Join Andrew and Aaron as they delve into the high-octane world of The Transporter, the 2002 action-thriller that solidified Jason Statham (The Expendables, Crank) as a leading action star. Statham portrays Frank Martin, a professional driver with a strict code, whose latest assignment leads him into unexpected danger. The film also features Shu Qi (The Assassin, Journey to the West) as Lai, a mysterious passenger who becomes central to the unfolding plot, and François Berléand (Tell No One, The Chorus) as Inspector Tarconi, the persistent law enforcer on Frank's trail. Notable scenes include the adrenaline-pumping "Greased Fighting" sequence, where Frank ingeniously uses motor oil to outmaneuver his adversaries, and the daring "Skydive onto the Convoy" stunt, showcasing his fearless determination. These sequences have captivated audiences and are among the film's most viewed clips on YouTube. For fans eager to explore more of Statham's filmography, some of his most popular movies include Snatch (2000), Crank (2006), The Expendables series (2010-2014), Safe (2012), Parker (2013), Furious 7 (2015), Mechanic: Resurrection (2016), and The Meg (2018). It was nice. I see there. All right. The transporter commence. Wouldn't it be crazy of lies not in the next movie? I know.
Starting point is 00:01:37 She killed her father for this man. And I imagine. But her story's been told, Aaron. With franchises like this, they typically don't. We need a new hot love interest. We need a new hot love interest, James Bond style every single film, Aaron. Aaron, can he fix this for me? Because I can't see what I'm doing.

Starting point is 00:02:18 here now Aaron what did you think of the transporter I had so much fun this is a bloody good time oh yeah man this is awesome this is a lot of fun uh from its weird-ass soundtrack to the amazing action. What are you talking about? Jason Statham's a freaking badass. He's a freaking boss. And, yeah, I know I'm always on here talking about how much I like character-driven stories and, like, not plot-driven stories.
Starting point is 00:02:46 But, man, listen, nothing's just going to beat a good-ass action film. Right. And you didn't need all of that. It was simple. It was clean. It was an hour and a half. It was very well-paced. It was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:02:57 You don't need to know a lot about Frank to get behind his moose. him and Lye had really great chemistry and this was I understand why this is a classic and I would definitely watch this again the that scene with the oil was incredible and yeah man had a good time yeah um just piggybacking off what you said like I'm with you I do love character driven stories and plot driven stories as well the combination of the two equals I mean obviously greatness when it comes to this film this film knew what it wanted to be it wasn't trying to be like anything more than that it was a fun action adventure with the best soundtrack i've ever heard in an action film not even close um and again it it again knew what it was trying to do so i having said that
Starting point is 00:03:42 like and also to like in regards to its characters and the backstories like i appreciate that they didn't go too deep into it as well because knowing what they are like they are like a instead i mean there's a couple lines of dialogue and exposition where he's a military guy and then we see some visual storytelling with the pictures and like okay we know who this guy is right he's got a little bit of compassion moral compass to him and also he's got lie there uh you know to um uh as well um kind to help him with uh that as well i mean because we got it's obviously pertinent to the plot because we need him to uh with the containers and all that also because he breaks the rule uh i still don't get how they knew that but maybe they could tell something when the bag was
Starting point is 00:04:24 right i don't know whatever i guess it doesn't really matter because if if they hadn't done that then there's no film um it was just i was a little confused by that but either way it was a fun good time i loved um all the from this the the tone at the very beginning with that first chase sequence just let you know what kind of film you were in for from the music to the chase to the suave, strategic, fun, badass that Jason Statham is. We're like, okay, this is going to be sick and awesome. And also, too, I did not look up shit on IMDB. So when I was doing that shit that I normally do where I'm like, oh, this guy worked on this,
Starting point is 00:05:06 this guy did this, where it was Luke Besson, Louis Lettier, and Robert Mark Kamen, where I saw that they all worked on this. I love all those guys who were because you got the guy who directed. did Incredible Hulk. You got the guy who wrote all three Karate Kid films and then you got
Starting point is 00:05:22 the guy who wrote one of my favorite sci-fi films ever in the fifth element. If you've seen the fifth element? No. Oh my God. We got to get you to react to that.
Starting point is 00:05:30 I would love to. But again, the combination of the three and I know it said Louis Lettier only did the art direction. I didn't even know he did art direction. That's cool to know that.
