X-Men casting expands gorilla grog looks freaking weird and we might talk about some Matt Reeves information and expanding Batman universe and that's this thing going around on Twitter about Zach Greger when it comes to Resident Evil fascinating I'm excited to hear the I've seen like anecdotal but I don't know if you have the exact quote yeah I got a whole one-minute video okay so we got stuff we got stuff to talk about I'm excited about all of it
Greg. I'm excited to you. How are you feeling, Koi?
You know, I was so burnt out this week, and then I hit a, I hit a when you have been
maybe the most helpful at reframing an abundance of overwhelm of any of my friends of late,
and I appreciate that. I've been drowning, and you've helped be my life vest.
Oh, well, thank you. I feel better now than I have all week, to be honest.
Well, I've been filming a lot with you this week.
That's, we're hanging out.
And it's been fun filming with you.
I think that's what's helping is like, I'll look at my schedule and be like, dear God, it's not possible.
And there will be like four hours into a six hour day.
I'll be like, guess I'm fine.
And then at night I'll be like, I've made a mistake.
Like I just, I hit like a wind and then I burn out.
And then I like, I fell asleep in my car yesterday.
Oh my God.
Like I drove home and I was like, I'm tired.
And then I got, I went and I was like on my phone and I parked before I went to that.
And then I woke up and I was like, oh, fuck.
So I don't know how long I passed out.
I don't know.
I'm just so tired.
I wasn't so tired.
I shouldn't have drove, but the heat of sitting in the car plus the tire woke up and went,
this isn't sustainable.
Well, you look alert right now.
I'm fucking amped, Greg.
Yeah, well, there's things to be.
There's stuff to be amped.
I love news.
I love the news.
Any kind of news.
Any kind of news.
Anything.
Straight arrow news.
Media news.
Hey, whatever we talk.
World War is killing us all.
I fall.
It's news.
Thrilled about it.
We got an angel.
We got an angel, people.
We have ourselves an official X-Men casting, apparently.
I don't know. I saw a new rock stars post and I went, must be real, but we have a Hollywood reporter post.
That's when I waited. I saw the THHR and I was like, they probably checked. Yeah. So I, I never looked. I did a whole social media video and I never looked up how to say his last name.
German. I was way. It is German. I thought it was germane. And I'mer off said, also German. Oh, it's awesome. Not ASA? Nope. That's it. Asa German. Okay. Oh my gosh. Anyway,
Asa German.
Asa German is going to be our new angel.
And right when I saw this, the thing that I did not mention in the social media video is how from the cast members that I am familiar with the work of, I'm seeing a pattern of casting actors who have played characters before where there's like a presenting surface performance, the personality.
But there has to be something else going on completely underneath.
Like that's been the biggest thing that I've raved about of why I think Indianavarady is rogue.
What we saw at least an obsession, for example, is a great way of why I think rogue casting is good.
Why I love Kit as Cyclops from what I've seen in Heart Stopper, especially of like, here's who he is on the surface, but here's who's going to be underneath the surface.
Adam Driver.
The contradiction.
Yeah, the contradiction.
And that's so much of our mutant characters that has to be.
Because they have to be public facing, but also going through all the traumas of the world hating them.
They have to present like hero.
They are heroes, but they have to present like spokespeople.
Yeah.
Because that's not every character in the Marvel world.
Not every, like, that's part of what makes Iron Man so fun to watch because of who he puts on the surface.
But you know who he really is underneath.
But then you got people like Captain America who's like, yeah, who is on the surface is who he is.
Yeah, exactly.
So I'm loving the way they're doing the casting with everyone and what we saw with him of what he did in GenV.
Just as that Sam character seems like the audition for what would arc into Archangel, you know.
I'm glad he gets an arc.
Yeah.
He actually gets to do what he was going to do with season three, I think.
Yeah.
So what's your, what are your, what are the things that you would, I love asking you these questions because I've only like in the past year beginning into a lot more X-Men comics.
What would you say?
I feel like Warren Worthy is a lot easier to kind of get down of like what to narrow it down with.
And I, and I feel like the X-Men the last stand.
I can see what they were attempting.
Attempting.
There was an attempt.
They didn't get down.
like the confident swagger Warren guy.
Yeah.
It was just like emo moody.
Who's that actor?
Ben Foster.
Ben Foster.
I love,
but he got like five minutes.
He got like five minutes.
It wasn't great.
But what would you say are the qualities of Warren?
Angel,
not Archangel,
angel.
And how do you feel like ASA German will embody this?
So what I hope they do and how I would make Angel more interesting than he sometimes is,
admittedly.
He's a character that kind of needed the Archangel arc.
Because that's-
That's why everyone talks about it.
Yeah, it's not necessarily a good thing that you're founding X-Men.
You're like, you know, when he gets interesting 20 years later.
When Apocalypse takes over him, that's when he gets to be a character.
But what I would do with Angel, and they've kind of, there's inklings of this in the comic books,
is Angel to me represents the fact that even if you're rich, you're not going to escape persecution.
Yeah.
And even if you look like a literal biblical figure, there's still going to see you as a demon.
I would lean into the fact that there is nothing more,
he's the epitome of white privilege.
And so I hope they make the character the example of no one gets out of being a mutant unscathed.
Because not only is he the character that represents, you know,
this infinite ability to buy your way out of situations and solve every problem.
Like in our reality, enough money gets you out of everything.
There aren't consequences for rich people.
And I think a great example of this would be to show that there is a physical manifestation of not being able to get out of it.
And even the thing that makes you an entity of salvation, of hope, this image of like the Alex Daraas painting of angel of like holding a baby and like saving someone, there's still people that are going to fear that.
And I think it'll be really interesting.
I don't know if Marvel would ever touch on this,
but the idea of people
being afraid of even the thing that they
see as their savior.
And I think that, you know, down the line,
Nightcrawler obviously is this
very altruistic and
incredibly charming, demonic-looking thing.
That is very Catholic.
That's Catholic, and that represents
like absolution and
why is it that people are still coming at me?
Like, I'm a demon when I've proven myself,
I think it'd be really interesting to do the other way
with the angel from the jump and be basically
this is someone who can't escape persecution, even though all of the things that are about him having the money to buy himself out of problems, looking like a feathered angel, he's still getting persecuted.
And I've always wanted to see an angel story that dealt with the fact that he is the epitome of all the things that people think they want.
People think they want money.
Didn't help him.
People think they want flight.
He's got it, but it's visually something you can't escape.
People love angels, but not this one because he's a mutant.
And I would tell that story.
And I think ASA is so interestingly distant.
There's something about him that's like removed.
And I think there's a cool opportunity there to make Warren Worthington the third kind of isolated in his wealth and kind of remove from all this.
So he has to learn to be a team player, but he also has that kind of statuesque ability to be like if you see an angel, it's just crazy.
Yeah.
And he also has just by his nature a bit of that.
Yeah.
Like I've met the GenV cast and he is.
