Roxy Striar & Andrew Gordon sit down for their first-time reaction to The Silence of the Lambs, one of the most iconic psychological thrillers in cinema history. Directed by Jonathan Demme (Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married) and based on the novel by Thomas Harris, the film follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster – Taxi Driver, Panic Room, Contact) as she seeks the help of the brilliant yet terrifying Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins – The Father, The Two Popes, Westworld) to catch the elusive serial killer Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine – Monk, The Fast and the Furious). This reaction dives deep into unforgettable moments like the chilling “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti” scene, Hannibal’s eerie first meeting with Clarice Starling, “Well, hello Clarice” (a line forever etched in pop culture), Clarice’s intense interview sessions with Hannibal Lecter, Buffalo Bill’s disturbing transformation scenes including “It puts the lotion on its skin” and “Put the lotion in the basket!” plus the terrifying night vision climax that remains one of the most suspenseful endings in cinema history. The film also stars Scott Glenn (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Leftovers) as Jack Crawford, and Brooke Smith (Grey’s Anatomy, Interstellar) as Catherine Martin. The Silence of the Lambs stands as a cornerstone in the Hannibal Lecter franchise, which includes Manhunter, Hannibal, Red Dragon, Hannibal Rising, and the acclaimed TV series Hannibal starring Mads Mikkelsen. This reaction comes as part of our growing exploration of legendary films and continues our coverage of the most influential thrillers. This episode is brought to you by Adidas. When the frustration grows and the doubts start to creep in, we all need someone who has our back.
To tell us, we'll be okay, to remind us of our ability, to believe, because their belief in us transfers to self-belief and reminds us.
us of all that we're capable of.
We all need someone to make us believe.
Hashtag, you got this.
There is the froe habitual, and there is the
frow of the mountains blue.
The froy
at its summit.

Thank you to Huell for sponsoring this video.
More on them in just a bit.
way too long so we should just get rubbed off on you my long intros only the good things have
rubbed off on me roxy but we were going to get right into this with so sounds of the lambs commence
in three two and a one that was intense anyways guys that was rick smith was katherine i want to look up
who that is oh yeah million things yeah i know that always
drives both of us crazy and we're like i know i've seen this person anyways guys that was silence of
the sorry the silence of the lambs and if you are if you were able to watch that on youtube
it's because of those fine folks over at praper who were editing down these highlights we appreciate
all their hard work and if you are listening to us on apple or spotify you don't mind
giving us five-star ratings we would appreciate it so much roxy what are we going to do here
we're going to see how we're feeling or are we going to get into the patreon question you know
what we're really short on time so let's just get into the patreon questions then we'll okay while you're
pulling them up yes you pull them up and i'm just going to tell you that was like the greatest
i've been watching such great movies here recently and oh my god oh my god that was so good
sorry i have to go away from that so we can get to the questions is that okay i'm just curious
you think nothing's going to happen well we'll let it go i don't know what do you think yeah i'm
sorry go ahead i'm staying on the shot but i just don't know like
The footage is still rolling.
Yeah, we'll leave until it fades.
So it was the greatest movie.
I thought that was the greatest.
I thought that was unbelievable.
I understand why this isn't a lot of people's top five horror movies.
The very few shots that I had seen before, just in compilations, they are so much more powerful in this.
Anthony Hopkins gives.
To me, my favorite role of all time is Charlize Theron and Monster as Eileen.
So this is like kind of a version of that.
You know, I think it's really difficult to take on the role of.
a killer and to make it believable and to make it intense and and charismatic and charming and
engaging and horrifying and all of the things and he did uh you you have to think this is a one of
the best performances of all time by him um and then jody across from him was just so so
wonderful um yeah that movie was just like perfect flawless no notes i can't believe that this is a
franchise. I'm so curious where we go from here. I'm with you. It's definitely one of my favorite
reactions by far. And that was a mesmerizing performance from Anthony Hopkins. And I can totally,
I'm on the hype with this film and understand the hype as well. And I understand too why this
film swept the Academy Awards when it comes to those five categories. Yeah, let me just confirm
that. Yeah, yeah. You go ahead. And also see where the hell she comes. For sure. And I think you make a
great point when it comes to Jodie Foster. I mean,
She was standing tit for tat when it comes to with Anthony Hopkins because, again, very intense, incredible, charismatic and charming performance, especially when you have to get into the psyche of a, it's not just getting into the psyche of a murder.
