Aaron, got anything else you want to add here unnecessarily to delay us from filming this reaction?
Umbrellas Academy, we're going to be your all day.
Content.
That's right, baby.
All right, guys.
We've got several episodes to go through.
keep them short. We know that most people just binge this stuff and don't take them in an
episode at a time. But because we are filming these, we have to take them in one episode at a time
and review them. Pointlessly.
Let's pointlessly review it.
Even though if we were just by ourselves, like all of you, we would just binge it and not think
about it.
Massly.
We would go. Next one. Next.
What do you think, Aaron?
I thought it was good.
I think that it was nicely when we get introduced to our characters again, see where they are six
years later. This is the most amount of time we've seen them since the first season where there's
been large gaps in times since the entire castes together. I think that it was, not that it was
slow, but that we only have six episodes and I feel like not a lot happened. I don't think the
hook of what's the thing that needs to happen for us to guess the plot has happened yet. We're just
kind of teasing it. And I feel like a lot more needs to go on quicker for there to be like, for it to
warrant such a short amount of run times, a short amount of episodes. But I will say the great thing.
All the cast are still great. Their chemistry is still amazing. The humor is still there.
And I look forward to seeing what weird intrigue kind of unfolds. Greg, what did you think?
I could not disagree more. Really? Yeah. I thought that was a great first episode.
Okay. And I think I think they introduced so much. They introduced the underground part of the timelines.
you have to mainly establish your characters and where they're at
and they focus so much on who they are as characters at this current point in time
and I feel like there are some stakes due to the collision of timelines
you could feel some type of imminent threat happening
and I think that for it being six episodes
that's so much shorter and part of me is wondering like
because to go from 10 to 6 probably feels like to me like they only needed 6
and they're probably telling like a movie instead of uh instead of like stretching it out because
there are parts in season three especially where i was like this could have been cut out or
this could have been trimmed down where it does feel stretched out to me i thought this was
really tight and funny and i found it really intriguing and better than a lot of episodes of
season three honestly i thought that was really great okay i think you always go negative though
you're kind of known no i may i name the positive things you tend to go negative you're kind of known
for that around you lean negative because you're cool you're contrarian yeah or if or people are really
negative about something you go positive i understand your your game i care i care i understand
your flow i get it you know what get it the rest of the show is trash is the best episode
no but i i think for me i i just watch season three like over the past two days and just
watching recaps but i think i'm accustomed to the show like hey
the ground running with it's like it leads with the mystery and like the weirdness and I feel like
this is like a more grounded episode even though our characters are still our characters I think
the best part for me we're seeing where they are now after some time has passed and I think for I'm
still waiting for the the shoe to drop but not to say that I don't enjoy it I still very much enjoy
seeing all these people together you know we've watched them over the course of 30 days in three
seasons and now going into season four it hasn't hooked me yet I will say that I'm in true
read, but I'm not close. Wow. Wow. Yeah. I'm on the complete opposite fence of you. I forgot there
was a camera rolling for a while. I was I was like sucked in. I thought this was really amazing.
Yeah. I think like the different storylines offer kind of a different tone. Like this is,
this was such a character-driven episode. I thought the characters were so strong. And that's
one of my favorite parts about it. It's like they're powerless. And a lot of times when you
strip characters away from their powers, it becomes a challenge. Like, are they really?
really are they truly interesting without their powers are they truly like fun characters to watch
without their powers and i liked watching how human and more relatable they are now and how
much they don't even really care for their powers but they still care to like do the right
things and still fight for the right things i i think that aspect of it just makes it that
much more true i feel like ben is already i feel like he he took notes in they turned him down
for sure because ben in the last season was the one actor whereas like when he was ghost ben i really
enjoyed him. But when he was Sparrow Academy, Ben, I just didn't believe him in the way that
portrayal was done. And this is carrying over that Sparrow Academy Ben. But his delivery here in
performance just feels so much more believable all around. And I'm like, oh, okay, cool. Like,
I'm glad this actor, like, took some notes in or something because I do feel like it's a market
improvement. And yeah, just like the family dynamics and like the realization of everything they,
this is like the umbrella academy. They always wanted a normal life. And now that they have it,
they're not satisfied and then and then the mystery hook of like our our villains of what's
nick offerman's wife's name fuck they're both both have the same name oh megamilalli that's
megan malali yeah she looks so different now yeah because you guys her whole the will and grace girl
yeah that's his wife really yeah we can look it up i'm pretty sure on parks and wreck there was
like mega malolli and then the other girl and then she was just in last of us that was his wife
Last of us.