You met Aeson.
Yeah, he stands out.
Even amongst, like it's a very young, beautiful next wave actors cast.
Dude stands out even amongst them because he's just got this ethereal.
Not quite, Stoics the wrong word, but like he's got a thing that just puts him over here.
Well, Stoic can often feel like devoid of personality.
He doesn't have that.
No.
It's something else.
It's like a, it's like a ethereal.
Yeah, there's an ethereal silence.
Yeah.
Like Keanu.
Yeah.
Like,
Keanu's got a thing
that's not stoic
and it's not like off-putting.
It's different though.
But that's why I like watching him
because there's a darkness
underneath.
And it is funny thinking about the
arc that does eventually happen
with Archangel
because that is like the jump
of the Sam character in Gen V.
So in Gen V
he's got like this crazy superpower
and then they literally turn him into a weapon.
Yeah.
And he's also in season two,
I started feeling like we started getting more of like the sweetness of him.
You see some of that in season one,
but he's something he kind of feared a little bit more in season one.
But I love that he can be someone who can be genuine and endearing.
Yeah.
But then not know what might come next from the guy.
Like Angel.
I think he's a really good cast.
And it's part of the fun of it is not that he's just going to replicate what he did.
Because they are different people.
Yeah.
That Warren and Sam are not exactly a one-to-one.
And what you talked about the privilege side, I think is one of the,
the more interesting aspects that he should have the easiest life. All things considered,
he should have the easiest life. He's good looking, he's charming, he's got the money.
He's of the third. Yeah, he's the third. It's in the name, you know? That to me was such a thing
in the 60s that they didn't touch on. Yeah. And then, but it's still, it's, it's unavoidable when
you are a mutant. Now, my, there's, there's one creeping concern of popping up here because
what's the director's name again? I totally forgot his name. Jake Schreier. Jake Schreier. Matt Schackman
did Wanda Vision.
Jake Shrier did this.
Okay.
So Jake Schreier, even with Thunderbolts,
I remember that being a pretty great movie
that managed to handle a big ensemble.
That was also characters
that we had already been familiar with
for the most part.
These are a lot of main characters.
And if there's anything the X-Men movies
have gotten Flack for in the Fox films
is not feeling properly serviced,
each one of these characters.
Now, I don't imagine.
Imagine that the first movie, they'll be able to hit the nail on the head with everybody.
There's got to be a couple of casualties in the department of, okay, maybe they didn't get so much spotlight or maybe they were underserved because of runtime, et cetera.
So I want to look.
Who are all the cast members right now?
We've got eight, I think now.
Oh, my God.
Really?
Okay.
Who's the main team?
We got Professor X.
Well, we got Professor X.
Gene and Scott are going to be the leads, finally.
Okay.
We've got Storm.
Storm, who I hope is the other team leader, but that's as we grow.
Yeah.
Rogue, I think, is going to start bad.
Okay.
So I don't know if she'll be on the team in the beginning.
Emma Frost.
Is he the other going to go with that?
I think they should.
I think I think that this, this cast is so big.
Okay.
I think that Emma Frost is going to be the teacher at a rival school.
So she's not going to be part of the equation.
Yeah.
I don't see her being part of like the lineup of going into the team and going
really sully it.
Yeah.
So we're talking about the characters of like when Professor X is going.
X men, go out.
Yeah.
I think.
me my X-Men is going to be the
core 5 plus storm
I think they're going to end up casting
Iceman I think they're going to be casting Beast
and I think that Adam Driver's
not part of that and I think that
Emma is going to be a rival school
yeah I wouldn't worry about Nathaniel Essex being
the gym teacher yeah but yeah
I think I think to me my X-Men is going to be
three dudes three ladies
and that is the
class it's going to be X-Men first class to six
and I think Rogue is a is a later
addition she's the third
woman. Because if you look at
the original X-Men, it's like four dudes and
Jean. I think it's going to be
four dudes
Storm and
Gene with Rogue joining.
So seven, because that's math.
It's a lot of people.
Yeah. Without the image, I thought it was
six, but it's seven because I wasn't getting for Iceman.
I'm not saying the movie's going to be bad.
I feel like it'll be a good movie.
And even if they start
off Rogue Good, I think there's a reason they introduced her
with everyone else because we all know Rogue will eventually
be good. And I had a sense of a reason that even if she's bad in this one, like they just did a
movie where Gene Gray was bad and then she becomes good. And so if they do a similar thing,
if they do that approach, she'll eventually be a part of the actual lineup of the main X-Men who go
out into the field. So my question would be, now that we have so many X-Men who are cast,
who do you feel like are the ones we should focus on? Gene Scott Storm. Okay. And then the other
ones, I'm not, not like you don't focus on them, but at least set up some stuff that you know
we can get more of in the next movie.
When you watch Guardians of the Galaxy, it's like six leads, but you know Star Lord and
Gamora the most.
And then Rocket is this great undercurrent that you realize he's the lead over time, right?
Like, Rocket's got a lot of screen time, but you wouldn't say he's the lead of the first film.
Yeah, you don't get the background on Rocket.
You get to, you get to really know Rockets personality.
Yeah.
Of like he's more than just this sardonic asshole who wants money.
You get to see his heart.
Slow burn.
So, yeah, I feel like that's what we got to see at least with everybody.
is the three-dimensional personality,
even if you don't get the full background.
And that's why I'm saying Guardians,
I think that handles team well.
And I think that we don't really have a comp outside of that.
True.
Because like you said,
Thunderbolts,
we knew the characters before.
But then some people,
I felt it too,
that like a couple,
a few of them were not really that well served.
Yeah,
I agree.
But the good news is that much like the Thunderbolts already being known,
everyone knows the X-Men to a point.
Sure.
The benefit of this is you start with the foundation,
and then you can grow on it.
And like Cyclops,
even if he's not been served well in movies
at least you know who he is.
So it's just building on the foundation
making it finally good.
Storm has not been served well in movies,
but everybody knows who Storm is.
So you don't have to do a full,
you know, like explainer.
It's just giving quality context
instead of like,
guys, these are mutants.
Like we don't need Xavier
to open every movie with like,
the mutant gene like they used to have to do
because we've got that.
I still think we should get special presentations
at least for Storm.
I'd like a movie for Storm.
I think Gene getting started
as a good head start for her.
and Cyclops.
I think Cyclops's origin is,
I mean,
I didn't realize how few people
knew it even in the comic book space.
I made a video about Cyclops's origin.
A lot of people didn't realize
he had head trauma that makes him
unable to control his optic blast.
Oh,
didn't know that.
Exhibit A.
So like everyone can traditionally control the mutation,
right?
Otherwise,
not every,
not like fully,
but like the ability to manipulate
your mutation is part of gaining your powers.
Some people can't because as they activate like,
you know,
the power and that's why X-Men come in and control.
But like,
the physical ability,
to learn that is more common than not.
