Episode Date: July 3, 2025WHAT A REINVENTION!! Wrong Turn Full Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Visit https://huel.com/rejects to get 15% off your order Now that they've seen the first 6, Roxy Striar & T...ara Erickson venture deeper into the Appalachian wilderness for their Wrong Turn 2021 Reaction, Breakdown, and Spoiler-Filled Review — the seventh installment in the long-running franchise, directed by Mike P. Nelson (The Domestics) and written by original series creator Alan B. McElroy (Halloween 4, Spawn). Ditching the inbred cannibals of earlier entries, this reinvention introduces a new threat: a secretive, self-sufficient cult called The Foundation. Charlotte Vega (The Lodgers, Warrior Nun) stars as Jen Shaw, a young woman who sets off on a hiking trip through the Appalachian Trail with her boyfriend Darius (Adain Bradley – The 100, All American) and their close-knit group of friends. What starts as an adventurous detour quickly spirals into a brutal fight for survival when the group encounters a deadly community living off the grid and abiding by ancient, merciless laws. Bill Sage (We Are What We Are, American Psycho) gives a chilling performance as John Venable, the cold-blooded leader of The Foundation. Also featured are Matthew Modine (Stranger Things, Full Metal Jacket) as Jen’s father Scott Shaw, who launches a desperate search for his daughter, and Daisy Head (Shadow and Bone, Underworld: Blood Wars) as Edith, a high-ranking cult member. With harrowing traps, underground trials, and twisted moral dilemmas, the film reimagines the Wrong Turn formula with fresh brutality and thought-provoking questions about civilization versus survivalism. Iconic and highly searched scenes include the spiked log ambush, the courtroom execution sequence, and the shocking ending that takes place during the end credits. Join Roxy & Tara as they dig into the blood-soaked reinvention, dissect the film’s major deviations from franchise tradition, and debate its place among modern horror reboots. More on them in just a bit.
So good.
We love you guys.
Let's freaking get to this, shall we?
No, don't turn off on me.
Don't do that.
So this is a remake, right?
Of the original?
I guess so.
I guess we'll see.
Three, two, one.
Wow, that was great.
Thank you to Prepper for helping edit down these highlights.
We super appreciate you.
Also, Eric at Nerd Kuranik.
I think he's been doing some of the wrong turns, too.
Please like, comment, subscribe.
When you do, ring the bell, ring the bell.
So you're notified of all the videos we are dropping.
I think that's all.
Oh, Apple, Spotify, if you're listening on there,
give us five stars.
Come on now.
Like us, five stars, all the juice.
I think that's all, I said all the stuff.
How do you feel, Ross?
This was, I know we both love this.
I can't believe that this movie was so good.
Okay, here's how I feel.
I got this movie was a genuinely great horror movie.
I thought that this was the best of the franchise.
I even think that this was maybe better done than the first one was.
Because the budget is higher, it seemed at least to me,
and we're using different technology because it's so many years later.
At least, at the very least, it rivals the first one.
I agree.
Shocked that I haven't heard anybody talk about this movie ever.
Didn't even know this existed.
And I was expecting this to be kind of like the other ones were two through six, where it's raunchy, it's vulgar, it's wild, it's wackadoodle.
This was not any of those things.
All of that being said, I don't fully feel this was a wrong turn movie.
Right.
And I understand that we saw a tiny bit of cannibalism at the end, but it wasn't our big bads were not cannibals.
and I know that they probably wanted to use the IP
to get butts in seats
or get people to rent this
but I wonder if they would have been significantly better off
with this not being part of this franchise
because I think that this movie would have had legs
and stood on its own
and was it really, they made interesting choices
of great characters that I really cared about.
They paced out their death swell.
I loved the father-daughter angle.
I think the chemistry was really strong
I just really, really liked this movie.
So I kind of wish that it was called Appalachian.
Yeah.
Or like, you know, like something else.
Something that had nothing to do with this franchise
because if you go into this thinking,
you are getting three fingers and you are getting a cannibal movie,
that is not what this is.
I agree with you on that.
How did you feel?
I mean, I really liked it.
I totally agree with you on that.
They would have had to take out that joke at the end
where she says,
brothers chose a which that was their head on to wrong turn obviously where she's like oh the brothers
chose some movie about hillbilly cannibals and I thought oh ha ha that's the one thing that ties us
besides the two seconds of those people eating that one body that ties us actually to this
franchisers made me think okay they know where they're at because I just thought could they
get away with the title that was wrong turn and just be like oh we didn't we're not thinking
about those movies but I'm like no they were there obviously you had to be aware of
of it. I really liked it. I mean, especially from the top, the fact that I am not laughing or
thinking about the acting or having to like comment on it is really great because it was all really
subtle and grounded. It just felt like we were living with these people and especially the way
that I think that it was directed. The camera stuff right off the bat. When that tree comes
down, that was such a good stunt scene, such good.
editing that at that point, because it's the beginning of the movie, you know, okay, I feel like I can trust this director.
