Oh, this is going to be awesome. Yes. Because we're going to watch the Lego movie today. Good team working on this. It's all about the teamwork, Greg.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I love that. That felt so fresh. I thought it would all come pouring back in my... My brain, but no, that was great. That's a great movie. No, I don't know the song. Everyone knows a song. The song's one of the best parts.
Starting point is 00:03:07 But anyway, Andrew. Yes. You were a little quieter than usual during this. Was I? Yeah. I was soaking it all in. Whatever, man. Oh, Nick Offerman?
Starting point is 00:03:18 What did you think? What I think is, if you guys are listening to us on Apple or Spotify, you should definitely give us five stars. That's first of all. And also, if you want cool teas like these, reject names. Shop.com. Please do that. I really, really love this movie. There was a lot of great stuff in here. I loved Emmett, first and foremost, such a great character, had such a great arc. I love that he's the every man or the forgotten man, if you will, actually, not the
Starting point is 00:03:44 ever man, but the forgotten man. And I love this journey that we go through with him throughout the film of kind of self-discovery, just finding out who he is. And again, this arc he goes on that by the end, like, that any of us can be special, but it all starts with the power of belief and that's something like that's so relatable. You know, it all starts with belief. And I've experienced that throughout many times in my life, whether it's, sorry, I know it all goes back to working out, but whether it's working out or whatever it is in life, like, it all starts with belief. And when you're, when you believe in your mind, you can achieve anything. And I just, I think that's just such a beautiful message. And then I love at the end, too, like that this is all
Starting point is 00:04:25 like, I mean, if they would have just kept it in the Lego world, like, that's cool, too, but that it's actually like the creativity of the kid and he's telling a story. Yeah. I thought that was like ingenious. I wasn't expecting that. Um, and I think that's like, that goes back to the whole creativity, uh, angle. And I thought that was great. And then the father too. I thought, I mean, he's not, obviously, you know, it's all reflective with his character as Lord business. Um, but I thought that was a nice little arc that he had too. And like, I could understand his, his, his thing of not wanting to let go. Because. because that's one of the craziest and coolest Lego sets I've ever seen in my life. Like I said, growing up, I sucked at building Legos. I thought they were cool and fun to play with, but I, for the life of me, could not build. And if I could build something like this, I might not want my kids or my friends to touch anything that's done this meticulous and this incredible. So I could understand, you know, not wanting anyone to touch it and wanting it to be. But I do like this little arc that he goes on where, you know, he's willing to let go. and this beautiful message like again that you know the special message that he got and I thought it was just really well executed and again like you said I think it was a nice story like of a father and son that was it was a nice surprise twist at the end it was a nice surprise twist at the end so you actually were paying attention I was okay did you think I was sleeping because I wasn't talking as much as usual weren't talking as much no I was reacting this is a reaction channel it's not a talking channel what I've been told
Starting point is 00:05:54 Hold in the comments. I thought like, you know, I thought you were not going to shut up the whole time. But you shut up the whole time. This is what the comments have been saying, shut up. That's why you don't read comments or else you're not going to be yourself. Because that's a big part of the journey here is about being yourself. I like this whole idea with creativity. It's kind of like with filmmaking or like take writing, for example.
Starting point is 00:06:17 You know, there's always guidelines on structure and how plot should play out and books on how to write screenplays but at the end of the day you know if you follow just the rules if everything becomes predictable and that's kind of like the antithesis to creativity for that spark and having this like rudimentary type of way of viewing things and this movie inspiring to go back to that childlike creativity where you kind of have like a stream of consciousness with how you want things to play out is really fun while this movie does follow a structure of save the cat of it's still like the act one act two three beats it still follows that that screenplay structure but at the same time the scenes within them are so creative like i think the said during the reaction that the the visuals
Starting point is 00:07:04 in itself are such a character of the movie and it really when by the time you get to the end of it it really does feel like um like a little kid is is putting all this together himself you know and that helps the personality of the visuals come to life and actually feel like part of the characters when you look at it in hindsight you're watching it through the lens of a child like that's the real pov of the story so i thought it was beautiful like yeah everything about it's like it's like there's so multi-genre you know it's a comedy it's an animated movie it's also an action movie oh yeah it's a sci-fi thrill adventure at the same time you know and i think that it like and then it even hops in a genres intentionally like a western i thought it was so impressive
Starting point is 00:07:51 And it's cool to see a movie that's still 10 years later when I was like baked watching this in the theaters, not remember anything. My mind could not keep up with. I'm not the kind of person. Some people when they would ingest the greens and they watch something, they're able to like get lost in it. I have ADHD or at least I believe I was diagnosed once. I want to go to a neurologist and make sure that it's an accurate one instead of just a psychiatrist. But anyway, that's a whole other story. I get racing thoughts easily.
