Zombieland Reaction, Recap, Breakdown, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review! Join Andrew Gordon and Tara Erickson as they dive into the hilarious and action-packed world of Zombieland: Double Tap. Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom), this sequel reunites us with our favorite zombie slayers: Woody Harrelson (True Detective, The Hunger Games) as Tallahassee, Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Now You See Me) as Columbus, Emma Stone (La La Land, Easy A) as Wichita, and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Scream Queens) as Little Rock. The film also introduces new characters like Madison, portrayed by Zoey Deutch (Set It Up, The Politician), Nevada, played by Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Daredevil), Albuquerque, portrayed by Luke Wilson (Old School, Legally Blonde), and Flagstaff, played by Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley, Godzilla: King of the Monsters). In this reaction, they explore iconic scenes such as the "Monster Truck vs. Zombies" showdown, the "RV Gunfight" featuring Wichita and Madison, and the "Hotel Bar Fight" with Nevada and Albuquerque. Memorable quotes like Tallahassee's "It's time to nut up or shut up" and Columbus's "Rule #2: Double Tap" are highlighted, showcasing the film's blend of humor and horror. Don't miss their insights into the group's adventures, the evolution of zombie classifications, and the dynamics of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. Zombie Land
Double Tap
Commence
Comeance
That was a lot of fun
I'm glad
They got Bill Murray for that.
And we got to look on what Day Zero look like, too.
That's cool.
That was fun.
Awesome.
Tara, awesome.
I'll leave the credits rolling just in case they want to give us something else.
Well, gang, we just watched Zombiland double tap.
Make sure you guys double tap those ratings.
If you are listening on Apple or Spotify, give us five-star ratings.
Also, Rejectnationshop.com where you can get cool merch like this.
Get her done.
If you want to get a special, she just.
Jek's sweater like this where
Tara hand paints it herself
DM her. She will
let you know how much that costs.
I want one myself. I will keep
telling Tara until I get one.
You know what? I will start off with this
one. We obviously we love
the first one. A great amount. I really
I'm not going to get into the
comparison game and if I like this one more in the first
one, all I say is I really enjoyed this one
a lot. I
think these films are very inventive.
I think they do a great
job of balancing between the comedy, the horror aspects and just infusing the two. And also, too,
I think they do a great job with the characters. We were so invested, obviously, in the first
film with these characters. And right away in the very beginning, I love, again, we built up that
camaraderie from the last film. And I love when a sequel can start off and just showing, okay,
look at the, like, as I just mentioned, the camaraderie we've built. And I love that opening sequence.
showing that, you know, we've spent a lot of time together and that it was such a fun opening
sequence. I thought this film, too, pacing-wise, really, you know, was really, really tight.
It was not a slow burn in any way. It was really quick-paced, which sometimes can be a problem
in terms of, oh, my God, like, I need time to process some of these things. Everything's cutting
really quick. And I thought for this film, like, it actually worked to its benefit. It didn't really
bother me in any way. I thought, again, it was just, like, really got right to the point right
away. Like, we immediately introduced a conflict in regards to, I forgot Abigail Breslin's
name in terms of which state she's from, but right away, like we see with her, like everyone's
pretty comfortable in the family dynamic. You got Woody Harrelson who, Tallahassee, who has lost
a child, I believe, in the first film. But now he embraces that with Abigail Breslin's character,
which I love. I love that dynamic between the two of them. And then obviously with Emma Stone and
Jesse Eisenberg, who their chemistry is really electric. They're so polar opposite, which I love,
but you still love the dynamic between those two as well. And I can understand she kind of
feels like a third wheel in the four of them, Abigail Breslin's character. And she wants to
live a little, like, away from them. She wants to find love because she sees it with these two.
Also, she feels like she's being pampered like a little child with Woody Harrelson.
She still loves him, but it's like, hey, I'm a grown-up now.
Like, I want to be treated as such.
So I thought they did a good job of introducing a conflict within the character,
and that kind of sets the plot going, which I got a lot more to say with the action and such
and all the introduction of all the other characters, but I want to give Tara some time.