What about when the chain is pulled into the ground?
Totally.
I mean, the kills in this, there was not one where I was like, nah, it looked amazing.
I agree.
They all looked really good.
And I think, like, from the top with that log coming down is when with a big thing like that, when it looks good, and I'm thinking, wow, the pacing is good, this is all cut really well.
it's sort of like
lets the audience at ease
because you go, okay, I feel like maybe now
I can fully trust the director so that
when we get a kill, we get a good
stunt, it's probably going to look good and we're going to
believe it, which we did.
And you're totally
right about, I mean, all
the kill. I mean, him bashing
well, when we saw
his face of the teeth in the thing,
wow, that was great.
I think that was a really good practical
practical head and then even bashing the head and we got to see one part of it caved and then it cuts away
and then we see it again caved even more which i thought was a really great fake head how about her
killing her friend in the tunnel totally like there was so many unbelievable deaths yeah which i thought was
really good i thought it was great writing when she killed her friend because i thought yeah
if we're going to go there let's freaking go there because we've set up this
this character to go, I will give you my body, I will become your wife, I will play this
freaking role. But the second that I get an opportunity, I'm freaking out of here. So I would
see her as a girl who's like, she has already just lived through such crap that of course
she's going to take a bullet and waste it, although I don't think it was a waste. Like on her
friend, just so he doesn't, I guess, have to just live. I don't know in this whole, I, I, I,
I'm a little bit with you.
I'm like, well, you could have taken him with you.
But I understand why she couldn't because she was trying to sneak out.
But I do think that there's a world in which, okay, the police don't want you to get them.
But like, you could try to leave him alive to go back to get him.
Like, and not only just him, but Darius.
Like, you're just really, I know Darius made his choice, but he's also not right in the head right now.
Totally.
He was starved for a week in a hole, watched his friends die, doesn't know what, you.
He was like, what will your life be back on the outside?
It's like, what?
Yeah.
Hanging with my siblings and chilling with my dad in a beautiful home.
What are you talking about, dude?
Totally.
And I know that they set that up well because they told us what he wants to do in the sustainability field.
Right.
Which is brilliant.
The backstories, it was a perfect amount.
And then us also thinking that these guys at the bar were the biggest dicks, but they were really trying to beat him up to save the dad's life.
Great twist.
There's so many.
I wonder if this.
was initially not written as a wrong turn movie.
That's what I'm, that's what I'm like kind of.
Let me give my phone.
I'm going to look up some trivia.
Except for like the head nods to the cannibalism.
But I do think the really great twists in here is number one when they take off their
mask, not cannibals, totally normal looking people.
And they're saying, we don't have any disease.
We're running a great town.
We don't hurt people.
Did you see us mess with you or we're going to harm you?
And we find out they're trying to save the guy.
And then the second twist is like what you said with the bar people coming to save him saying, you know, I lost my nephew in here, which is completely unexpected.
The fact that they gave him a beating just to get him to get out of town.
And then I first, I was like, I don't believe that.
But then I was like, oh, no, I get, I do.
Because they, they're very aware of how dangerous the, the fellowship is or the foundation, the foundation.
The fellowship of the foundation of the foundation of the foundation of the foundation of the foundation of the foundation of the foundation of the foundation of it.
rings a freaking cult man it's a cult and at first also when we start doing those trials i'm like okay so
maybe they have some kind of law and order but then they're like he was trespassing he was this
and they must have taken the phones too so and they probably were in charge of the rolling the log
reject nation life's only gotten busier filming working out getting a new studio all the moving
but i've learned that when i stay consistent on what i put in my body i perform better across the board
no joke mentally physically all in all in case you didn't catch the memo back in january i weighed
218 pounds as of late i'm down to 173 here's a latest photo right here i'm working on body

All right.
Let me see what I can find first because this movie has left me extremely curious.
Matthew Modine's daughter, Ruby Modine, performs the haunting version of this land is your land during the credits.
That's really cool.
That's awesome.
Not connected to any of the direct-to-video sequels of the original wrong turn.
Yes, we know.
First wrong-turn movie to be filmed in the United States, parts one, two, and four were filmed in Canada, parts three, five, and
six were filmed in Bulgaria.
Wow.
Although this is the seventh wrong-turn film, it is a reboot of the wrong-turn series.
Yeah, so it is a reboot, which does allow them to make some different choices, but when
you ask what wrong-turn is, it's a cannibal movie, so it's like, that's interesting still.
Totally.
In Australia, it has been advertised as wrong-turned, the foundation.
Hmm.
Okay.
Okay, let's see.
Matthew Modin did the bulk of his own stunts.
