Starting point is 00:01:52 loved this did I ask for your take you speak when asked gonna give it first of all the women really held this together they are the glue they are the glue they analyzed and helped Woody really through what felt like a bit of maybe a midlife crisis situation. True. I really felt like it was about, you know, we felt like that number three was such a goodbye, neat little bow ending, right?

Starting point is 00:02:22 Bo. But this felt like we're bringing up the next generation of toys and giving them their second life. And I really love that. I really love that. yeah it's a hard sell like the the first sorry no i was just going to say it felt it felt like it was a great progression now to watch all four of these in order like it did feel like we were growing up with with the with the whole franchise yeah you know what i mean even the way it was written the the the adult jokes that kind of went over the head um it just felt really clever to me in that way too

Starting point is 00:03:02 I feel like we have grown up now. I agree with you. With Woody. I agree with you. Did you like Bo Peep's progression? Well, yes, I did. A liberated, independent woman living off the land, traveling. Yeah, love it.

Starting point is 00:03:20 I actually forgot she wasn't. You called it out a couple times. Did I? Oh, good for me. Yeah, you did. You called it when we were watching it. I did. I always kind of felt like we were lacking in the third.

Starting point is 00:03:32 some girl toys, besides Barbie, really, in three. But I think they made up for that a lot, especially just giving the women such strong, strong, the way that they all seem to analyze Woody, what is the word I'm looking for. Even Gabby Gabby, she really got him in a place of being empathetic with her, of her never getting a chance at being somebody. his toy and Woody got to do that and now he gets to live his whole second half of life doing something even better for his fellow toys. How did you feel about the subversion of Gabby Gabby? I liked it a lot. I was pretty scared of her off the bat. Yeah. I think they play with that expectation. Yeah, for sure. Two villainous toys in a row. Right. Right. And then you finally get Gabby

Starting point is 00:04:26 Gabby who's surrounded by these creepy ventriloquist dolls. But yeah, we understand. But we understand. We understand why. We understand why. Yeah, even when she's like being honest in her intentions, I like the way the movie like frames it like it's a horror thing. Yeah. And then you go, oh, it's not. Well, the antique shop is a perfect setting for that. Yeah. You know?

Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah. The carnival setting was a cool place to do it at. Yeah. I like the antique situation far more than I liked the collector in two. Yes. You know what I mean? Always take an opportunity to take down two. Take down number two.

Starting point is 00:05:03 Jeez, over here. I'll say, like, I didn't. It was, it was such a weird experience, like the first hour because I was going, this movie's so good. And it's the best looking one of them all. Yeah, for sure. And it's so good. I was watching it, though, going, man, it's like, it's such an unfair bar because

Starting point is 00:05:26 three was, like, pretty perfect to me from beginning to end. Yeah. That I was finding myself. going, what a weird experience because this is a great movie coming after a perfect movie. Totally. So I found myself kind of at odds of going like, it still feels like, did we need this? And then I think its finale really justifies its existence in a very strong way. Absolutely. Absolutely.

Starting point is 00:05:52 Where it makes the journey worth it because I was finding myself like loving, like finding it. I've never had, I've never quite had an experience like. Like, what a great movie. But do we need this? Do we need it, really? I know what you mean. Yeah, it doesn't feel like a cash grab. It's very much thoughtful and everything.

Starting point is 00:06:12 But yeah, by the time you get to the finale. But written for this demographic that grew up with these movies. Yeah. I think the timeline is really clever. I mean, I'm glad that they take their, they take something like 2010, I think was when Toy Story 3 came out. And then now I've been almost 10 years later for this. So they really took their time with three and four to find a, a prize. proper way, a real way for this movie to exist.