What did you think of the film?
Yeah, I thought it was a lot of fun.
I think the difficulty when you're going from Zambiland 1 is quite a hit.
It's so much fun.
You go to two.
When you're a writer, where you have to take these characters is you have to focus on real-life issues as if we're going into a sequel, what's really going to happen is that them two in the beginning, they're in a lull.
He asked her to marry him.
She's like, no, it's like, it scares her.
And she's like never get attached, right?
They're still operating in their own rules, which I think is very important to show.
to still keep those character size.
And also what would happen to a preteen to a teenager growing up,
even though it's a zombie apocalypse,
we still have to pay attention to the natural human behavior
of the people in the script,
which I think these writers do a very good job up
because Abigail Breslin's role is like, sure,
what would happen if you're preteen to a teenager,
regardless of what she's seeing in her home,
she's like, I'm supposed to be with other teenagers
and like experimenting, basically.
Basically. Hold on one sec, Tara. I'm sorry. Oh, God, he's still doing the hairball.
Oh, my God, I can't. Pardon my accent.
So dumb. Love it. I think that they did a good job in the writing of following them as the characters.
What would happen in everyday life minus a zombie apocalypse. People would be together for a long time.
They go through a low. Maybe they're like married, not.
ready yet, who knows? Obviously, a teenager growing up is going to react the same way. Obviously,
you know, Woody Harrelson's character as the dad is going to get offended that the teenager
wants to leave. I just thought they did a good job, even though they're not actually blood family.
They are operating as a family and they obviously all very much love each other whilst a zombie
apocalypse is going on, how you incorporate that into the script to make it feel still just as fun,
just as quick pace, just as like, oh, as dangerous.
I thought they did a really good job of that.
The one moment that we had was really just in the White House,
where they showed us a picturesque life of them as a family
and what they could have.
But it wasn't really, I don't think, enough for them.
And I think that them setting up the proposal,
gone wrong and Abigail Bresden's character,
leaving is what it gets them out of there.
But I think it also shows us that those characters,
they wouldn't have lasted that long
being in that type of situation
and have remained happy.
And so at the end of the film is where
that's why he says, home is basically where we are, right?
Home is where the heart is.
It's not where the location is.
So I really liked the way that this one was written
and how we got there.
And I thought that it was smartly done
especially in writing the characters made it very believable.
Agreed.
And also, too, I agree with everything you just said.
And also piggybacking off one of your other points when you said that, you know,
he was affected like a dad would be when she left.
I also loved seeing how affected he was by her choice of the boyfriend, the hipster.
You hated it.
Yeah, he's a pacifist and he's a song.
Again, just the hipster type.
Like, that is so polar opposite in him.
And again, his reaction is so genuine.
It's like it really, again, that father-daughter dynamic.
Yeah, no, for sure.
But that father-daughter dynamic.
I just, like, that's what I'm saying.
I love the, again, the four of them together is fantastic.
The chemistry they all have as actors and their interactions are so great.
But I also love, too, when we split off the dynamics between Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin, they're great together.
And as well as Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg, they're great together, too, and obviously the four of them.
Also, too, I like that this film did a great.
good job. Before I get into some of the new characters, which we'll get into in a sec,
I like the evolution of the abilities of the zombies. Like you have the T-800s. It adds to the
dynamic of the stakes. Because we feel like, okay, you can't just use guns and then we're safe.
Right. It's like, no, like double tap doesn't even work anymore. Like they can just get right up and
keep coming. I also love the thing that they introduced at the beginning with the Homer. And I love too,
how meta got with showing the graphic as The Simpsons. That was awesome.
Awesome with the donut and the graphic design of the Simpsons.
And then also you got the hawkings, which are extremely smart.
I thought that was really cool, too, using the eyeball to show that they can get into place and they have, you know, high brain function.
So, like, again, that just adds to, I mean, because usually when you associate with zombies or something, it's like, okay, I'll just run, but they're not in a thinking position to come after me.
