The Road Cut commence. Whoa, whoa. Well, guys, we just watched X-Men, Days of Future Past, The Rogue Cut. So make sure if you are listening on Apple or Spotify to tick out those Wolverine at a man.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Quantum Clause or the Bone Clause, whichever ones you have in your arsenal. And you give us those five-star ratings. You know it will make Tara happy. And also make sure you go to RejectNationShop.com. We got so many cool teas, especially the She-Jex, although I don't see any right now. I'm not wearing it right now. I've got some cool. We've got some great gear and we've got some upcoming gear too.
Starting point is 00:02:20 So make sure you keep an eye out for that. For sure. We got some cool seasonal fall Halloween stuff. Tara, I hyped up this film like crazy. I loved it. so good it deserved the hype like the fact that it's a two and a half hour movie and i wasn't bored once and it just like kept moving and it was so not just like the action stuff obviously great and and getting to see like rogue back and we see storm and like all the old school characters back
Starting point is 00:02:49 and seeing them work together but there was also a lot of emotional depth in this especially when it came to like professor and magneto like them being kind of stuck together in that in the stained glass room but then also seeing uh the past and how it all sort of like comes together especially with in regards to mystique um it was just this is an insane movie a great script uh i loved every bit of I agree. And as mentioned before, this was Tara's first time seeing this. And again, I've seen the theatrical cut, but I've never seen the road cut. And I love, love, love the theatrical cut. Yeah. Nope. Oh. Hold on. Get back to our thoughts in a second. Oh, I've never seen this. Cool. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:03:49 That's great. That's fine. Love that. Like I said, I love the theatrical cut, but I think I like this rogue cut better. You got a couple extra added scenes there. Obviously, you got Rogue coming in here to take over for Kitty because she was wounded from Logan when he had the PTSD triggering vision when he saw Stryker in Paris. And then also, I believe you have that scene with Rogue, or Rogue, excuse me, with, sorry, guys, getting a little distracted here. you have that scene with mystique coming back to the mansion her and Hank kind of getting a little bit of the closure from the first class that we didn't really get to see right so and again I've never seen that so I thought that was a great scene to kind of close the you know kind of book and their romance a little bit and I love a lot of the themes in this movie about acceptance about hope and faith the path to revenge how it leads to a you know this darkness within us can lead to you know can lead to shitty things in the end like it might make us possibly feel better in the moment
Starting point is 00:04:54 but in the end like it leads to a dark path in the future like not only for yourself but for others around you and the rest of the world right so i thought that was uh just really executed in a meticulously beautiful poetic way in this film and i love that right away you the film just nails the tone in the first two minutes you got this post apocalyptic beginning yeah and again they They started it off with the mid-credit scene with the Wolverine. Trask Industries, they're building these sentin. Oh, they didn't say the word sentinels, but they're building these. We got Magneto and Professor Xavier explaining to Logan, there's this threat.
Starting point is 00:05:31 It could wipe us all out. So the stakes are already explained to us in exposition through characters that we love. And now, like, in the first five minutes, like, holy shit. Now we see them. First of all, we got the setting, scary looking, eerie, dreadful, which we haven't really seen in an X-Men film yeah not like this not and then again you've got an enemy we've had we've had some scary-ass villains in the X-Men series in my opinion overpower them yeah but nothing like this was like a threat level like we've again never seen like there was no way of stopping yeah the future
Starting point is 00:06:05 sentinels that we got here it's like it's impossible and I love the comparison that you made at the beginning they're straight up Terminators uh ones that cannot be stopped at all right and the only way to stop it is to change the future by going in the past. And I just, I love the story. I love the dialogue, the exposition, the acting. And I love that we got the cast from the first class, most of the cast from
Starting point is 00:06:27 first class, at least the main actors, and most of the cast from the original meshing together. And I thought they just worked seamlessly, especially Hugh Jackman with McAvoy, with Fastbender and Nicholas Holt and Jennifer Lawrence. And then obviously you got that one legendary scene too with
Starting point is 00:06:43 the two Xavier's working together. I just thought they all worked so great together they had such great interactions obviously you got this storyline being built from days of future past it's a very um popular uh comic as i mentioned to you again i have it it's been years since i saw that comic book i know um bishop uh was the one that got sent into the past um it would have been interesting to see him i just think you know with how we're invested and drawn with uh with wolverine i think it was more i think that was the smarter choice to make here. And again, if you guys disagree and give me reasons in the comment section, why you think Bishop was the better choice, I'm all, I'm happy to read it. I
