Starting point is 00:01:24 Let's do it. well done we demand a sequel beautiful beautiful Andrew okay we got to keep this tight tight as like a noose internet was not working earlier but I got to get Andrew out of here my friend yes what did you think about this and you finally got to watch it really really quick if you are listening on napal or Spotify make sure you give us five bat ratings yes we watch Lego Batman spoiler review yes I really loved it I think my favorite part of it was just Bruce and Batman's his arc just his acceptance of family. He was afraid of loss. Didn't want to go through that again. His pain, I think you said
Starting point is 00:02:03 it best during the reaction. I think this is one of the best depictions of Batman just going through it. I think a lot of the films, you know, they focus more on the villains than on Batman himself. I think that's why, sorry if this is a hot take, but Batman begins as my personal favorite film. I think that film focused the most on his origin story, but also like why this man dresses up like a bat. I think it was my favorite depiction of Batman. And for that particular reason but i still think there's that that desire to get that story out there but i love this depiction of him was just done in such a methodical way but i think what i love about these lego movies it's such a novel idea just like who's um but there's so much emotional depth and these stories are so damn good
Starting point is 00:02:43 on top of the incredible visuals um which are like story uh which are you know characters in itself the visuals but it's the emotional depth in the characters and the stories that get us so invested i mean the you know the visual uh with the characters that's being like a character itself Like, that's just icing on the cake. Absolutely. Yeah, I think this was a really, really genuinely impressive movie. I'm in awe of it. I feel like it's like a 9.5 out of 10 for me.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Only because I feel like it's maybe like 10 minutes too long. You kind of feel that? I think that whole thing with, like, him going to the Phantom Zone and stuff, I don't really feel like we needed that little bit. Because I think we could have got in there without, like, I kind of feel like just kind of like expands the movie out for a little bit more. than it needs to because he's barely even there at the venom zone for like he's only there for like a couple minutes you know right and i didn't really think we needed uh that i feel like they could that's my one little thing out of everything it's maybe like five to ten minutes a little too long but everything even like after that and before that i think it's beautiful because
Starting point is 00:03:46 normally when you take a character like this from uh like he was such a small role in the in the lego movie and they managed to take a funny caricature of batman and tell a genuinely heartfelt story that manages to maintain the comedy and never gets bogged down with drama or has comedy undercut the drama. As the movie progresses, they utilize their finale to really just lay
Starting point is 00:04:12 into the sincerity more as opposed to undercutting scenes with comedy. So I thought that the fact that they managed to make this movie in general is beautiful. It's amazing how they pulled it off. And I think, too, that for an art,
Starting point is 00:04:28 for Batman normally it's like you can think about like in the Batman Robert Pattinson learns like oh he can't just be someone to fear he has to be a hero uh if Batman begins yeah Bruce Wayne's arc does there's there's an arc in there I feel like this is the most definitively easy to click onto and most fleshed out character development of a Batman we've ever gotten in a movie of Batman I would say Batman begins it's to move past his fear and not let revenge overtake him but yeah yeah and i think like you really watch a full right right right no no i agree and i think that's cool that you get to watch a transformation of batman as a narcissistic loner who has to realize that it's the fear of losing people
Starting point is 00:05:15 why he keeps people at a distance he's afraid to let people in yeah um for that but you know you have to like let that and that's like a great lesson for people to apply and realize so i think that's actually kind of beautiful what they told here while honoring the Batman mythos the entire time and to your point if you do that in real life you're gonna end up alone and feel isolated yeah and which he did like when he went to the Justice League party he's like wait why wasn't I invited and it's like yeah Batman's the most popular character but also too because he doesn't let anyone in and everyone's like I can invite you yeah I like that commentary too especially in a world of social media now of sometimes people might look like
Starting point is 00:05:55 they're the happiest or the most popular or whatever but really a lot of times it can be it can truly be lonely at the top and I like that very literal visual demonstration and right yeah yeah no I agree I was just gonna say the last thing I just wanted I'd love that the theme about this film too is all about
Starting point is 00:06:10 relationships and and like also too I love how they highlighted Joker and Batman's relationship as well and they did in such again a very methodical way like it's like I hate you I hate you too and like Joker just wanted to be acknowledged by Batman. I just think they really, it was
Starting point is 00:06:27 such a smart way to do. And I love Zach Gilefenakis. He did a great job as the Joker. Like, he was funny and was heartfelt too. I'd like, actually felt bad for the Joker when he wasn't being acknowledged by Batman. Like, this is it really smart. Yeah, the deconstruction of the characters allowed it to have this level of self-awareness
Starting point is 00:06:43 that never felt like they were insulting or putting down the characters. It always felt like there was a love for the entire Batman mythology, the entire mythos of all these characters. So I thought that was like a brilliant angle to take while simultaneously being really cool to look at and pulling off the bat family that's one of the things that i think is really special about this is like okay they did like bad man mask of the
Starting point is 00:07:07 phantasm you can't pull off like a lot of what happens there because of the kind of genre that animated movie is but the combination the kind of genre of the lego movie franchises the kind of animation it is they're able to really go that extra mile into something that a lot of live action films are afraid to kind of explore like bat family stuff the lie i feel like james gunn's trying to get there now robin is constantly like i don't know if he'll ever do a robin and i like how this movie actually has an awareness about it and manages to hit these emotional beats for the characters and and use enough self-awareness to get around anything like the whole thing with
Starting point is 00:07:42 him having like a bringing a kid along they make they acknowledge that that's kind of weird and strange yeah it takes advantage like i like how you see that bad man's making so many bad choices and mistakes along the way yeah and also too he said you're 100% expendable. And then also, too, I agree with you that maybe it might not have been necessary to go to the Phantom Zone, but at least like that there was a self-refactor, where he was reflecting in himself in that moment, like, holy shit. Yeah, I did like that. I'm not, I'm not a bad guy per se, but I'm also not great either in certain aspects. So, yeah, I think for that perspective, it was necessary. The gray part of the relationship. Yeah, yeah. Like, I feel,
Starting point is 00:08:20 what's cool about watching this now is because this came out several years ago. Do you know what 2017 is my guess yeah we're in 2024 now and i think in case you guys are now we're 24 now and there's been additional batman properties ever since and there's been such an evolution with dc and i know that james going kind of wants to keep all these things connected and whatever but i think like another lego batman movie uh wouldn't be a bad idea as a chance to kind of like make fun of the dc universe and watch the evolution of what's happened with batman how there's been so many Batman ever since you know I think it would actually be
Starting point is 00:08:52 an appropriate time for them to do a sequel maybe by the time you get like a little bit further into the DC universe but a Lego Batman too I feel like they can actually pull off something that's unique and different and I think the voice work on everyone was also so phenomenal like Will Arnett coming in here to bring an actual full-on
Starting point is 00:09:09 performance is pretty amazing to me no this was a lot of fun so much emotional depth obviously for me that's my bread and butter So, you know, I loved all that, but yeah, great movie. I hope they make another one. And obviously, too, after this, I can't wait to do Lego Part 2 or whatever it's called.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Lego Movie 2. Lego Movie 2, sorry. Yeah, I'm excited. I just love this whole universe. It's fun. Yeah. It's great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:34 And, of course, animation. Yeah. It goes out sane. Amazing. We love to talk longer, but unfortunately, we had so many technology before. Sorry, got to get this guy out of here. But thank you guys so much for being here. Really appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Keep a look out for a reaction to Lego movie Part 2. See you guys soon. Thank you.
