Starting point is 00:00:01 Rejects, I am Paige. I'm Jackie. And we are headed back to Middle Earth, folks. Jackie and I have conquered all of the Lord of the Rings movies and now we are taking on the Hobbit. We're going to say the Habit. The habit. We have a
Starting point is 00:00:17 habit of loving Hobbiton. Ah, yeah! Okay. Three, two. One. No spoiler. Sorry. Three, two, one. We just finished The Hobbit. I can't believe nobody told us this was a musical, Jackie.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Yeah, literally. Before we talk about the movie, we want to tell you. Are you doing way better than me? I always forget to say this. To get on over to Patreon so you could watch movies like this in full length with us. Watch long, play the movie. You could also ask us questions after, share your trivia and knowledge with us. What else, Jax?
Starting point is 00:01:05 Check out our shop. We have beautiful shirts like this. These are new. These are the new Lord of the Reject shirts. We also have some really great Halloween merchandise. A lot of great Halloween shirts. Yeah, those she-jacked ones. We got notebooks.
Starting point is 00:01:20 There's 15% off over there for our patrons. Just one more reason to become a member of the Royal Family. All right, Jax, what did you think? I really liked it. I just, I think that my favorite part was how long we really got to spend with the origin of him getting the ring and the schmigel scene. That was just like, it's obviously, especially the extended version. It's very, it's long and I was kind of sleepy going into it, which was a fate that couldn't have been avoided. I wish that.
Starting point is 00:01:52 No, I think we, I think we did great. Some energy needed. Like that really, really like, oh my God, like having that at the beginning of the third act, I was like, oh my. Yeah, I kind of got you re-excited. it again, right? For some people that we knew. It was yuckier than that's what I was going to say. It's like it was yuckier.
Starting point is 00:02:11 This one was. Because I guess it's like not as serious. Like it's Middle Earth isn't about to explode, you know? Right. Yeah. There definitely felt like there was a lot more humor in this. The stakes are a little lower. The stakes, yeah, I mean, they're still there, but I did feel like there was a lot more humor along the way.
Starting point is 00:02:28 It was definitely a lot grosser. I'm seeing if I went out of frame earlier. Which I love. I don't think I did. I think that because it didn't feel like there were so many like epic battle after another after another that you could appreciate the humor and the kind of gross stuff, it made me appreciate the bugs that I really am noticing a lot in these movies now. And I also spend so much more time with like the freaky species. Yes, which I love. Like the trolls.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Yeah, the trolls. Really? You love that suck. I love the trolls. I like the, I like, I like. The chin sack. I love his sack. I love the use of bugs throughout.
Starting point is 00:03:07 And it still feels like we're on a journey. It's just not, I don't know. I kind of like not having so many, like, gear up for all the war over and over again. Oh, yes, I understand. It was like a little more like a, I mean, the other trilogy is definitely a rag tag group, but it feels like very serious stakes drama.
Starting point is 00:03:27 And this was like, oh, we fell through the sand. And they're also like the, The dwarfs are great little fighters. And even when we did get to battle scenes, it was kind of like they were kicking ass a lot of times. They were kicking orcs ass. They were kicking the, what were the minds? Trolls.
Starting point is 00:03:45 The trolls. Like all, you know, it felt like it was a lot more, I guess, fulfilling all the way through, if that makes sense. No, I'm remembering, too, that, like, where the Balrog lived, where we went with Gimli, like, we did not really get to see the dwarves much at all. Right. You know?
Starting point is 00:04:06 So it makes a lot of sense that we are like so firmly living in dwarf land for this movie. Yep. Agreed. Oh, wait, no, wait. Oh, my God, wait, no, no, no, no. We didn't. No, wait, the trolls were underground and then the mountain trolls were the ones that were... I didn't have my notebook.
Starting point is 00:04:25 They were... They were trolls underground? Because that's why I said they looked like them. Their eyes were farther apart. It reminded me of the trolls. Either way, the goblins, the monsters. I think I feel like I got to appreciate those. Wait, the goblins were underground and the trolls were cooking them in the pot.