Cyclops has a physical handicap that prevents it,
which I've always thought was a really cool element to the character
because he was in a plane accident
and he had head trauma that took away his ability
to actually control his optic glass.
So he's got...
Oh, wait, that's coming back from here.
I actually think the show...
I could be wrong, but...
Evolution might have dealt with it.
That's exactly the show.
I was about to sign.
Because X-Men did not...
90 shows about...
So he's either got a thing in his fist
or the thing in the visor,
and he controls it physically, right?
Yeah.
I've always thought that was a really cool way
to show the strength and a handicap.
Because even when he goes to Krakawa,
in Krakawa,
they regrow mutants, right?
Mutants are, if they're killed,
they get regrown in pods.
They're immortal.
He, as a leader,
chooses to keep that handicap
because it makes him more capable.
He decides that's part of who he is.
It makes him someone that empathize.
It makes him someone that he's trained for that.
I think it's integral that Cyclops has that decision to make.
No movie,
and most shows haven't done that.
So, like,
they need that shit.
storm needs to have a fucking arc like i think those are important elements and i'm agreeing with you seven
is a lot of characters so i think special presentations i think you know the movie's gonna have a lot to do
how they'll handle that i'm trusting them i mean i haven't seen shit they just cast them but it's stacked
and you know there's still like a couple more oh for sure um well you know what is actually
it just dawned on me right now and i really don't mean this as a disrespect i genuinely don't
I'm so excited that ourselves and so many other fans are excited for an X-Men movie
that does not have Wolverine in it.
Dude, it's such a kid.
It's kind of insane.
When we watch all the X-Men movies is the start of our Road to Doomsday.
I was surprised at how X-Men first class how, like Logan is a whole separate entity
of film.
It's like something else.
But if you remove Logan from the equation and you just look at the X-Men movies, all of them,
I was like X-Men first class.
And it's like, it's a comfortable number one for me.
And I didn't expect to be saying that, but easily, binging them.
I was like, yeah, definitely X-Men first class.
And that one only has a huge Jackman cameo.
Right.
But the movies, like you've talked about plenty of times, have become Wolverine and the X-Men.
And then after the movies, they really started to embrace that in like the shows and a lot of different spaces.
It's Wolverine and the X-Men.
And it's awesome to see how popular and iconic Wolverine has become.
and synonymous with Hugh Jackman.
I appreciate it.
Yeah.
But it's always been so much more
than Wolverine at the X-Men.
X-Men First Class really showed that.
And part of the bummer of that
with X-Men First Class
is it wasn't that big of a hit.
And probably because it didn't have Wolverine
it at the time.
So if you start there, you're putting yourself
in a hole again.
Because yes, you should not.
I know they had X-Men the last stand
in X-Men origin,
so there was already a little bit of blowback
that was happening with the X-Men franchise
at the time.
But it's like, let's face facts.
If Wolverine was in it,
it probably would have made more money if he was one of the main characters.
So what I'm loving about the hype for this is we're not even talking about Wolverine,
really.
Yeah.
We know Hugh Jackman will probably be in Doomsday or Secret Wars, but beyond that, not a new Wolverine.
That might be a gift.
Exactly.
Imagine if Hugh Jackman is what hurt the X-Men for 20 years as X-Men.
Yeah.
But what helps the new X-Men, like the association of Hugh Jackman being so tethered to it.
Because, I mean, everyone's heard my pitch, but I think X-Men should be separate of Wolverine
for at least two movies, maybe three.
and there should be a show or something else that's Wolverine alongside it to make all the money.
I know everyone claims from some Collider article, I guess it is, that they're slowing down on
their shows or I've heard they're canceling.
They're not doing any more shows.
I've not heard that from a single source that is officially like they're done with shows.
But I do think if you're going to have X-Men in this new wave, learn from your mistakes,
do stuff that sprinkles in.
Don't immediately jump with Wolverine because it's not Wolverine and the X-Men.
So I think that they would shoot themselves in the foot if they repeat what they did 25 years ago.
So it might be Hugh Jackman's association that saves us from the most popular X-Men overshadowing 95% of the team.
Because in the 90s, the heyday of X-Men, Storm was huge.
She was leading a team.
Cyclops and Gene were like the face.
Like, if you look at the X-Men 90s stuff, even the show, the animated series, Wolverine wasn't that big of a thing on the animated series.
It was when Hugh Jackman came in in 2000.
Like the movie is what did it.
So the big X-Men heyday, Wolverine, very popular.
He had his own comic.
the first Wolverine comic was
1982 that Frank Miller for issue one
John Bouchema and Chris Claremont
did the 1988 Wolverine comic
because he was so popular from the 82
but there were multiple X-Men comics running
simultaneously it benefited both of them
to keep Wolverine separate
and then the 90s he's a supporting character
because he's already so popular
you don't need to overshadow it
it was when the movies became a thing
then all of a sudden it's like the face of every comic
and those things I would argue Wolverine
is a Rushmore Marvel character
I think it's undeniable I would say like
Spider-Man
maybe an ex-Wilverine, Hulk.
Like, those are, I get it.
But if it's at the cost of the X-Men, not worth it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm excited for this, man.
I think it's gonna be a good movie.
I'm fucking stoked.
I think Ais of German's a great cast.
What do you guys think?
Who do you think?
I always feel weird asking the YouTube question.
Who'd your fourth Rushmore be?
Who do you see as the...
And Marvel specifically?
Like, if you think of the Marvel's biggest characters,
I would say over the 65 years,
Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Hulk are probably three out of the four.
I feel like because of what Robert Downey Jr.
has done with Iron Man, it would be Iron Man.
I think in the last 20 years, you're right.
I think because of that, it's fair.
It's kind of a similar thing.
Yeah.
Kind of a similar thing, not fully.
I feel like before Iron Man,
it would have been like,
Captain America is definitely the more iconic face.
But after Iron Man came out, after what the MCU has become.
Yeah, that's fair.
Okay.
I think the MCU is a big factor in two.
For looking at the overall culture.
Yeah.
I like that.
That's a good four.
Unless there's someone from Marvel we're missing.
I mean, like, Ghostrider was really big for a time, but I wouldn't say he's four.
I think Captain America is really big iconography, but I don't think he's bigger than Iron Man now.
I think I think that's fair.
Yeah, it's the impact that he made.
Yeah, he's changed movies, much less.
Comic movies.
Yeah.
He changed in the mall.
It really has.
Yeah.
Cool.
Let me know you guys rush more in the comments.
All right.
So moving on here.
there's been some gorilla grod leaked footage.
Now, what we mean by that is that they shoot on location.
James Gunn is always aware from watching an interview with Brandon Davis.
I am aware that James Gunn is aware that when they shoot on location,
stuff's going to get out.
Yeah, that's why they made, I mean, it was what a month ago?
They confirmed the show?
Like, it's not coincidence.
Yeah, he's, so we're not going to show any of it.
