Starting point is 00:01:32 All right, X-Men apocalypse. Commence. I think I know where this is going. We'll wait till the next movie and then I'll mention what I think. But you guys can mention in the comments, but I think I know where it's going. I've got no idea.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I think it has to do with the next film. Well, if you are listening to us on Apple or Spotify, make sure you use those gene-gray mind-control. powers and give us five stars. And also, too, if you want cool teas like these, RejectNation Shop.com. And then Tara and Roxy, hold on, hold on. Tara is getting it.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Maybe, maybe she's getting it. Okay, she's got it. Look how cool, guys. Forgot to put this on. You have to get your spooky she-jack sweater. It is literally the best. Look at that. You got Michael Myers.
Starting point is 00:02:26 You got Pennywise. You got Robert England, not Jackie Earl Haley. Freddie Krueger, you got Roxy, you got Tara, you got Chucky, you got scream, ghost face, you got Jason, oh my God, and that's Kane Hodder, that's not, what's his name from Fayette versus Jason? Oh, you already said Halloween over there, right? Yeah, I said Michael Myers. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, okay. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Is that not amazing? And we're right in the month before Halloween. You got to get this. You have to get this. And it comes also in black. So it comes in this orange and in black. and there will be a point where we have some that will sign that are different colors being rocks
Starting point is 00:03:05 and you can try to get those on rejectnation shop.com. There will only be one of each different color available. We'll get that to you soon. There's been a delay because I had COVID, you know. Get it. It's the perfect time of the year. Yeah, it looked like they had the juice from maybe all of the X-Men in that that was color differently.
Starting point is 00:03:26 and they were just waiting to get Wolverines and then possibly make a monster. Yeah, I think it has to do in regards to Logan, but I will not spoil it for you because I obviously have seen that film and it's one of my favorite X-Men. It's one of my favorite films ever, I would say. Oh, wow, okay.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Yes, so, but again... Is that next? That is our next film. I can't wait. I'm excited. But we're not there yet, Tara. No, we're not. We're on this one. We're on X-Men Apocalypse, and I would love to know. And I really, I enjoy this film. You know, when you look at a film and you're like,
Starting point is 00:03:56 Like it's two and a half hours. Oh, my God. It might be looking at the clock the whole time. And I didn't feel that way. I thought that the story was really well written. The pacing was really good. I actually really love Sophie Turner's, especially the turn at the end. I got goosebumps.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Like, because Sophie Turner wasn't as, I mean, Gene's character wasn't as striking as we would perceive her to be. You see everyone else doing a bunch of stuff in leading up to. us trying to take down, like, their father, the God figure, right? But at the end, when he's like, unleash your power and she does, holy to Molly. Like, that was so intense. And I just, I loved it when he's like, you are alone and I am not. And it's like X men, you see them become united at the end, which is like so much fun.
Starting point is 00:04:52 I loved it. And I thought the reveal of Wolverine, In him being in that cage, it made sense. It wasn't just like, where do we throw him in so that we can get a reaction? They put him in the perfect setting. Of course, that's where he would be. So it made a lot of sense for him to help them kind of escape. And then he runs off.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I just thought it was a really, really fun reveal. And I also really love the switch with Magneto. When it, and I was expecting it, I was like, come on, Magneto. let's like do this like come on let's switch sides we know what's happening and they had really good lines like him saying no i betrayed them it's a really well-written script there's more lines than that but it's true i mean he did betray them in the beginning and him going back to his you know original kind of core with professor xavier who he owes a lot to and then of course him leaving at the end still makes sense. I don't see him in that core right now. Absolutely agree.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Because if he did, you'd be like, no, this is too happy, go lucky. Like, no, no, no. Ideology was to you. Exactly. And so I loved it. And I love that we got another quick silver scene, the one that we loved from the other movie. You guys know, I don't remember all the names. We got that scene again, the slowdown. It was great. I thought that the visuals were awesome. I loved it. You know what? First of all, apologies if I repeat. You guys know, sometimes I just repeat myself a few different times or many times. So apologies if I mentioned like, I really don't remember this. It's just because a lot of things were just coming back to me. So again, sorry if I said that and sorry that I said that again. But I remember like X-Men the Last Stand. And again, I had only seen this once. But like X-Men the Last Stand, I thought this was a very mediocre film when I had originally seen it. This was a lot better than I remember. Again, I wouldn't go in the top echelon of the X-Men films, but I definitely enjoyed this watch a lot more than the 2016.
