Starting point is 00:01:51 Merrbirk. I can't speak to that. I'll take Mark Wahlberg's career. Okay. Yeah. I'll take Will Ferrell's early 2000s career. Yeah. I like Elf.
Starting point is 00:02:00 That's one of my favorite. Oh, my God. I know him. I know him, too. Let's get into the other guys. How a Ponzi scheme works. Let's take notes, Aaron. Pyramid schemes.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Let's make sure there's no extra scene. Yeah. You guys, give us a listen on Apple and Spotify. If you haven't already, you know the rundown. You know the deal. also very important go to reach a nation shop.com get teased like these as well as
Starting point is 00:02:37 so many other things like the shejacks cult of shejacks sweaters and so many different colors so snuggling and warm you're not going to want to forget it get to check check some chin let's get out here Shrara fry It's like an out to
Starting point is 00:02:56 Yeah That's funny Okay Aaron, that's a movie you need to watch Jaws It's on the screen You guys can't see it But we can
Starting point is 00:03:07 Jaws I've never seen it But I will one day Tells me every video I need to watch Jaws One day my man Andrew Aaron
Starting point is 00:03:16 What's you think of the movie It's funny And I like all the tropes That they play on just buddy cop action films and just action films in general like you know when they jump up the building uh reacting to explosions um and i i think the main thing that i i loved uh in the film um i mean not much of a story you know you got the whole ponzi scheme stuff and all that which is fine it didn't bother me or anything but i think the the heart of the film was the relationship and
Starting point is 00:03:45 the interaction between mark walberg and will feral i think the contrast between the two of them is so damn different and they were just so hilarious together i think that's what worked for me the most in this film was them uh they were just so funny and i loved watching every second of them together um like uh will feral is just so um there's just scenes where he's just playing it so straight and uh and mark walberg is just like shouting over at the top and it just like they clash right in the middle and it just works so well together it's so funny um but you Yeah, no, it's a fun, good time. I love that the film doesn't really take itself too seriously.
Starting point is 00:04:25 I mean, you can tell right away in the first five minutes with the rock and Samuel Jackson. It sets the tone right away in that first scene, lets you know what you're in for. And I think it's paced very well. I had a great time. It was a lot of fun. Yeah, yeah, I agree. Guys, listen, we eat the real rejects. I like to keep it real with you guys here.
Starting point is 00:04:46 It's in our name, the real rejects. It's been a very long day from me. I'm running on like four hours of sleep right now. I'm coming straight off of work before filming here. Some are a little tired. But that being said, I had a great time watching this movie. In spite in the face of me being tired, I laughed a lot with my friend here. And yeah, I think part of that, or obviously a large majority of that, the entirety of that,
Starting point is 00:05:15 it has to do with these two right here. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg They were fantastic in the movie They have great chemistry And I really like the tropes of it being this Comedy about these two cops And it's like it plays with the tropes Of what it is to be a buddy cop movie
Starting point is 00:05:33 And I feel like it was It was very meta And it did it flawlessly And I feel like if you've seen a lot of these movies You'll gain a lot from that You know I've seen a decent amount of them Both in my private life and here on the channel And I definitely played into my enjoyment of the movie.
Starting point is 00:05:50 I think some of the best bits that were recurring. I feel like, yeah, if you do like three or more times, it's the funnier it gets as it goes on. And I just really, really liked it. Yeah. Also, too, I think it shouldn't go unsaid that there were some really good. I mean, there wasn't a ton of it because I think more of the focus of the film is on the comedy,
Starting point is 00:06:14 which I thought was hysterical. but when we did get some action sequences, I thought they were actually really well. You had some really fun and really heart-wrenching, or not heart-wrenching, but just like really well-done action sequences. I was like, holy shit, these are great. You got cars smashing into each other, and like they were really well choreographed.
Starting point is 00:06:36 And it was like, again, because we're playing into the action adventure genre and the buddy cop stuff, I was like, okay, at least we're getting that part of the trope. in the genre, like, done correctly. So I'm glad that they, for all the funny bits, like, they actually did get that right. And then you had the thing going with Mark Wahlberg at the end when they're in that room where he's jumping, like going backwards and shooting. But, like, I love stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:07:00 So I thought the, all the action sequences, the choreography, really done well. And again, I know the film wasn't focused on that. Again, more focused on making us as an audience laugh, which, again, is very subjective as are all films. in general, but especially comedy. Comedy is extremely subjective, but I think this holds up pretty well. And from 2010, I believe, was what this said, to 2024 for 14 years. No, it still works. Yeah, yeah, it didn't feel like too dated or anything.