I know sometimes other YouTube channels will show it and they're fine,
and they can get away with it.
we've had bad experiences before
so I'm not going to risk it
just let's not the way I want to see girl at the first time
coy doesn't want to see it I've seen
I've seen this stuff
blame me but I'm more about like I don't want to
get hit on the channel with a strike in any capacity
and I'm about the integrity of the art
let him have that
I'm like I don't want to look at these set photos
you can totally go on your phone right now
while we're talking and look on the set photos
if you care to look on Twitter
they're everywhere and it's
So not weirdly what I expected.
Okay.
That has anything popped up in your feet.
Anything.
I've seen two images.
I saw.
I know you do not seek these out.
So what is popped up?
From scrolling, I've seen two images.
One was a picture of Gorilla Grodd wearing a cap and gown, which I fuck with heavy.
And then the other one was, it was like a distant first image.
I think it was like the day they started filming.
and it was literally like the first image of showing that it was someone on set as Gorilla Grod.
So it was like the Sasquatch photo.
Like it was literally just the shape of a gorilla.
And then I saw a capping gal that's all I've seen.
So like for a lot of people who who got to know Gorilla Grod.
Yeah.
At least in my earlier years, I wasn't reading Flash comics or DC comics to the extent where I'd come across Corrilla Grod.
Unless he was like randomly pop it up in something.
But the Flash TV show, I think introduced a lot.
lot of people to who guerrilla grott is because he actually played a much bigger part in that show
than people probably had anticipated and so the character for you guys don't know he's he's a telepathic
warlord he's he's hyper intelligent he's uh brutal he's arrogant uh he's he's a bad guy he's an evil dude
and this is not what these photos represent and it's so funny looking at what they're doing uh i got a few
of them pull i'll just describe them so i don't show coy thank you um there and again you guys can
to see these easily.
Like, Grod is in a sweater vest and slacks casually hanging out on campus.
So a lot of is like college shit.
So it's a, it's an origin.
Or part of the documentary true doc part of it.
It's a documentary, which is dope.
You said the cap and gown series.
There's one where he's in an a cappella group.
Amazing.
Amazing.
He's, he's serenating a woman in another one.
Is there any, a lot of formal wear?
I didn't know.
But the.
The surprising part, weirdly, and I'm kind of happy with it, is it's a, it's a dude in a suit.
Yeah, that's what I saw is like, people are like, it's physically a gorilla grot.
Now, this is definitely committing to the bit.
Yeah, that's hilarious.
This is comedy.
This is a real comedy show.
Not that I expected to walk out being like, that gorilla grot's a menacing figure.
It's a mockumentary.
It's a mockumentary.
And I love that they are committed to the bit.
And all this is, all this is, all this is set photos.
And this is just so weird and committed.
it is the most that's gotten me excited
while not swaying me in a direction of
I feel like this show is gonna be good
but damn am I interested in watching
whatever the hell this is now
because of how these are set photos
that I feel like a lot of people
it's easy to clown on these because it's not representing
what we think of Gorilla Grodd
but what I love especially as we've been doing
Road to Doomsday there's like there becomes a section
of Marvel for a bit where a lot of stuff starts feeling
like samezies or like especially the way it's like
visually done or narratively done and you start feeling like you're losing vision of like what a
director wants to do or you can feel like hey we wanted to commit to this movie but then we started
implementing some of these other things and just seem like with lanterns airing right now
having had even if you don't like the movie which a lot of people don't supergirl had just
come out earlier this year and then we got this curulagraith it's just so funny yet wow everything
feels really distinct.
And the Clayface trailer,
everything feels so different right now.
And forget multiple shows and multiple movies a year
that all get to feel this different.
And they feel specifically like a specific vision,
a vision to it all.
I would say Supergirl is the one you can contest the most.
But like Superman,
the Clayface trailer demonstrates that alone
what we're seeing with what they're doing with Gorilla Grod.
Lanterns is so specific.
It started with Creature Commandos.
That was hell of specific.
Creature Commandos for sure.
Peaceinker was specific.
And I think that going from creature commandos to Superman to peacemaker showed kind of a proof of concept.
And then this year we get lanterns.
We get Supergirl into lanterns into like the lead up Clayface at the end of this year.
But leading up to Manit Tomorrow, we've got this.
I feel like there's a mood balancing act that they're doing here.
Serious and then levity.
Yeah, that's what it seems like they're doing.
Because that's what comics feel like to me.
Landtons is.
Dude, it's heavy.
Whilst how can be funny, particularly how the characters can be funny,
I wouldn't call the show a comedy.
No.
It's so heavy.
It's very serious.
And it's also got a vision.
I think lanterns, I mean, we talked about it for a year leading up to it.
And for a year, it was like an image of two guys walking is all we had.
That drove me crazy because I was like, I just want a second production image.
Forever we had that one.
And I was like, the way it's being described, the way it's being pitched, the way it's
being talked about, this sounds like what I would want as a guy that doesn't connect
to cosmic as much as terrestrial.
Now that the show's out, it's been so cool to be like, this is everything I wanted.
But the people.
are also on board.
Because my big thing was, you know,
I think we did an episode of this show
where I was like,
at this point,
I'm so excited.
I don't care about the people.
If this show is everything I want,
I'm selfishly going to ride this wave
and then hope it does ratings enough that it gets more.
It's been such a gift that it has been my exact shit.
And the people seem to love it.
And it's doing well,
even amongst like,
you know,
I like lanterns,
but I wouldn't have done this,
but it sold me.
Like people seem to be converting to it,
which is really nice.
What I love is the idea that as long as there's a
particular vision. If people go in open-minded at all, it's getting people to go like, I wouldn't
have thought of that, but this artist did. Like, art is not meant to be what you fancasted. Art isn't
meant to be like the easy middle ground, like, well, I've already seen that. We should do that again.
It's nice when art gets to be bold and unique. And it gets to be something that people didn't
expect and then get to be surprised by. For me, when they announced a Jimmy Olson show, I was like,
fuck, yes, whatever that is. I mean, I love Jimmy Olson. Then they announced it was going to be a
Gorilla Grod show and I was like, I don't even know what the fuck that's going to be, but I'm in.
And then they announced the title, the People versus Gorilla Grod.
And I was like, I now have context.
Now this is my exact blend of like crazy Matt fraction weird Jimmy Olson.
That's a golden age character trapped in the modern age.
We met him in Superman and it was like that version of the character.
I can completely imagine what that show would be.
And then these images come out and I was like, they're doing it crazy.
Like they're putting it above the already absurdest thing that I was writing in my head.
That's way more exciting than like, I hope it appeases people.
Like we shouldn't be trying to make art for everyone.
She should try to make it for like the people that like the specificity of boldness.
True.
Like we talk about all the time when it's for everyone, it's for no one.
Yeah.
This should be crazy enough to get people to be like, if you heard about guerrilla garage, this show's crazy.
I feel like people.
I feel like people would misinterpret what you just said.
Probably.
