Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class) rewinds the clock to the origins of the secret spy organization. Set during the chaos of World War I, the film explores how global conflict, shadowy conspiracies, and larger-than-life villains gave birth to the Kingsman legacy. The story centers on Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, The Grand Budapest Hotel) as Orlando, Duke of Oxford, a pacifist aristocrat drawn into a worldwide plot manipulating nations into war. Alongside him is Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator, Blood Diamond) as the fiercely loyal Shola, and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia) as Polly, whose intelligence and resolve prove just as vital as brute force. The next generation steps forward through Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness, Beach Rats) as Conrad Oxford, whose journey from idealism to brutal reality forms the emotional backbone of the film. Starting point is 00:00:00 This video is sponsored by Rula. More on them just a bit. Let's do this. Three, two, one. All righty, guys, we just got done watching The Kingsman. If you are listening to us on Apple or Spotify, please give us a five-star rating. If you're on the YouTube, like, comment, subscribe when you do. Ring the bell.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Ring the bell. That were you notified. Thank you to prep for helping edit down all these highlights. We super appreciate you. These movies have been a lot of fun. Why don't you give like your, like keep it short, like a minute of your thoughts of this film. Time of Terra. One to two minutes, tops.
Starting point is 00:00:46 I really want to see that scene again where Harry is just explaining that few moments too eggsy of the set of events here that led to the Kingsman just to see. now that I have got context, but I thought this was a great prequel. I really enjoyed it. I think Ray Fines just added so much emotional depth, the vulnerability he showed. And I thought it was very fascinating, too, that's the person who led the, that started the Kingsman organization, had a pacifist side to him after the horrors of war. And then, you know, he had to break that code because of what happened with his son and then just his ideological way and just to save England. It's just really a fascinating story. And I think the father-son dynamic was so beautifully done in this film as well. I know that was one of the things that Tara and I most enjoyed with
Starting point is 00:01:40 Exe and with Harry, that mentorship father-type father-son type of storyline in the first film and the second one as well. It was just, I think it was the heartbeat of the film. So and the action was great. A couple of times I thought the pacing was, it was really interesting seeing the intertwining between a slow dramatic drama and the Kingsman energy, but I still really enjoyed this one a great deal. I thought it was a really, if I, when I rewatch this series, it's going to be this one and then one and two, but I really adore this series a great amount. What about you? Yeah, I really liked it. Um, I don't think it needed to be two hours, 10 minutes. I think maybe they could have shaved out 20 minutes, right? And then it probably
Starting point is 00:02:23 would have been like, that film's perfect. Because then the pacing might have picked up a bit. We didn't get as many fight scenes in this, but when we did, we did still get longer one-ers, someone takes with good cuts, good master shots
Starting point is 00:02:39 where they're actually showing us all of the action, which is great. I like that they added in Poppy in here, female with a good hit, which was a lot of fun. Polly, right? Yeah, What did I say? Poppy.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Yeah. Polly. Anyway, she was great. I thought that was a lot of fun. And I really like how they took him through his journey on losing his son. They take him in the depths of grief, which is, I think, very relatable to a lot of people, right? When he cut to him and he's like, to taste, it's another sketch day. And then he gets up and he's like, oh, I'm feeling much better.