Starting point is 00:07:32 So, but again, I really loved all the action sequences. And I just, too, I don't think I've laughed much harder than what, than I did with the Rock and Samuel Jackson when they jumped off the building. That was so funny. Where's the Bush? Yeah, the parody or the parody slash homage to the hardcore over the top cops, especially when they destroyed the city over like, well, it was a quarter ounce of marijuana. And that was just so good.
Starting point is 00:08:02 And yeah, I think this movie really succeeds on all those levels. And I'm sad they never made a sequel to this because I don't think they did. I think it may be a little too late, 14 years too late. But who knows? They make sequels out for a long period of time. no they always do so we'll we'll see we'll see maybe one day at all maybe one day we'll have any trivia for this movie interesting little tidbits also the running gig not gif gag of um well feral having like a woman being attracted
Starting point is 00:08:35 to him also the fact that he's a pimp named gaita he's getting take no shit yeah and also that's my favorite part yeah i completely agree with you and also two before we get the trivia i do want to say. I don't know if they're still on good terms with each other, but I do love, we talk about the chemistry between Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, which was fantastic in this film. Maybe on bad terms? No, no, no, I'm not talking about them. I'm sorry. I'm talking about the relationship between Adam McKay, the director, and Will Ferrell. I still thought, I think they had a little bit of falling out because of the show, the Laker show. I think it was called Showtime. um i believe uh so i believe will feral was supposed to be dr jerry bus and he ended up casting john c riley
Starting point is 00:09:22 and again i love will feral but in my opinion adam mackay made the right choice john c riley's phenomenal he looks just like dr bus acts just like dr bus i think that was the right call but i think where will where will feral got upset is because they're good friends and i don't remember the story but when he went with john c riley will feral took it so personally and got really pissed off so believe like they were not on good terms after that and that was just like a couple years ago. So I don't know, I don't know where the relationship is now. But again, I think their chemistry from like director to actor like they're so good together and from Anchorman. I don't remember Talladega Nights because I saw it once in theaters a long time ago. So it's, I don't really remember it.
Starting point is 00:10:03 But Anchorman and this and one of my all time favorite comedy, stepbrothers, which again, Adam McKay directed all of those. They're so good together. They're one of my favorite duo is when it comes to comedy from director to star so i thought they again just did a great job in this film i'm sorry that they had a falling out i don't know what the relationship status is in terms of friends but i just wanted to point that out uh that they did great again together uh from working with each other so um anyways yeah let's get into some trivia the idea of team of team of will feral and mark walberg has been gestating since the 79th annual Academy Awards, which was 2007,
Starting point is 00:10:47 where Will had been viciously insulting other actors as part of a bit, but became extremely polite to Mark Wahlberg. Alan's rant about lions and tuna was completely improvised by Will Farrell. Yes, I kept saying, like, there's got to be so many things. You're going to be shocked by this. I wish you would have called this while during a reaction. I'm really disappointed you didn't. The narrator is a...
Starting point is 00:11:13 is an uncredited ice tea stupid good call that was a good call by you the fourth of five collaborations between Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay the others being Anchorman
Starting point is 00:11:26 Legend of Ron Burgundy Talladega Nights Stepbrothers Anchorman 2 and this film those are their five films they work together on with the exception of Leo Holder and obviously
Starting point is 00:11:37 Detective Hoyts all the people listed as Traffic Enforcer of the month held positions in the movie's graphics or location departments. They usually do that kind of stuff when they put names and stuff. It's usually people that are working in the film.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Just before Terry, Mark Wahlberg, and Alan Will Ferrell are forced to turn over their evidence to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the SEC. In New York City, there is a cutscene of a skyline. Since everything takes place in New York City, one assumes that it's the New York City skyline. However, if you look closely,
Starting point is 00:12:07 there is the Prudential Tower located in Boston, Massachusetts, It's where Mark Walbert grew up and also our very own coigandro and Roxy Stryer grew up there as well. That's right. The role of Detective Highsmith was originally written with Michael Chickless in mind.