Can you help me?
As a as like, oh, this shouldn't be for everyone.
The guy from D.C.
just said it shouldn't be for everyone.
I'm like, no, that's not what you're saying.
I'm saying you're saying that when you specify something, when you try to make something for everyone.
It isn't for anyone.
It just comes.
No one ends up liking that shit.
Yeah.
But when you make something super specific, you tend to get a passionate fan base around it.
The average person doesn't go to an ice cream shop with 60 flavors and get vanilla every time.
Sometimes they want my might want vanilla.
But overall, you probably have a favorite ice cream because it's specific.
Yeah.
I'm saying if you make everything broad strokes, it's not as delicious as having your shit.
Yeah.
So like find specific.
fistic a vision and make art and then let people find it because of its boldness and then hopefully
it reaches everyone that wants that boldness yeah thank you for clarifying i'm not saying it's for
yeah i know i just know how people to you have a very you're you're 99% of the time amazing with
your words and i and i've got it i've got a use not not that you were bad with your words i was just
like i know how some people will miss it will misinterpret what you said it sounds counterintuitive but
Making specific stuff is more for people than making stuff for everyone.
Like everyone, it doesn't exist.
Like you can't appease everyone.
That's true.
And that's exactly what I mean, though.
When I saw these, I have no interest in this show.
I've been here with you telling you, like, this does not seem like the direction D.C.
should be taken right now.
But when seeing these set photos, I did find myself gravitated towards wanting to see whatever the hell this is.
I imagine this is probably, now that I'm looking at it, I imagine it's probably like,
just when they're talking about his past
and they're showing like B-roll footage of it.
You know, and I don't imagine this is what the show will focus on
like this college years.
I don't think that's what the show is.
It'll be a part of his past, yeah, that they're doing
while they have the established Gorilla Grod.
Because the synopsis was saying,
everyone thinks they know the guerrilla Grod character.
So they'll have it established,
and it's supposed to be true crime.
So it would have the established guerrilla Grod as the villain,
and they start showing B-roll footage,
and that's what it is.
And I feel like some people are being misled
that this might be the show.
They've been filming for a week
because it was.
I think there's just a part of the show.
But that's such a weird fucking background.
But that's what I think is so exciting.
Like the idea that you just said like Acapella
and I saw that one cap and gown photo,
it's really fun because people that like seeing set photos
can have this experience of what is this going to be.
And then I can have my like mind's eye of like,
I already had this idea of what the show could be.
And it's even more absurd.
And all of that is doing.
its own version of marketing.
Like all of that,
like you just said,
you weren't that interested.
And now it's like,
well,
what?
And like,
that's a year away,
right?
Like that's so exciting
that doing a practical thing
already has you interested
versus like if a guy
was on set with dots on his face,
you wouldn't,
like we wouldn't be talking about that.
But we wouldn't have hated that.
But we wouldn't be talking about it.
Like,
we wouldn't have come even up.
Like,
it would never have brought itself
to the mainstream.
Yeah.
Because it's not,
right now someone in LA
has dots drawn on their face.
We're not talking about them
because that's how most things are made.
like there is something
probably filmed at Marvel or a giant spectacle,
like a Star Trek, something happening right now.
And it's like, well, it's not exciting.
But a gorilla in a cap and gown is fucking exciting.
It's so weird.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
So I like that, you know, I, again, as someone that works with DC Studios,
I like that swings are being taken with Vision Quest.
I like that swings are being taken with this.
And I've said a lot lately,
but I think this is such a really special golden age of comic book stuff,
because we've gotten to the point where we can be weird,
but also there is a built-in audience.
We have 18 years of Goodwill built up.
There have been pitfalls, but for 18 years we've been building up to this stuff,
I'm glad the studios are going like, we should make some weird shit sometimes.
Oh, man, I'm excited.
Now they just got to announce Batman and Wonder Woman.
Yeah.
Which definitely seems like we have our Wonder Woman.
I feel like if I wish I knew.
I wish you knew too.
I don't know because it's nice to be also like seeing people theorize and be like,
I couldn't tell you.
If I was on a polygraph, I wouldn't know.
But we haven't had this kind of conversation in forever because usually they're just like,
let's talk about Adrian Arjona.
Sure.
I love watching the interview she's in.
It makes me want to see Onslaught.
I love her personality.
So, I mean, I already kind of wanted to see it.
Yeah.
I really want to see it because I love her personality.
I remember John and I have actually interviewed her years ago for Andor.
And they had to interrupt our interview because she gives such generous answers and she stays so committed to the conversation.
I was like, she just keeps talking.
And because of that, they had to interrupt me like, like, we have to cut you guys off.
And I was like, oh, it's not because we're keeping her.
You know, she's just lending her voice here for so long and watching these interviews.
I'm so curious right now, though.
It's everyone, myself included, is convinced she's Wonder Woman just by how all the speculation has been, how the dodging of the questions has been.
Of course, there's the other thing that she could be Maxima, but there's no real leak out there yet.
Which is also exciting.
Which is exciting.
There was some photo that went out, but it definitely looked fake to me, honestly, when I saw it.
It could be real, but it really didn't look real to me.
Do you think people will be disappointed now if she's not Wonder Woman?
It's kind of like the Sadie Sink Jean Grey thing, where it seems like the most, the worst kept secret.
Right.
But if she wasn't Jean Grey, I think people might have actually been disappointed by that.
Yeah, they would have said they weren't.
But then.
Yeah, they would.
So it's not, it wouldn't be her fault at all.
it would be Zikegeist rumor speculation.
To know what I liked, and I would say this feels like,
and even further back than Gene Gray,
when Toby and Andrew were in no way home,
and we got those images of Toby's dick.
And everyone was like, well, that confirms it.
But there was still that like, does it?
And up until physically seeing them on screen,
an hour and a half,
an hour and 10 minutes in the movie,
there's still that like,
is it about to be true?
I think that is kind of the middle ground
between like me kind of,
of getting spoiler culture,
because I hate spoilers.
I don't even want to see these images.
Like I like to see a finished product
because I can never see it for the first time again.
But I remember in No Way Home
when Andrew Garfield and Toby appeared.
And even as recently as Gene Gray,
when her name appeared on screen visually,
we all felt like we had already figured it out,
but it was still a rush of confirmation.
Yeah.
This feels like something akin to that
where I don't know,
and I've heard everyone say,
it is happening.
But until I know,
it gets to be exciting.
So like, yeah, if she's playing like a postal worker, I'm gonna be upset.
But like short of that, it gets to be a rush up until manna tomorrow.
Well, I guess.
But I want her for 10 years.
So I guess they're part of it also is like what other character is worth Audrey is the question.
Yeah.
Like that would be my only quote.
The sad part about DC is there's only outside a superhero.
There's not many iconic female superheroes.
I would say both
studios have great characters
Both the big two
I'm not saying this bad female characters
No no but I'm saying they haven't gotten
Their due yet
Which ones?