Starting point is 00:08:19 So when I would take, you know, the greens, I would get extremely racing thoughts. So I don't really absorb things. That's why I'd forget stuff because my mind's like racing. And I only get like little bits and pieces. So watching this right now was like, oh, this felt so fresh to me. And I'm having like, even though I thought I'd be more familiar than I actually was, I was still like impressed. They got a smile on my face pretty much the entire runtime of this movie. Amen.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Yeah, man, absolutely. Also, too, like, major props to the cinematography and, like you said, the visuals. Like, I, and we're going to read the trivia in a sec, but I can't even imagine, like, again, I was so invested in the story and the characters and the arcs and all the creativity and all that, but I can't imagine how long it took to come up with all the visuals that they had to, because every shot looked like they poured so much time in the day. It really did. It looks like a pain in the ass. But I appreciated it because I could tell so much hard work and care and love went into all these shows. shots yeah and you because if you ever try i i suck at building legos i'm really not good i'm really not good and this movie looks like they did a blend of just pure animation and actually building some legos themselves i'm not talking about just the real world side at the end i'm saying like i think they
Starting point is 00:09:35 actually did that for some of the visuals i believe and you kind of get that like during the chase scenes there's always something going on like in the background and like oh my god there's it's like over stimulating in like a really great way because there's just life happening all around you and every bit of the editing is on point like the timing of the editing and the voice work is perfect too a lot of times when you get celebrities cast and stuff it's really easy to kind of just get pulled out
Starting point is 00:10:04 and hear the celebrity's voice and watching this even though I've seen like Chris Pratt do animation before I'm usually aware I'm listening to Chris Pratt even in Mario I'm very much aware I'm listening to Chris Pratt But here, all I hear is Emmett. Yeah, it's a great character. And I think even for Will Ferrell's voice, I thought he was perfect as president
Starting point is 00:10:24 business, you know? Like, I think this was like a very well-crafted piece of cinema. Yeah, and him is Lord Business. Like, he was menacing. He was threatening, but also, too, like, I pie that, even though it was, like, again, meant to be reflective to his character in the real world, but I bought that, that change in his character, too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:42 It was really well done. Like, the arcs in this film, like, this film's a lot deeper. then it's a it's a lego movie so i just i really appreciated it um it's a really impressive uh film and uh i know we got that one little meta moment uh with uh the millennium falcon in there but kind of made me sad we didn't get to see lord miller's solo film it probably would have mason is very creative and not generic yeah yeah for sure for sure uh but yeah no great um i'm very curious to see what lego batman and what the i know that christ mcc K did that one, and I don't, did Lorden Miller?
Starting point is 00:11:18 I don't know. I don't think they did the sequel. I think they worked on it, but didn't direct it. But either way, I'm curious to see where the journey, how it continues, because I'm just so invested in this world now. I love the world building and how the rules worked and all that. It's like literal world building. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:35 True. Very good point. Yeah, but it was awesome. Everything is awesome. Everything is awesome. What a catchy song. Yeah, really. That one's not leaving my head anytime soon.
Starting point is 00:11:44 like this has so much rewatch value you can't say that with a lot of movies but there's just so many a lot of times when you think about easter eggs and stuff you're thinking about like common book movies or star wars or whatever and i can only imagine what little trinkets are are placed throughout this film that we missed you know because there's so much so much here was there a particular lego that came in that was your favorite besides lego batman i mean it's lego batman for main obviously oh man bennie oh benny with the spaceship spaceship yeah Charlie Day was, he's hysterical. I love all his 80s quips and all that.
Starting point is 00:12:20 That was so funny. All right, cool. Should we get into some trivia? Dad, did you pull it up already? I shall do it. Come on, Andrew. What's wrong with me? Okay, Lego movie.
Starting point is 00:12:31 You're taking forever. Oh, really quick out of 10. What do you think this got average rating on IMDB out of 10? IMD is kind of a dick. 7.8. 7.7. Yeah. That was really close.
Starting point is 00:12:48 This movie's definitely like a 9 out of 10, a minimum. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It should be higher up at 7.7. But let's get into trivia. Where are you? There you are. Okay, we got circles. There we go.
Starting point is 00:13:00 The term master builder is actually an official designation by the Lego company. Per their website, Lego master builders are the highly trained in super creative builders who design all the official Lego sets. Oh, cool. Other Lego master builders create, giant detailed sculptures out of Lego bricks for Legoland, parks, and special events all around the world. What do you know? That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:13:21 You ever been to Legoland? When I was a little wee boy. He is well. I can't tell you anything about it. I was not bait. I was just young. Did you notice this one? The word Lego is never once uttered throughout the entire film.
