You become what you think about.
What does that statement actually mean?
In today's episode, we're going to be talking about how you can change your thoughts
and the exact mechanics around changing your thoughts so you can change your life.
It is important to realize that when people talk about our thoughts,
there are different components of the mind that we have to keep in mind.
So the first component of the mind is your conscious mind.
That part of the mind is what is listening to me right now,
what is aware of the words that are being said in this moment.
The conscious mind is only a small,
portion of your total mind. The majority or the larger component of your mind is what is called
the subconscious mind. Within the subconscious mind, this is where your habits are. This is where your
beliefs are. This is where your values, your paradigms are embedded. And the thoughts in your subconscious
mind are the ones that actually determine the quality of your life. A common misconception a lot of people have,
is that when they engage in self-talk, positive self-talk, when they engage in affirmation,
mantras, or what Napoleon Hill refers to as auto-suggestion,
when they say something, they think what they're saying will actually change their life.
However, the intention of an affirmation, the intention of self-talk
is actually to retrain your subconscious mind so that it can transform your belief.
And these beliefs or habitual thought patterns within your subconscious mind are the ones
that radiate into the quantum field and determine the quality of your life.
You become what you think about most of the time and what we think about most of the time
is a result of habit.
And like any habit within your life, that habit is under the control of the subconscious mind
because a habit is something that you can do without even thinking.
thinking without any thought.
And habits are formed through repetition, through practicing something consciously on a consistent
basis.
And so another way of saying it is, when a thought has been practiced multiple times, it becomes
a habit.
And so with affirmations, with mantras, with auto suggestions, a lot of us need to consider
that changing them and reframing them so that we can actually shift the way our subconscious mind
is radiating these intentions. If you are on the fence about the effectiveness of affirmations,
we have to realize that in our day-to-day life, we are already using affirmations. However, most
people use them in a disempowering way. And so most people use affirmations like, I am not good,
enough. I don't like myself. Nobody likes me. I am unlucky. Or the user statements like,
why don't things ever work out for me? When will I ever get my chance? And so in saying these
things to themselves, they are actually affirming them towards themselves, which when they repeat
that is impacting their subconscious mind. And so the idea is to become conscious and take charge
of this process so you can start changing your thoughts and finally start transforming your life.
The second tool to shift the way you think and to start training and retraining your subconscious
mind is to nourish your mind with information that is positive. We have heard the common phrase,
you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. But have you ever considered
that this doesn't necessarily mean that you have to hang around with these people in person.
If you spend most of your time listening, reading, studying, great thought leaders,
you are in a sense spending time with them.
And the more you engage with their material,
the more you start changing the way you are thinking,
so you can start thinking, feeling, and acting in ways that is similar to them.
You have access to a lot of information at your fingertips, and there's lots of self-help books,
biographies, autobiographies that allow you to spend time with great thinkers.
This podcast is just a platform to expose you to some of them.
However, if you commit to studying these great thinkers and make it a daily habit to read,
to listen to their works, then you start to study.
shifting and training and inundating your subconscious mind with information that will start
shifting the way you think.
How you think impacts how you feel.
And how you feel impacts the decisions and the way you behave.
And so taking control of your mind will allow you to take control of your life.
And if you choose not to take conscious control of your mind, I promise you that someone else
some entity, some institution is in control of it.
And so the exciting thing about this is that if you have been thinking the same way for the past 20, 40, 60 years,
it is not going to take you that long to start changing the way you think, maybe a couple of months or a couple of years.
An example that illustrates how thoughts influence our experiences is, let's say we've got two individuals.
person A who loves dogs and person B who is absolutely afraid of dogs
when these two people are put in the exact same situation let's say a dog park
they will have drastically different experiences person A who loves dogs will likely
feel good and want to interact with the dogs reinforcing their love and the thoughts
that they have for the dogs
person B will want to run away and as we know some dogs love to chase and so if person B runs
away and is chased by a dog even if the dog is playing it will reinforce their
thoughts that dogs are dangerous and should be should be feared if you were to talk to
these two people 25 years later you will see that person A would have had
more positive experiences with dogs than person B. Person B, on the other hand,
will have had more scary experiences or negative experiences with dogs. So why is
this illustration important? Because humanity has got a lot of shared
experiences who have all had some form of heart breaks, maybe financial situations,
negative experiences, and some people
tend to be drastically negatively affected by those experiences and in extreme cases
actually develop PTSD. However, there are some people who also go through similar
experiences and experience what is called post-traumatic growth or PTSD. And so our
thoughts, our ability to become conscious of them and change them will not only impact
our life, but will impact how we are perceiving, how we are interacting with those experiences,
even when those experiences are negative. You are in the driver's seat of your thoughts, and you have
the power to shift and transform the way you think. And based on who you are as a person,
your past experiences, and your uniqueness as a human being, you can change the way you think,
and it might take you longer than others, might take your short amount of time.
But the idea of this process is to be patient and to allow the process to take as long as it needs to take.
However long it will take, realize that life is a process.
And just as we need to nourish our body with food, until we die,
we have to continue nourishing our thoughts with empowering information,
becoming conscious of what we are thinking and the way we are talking to ourselves,
and gaining control of that process.
And once we start gaining control of that process,
I promise you that your life will dramatically improve
in ways that you cannot even imagine.
Remember, we are what we think about most of the time.
And those are the famous words of Earl Nightingale.
Thank you.