Starting point is 00:04:43 The trolls were cooking them. The orcs were who they battled above ground. But then when they fell through. I think those were goblins. Those were goblins. Oh, I'm sorry. I don't know either. Guys, I don't have my notebook.
Starting point is 00:04:56 We don't have our notebook, but I think that they can understand that we're appreciating. Why isn't that going? Is it going? No, it's going. Okay. It's going. That we're appreciating all of the monsters, truly. And I just like all the creatures.
Starting point is 00:05:15 And not to mention the brown wizard, too. I really liked him. Oh, I loved him. I want a whole movie with him. Yeah, we got Schmeagle too. We had some really fun musical numbers. I mean, we had shmigle. So I'm one over. We had fantastic musical numbers.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Okay, I will say the one with the goblins. I could have. That one. I don't know. I could have gone without it, but the other ones I loved. You didn't like being underground in those minds with all the bridges with them for so long? But I don't,
Starting point is 00:05:41 I felt like it was like out of context. Like all the other ones that made sense that everyone would be singing. But I'm like, I don't think the goblin would like start singing, you know? Like they're like, they're at Bilbo's house and they start singing. Everybody's entitled to some entertainment and they're like cultural. But he thinks that like they're spies like being,
Starting point is 00:05:59 I don't think that he'd be singing right then. Call me crazy You obviously don't know him like I do I don't know him like you do I can't believe they didn't slice his chin open They wait for his gut and not the ball sac chin No but imagine what it would have looked like That's what I wanted was the
Starting point is 00:06:16 Puss of all of it Heck are the questions, Jacks Wait actually they're right here I'm new here I'm new here It's my fist day She doesn't even go here. Here it is.
Starting point is 00:06:39 All right. Wait, what that? I thought we'd have more questions. Is that all we have? Oh my gosh. And it's from our two faves. All right. Our two faves are, oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Did they forget to make a post on the Patreon? Are we sure they're not the same person? They're the same initials. I know. No, I don't think they're different. All right. Let's jump into some questions. One question, Jackie.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Two questions, one question. One fun. fact. Our first one is from Jaden Rhodes. Hey Jaden. I'm curious because these Hobbit movies have a lot of hate. I'm usually stuck defending them. They are not as good as Lord as the Lord of the Rings, but I still hold a place for them. Agreed. I'm curious if y'all, if y'all agree with only seeing
Starting point is 00:07:26 the first movie so far and does it does the switch to CGI really noticeable for you guys? Is it noticeable? Yeah, is the switch to CGI noticed. I did really notice the CGI. I'm not going to lie to you. Yeah, I definitely noticed. You called it out in the first like two minutes. You're like, oh look like they're de-aged. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:45 It works though. I mean it did. Like the age regression. Like wow it really works for them in the hot. It did. Well for the Shire. Guys it looks so good. And for the elves, honestly, like the softer lens and the I mean it wasn't totally out of place.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Honestly, the most CGI I noticed were the when they landed. When they're all naked and bathing. Wait, I want to see it again. When they're all CGI little dwarf butts are in the waterfall in Rapenthal. I think that I like, I don't, I, like, I dissociated when I saw the butts. I was like, yeah, it was a little weird. I didn't notice it so much, though, not like horribly noticeable during, like, battle scenes and stuff.