Starting point is 00:06:34 And it lines up with Woody's arc. Like, Buzz's arcs in the, Buzz's, Buzz arched in one and then he's got to just been the same. Yeah, it's true. It's very true. It's not really even like much of anything here. Maybe not a whole lot of substance. No, but it's funny how like Buzz has remained just as equally popular, but he's not

Starting point is 00:06:55 much of a character. He's consistent. But I think in this one, especially his presence is a lot more. more it's not diluted, but there's not as much investment in his presence here. Yeah. But the goodbye scene was great with him. And yeah, this is really like Woody's story of letting go. And it lines up with Woody having to contend with the fact of, because I like that, a question

Starting point is 00:07:21 it poses of he just keep, is this what he's going to do for the rest of his life? Right. Just keep getting his heartbroken and being like living a life as an immortal toy. Yeah. You know? This is like question of the, it's so existential. And you're dealing with toys that are essentially immortal and less killed. Right.

Starting point is 00:07:37 And to see, to have this journey with him where it's like, but this love can last forever with Bo Peep. Is there something like rather beautiful about it? I was, I was surprised by how, I mean, I shouldn't be because I've seen the movie before, but I just didn't remember it. What I was saying, what I remembered. I remember that, I remember Keanu Rees was in this as Duke Caboom. And I totally forgot about the, I forgot about. pretty much everything. The carnival setting,

Starting point is 00:08:00 I didn't remember Gabby Gabby. And I knew that at some point, Woody was going to leave them behind. Oh, yeah? Yeah. And so I started seeing some of those seams there. And I love as a bookend how it starts off with Woody and Bo Peep saying goodbye to each other.

Starting point is 00:08:16 He chooses to be with the kid instead of her. And this time, he chooses to be with her instead of the kid. He chooses love this time. Yeah. Even handing off the badge. And they soften the blow. It's smart to soften the blow because it's not.

Starting point is 00:08:29 like Bonnie is missing him. Bonnie's already kind of forgetting about him. Oh, the dust bunny. So good. Yeah. Your first dust bunny. Which it would be harder if she was like still so in love with Woody. Right, right.

Starting point is 00:08:41 This is fucked up. But he really wanted to help all the way along. He wanted to be a kindergarten with her. He wanted to help along. And now he and Bo Peep get to do that together. Yeah. You know? Yeah, definitely.

Starting point is 00:08:54 I would say I like this more than Toy Story 2. Not more than 3, but I don't. But I like this more. I like this a lot. So you would say one, three, three, four, two? I would actually say three, three, one, four, two. That's my personal ranking, three, one, four, two. Oh, you're putting three.

Starting point is 00:09:09 But I have a phenomenally higher opinion of two than you. I love to. You just like to. I love to. Yeah. I love to. So, yeah, I would, I would say. You love to?

Starting point is 00:09:25 Yeah, I love to. I thought, I thought two is great. I would definitely put two as... Strong word. I definitely put it as number four in my ranking of Toy Story movies. And it might be blasphemy for some people. Like, four is like... I imagine four should be four for a moose.

Starting point is 00:09:44 Four, I would you put four above two. I do. I do. So, yeah. Any stray thoughts? Can we look up with the Triceratopses? Because I kept meaning to do that through each of these. She was, I think she's a voice on Bob's Burgers, and she was on that show, Last Man on Earth.

Starting point is 00:10:07 Yeah. Christian Shawl. Oh, yeah, yeah. You know her, right? Oh, you know her, right? Oh, you know her, right. I love Last Man on Earth. Oh, yeah, I got into that.

Starting point is 00:10:13 She was excellent on that show. Does she do a voice on Bob's Burger, too? I think so. Yeah, Bob's Burgundy Falls. She is so cute. Such a great voice, such a great comedic actress. And this is Tony Hale, who plays. I believe it's Tony Hale.

Starting point is 00:13:19 Hi, Master T. A common review of this movie is that it ruins the trilogy that comes before it. While four wasn't my personal favorite, I still thought it was pretty good. With the release of Toy Story 5 coming out soon, do you think this franchise should end, keep going, or spin it off into something else? It's crazy because there is a whole universe out there of toys.

