You ready for this final chapter in Middle Earth, The Hobbit 3?
Let's do it.
All right, let's go.
Okay, so we didn't get an Elijah Wood cameo, but a nice little goodbye from Gandalf.
Yeah.
Dude, we just finished the Middle Earth movies.
We did, man.
here there's old school animated one that was done prior but other than that I don't think we're
going to watch that so I think we're down with our journey right that feels crazy that does feel
crazy because it's such a big epic journey it feels like how I feel when like I don't know
you get through a whole season of stranger things or a whole season of a good show and then you like
you get sad because you like you know you're going to miss it and like it's kind of that
That's, like, how I feel a little bit.
I feel like when you're really excited to go to an event,
like a friend's wedding or something that you're really looking forward to celebrating,
and then it's over and your vacation and it's done.
Yeah, and you're like, dang.
Man, that was so beautiful, but I can't believe that it's gone.
It's done.
Listen, guys, if you like going on this journey with us
and you're listening on Apple, Spotify, don't forget, five stars,
and also rejectnation shop.com.
Benedict Cumberbatch
He was the voice of the
He was a voice of the dragon
That's awesome
Oh it was Aiden Turner is that guy's name
I think he was in a CW show of mine
All right let's break this down babe
Let's let's you want to talk about it
Let's talk about it
What did you think
In terms of just the three Hobbit movies
We know we like the second one better than the first
Did it trend in that direction for the third for you
Oh no second one would still be
top and then probably
I don't know
maybe three than one maybe
one than three two is still
at the top for me I really love
love two is my favorite
as well too the other ones
felt a little more drawn out
although I do think that this was
a relatively satisfying
conclusion other than
the fact that
I'm sad that we didn't
actually get to get the
romance that was kind of promised to us or shown to us, you know, it was, looked like it was
going to be a real beautiful love.
And, you know, I do appreciate why does it hurt so much.
And sometimes you do get stripped from the things that you feel like you've earned.
I'm talking about from her perspective, Ontario.
You know, she was owed that at that point.
Sometimes it just doesn't happen that way, but that was kind of a bummer.
but it was beautiful ending
and he did save her
and it really really made me appreciate and love
leg loss even more
that he knew she loved her and even though he loved her
he did what was right
and that is what true love is
is to do what's best for that person
even if it's not beneficial to you
totally so yeah
I think there are some really great things about this
still the same themes friendship
greed
um you know
what uh rising tide lifts all ships
yeah um the enemy of your enemy is your friend you know a bunch of things like that that we
saw in the lord of the rings movies that we saw again here
which is cool um after all this who's who's the character that you feel most connected
to who's the one you like the most um you know i i was just really thinking right now
that i really like the moment between bard and alfred when alfred
says like what I forget what he delivered to him he said something like why are you still here what
do you do this for and bar just like turns around his family's there I really liked that because we
gave it all up for what like right said that the people could have were going to listen to you and
you gave all that up for what yeah and that made me I mean I really fell in love with bard's character
I think number one he he was just he was just a regular old guy on and they found that the dwarfs
found him he's he has a ship he smuggles them in and then sort of gives his life and all of his hope that
he has to them and helps him fight and within him we see this very natural leader come to life and then
i mean he really is the savior at the end of the day that saves the dragon he's the only one that
had the weapon that could actually do it um he just kind of came out of nowhere and i really love him
as a character and especially at the end you know that moment with alfred i thought was was really
great and i love that we never came back to alfred what i thought was going to happen is that we
see alfred that it was going to be poetic where he has all this gold and like he dies right he dies
with a bunch of gold in him but i like kind of that he just like got away with his boobs of gold and
he's just who knows what's happened to him karma's going to get him down exactly like but we know that he is
sort of the living metaphor for what this movie is, and a lot of it was, is that greed kind
of can take over everything to where you no longer actually see what love or kindness or
friendship even is. And the people that don't give into that, pure example, Thorin, once he
lets go of it, becomes a very great leader and ends up saving a lot of people. And, you know,
Bilbo never gave into it and
as we saw
a therial
Tariel
never gave into it
which is differently like there's multiple
characters that said terrial tarial
tarial tariel
so I think that you guys
we get a pass on that. Yeah like
my point being is that like
she elf still had love
in her heart but she was never taken over
by the greed. It's like
that that Alfred guy was a very clear example
of what greed does to
the people here and what we saw
happening but luckily it wasn't
able to fully take over
which is good yeah
I think that Torreal might have even
been my favorite character
because she is such a badass fighter
and she does what she believes
is right but she
she's still good to leg loss
she follows her heart
she stands up to her
lord you know
she does a lot of really hard things and
she was really really engaging
Bard might have been my favorite character
for the same reasons that you gave
I just think that he was so interesting
and even though he warned them
he still fought to save everybody
and the power of family absolutely
I also loved the legend
that they had spoken about that we saw last time
that the initial black arrow
did pierce the dragon
nobody believed it but this
that person did their job
his family member and so
he was only able to complete
the job because his family member had started it all of those years ago.