Starting point is 00:07:24 always have an open mind about these things. I just personally think, I just have such a love for Hugh Jackman. And I think, again, because we were so personally invested in Logan, I just think it was the proper storyline. But they also gave a good background. Like, he's the one that could survive that trip and re and heal. Yeah. And again, guys, this is just a nitpick. I think it, I understand what they were going for with the, you know, Mystique shot Trask, and that caused a ripple effect, a butterfly effect, if you will, in terms of, okay, so now they got the gene from Mystique. They experimented on her, and then, you know, that turned into, and 50 years later that they would turn that into the future Sentinels, and that's how they're able to adapt and destroy
Starting point is 00:08:04 the X-Men. Again, guys, correct me if I'm wrong in the comments. I thought that Trask was in X-Men, the last stand, played by Bill Dool. Duke. So I was just, and we were still on that same timeline when the film started. I know at the end of the film, it's now reset. I was just a little confused that if she shot Trask, as it was pointed out in the beginning in 1973, then who the hell was Bill Duke playing in X-Men the Last Stand? That's kind of like either a red con or it doesn't make any, or a continuity mistake, or I don't know, but let me know in the comments because I was a little confused by that. Yeah, but just overall, great action, great visual effects. We got to talk about that quick silver scene. First of all, great performance by Evan Peters. He was, I love how charming he was, how funny he was, the charisma he brought, and also the pain in the ass like James McAvoy calls called him. He was awesome. I know he wasn't in the film a ton, but he was so damn effective in the 15 or 20 minutes he was on screen.
Starting point is 00:09:02 Yeah, because he wasn't on there a bunch. Yeah, but that scene. What did you think of that scene? Like, are you talking about when they're on the... The slow motion scene in the kitchen. Oh, yeah. I mean, obviously. That's the standout.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, because I was like, which scene is that's the main one that I was like talking about even during it. I'm curious as to how they shot that. Mainly, I want to watch a BTS on it. But yeah, I mean, visually, that is probably only 15 to 20 minutes into the movie and you're already getting what could be in other movies a finale getting closer to the end, like a finale type of a cool scene. But this movie just throws badass.
Starting point is 00:09:42 stuff like that in there. And it was phenomenal to see because we hadn't really seen much of his much of his like powers, not in that way. And that scene gave us, I think, exactly what we needed to know not only from his character, because he got to play with like his expressions and how and how he makes those moves, but also shows us his powers, which was amazing. I loved it. I loved how cocky and arrogant he was too, which is. During the whole time even moving the people, it's like a game for him. Yeah. Which I love. Again, such a... That shows off his personality.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Such an incredible action sequence. I'm going to look up the trivia in a second, but again, such an emotional storyline. I loved all the arcs. I loved Mystique, too, just learning to not go down that path of darkness, revenge and seeing the reason why she shouldn't. And then Charles learning acceptance and learning not to be afraid of his own pain and morale and all that. It's just a great damn storyline. It's also great, like, with the Blue Grun.
Starting point is 00:10:42 when he walked away from, you know, her when they were like about to juice it because he didn't have enough self-love. But then when you see the world reset, he's like walking with quite a stride there and just being like, hey man, what's up? Type of a thing. And again, he's at his school. So it's not like I get it. It's a different vibe. But I would like to think that Blue Grinch found that because it seems like everyone else kind of did throughout this film, which I like in the self-discovery area. Yeah, no for sure. With all the craziness of the media in the year of 2024,
Starting point is 00:11:19 the news is more rampant than ever. And staying properly informed can feel like navigating a maze in the dark. And with all the biased and confusing news out there, it's hard to know who to trust. But don't worry. I found a guiding line on the chaos of media. Straight Arrow News. Straight Arrow News offers a refreshing approach with unbiased,
Starting point is 00:11:40 fact-based reporting. There's no spins or agendas. Just straightforward facts. It's an app and a website that delivers news the way it should be fair and balanced. Starting point is 00:11:59 And straight-over news, it's like having a personal news assistant. Real news for real people just like you and me. R-E-E-L. R-E-A-L. I guess I'll stay.