Starting point is 00:13:49 Yeah, I'm really curious to know where 5 is going to go. I know Woody's back. I heard one thing about that they tried doing a draft without Woody. But people That was not a good idea Yeah Woody's the star of Toy Story Yeah

Starting point is 00:14:05 Woody's got to come I mean the only thing I know Is that the iPad is the villain Which I think is amazing That's a great That's a great plot Yeah Um

Starting point is 00:14:13 Do Go ahead No please you go I'm interested to see I don't want it to end But I think it would be wise To maybe spin it off Into something else

Starting point is 00:14:25 Although I don't know How you would do that Without Woody either It's tough because the thing that really sells four is the way it ends, you know. Right. And it's really hard to get a great ending after a perfect conclusion. Well, three felt like a perfect conclusion to me.

Starting point is 00:14:48 And four kind of proved me wrong on that. Yeah. So. But it was like the journey, like I was saying, the journey was so good. And then it really just, I really feel like it justifies itself. Right. to exist by the time you get to its finale. And I guess five just has the same task.

Starting point is 00:15:04 Yeah, ask us again after five. How often can you do that? Yeah, yeah. Well, the commentary of five is exciting to me because of technology versus imagination. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, so there is something cool there. Maybe in the evolution of time, there might be something there, but it seems like they have something to actually say.

Starting point is 00:15:22 So, yeah, as long as they have something to say, but I really feel like it's always about the characters at the end of the day. Yeah. I don't really want to walk in there with a bunch of messages. What is just walking there, like, for the character. Right, or what? It's like Woody's going to be there for, like, a few minutes, maybe, and then he's gone, you know? I don't know.

Starting point is 00:15:39 I'm excited. I'm excited. Kiv B. Howdy, Paige and Greg. Or as we call ourselves, Grage. Grage. Filled with lots of Grage. So what do you think about the ending?

Starting point is 00:15:53 Do you feel like Woody made the right call by leaving, or do you think you just chose himself over the rest of the gang? Wow, that sounds bleeding. Yeah, I feel like he absolutely made the right call. Yeah, Kev. That I assume. Calm down, Kev. I think he absolutely made the right call. Woody needed to do something else for himself and find love for himself.

Starting point is 00:16:16 He was going to rot away in the closet. I chose himself for the rest of the game. Oh, I see what he's saying. Yeah. No, I think he made the right call. I think he's always chosen everyone else but himself. at the end of the day. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:16:30 He always has. I mean, yeah. He's got to be selfish. Some things are never going to change. Drink. Do some drugs. Explore. Get back into that back room of the end to the shop.

Starting point is 00:16:42 What were those pills you were passing? It was batteries. He was like, I just need batteries. You got a battery? Do you battery acid here? Yeah. That was too on the nose, but it's good. Adult toy story, Jim.

Starting point is 00:17:00 Yeah. All right, next word. Captain, Captain Fernandez, like many people, I feel part three wrapped up the series beautifully. Do you think the story told in part four was good enough to justify continuing the series? I think we just addressed that, yeah.

Starting point is 00:17:18 I think I've answered this exactly in the way you would want me to add. Yeah, you gave Captain Fernandez what he wanted. By exactly saying the words justify. Yeah. For sure. Because in the beginning, I was sold of like, oh, yeah, we didn't know what happened of Bo Peep.

Starting point is 00:17:33 So this can help explain some of that. And I like how they told the love story for the, there's the first time they told the love story, too. Still no kiss at the end, I noticed. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Not in our Toy Story movie. They really want, really wants to grow up with these toys. It's a lot of more things they can be doing.

Starting point is 00:17:51 Oh, was pregnant in a toy story. No. All right. We're going to make Grage We're going to make Grage happen We're going to make it happen Or pageeggery Sounds longer

Starting point is 00:18:05 Yeah That's not a nickname I might be in the minority here But I really enjoyed the movie I don't know man People love this movie Do they not? Am I fucking crazy?

