All right, let's watch the show. Why are you showing me this? Three, two, one. a show so good it makes us stop doing horrible accents every time what are you talking about and we're back uh this show is pretty exceptional that was episode of the penguin if you're just joining us on spotify or iTunes or what have you uh Greg I think this episode will be the first one that people will be like eh it's still slow but I think this is the first one that I was like oh we're actually getting to take a breath
Starting point is 00:01:58 and deepen the relationships I think each episode has served a very different purpose this one I've never felt more connected to each person this feels like that like calm in the hurricane when things are about to go crazy which I liked what exactly makes this one different I'm confused I just feel like this one
Starting point is 00:02:16 was about the individuals like getting to deepen their relationships versus like it wasn't like last episode was crazy action psych ward and then the first two were like building an empire and then the third one was like the vick story like this one was all three sharing i think equal time and all the relationships got enriched instead of there being a sky of focus yeah yeah that's true that's true i mean this was like the midpoint for
Starting point is 00:02:39 every i mean for midpoint of the season it's also the midpoint for all these characters journeys you have uh sophia who is now at this pinnacle point what's the new family name gigante gigante gigante and the giganteses I'm not sorry. He's not. This is all the journey to mastering the penguin accent. It's episode five. It's gotten worse.
Starting point is 00:03:05 You might want to. No, it hasn't. It's a little better. When we get Colin here, episode nine. I can't wait. We got to interview calling for us. Just for that. How do you do the voice, Colin?
Starting point is 00:03:18 Teach us how in the world we do this voice. In the world, the accent, Colin. Vic. Cool and Colin. Whatever. Greg. And then, so. Sophia Falcone with the, what's it called, the lasagna?
Starting point is 00:03:30 Yeah, a little pasta, Ramano's. What, what's the, what's her family call? I didn't even know a word you were looking for. She was the Falcons, now she's Gigante. Gigante. The Maronis are the ones. And then. Not a pasta.
Starting point is 00:03:48 It's not even a pasta. And then after that, then, okay, and then the alliance, of course, with the Moronies wiping out. the more it's kind of crazy and then for them to realize they have a common enemy it's i love the flipperoo of that yeah how penguin was orchestrating this war and then now they realize actually we have a common enemy here instead of going at each other they have gone whoop and like killing the falcons which would have normally been weakness is now one unified front against you yeah i think sophia falcones very badass what i'm kind of um there's if there's one thing i'm a little
Starting point is 00:04:26 nervous about when it comes to what they're doing with Sophia just because we're at the midpoint of the show and watching this portrayal her uh assent into this kit by the way we were looking at a screenshot of the next episode of it's beautiful it's staggering I'm suddenly like I don't know what's to do except watch this course a shot um the yeah it looks so beautiful oh my god the um what a what a plug it's a for you're like tune in next week for what this shot is I think the shot actually sets up the Batman 2. I'm actually not kidding, though. I started literally like going up.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Like, whoa, look at this. There's like a time joke you blog next week. I think this shot sets up the Batman 2 in 2026. Yeah, it looks like there's a time jump for maybe. I don't know, actually. Like literally all this is is a shot of the city, guys. It's the first frame of episode 6. It's the first like 0.1 second of the show.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Not even kidding how impactful this image is. No, so that's an opening shot right there. Damn. But anyway. Episode five. Episode five. Gigantes. And, God, what we're talking about?
Starting point is 00:05:31 Gang war maronis. I think what we've got into and my talking is Finn, the word gigante. Which is a pasta. Which is a pasta. I don't think I've been any progress. Not a single point. And you had to re-explain my point, which apparently was needed. A single point has not been made.
Starting point is 00:05:48 I have not gone any further. You were saying something about her and your concern. Yes. Yes, the concern is that I, like, where she's at in this portrayal, makes perfect sense i'm i'm concerned that the next what three episodes might think it's nine episodes or is it something like that right whatever the next few are is that it'll be played like this singular note now because she's crime boss the show hasn't given any indication it's more of like a concern of you know television in general of what they tend to do and watching where
Starting point is 00:06:20 her character's at now i'm a little bit concerned that we might lose a little bit of the uh three to dimensional aspects of the performance specifically of weaving in and out of the exploration because she's been my favorite character but on the flip side penguin we got to see that like i love these kind of performances where there's just a very like i think of like the caprio and departed where you're just like so on edge and you're just trying to have a you have all this anxiety because you can't control a situation that you're really trying to take control of and watching everything kind of crumble around you and the loss of power while trying to regain power and mixed with like this loneliness, this, uh, the pathos of sadness and illustrating this connection between the girl who he's like in love with and then abandoning him and then the rejection of his mom. And then there's like something also like kind of hauntingly symbolic about literally setting a blaze that the son and, uh, and the mom. Yeah. I don't know. I think like a lot of this was a fantastic, psychological shadowing
Starting point is 00:07:28 of a penguin and so much of the way the actual episode played out and I love how while the other characters on the rise is like he's just descending he's homeless in the sewers it is the biggest
Starting point is 00:07:44 fall we've seen him take and it's from the highest high I love that because the rest of the last few episodes he was barely in four but the one through three he's been pretty much on a rise this whole time and now it's I really feel that sense that they structured this season, like essentially if you had a movie script where it would be the rise, midpoint, then fall.