Starting point is 00:12:26 So do yourself in favor and check out Straight Hour News. You can visit SAN.com slash real rejects and download the app. Trust me, it's a decision you will not regret. Let's stay informed together. All righty, so at around the 18-minute mark, the script called, for Logan to wake up in 1973 in boxer shorts. Hugh Jackman vetoed this in favor of waking nude saying, and I quote, in Australia, if you're next to a really good looking girl, you're not getting out with boxer shorts on or briefs or anything. And also to look, Hugh Jackman's in ridiculously good
Starting point is 00:12:57 shape. He's like, look, if I'm going to get in this good a shape for you guys, I'm going to show off my boon down. I got to show it off. Sorry guys. My ears hurt so bad. I've been wearing these headphones for like six hours. So if you ever see us do this guys, it's because our, I'm not trying to listen to him. My ears are just freaking killing me. Just so you know in the future, guys. Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen were performing in a touring production of Waiting for Godot. I hope I pronounce it, right?
Starting point is 00:13:23 When Brian Singer approached the actors about reprising the respective roles as Professor X and Magneto, according to McKellen, both men were utterly shocked as they thought they had passed their roles onto McAvoy and Fastbender and would never play the characters again. Stuart and McKellen were delighted to return to two of them. popular roles and to work with their young with the younger actors playing the same character as well like I said I thought the the um seeing McAvoy and Professor Xavier get back in there is Patrick Stewart it was like such a great scene yeah seeing the mash and mixing together I just thought it was just it was so beautiful to watch as much as I love first
Starting point is 00:14:02 class and that movie is phenomenal but seeing old school and new school together was just so cool yeah according to Peter Dinklage uh the director picked him to play Bolver Trask because of his height, stating, with my dwarfism, I'm a bit of a mutant. I can't move metal or anything, but I thought of it as self-loathing. Deep down, Trask is quite sensitive about the aspect of himself. Oh, yeah. Love that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Including his cameo in X-Men first class, this is Hugh Jackman's seventh portrayal of Logan, aka Wolverine, which raised his own record for most times a comic book character has been played by the same actor in theatrical films. Jackman is also the only actor to appear in every X-Men film in the franchise up to Logan, which he announced as the final time. However, he made an exception for Deadpool and Wolverine.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Oh, okay. Yeah. At around 18 minutes, when Wolverine wakes up in the past, the woman in bed with him calls him Jimmy. According to the comics and later movies, Wolverine's name at birth was James Howlett. As his birth father was Thomas Logan, he inherited that certain.
Starting point is 00:15:08 name. And we remember in X-Men Origins Wolverine, Sabretooth, always called him Jimmy. Yeah, yeah. You were reminding me of that in this one. The filmmakers selected Days of Future Past storyline because it would allow the filmmakers to reconcile any continuity dissonance with the X-Men film franchise. The time travel element also allowed actors and actresses from the first three films and X-Men First Class to appear in the same movie together. But when we do get done with this trivia, I do want to see if Bill Duke was playing trash just to see. I mean, I'm sure people have already commented about it anyways, but I I'm so just curious.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Brian Singer filmed Quicksilver scenes. Here we go. In a special format of 3,600 frames per second. This means the Quicksilver moved 150 times faster than normal. The camera was used to record close-ups and movements of Evan Peters as well as the guards he beat. Wow. Okay, cool. Got it.
Starting point is 00:16:01 I'd still want to see the BTS of that. According to the director, he could only get the movie started with confidence once Hugh Jack Mr. Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen agreed to return. Well, that's a good starting point. Love that. Bishop is the first mutant kiddie pride sends through time. This is an homage to Bishop being a frequent time traveler in the X-Men comics. I'll do like three more.