Starting point is 00:13:36 But you see it. You see it. You see the word Lego. But the actual word said and throughout, is not said throughout the film once. Why? that's weird yeah in order to add more realism to the film
Starting point is 00:13:50 the Lego bricks have scratches fading and even fingerprints to make the movie look like someone was manipulating real bricks and stop motion fashion smart the bricks also affected by their locations with the bricks in the old west realm being more dusty and faded from the sunlight oh that's smart
Starting point is 00:14:06 again that's why we talked about like the visuals were just on point and like you said probably a nightmare yeah that's very creative uh Vitruvius, Morgan Freeman's staff is actually a chewed-up lollipop, and in most cases, the stick of a lollipop will fit a mini-figure's hand. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Everything in the movie was destined to look as if it was built out of Lego pieces. This even includes effects like water, fire, laser bolts, explosions, and smoke. For instance, the lasers are actually transparent Lego rods, commonly known as lightsaber blades, while smaller puffs of smoke are Lego ice cream pieces. This is in contrast with the direct-to-video Lego movies and cartoon series in which parts of the sceneries are most of the effects were made to look realistic. That's another great detail of this movie is literally they didn't seem to skip out. Other than the little vortex that takes you to the real world,
Starting point is 00:15:03 everything looks like an actual Lego piece, which is harder to do, I imagine, for elements. The creators deliberately tried to make the movie feel, like stop motion animation and avoided making the computer-generated effects look too obvious. Thank God. This was done to make the movie look like it contained real Legos. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:23 It confused me. I was like, I can't tell if this is really. Obviously it's animated, but there's a lot of times where I'm like, is this real Legos? They did this scene? Yeah. Yeah. Benny, aka the 1980-something space guy, Charlie Day, a mini figure from Lego's classic space line has a broken helmet and a worn out
Starting point is 00:15:42 scuffed logo on his suit. Similar to how many real-life space minifigures look after being used. The helmet is even shown to be cracked at the same spot where the real-life Lego piece would usually break. Again, the detailed, paid attention to the details in this. It's the little things
Starting point is 00:15:58 that make major differences. Yeah. This is the first animated film for Morgan Freeman. I don't know what else he's done. Anthony Daniels, C-3PO, and Billy D. Williams, Lando Cowrizzian, reprised their roles from the original Star Wars trilogy. Daniels also provided C3P.O's voice in numerous Star Wars animated series
Starting point is 00:16:19 in previous Lego Star Wars movie productions. Surprisingly couldn't get Harrison Ford. I'm sure he would have been very... I know. I don't want to do this. Get away from me. Let's do a couple more. Upon first entering into cloud cuckoo land,
Starting point is 00:16:34 Batman is visibly annoyed by the place as two characters. A clown and a man in a lizard or dinosaur suit are greeting him. Oh, that's neat. These two figures are reminiscent of two of Batman's most formidable foes, The Joker and Killer Crook. Yeah. Did not notice. Did not know.
Starting point is 00:16:53 I didn't put that. I just thought he hated it because it was bright and bubbly. When in the Octant Tower, Wild style Elizabeth Banks goes off and tells them to wait for the signal. When she gives it, it's the super secret signal from the film Team America World Police. I've never seen that movie. No way. I did not know that. All right.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Last two. An early script had many of the characters names different. R2D2 and Indiana Jones being main characters. Emmett, Chris Pratt, still living with his elderly mother, who turns out to be the most powerful woman in the universe, had bad cop actually swear instead of saying, darn. Larry the barista having a larger role and Benny having a co-pilot that's an inanimate mop called Moppy. that that does not sound better yeah not at all oh metal beard was nick offerman oh really didn't
Starting point is 00:17:47 hear it at all i didn't hear it either uh after the first everything is awesome sequence the title card that says five hours later in lego is a photograph of real lego and one of the few non-cgai lego shots in the film the ending credits are also real lego pieces animated by stop motion oh hell yeah i'm glad we skipped over the credits. Yeah. Yeah. Impressive, though. Again, I'm loving the Lord Miller films I've reacted to on this channel, 21, 22 Jump Street, and then this film. They're really impressive filmmakers, and I love that, you know, they get to indulge into the creative side and on top of that with the, you know, with their writing as well.
Starting point is 00:18:27 There's just such an awareness. Yeah. High awareness. To detail. All right, guys. Well, leave your thoughts down below. Thank you so much for being here. And keep a lookout in case we cover the other ones.
Starting point is 00:18:37 See you guys. Thank you.
