Starting point is 00:01:15 The right stuff. Right stuff. Baby. The stuff new nightmares are made of. Shiny. Should we watch? Yeah. right here's what i'll say no matter what this is very clearly the second best nightmare movie
Starting point is 00:01:36 that's my that's yeah no it was and i love the um the special effects and the the effects like the practical effects i love the most that some of that had their langen camp langen camp that's a tough name heather langen camp what's up new line they're all new line cinema okay so We just watched West Craven's new nightmare. If you guys have thoughts, if you liked us, if you're listening on Apple or Spotify, five star, leave a comment if you're on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:02:12 We want to hear your guys' thoughts on all of this. Thank you for going on this journey with us. We are almost done with the journey. Almost. We still have our most embarrassing moment ahead with A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010, so make sure you tune in for that. What are your thoughts from Jump, Tara?
Starting point is 00:02:29 are you with me that this is the second best one or you still have to think about it more? Well, because we watch 2010s already, I really like the first one and the 2010. I did too, but everybody else hates that one. So I don't even know what to make it at. Maybe we only liked it because we thought it was in the 80s and it was so advanced. Did I love it or did I just like it? I'm having a hard time fully. Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Wait, I was having issues with it because they didn't do the practical stuff. that I thought they should have from the first one. So you might, you might, I might agree with you on this. This might be the second best one. I, you know, the only thing that I was a little disappointed by is that we didn't get as much horror-esque stuff. It took us a while to kind of get to Freddie, but I appreciated setting up the story and just getting to see Nancy and the kid and us being like, oh, all right, this is their
Starting point is 00:03:25 life together and the husband, well, I guess the husband died fairly. quickly we did get to see freddie in in there but it felt like this movie it just took more time in between the um in between the the setups like the horror setups like on the script um yeah i liked it i don't know why it felt like a little bit slower maybe in the beginning to me but um i still did uh great job on the practical effects and makeup like special effects on makeup The one thing that I did not like, but this is 1994. Roxy's trying to do remote stuff and she's losing it. The one thing that they did not do well.
Starting point is 00:04:11 You don't think it was post-credit? I wanted to go to the end. Oh, right. Let's see. That's what I was trying to do. Okay. But then you went away from it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And I started talking about sports. She failed. That's what you're going to do. I don't know here. You want to do it? Well, I don't think I'm much. What happened? Just fast forward.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Listen, practical stuff. I loved it. I love the bed stuff. I love all the practical stuff. The one thing I didn't really necessarily like, but it was 1994, so it's all good, was like that CGI with the fire when she's falling down. That didn't look very realistic to me.
Starting point is 00:04:48 I think the sets. It didn't look like CGI. It looked like drawn to me. Or drawn or what it was. Or like miniatures. I'm not sure. they some of that I was like all right the the doctor I liked her um kind of there was stuff that I was like why is she talking like that like I didn't really like sometimes I didn't
Starting point is 00:05:10 believe her I think because she thought that she was such an abusive mother who wasn't letting this kid sleep that she was being not nice but that's not a good thing to in memory of Greg Finnecca 1952 to 1994 I wonder if Greg maybe worked on the film I'll I will find out for us what it says on the end of that. She's going to look up, Greg. But I just, whatever, there are some actors in here that I, that, you know, side characters that I didn't, I was like, I don't know if I really believe him when they're speaking. But when Wes comes on there, I was like, yes, he's a, he's a dude I can get on board with.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Like, he's just speaking in a regular tone, just talking to her about what's going on. I found the story really interesting. I love that it's like play Nancy one last time and especially, when he writes it in there, thank you for doing it at the very end. It was cool to have that. That's cool. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:06:03 yeah, I agree. I think it was clever and the premise was cool and including Wes. Greg Fonseca was the production designer of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Coneheads and Wayne's World,
Starting point is 00:06:16 which is so cool. Wow. Yeah. That's pretty iconic. Do you think that it was actually West Craven? I don't know. We should look up a picture. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:06:27 because I have no idea. I don't know what he looks like. I just assume. I know what he looks like now, but like older, but it was a while ago, and it looked like that could have been him when he was younger. Yeah. Let's see. Oh, it's just called New Nightmare.