Megan Malawi.
Megan Malallies and Last of Us?
Yeah, she was the one going after the other brothers, the Black brothers, remember?
That wasn't Megan Malawi.
It's not the same?
No, it's not me.
Like girls from two and a half men.
Oh, they look so similar.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Is that who she is?
Because it sounds like her.
I could have sworn it's Megan Malawi.
But Nick Offerman, a wife.
No, I think you're right.
I think you're right.
Yeah, you're right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, she just looks so different now.
Oh, yeah, right.
That's a chick from two and a half, man.
I get those two actresses mixed up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
She's great.
But no, it's cool to see them like playing husband and wife,
but embracing these roles where they're very believable as these.
I don't know what you go like.
They look like hokey pokey conspiracy theory cult groups,
but they're right.
That's what's so fun about it.
It's like it kind of has that second season.
season vibe of them in the the time of the 60s of like deep state and government conspiracy
and elite covering up the truth something that still happens today but that being like a
really prevalent genre in the 60s and I feel like that's really carrying over here like
that has a kind of vintage vibe to it yeah the contrasts like communist meetings and stuff
like that a lot yeah I enjoy the contrast of like their
they're more goofier or period silly appearance with their kind of like
undertones of cynicism there as well I think that stuff's very cool but you know
what I don't think it grabbed me as much as it grabbed you but I will say that
with it being six episodes and you're saying like oh it's like more like a mini
movie I think that making that adjustment in my head rather than being like a
full length episode full length season of television will kind of help me get more
acclimated I don't know I mean that great I really don't know no no it
But granted, that does make sense, you know, because it's like the three acts.
We're still in act one of the six-act story, or this three-act story.
But to go before, I think the show had always been very character-focused.
I think that's what made it what it was.
It was very much based in their character and their relationships.
But I think in addition to that, because I always say, like, the thing that grabs me the most about shows or movies is strong characters.
I mean, I think Umbrella Academy is the perfect example of an interesting plot mixed with
strong characters and strong relationships
and though I am interested
in the like it has
it has my curiosity but doesn't have my
full attention yet I understand it's adult life
and you don't know what it's like so you
have a hard time dealing
you have a hard time like enjoying
what adult life
is like I understand
I get it
he's married they're married
there's
there's so much about
responsibilities of being on their own
it's really hard
and I understand
this is like
real life bleeding into reaction
it's weird
I don't know man
I think it's fun
I think it
I know
I know you can tell you
I don't really care about your
really care if we have a difference of opinion
no I think
but yeah
I'm
I'm curious to see where
or how Hardgrave plays into this.
I'm curious to see how what other Ben plays into this.
And yeah, are we going to have this doomsday clock thing going?
Because I feel like everyone is every season has had that motif of like,
we got to race against the clock to like solve the thing.
But we don't have that yet.
I think I just became accustomed to the structure of the show and the structure is now changing.
So getting reacclimated with how this season wants to present itself is something that I'm still waiting for.
So that's how I feel in short.
But again, I still enjoyed what we want.
No, I understand that.
I remember having that effect when we started season three.
And I guess I'm just more on board for something that just feels very different.
You know, I feel like if you're going to do your final season, don't just repeat yourself.
And I think there was like a similarity to the other three.
But yeah, anyway, let's find out.
Let's find out if it feels like a mini movie or if it gets rushed in the end.
Let's find out.
Guys, what did you think about the first episode?
Keep a lookout for a second one.
Thanks for being here Saturday to be on the journey.