Starting point is 00:08:02 That's what I was trying to say in the opening the eye of the hurricane is that that calm in the middle of there was the A plot, or not a plot, but there was the first act that really set up a lot of things. Then we had the episode that was a flashback bottle episode that kind of like explained backstory. And then this episode feels like the calm before the final crazy three or four, whatever we have. Like this feels like the last episode that's going to be like, okay, you love all these
Starting point is 00:08:25 characters now things about to get real ladies and gentlemen i'm excited to shout out today's sponsor because it is an app that i have been using since before we partnered with them which just makes my job easy and i just get to share with you something i really do love and that is the acorns app because money's involved i researched them extensively to make sure like they've got to be legit right you can find so many positive reviews on them there's one person here they themselves give me a very positive testimony about how it helped get them out of a bind once that they were in and i say that you know i don't want to actually show my but i have the app just as evidence because one of my favorite things about it is how easy they make it for investing that's something that i think is
Starting point is 00:09:05 really important it's really hard to get ahead in life for something like me who doesn't have a 401k who really does need to invest money so that way i don't have to just work for money but have money grow for me have money work for me it's an absolutely amazing start best part is you don't need a lot of money to do it you can literally start with your spare change they make it easy to automatically start start saving and investing for you, your future, your retirement, your kids, whatever it may be that you want to invest money for. Like I say, you don't need a lot of money. You don't even really need expertise, which is the best part. Acorns recommends an expert built portfolio that fits you and your money goals. Then automatically invest the money for you. So it takes a lot
Starting point is 00:09:42 of this stressful decision-making fatigue out of the process. I just love how I can let it do its thing and then I can just check it with my half like a month later, a couple months later, see how they're awesome dollar round up or whatever my money investments I've gone into literally it's just awesome to see it grow plus now you can open an acorns later IRA and get up to a 3% match on new contributions so it's extra money for your retirement cannot stress it enough it's made investing especially as a jumping off point super easy super stress free super straightforward it's all about small steps today making a big impact on your future because from acorns muddy oaks do grow grow your roke so you can head at acorns dot com slash rejects or download download the Acorns app and start saving and investing for your future. Starting point is 00:10:32 Investing involves risk. Acornsvisor LLC and SEC registered investment advisor. View important disclosures at acorns.com slash rejects. I highly recommend this app, so please go ahead, download it. Thank you again. Yes. Like, I feel like this is pure tension that's about to explode. Yeah, and I think there's a lot, what's, there's aspects of this that, let's just check
Starting point is 00:10:50 the time. Okay, yeah, we got a little bit of time. There's aspects of this that totally remind me of attempts that Joker franchise. Like I'm making Joker jokes. This is the much superior version of adapting something in a serious way. Yeah, especially for this like Arkham Asylum patient who is like mistreated by society and the way how these people have been defined by like these mental struggles that Gotham has inflicted upon them.
Starting point is 00:11:15 And how like Sophia has become this, the personification of. the um the the interpretation that people have had of her yeah you know and i love the flipper row too of like you know you're watching penguin having a speech with these people who are not made men and trying to like empower them and rally with him and then simultaneously it's exactly what sophia's yeah and i love the kiss in the head of like you're not made men except this guy kissing the head kills him yeah and then him being like big would be like you're not made men let's go get you made like i love that they're both rallying their troops, but the way that Penguin does it is by coercion of, you know, verbal. And she does it by money, by murder, by also verbal.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Like, they both have their strengths. Yeah. And we got to see them laid out. You know what I really love that they do with Sophia? They don't rely on her. Because Christine Miliotti, is that here's her name? I think so. She's a million.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Yeah, she's a very attractive, like, human being. But they don't do anything with her that, she's, you know, They haven't yet. That is about using her sexuality as a way to control. She just carries herself confidently. It doesn't seem like they're going like guys are falling over her because of her. And she is hot. That's not the plot.