Starting point is 00:05:38 But I love that. All three of these great filmmakers and writer obviously worked on this. Such a cool thing. And knowing I'm such a big fan of the three of them that they worked on this too before even the tone and everything was set it was like
Starting point is 00:05:52 okay i i know what i'm in for too just because i'm such a big fan of all three of these uh people and these individuals rather and um again i just think the first sequence uh that first extended sequence it just lets you know who this character is and what kind of film we're in for and i thought that was just the perfect tone setter i mean what did you think that first sequence first sequence was great you know the every action scene in here was was really cool but i think getting that first scene to really established what kind of hero that Jason Statham is or what kind of person he is. And he's not even a hero, he's just a guy doing a job. He's very much about his, not even his money, but about code, about the rules, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:31 and then having them kill another one of their guys just so they can stick to what their original plan was. Right. And then him not taking the extra money because that's not what the deal was. Right. I was like, okay, I know exactly who this guy is. And, you know, it really sets the stage for, for. how strategic and how rigid his system is for there to be a plot that allows him to break
Starting point is 00:06:55 that rigid rigidness right i was going to say rigidity but i don't think that's a word yeah yeah you know what i'm saying i'm picking up what i'm putting down that's right baby you got to yeah but i was going to say too i think lie um i did enjoy i mean they didn't go into a ton of development with their relationship but i think also too she kind of grounds him because he's such i mean you suspend disbelief whenever you got a Jason Statham character because he can do all these superhero type of things and it's odd because we love it it's so much fun to watch but I did actually like watching them together I think they have a really they have really good chemistry one of my favorite scenes was when they're just taking their clothes off I just thought it was fun
Starting point is 00:07:34 I love that like again we're just talking about the tone I just I love they move quick man yeah and I get the music no no time to decompress but again with the with the type of film this is and with the tone it's like yeah fat w it's fast pace, you know what I mean? And I thought it actually worked best to do it that way instead of going into a mundane, let's take our time and get into this relationship. I think it worked with this type of film. So I like that. We were talking about the action sequences. We talked about that first chase sequence. And you talked about that oil scene where, again, we talked about how methodical, how strategic, how calculating is, which we got to see in that first scene. We was like, no,
Starting point is 00:08:13 the deal doesn't work because you're supposed to weigh this much. I only filled it up this much and then he also jumped onto the car because he knew the exact amount of speed he was going he knew how the distance so we know how calculating and strategic this man is and seeing all these guys that he's battling with he got this other big guy who we haven't seen that bald guy that we saw at the very beginning put a lie into the trunk we know how powerful and strong that guy is so it's like as strong as jason statham is this guy's almost like two times his size, but we know that Jason Statham is still like very strategic, as I just mentioned, and we know he can, yeah, exactly. And he's also able to think quickly on his feet. So like from
Starting point is 00:08:53 that perspective, you know, fight smart, not hard. And I love that we got to see his capabilities there from that perspective. And then on top of that, you add that the inventiveness of the oil, like where no one can grab him and then he puts on those things so that way he can gain traction on the ground. That might be one of my, again, I know we always talk about recency bias. stuff we just watched. I'm not going to say it's my favorite actions, a hand-to-hand combat in a film. I'm not going that far. Hell no. But it's one, I think it's one of the most inventive and fun action sequences I've ever seen in a film. It's definitely like in that, on that, in my in my filmography action adventure list. I just thought it was fun and inventive. It was
Starting point is 00:09:31 great. I've never, I can't like just out of the top of my head think of that where I've seen an action sequence like that. And again, I just think it was a way of showing not only like, I don't know where Robert Mark came in the other right, I think it was Luke Passan, Locke and I, who came up with that sequence, but I don't know how the hell they came up with that, but that was so brilliantly done. And I loved every second of it. And my favorite is when they do those wide shots where we get to see Jason really doing the action. I think it's where he gets to shine the most. But there were a couple close-up shots that were staying tracking on him. I was like, those were some good ones too. There were a couple times where
Starting point is 00:10:09 cut away here and there on action and I get it action sequences hand-to-hand are very freaking tough to do but those were my favorite those long wide shots with a couple of those close-ups that they stay tracking in but what do you think of the the cinematography as it relates to the hand-to-hand combat oh it was phenomenal the fact that we're able to watch a movie where the action doesn't cut every two and a half seconds and you can't tell what's happening is great I love that they let us soak in the action you actually get to see that this is jason statham doing these things yeah and he's taking out multiple guys and we're are we using cuts sure but the fact that we're letting some of these scenes live within a single frame is great and i think