Starting point is 00:16:23 We'll call it. Sir Patrick Stewart enjoyed James McAvoy's light-heated performance, light-hearted, excuse me, light-hearted performance as Charles Xavier in X-Men first class and had wanted to try a similar performance with Xavier instead of keeping him grave and sober he got his wish with this movie in the altered future his xavier is just a bit jollier yeah i can see that yeah okay well also too being in such a uh i mean in that post apocalyptic future like he gave that that even though it was still the same xavier from the the previous films in such a terrible uh time like he still gave that that uh a glimpse of that old professor
Starting point is 00:17:05 with uh but still and have that that uh that hope that we wanted and he transferred that over to um to macavoy's uh Xavier like when he needed it the most when he had lost all hope and fame right and that was like the heart of the film yeah i agree the original days of future past comic mentioned time travel from the year 2013 the same year in which filming began that's cool in this movie the future action is implied to take place in 2023 oh we just missed this by a year wild I did not know uh okay a couple of Simple more. At the beginning as the mutants and humans marched down the corridor, a quick glimpse is shown of an older Quicksilver from behind. He's directly in the center of the frame is easy to spot with the same hairstyle and hat his younger self has in the movie. Oh, okay. That was at the one minute mark. I'll have to re-watch that sometime. This is the first X-Men movie ever to be nominated for an Oscar Best Visual Effects after that Quicksilver scene. Understandably so. Yeah, duh.
Starting point is 00:18:07 I'd love to know what one did. So good. I'd love to know what beat it for best visual effects. All right, last two, I promise. The director at around the one hour, two minute mark when Mystique jumps out of the building and onto the ground below in Paris after attempting to kill Trask. Singer is a photographer who is briefly seen holding up a camera. And last one, quicksilver's slow motion sequence was filmed with mostly practical visual effects, high-speed photography, and stunt rigs. with CGI used only for the objects in midair.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Okay, that's what I thought. CGI in the midair. Okay, got it. Great. That's awesome. Yep. That's great. I love that.
Starting point is 00:18:48 There's so much more. Yeah, I'm sure. We've already read a lot. Yeah, we've read a lot. But, again, I think Tara and most of you can understand why this is one of my favorite X-Men film. It's hard to tell for me. I mean, I love them all.
Starting point is 00:19:02 I don't know if I could give you right at this moment. My ranking between this one, X2, X-Men. United and X-Men first class. I just think they're the, well, that and also Logan would be the creme de la creme of the X-Men films. And also, I love Deadpool so much. So I'm excited for you to get to that. Yeah. But those are like when it comes to the Mount Rushmore.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Crem de la Crem. The Crem de la Crem. But this one was really, really great. I think because we got to see them all, like, in their past and their future. Like, it's such a great idea and a great film to make so that we get to see them actually work together. And I think there's just, there's not even one thing that I could say was like wrong with this movie. It's just so great. And just so Tara can verify Bill Duke.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Bill Duke, yes. And who does he play in X-Men the Last Man? Trask. Yeah. So it makes no sense to me. He's playing Trask. But they said in this timeline, which was the same timeline as X-Men the Last Stand before it got reset at the end, that Mystique killed him in 1973. Well, how is that possible if he's in X-Men the Last Stand?
Starting point is 00:20:05 It makes no sense. again let us know in the comments well because she didn't shoot him so then maybe the future is like no but she did shoot him and originally until it got reset does that make sense until she made the decision to fix it maybe they knew that maybe they knew when they made the last movie that the next movie was going to be a reset they they must have known maybe who knows oh my god right again it works for the storyline in this
Starting point is 00:20:31 but I'm just saying it's a continuity or it's a red con whatever the case it just it didn't make sense don't forget to leave a link to X-Men T-shirts, because I still need to get one. I've been just, like, loving this franchise. I love it so much. Yeah, no, it's great. I... I've watched it. I could be totally wrong if I am. Apologies.
Starting point is 00:20:48 I believe the very next film we're doing, I think is Deadpool. I could be wrong, but I believe it's Deadpool, which... I can't wait. We're going to laugh a shit ton in that. Love it. Yeah, there's a great storyline there. So, I'm so excited. It's been a while since I re-watch that one. So, yes,
Starting point is 00:21:04 if you don't want to miss that, Tara's going to tell you that you need to. Ring the bell. Ring the bell. That way you are notified when that video drops in the rest of our videos that we were doing on our journey to Deadpool and Wolverine because we're going to get there soon.
