The idea that our thoughts are responsible for our life
is a perspective that has been shared by many great thinkers in history.
Marcus Aurelius is quoted saying,
Our Life is what our thoughts make of it.
or Buddha, who is quoted saying, we are what we think,
all that we are arises with our thoughts.
With our thoughts, we make the world.
And finally, Ale Nightingale in his popular LP recording says,
we become what we think about most of the time.
If you've ever read a self-help book such as Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill,
The Magic of Thinking Big by David Shultz, the magic of believing by Claude Bristol,
they all share the same theme.
And that theme is, our thoughts create our reality.
If this is the case, which it is, why don't most people have what they want?
Is it because the perspective I just covered does not work?
Is it because it's untrue?
Or is there something else that is going on?
I believe that the reason why most people don't actually have what they want, even though they might have heard what we're talking about today, is that there is a misunderstanding by what is meant by thoughts.
When most people hear the statement, we become what we think about, or our thoughts create our reality, most of them will hear that and then think to themselves, okay, I'm going to think about making lots of money.
who I'm going to think about getting into a relationship
and they might think about that for maybe a few seconds
or even a few minutes
and then if they don't see the results then they give up
some people might again maybe try for a few minutes each day
but then they end up giving up because they're not seeing the results
that they are expecting to see
it is important to realize that when we look at our thoughts
we need to separate them into two distinct categories
those that arise from the conscious mind and those that arise out of the subconscious mind.
The conscious mind represent our thoughts, memories, feelings, and wishes that we are aware of in any given moment.
While on the other hand, the subconscious mind sometimes also called the unconscious mind,
is the culmination of feelings, thoughts, ages and memories that,
we are not consciously aware of.
The subconscious mind is vastly greater than the conscious mind and has a significantly bigger
influence on our thoughts, emotions and behavior.
There are multiple research articles that state that 95% of our behavior is due to the
subconscious mind.
And this would explain why change can be hard sometimes.
we've all had the experience of either trying to start saving more money,
trying to attain a specific health goal,
or to stop a behavior that we know is destructive towards ourselves,
and maybe we are able to do that for a few days, even a few weeks.
However, at some point we stop and then we turn back to our habitual patterns
and the progress that we have made will be lost.
So the understanding of this distinction of the subconscious and the conscious mind will help us become aware of how we can actually change the way we think.
In short, we need to use our conscious mind to train our subconscious mind to think differently.
This is about changing our beliefs and our mental paradigms so that they can start processing.
information in a way that they have not done before.
So how do we go about making this change?
Or more importantly, before we talk about that,
how do we know when we are making this change?
When changes are being done towards the way the subconscious mind is thinking,
the biggest difference is going to be how we feel.
situations may be that bother us in the past don't bother us as much anymore
conditions that made us feel anxious may not make us feel as anxious anymore
and in general people that have changed the way the subconscious mind is operating
tends to have a more positive and elevated emotional state on a more consistent basis
the power of changing and teaching and training your subconscious mind
is also highlighted by what founder and CEO of Starbucks, Howard Shalz said when he, in an interview,
he mentioned, make good habits and make them your masters, which in short is make sure that you
teach your subconscious mind to habitually think in a specific way.
And once you do that, then your subconscious mind can help you change how you're thinking,
how you're feeling, how you're acting, which will ultimately.
change the way your life is unfolding, the people that you are attracting, and the resources that
you've got access to. For all those different things that we want in our life, need to be in
resonance with our thoughts. And the thoughts that they need to be in resonance with are not
specifically the conscious thoughts, but more specifically the subconscious thoughts.
And so within our subconscious mind, we have got beliefs.
And beliefs, simply put, is just a thought that we have practiced multiple times that we believe is true.
So we have got beliefs about ourselves, beliefs about our self-worth, beliefs about how we interact in different relationships.
And these relationships could be relationships with friends, families, family,
even your chosen industry at work.
It also includes beliefs about your relationships with money,
relationships with food, as well as romantic partners.
Before we continue, this is a perfect place to pause
and get you to download the episode worksheet
which will help you reflect on your current belief system
so you can become aware of any potential thoughts
that might be holding you back from living the life that you really want.
Albert Einstein said we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them.
The life that you want, the situations you want to experience and the relationships you want to be in,
require that you change the way you think.