Like female characters
Like we were watching Road to Doomsday
And it took 25 movies to get to Black Widow
Like there just aren't a lot of female characters
Getting sure their characters are good
But they're not pop cultural
Zikegeist shifters
Yes
And that's not the character
Like so I'm saying like
I think both Marvel and D.C.
Have incredible characters that she could embody
and make that.
So I would say like she'd fucking kill it as Zatana.
And Zatana would be an incredible role for 10 years.
Zatana.
I'm just pulling a character out of my house.
That's great.
Like Zatana's a big character in the comic book community.
Yeah.
Or people who've seen,
I think she's on that Titan show.
I mean,
she's in some of the animated show.
Yeah, yeah.
But the,
but anyway,
it's like there's a Wonder Woman
is one of those characters who's so popular
that if you haven't seen Wonder Woman,
you're like,
yeah,
I know a Wonder Woman kind of looks like at least.
Yeah, I agree.
And like that's and then they're supergirl.
Those are kind of the only two, right?
The catwoman, I guess, but that's not like the superhero.
Like Batman, Poison Ivy and all those women that they don't count as like the hero.
So I'm like, there's no one else that she could play that would deliver that level of hype.
You know what I mean?
I see you're saying.
I mean, it's hard because I feel like there'd be no other reason to keep her such a secret.
That I agree with.
But there is, there is like, John Cena's playing peacemaker.
And if we didn't know he's playing peacemaker and this was before all this stuff, we'd be like, John Cena is so jacked and he's got such a specific look.
Who could he be playing?
And we'd be like, fucking peace.
You mean the guy that they based the comedian off of?
Like, what a lame character.
Two seasons of a show and we're excited he's going to be like, you know, part of the universe.
So there are characters you can elevate by casting someone awesome.
But that needs to be someone worth her.
and we need to have the character
like blow us out of the water from the jump
and I'm completely in agreeance that like
there are five characters that are
mainstream enough that it would equal
like I would say she'd be like
I'm just gonna keep using Zatana
I think in a movie or two I'd be like holy shit
I didn't know I love this character
and now we're here but it would take that
I would love if she's Wonder Woman
but I don't know
I don't know if so therefore I have to just
keep being like who else could be
or the end like what do we do
with all this built up like
excitement until we know
because it's like a year away or six
months seven months damn i i really
hope she's wonder woman i hope
she is not it's the molest so
that i hope wonder woman is in mad of tomorrow
i just hope that she's even though she's in the movie
i just want a character worthy of her
because she's awesome i want i want ajor ar hona to be here
after and or i like
madly in love with her work and i worked
to their amorbius for weeks and
again just like you said generous that they're
time to a crazy level and just so kind and like awesome.
I know James Gunn's whole rule is like doesn't want to work with assholes.
Like well not because he likes to work with the same people over a long period of time.
I'm hoping since she's such a doll, she is a big character.
I don't know who that would be.
Yeah.
Maxima.
I'm just excited.
And also fucking the train has been crazy.
Her and Palo doing work.
She is cut right now.
Yeah, dude.
Anyway, last bit of DC News.
let me pull up the exact thing
as apparently
some variety
I say
Matt Reeves
got some shit renewed
he's got some shit renewed
he's got a
who said this
CEO of WBTV
Channing Dungi
Matt has a true
knack
for getting into the psyche
of his characters
and he and his team
have delivered some of the most
compelling thought-provoking stories
over the years.
So he's re-uped his overall deal
with Warner Brothers TV
to produce more projects
for the studio.
Is there anything else
in active development
right now from Matt Reeves
of the TV shows
because it was like
there were several...
Maybe there were several...
Maybe, yeah,
because there were several things
and then...
There weren't.
There weren't.
Like there was Penguin
and nothing else after that.
So...
Maybe it was a...
this, right? Like, because it took
years to get the Batman
too, and we don't know
what it was, but like,
it was something that caused the movie
to shift years, not months.
So I imagine whatever
that was would cause any
show to be held. Yeah.
And if your contract's coming up, you don't exactly
announce shit and go like, yeah.
So maybe now we're going to have the floodgates open.
Like I could very much see this being like,
well, now that the ink is dried, here's
82 things. Because they haven't officially
announced of James, I know there's been reports saying that James Gunn has renewed, but there's
nothing that's official. That's out. I thought I saw something, but again, that's like lawyer.
That's like a weird different business level that I'm never sure if it's true or not because
it's like, that doesn't get announced in a way that feels tangible. Yeah. You hear it. Then you go like,
sure, this guy, WBTV, I believe. I believe it too. And it's so interesting because it's making me
wonder if we will get that Batman announcement of the DC.
see you at any point
soon because they're clearly going to be
building out this Batman universe. Unless
there's something in the Matt Reeves plan
that is going
beyond the Batman
world, which would be kind
of insane. I remember
Clayface is a Matt
Reeves joint. We don't know for sure.
He helped produce it. Like he's
a part of it. Oh, that's what you mean. I'm not saying universal.
I'm not saying which universe. I'm saying
he shepherded it forward
and is a producer on it. Okay. Yeah, but we
just don't know for sure if it's part of the Batman, the Batman world.
I thought they confirmed it was DCU.
Did it, did they?
I thought.
Did they?
I haven't seen the movie yet.
Did they come?
I'm out here fighting.
Did they, let me type it.
Did they confirm what universe clay face?
Again, until I see it like, I mean, I don't, it's always the Google AI.
I'm like, I need, I need a, give me Google.
I need a variety report or something.
Give me the real Google, what it was.
official outlet.
Because we've fallen for like the Google AIs.
Yeah.
IGN.
I guess that's pretty good.
They're supposed to be in the DCU.
Yeah.
Okay.
But he produced.
Okay.
So he might be involved in some of the,
so yeah.
He might be involved beyond the Batman world.
So that's,
I know that project is DCU now,
confirm it even more.
And I think he's working on Dynamic Duo in some capacity.
Oh, really?
So like he's bat.
Like he's in it, you know?
So that to me is him being a part of whatever they do going forward.
Because I remember a Josh Horowitz interview from forever ago,
around the time when he was promoting Superman,
he had said,
Josh Horace asked him,
is there any director that he'd like to get to direct a DCU movie?
And James Gunn specifically said Matt Reeves.
Oh shit.
To direct a DCU film.
That's cool.
That is cool.
I love that like so many people are like,
they hate each other.
That's why it got delayed.
And then like Matt Reeves,
they were clearly working on.
And then it.
like Zach Snyder does a video like an animated thing where they voice shit like I love that the
internet just like everyone hates each other and then they're like I'm gonna extend my contract
and I've actually got a bunch of projects in development like I want to see all these
collabs I would love to see I mean the thing is he took a care of support he made he made
something feel prestige and important in terms of he wasn't the main creator of it he he's a
he was one of the active producers on it yeah he was creatively involved for and it was the world
that he established and then he brought it an incredible team for like exactly
Exactly, exactly.