That's pretty cool.
it was shot in 26 days
let's go to some spoiler ones
when Jen tells her father
that movie night will feature
a film about inbred
cannibals and he answers again it clearly
pokes fun at the antagonist of previous
six movies before this reboot
so the again part yeah
first wrong turn movie is to not
feature deformed cannibals
the body count is 11
excluding Jen's imagined
massacre of her family
okay it's pretty much all we have
Let me go and look at who did this.
Mike P. Nelson, who also did the VHS-85 movie.
Okay.
The domestics, which I don't know.
The retirement of Joe Corderoi, which I also don't know.
He seems to have some horror stuff under his belt.
And I really like this, so I would be willing to watch whatever he did.
The writer of this, oh, I remember I told you this, wrote Halloween 4, spawn, Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek, Strange New World.
Okay, so that's why this script was so super, super, super solid, vampire diaries.
Great twists.
Smart characters.
Alan B. McElroy, great job with this.
We really enjoyed this script.
Yeah, I really did.
I'm just so glad that you were following my rules.
And yes, I call them my rules, where they take a freaking weapon and they're smart enough to finish freaking kills.
Like, just thank you.
Because, like, horror movies, they don't do that.
Or they'll, like, stab and they'll leave the night.
and like run and I hate that and I just love that this girl took control like you said you're like
that's your kind of character I was like yes it is finish the freaking kill be smart enough to go
I'll take you with you and it's me thinking and then we're going to kill him right and then I thought
no maybe we're not it that was going to be real sad and then when you see that the van moving what a
great ending what a great and we lock it off it's a oneer we move we freaking crash we know
what's going on she comes out she's just like going to ham on that guy
I mean, I love it.
I'm like, it's terrible for her,
but I also like that she ended up with the little girl
because she wouldn't take her with her anyway.
And I think even the little girl saying,
no, she didn't want to go with her.
She probably kind of did, but wasn't quite sure at the time.
For sure.
She was scared.
Yeah, totally.
When she ran off.
I just can't believe we didn't see what happened with the boyfriend,
whatever his name was.
Darius.
He's just in it, man.
He's Colton.
Do we have Patreon questions?
Oh, good question.
let's see thanks for that reminder curious what you guys have for those you guys who don't know
our patrons get to ask us questions and we have been loving in the reviews seeing what it is that
you guys have to say to us and trying to answer the questions as best as we can sometimes
you guys know more than we do all right we got a couple questions first one is from paval
catch mark i really just have one question for terran roxy why just dot dot why
Well, I'm pretty sure I only watched wrong turn, wrong turn two, threw up and never looked back.
Didn't even realize there were seven of them.
Are you genuinely enjoying it on some level or is it just Greg testing you?
Lots of love, good vibes from Sunny Pullin to you both.
This movie was excellent and I definitely recommend, like if somebody said to me,
which two wrong turns should I watch the franchise?
I would say one in seven.
Exactly.
So I'm shocked to be able to say that.
And there were some fun ones that we enjoyed along the way for sure.
But also, yeah, Greg is testing us always.
always. But I think you saw me at two. We completely get it. There was a fun thing about tearing up body parts until we got to five, which I really enjoyed. I would definitely recommend watching this one. It's a really legitimate, great horror film with a great script. It's a good movie. Totally. I really liked it. All right. Our last one, Kev B. What did you think about this movie and how it handled the whole foundation cult compared to the
earlier wrong-term films, did it change what you expected going in?
Yeah, completely changed it.
I think they handled it really well.
I liked a lot of what they did.
I just, again, I kind of wish this movie was called The Foundation.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't think it needs to be connected to wrong turn.
But now that it is, I would love to see a sequel to this.
Me too.
Me too.
What happens when your leader doesn't come back?
Does Darius take over?
Does she have to go against Darius?
Does she try to get them out?
Yeah.
Does she like go back to that town, back to the bar and says, we're going to take them all out?
Do we find out that that person who owned the place that they were staying actually did escape from there?
Does Ruthie try to help?
Like there's so many things that we could explore.
Oh my God.
It'd be so cool if she helped train the town in like a montage of how to fight.
And then we all go up there.
We kill the mountain people.
Totally.
Holy junk.
We do them all top cocktails.
But we can't kill Darius or maybe.
Maybe we do.
Maybe we do.
Maybe we just go, you made you choice, buddy.
And maybe the nephew's up there, the nephew of that kid, of the guy who saved us,
who said six years ago.
Oh, yeah, because you were like, that could be our nephew.
And yeah, dude.
They did set some good ground for it maybe to be a sequel.
We'll have to see.
It's been five years, bro.
It's been a minute.
And Nancy Nainer, if you're still doing the casting for this, you know who we are, for sure.
we don't know for sure she knows who we are but we wish i mean she's got a she doesn't but like now
you do all right dog so tag nancy nainer we love you guys uh do all the right things like
subscribe leave a comment uh love you see on the next one