It's like he's playing this psychiatrist type of care, doctor type of character too, who just analyzes and brings everyone, breaks everyone down to reality.
and it's such a fascinating character
and the way he's able to not blink
I don't think he blinked even one time
the entire film.
Even when he was wearing the sunglasses,
it's literally such a captivating performance.
It's not even, you know,
it's not even recency and bias
because I know we talk about that a lot
right after we react to something.
That was just, because I've seen Anthony Hopkins
in a lot of stuff and I've always like, you know,
giving him praise, but this was just something.
Something different.
Something did,
man.
Something different.
What was the second thing
he won an Oscar
for a couple years ago?
I'm not sure.
I'll look it up for a second.
The girl that I,
Brooke Smith,
she was in Grey's Anatomy
for 25 episodes.
She was in four episodes
of weeds.
American Horror Story.
She has 100 credits.
13 episodes of Ray Donovan.
Nashville,
botch,
Supergirl,
The Good Doctor,
Chicago Med,
good fight,
bombshell the movie
that you probably saw.
Which one?
Bombshell?
Never seen it.
Really?
You know what I'm talking about?
That way I've never even heard of it.
The Megan Kelly movie?
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
Now I know.
With Charlie Soron, Nicole Kidman, Marco Robbie, John Lithgow.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That movie was amazing.
Okay.
Appian Most Wanted Law and Order.
The hunting party should be in everything.
I'm so sorry.
I just want to like, we're still on that shot.
Yeah, we're still on this one shot.
Okay, it's fading.
I've never seen it stay on that one shot like that for that long.
I'm sure there's other examples, but wow.
That is incredible.
That is crazy.
That they did in like,
walked all off into the distance and let our mind kind of imagine and like right away you get sucked
in from the score from how we're sure the direction from jonathan demi i mean the the performances in
this film the writing is so damn the dialogue it's so good i'm sure too like repeat viewings roxy
there's going to be so much that you pick up on because there's so much information that is
relayed to you with the exposition but yeah and again when i was talking also as well about
Jody Foster's performance.
She is so damn
engaging. I love how I'm able
to just watch her visually narrate
and no interpret right away what
she is thinking. That is so
freaking hard to do as an actor.
In her eyes. Yeah. Right. Yeah. So
they both won. It won.
For screenplay, it was best
writing screenplay based on material previously
produced or published. So
is this a book?
Probably. Probably.
Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn.
damn it deserved everything i mean again i don't know with the other films that were nominated for
1991 and all that but i mean this is pretty hard to yeah i can't imagine a movie being better than this
like it's just that's truly phenomenal and anthony hopkins performances
performances always are great but especially in this um okay the he won for the father
that was the name of the movie that he won in 2021 remember people were really upset because
somebody had passed away that year
and he won and they didn't
and people were bummed about it
and he gave a speech he wasn't there actually
he had to like film in a speech you don't remember that
for the Oscars? No. I do not
oh okay I'll look it up
why did you go silent
oh no because I was a lamb being stunned
I was just getting our Patreon questions ready
but
yeah I will have to look that up
later though but whenever you're ready we can get to the after you look that it was
chadwick bozeman that for mama raney's black bottom and people were upset that he didn't win
i never saw that movie this is also the yeah anyway oh chadwick i'm ready whenever you are all right
so uh as we always do we get to the patreon questions here and we are going to start off with
keb that's questions you can submit if you are a patron that's how we get to these so if you
want to be a super sexy patron then make sure you sign up today so you can ask us things yes
we appreciate you royal patrons thank you so much royal rejects kev b asks thank you for the question
by the way kev if you could sit down with dr lector for five minutes knowing you'd be completely safe
what's the one question you'd want to ask him and do you think his answer would end up revealing
more about you than about him oh i don't think there's a world in which you would know you'd be
completely safe so i would never do that i was going to say after why
Watching this entire film, he just brings you down.
I mean, he really sizes you up.
So it's like there is no safe with him, whether you're behind bars or whether he's behind bars or not.
So I'm going to go with Roxy on that.
I don't know if there is a question.
I would want to ask him.
I'm curious.
So the first question he asked, Clarice, was what was the most traumatic thing to happen to you as a child or the saddest day of your life as a child?
Whatever she answered with her, whatever question he asked her is what I would ask him because I'm curious why he asked it.
Yeah, I would definitely.
would like to know more about his backstory.