Starting point is 00:06:43 I thought it was called West Craven's New Nightmare. It's just called New Nightmare. Oh, okay. Well, that's what's titled on Netflix, so in case you guys look for it. Yeah, that is West Craven. Cool. Do you want to know some trivia about it? Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:06:55 No, you don't. No, I do. I definitely do Here we go In the film Freddie is depicted much closer to what West Craven
Starting point is 00:07:03 had originally intended for the character much more menacing much less comical with an updated attire and appearance however in 2015 before his death
Starting point is 00:07:13 he would admit he regretted changing his appearance and said if it ain't broke don't fix it which was why he kept ghost faces mask
Starting point is 00:07:21 the same in every screen movie okay so West Crame yeah they said So right before he died? Wow. I didn't know that. But also I was going to agree with that, that I was like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:35 His first, like the very first version of Freddie is pretty freaking creepy. And this one looks a little too polished. No, I get the comic. You don't think he kind of is comical, like Christmas colors and like kind of look goofy. He kind of, I get that. But I'm like, when he had, when I was like, oh, he's got some new fits on, he had the hat and the, the, the suede jacket or whatever that was. It was a nice wool. Navy jacket. I was like, why do you look so polished right now? I didn't like that. I was fine with like the kind
Starting point is 00:08:02 of goofy weird sweater because I just got used to it. And it was, it did throw me off a little bit, him looking polished in the hospital. He looked, remember that he in the hospital when he goes to try to get the kid. He has on a green, very nice suede hat and a wool, navy blue full on coat. But his skin is not like polished. His skin is not, no, no, no. His skin is not polished. He just looks like newer to me. Like, I don't know. Like a new nightmare? Like. New nightmare? Like. Wait, okay. Let me tell you some other stuff. Sue Garcia, who was raw at a nightmare on Elm Street, which I had said. And Tuesday night, who I didn't notice from Nightmare on Elm Street 4, the Dream Master, make appearances as themselves in the funeral scene. Director West Craven had intended to ask Johnny Depp, Glenn from the first film,
Starting point is 00:08:54 as well, but he never worked up the courage to ask him. After the film's release, they ran into each other and Craven asked Depp if he would have made an appearance in the movie. Depp said that he would have and that Craven should have asked him. It's so weird that they didn't speak, though, in the funeral scene, I wish they had.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Interesting. The television show appearance was inspired by a real encounter. According to West Craven, Robert England, and I did an appearance together on public television in San Francisco area. It was about whether this kind of movie was bad for children or not. There were parents in the audience
Starting point is 00:09:28 and then kids. All the kids leaped to their feet and started chanting. Freddy, Freddie, Freddy. I remember looking at the show host and the parents and they all looked horrified. That's funny. That's good. That's a good one. I like that. In reality, Heather Langenkamp's real husband, David
Starting point is 00:09:46 Leroy Anderson, is a special effects man as he is in this film. Oh, I love that. That's cool. That's awesome. The film is no opening type to blur the illusion of whether it's a film, a documentary, or something else altogether. Okay. In the ending credits, Freddie Kruger is credited as himself, even though Robert England reprises the role. And we missed that. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Huh. Okay. The basic premise of the film, Freddie invading the real world and haunting the actors and crew responsible for a nightmare on Elm Street was originally intended to be used for a nightmare on Elm Street 3, Dream Warriors, inspired by the movie Return to Horror Hunt. Wow, I don't know that movie. Do you know? Returned Over High from 1987, but the idea was rejected by the studio at the time.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Oh, okay. All the earthquake sequences in the film were actually filmed one month prior to the L.A. Quake of 94. Oh. Real quake struck only two weeks before the end of filming. Subsequently, a unit was sent out to film drive-by footage of actual quake damages, damaged areas of the city before the end of filming. The cast and crew believed that the earthquake scenes that were filmed before the real quake struck
Starting point is 00:10:58 were perhaps a bit overdone, but when viewed after the real quake hit, all were frightened by the realism of it. Wow. That's wild. Okay. That's crazy. I'll give you a couple more. Before making the movie, West Craven watched all of a nightmare on Elm Street films,
Starting point is 00:11:15 but by the time he was finished, he claimed that he could not follow the storyline at all. he further regards the sequels to be weak compared to his original masterpiece. His original is the masterpiece. I wouldn't say that he's wrong. Oh, Wes Craven's daughter, Jessica Craven, appears as a nurse. That's cool. Oh, is she the one that's like, you don't do that? Because I thought that lie delivery was weird.
Starting point is 00:11:44 I don't know. I can try to look for you. No, no, no. I just, that was a weird delivery. Um, yeah, I'm not sure. What did I just say? Her name was what Craven? Jessica Craven? Uh, I don't know. Okay. But, oh, I want to see where this little kid is from. Okay, so the kid Dylan, his name is Miko Hughes. And let's see, what did he do back in the day that we knew him? Yeah, like his little kid. Yeah, okay. So his first movie was Pet Cemetery in 89, which I didn't see. Okay. Then he did unspeakable Ax, which is a TV movie out of this world, which was a show that he was in an episode of
Starting point is 00:12:24 Sister Kate, two episodes, Kindergarten Cop, which I didn't... Kindergarten cop. I never saw that. Yeah, I think I saw that. The Schwarzenegger? Yeah. I never saw that. Babes, Beverly Hills 90210.
Starting point is 00:12:36 He was an episode, Dugie Houser, Burden of Proof, just a couple episodes of all this stuff. Let me see if there's anything else that I really recognized him from. Oh, he was in an episode of The Nanny. I did love that show. Copson Robertson's The New Nightmare. So he did a lot before A New Nightmare. Oh, he was in 12 episodes of Full House, which I watched all of. So probably.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Maybe that's why. Apollo 13, he was in. He was in. Such a good movie. Yeah. Wow. So this kid worked. He works.