As long as I run and use my brain, I can out with them.
so I did like that that they did I thought that was pretty smart writing
in regards to characters I know it could be a little tedious at times
but I just love the way Zoe Deutsch I believe her name is
I love the way she played that bimbo I think it was her performance I mean
I mean there were some good lines for her for sure but I think it was her performance
that really won me over because there were some times where I'm like this could
I could see on a page reading this I'm like I'm going to do this is going to get
annoying for the audience, but I just love the way she did it. She really put a lot of heart
into the performance and also, too, like, I just, I love her naivete and also I loved
she was just, everything was just so nonchalant with her. And I don't know, I kind of grew
to the character and I just found it funny, especially in this type of environments. Like, I don't
think she realizes that she's in a zombie apocalypse. I just thought it was like a lot of, I know
we're in a zomcom and like there's already levity in that because they infuse the the balance between
comedy and um and and the horror aspect but i thought her character which is so out of left field from
most of the characters that are in this type of film in the first film i thought it was a breath of fresh air
with her her type of character and i also love the inclusion of rizhario dawson i really thought
she was a really uh interesting contrast to woody harrelson yeah they were kind of similar but also
too like she is the perfect woman for him yeah and he deserves it because he's been i mean everyone in
this world has been through a lot obviously they've all endured hardships and loss yeah but i feel like
for him too because he i don't remember if he had a woman in the first movie in terms of when they
showed the flashback i just remember it was shown as a dog but really it was just a kid i don't think so
either way i'm i'm happy that he's now got a a daughter here and now he's got a woman so um yeah
I know some fun inclusion with, did you have a personal favorite new character?
Was it Zoe Deutsch or was it Rosario Dawson?
Or what did you think about having those new characters, rather?
Yeah, I mean, I like the inclusion of both.
I mean, obviously, Doge is a really, really good actress.
I mean, Howard is a great director and that's her dad.
I'm sure he gave her great notes, but also she's probably just instinctually growing up around in her family to actors, which is awesome.
but I think I more specifically was drawn to Rosario Dawson's character
because she's solo, she's on her own, she's a badass.
That's like the type of character is I'm always drawn to just like
what is her name, Redhead?
Emma Stone.
Yeah, just like Emma Stone's character and Rosario Dawson,
their type of toad is the one that I would be drawn to as an actor.
But I like that Rosario Dawson didn't choose to go like,
can you take me with you, I will go with you,
hope can you come back?
None of that was there, which I was like, yeah, good.
You should, the way that they wrote his dialogue of saying she's not going to do that,
I was like, yes, I really, really love that.
And then, of course, bringing her in for her to save the day is a much stronger writing move.
And it also conveys her character a little bit more.
she's not just a girl who got lucky surviving on her own in this Graceland area, right?
Yeah.
She's smart enough, has enough balls and enough smarts and enough weapons to survive this long.
It wasn't like she just got lucky, which is a little bit the other Bimbo's character that
she just stayed in a freezer, that she was just sort of, which is still another funny thing, right?
It's as though the Bimbo is just lucky.
She has mace, so she's not a complete, right?
But she's just sort of gotten lucky and floated her way through life,
which when you look at women or just people in general who are very pretty and have it together,
nice clothes, pretty smile, beautiful hair, it's like they can be seen as sort of floating through life
that they're kind of lucky.
And she had it this way in this zombie land apocalypse, which I think is very close to like real world life,
which I think is very fun writing.

True story, Reject Nation.
I was over there editing, drinking this hule right here.

And I was like, perfect.
Turn the camera on people.
Because I would love to talk about them.
Why?
Because I have some pretty serious health and weight loss goals.
On January 25th, I weighed 218 pounds.
And on the day of filming this, I currently weigh 199.3.
There's more goals.
I got to go hit.
But you know what?
In this time of goal hitting,
A thing I've been drinking a couple of times a week.