Starting point is 00:10:51 that's just a tell to the type of director who did this i've never seen their work before but yeah i i definitely understand why this is like a classic and i haven't seen a wealth of jason satan films but seeing him do what he does here it makes me want to watch more of them i'm like hell yeah give me transport a three four five six and i know that he did this other franchise called like crank right i want to watch those too yeah i want to watch the cranks i never seen those but yeah i think that the way that it was shot was incredible and i would love to explore more of that because yeah if we're starting if we're starting on the ground with freaking oil fights and slipping slides i can't only imagine how much crazier the next couple are going to be yeah yeah no for
Starting point is 00:11:35 Sure. I will make, I want to mention one more character before we get to, uh, excuse me, before we get to, uh, the, the trivia and all that, and then you can mention anything else you want to mention. Is it the cop? I did like that cop because at first I was like, ah, this is going to be the annoying cop that just never stops investigating, which again, it's normal procedure for an action film because when you got shit like this happening, you have to have a cop that investigates, of course. Right. Um, but I like the way they developed his character. I actually thought he had the most character development of any character. because I wasn't expecting that to happen.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Like, they see eye to eye, and I thought that was a little bit of a weird comparison that I made with the Batman Commissioner Gordon, but he really was kind of his silent partner. But again, I like that they see eye to eye, and he's like he knows he's an ex-military guy, and he knows he's like bureaucracy, bureaucracy can get in the way, and like these guys aren't up to no good,
Starting point is 00:12:26 and shit's not going to get solved. And Jason Statham's like a one-man art than me, let this guy do what he does. So I really did appreciate that character, and I didn't really see it coming that that's what was going to happen, which I always like, you know, having unpredictability when it comes to either story beats or characters developing in a way I didn't see coming in a satisfactory way. And I really like this. Besides Jason Statham, obviously, and live for specific reasons. The cop was actually my problem, my favorite character besides those two, obviously. I really like the way, I think he was the best developed character in the film personally. Okay, just from a character development perspective, but do you feel, how do you feel about that? Do you feel he was the best developed character? Am I crazy on that? Oh, I think.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Say it, Aaron. Say I'm crazy. You're cuckoo coca puffs. I knew it. I thought the cop was great. I think, obviously, for me, Jason Statham was probably the most developed from being a guy who was so rigid to risking his life to save 400 people. Yeah. On a train.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Okay. Or on a truck. But, yeah, I think the cop was also. a really good character. I thought he was very cool in the sense that you know he he gave Jason Statham the benefit of the doubt or gave Frank
Starting point is 00:13:42 the benefit of the doubt in spite of all how many crazy things were surrounding him because yeah they just had that rapport and then he let him out of jail and he just trusted him so yeah I think he was a very strong character as well and I hope that he comes back for the sequel if you guys like this and you want us to watch
Starting point is 00:13:59 I'm not disagreeing with what you just said that Jason Statham's character definitely developed over the film especially when he came like he just wanted to do his job and not have to worry about this other shit like you know what i mean so there was development there i just thought it just went a little bit longer way in terms of with the cop character but i do agree there was definitely some major development with his character as well i just i just didn't expect to see it with that cop and that's why i appreciated uh personally but i do agree with you there was some major development with his character um do you have anything else you'd like to add before we get into
Starting point is 00:14:29 Trivia. No, let's transport on over to the trivia. That was very clever. I appreciate you. I say what you did there. I do really want to see that this guy was in the Fast and Furious. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:14:47 The Fast and Furious, and he was in Blade 2. I do remember that. He said Blade 1. He's in Blade 1, but let's see if he was in Fast 5. I was right about that. Okay. Cool. All right.
Starting point is 00:14:56 So, let's get it. Oh, Louis Lettier did direct this one. as well, the director of Incredible Hulk. Oh, see, he's cute. That's very cool. All right, let's get into trivia. Trivia. When Lai is flipping through the pictures at Frank's house, the photo of the little boy with
Starting point is 00:15:16 the monkey really is Jason Statham. I mean, that's a staple they do in so many movies. They just tell, ask the actor, hey, can you get us some pictures of you when you were younger and we'll insert it into the film here. That's awesome. Yeah, yeah, no. That's really cool. Aaron, you're going to be so shocked by this.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Jason Statham did most of his own stunts on this film. What? Can you believe it? My mind is on the floor because it got so blown. That one, I can't believe I'm reading. Well, obviously. I think we knew that. I know.