Starting point is 00:18:16 I don't think they'd be making a five If they were just really on three Right What's Toy Story for I'm going to rot in tomatoes It's got a 97% critic scored a 94% audience score out of 50,000 plus ratings. People like this movie.

Starting point is 00:18:33 That's a very well-approved experience of a film. But what a Toy Story? I know. Now I want to know at three. Toy Story 3. Ooh, 98. Wow. It's a lot higher.

Starting point is 00:18:46 One point. Wow. It's a lot higher. Toy Story 2. 100%. That sounds angry, weird toy toy. collectors. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:18:59 People who fanatics can't handle criticism. Wow, one and two. That's because Rotten Tomatoes was really popular then. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:19:10 They paid for. Anyway, it was a nice epilogue to the series specifically. I was excited to see Bo Peep again. Which characters are you hoping to see

Starting point is 00:19:20 return in the fifth movie or are you looking forward to getting to know new characters for the next installment? I'm looking forward. Who did not? return. I want my triceratops gal to have some storyline. It's interesting how they have like characters that...

Starting point is 00:19:34 They should be the spinoff. Yeah. It's interesting how they have like, like Jesse was such a main character into. And then they don't really focus. Like Woody's always the main focus. It seems like you have to do that. I don't know if you could really push any other character. I like when they do a new character. I think they succeed

Starting point is 00:19:58 with their new characters every time. Yeah. Although I would say they enhance Barbie. I think that was a nice surprise. Yeah. Barbie was a cool, like funny thing and two. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:20:07 Three, they made her a real character. Mm-hmm. I think they took a good advantage of that. Yeah. I'm excited for the iPad, for sure. What toys do kids play with? You would know, and you have little kids. What do they play with?

Starting point is 00:20:19 Nowadays? The iPad. The iPad I gave them. We share it. I mean, I think I've said this one. before my little boy plays with toys. Like he is so into toys for hours and hours by himself, Buzz and Woody and all of his Spider-Man's.

Starting point is 00:20:36 And my daughter does not play with toys at all, never has. Wow, she lacks imagination. She likes for somebody to be playing with her, to be giving her one-on-one. My husband actually just brought home a video game console for her. Is she athletic? Can't she do pole jumping? Don't talk about my daughter being on polls.

Starting point is 00:20:58 Sorry. You think I would have jumped to that joke first? She is, we will see about athleticism. We are far more a family of artists, I would say. But we're going to try some sports. She does draw. She makes a lot of... She makes lots of creatures like forky for sure.

Starting point is 00:21:22 She's super imaginative. She's very imaginative. There you go. Yeah. But she doesn't play with toys. Like I think of my son as being more imaginative because he will play with, you know, a Spider-Man figurine for hours. And she never really did that. But she's creating. She is creating.

Starting point is 00:21:39 Does he create? He's only three. It's kind of hard to tell. He just got good at a full circle. I think that's a sorry. But he does like a full storyline. Like he'll have Spider-Man have a birthday party and his friends come over, you know? Oh, that's cool.

Starting point is 00:21:56 Yeah. Yeah. I like how do you think your son would be more creative because he plays with toys when your daughter is actually drawing. Yeah, no, it's true. But that's just what the way my, it's just very interesting to me that they are so different to watch them grow up and be just so very different from each other in the way that they play. Well, I'm here to defend your daughter. Okay. She was sweet.

Starting point is 00:22:21 She came over here. She might be in love with you, Greg. I feel like I need to talk to Olivia about it. Did you not see how many times she wrote, I love you, Greg, on the muffin card? She's sweet. She's sweet. I will not yes and any weird jokes right now.

Starting point is 00:22:35 Yeah, please don't. I've learned my lesson. We're going to Fun Surface. Jaden Rhodes, is this my turn? Yeah. Yeah, I guess I don't know. This is Fun Service questions. This movie gets a lot of hate,

Starting point is 00:22:50 mainly because people feel like it is such an unnecessary sequel. I think it's actually, pretty good movie, but I would probably rank it last out of these four. I'm curious if y'all agree. Also, how would y'all rank the four movies before the fifth comes out? And do you plan to watch the light year movie? Wait, there's a separate light year movie? Oh yeah, that one totally failed at the box office. I remember- Waited already. When did that happen? It's not it's not Tim Allen. It's like, it's not based off Buzz Lightyear in this world. Like, it's not, it's not based off Buzz Lightyear in this world. It's like if Buzz Lightyear, imagine there's like a popular toy.