I have a feeling we'll get there.
Because is he in the next two?
Yeah, he's the next two.
Is she in the next two?
Do you want me to answer?
You're asking so I will answer.
I don't think she is.
I don't believe so.
That's a bummer.
Reject Nation.
I've been following a specific macro plan all year.
Well, at the end of January.
At the end of January, I weighed 218 pounds.
Here's a photo.
And as of this week, I'm down to one.
73 and here's a good lighting photo it's coming in i'm so close i got to do a photo shoot anyway
part of any of my goals means being extra intentional about what i put into my body and one of
those things that's helped me stay on track is this little bad boy right here this is huell's
black edition ready to drink cheers it's a full meal and a bottle i just love chocolate this is such a
good chocolate drink. It's packed with 35 grams of protein, 27 essential vitamins or minerals,
slow release carbs. And very important for me, it's low in sugar. Diabetes and heart disease
runs in my family, so I have to be extra careful when it comes to stuff like that. And this
drink keeps me fueled, not just full. And yeah, nice schedule is kind of all over the place. I'm
working, filming, working out. So I need something that's quick, convenient, reliable, that won't
sabotage my progress. And the taste, legit, it is smooth. I just want to keep drinking it and not talk to you
right now. It doesn't have that chalky thing that a lot of those shakes have. You know what I'm talking about. And they've got a variety of different flavors. Chocolate is still my favorite one. And it's great that Hewle shipped around 500 million meals around the world. So if you're trying to stay dialed in like myself or just save time while eating, a great way to support your body and a great way to support the channel too. your body right even when life's
busy you will not regret it
thank you Hewell for being a part of my fitness
journey yeah okay
so thank you Kev B for the question
though appreciate it
you want to read it you said yeah
Mark said did you guys expect this to be a
Hannibal prequel was this was a movie
I put off a lot and
when I watched it I was left in awe
did you guys expect this to be a Hannibal
prequel um we've never seen
Hannibal so no yeah I've never seen
anything that's Hannibal related so is this a Hannibal prequel I don't know yeah I don't
know anything about the franchise not only did I not expect anything but I still don't know the
answer to that yeah yeah yeah again I yeah this maybe Hannibal is maybe this is a sequel to it
maybe Hannibal actually takes place earlier than this and we see him go on his killing spree
well we just that's why we don't Jody Foster's on it right well we just mentioned we'd love
to know more about Hannibal and his backstory although I don't know if I'm intrigued to see him
to his cannibal thing.
But again, his character and everything about him is very fascinating.
So that I'm definitely intrigued upon.
So in regards to your question, Mark, no.
Yeah.
Thank you for the question, though.
Thanks, Mark.
Appreciate it.
KT.
asks, and thank you, KT, for being a Patreon member and your question.
Literally my favorite movie of all time.
Makes sense.
How many pop culture references did y'all get while watching for the first time that you didn't know where from this movie?
I said one of them during it.
So Buffalo Bill, when he was saying it,
puts the lotion on or something like that from American Wedding.
I think it's the unrated version only, not the rated R version.
But Stiffler says to, I forgot the character's name.
He says, what the F, Buffalo Bill?
He goes, it puts the dress in the drawer and does what it's told.
I never understood that reference.
I was like, what, why is he talking to him like then, calling him Buffalo Bill?
Now watching him and hearing that line is like, oh, my God, I finally understand that reference.
So there's one.
It's not really how I watch movies.
So that's not really what I'm on the lookout for,
but it definitely is up your alley.
Yeah.
Yeah, but that one, because I got to see the swastika thing.
Okay, yeah, yeah, go look that up.
But continue on because that one since 2000,
because I saw American Wedding in 2003,
and until this day from the moment I saw American Wedding,
that I know you guys are all probably saying,
why didn't you just look on Google?
I probably should have.
That has been going off in my head for so long.
What the heck is he talking about?
he didn't realize it was even a reference.
So it's fun coming up with those reveals
because there was one also an Ace Ventura
Pet Detective where he was like, this house
is clear now and that was from Poltergeist
when I did my reaction. I was like, oh, that's what that's from.
It's fun getting those reveals rather than getting it
from Google and like discovering it in real time.
Yeah. Yeah, there was
swastikas everywhere.
I was so into the moment that I didn't
even see what was in front of me.
It was on a blanket. There was like a couple
printed swastasasas and I was like, huh.