Starting point is 00:07:00 I think maybe because I had just come out of seeing, well, I mean, not just, but a few months prior to seeing Deadpool, and also Days of Future Past had just preceded this as well. And also from X2, X-Men United, like those were the top echelon. So I think maybe I had my, I think I had expectations maybe just too high with this film, possibly and it just didn't get those crazy high expectations but having rewatch this after so many years and only the one time and thinking it was mediocre after coming to see this the first hour was really incredible um you mentioned again this might sound i'm going to go over
Starting point is 00:07:37 a couple things that i was not a big fan of and then i'm going to go into i really did enjoy the film just i want to throw that out there before it sounds like i'm hating on it i'm not i'm just going over a couple things that i was just not a big fan pacing wise i thought the first hour flawless for me. I thought maybe more towards the end battle was dragging just a tiny bit but overall for the most part, pacing was pretty good but again, the first hour, very flawless.
Starting point is 00:08:00 I thought Apocalypse, I loved Oscar Isaac's performance and I think they really set out this character and again, I really didn't read too many comics with Apocalypse. I just know he was almost invincible. He's a really mega level or even higher, whatever,
Starting point is 00:08:15 but I know he's like basically impossible to defeat for the most. part. I thought the way they defeated him made sense in this film. I would have loved if they maybe made a second part. Just not had him as a one-off villain. I think he's too strong a villain to have him as just the monster of the film and that's it. I would have preferred, especially with how they set him up. How possibly his powers are, like how he's just turning everyone into sand and wiping them off the face and how he's able to. And again, with how strong Phoenix is, I'm not saying that
Starting point is 00:08:47 she's not powerful enough to defeat him but I really wish they didn't kill him personally I would have loved if they set him up for possibly another film down the line maybe
Starting point is 00:08:56 but just or maybe again a part two apocalypse part two whatever but I would have loved if they went down that route because I also thought like I love how menacing he is he really
Starting point is 00:09:04 he really sets up obstacles for the X-Men like I really I really felt the stakes with him in it and also too I love Jennifer Lawrence and I thought her performance
Starting point is 00:09:15 was fine in the film, I just personally, and again, I understand where they're coming from this film with everything that happened in days of future, days of future past. I understand why she's looked, looked up to from other mutants' perspectives with a totally understandable and that's a very plausible thing. I just don't personally see her as the leader of the X-Men. That's just me. I've never personally seen that, but again, I get what they were going for. Those are all the slight negatives aside um overall though i really enjoy i'd say besides quicksilver being my talking i'm gonna look up besides quicksilver being my favorite character for obvious reasons that's seen in the and also too
Starting point is 00:09:55 evan peters he's just got this charismatic energy he's so much fun to watch i loved oscar isaac as apocalypse again he added stakes and really gave uh the x-men like i really felt threatened for him even though you know there's other films and they're gonna survive but still like in the moment you really felt scared for the X-Men in the moment. Yeah, you really did. And that's all you can ask for, you know, when you watch these type films. So I love this performance. I just wish we could have got more of him after this with either another part or just more
Starting point is 00:10:23 films down the line. That's just a nitpick, but I loved his performance. I think my favorite character in the film, though, at least character-wise, had to be Eric again. Oh, yeah. I just, I love what they tried to do. Like, hey, I've tried to go this route. I'm going to try and go Charles away.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I'm going to try to be a family man. and, like, go the humane route of just not using my powers. Let's blend into society. Let's see how that works. And he did it. And also, the one time he uses his powers, it's not for an evil or nefarious thing. It's for a good cause. Like, a guy was going to get hit by that thing that was about to hit him.
