his kid, right?
But then, you know, the way they reworked it.
And I like that they had to bring in Jason Stath and Helen Mirren
and it's his mom.
That was fun.
And I love the line where he just goes,
I can't believe you called my mom or whatever.
And they did, because we were like, wait,
how, how, why did he trust that Statham's character's going to do that?
But they, they were self-aware in the writing where Statham goes,
how do you know I would, how do you know you could trust me?
And I like that.
Like, I appreciate that in a film and they're very aware of like,
just let us, let the audience know, like, we're aware of like, what the,
and then they can they can answer our questions that way yeah they can answer your question I thought
it was a little I liked seeing Luke Evans and Jason Stacey together even though the strangest
quickest cameo of the villain from number six and then they just don't say what happens to him
all right are he's here and now he's gone I know I know right that was a little that was a little
odd when I was like oh that was that was quick he must have just been on set for 20 minutes
I was going to say, did he have any lines?
I don't remember he had lines.
No, like literally not at all.
Like Jason's Aetham goes like, all right, come on Scarface.
Let's go.
And then he does some stuff and then that's it.
Yeah.
They don't even say where he went.
Right.
And I mean, they use this picture, but whatever.
Maybe they were like, here's a really good day rate and he only had to work 20 minutes.
Good for him.
Yeah, right?
Like, I'd do it to.
Pop in, pop out kind of a thing.
But I agree with you.
It was a little weird that we saw him just for like such a short moment.
but this felt like the fate of the furious in bringing like that fate together they they brought back everyone
they brought back the guys that meant me like what where they happen to the guys then they're the
drivers they had some lines but especially bringing back elena you know his kind of girlfriend that he
had when um they were in rio de genera or whatever wherever he was and then we find out you know
he has a kid with her i mean they're bringing everyone back and it's sad that like
she had to she had to die because remember she was working with hobbs wasn't she she was yeah she was working with hobbs in um number seven and number five exactly so but i do think that that was great writing as i said if you're going to have someone who's going after weapons of mass destruction she is going to be a person where killing a mom is not a big deal for her and to have that threat there for her character meant that when charlie's is like put that car back in gear you're going to be a person you're going to be a man you're going to be a man you're going to be a man you're
going to listen to her, even if you're Dom, because you know that she would kill your son.
And we needed that to happen because sometimes they don't always give us that with villains
in movies where you're like, I don't know, you know, is the villain really going to do it
or is it an empty threat?
Right.
Most of the time, they show us something.
But I really just thought Charlize was a good pick here.
She's a great actress.
I felt it.
I believe that she would F some stuff up if he didn't follow her direction.
I agree with you.
I think she was probably the strongest villain we've had thus far in the franchise,
not only with her performance, but her follow-through as well,
being her taking out a character that has been well-established in this franchise.
Because I want to say she's been in every movie since five.
So you feel the loss of, oh, my God, actually just killed off this one character.
That's what I'm saying.
And she got a good scene with him.
That was where we saw Vin get, you know, the tears going, emotional depth we hadn't seen before,
and we saw that from her.
So she got to play a little bit more
of an emotional side as well
before, you know,
she's not in the, yeah,
before she was taken out.
That sucks.
But yeah, I'm walking away
from this movie feeling good.
Yeah.
I'm walking away still enjoying the franchise.
And honestly,
it's weird double feeling I'm having
because on one hand,
I'm like,
oh, I think these things
would have made the movie stronger.
But on the other hand,
I'm like,
Under the circumstances of what they, what they had to go with with outside factors at play,
I think they're still able to make a really fun, good movie.
Absolutely.
Like, I don't think it's like a far cry from the other ones.
I still think it stands up with five, six, and seven as being like this fun collection of this pivot of a franchise.
That being said, it's like, I don't know, I feel like even though we're like what eight movies in,
it feels like for me it's like there's like one two three four is like this kind of transitionary
movie uh five six seven and then everything like post um brian is going to be like it feels it feels
it feels a little different but it still feels the same i don't know it's like we'll see how it goes
long with the callbacks and still the family and then like that's why we were we were able to
call out the lines like we kind of know where it's headed but i also understand there there's
doing a little bit of a shift but it was still a blast for me still had a lot of fun i mean this
is definitely one of the longer ones this is this runs like two hours and 15 minutes about which
is um you know and it's not like you i could totally feel the time at all still still a lot of
fun but um yeah i'm i'm glad they made it and they they went all out and they're always giving
us new stuff to see that's just wackadoo so i'm here for it wakiddley do all right
right guys if you want to get wacky with us let us know in the comments below we had a great time
and thank you for joining us on this escapist adventure we love you guys and we'll see in the next one