Starting point is 00:15:48 I was fantastic. The trailer for the film, which obviously Aaron and I never saw the trailer, showed Frank deflecting a missile with a tea tray. What? In the same scene in the film, the assault on Frank's house, there is no sign of this in the released version. It was taken out at Jason Statham's request because he didn't think audiences would believe it.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Jason, I would have believed it because you are in that scene and you're the transporter. You're great, man. You can deflect anything with those apps. You could have roundhouse kicked it. I would have believed it. Yes. I get where he was coming from to take that out, though,
Starting point is 00:16:24 but that would have been so sick. when lie is cooking breakfast for frank she accidentally burns her fingers then touches her ear this is actually a method used to help cool a burn as the earlobe helps to disperse the heat Aaron I did not know that did you know never heard that before that's cool it's good knowledge case I burn myself yeah remember that next time I burn my fingers hopefully it never happens but good to know that too now Jason Statham did almost all the driving during the car chases I would hope so. He's the transporter.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Okay. Don't cheap out on me. I mean, but, you know, to the point of that trivia, I mean, there were some, especially that first sequence and some of the other ones, there were some dangerous-ass stunts with the driving. So I'm glad that they put that in there to let us know that one because I could see like him doing his own hand-to-hand on the combat stuff there, you know what I mean, in terms of his own stunts, but like the driving, like, that's a whole level of scary as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I mean, because there were some dangerous-ass stunts in there. Jason Statham learned how to hotwire car just for one scene And I quote Would have liked to know that when I was about 15 That was pretty good Pretty good stay from there Thank you Aaron
Starting point is 00:17:38 Welcome Andrew Jason Statham knew how to kickbox But had to train in martial arts Before shooting began Oh good because his That was awesome shit that he was doing in this With the hand-dand combat And you even said too
Starting point is 00:17:54 What was the fighting style? What did you say again? Oh, Stath Foo? Stath Foo, right? Yeah, well, it was martial arts. It was martial arts. There's your answer. There it is.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Wasn't Miyagi Dube, but it was martial arts. The role of Frank Martin was written for Jason Statham after producers saw him in the one. I didn't even know he was in the one. I never saw it, but I know that's Jet Lee. We've seen the one too. Frank's car is a BMW 750 I, E38, pre-facelift. The car in the movie is the only one. ever produced with a manual six-speed gearbox.
Starting point is 00:18:28 This information is obtained from the full-length audio commentary available on DVD. People have made conversations using the manual gearbox from the BMW 850 CSI E-31, but that car is genuinely rare. Cool. Very cool. All right, I'll go a couple more,
Starting point is 00:18:45 and then we'll call it. Because of the language barrier, Shukhi, I'm sorry if I mispronounced it, that's lie. Okay. And Jason Statham couldn't communicate. communicate off screen. She said it was like rooster and duck all day long. Really? God, I wish someone was feeling. What, does she only learn lines for the movie? I guess so. Oh, so here we go. Shuki spoke almost no English when she was cast. The producers
Starting point is 00:19:08 gave her the script early so she could practice with an English teacher in Hong Kong. Oh, wow. Yeah. Um, okay. Let's go. Spoilies. Let's go to spoilers. Only one. Wow. I'm surprised. after Frank delivers the first items to the robbers in the Renault and the inspector comes to visit Frank at home. He talks about the stops he needs to make to check out the other 88 BMW 765s with 06 in the registration plate. But BMW never made, not even for this movie, a 765, not in the shape 1999 E33, nor in any other shape. Frank corrects him to say 1999 black BMW 735, but the actual VO. as described in the director's cut
Starting point is 00:19:55 there's a director's cut we didn't watch that one I don't know I don't think we did is a manual 750 IL specifically made for the movie cool awesome facts actually there were some really cool ones but like we said and I'll let you get the last word I really enjoyed this it was fun very cheesy
Starting point is 00:20:13 at times but the kind of cheesy I love in an action adventure Jason Statham was awesome I like the chemistry and that sexy was fucking awesome that was great between him and shukki
Starting point is 00:20:28 however you say her name they had really good chemistry with each other some inventive action sequences that first scene set the tone just let us know what we were in for extremely fast-paced but I think it was perfectly
Starting point is 00:20:40 paced as well with this type of film that one sequence was really interesting it was like documentaries style with the camera but overall and the music I'm sorry I love the soundtrack to this movie so good even if it was out of place a couple of times i don't give a shit um but i had a great time this was fun erin you get the last word my good friend oh the music was phenomenal i definitely want to
Starting point is 00:21:03 listen to it more because it was so funky and weird and even the actual needle drops were all funky and weird and there's like that one song with they was just listing items which is hilarious uh the action was great i i really had a great time watching this movie with you guys with Andrew. And yeah, if you guys want us to watch more Transporter, more Jason Statham, we would love to do so because this was hell of fun. Yeah, no, I would love to watch more transport. You guys got to make it happen. Hit that like button. Like Greg and John know you want to see it happen if you guys made it this far in the video. Thank you so much. We appreciate. Appreciate you. Yes. And make sure, yeah, you guys hit that bell notification on where you were
Starting point is 00:21:43 notified when we drop videos like this and we will see you guys next time. Have a good day, guys. I don't know.