Years ago, I took an amazing self-development program by a very successful,
individual and one of the key ideas they shared was that opportunity is everywhere
around us the reason why most people don't see it is that the thinking is so small
and maladaptive that they wouldn't even recognize the opportunity if it came banging on
the front door when we change our thinking we become aware of the opportunities
that are already there within our environment as you are listening to this
right now. There is already so much opportunity within your life that is around you, but until you start
changing the way you're thinking, you're not going to be conscious of that opportunity.
An example, a personal example that highlights this is in 2021, I created an educational resource
for the students that were taking one of my courses. The resource provided access to many great
thought leaders, speeches, and I wanted to provide it for free. With my current thinking at that time,
I would never charge listeners whether they were my students or not for listening to this.
And so in my mind, there was no way of making money from it. When I shifted my thinking
through various strategies such as auto-suggestion or the use of affirmations,
inundating my mind with positive information, such as,
books, podcasts and other sources, and clarifying my financial goals, new ideas started forming
in my mind. What was even more interesting is that I started getting emails about different
monetization options that were beyond what I'd originally considered. This is what happens when you
start shifting the way you think. You become conscious of people, situation, and circumstances
that will help you in achieving your goals.
So I started getting emails about how to monetize using elements such as ads, sponsorships, partnerships,
that were important, but more important, they were relevant to the resource that I developed.
In taking action in some of these options that I felt good when I was implementing them,
and that resonated with me, while also maintaining,
a positive state of mind, I was able to successfully monetize this resource while keeping it free for the listeners.
Now, of course, this is a monetary example, but there are a lot of other experiences and examples that I've had in my life where I was thinking one way and I couldn't figure out how to get a meeting, I get into an industry, create a partnership.
I shifted the way I was thinking, maintained a positive state of mind, which basically means I felt good and excited about it, which is one of the strategies we will continue to talk about in this podcast.
And whether it was meeting someone where I was having a conversation and they provided the introduction, or I had an impulse to go to an event and ended up meeting a potential partner.
In that state, the situations, people and circumstances ended up showing up in my experience.
and it allowed me to be able to move forward in that direction.
As some of you are listening to this, you are probably thinking about the example that I just
shared about my educational resource in terms of like, okay, what are the specifics of how I
monetized it and what is the process that I went through?
But that is not important.
And I'm saying this because when you change the way you think, the how will start unfolding.
more importantly the how is going to unfold in a way that is specific to your context and the product or service that you're providing
there's a process in there's a principle of success i learned about and i shared in my book called the
training balance scale and what this principle talks about is you've got a training balance scale
with two sides on one side of the scale you've got nantan tangoes you've got nantan
elements of success. These elements are concepts like your thoughts, thinking, the why, your
goals, your dreams, energy, vibration. While on the other side of the scale, you've
got elements such as the techniques, the steps, the methodology, the how. And the
The question that the training balance scale aims to answer is which side is more important,
the thought side or the how side, when it comes to being able to accomplish what it is you want
to accomplish in life?
The answer, of course, can be found in many books, one of them being Think and Grow
Rich by Napoleon Hill.
Within that book, it is important that he titled the book.
think and grow rich. Think and grow rich. And of course the book talks about monetary
success but the ideas conveyed could be richness in terms of experiences, richness
in life, richness in relationships. So broaden your definition of richness because
the idea here again is think and grow rich as the title of the book. Not live in a
specific country and grow rich or know how to do something and grow rich.
or know the right people and grow rich.
It titled the book Think and Grow Rich,
because it is the thinking part, the thinking part,
the why, the thoughts process that is most important
when it comes to creating the life that you want.
How your life looks right now is basically due to the thoughts that you have had.
And more importantly, to the thoughts that are in your suburb.
subconscious mind that you're having.
If you're not aware of those thoughts, you can think of them as being expressed through how
you feel.
If you're a person who feels badly most of the time, that means you are having thoughts that
are disempowering and the experiences in your life are going to reinforce those emotions,
but more specifically those thoughts.
Going back to the training balance scale, the training balance scale, stage,
is that at least 90% of success in any area of your life comes from the thinking side.
In the training that I mentioned earlier that I received, it teaches that it's actually 99%
of how our life is going to unfold is based on our thinking, how we think, what we spend our
time thinking about most of the time. And most people are not even aware of
what they spend their time thinking or they are so focused on what the events that are happening in
the world that they do not know how taking in that information worrying about what's going on
is actually hindering their ability to be able to create a life that they want
when you take care of the thinking side or when you start mastering your thoughts
the how is going to start taking care of itself or many people listening to this they're
The idea of the how not being important or the methodology or the process of accomplishing a goal not being important might cause them to reject this idea.