Starting point is 00:08:27 I know I sit in the underground. I noticed it in the underworld. Yeah. I shouldn't call it the underworld. It's the key to... I will say that... These movies still always do a really great... I think I've commented on this before.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I am not necessarily afraid of heights, but I think that when height is used properly, it always makes me feel very nightmarish. Like, those are, like, what bad dreams... It's why shows, like, the squid games to me are always so scary. And maybe it's because we so often have dreams where you're up high or flying. Um, anyways, the stone guys, the, the rock'em-sockham guys.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Yeah, rock'em. That was so rad. That was so cool. No, that CGI didn't bother me. It was definitely, yeah, all there. The CGI that bothered me was when Gandalf landed on the mountain. And he slid off of the raven. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:24 I noticed that one, too. It was very like, we could have taken a little more. We didn't even need to see it. He could have just got it. We didn't even need to see it. He could have just been there. Agreed. I was like.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Yeah. That's a good one. Yeah. Next question. Next question. Jay, fuck. Jay Rushden says, if you lived in the Shire,
Starting point is 00:09:46 what occupation would you have? I would be the long leaf dealer. I think that. No way. Yeah, you would be the long leaf. Go down to page to get your long leaf. Go down to page. This is my Scottish accent.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I'm doing my best. I think I would open a little shop selling antiquities for your little hobbit hole. I thought you would be a cook. You're always eating such delicious things. I'm not that good of a cook. Oh, your food always looks good. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:26 But I hate cooking and I never want to cook. It's not my passion. It's not my passion. I think I'd like redecorate Hobbit holes. Oh, cute. Because I love decorating my house. That would be really cute. So I would just do that over. You'd be a hobbit interior interior designer.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Adorbs. Oh my God. Or I'd like, because we probably have ant problems because we have so much food in the pantry. True. Right? So I would be like a little hobbit in like little overalls. And I'd be like cocking all the walls to make sure that the ants can't get in. And there's so much food all the time.
Starting point is 00:11:04 in the middle of the forest, so I would just, like, stay busy. And then I'd also, like, I could paint or I could, like, re-aulster some of your furniture. It'd be a handy, or I'd be a shire, handy woman. Shire handy woman. Cute. What about, like, the garden?
Starting point is 00:11:17 I feel like you would be a cute little garden hobbit too. Gardner. I don't know if I have those skills. I feel like in the, in Hobbiton, maybe I would interact with, I would have interacted with that more growing up, so I'm sure. But I'm not,
Starting point is 00:11:31 I'm not really great at keeping plants alive, page. Yeah, me. I'm not the best. I wouldn't say. I'm really surprised that we only have two. I really am too. I'm like, do people like not, but he's saying, Jaden is saying that these movies get a lot of hate, wait, so that's really funny. I mean, but it is true. Like, I can understand. Is this video going to get like 10 views? Maybe. We will see. Like, but I can totally understand. Compared to Lord of the Rings, they're, they are not Lord of the Rings. The stakes are not quite as high. They're fun though, but they're not as fun as there's no ends. Yeah, they're, yeah, yeah. Also, wait, talk about like. But it was charming and fun. It was charming and fun. And we found out that there are other wizards.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Yeah. He literally didn't know about that. So my question is, are we going to see the other ones? I mean, we all love, like, it kind of felt like right, like the underdog story. Because that's what Lord of the Rings was basically about, right? Is the Hobbit being kind of the underdog? Well, now the dwarves get their kind of underdog story and they get to go save their kingdom.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I know that the main criticism is that they took a very short book, The Hobbit, and they kind of dragged it out into three, like, Lord of the Rings' length movies. So what I would love to know, and I'm sure Paige wants to know as well, is what was added, what was embellished, what did they really stay on for this movie? And also, if anyone knows what was not in the original unexended cut, I'm really curious. Yeah, I want to read the book now, especially if it's that short. Sure. I really want to read it, but I guess I'll wait until we finish this. No, yeah, no spoiler.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Yeah. But anyways. I guess we're going home. Good night. Is there anything else you wanted to talk about? I don't think so. I really liked how gross everything was. I didn't. I felt like it was very stinky and squelchy. But I guess that makes sense. It makes sense. It makes sense. Cause, like, Bilbo is so prissy and like, I don't have a bit. pocket square.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Yeah. So I guess I didn't like how sculchy it was. It freaked me out. I don't like squal. I remember when the troll thought he was a booger? Oh my God. I want to remember what Schneeckel said. And how many the hobbits is?
Starting point is 00:13:46 It eats the habitus. Roll them and strollum. Scrolem and moleum. Well, are you talking about in the Lord of the Rings? Yeah. No, it's Sam says to him. No. Strider to strider.
Starting point is 00:13:59 No slinker. No stinker. And we'll leave you with that one, folks. Bye stinkers. Bye-bye stinkers. And you slinkers. And you slinkers.