Starting point is 00:13:07 So many TV shows. So many TV shows. He's great. I mean, he's an episode of Baywatch, which is hysterical. Oh, look at him go. For him to be that young and that believable. great job kid really good what ended up happening i want to know more he did an episode of hey arnold so and it looks like he did do some voice stuff he was uncredited in tropic thunder
Starting point is 00:13:31 oh great great funny film oh okay well that's a lot all right yeah that is a lot so i liked the way it looked sometimes it aired a little soap opera for me like the way it sounded sometimes it went a little soap opera for me, but these are fun and they're supposed to be like that. Like over the top, really like intense. The performances were great. I think that Heather is such a talent, man. Like, just so, so good.
Starting point is 00:13:58 I liked the storyline for me. This is clearly sitting in the number two spot right now. And I feel like West Craven just understands these characters in a way and this franchise in a way that nobody else does, obviously. Yeah. I agree because I was really trying to think, like I have a terrible memory. And so it was hard for me to think about. two, three, four, five. I'm like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:18 But I do agree that this one and the story stands up, especially when we get to the end and that sort of switch at the end where he writes her that note, I was like, ah, this is really smart. My favorite shot is when she's, that's when it really picked up for me is when she's going through the slide. And it goes from the slide. She goes through all these environments from the blue slide. It swims it. There's like soil falling on her and then it's water. And then she comes out of the mouth and that mouth that's what he looked like at the end the mouth that she flies out of it looked like a dragon weird thing to me but when freddie is burning he turns into that face that she flies out of and i just made that connection now that i'm like oh gross um but that was
Starting point is 00:15:07 my favorite shot in the movie and that's when i was like oh it's really picking up now like it really grabbed my attention to me when it really started to pick up is when is when dylan started to cross the street. The freeway. Yeah. I mean, it wasn't like it was dull before that, but that's like from that point on, I mean, I couldn't even speak. I was like, oh my God, the tension was so high with him. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, that was a, that was a tough one. That, that effect there with like him up and down, I didn't, I wasn't in love with it. It still looked good, but there was just some, some like graphic special effects, the CGI, whatever they were doing that I wasn't in love with. But all of the practical stuff and the make
Starting point is 00:15:45 was great. It was awesome. And the set design, great job. Let's GTFO. Yeah. Because we liked this one. We did. So I'm sad that we liked it because I'm worried we won't like another one. But don't forget to keep watching us do this franchise, especially as the next, or I think two from now, they'll see on Nightmare and Elm Street, 2010. And us make fools of ourselves. If you like what we're doing over here and you're enjoying the she-jacks and scream queens, then please make sure. you check out we did we've been doing the chucky franchise which we're absolutely loving we did the purge franchise and we're also soon going to be looking into some merch situations because you and friday the 13th well that's what it's coming up next yeah we're going to be doing that for sure
Starting point is 00:16:32 and possibly paranormal possibly that too yeah and you guys have been asking us also about certain tv shows so the more you watch the more you like the more you comment the more runtime is than the more likely we can do whatever the hell we want on this channel and Greg can't tell us nothing. Yeah, because when you guys comment and you tell us stuff, like we tell them too, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:52 They take it to heart. We love you guys. Yeah, Greg told us that we connect very well with people. I'm taking that to the bank, yo. All right, we'll see you next time. Later, rejects. Fleb, Doran. The freaking words for Flev.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Words for Flev. You know, John, I once rap battled him. You rap battled? I rap, battled Flev. What was it like? Did you diss him hard? I dissed him so hard. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:17:22 He cried. He cried. He ran home. Oh, no. And then he wrote down some raps as well. Okay, okay. So you battled him and then he wrote you a song. He wrote me a song.
Starting point is 00:17:35 But what was surprising was it ended up being a love song. Oh, wow. Oh, that's a good subversion. Complimentary song. That's clever. It was shocking to learn. And I was like, this is. bizarre. I'd never thought that insulting
Starting point is 00:17:47 you in front of a room full of people. White people. It was a white rat battle. In front of a room full of people that it was specifically raised. That's another resort. That's a tangent for a different day,
Starting point is 00:18:04 Fleb. We're on topic. And then I was like surprised that Fleb would just be so receptive. That's how Flev is. His love language is hate language. And I went to visit his home at his trailer park home And I found out his parents are very abusive towards him So really he went there to lose
Starting point is 00:18:26 He wanted to be insulted Because he gets off on that He is a sick man Sadomasochist So then the next rap battle we had It ended up being an intervention with all the white people All the white people with the Romanian trailer park You needed therapy.
Starting point is 00:18:45 We all came together and got a giant notebook out and just listened to your problems. Flev, I'm sorry for the pain that you had to endure, but just know this. It was bars. We all have kings like that, too. We're all kinky. And you could find someone for you who can fulfill those kings. Yeah. It's a brave new world.
Starting point is 00:19:06 And sometimes you find that when you are in a healing therapy session. via your therapist like me I married my therapist who knows you better and who can bring those those bars those pearls of wisdom out of you
Starting point is 00:19:25 no one no one no I'm waiting for a good button here haven't found it you know I'm searching I'm sure Flev has lots of buttons he seems like a guy
Starting point is 00:19:34 would wear a rock a cool button down silk shirt yeah yeah this is your button this is the button I'm