He still was a leader as part of the Penguin show.
Yeah.
And something that's gone a little bit awry with a television and comic book world
is the question of how consequential does it really feel.
Well, even if the Penguin show doesn't ultimately feel consequential to the experience of watching the Batman part two,
you at least know you're getting prestige dramatic television.
They've won fucking Emmys for that.
If they won like big, golden gloves for that?
Like tons.
Like going for a one like the more gold for that than anything.
Yeah, exactly.
They won like real freaking awards and people love the shit out of the show.
I never felt like we had that little asterisk.
I'm so sick of that.
Like it did not feel like that with Penguin season.
So if you're not going to, if it's less about connectivity or you got to watch this show
to understand the movie, if you train people to be conditioned for, but you're going
to get like prestige HBO television.
And then there can be tie-ins, but do it like in a way that isn't, oh, no, I missed it.
Yeah.
Like I love that Renzi made Gotham more interesting.
Like Renzi's character, like the way they showed lower class stress and struggle and what Gotham could really be not from Bruce Wayne's ivory tower made both more interesting.
And like the flood, that scene when they like recontextualize all that.
Like I didn't feel like that made people miss out if they didn't watch it.
But now going into the Batman too, I have way more connection to Gotham.
Yeah.
I hope that is what becomes of Matt Reeves's name associated with any of the DC TV shows that come out moving forward.
That's kind of just my one-ed-a-thing.
I mean, I personally would love if Matt Reeves Batman universe gets to build out to like 10 properties.
But that's what I mean.
And then also the DC you can exist.
Because there's sometimes where you go, we're talking about having some of these Marvel characters get a special presentation or something, which is true.
I mean, some of those are amazing.
But I'd be so much more jacked if it was like, oh, the Catwoman show.
Zoe Crave is getting her Catwoman show.
Oh, man, that would be awesome.
Because you just know it's going to be developed and there's going to be a vision.
It's going to be focused.
It's going to be more than just getting information.
Right.
It's going to be some damn good television.
So that's my main hope for bad.
For me, it's like if I hear Lord and Miller, I'm like, they know.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That kind of, that's,
that night hood of like, I'm in.
It doesn't matter.
Yeah.
No, that's perfect comparison for that.
Anyway, that's it for DC News and Comic News.
Let's move on to video game things.
And then we'll call it a day.
Zach Craigor, can you pull up that video that I sent over?
So, I haven't been following this.
Please, Resident Evil fans or people who have been following, comment in the comments below.
I admittedly am not that well researched on the background of this.
All I see once in a while is people complaining about Zach Krieger.
He's just reached that point in his career after having two very successful horror movies.
We're like, take him down.
It's just timelines.
Along that timeline, we're all in trouble with the internet.
Because I'm really excited for this.
This movie looks awesome to me.
I'm hosting stuff on my birthday,
and I almost was like,
I really want to go to Resident Evil.
Like,
that's how excited I am.
It looks so cool,
but it's not an adaptation of the video games.
So that's one thing that's been going on
is that it's not a direct adaptation of the games.
I don't even think it's like part of the timeline.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't feel like it's part of the timeline.
There's just stuff that doesn't feel like it's running parallel to the video games.
Okay.
And that seems to be.
upsetting a lot of fans of it. Whereas
he wanted to make a movie that
still feels like you are part of the world of Resident Evil, though
that this really is an adaptation of the game experience.
Are you saying people made the same mistake? They made it with Lanterns and they're
doing it again. I think this is a way worse because
Landowners was loud and then it got quiet. It's different. The Lanterns at least
has characters from the Lanterns comic books. So this is a thing where like
None of the characters from the Resident Evil games are in this.
And he put out a...
So the thing that was getting quote tweeted a lot was from this interview on IGN, I believe,
where he said, we're going to play the whole interview, or at least the one minute clip.
The thing that was getting quote tweeted of the wazoo is he said,
I did not really appreciate the sentiment that we've been waiting forever for Leon's story.
And I appreciate that.
and I'm sorry that's not the story I'm bringing here.
So it just ended there and the quote tweet.
There's so much more he said after that.
I know that much.
There's so much more he said after that.
But to on this, when they just did that quote tweet,
it sounded like he was conceding that I fucked up.
I didn't make the right choice here.
And now it seems like there's some backpedaling.
I don't actually agree with that when I saw this clip.
And I want to watch it again.
And maybe my opinion will change.
But let's play this clip.
Live React to reacting to Zach Craigers reactions.
Oh, we can't hear.
Can you remind it?
Whoa, whoa, you lowered a little bit.
All right.
Ray, let's start this again.
From the top, Ray.
Thank you, Ray.
Start with the top.
Thank you, Ray.
I think that there is a little bit of a conversation going on about this movie about like a little bit of a conversation.
Wow.
Okay, that's putting it lightly.
I think I was naive.
I thought that fans of these games like, like me, would be thrilled.
that somebody was coming along and turning Resident Evil into a survival horror movie.
I did not really appreciate the sentiment that we've been waiting forever for Leon's story.
And I appreciate that.
And I'm sorry that that's not the story that I'm bringing here.
I mean, I get it.
I understand the frustration.
I understand it so well because I haven't seen the earlier movies
because they don't look like the Resident Evil that I love.
So how could I be frustrated with fans who have that same attitude?
My only hope is that they will see the movie regardless of their skepticism or their disappointment that I'm not telling some of the stories that the games tell so well and that they will feel seen when they do watch the movie and they will recognize all of the love for the games that is in this movie because it is there and this is not just me telling a story and slapping Resident Evil on it so I can get a budget this is me telling a Resident Evil story I understand the resistance I really do I because I have it myself but it is it is coming from a true place of love
What a great perspective.
I feel like that is an amazing perspective.
And he actually acknowledged it.
He didn't skirt it.
Like you hear the story within that whole response of like clearly there was frustration that he was having with interactions with the fans.
And then he grew to understand what they were saying.
And I feel like when he says not telling Leon's story, I don't think he's just talking about, I don't, I think some people are taking it as.
It's not about, it's not about Leon's story.
there's a bunch of other characters and whatever.
I think he was just using that as an example of like,
oh, I know I'm not telling like Leon's story.
And then he goes on to acknowledge what the fans of what he's talking about,
how he's had the same thing with the Paul W.S. Anderson movies.
That's an incredibly candid.
Like, usually directors are not so candid.
Yeah, and he also made it very clear too that he,
I love this statement that he made about I didn't just put the Resident Evil title there
to get a budget for the movie.
And the whole tone of that,
I believe more excited for the movie
That sounds so cool
But you're just getting torn apart man
I go to the replies on that tweet
And I was like
I know Twitter is usually mean
That's usually what Twitter is
I'm getting off Twitter for my birthday
I mean it is awful
It is awful
But
Damn I could not disagree more
With the way people
That was a great ad
Is it tracking well
Can you can you see how it's tracking
And then while you're
I've been very excited for it
And I get more excited with each bit.