Starting point is 00:23:33 How do I explain this? Imagine there's like a popular toy that exists now that was based off of a movie. That's like kind of the implication that Buzz Lightyear is based off of this movie. I see, I see. So it's like it's a different, it's a completely different story and movie and everything. It's not really like inviting emperors or actually I don't remember who's, is there a villain in that movie? I don't remember the movie that well. Yeah, it seems to sounds great.

Starting point is 00:23:59 But I remember thinking it was a cool movie. Oh, man, I completely forgot about it right now. When did it come out in between which two? No, it came out, it came out 2022. Oh. Yeah, so, oh, yeah, the cat. Oh, I do remember this poster now. Yeah, it was like a whole real movie.

Starting point is 00:24:21 Huh. I mean, Chris Evans voices him. That's very strange to me. that they wouldn't have Tim Allen do it. I mean, it's a completely, it's like, yeah, I guess the implication is that the buzz light your toys like based off of him.

Starting point is 00:24:34 I think it was a hard sell. I think they should have condensed some stuff to make it really attainable for people to wrap their heads around what this movie was. If they probably should just kind of Tim Allen to do the voice and that probably would be way better. That would have been way better.

Starting point is 00:24:47 Probably would help save a lot of explanation, honestly. I mean, do people like even cover this movie? I don't know if people even watch this movie. I forgot all about it. We can hate watch it. I don't have to hate watching. We can maybe just watch it.

Starting point is 00:25:01 I remember enjoying it. I don't remember what happens in it, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit. I totally forgot. Yeah, people like, this was one of those movies that, when it came out, it was like, we're going to hate this movie. Yeah, they were ready to hate it. We're going to dog.

Starting point is 00:25:15 Yeah, they were ready to, like, tear it apart. It's got, like, all right reviews. 74% on Ron Tomatoes, 84% audience, which is like a bee. Anyway, I don't know, to answer your question. And yeah, you know, I feel like a lot of people hated four before it came out, but then saw four and were surprised. Yeah, probably. So I think a lot of people still bind to this narrative that people hate for, but that's just not true.

Starting point is 00:25:42 I don't hate for. Jay Rush said, With toys freak out if they watch Pinocchio because it's toy, which become real boy there. Also, page mom reactors are very popular on the internet. Mom reacts. Page mom reactors? Yeah, we should just call you a mom reactor. Mom reacts to it.

Starting point is 00:26:02 We should embrace you being a mom. Oh, okay. Instead of your professional chosen career that you went to college for. I love Prairie. It's just life. Tis life. Yeah, I think they would. Pinocchio should be in the new one.

Starting point is 00:26:16 It's Disney. It's synergy. Yeah. You should do Pinocchio. Is Pinocchio not a period of anything? I feel like Pinocchio would be a great toy to include. Yeah, he would. I can only remember the Gierramone del

Starting point is 00:26:26 Toro. Never saw that one? Pinocchio. It's very scary. I heard it was brilliant. It's, I mean, it wasn't bad. It's just very creepy. It's very weird.

Starting point is 00:26:35 Is it just one, it's not a miniseries? It's like a movie? No, yeah. It was a movie. Oh. It's called Pinocchio, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, I remember it won like Oscars.

Starting point is 00:26:43 I just don't, I never saw the trailer or anything for it. Yeah, people really love this, but holy crap. Yeah. That's a beloved, it's a beloved rating right there. Oh my goodness. Anywho, I had a great time with this one. I'm surprised by the sentiment still being that people hate it, considering the phenomenal scores that's gotten it on the internet,