Starting point is 00:11:01 And he used it to save someone's life. And for doing the good Samaritan thing. And I understand, look, we live in a world where if we don't understand something or we fear something, we get scared. I get that. But this dude, like, these people knew this guy and he saved someone's life. And I get, we can't have the film if they don't do that. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:19 But still, this man is just mirrored in tragedy and you just feel so bad and you understand his motivation so damn well. I really felt for him. And, like, when he was causing mayhem and destruction, like, obviously you don't want him to do it. Right. But you really feel his pain when he does it. Yeah, you have that huge character arc. Yeah. You just are able to see.
Starting point is 00:11:39 And especially visiting Auschwitz, right? where you're like, oh my God, give me a break with them dying? I just thought his character had the best arc was the best written character in the film. I just, and again, performance pie. Michael Fastbender, fantastic again. He's just a terrific, terrific actor. He is.
Starting point is 00:11:59 And also, too, the limited scenes we got with him and James McAvoy, I love all their interactions, as always. I wish we could always get more with the two of them. But, I mean, the scenes we got, I'm always grateful. before. And the scenes that they showed us from the past movies was really nice in showing that relationship kind of reminding us. And also too, again, you know he's going to obviously turn on apocalypse. It's an obvious foreshadow. I mean, they have to show, I guess you have to show the audience that because it's like, okay, now we're showing you this. So we have to show why he's
Starting point is 00:12:30 flipped on apocalypse. Right. I don't even think it would have been a bad. I mean, again, it was fine with what they did. I don't even think it would have been a bad thing too. If you just show a little seen with him and his wife and his daughter and possibly even his parents in there just to show is this what not only is there's good in you but is this what your wife and daughter is this what your parents would want you to do right even though you're you're mired in pain and tragedies is this what they would want right you know what I mean even though you're feeling such pain but again I loved his character so much he's just he's a beautiful character but uh written character but he's also a very tragic character as well but uh again fantastic performance like
Starting point is 00:13:07 At the end of the day, it's just words on paper. Michael Fastbender brings this character to life as always. Yeah. So great job by him. Also, too, it was awesome seeing the relationship building, the character development, and also the introduction of the relationship of Ty Sheridan Cyclops and Sophie Turner's Gene Gray. It's a very meaningful relationship, although, again, for the 50th time that I've mentioned it in this whole series, obviously we didn't get a ton of screen time with James Marston's Cyclops.
Starting point is 00:13:36 and also just the relationship in general. We saw a little bit of that in the original trilogy. So to see the introduction of that and to see it develop a little bit in this film, I thought was a nice touch. Yeah, and also to see her with Wolverine, sort of like, I can help you. Good call.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Which was a really great insight to the beginning of their relationship. Especially when he just looks at her the whole entire time when he's taking all that stuff out. Then kind of looks around and then runs off. That's like one of those, like core memories for him.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Right. Which is why now we know that when, you know, in the future, why, you know, he has so much love for her. And we can't obviously say with that scene, well, how don't they remember him in the future? Right. They reset the timeline. So it makes sense that, you know, in regards to that. But yeah, overall, like I said, I thought this was extremely mediocre when I saw it in theaters. I really enjoyed it a lot more.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Again, I wouldn't go top echelon X-Men films. I had, as I mentioned, a few problems. But overall, I liked it a lot more than I remembered. So I just would have, I think it could have used another film, especially with Apocalypse. But overall, I really enjoyed it, actually, a lot more than I remember. It was fun. I've got some trivia. Although not in the movie, Sir Patrick Stewart jokingly informed Brian Singer that he would be willing to play mystique should Jennifer Lawrence start playing up.
Starting point is 00:14:58 He said, I'm so ready to be naked, painted blue, and the world is ready for it too. Missed opportunities. We should have had Sir Patrick Stewart doing it. Yeah. In the comics, Mystique is the mother of Nightcrawler, so yes, you're right about that, and was forced to abandon him, though this is never acknowledged or hinted at in either this or X2, X-Men United. However, in an out-take, Jennifer Lawrence ad-libed a line acknowledging Nightcrawler as her son, Azazel. This take is shown in the gag reel. Right, right. And Azazel, he was the, remember the red one in the X-Men first class who could do the war, the, the, uh, The powers that Nightcrawler has where he can just warp in the red one, Azazel. Okay, Azazel. And in the comics, he was, him and Mystique are the mother and father.