Starting point is 00:12:23 I believe he played The Thing in the Fantastic Board and the Fantastic Four of the Rise of Silver Server. And he was also in Gotham. However, when offered the part... However, when offered the part, he turned it down to avoid typecasting after the series finale
Starting point is 00:12:37 of his acclaimed police drama, The Shield. Gene Motch, Michael Keaton, is named for the real-life baseball manager of the same name who piloted the California Angels to Division Championships in 1982 and 1986. Will Ferrell is an avid Angels fan. That's sex for Will Ferrell. Go Dodgers. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg also made a cameo appearance on WWE Raw to promote the film.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Oh, well, I didn't know that. Adam McKay played the character, Dirty Mike. in the movie poster Mark Wahlberg and Will Farrell have the same badge number of 107-1-2. I noticed that. Josh Church, the co-producer, appears as the hot dog guy.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Oh, is that the guy who was like, yeah, you get the free food, but no drinks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, cool. That's so funny. I like that bit as well. At around the 59-minute mark, Terry and Allen are caught in the blast of a bomb
Starting point is 00:13:37 and are thrown back as they lie writhing in pain on the ground. Allen screens. Oh, they walk away movies without flinching when it explodes behind them. There's no way. I call bullshit on that. Mark Wahlberg starred in the movie shooter where at the end of the movie, Mark's character walks away without flinching as a house explodes behind him.
Starting point is 00:13:55 I never saw the shooter. Joseph Summer, the district attorney sitting in Captain Mouch's office, also played the district attorney in Dirty Harry. As of 2021, this film was the last film appearance of Summer. He's the one I said played the president in X, X-Men 3 the last, or X-Men the last time. Okay. In the 1990s movie, a night at the Roxbury, Eva Mendez makes an appearance as a bridesmaid that Will Ferrell couldn't stop staring at. I called that one earlier.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Yeah, because he looks at her. She's the bridesmaid and Will Ferrell's gang. Mary, he goes, what's up from out of town? He was hitting on her. So I think it's funny that he's hitting on her in that movie. And then they're married in this movie. He's like repulsed by her. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yeah, I'm just going to look at it in some universe that they ended up getting together from that movie. And then we ended up with this. I like that. I like that. You like that. Cool. Detective Gamble is a fan of the Little River Band. The Little River Band recorded a song called The Other Guy in 1982.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Cool. All right. I'll do a couple more. All right. Brooke Shields sitting next to Will Ferrell at the basketball game. She's the one who grabs him and says, call me when he leaves. Shields is married to Chris Henshi. who co-wrote the film.
Starting point is 00:15:10 That's right, because I just did watch her episode in Entourage, and in the show, they said that she's married to a writer. So I didn't realize he wrote this film, though.
Starting point is 00:15:20 First Adam McKay film not produced by Judd Apatow. Wow. I probably mispronounced it. I know. This is Michael Keaton and Samuel O'Jackson's second film together
Starting point is 00:15:30 since Jackie Brown. I have not seen it as I've not seen most. Quentin Tarantino films at all. I have also not seen Jackie. brown that'd be fun one to watch yes it would um i don't really see many more uh there's only one spoiler and it got such little amount of like so i think we are going to probably end it right there okay um you have any final thoughts no again um i knew that producer looked familiar
Starting point is 00:16:00 that's so funny uh so it looks like the the producer of this movie patrick crowley is his name. Let me say producer 2010. Yeah, so the producer of this movie he was a producer on Robocop 3 and RoboCop 2. I knew that producer looked familiar. No, just like I said,
Starting point is 00:16:20 I really enjoyed the chemistry between Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. They were great together. I love the action sequences, fun. The film didn't hinge on a story or like, I mean, wasn't supposed to so I didn't care about that. It's about the bits. Yeah, exactly. I mean,
Starting point is 00:16:36 like you said, it's just a bunch of scenes stringed together, which is what it was just trying to do. It wasn't trying to, you know, be anything else. But I had a fun time. It was great. I loved the tropes on all the action films. Had a great time. It was fun.
Starting point is 00:16:47 I had a fun time, too. Thank you guys so much for watching. I'm going to go get some sleep and some food. You guys have a great rest of your day, and we'll see you in the next one.