yeah um do you have trivia i do in one second i will i just uh i love everything uh you were just
pointing out um i also will say that uh in regards to uh blonde bim or zoi doge deutch's character
um i do love though that she finds a love interest i think that was nice to give her like because
she was so infatuated with jesse eisenberg so i'm happy to see that she gets a happy end
but also too with Rosario Dawson you know her coming I'm sure I'm probably there's a bunch of comments saying I've seen the film because I was able to call this film I don't think this film was relying on we're gonna we're a little bit predictable I don't think it cared about being a little predictable and that's why I was like that's why in that moment I was like I don't know what else can happen here besides her coming in with a big truck that's why I kind of predicted that right there but also too it kind of reminded me of when Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisberg came in to save them from the theme park I was also kind of thinking of
Yeah, exactly. I called that out and I've never seen this movie.
We watched too many movies to not know the plot point.
But also, too, I think this film did a great job of giving some callbacks to the first film as well.
And I love when films can do it in a fun satisfying way and not do it over the top and like be a distraction when it does it.
So I appreciated those moments.
Yeah, I agree with that.
You made some great points though.
Let me, I will get into trivia, just as we always do really quick, Tara.
Yeah.
What did the film get Rotten Tomatoes on the, uh, the,
critics and on the audience. Okay, let's say that the critics went like, uh, 72, but the audience
was 87? You are insanely close on both. Oh, what is it? So you said 72 for the critics.
I did. 68. Ooh. You said 87 for the audience. Yeah. 88. Ah, that was pretty close. Tara is on it.
All right, Tara, let's do worldwide box office. So we are combining the domestic and the international. We're doing the
worldwide box office what is your prediction god um 2002 million 120 million okay that's still very good
i wish it made more than that yeah that that number really worries me about a third movie
because i feel like i don't know what the budget was in that but i just don't know if they're
going to make an investment because i want i know we both want would love to see a third movie it's
just i don't know if they're they're going to invest in a third movie with
that overall, but I think it shouldn't
made more than that personally. Anyway, so I'll do
some trivia. The story that Tallahassee tells
in the hotel about his Elvis impersonation
is the true story of how Woody Harrelson
got into acting. I love that. What? That's awesome.
That is so cool. Wow. That might be one of my favorite
trivia facts I've ever read on this channel.
That's awesome. Read in general. Yeah. That is so cool.
Oh my God. I just thought that was a cool story
in the movie for his character. Now, that
the fact that that's a real life story. Oh my God.
Hell yeah. Awesome.
The Elvis Presley classic Burning Love that is played during the end credits.
Oh, so that was an Elvis Presley song.
Was performed by Woody Harrelson.
Wow.
Yeah, he's a good voice.
He does.
I mean, we even mentioned during the reaction, we're like,
you can sing.
Yeah, he can.
Get it.
Jesse Eisenberg said that it was very difficult to keep a straight face while filming scenes with Zoe Deutsch.
I can imagine that because we were laughing.
our ass. I can imagine on sets.
Yeah. I'm sorry. I know you're acting your ass off, but you're going to have to do this again.
I'm sorry. Oh, boy. The scene in which Columbus stands on top of an RV directing Tallahassee in
Wichita to which direction the zombies are coming from came from the final battle in an early
draft of the first Zambuland film, which involved Columbus and Tallahassee doing the same thing at
an abandoned gas station. Cool. Oh, cool. So they pulled from that, put it in here. I love that.
Cool. Ryan Reynolds was considered for the role of Albuquerque but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. I believe Albuquerque ended up being Luke Wilson.
Yes. Which makes more sense to me. Yeah. You mean Luke Wilson makes more sense than Ryan Reynolds. Okay. Yeah. I think I agree with you on that one.
Tallahassee at one point signs a presidential pardon for Wesley Snipes who was convicted of tax evasion in 2010. I figured that's why I figured that had to do with the tax evasion. And as I said that,
Woody Harrelson and him had done two films together.
One of them was White Man Can't Jump,
White Man Can't Jump, which was directed by Ron Shelton.
The other one was a 1995 film called...
Oh, they also did Wildcats.
I did not know that.
And also a 1995 film called Money Train.
I did know that.
Okay.
When Tallahassee prepares to depart,
Columbus expresses his hope to hear a better goodbye
than the pig he used last time in Zambi land.
Tallahassee tried saying goodbye by quoting,
that'll do pig from Babe,
which Columbus called the worst goodbye I've ever heard.