Starting point is 00:12:33 But it's not about her like physically seducing people in any way. Yeah. Other than the therapist who's like weird. But he's just broken. She doesn't have to seduce him. She looks at him. He's like, I will do anything. But yeah, but I think like most shows, especially in this power position,
Starting point is 00:12:48 what a thousand percent most. most shows or movies would take the approach of like using you know physical seduction and I think the coat scene in this was about her mother and I think a lot of lesser shows would have sexualized the coat scene I think it would have been like putting it on and shoulders and they showed her shoulders they showed how like attractive she is but it wasn't about that it was about her mother and I think that's a really fine line to walk with a very sexy coat absolutely man do I hope there's deleted scenes they release show those come on man springs on loop let's do it I hope it was just a decision you creatively made after you shot it because I want them sames, baby. I think a woman directed that this episode. No, they were not going to get shit. Because women don't like women. Women only like men. Men
Starting point is 00:13:31 who are subservient at the end of tables. I hate the acolyte. Yeah. Admitted the song in the review, you get our sarcasm. Maybe. Oh, what in the wild is the psychism? I, man, it's not a... I think when I'm like by myself, I think I sound great. But then you hear it. But then I get in front of people
Starting point is 00:13:49 I'm not fully doing it the way of how I feel like I was doing great. It would be a fun costume. We talked about it episode one, like the white suit and just walk around, being Vic, yelling at Vic. Yeah, if you can get away with it in real life. Being Oz. What do you just, who are you, you, Mars, Oz Cobb? What? You ride me?
Starting point is 00:14:10 Be the penguin all night. Don't worry about it. Hot dog, dog. Dog. Has he said, dog. Rad tat. I don't know. I don't know. I think we've covered. It's a good episode.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Yeah, it's not my favorite of the bunch, but there's a lot of great elements, I think, to it, for sure. It's still a really strong episode, and I feel like, like, again, you know, this sounds like the weirdest. It's not really a criticism or a nitpick. I guess this is, it's just more of a level of impact. I'm like, yeah, this is where a show like this would go. That's what I was trying to say in the beginning. I'm like, this is where we are. In terms of like a plot point. This is the time to do this.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Yeah, where, you know. know like these these plot points would happen and it's whereas like every other episode has had something like wow that's a surprise this is a surprise this is like we need to establish all going this is a and nothing here while still impactful wasn't necessarily gave that like ooh like didn't suspect this was just good storytelling yeah yeah like and that's why i don't know how to say whether it's out it sounded like i'm just because i'm not i'm just like this is the least like it's like you expect the show like this to go to this place and they did a good job
Starting point is 00:15:23 on doing that. I agree. I feel like episode two had to escalate in episode one. Episode one's a bold pilot. Three had to be big to establish Victor. Four had to be big to establish Sophia. There was nothing in this episode that had to be that. Yeah. And so this was an episode of good storytelling. But that's why I'm wondering how it's going to be received after one,
Starting point is 00:15:39 two, three, four. Like it's just by its nature. I'm really excited to enrich instead of just trying to escalate. Well, this is one of my favorite, out of all the episodes is still one of my favorites of Colin feral as penguin just because of the amount of because he's usually playing the deplicitous side
Starting point is 00:15:54 he's usually playing that what's duality here what truth what are you saying that's true and then here he was truthful the entire episode other than his opening conversation with the Moronies he was truthful the entire episode in a very dark way and in a
Starting point is 00:16:11 very sad way like I actually love that that moment with his mom and I like how they allow layers for peeling back backstory with I really like the moment with his girl and him just where he is like, yeah, this is obvious. Like, why didn't I see this? You were using me.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Everyone uses me. Everyone doesn't, nobody believes in me. I mean, that's why I don't trust anyone here. Yeah, that's the trick. Because I pay everyone here. Yeah, and you're like, I'm going to use you back. And I'm a real friend. I don't even know you.
Starting point is 00:16:36 I don't know you. Why are you showing me this 1099? We'll see you next week. We'll see you next week. Thank you for being here. I'll leave a comment below. Why am I paying you? Say, I get to the Yankton, it involves, buddy.
Starting point is 00:16:59 That's going to do for episode five. And Penguin has a TikTok. Let us tell. Yeah, that's the big, that's what we got on this episode. Episode three, Vic, episode four, Sophia, episode five. The Moroni's skin got a TikTok. Literally, like, held on it. He literally owns a TikTok.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Yeah, like, yeah, like, piglets like, look at my TikTok. It's an actual TikTok. lad oh seven seven five oh god it's so funny penguin talk 20 i'm blinded now all right leave a comment below let us know what you think penguin's tic-tok name is like this video share it with your fellow tick tockers and penguin heads we'll see you next week for more hit that subscribe we'll tune in bye all