You know what's funny?
at the beginning of the movie you're like
I can't see the FBI thing
I could but you could
but I couldn't see the swastikas that are right
That was huge in a symbol
I have a hard time reading words as you can see
But my point being is it's like
I couldn't see the big horrible horrific
symbols right in front of my face
But I could see the little FBI thing
Yeah well you know
That's why we watch these together
Yeah exactly
Thank you for the question
Padrig
Elher
Thank you sorry for mispronounce your name
Let me know for next time
My mom introduced me to Sazza of the Lambs.
It was one of her all-time favorite films
and watching it with her totally changed how I saw movies.
It pulled me in and made me fall in love with film as an art form.
What's a movie your parent introduced you to that still holds a special place in your heart?
Great question.
That's a great one.
So many.
So many.
Gone with the Wind.
West Side Story.
Lost Horizons.
The birds.
Groundhog Day.
the picture groundhog day jaws i could name a bunch of bill murray movies that my dad's yeah that my dad is
just i don't know about well art form definitely jaws but just movies that like we've watched together
that i i can rewatch over and over with him because we have such a love to those ones it's that
holds a special place in your yeah yeah i would say like those two holds a special play it's like
it fills all those boxes but i would say like just off the top of my head jaws and groundhog day
we've both watched those movies together so many times
and I'll never forget the first time he introduced me to Jaws.
Like, I just, I was,
I was, my dad introducing me to Jaws at 6 or 7th and stuff.
Oh, I think that's okay.
Yeah, yeah, I know.
It's a PG movie.
But the point is when he introduced me and I was like, oh, my God, this is what cinema is.
John is PG-G, that's wild.
It's PG-13 had been created.
It was 1975, but nonetheless, when I watched that movie, even though it scared me,
I thought it was like, this is what movies can be.
This is art. This is a beautiful film.
And, like, also, too, I was not...
I did not gravitate to horror personally.
We got to keep it pushing. You got to get out of here, dude.
I do have to get out of here. Sorry, sorry. I'm doing it for you.
I know you have to get done on your job.
I appreciate that. Thank you. But I would say Jaws and Groundhog, Dave, just off the top of my head.
Thank you for the question, by the way. Last one.
Noel Beltran. Thank you so much for being a Patreon.
And for the question, we appreciate it. This is a movie that I make a point to rewatch annually.
around Halloween along with
Scream, Love Scream and that franchise
and there's a few other movies. I'll do
the same thing in different parts of
the year. Do either of you have movies
that you enjoy so much you basically
have to watch on regular basis?
Jaws, July 4th, Groundhog Day,
on Groundhog Day.
I watch the Halloween
franchise whenever we get to Halloween time,
always.
I think what else. I usually try to watch
Love Actually around Christmas time
and also I try to watch Wizard of Oz
a year. Is there a specific
time you have to watch Wizard of Oz? We used to watch
around Christmas time. Oh, yeah.
Is there a specific reason for Christmas time?
I don't know. I think when you're a Jew
growing up, like during that
time period, you watch kind of family movies, right?
Like we weren't watching a lot of Christmas
movies. I just happened to like love actually.
But we did
watch It's a Wonderful Life
very often. That movie's so beautiful.
Oh, it's one of the best ever. I need to watch
that. I would love to maybe on that. I don't know
if that would do on the channel, but I would love
too. Oh my god, it's great. You're on the holidays? Maybe. Yeah, yeah. It's great.
Yeah, maybe. Let us know the comments. Oh, this movie was so good. This movie was disgustingly good. I can't even get over how good it was. I get why you watch. Noel, I get why you rewatch this every year because I think that there's probably so much that I missed in little hints and stuff. And I can't wait to continue on the trilogy with you so that we can see how it is as a package. What's the next one?
Hannibal. And then. And then Red Dragon. And I don't, I'm not sure if you know this, but the director of Hannibal is actually Sir Ridley Scott.
Oh, whoa.
Great, great director.
I believe that was the movie
he did immediately after Gladiator.
Damn.
Okay, well, I'm stoked.
Yeah, anyways, guys, if you joined us,
thank you for all the Patreon questions, by the way.
We really appreciate it.
Thank you for joining us.
We appreciate it.
Don't forget to ring that notification bell.
By the way, you're notified when we drop all these videos
and also in the next one, as Roxy just mentioned,
which is going to be Hannibal.
We appreciate it if you've stuck with us this long.
Thank you so much.
And we will catch you later.
Take care.