Starting point is 00:03:18 I like that. It's just real human stuff. they added in there. So I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was a lot of fun. We're going to get to our questions. First one's from J. Dell. If the Kingsman brought in another real historical figure as a secret villain,
Starting point is 00:03:31 who would you want? Napoleon, Hitler, or someone else, and why? Which one do you think Kingsman style storytelling could make the most unhinged and entertaining? Probably Hitler. Yeah, Hitler would probably be one to do. Just, I mean, as being a Jew myself, of course. I'd want to see, I mean, Napoleon was obviously know about him, but like, want that outcome just to see the Kings get his comeuppance and do the Kingsmen do this thing. But with Napoleon, he's French. Not that we can't do French speaking. And then, I mean, you could always do the whole thing where you have English dubbing underneath. But you could also do the thing where you did, I think it was called, was it Valky? The Tom, the Tom Cruise film where you have them speaking German at first. And then you would, immediately go to the English, just saying they are speaking German, but we're just going to
Starting point is 00:04:24 make it English for the audience now. So you could do that as well. But I'd be cool with either or if they want to go that route. I think I might have heard that they are doing Kingsman 3 continuing on the series from 2. I think I saw that. Not sure you guys will have to let us down the comments. But yeah, Hitler might be good. I mean, just continuing on from World War I to 2, just seeing where the Kingsman organization, how it evolved and continued on before we did get to exe and to Harry. So it might not be a bad idea because if you do Napoleon, that's, I mean, well, uh, so Hitler's really unhinged.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Obviously, that would be very entertaining, which is why what you're asking about, Jadale. I think like, for in general, an audience would cling to Hitler and be like, yeah, I would love to see the Kingsman take him out and make him suffer. If there was a way to display that, that was, uh, historic. correctly correct, probably not, but maybe to show us, hey, how did we get in his way in between and in all the horrors that he was, you know, fulfilling on his end? But what were we doing behind the scenes? I think it would make a really fun story. All right, next question. Jaden Rhodes. Thank you, Jaden for being a Roe Riechick, asking a question. The movie is usually
Starting point is 00:05:41 overhated, in my opinion. It's a very fun film. I do think the end credit scene is crazy. Did we see the end credit scene? I guess, but I love to. gone, huh. But I don't think we are getting them. We might need to really quick take a pause to see if there's an end-credit scene, just so... Now it's time to address the balance of my new flock, thanks to you, comrade, our left hand is strong.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Oh. Our right hand now. Need strengthening. Come in. Don't be shy. Come, come. My shepherd. Hi.
Starting point is 00:06:16 It is an honor, Comrade Lennon. And your name? Adolf Hitler. What? Oh, Jesus. Okay, so they did do that. Yeah. Okay. Fellow reject, I've been going to therapy since I believe around 2012.
Starting point is 00:06:36 And admittedly in the past couple of months, I haven't been as consistent as I like to be. And with that, I tend to fall into, like, old patterns of having a difficult time asking for help, having a difficult time being honest with myself, having a difficult time just opening up in general. But going back recently, it's helped me reconnect with my actual values in life. And already, I feel like the direction has been helping me get my mental health and personal life back on the track I wanted to be at. And that's why today I'm happy to talk about Rula. It's an online platform that helps you connect with licensed therapists that will specialize
Starting point is 00:07:10 in you. Rula makes it easy to find affordable, high-quality therapy that's actually covered by insurance. You just go to Rula.com slash rejects, answer a few questions, and they'll match you with a therapist who fits your needs and schedule. You can meet with them online. And Rula patients typically pay $15 per session when using insurance. They made therapy accessible in a way that alleviates a lot of the problems that I often hear from people when they're trying to get into therapy. There's no waiting list. There's no calling around. It's seamless. And of course, if you do decide to sign up, you'll more than likely be asked how you heard about them. It would mean a lot if you could also support us and
Starting point is 00:07:46 let them know we sent you by choosing our name in their drop-down menu. And sincerely, you deserve mental health that works for you and not against your budget. So you can find the therapist that's right for you at rula.com slash rejects. That's rula. com slash rejects. Thank you again, Rula. Take care of yourselves, people. Um, so, uh, you think the end, yeah, the end current scene, it is crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:14 You would have loved to see how they have gone in Siegles, but I don't think. think they're getting them right they haven't egsie has said that he's down but there hasn't been any movement on it but i'm curious if y'all would like to see more sequels or prequels um yeah i mean obviously i think all three of these films have been really good with great action especially you know vaughn is involved with it uh i i think anybody would be down yeah as i just pointed out with the hitler thing that i think that would make sense to continue on with the prequel by going to World War II, seeing how the organization progresses before we get to EGZ and Harry. And then I would also love to go to see more adventures with Harry and with EGZ. So I think that is the proper way to do
Starting point is 00:08:59 it. And I also think there's this fascinating thing that with this dark organization here that we have with the villains where they try to control all these popular or rather all these political figures to bend to their will so that they can control the world. It's, It's just, it's a really fascinating and dark thing that possibly does happen. And it's scary at the same point, too, and that there is this organization that does not have to deal with the bureaucracy and they get shit done. So I love that.
Starting point is 00:09:31 This whole series is just so much fun. Directed really well and just they do a good job on all of the fight choreography. And along with the script, there's a lot of bars in here, especially with this one. They add a lot of poems that have. specifically that have to do with war, especially when he's at the funeral and he reads that one.