And then that was like the ultimate trailer for me because it's a director who clearly is passionate, a director who knows the fandom enough to know what he didn't do, who knows enough to know that he didn't want the other movies to, in fact, avoid them.
But also someone who's a very capable director making something from a place of passion.
Like that's what I want to hear from a director is that they love the shit.
They didn't just cop out and smack a label on it.
And he loves it so much that he respects the fan.
Like that's a fucking 10 of 10 one minute, bro.
Nope.
To me, it's the equivalent of like, oh, we're going to do a resident.
I'm going to make a Resident Evil video game.
Here's a story I'm going to tell.
Instead of making the video game, he's making a movie.
Yeah.
That's just kind of what it sounds like to me.
He likes the world and wants to use his skill set.
I want to do my story in the world of Resident Evil.
He's a movie director. Maybe he'd make a movie.
So I looked up what it's currently tracking for box office.
Domestic opening weekend is saying 35 to 60 million currently with Glover.
That's pretty good for September, isn't it?
Or is that?
Yeah. What's the budget?
I should know that before I decide.
Global estimates are around 120 to 150.
That doesn't mean it's going to pull that off.
Doesn't mean it's going to deliver that or doesn't mean it won't actually overperform.
Let me see if there is a release.
It's been a while since we've had a Resident Evil.
Production budget.
It's estimated.
Wow, that is an expensive horror movie.
It is estimated to be around $80 million.
So it would do okay if it made that $100.
Like that'd be, it'd be in a good place.
I think if this movie gets a really good response.
That's what I mean.
It'll grow.
Yeah.
Because it's got the fall.
It's September all the way into Halloween season.
Yeah.
I think if this gets a good response.
It's six weeks out from Halloween.
I hope it's good.
I hope it's good.
I'm, dude, I'm dying for a good resume.
I think every director gets a rule of three.
You have to have three good films.
And then you're a good director.
Well, no.
What I mean by that is like you can get away with making some shitty films.
Oh, yeah.
I think that's why I think that's why M.
I think that's why M.
I think that's why M.
Shama long can get away with like shitty films once in a lot.
Yeah, I'll always see your shit. Because he's done, he's done at least three really phenomenal
films. They're so, they're so high. But he's got barbarian weapons. And if he pulls off an
adaptation, a great, a great video game movie, or at least inspired from a great video game,
bam, he's going to, he can make a shitty next movie, but people won't be like, I was a fluke.
Okay, okay. I think this way it is for like actors and, and directors. Like, you got to have three.
It's like, I'm sorry for the Donnie Darko director.
I've actually met him before.
Richard Kelly.
Yeah, he was a really nice guy when I met him.
But it's like, all you know is Donnie Darko.
Southland Tales.
How loved is that?
It's got a devout small following.
The numbers are small but passionate.
Well, all right, then.
I think Curry Barker needs at least two more good movies.
I agree with this new wave, and I think that a lot of them will hit that.
But there's something that will fall off.
Like, there will be names that.
we're speaking of now is like, are they gonna
that can't statistically. Yeah,
and I hope Zach Craigor is able to. I think he's
in a much better spot. I think he
I will see a movie if his
names on it and I would not say that about a lot
of the this year's crop yet.
Yeah. I'm excited for
man. It looks really cool. I think it looks great. I
fucking love the trailer. I love the cinema con
footage. It looks fucking terrifying. It's
counter programming for me because I don't usually
like gross horror and like I'm
amped. Like the fact that I've got Clayface
and Resident Evil this year that I'm genuinely
excited for makes me happen to be broadening my horror horizons.
Because it feels like I'm genuinely getting brought into an entire genre that I think of myself
as avoiding.
And it's doing it with the genre that I like, which is like adaptation stuff.
Well, horror has really evolved.
I think Jordan, I mean, of course we had like hereditary and the elevated horror genre,
which really changed things.
But I think like Jordan Peel actually would get out.
So black phone for me.
Black phone really got me back in.
I was a horror kid.
What I mean by actually not be.
I feel like horror was not a respected filmmaking genre.
Oh, yeah, I agree with that until the last 10 years.
And I think,
I feel like once Get Out came out and then he won the Oscar for writing,
I believe for that.
I think once that happened,
because like weapons,
the person,
I forgot her name,
person plays Gladys,
she won the Oscar for it.
So,
yeah,
I feel like,
it's in a good spot.
And I also think the movies are,
are reflecting that.
Like,
they're giving more budgets.
They're giving more creativity.
They're letting me bolder.
Yeah.
It was one of those genres that got just got flack for
so many years while they had like their once in a while it's like a shining or an exorcist
that will come out generally the genre was not a respected genre like oh we get overlooked like
that's suicide squad oscar oh yeah one day we'll get comic book movies to be respected outside true that
anyway that's it are you looking for to resident evil i'm really excited i'm gonna watch it i don't
have to react to it here yeah this is this for two Greg's gonna watch it on my birthday i'm gonna
watch it on coy's birthday i was gonna be there but then i'm
I'm doing a really cool.
Oh, actually, I don't know if it's...
The birthday's Batman Day.
What other great day is there for Koi's birthday than Batman?
Dude, my birthday.
I'm waking up and they're going to let me go on the Fast and the Furious ride early.
I get a Fast and Furious, like, private ride.
And then at night, I'm hosting Batman Day.
Wow.
It's a pretty cool.
Like, I feel as arrogant as the Internet thinks I am on my birthday and I get to celebrate it with two bits of studio love.
You're just as privilege as Warren Worthington.
That's right.
Coy the third coming soon, children.
Actually, in that same vein,
I was not going to name drop, but I think this is a funny one.
I did a short with Zach Craigor ones.
I was a day player, very small role.
But the irony of the timing is we were both green lanterns.
I was a green lantern alongside Zach Craigor.
Oh, that's fun.
Which I think it's just a tiny world for all the news today.
When I looked at a rundown, I was like, ah, cool.
Fun fact.
That is a fun fact.
I try to save my name drops now.
I make them count a little bit more.
Guys, as a birthday present,
Koi, go follow him on his YouTube channel
or his social media, but primarily his YouTube
channel. I've been hustling on that YouTube
page. He's been a hustler, baby.
Check it out. And it's nothing that we talk about
here. It was very important to me. A lot of people have been asking
for reactions, and I say, no, no, no.
That is a real reject thing that I do
there. That is not what this channel is for. I've reacted
to a couple trailers, but overall, I react here.
It's why Nightfall got reviewed on my page,
but I'm reviewing all sorts of stuff. We don't
cover here, and lots of comic book, actual, like,
comic book news and adaptation stuff.
Please.
Nice.
No one knows how to plug themselves better than you.
You know, it's a gift and a curse.
Sometimes the narcissism pays the bills, and sometimes I'm just that annoying friend that no one likes to talk about themselves.
But it's my birthday, so I can be both.
See you guys.