Totally.
Because probably one black arrow wouldn't have gone through the scales, but with the one
that had already gone through, he was able to shoot in that exact spot, which was the
opening for what was the thing that killed the dragon.
So that that was really smart.
I was surprised with how early we killed Smilghoff, but really the big through line
of the Hobbit was the orcs and a Zog.
so we needed to get to our main big bad
and Smog even though he's a massive dragon
really wasn't our main big bad of the trilogy
right so
I feel like that was smart to kind of get him out of the way
so then we could focus on the orcs
and the battling of all the orcs
wow man the dwarves
just to serve our love and attention and respect
even though we loved Gimley in the Lord of the Rings
I didn't know how great the dwarfs
were all of them you know like just
such a great
group of people who kind of have a bad rap sometimes but really liked them what are some of the
wishes that you had like was there anything sometimes people ask do the hobbit movies deserve to
exist like did we need to do these uh is there do you have a feeling on that and is there anything
you wish that we had seen that we didn't actually get to see hmm um there's not like a whole lot
popping up for me right now. What I do think and the reason they do exist is to give us that
foundation of Bilbo and why he kind of is the keeper of the ring from sort of almost start to
finish and how he gets it from, from Gallum. That's an interesting point. But we did already get
there within the first movie. And I guess it just gives us, what I was going to say is that I really
liked that when the dwarves came that Thorne was already out of his thing and then when you see
all the dwarves take over what the only the only foundation we had initially was Gimley and we
really really liked him and he showed us how strong dwarves were that the biggest like and
baddest characters can come in the smallest packages and then when the dwarves reunite in this
movie and take down when we see them just like going over all of these dorks it's it's an amazing
sight to see.
I don't, I mean, it's cool.
I understand if there's some people that like
the Lord of the Rings movies are perfect on their own
and we did really need the prequel to them.
Cool. I think we don't like need them, need them.
I'm not like, oh my God, whoo!
So glad the Hobbits were here.
I don't feel like that, but I would feel,
I do feel like that about Lord of the Rings.
Like those movies are epic.
I still really like these movies.
and the characters that are in it,
I think they can just stand alone,
but I like that they do loop together.
Yeah, yeah, I'm with you.
Like, for the Lord of the Rings movies,
one thing that is for certain,
Greg had us watch the theatrical cuts,
which I think was really cool.
And, you know, there's a lot of things
that go into the decisions that are made here on the channel,
which made sense for us to watch those.
But I am 100% on my own going to go watch the extended editions
because I'm obsessed.
with Lord of the Rings and I want to know more and I hear that we get some more character
development and some of our questions about their ages and their communities and all this stuff
are answered so I would I definitely want to do that I don't know if there's an extended
editions of the Hobbit I don't think so but if there are maybe if there are I'm less interested
you know I feel like I got the story I feel like it was already drawn out you're supposed to Lord of
the Rings where I was like oh my God there could have been so much more yeah this was like okay
that we dragged it a little bit but I'm still glad they existed it almost felt like a nice
dessert after we had seen Lord of the Rings like we'd finish this huge meal of Lord of the Rings
and it was like I'm not ready to leave the restaurant yet can we have something else and then we
had this little ice cream sunday you know like just a little little thing on top so it was nice to
spend more time in Middle Earth it was definitely nice to spend more time with Gandalf and Bilbo
Bilbo I just have so much love and respect for yeah yeah that was cool yeah it was cool and I mean
I like that you know we got to see Radigas coming in there I like that the eagles always come through
at the end they kind of save the day um you know that moment between bilbo and thorin was really
it was really heartfelt like that really got me and it really got me especially when he's like
the eagles are here.
He's like the eagles,
the eagles are here.
You know,
that sort of sums up
in a way like love and power
and like hope sort of like
the eagles to me in this
in this whole thing provide hope
and that's what I, you know,
what Bilbo in a way was communicating
and hope that Thorne was not dead
although he knew but it was like
hanging on to that last thread that
when you lose someone your first thing is
denial um so i just really like that moment i thought that there was a lot of you know still good
good writing um but i do think that the second movie was is probably the best out of the hobbits
and um better paste i have so many things to share with you now that we can finally do trivia
that doesn't um spoil us exactly great okay so here we go um
When the movie was promoted with a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, several fans camped outside the hall the day before the panel in order to get seats.