Starting point is 00:09:50 It's pretty, it's like a savage bar drop and I really, really liked it. Sure. Jay Rushden, would an animated show of Kingsman work? Yeah, you could do an animated show of Kingsman. I mean, with any type of show, whether it's animated or live action, it gives you a great level of depth.
Starting point is 00:10:08 You have more time to spend in the world to add world building or just whatever, whether it's in the prequel sphere or just more in the present. So I'd be open to it. Having said that, I still would like to get a sequel to the prequel and a sequel to the sequels. So I'm open to it. I just want to do the other ones as well.
Starting point is 00:10:27 But what about you? Would you like an animated show? Yeah, I mean, I don't really watch much animated. I'd much prefer live action with Kingsman. The thing with animated is obviously they can do whatever they want, fight choreography, and stretch the bounds a lot more with animated. I really like to see the camera work and the fight choreography with live human actors. But that's just me.
Starting point is 00:10:54 J. Dell, if you're creating the very first Kingsman code in the Kingsman era, would you choose a title based on royalty, literature, or something completely ridiculous just to throw enemies off? Which one fits your spy personality? I mean, I like what the Kingsman did choose with Arthur in the roundtable, but you're saying to throw off your end. Enemies, right? Well, they're not going to know your code names because you're doing it in shadow.
Starting point is 00:11:21 And, I mean, you're only calling it out when I guess you're in face-to-face with them, but you're probably taking them out. So, but I like the names that they did with... She's going to go with awesome sauce. Yeah. So what's your name? What's my name going to be? Yeah, you got to make one up.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Oh, my God. I don't know. He doesn't know. We're going to give him a second. Well, what would your name be? I just said. I'm going to go with awesome sauce. Awesome sauce?
Starting point is 00:11:45 Yeah. Oh, okay. I go, okay. Rise L. fans who played Rasputin actually studied traditional Russian dance and martial arts-inspired choreography, fight scenes with, oh, wow, would feel hypnotic, theatrical, and historically absurd, just like the real Rasputin's legend. Wow. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:12:05 As I was saying, while we were reacting to it, it felt like about, and I loved it. He also, in his performance, not only with the heavy eyes and the makeup, which I really loved, too, It made him feel, and just his performance, he felt so unhinged. And the fact that he could do all this physical stuff, too, and it never felt like he could die until Polly, of course, shot him in the head. Right. He really felt so menacing and scary. And then, like, being able to just vomit out the poison because he does the poison on his own,
Starting point is 00:12:34 he gives himself a little bit so he can, so he becomes immune. Yeah, for sure. But he's just a fascinating and scary-ass villain. He's probably one of my favorites. I was a little, I was happy they killed him, but I was a little unhappy that they killed him off kind of early in the film. It almost felt like it was a whole film later when we got to the actual main villain. But I would have preferred that they still kept him on in a little bit later. It killed him off a little bit later on in the film. But I hated his guts because he was so evil, but I was
Starting point is 00:13:06 enjoying watching his performance. He's one of those villains like, I love to hate him, but I love to watch him. Yeah. So it was a great performance, though. Yeah. All in all, I think this was a really great film. Fun times. I liked the callback with the goat.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Normally, when I state a lot of callbacks, I'm like, that would have been cool. And it never happens. This one, they did it. So I'm glad we were on the same wavelength with that. I think this is a lot of fun. And, of course, I'd be down if they made any other ones. Do you have any last thoughts for the people? I mean, just really enjoyed this one, too.
Starting point is 00:13:43 I think it does what any sequel or prequel does. It's got to justify its own existence. And I think using a real life event like World War I and also justifying the existence of the Kingsmen, why do they have to be around? Why do they have to get around the bureaucracy and be there? And I think it answered those questions in a very satisfying way for me.
Starting point is 00:14:04 And I thought, again, Ray finds just such an emotional performance. I think the one scene, he was phenomenal in the whole film, but the one scene that really stood out to me when he was breaking down and showing his vulnerability as an actor when his son passed away, Conrad. And I just, I really felt it. At the end of the day, he's just an actor in a scene, right? But I really felt it coming through the screen.
Starting point is 00:14:28 And my heart was breaking for him in that moment. It was such an incredible performance. And I'm really appreciative that we get to watch that guy on screen. He's so good. Yeah. I'm with you on that. Well, we love you guys. Make sure that you leave a comment, leave a like,