Oh, okay.
I knew there was some kind of reference to that.
I forgot that one.
Okay.
Was released as a celebration for the 10th anniversary of the first film.
The first film was 2009.
This one was 2019.
Oh, wow.
10 years.
That is a long time for a sequel.
Yeah, because I feel like the first film was so good that they...
According to special effects makeup head, Tony Gardner,
all the returning cast had script approval,
but actor Woody Harrelson also has...
had vomit approval in the scene where Zoy Deutsch gets sick.
Harrelson requested a chunkier spew.
The Altirian crew happily obliged by mixing up a delicious blend of vanilla pudding,
a little honey, some almond milk, and hunks of granola for bulk.
Yummy.
Michael Sarah turned down the role of Flagstaff.
That would have been a good matchup too.
I could totally see it because so many people have like often said they have.
I have that exact same dry humor those two.
Yeah.
That would have been fine.
But I thought the other actor who played Flagstaff was really good too.
I'll do one more and then I'll go to a couple spoilers really quick.
Columbus mentions that Madison is almost as pretty as 406 in the previous film,
A Zombie Land, the first one.
Columbus lived in apartment 408 and 406 was his pretty neighbor lady played by Amber,
who turned into a zombie and tried to eat him.
Right.
Yeah, we mentioned that during the ranch.
All right, let's do two or three spoilers and we shall call it a day.
All righty.
Luke Wilson and Thomas Middle Ditch's characters are called Albuquerque and Flagstaff respectfully.
These were going to be the original names of Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg's characters respectfully.
Yeah, respectfully before Tallahassee and Columbus were chosen for them in the original film.
Okay, I love that.
So they just brought it back.
Yeah, cool.
A poster for Garfield 3 can be seen in the mall before Columbus finds Madison.
We did say it because we're like, yeah, we're like, what a fun easy.
Easter egg. Yeah. All right. Last two. The end of the film reveals that day zero, the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, coincided with the 2009 release of Garfield 3, Flabby, tabby, and shows a zombie outbreak during the press interviews for the film with Bill Murray. Of course, this is just a fun parody as Bill Murray never made a third Garfield film. I didn't even know that. Cool. Last one. While killing zombies during the mid-credit scene, Bill Murray quotes several lines from some of his most famous movies, including Ghostbusters.
Yeah, which you called too.
Love it.
Awesome.
Well, guys, if you stayed with us this song, we so appreciate it.
Let us know in the comments section, what you thought of Zombie Land double tap.
Did you like it more than the first film?
Did you like it as much as the first film?
Do you think we should get a third film?
I know it's going to be tough with the box office of that, but I know Tara as well as myself.
I want it.
We want a third film so badly.
So again, if you stayed with us this long, we so appreciate and love you guys.
And we'll see you on whatever video we are on next.
Take care.
Don't let any zombies bite you.
Cotty ha.
Cotty ha.
Wow.
Wow.
Well, you know what you're getting shouted on today?
This reaction, which is zombie land, double tap.
Double tap in this shout out to you.
I got to say, if Cotter had turned into a zombie,
I don't know if I could put Cadi Ha down.
I don't think so.
Probably have this shone of the dead.
I'd have to lock you in a cage
so we can both look
at our only fans accounts together
and that's what we would have to do.
The ones that we made ourselves.
2025 reboot, Sean of the Dead, you know,
we got to do something more modern.
Yeah, totally. That's what modern pals do.
Look at only fans accounts together.
Yes.
And that's what I would do with you
if you were a zombie.
Dude, that's only friends right there.
And that's the name of the subtitle of
our spiritual sequel reboot.
Hey.
So, yeah, man.
I'm sorry.
I know you probably want to be put out of your misery
because in my mind when you're a zombie,
I think you're probably still in there suffering
wanting out of this hellscape.
But I'm too selfish.
I like you too much.
Can't be away from you for too long.
Can't put the bullet in the noggin.
So we're going to get on some iPads,
get on some iPhones,
turn on some Macs,
and we're going to look at famous only fan stars