In the middle of the night, the fans were awoken by cast members Lee Pace and Andy Circus, who greeted the waiting fans and delivered autographs and photos for hours.
In the end, Pace passed out from exhaustion and shared a mattress with a fan.
Oh, my God.
That is amazing.
That's crazy.
Wow.
my god oh my god um okay damn somebody just told me i think it was gregg that told me that
or maybe christian somebody said lee paces they're uh possibly up for batman which would be crazy
i don't know if what's happened by the time you guys are watching now uh this is the last movie
featuring legendary screen actor sir christopher lee sarah on the white to be completed and
released before his death on june 7th 2015 at 93 lee was one of the
a handful of cast members to star in both Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit Triloges
was also the only cast member of either trilogy to have met J.R. Tolkien.
Wow. Wow. Cool. That's crazy. Wow. That's wild.
For the scenes where Gladriel picks up Gandalf,
a dummy of Sir Ian McKellan was used. This dummy was called Michael Gambon.
It was even included with the name on the call sheet as seen in the Appendezus documentary
because Gambon and McKellon sometimes get mistaken for one another.
That's funny.
It's a good dummy.
Okay.
The elk on which Leipace,
Thandriel rides,
is played by a horse named moose.
Okay, that's an elk.
Okay, yeah, because remember I was like moose
and then I said elk?
You did.
During the confrontation,
during Galadriel, Saramon,
Aldrin, Radagast,
and Gandalf and Dolgador,
Galadriel fights Sauron
using Erindel's light.
Oh, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy,
she gives it to Frodo.
We see.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
She does.
I didn't know it was the same way.
That's cool.
Leapace's parents visited him on set,
and subsequently, Sir Peter Jackson offered them to be extras in the movie.
They're given roles as Lake Tower Villagers and filled the scene with Ian McKellon.
However, according to Pace, they were cut out of the movie because his father was hamming it up during his scenes.
Oh, it's so great.
He totally overacted.
Love it.
Several cast members kept preempting.
props from the movie when shooting wrapped.
Martin Freeman kept his sword and prosthetic ears,
while Richard Armitage kept his original orchist sword,
and Lee Pace kept his elven sword,
which he keeps in his umbrella stand.
Had to walking into somebody's house.
Awesome.
So much stuff about Lee Pace.
It's interesting.
Okay.
Billy Boyd, who played Pippin in the Lord of the Rings trilogy,
co-wrote and performed the song The Last Goodbye for the end credits of the movie.
Wow, that's awesome
That's really cool
So cool
Let's see
Legloss is not the book
However the book
States that all Woodland elves
Were present during the battle
And as an immortal elf
He is most certain to have been near his father
When the events took place
Wow so they really built in
Legolas's character here
I'm glad they did that
Because this was just so badass of him
Agreed
Despite appearing in all three movies
Of the trilogy Kate Blanchett
was only on set for how many days of the entire production of all entire production for the
trilogy two oh eight okay two i thought three movies i know i thought i thought i was in less days
movies i was ready for the shock factor rocks i was going for a shock shocking to me factor oh
okay damn uh this is the only movie in the hobbit trilogy as well the lord of the rings trilogy
where a leg loss blinks normally.
In all the other movies,
he only blinks when he is surprised or injured.
Oh.
I'm so,
there's so many questions about that.
Despite playing his father in the trilogy,
Lee Pace is two years younger
than Orlando Bloom.
Sir Ian McKellen and Kate Blanchett
are the only actors to appear in all six
of the Middle Earth movies.
That's cool.
Rightfully so.
Stephen Frye left behind a large supply
of alcohol when his scenes were wrapped he were given away his gag prizes when filming
wrapped oh my god i wonder if he was drunk the whole time i love it billbo finds a
handkerchief back at his bag end home in the hobbit an unexpected journey he had forgotten his
handkerchief as he hurried out of the home to catch up with the dwarves at the beginning of the
adventure oh that's what that yeah i've forgotten that's awesome that's really cool um there's so
many more, obviously. This is one of the biggest
franchise, part of one of the biggest franchises of all
time. So you guys
let us know what's your favorite piece of trivia about
The Hobbit in the comments. Tara, any
final thoughts about Middle
Earth? Oh man, this
was such a fun adventure
and really appreciate you guys
coming on this journey with us, even though obviously
we're not pros in this world.
But I really, really
enjoyed it, even though
I don't know all the stuff
and I don't pronounce all the names right.
this was still a blast for me.
Even if I'm wrong, a lot of the time.
Dude, you're allowed to just be a movie fan who's watching a movie because you like movies.