And what they are not aware of is most people have been taught and conditioned to think that the how, figuring out how to do something is the most important element when it comes to solving or creating a specific outcome.
the how only comes after the thinking process has been done properly
one of the things the most successful people know or the people that are living the life
that they want is that a lot of the things unfolded in their life in a way that they
could not even have planned that the how was not even feasible to them
but because either they had a vision or they were excited about a goal and they believed
that they could get it or their positive anticipation around getting it,
things just started falling into place for them.
And so knowing and changing and shifting your thinking is very, very important.
And doing it in a way that allows your subconscious mind to be able to do it is very, very important.
Now, a core component that is important to actually make it work is the idea of belief.
what are your beliefs in being able to achieve what it is your want because ultimately when you talk
about changing your thoughts we're talking about changing your beliefs changing your beliefs about
yourself changing your beliefs about how you're interacting with the environment and changing your
beliefs about what is possible in your life right now as i mentioned we are all getting what it is
we believe and in the next three months six months and twenty months and twenty
12 months, your life and my life is just going to reflect the current beliefs that we are holding
on a more consistent basis.
In Napoleon Hill, he summarizes this idea really eloquently when he says,
whatever the mind can conceive and bring itself to believe it can achieve.
Believe is the key ingredient.
In the book, The Magic of Believing by Claude Brist.
he spends and it's a short book that talks about the power of belief and this belief talks about
belief being the key ingredient the accelerant that allows people to be able to actually accomplish
what it is they want. Phyllis Dela, famous comedian, talks about that book and talks about how when
she read that book that book was the one book that allowed it to have such a success.
successful career. And any person that you talk to who has been successful will talk about, yes,
you need to love what you do. You need to have goals. But more importantly, you also need to believe
that you can accomplish those goals. And the way that you can change or build that belief
can be done utilizing many strategies, some of which are, again, concepts such as changing
your self-talk or affirmations and inundating yourself with positive information.
The idea about inundating yourself with positive information is very important because
we know how propaganda works.
And what most people don't know is that you can actually choose to propaganda yourself
into changing the way you think.
And so if you in and date your mind with positive information, with empowering information,
such as that that is offered by this podcast,
eventually is going to change the way you think.
So when you consciously want something but subconsciously you believe you can't get it,
then you have this incongruence within your mind, which you are going to actually end up blocking
yourself from getting it.
When you consciously want something but subconsciously don't believe you can get it,
then you're actually blocking yourself from getting it.
There is what is called intention, counterintention.
And the stronger of those two is what will materialize in your life.
Most people have counter intentions or subconscious beliefs about themselves
that they may consciously say they want something
or consciously want to change their thoughts or want a specific outcome.
But the subconscious ideas about themselves and their self-worth
blog these or cancel these out for them.
And so it is very important that we become aware of our thoughts,
we become aware of our beliefs and see, okay,
maybe it's not because I'm not changing my thinking to get what I want.
Maybe I've got beliefs about myself that are actually hindering myself
from getting what it is I want to get in my life.
An example of this is many people,
when we talk about financial independence, earning a lot of money, that's a goal that many people do have.
However, they also hold another belief that people that have got lots of money are bad people.
And so the incongruency from them wanting to make a lot of money and seeing themselves as good people,
and then seeing the people that have got money as bad people, creates an incongruency.
that will hinder the person's ability to earn the money that they want.
And so addressing this incongruence is going to be very important
so that they're actually able to accomplish and earn the money
that they do have the capacity to earn.
So we need to take some time to evaluate our beliefs about ourselves,
about the relationships we have with people and the environment,
and the first step of doing that is becoming aware
of what those beliefs are.
And the first step of achieving mental mastery,
after that awareness is to start shaping and shifting those dots.
I've included a worksheet in this episode.
So make sure that you take some time,
download it, spend the week reflecting on what your beliefs are.
This is a very important step.
Because if you've got any beliefs that are holding you back,
yes, you can consciously change the way you're thinking.
thinking, but you're not changing what is actually important enough to make a dent in your life.
Remember, the truth is you are worthy. You are lovable and you are enough. Until next time,
have an amazing week. Thank you for listening.