Starting point is 00:15:46 And then in the comics, they changed it last year or the year before. Oh, okay. Michael Fastbender improvised, is this what you want for me, line? And that was great. Powerful line. That was like, I never would have guessed that. That's fantastic. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:16:07 This is the first time that the Summers brothers, Scott Summers, Cyclops, and Alex Summors Havoc appeared together in a live action movie. In the comics, there was another brother, Gabriel Summers, Vulcan, but he's not appeared in any shows or movies, and the filmmakers decided two brothers in a film was enough. Okay. I'll read one more, particularly with Siloak, Nightcrawler, and Cyclops, the outfits and characters looks who were designed to pay homage to their character book counterparts. Differently from the past films, when the X-Men used standard black leather uniforms.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Cyclops costume is taken from Jim Lee's blue and yellow designs in the 90s. Cool. I was going to say, like, some of the costumes, I really, I liked Silox costume. I loved Magneto's costume. I'm trying to think, I thought Apocalypse's looked really cool too. Storm did as well. Storms looked really cool as well. But some of those flight jumpsuits, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Maybe I'm spoiled with the MCU and some of the other films. I wasn't crazy about them personally, but I just think they're very standardy. But if they're the original Jim Lee, whatever you say, then I guess it's okay. Yeah. Not the end of the world. But you guys let us know what did you think about X-Men Apocalypse? Where would you rank it in the 20th century Fox X-Men film rankings? We'd love to hear your thoughts there.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Yeah. The next film we will be doing is Logan. I cannot. Well, first of all, I can't wait to read. re-watch this just because I love that movie so much, but I'm more so. I'm excited for terror to see that film. It's, I can't wait. I'm excited too. Yes. But make sure that you ring the bell, ring the bell. That way you don't miss that reaction. It's going to be a very important one. So we are excited on the journey to Deadpool and Wolverine. And if you have joined us this long, we appreciate it. We love you guys. And we shall see you on the next one. Tots. M'Shea, I'm going to look up your name.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Let's go. Let's go. Drum roll, please. It means who is like God. Ooh! Michiko. The righteous, the righteous way. The path of the righteous man.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Well, I think you've made a righteous choice being here. Oh, look at that. Righteous reject. Because you could have put this $20. towards anything to have helped the world. Yes, you could put it in the church collection tray. Church collection. Could give it to a homeless person.
Starting point is 00:18:34 You could donate it to a charity. You could donate it to a charity. You could donate to an animal, but you chose to put that money here. And you've got to measure righteous. You've got to put on a scale of like what is more righteous. And you've got to face it, this is way more righteous. This is the most righteous thing that could be doing. Is the Church of God going to show you that?
Starting point is 00:18:52 Yeah. No, no. They want you to. They want humility. They want you to. They want you to get credit. They want you to give money without recognition. In silence.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Like it's just a good thing to do or something. What's the point? Over here, though, you're supporting a reasonably okay YouTube channel. A glorious purpose. On top of that, too, you get to get shouted out. I mean, what better way is there to give than for the spotlight to go on you? That's an anointment of a whole other variety, all right? That's going to, like, when you actually get to heaven, God is going to be Starstruck.
Starting point is 00:19:29 He's going to be like, you got shouted out by the region. They never shouted me out. Yeah, see, I know it's like, I wait to do good things when there's someone around. You do something in private. Usually I have to hire a few people before you do a good thing. Yeah, and sometimes, oh, I didn't realize the camera was perfectly placed there on my tripod there. Good thing. I left your recording.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I just always keep it on. As I save this family of mice for being run over by a bicycle. yeah there are specific scenarios you're a hero I'm a hero I saw that footage you saw the footage neighbor saw it god
Starting point is 00:20:04 and so did CNN you know what else I saw footage was michet pledging and I was just like that's even better than the mice thing honestly a little bit better a little bit better
Starting point is 00:20:14 Mishay I hope you're having a righteous September and I hope you watch righteous kill with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro and the righteous gemstones with Danny McBride John Goodman.
Starting point is 00:20:26 There you go. There you go. So you have a great, great time, Richie. Yeah. John loves you. I love you specifically.
